FaCoDiff: Factor-Correlated Diffusion for Multivariate Probabilistic Forecasting

Jiaxuan Li, Yao Liu, Yuewei Xue, Shijie Dong, Zixiang Jin, Xiaoyu Guo, Qiao Liu

Multivariate probabilistic forecasting requires modeling cross-variable dependence alongside marginal uncertainty. The challenge is to learn this dependence while controlling marginal noise scales and avoiding dense covariance costs. We propose Factor-Correlated Diffusion (FaCoDiff), which couples a compact conditional statistical estimator with structured denoising. History-conditioned factor loadings use distinct coefficients for forecast-center correction, scale adjustment and noise dependence. Diagonal compensation preserves the estimated marginal noise variances, while low-rank operators enable residual Gaussian likelihood evaluation and noise transport without dense covariance storage or factorization. Factor-derived feature modulation explicitly conditions the denoiser, and a geometry-aware objective accounts for errors after noise transport. The same conditional geometry governs forward perturbations and reverse sampling. Across nine datasets, FaCoDiff achieves the lowest mean variogram score on eight datasets and ranks among the top two on 43 of 54 dataset-metric combinations in the reported comparisons. Matched ablations on Solar and Weather show that factor covariance improves mean Energy and Variogram scores under all four combinations of center and scale correction. Disrupting cross-variable sample pairings while preserving marginal trajectories worsens joint and aggregate scores on both datasets, demonstrating the predictive value of generated cross-variable dependence.

UXBench: Benchmarking User Experience in AI Assistants

Mengze Hong, Xia Zeng, Zeyang Lei, Sheng Wang, Chen Jason Zhang, Di Jiang, Taiming Fu, Jinfeng Huang 等 16 位作者

As AI assistants serve millions of users daily, evaluating user experience (UX) beyond general model capability has become increasingly important. We present \textbf{UXBench}, the first user-centric benchmark grounded in real user feedback signals for evaluating preference alignment and dialogue generation. The benchmark consists of three interconnected tasks, UX Judge, UX Eval, and UX Recovery, with 7,400 test instances extracted from over 70K interaction logs of a mainstream Chinese AI assistant. The dataset closely reflects real user distributions, covering 8 scenarios, 83 domains, and diverse failure patterns that pose severe challenges. Extensive experiments on 26 frontier language models provide novel insights into how well models perceive user experience and how improvements in model capability contribute to better dialogue engagement. Through analyses of model behavior and performance gaps, we document six important findings, demonstrating that user feedback prediction is a learnable capability and revealing different aspects that influence user experience. UXBench establishes a new evaluation landscape and calls for greater attention to tailored UX optimization, contributing toward a user-centric scaling law for the development of successful AI assistants. The full project is released at https://github.com/mengze-hong/UXBench.

MedHEB: Benchmarking Medical Embeddings Across Heterogeneous Clinical Evidence

Yingshu Li, Shaoyang Zhou, Zhanyu Wang, Yunyi Liu, Xinyu Liang, Xi Zhang, Lingqiao Liu, Lei Wang 等 9 位作者

Clinical evidence is inherently relational: medical images are interpreted with prior studies, cross-modal examinations, reports, and localized findings, and retrieving relevant evidence is therefore central to clinical interpretation. Recent foundation models increasingly encode these heterogeneous sources into shared embedding spaces, yet existing embedding evaluation often focuses on isolated matches, leaving unclear whether current models retrieve relevant evidence across changes in modality, appearance, and granularity. We introduce MedHEB, a unified benchmark with 107 retrieval tasks from 54 datasets, including both in-distribution and held-out-source evaluation, across three axes: evidence form (2D images, 3D volumes, text), pairing type (image--image, image--text, text--text, and modality-bridging visual matching), and relevance granularity (global, question-conditioned, region-level). Under a single ranking protocol, MedHEB varies clinically relevant evidence definitions to test whether embedding proximity remains meaningful across heterogeneous evidence, including modality-bridging visual retrieval and region-level text-to-region retrieval. Across representative models, performance is uneven across retrieval families: models strong on conventional image--text or text--text retrieval are less reliable on modality-bridging and region-level tasks. Current embedding spaces capture some clinical relationships well but do not yet provide balanced retrieval across heterogeneous evidence. We further provide MedEmb, an MLLM-based reference embedding model trained on the MedHEB ID split, as a reproducible baseline for unified 2D--3D--text medical retrieval. We release MedHEB with preprocessing scripts, evaluation code, access manifests, and MedEmb to support research on clinically meaningful medical embeddings.

EvoMemState: Evolving Memory State for Personal Agents

Zhishang Xiang, Yunbo Tang, Zhongqiao Liu, Junkai Chen, Zerui Chen, Qingguo Hu, Yuxuan Zhang, William Grant 等 10 位作者

Long-term memory enables large language model (LLM) agents to provide continuous personalized assistance by retaining user information across interactions. Existing systems support this process through fact extraction, organization, updating, and retrieval, but largely maintain memories as independent facts. This fact-centric paradigm may overlook how new facts update, constrain, or conflict with earlier ones, while leaving their applicability, role, and priority for the current request implicit. In this paper, we introduce EvoMemState, a state-centric framework that augments persistent facts with two complementary states: Relational States that capture how facts remain valid and relate to one another as memory evolves, and a Reasoning State that determines how these facts should be applied to the current request. Specifically, EvoMemState consists of three key components: (i) Ontology-Guided Memory State Induction extracts Persistent Facts and constructs Relational States that maintain their validity, scope, and evolving relations. (ii) RL-Based State Evolution internalizes memory-use experience into a policy through reinforcement learning to generate a request-specific Reasoning State. (iii) State-Aware Reasoning then combines the relevant facts with their Relational States and the generated Reasoning State to guide the personal agent. Extensive experiments on long-term dialogue and memory-use benchmarks demonstrate consistent improvements over existing memory systems in retrieval completeness and memory-grounded response accuracy. Our code and implementation details are available at https://github.com/XMUDeepLIT/EvoMemState.git.

Autonomous Quantum Measurement with Agentic AI

Eunbi Rha, Abhijatmedhi Chotrattanapituk, Mouyang Cheng, Chung-tao Chou, Shenyong Ye, Ashley S. Dale, Long Ju, Luqiao Liu 等 9 位作者

Quantum materials exhibit diverse electronic and functional phenomena, but their characterization requires extensive experimental expertise, iterative decision-making and accumulated laboratory knowledge that is difficult to document and transfer. Here we introduce Quantum Agent (QUANTA), an agentic artificial intelligence (AI) framework for autonomous quantum-materials characterization. Using a widely adopted Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) as an experimental platform, QUANTA combines retrieval augmentation using scientific literature, experimental protocols and prior measurements with specialized agents for experimental planning, troubleshooting, and data interpretation. A separate deterministic control layer validates instrument actions. Guided by incoming data, QUANTA evaluates measurement quality, revises experimental plans and selects subsequent measurements. We demonstrate these capabilities through transport measurements of the topological Weyl semimetal TaP, as well as investigations of nonlinear responses in magnetic material Co2MnGa. These results establish QUANTA as a generalizable framework for evidence-driven, safeguarded and closed-loop quantum-materials characterization.

Mixture-of-Minds: Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Table Understanding

Yuhang Zhou Meta, Mingrui Zhang, Ke Li, Mingyi Wang Facebook, Qiao Liu City University of New York, Qifei Wang, Jiayi Liu Meta Platforms Inc., Fei Liu Meta 等 15 位作者

Understanding and reasoning over tables is a critical capability for many real-world applications. Large language models (LLMs) have shown promise on this task, but current approaches remain limited. Fine-tuning based methods strengthen language reasoning; yet they are prone to arithmetic errors and hallucination. In contrast, tool-based methods enable precise table manipulation but rely on rigid schemas and lack semantic understanding. These complementary drawbacks highlight the need for approaches that integrate robust reasoning with reliable table processing. In this work, we propose MIXTURE-OF-MINDS, a multi-agent framework that decomposes table reasoning into three specialized roles: planning, coding, and answering. This design enables each agent to focus on a specific aspect of the task while leveraging code execution for precise table manipulation. Building on this workflow, we introduce a self-improvement training framework that employs Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) rollouts to generate pseudo-gold trajectories and optimize agents with reinforcement learning (RL). Extensive experiments show that MIXTURE-OF-MINDS delivers substantial gains, reaching 62.13% on TableBench and surpassing GPT-o3-mini. These results demonstrate the promise of combining structured multi-agent workflows with RL to advance table understanding.

Why Supervised Fine-Tuning Fails to Learn: A Systematic Study of Incomplete Learning in Large Language Models

Chao Xue, Yao Wang, Mengqiao Liu, Di Liang, Xingsheng Han, Peiyang Liu, Xianjie Wu Beijing Information Science & Technology University, Chenyao Lu Tencent AI Lab 等 14 位作者

Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) is the standard approach for adapting large language models (LLMs) to downstream tasks. However, we observe a persistent failure mode: even after convergence, models often fail to correctly reproduce a subset of their own supervised training data. We refer to this behavior as the Incomplete Learning Phenomenon (ILP). This paper presents the first systematic study of ILP in LLM fine-tuning. We formalize ILP as post-training failure to internalize supervised instances and demonstrate its prevalence across multiple model families, domains, and datasets. Through controlled analyses, we identify five recurrent sources of incomplete learning: (1) missing prerequisite knowledge in the pre-trained model, (2) conflicts between SFT supervision and pre-training knowledge, (3) internal inconsistencies within SFT data, (4) left-side forgetting during sequential fine-tuning, and (5) insufficient optimization for rare or complex patterns. We introduce a diagnostic-first framework that maps unlearned samples to these causes using observable training and inference signals, and study several targeted mitigation strategies as causal interventions. Experiments on Qwen, LLaMA, and OLMo2 show that incomplete learning is widespread and heterogeneous, and that improvements in aggregate metrics can mask persistent unlearned subsets. The findings highlight the need for fine-grained diagnosis of what supervised fine-tuning fails to learn, and why.
