CaliSplat: Sparse Gaussian Fitting and Calibrated Rate Allocation for Image Compression

Zhenbang Zhang, Zhengquan Luo, Kai Zhao, Zhiqiang Xu

原文摘要

2D Gaussian representations provide an explicit and lightweight alternative for image representation, enabling fast deterministic decoding without a heavy neural synthesis network. However, existing per-image Gaussian codecs still require costly image-specific optimization to determine how limited Gaussian capacity should be distributed across heterogeneous regions. We introduce CaliSplat, an optimization-efficient Gaussian image codec that selectively explores candidate representations and globally allocates a constrained Gaussian budget. We exploit the closed-form reconstruction error of the single-Gaussian case as an inexpensive measure of local difficulty, fitting higher-capacity candidates only in regions where additional Gaussians are likely to be useful. To reduce selection errors caused by mismatched convergence rates across candidate sizes, a small set of longer-horizon fits is used to calibrate short-horizon distortion estimates before global budget-aware selection. The selected representation is then compressed into a bitstream. Across standard and large image datasets, CaliSplat achieves competitive or superior rate--distortion performance while reducing per-image fitting time by $3.0\times$--$15.7\times$ compared with representative Gaussian codecs. It further maintains high-throughput deterministic decoding at $175.9$--$478.2$~MP/s. These results demonstrate that content-adaptive Gaussian compression can substantially reduce per-image optimization cost while preserving strong reconstruction quality and efficient explicit decoding.

Optimal Condition Numbers in Low-Rank Positive Semidefinite Matrix Sensing

Mingxuan Sun, Zhiqiang Xu

原文摘要

In this paper we focus on the stability of positive semidefinite matrix sensing maps $Φ_{\mathcal{A}}=(\langle A_i,X\rangle)_{i=1}^m$ where $A_i\succeq 0$, $X\succeq0$ and $\operatorname{rank}(X)\le r$. We introduce the bi-Lipschitz constants of $Φ_{\mathcal{A}}$ and define the global condition numbers as the ratio of upper and lower Lipschitz constants. We give deterministic universal lower bounds for these condition numbers that depend only on the rank $r$ and on the underlying field. We then show that rank-one Gaussian measurements asymptotically attain these bounds, except for the operator-norm condition number over $\mathbb R$ when $r=1$. For this exceptional case, we establish a sharper universal lower bound and prove its asymptotic sharpness. As an application, we derive stability guarantees for an $\ell_1$-residual PhaseLift-type estimator at the optimal sampling scale. These results identify the intrinsic limits of conditioning in positive semidefinite matrix sensing and connect these limits to stable low-rank recovery.

Delivered, Not Used: Evaluating Agent Memory at Its Point of Use

Changran Xu, Zeju Li, Qiang Xu

原文摘要

Task success, retrieval quality, and cost do not show whether an LLM agent used a delivered memory or what followed from that use. We introduce MemUse, which evaluates memory at its point of use in recorded trajectories: each memory delivery is compared with what the agent could already see and followed through the agent's later actions and their consequences. An agentic judge rates each delivered entry's relevance, accuracy, novelty, influence, and observed effect; programmatic checks enforce complete reading of cited evidence, and fixed rules aggregate the ratings into verdicts linked to memory histories and delivery cost. On 8,000 SWE-bench Verified episodes from three memory systems, resolve rates stay within 0.4 percentage points of a no-memory baseline, yet MemUse shows that most delivered entries were irrelevant, most relevant entries went unused, and in two systems most deliveries restated content the agent could still see. It also surfaces effects that outcomes hide: 23.2\% of episodes with beneficial memory use still failed, and 5 of 16 with harmful use still succeeded.

SELF: A Robust Singular Value and Eigenvalue Approach for LLM Fingerprinting

Hanxiu Zhang, Qiang Xu, Yue Zheng

原文摘要

Safeguarding the Intellectual Property (IP) of Large Language Models (LLMs) against model theft represents a critical challenge in contemporary AI research. Although fingerprinting is essential for establishing forensic evidence for model derivation, existing methods are susceptible to false claim attacks, weight manipulations, or high false positive rates, undermining their utility. To overcome these limitations, we propose SELF, \rev{a novel intrinsic weight-based fingerprinting scheme tailored for robust IP forensics via adversarial model lineage verification}. SELF eliminates dependency on input and inherently resists false claims, achieving robust \rev{provenance detection} through unique, scalable and transformation-invariant fingerprint extraction via singular value and eigenvalue decomposition of LLM attention weights. Experimental results demonstrate that SELF maintains high IP infringement detection accuracy while significantly outperforming state-of-the-art baselines in reducing false positives and showing strong robustness against various downstream modifications, including quantization, pruning, and fine-tuning attacks. Our code is available at https://github.com/HanxiuZhang/SELF_v4.

A deterministic polynomial-time algorithm for the Bilu--Linial signing problem on bipartite graphs

Zhiqiang Xu

原文摘要

We give a deterministic polynomial-time algorithm for the Bilu--Linial signing problem on bipartite graphs. For every finite simple bipartite graph of maximum degree at most an integer $Δ\ge3$, the algorithm assigns signs to its edges so that the signed adjacency matrix has operator norm strictly less than $2\sqrt{Δ-1}$. Our algorithm builds on the randomized recursive repair framework of Jadbabaie, Saberi, and Sra~\cite{JSS26}, with deterministic rules for sign selection and vertex deletion.

原文摘要

Large language models have significantly advanced Multilingual Machine Translation (MMT), yet scaling to many languages while keeping quality robust across directions remains challenging. In this paper, we identify a failure mode of multilingual supervised fine-tuning (SFT) on multi-way parallel data: when such data are reused symmetrically around a pivot language (e.g., English), performance on reverse directions (X \to pivot) can drop substantially. We term this phenomenon Directional Degeneration and attribute it to excessive many-to-one mappings, which encourage shortcut learning. We propose Strategic Downsampling (SD), a simple yet effective method to mitigate this degeneration. In addition, we introduce Parallel Multilingual Prompting (PMP), which augments translation instructions with an auxiliary parallel sentence to promote cross-lingual transfer during training and enables optional test-time enhancement when auxiliary translations are available. We further develop NiuTrans.LMT (Large-scale Multilingual Translation, abbreviated as LMT), a Chinese–English-centric suite of multilingual translation models spanning four sizes (0.6B/1.7B/4B/8B) and covering 60 languages and 234 directions.Comprehensive evaluations show that LMT is competitive among open-source MMT systems, and that our 4B LMT model performs on par with or better than substantially larger baselines. We release our models and project resources to support inclusive and scalable MMT.

原文摘要

Complex reasoning with Large Language Models (LLMs) demands a careful balance between accuracy and computational cost. Verification is crucial for reliability but faces trade-off: robust process-based verifiers are computationally prohibitive, while fast verifiers lack precision. We introduce flexive, a unified generative verifier designed to navigate this trade-off by dynamically allocating compute between rapid fast thinking and deliberative slow thinking. A key innovation is our training strategy: we use Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) to specifically enhance the reliability of the fast mode. This targeted training generalizes effectively, elevating the slow mode to state-of-the-art open-source performance. To deploy flexive, we propose the solve-detect-verify (SDV) pipeline. Moving beyond static Best-of-N ranking, SDV employs an iterative refinement process that utilizes likelihood-based probing to detect solution completion, curtailing overthinking, and leverages flexive’s feedback for targeted correction. Solve-detect-verify establishes a new open-source state-of-the-art on ProcessBench, outperforming GenPRM-32B while requiring ~2.3x fewer TFLOPS and 15x less training data. On AIME 2024, the full SDV pipeline achieves 83.3% accuracy, surpassing strong baselines while using significantly fewer tokens.

Reinforcement Learning on Pre-Training Data

原文摘要

Recent progress in large language models (LLMs) is largely driven by scaling training compute through either pre-training with next-token prediction (NTP) or post-training with reinforcement learning (RL). The former contributes to learning broad knowledge and skills from general data, while struggling with data inefficiency and catastrophic forgetting in continual learning settings. The latter incentivizes reasoning capabilities with strong generalization, but is constrained by limited data availability due to its reliance on human annotation. To alleviate these issues, we propose Reinforcement Learning on Pre-Training data (RLPT), which combines the advantages of learning from general data and RL. In particular, RLPT derives reward signals directly from general text data through a next-segment reasoning objective, rewarding the policy for correctly predicting next text segments conditioned on the prefix text. Experiments across multiple benchmarks and models demonstrate the effectiveness of . For example, RLPT yields substantial improvements in continual pre-training (+4.6\%) and provides a strong foundation for post-training (+3.4\%) on Qwen3-8B-Base.

StructMem: Structured Memory for Long-Horizon Behavior in LLMs

Buqiang Xu, Yijun Chen, Jizhan Fang, Ruobin Zhong Zhejiang University, Yunzhi Yao Zhejiang University, Yuqi Zhu Zhejiang University, Lun Du Ant Group, Shumin Deng Zhejiang University

原文摘要

Long-term conversational agents need memory systems that capture relationships between events, not merely isolated facts, to support temporal reasoning and multi-hop question answering. Current approaches face a fundamental trade-off: flat memory is efficient but fails to model relational structure, while graph-based memory enables structured reasoning at the cost of expensive and fragile construction. To address these issues, we propose StructMem, a structure-enriched hierarchical memory framework that preserves event-level bindings and induces cross-event connections. By temporally anchoring dual perspectives and performing periodic semantic consolidation, StructMem improves temporal reasoning and multi-hop performance on LoCoMo, while substantially reducing token usage, API calls, and runtime compared to prior memory systems.
