DSRS: Teaching MLLMs to Perceive, Reason, and Segment in Complex Driving Scenes

Sicen Guo, Zhengfei Song, Kuanhsun Chen, Xu Huang, Ping Zhong, Wei Ye, Shaoyi Du, Rui Fan

原文摘要

Existing reasoning segmentation frameworks typically employ multimodal large language models (MLLMs) with broad world knowledge to extract semantics in a human-like manner and generate corresponding segmentation masks. Nevertheless, these frameworks lack the necessary scene-specific awareness. This paper introduces driving scene reasoning segmentation (DSRS), a scene-specific task that requires models to interpret implicit instructions, infer spatial relations, detect potential risks, handle challenging conditions, and comprehend underlying traffic rules, ultimately generating accurate segmentation masks. Meanwhile, we establish a benchmark dataset to facilitate future research on the DSRS task. To pioneer this task, we propose DSRS-Net, a novel architecture with advanced reasoning segmentation capability for automated driving. Specifically, DSRS-Net seamlessly infuses geometric features for deeper reasoning segmentation, without compromising the original multimodal fusion mechanism. This strategy effectively mitigates the modality representation mismatch in MLLMs caused by RGB-only pretraining, while enhancing the integration of geometric, contextual, and linguistic features. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of DSRS-Net in both driving scene reasoning segmentation and other language-driven segmentation tasks across various public datasets. The source code and dataset will be released upon publication.

LOGIV: Graph-Verified Execution with Causal Local Repair for Long-Horizon Robot Tasks

原文摘要

Agentic robots must turn a high-level goal into actions while keeping the physical conditions needed for future steps valid. A completed action does not ensure that its effects will persist: a later disturbance can invalidate support that the remaining plan still assumes. We present LOGIV, a graph engineering framework for agentic robot execution that uses an explicit task graph to connect symbolic planning, observation-based verification, and embodied action. LOGIV compiles a validated plan into condition-support and resource-ordering edges, checks their physical validity during execution, and uses dependency tracing to determine what must be restored after a failure. Repair is constrained by retained unfinished actions, and the combined continuation is symbolically validated before execution resumes. The framework operates above existing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) and World Action Model (WAM) policies without adding trainable components. Across 20 dual-arm tasks from RoboTwin V2 and BiCoord with three execution backbones, LOGIV improves mean task success without injected disturbances by 10.67 and 15.33 percentage points, respectively. Under predefined perturbations, it achieves higher task completion and condition restoration than three adapted recovery baselines for every backbone on both benchmarks. On three real-robot tasks, successful trials increase from 12/30 to 17/30. These results support explicit, continuously checked task dependencies as a practical interface for reliable agentic robot execution.

Ego-CEVR: Learning Cross-Embodiment Visual Representations from Human Egocentric Videos

原文摘要

As egocentric video becomes increasingly available for embodied learning, an important research question is how to turn this low-cost, scalable source of data into robot manipulation capabilities. Egocentric videos naturally provide rich context for high-level task understanding, while real-robot demonstrations with wrist observations and action annotations provide supervision for fine-grained action alignment. We present Ego-CEVR, a data-native framework for hierarchical visual representation learning that assigns distinct learning objectives to global and interaction representations. The global module learns object relations, task state, and temporal progress through future prediction on egocentric video. The Interaction module interprets wrist observations in global context and learns local alignment and contact cues through robot action supervision. Separate residual paths expose both representations to the action policy, preserving direct access to task context alongside fine-grained execution information. Ego-CEVR supports independent pretraining of its global video module on large-scale human egocentric videos and videos from diverse robot embodiments, without requiring robot action labels or paired wrist observations.

Schoenfeld’s Anatomy of Mathematical Reasoning by Language Models

Ming Li, Chenrui Fan, Yize Cheng, Soheil Feizi University of Maryland, College Park, Tianyi Zhou

原文摘要

Large language models increasingly expose reasoning traces, yet their underlying cognitive structure and steps remain difficult to identify and analyze beyond surface-level statistics. We adopt Schoenfeld’s Episode Theory as an inductive, intermediate-scale lens and introduce ThinkARM (Anatomy of Reasoning in Models), a scalable framework that explicitly abstracts reasoning traces into functional reasoning steps such as Analysis, Explore, Implement, Verify, etc. When applied to mathematical problem solving by diverse models, this abstraction reveals reproducible thinking dynamics and structural differences between reasoning and non-reasoning models, which are not apparent from token-level views. We further present two diagnostic case studies showing that exploration functions as a critical branching step associated with correctness, and that efficiency-oriented methods selectively suppress evaluative feedback steps rather than uniformly shortening responses. Together, our results demonstrate that episode-level representations make reasoning steps explicit, enabling systematic analysis of how reasoning is structured, stabilized, and altered in modern language models.

Feeling Rules in Language Models: Mapping Norms of Emotional Appropriateness Across Roles, Institutions, and Intensity

Guangrui Fan, DanDan Liu, Aznul Qalid MD Sabri, Rui Zhang Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, Pan Lihu Taiyuan University of Science and Technology

原文摘要

When asked explicitly, a Large language model (LLM) may validate your anger—but implicitly, it may still judge that anger as inappropriate. We call this divergence the endorsement–exposure gap, and it reveals that LLMs encode hidden norms about which emotions are acceptable in which contexts. To measure these norms systematically, we introduce Feeling Rules Atlas, a benchmark of 1,320 vignettes spanning 6 institutional settings, 12 roles, 7 emotions, and 5 intensity levels. We pair the benchmark with two probes: explicit norm judgments (APPROPRIATE/INAPPROPRIATE/DEPENDS) and implicit acceptability scored by log-likelihood contrast. Across six model families, we find large cross-model variation in sanctioning thresholds and institutional “norm signatures” not reducible to overall strictness; models that appear similarly lenient explicitly can diverge sharply in implicit judgments. These results establish normative affect—context-conditioned judgments of emotional appropriateness—as a distinct alignment axis, and motivate transparent profiling of feeling rules for emotionally sensitive deployments.
