From Handcrafted to Generative: RLVR-Optimized Icon Generation for Alexa+

Rohan Sequeira, Matthew Rosenberg, Amin Mahmoudabadbozchelou, Oleg Poliannikov, Jonathan Rubin

Alexa+ devices with screens display animated icons during conversations to visually reinforce what is being said. The original set of these icons was hand-drawn by designers one at a time, a process that produces polished results but is time-consuming and cannot scale to the range of topics encountered in open-ended conversation. We describe an automated pipeline, deployed in production, that generates these vectorised animated icons from a text description alone and surfaces relevant animations to customers based on their ongoing conversation. The pipeline decomposes icon creation into a sequence of stages (image generation, semantic decomposition, vectorisation, styling, and animation). Its quality is determined at the very first of these, image generation, on which every downstream stage depends. We therefore focus on improving this first and most critical stage. Because the icons are rendered on small display canvases under strict design guidelines, generations are often unsuitable for production. Supervised fine-tuning is not viable, as no dataset of line-art icons exists under these constraints. Instead, we design objective verifiers that automatically flag generations violating the design guidelines, and use them to fine-tune a flow matching image generation model via reinforcement learning from verifiable rewards (RLVR). The fine-tuned model raises the pass rate from 15.7% to 58.7% (3.7x) under a VLM judge that is independent of the reward model. Both the trained model and the verifier are deployed in the production pipeline, where the verifier also serves as the automated quality gate before final design review.

FlowSearch: Advancing Deep Research with Dynamic Structured Knowledge Flow

Yusong Hu, Runmin Ma, Yue Fan Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Jinxin Shi, Zongsheng Cao Independent Researcher, Yuhao Zhou, Jiakang Yuan Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and Fudan University, Shuaiyu Zhang 等 14 位作者

Deep research is an inherently challenging task that demands both breadth and depth of thinking. It involves navigating diverse knowledge spaces and reasoning over complex, multi-step dependencies, which presents substantial challenges for agentic systems. To address this, we propose FlowSearch, a multi-agent framework that actively constructs and evolves a dynamic structured knowledge flow to drive subtask execution and reasoning. FlowSearch is capable of strategically planning and expanding the knowledge flow to enable parallel exploration and hierarchical task decomposition, while also adjusting the knowledge flow in real time based on feedback from intermediate reasoning outcomes and insights. FlowSearch achieves competitive performance on both general and scientific benchmarks, including GAIA, HLE, GPQA and TRQA, demonstrating its effectiveness in multi-disciplinary research scenarios and its potential to advance scientific discovery. The code will be available.

SRA-Det: Learning Omni-Grained Open-Vocabulary Detection Beyond Category Names

Yang, Li, Cai, Boyu, Liu, Wei, Wang, Yan, Yuan, Chunfeng, Li, Bing, Hu, Weiming

Open-vocabulary object detection (OVD) aims to detect objects described by arbitrary text, but most existing methods operate at a coarse category level and struggle with fine-grained, attribute-sensitive queries. We address this from both model and data perspectives. We propose a Semantic-Retrieval-Augmented Detector (SRA-Det) that uses an attention-based module to retrieve multiple semantic facets from token-level text features, and a soft-min matching rule that behaves like a differentiable logical AND over these facets, ensuring that all key attributes are satisfied. In parallel, we introduce an automatic attribute-augmented data pipeline that uses an LLM to generate category-specific visual attributes and a dual CLIP-based similarity check to verify them at the instance level. With a Swin-T backbone, our approach achieves 54.9 mAP in the zero-shot setting on FG-OVD and 40.4 AP on LVIS, establishing strong fine-grained and general OVD performance.

Gemma 3 Technical Report

We introduce Gemma 3, a multimodal addition to the Gemma family of lightweight open models, ranging in scale from 1 to 27 billion parameters. This version introduces vision understanding abilities, a wider coverage of languages and longer context - at least 128K tokens. We also change the architecture of the model to reduce the KV-cache memory that tends to explode with long context. This is achieved by increasing the ratio of local to global attention layers, and keeping the span on local attention short. The Gemma 3 models are trained with distillation and achieve superior performance to Gemma 2 for both pre-trained and instruction finetuned versions. In particular, our novel post-training recipe significantly improves the math, chat, instruction-following and multilingual abilities, making Gemma3-4B-IT competitive with Gemma2-27B-IT and Gemma3-27B-IT comparable to Gemini-1.5-Pro across benchmarks. We release all our models to the community.

Language Models are Few-Shot Learners

Recent work has demonstrated substantial gains on many NLP tasks and benchmarks by pre-training on a large corpus of text followed by fine-tuning on a specific task. While typically task-agnostic in architecture, this method still requires task-specific fine-tuning datasets of thousands or tens of thousands of examples. By contrast, humans can generally perform a new language task from only a few examples or from simple instructions - something which current NLP systems still largely struggle to do. Here we show that scaling up language models greatly improves task-agnostic, few-shot performance, sometimes even reaching competitiveness with prior state-of-the-art fine-tuning approaches. Specifically, we train GPT-3, an autoregressive language model with 175 billion parameters, 10x more than any previous non-sparse language model, and test its performance in the few-shot setting. For all tasks, GPT-3 is applied without any gradient updates or fine-tuning, with tasks and few-shot demonstrations specified purely via text interaction with the model. GPT-3 achieves strong performance on many NLP datasets, including translation, question-answering, and cloze tasks, as well as several tasks that require on-the-fly reasoning or domain adaptation, such as unscrambling words, using a novel word in a sentence, or performing 3-digit arithmetic. At the same time, we also identify some datasets where GPT-3's few-shot learning still struggles, as well as some datasets where GPT-3 faces methodological issues related to training on large web corpora. Finally, we find that GPT-3 can generate samples of news articles which human evaluators have difficulty distinguishing from articles written by humans. We discuss broader societal impacts of this finding and of GPT-3 in general.
