SEER: A Scalable Event-Driven Runtime for Parallel Execution of Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Environments

Jiming Su, Feng Zhu, Yuhao Xiao, Miao Zhang

原文摘要

Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) is increasingly used in systems where many entities interact in a shared environment. In these workloads, policy inference can be batched on GPUs, but the CPU-side environment path still updates entity states, resolves local interactions, and builds observations inside each $\mathrm{env.step}$. This path can dominate latency in interaction-intensive workloads after policy batching. Existing vectorized environment interfaces and general event-driven runtimes do not directly address the fine-grained cross-entity work inside one bounded MARL step while preserving the step-level semantics expected by learning systems. We present SEER (Scalable Event-Driven Environment Runtime), a runtime for MARL environment execution under an explicit event-locality contract. SEER models each environment step as a bounded stream of timestamped events. If direct state updates are entity-local and cross-entity effects are represented as ordered future events, SEER can run independent events in parallel while preserving serial-equivalent boundary outputs. To make this contract practical, SEER uses a CAS-based dual-layer event queue: local event queues preserve per-entity causal order, while a parallel executive list exposes ready work to global worker threads. SEER further uses STPA, a preflight-guided thread-pool selection mechanism that combines short runtime traces with static workload and hardware features. We evaluate SEER on two parameterized MARL workloads: compute-intensive UAV swarm control (Aircraft) and communication-intensive wireless management (PCS). On Aircraft, SEER reduces inference latency by 16.2\% over the baseline. On PCS, SEER reduces environment-execution latency by 46.9\%, 19.5\%, and 64.9\% over ROSS-T, NBSE, and ROOT-Sim, respectively.

Trace2Eval: Contextualized Evaluation of Coding Agents from Real-World Traces

原文摘要

Coding agents are increasingly used in real-world workflows across diverse domains, motivating evaluation grounded in real user tasks. Existing benchmarks, however, largely rely on static public tasks with reference patches or hidden tests. Next-generation coding-agent benchmarks should therefore move beyond correctness on fixed tasks toward continually renewed evaluation of overall artifact quality in real user workflows. We propose Trace2Eval, a dynamically updatable pipeline that constructs benchmarks from real-world interaction trajectories. Trace2Eval employs a multi-agent reconstruction system to analyze the filtered trajectory, recover the original user query, restore the workspace files to their pre-interaction state, and rebuild a trajectory-equivalent execution environment. A candidate agent then executes the reconstructed query to produce an initial artifact. To evaluate these artifacts, the pipeline iteratively refines human rubrics through inter-annotator alignment, and calibrates judge agents against human assessments using source-code and runtime evidence. Guided by feedback from the Trace2Eval pipeline, models revise their initial artifacts, yielding a mean score gain of 10.05 percentage points across 19 model-harness configurations and a maximum of 19.28 percentage points for DeepSeek-V4-Pro with Claude Code, which supports rubric feedback as actionable guidance for artifact improvement.

原文摘要

Accurate prediction in ungauged basins (PUB) requires effective transfer across hydrologically diverse regions. While deep learning has advanced large-sample hydrological modeling, its cross-regional generalization depends in part on the static basin descriptors used to guide model behavior. Earth Foundation Models (EFMs) provide a promising alternative by learning environmental representations from multi-modal satellite data. In this study, we evaluate the 64-dimensional AlphaEarth Foundations (AEF) embeddings as a new form of static basin representation and assess their value for streamflow prediction under both in-sample (IS) and out-of-sample (OOS) settings using the CAMELS dataset. Results show that AEF embeddings offer higher OOS robustness than CAMELS attributes, despite nearly identical IS performance. Mutual-information analysis reveals statistical associations between AEF embeddings and conventional catchment attributes related to terrain, vegetation, and rooting characteristics. We further investigate similarity-based donor-basin selection for PUB using CAMELS attributes and AEF embeddings. Across 100 target basins, AEF static inputs generally improved PUB performance. With AEF inputs, similarity-based donor selection outperformed random selection for smaller donor pools, but its advantage diminished as pool size increased. Adding more donor basins did not consistently improve performance. Leave-one-cluster-out experiments showed AEF input benefits depended on basin partitioning, suggesting that transferability remains sensitive to the catchment conditions represented during training. Overall, this study demonstrates that Earth Foundation Model embeddings provide a transferable representation for PUB prediction and underscores the importance of basin representation quality and donor pool design, motivating future research toward unified hydrological foundation models.

Spatial-Frequency-Aware Implicit Neural Representation of Multidimensional Signals via MLP-KAN Fusion

Wen Yan, Ligen Shi, Jun Qiu, Haimiao Zhang, Lina Wu, Chang Liu

原文摘要

Implicit Neural Representations (INRs) have emerged as a compelling paradigm for modeling multidimensional signals by mapping continuous coordinates to signal values. However, Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP)-based INRs inherently suffer from spectral bias, which favors low-frequency components and suppresses the reconstruction of essential high-frequency details. While existing techniques, such as Fourier feature mappings, mitigate this issue, they often rely on sensitive manual tuning and are prone to spectral artifacts. In this paper, we propose a spatial-frequency-aware INR framework that combines an MLP branch with a Kolmogorov-Arnold network (KAN) branch for complementary frequency-oriented modeling. The MLP branch provides a low-frequency-oriented representation of smooth structures, whereas the KAN branch complements localized variations and fine details. To coordinate the two branches, we integrate the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) into the output fusion stage. The outputs of the two branches are decomposed into wavelet coefficients, and the corresponding coefficients are additively fused before inverse wavelet reconstruction. A wavelet-domain band-separation regularization further penalizes high-frequency responses in the MLP branch and low-frequency responses in the KAN branch, thereby encouraging complementary frequency-oriented behavior. Experiments on 1D signals, 2D images, 3D volumes and signed distance functions, videos, and 4D light-fields demonstrate the applicability of the proposed representation across the evaluated signal modalities. Results demonstrate improved reconstruction fidelity across the evaluated signal modalities.

LinkQA: Synthesizing Diverse QA from Multiple Seeds Strongly Linked by Knowledge Points

Xuemiao Zhang, Can Ren, Chengying Tu, Rongxiang Weng, Hongfei Yan, Jingang Wang Meituan, Xunliang Cai Meituan

原文摘要

The advancement of large language models (LLMs) struggles with the scarcity of high-quality, diverse training data. To address this limitation, we propose LinkSyn, a KP-graph-based synthesis framework that for the first time enables flexible control over discipline and difficulty distributions while balancing KP coverage and popularity. LinkSyn extracts KPs from question-answering (QA) seed data and constructs a KP graph to synthesize diverse QA data from multiple seeds strongly linked by KPs and sampled from graph walks. Specifically, LinkSyn incorporates (1) a knowledge value function to guide the adjustment of path sampling probability and balance KP coverage and popularity during graph walks; (2) diffusion-based synthesis via a strong reasoning model by leveraging multiple seeds with dense logical associations along each path; and (3) high-difficulty QA enhancement within given disciplines by flexible difficulty adjustments. By executing LinkSyn, we synthesize LinkQA, a diverse multi-disciplinary QA dataset with 50B tokens. Extensive experiments on Llama-3 8B demonstrate that continual pre-training with LinkQA yields an average improvement of 11.51% on MMLU and CMMLU, establishing new SOTA results. LinkQA consistently enhances performance across model size and initial FLOPs scales.

原文摘要

Segment Anything Model 3 (SAM3) advances open-vocabulary segmentation through promptable concept segmentation, enabling users to segment all instances associated with a given concept using short noun-phrase (NP) prompts. While effective for concept-level grounding, real-world interactions often involve far richer natural-language instructions that combine attributes, relations, actions, states, or implicit reasoning. Currently, SAM3 relies on external multi-modal agents to convert complex instructions into NPs and conducts iterative mask filtering, leading to coarse representations and limited instance specificity. In this work, we present SAM3-I, an instruction-following extension of the SAM family that unifies concept-level grounding and instruction-level reasoning within a single segmentation framework. Built upon SAM3, SAM3-I introduces an instruction-aware cascaded adaptation mechanism with dedicated alignment losses that progressively aligns expressive instruction semantics with SAM3’s vision-language representations, enabling direct interpretation of natural-language instructions while preserving its strong concept recall ability. To enable instruction-following learning, we introduce HMPL-Instruct, a large-scale instruction-centric dataset that systematically covers hierarchical instruction semantics and diverse target granularities. Experiments demonstrate that SAM3-I achieves appealing performance across referring and reasoning-based segmentation, showing that SAM3 can be effectively extended to follow complex natural-language instructions without sacrificing its original concept-driven strengths. Code and dataset are available at https://github.com/debby-0527/SAM3-I.

Evolving Sparsity: Leveraging Token Importance Dynamics for Efficient LLM Decoding with Sparse Attention

原文摘要

Efficient long-context inference remains a major challenge for large language models (LLMs), as the cost of attention computation during auto-regressive decoding grows linearly with the context length. Recent sparse attention methods attempt to reduce the computational burden by selecting a subset of tokens at each step, while most rely on static importance scores that are repeatedly computed over the entire cache, overlooking the relational dynamics of the decoding process. In this work, we revisit sparse attention in LLMs and propose to model token importance as a dynamic process that evolves over decoding steps and propagates through model layers. To efficiently measure token importance, we propose two lightweight mechanisms: (1) Cross-Step Accumulation, which incrementally maintains long-term, query-agnostic importance via decayed accumulation of sparse attention scores, avoiding recomputing the importance of decoded tokens; and (2) Cross-Layer Propagation, which leverages the model’s intrinsic Retrieval Heads to compute query-aware indices and efficiently propagate them across layers; Together, these mechanisms preserve both stable context memory and adaptive query relevance while reduce redundant computation. We evaluate our approach on PG-19, RULER, LongBench, and mathematical reasoning benchmarks using models employing Multi-Head and Grouped-Query Attention. Under varying KV cache budgets, our method consistently outperforms prior sparse attention baselines, approaches full attention performance in most settings, and achieves speedups of up to 5.36\times for attention latency and 2.33\times for end-to-end decoding. Identity-Robust Language Model Generation via Content Integrity Preservation

Miao Zhang, Kelly Chen, Mehrab Tanjim Adobe Research, Rumi Chunara New York University

原文摘要

Large Language Model (LLM) outputs often vary across user sociodemographic attributes, leading to disparities in factual accuracy, utility, and safety, even for objective questions where demographic information is irrelevant. Unlike prior work on stereotypical or representational bias, this paper studies identity-dependent degradation of core response quality. We show empirically that such degradation arises from biased generation behavior, despite factual knowledge being robustly encoded across identities. Motivated by this mismatch, we propose a lightweight, training-free framework for identity-robust generation that selectively neutralizes non-critical identity information while preserving semantically essential attributes, thus maintaining output content integrity. Experiments across four benchmarks and 18 sociodemographic identities demonstrate an average 66.3% reduction in identity-dependent bias compared to vanilla prompting and outperforms existing prompt-based defenses. Our work addresses a critical gap in mitigating the impact of user identity cues in prompts on core generation quality.
