ASTRA-bench: Evaluating Tool-Use Agent Reasoning and Action Planning with Personal User Context

原文摘要

Next-generation AI must manage vast personal data, diverse tools, and multi-step reasoning, yet most benchmarks remain context-free and single-turn. We present ASTRA-bench (Assistant Skills in Tool-use, Reasoning \& Action-planning), a benchmark that uniquely unifies time-evolving personal context with an interactive toolbox and complex user intents. Our event-driven pipeline generates 2,413 scenarios across four protagonists, grounded in longitudinal life events and annotated by referential, functional, and informational complexity. Evaluation of state-of-the-art models (e.g., Claude-4.5-Opus, DeepSeek-V3.2) reveals significant performance degradation under high-complexity conditions, with argument generation emerging as the primary bottleneck. These findings expose critical limitations in current agents' ability to ground reasoning within messy personal context and orchestrate reliable multi-step plans. We release ASTRA-bench with a full execution environment and evaluation scripts to provide a diagnostic testbed for developing truly context-aware AI assistants.

原文摘要

We present Cardamom, a micro-dialectal Arabic speech dataset designed to support fine-grained evaluation and adaptation of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems. Community-curated by native speakers familiar with the represented varieties, Cardamom contains approximately 40 hours of transcribed YouTube speech spanning 21 micro-dialects across Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia. Each segment is annotated with one or more operational micro-dialect labels, code-switching information, and utterance-level perceived gender, enabling analysis of sub-country variation that is obscured by conventional country-level labels. We describe the collection and annotation process, motivate the micro-dialect inventory linguistically, and benchmark four multilingual ASR systems in zero-shot and adapted settings. The strongest zero-shot system obtains 43.47% aggregate WER, with particularly high error rates on Mauritanian and Lebanese varieties; adaptation on Cardamom reduces its WER to 35.21%. Audio-based identification experiments further highlight the difficulty of fine-grained micro-dialect recognition: across three training seeds, a dedicated classifier obtains 46.85% accuracy and 31.95% F1. Cardamom provides a resource for studying localized dialectal variation and developing Arabic speech systems with broader regional coverage.

Scaling Laws for Tool-Use Agents via Controllable Environment Synthesis

原文摘要

We explore how to build performant large language model (LLM) tool-use agents that complete complex, multi-step tasks. Specifically, we study how data composition in synthetically generated tool-use environments affects the training of such agents. To do so, we propose the SynthAPI pipeline, which explicitly controls the diversity of generated environments along the axes of tools, tasks, and the databases on which the tools operate. By systematically varying SynthAPI's generation controls in 458,752 tasks across 849 trained models of four different sizes, we derive a scaling law that predicts downstream tool-use agent generalization based on the scale and composition of the synthesized environments. These predictable relationships reveal several lessons for scaling tool-use agent data. As data budgets grow, scaling tool and database diversity becomes more effective than increasing the number of tasks, and increasing data complexity yields larger gains. Scaling according to these findings yields agents that outperform models trained on data from prior work in large-scale tool-use agent and synthetic environment generation across four evaluation benchmarks.
