Design the Feedback, Not Just the Reward: Environments for Open-Ended Reinforcement Learning

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning has advanced large language models on tasks with reliable verifiers, where checking an outcome provides a clear basis for reward. Extending this approach to open-ended tasks requires environments that can both evaluate complex, partially successful outputs and turn these judgments into effective learning guidance. We propose a reinforcement learning framework built around a training environment that integrates human domain knowledge with model reasoning. Human domain knowledge, encoded in rubrics, anchors evaluation to task intent, while model reasoning combined with hierarchical rewards distinguishes complex open-ended outputs and links diagnosed failures to likely responsible output regions. Furthermore, these diagnostic attributions guide token-level weights in the GRPO objective, thereby translating the ambiguous notion of success in open-ended tasks into concrete guidance for policy optimization. We instantiate this framework in interactive web application generation, a representative open-ended generation task. The resulting model achieves an average pass rate of 41.25\% on MiniAppBench and 76.19\% on ArtifactsBench. Ablation studies show the contributions of individual components, while additional out-of-distribution evaluations support transferable gains without degrading performance on other evaluated tasks.

MATCHA: A Chinese Multi-Disorder Mental Health Dataset with Cross-Lingual Analyses on Social Media

原文摘要

Mental health research on social media has been dominated by English-language datasets and DSM-5-centered resources, limiting cross-lingual and cross-cultural understanding of online mental health expression. We introduce MATCHA, the first Chinese multi-disorder mental health dataset that links disorder-specific Weibo Super-Topic communities with users' broader public timelines. MATCHA covers seven DSM-5 disorders and a control group, comprising 46,025 cohort-level users and 1.8 million posts. The dataset distinguishes users with explicit self-disclosure evidence from broader disorder-related participants through an LLM-assisted annotation pipeline, and is released in a rigorously de-identified, controlled-access format. Using MATCHA, we analyze behavioral, linguistic, symptom-related, and life-event-related patterns across disorders, and conduct cross-lingual comparisons with Twitter-STMHD. Our analyses show that Weibo Super-Topics function as concentrated spaces for affective and health-related expression, while cross-platform differences between Weibo and Twitter often exceed cross-disorder variation. MATCHA provides a new resource for community-aware and cross-lingual mental health NLP research.

Towards Fine-Grained and Multi-Granular Contrastive Language-Speech Pre-training

原文摘要

Modeling fine-grained speaking styles remains challenging for language-speech representation pre-training, as existing speech-text models are typically trained with coarse captions or task-specific supervision, and scalable fine-grained style annotations are unavailable. We present FCaps, a large-scale dataset with fine-grained free-text style descriptions, encompassing 47k hours of speech and 19M fine-grained captions annotated via a novel end-to-end pipeline that directly grounds detailed captions in audio, thereby avoiding the error propagation caused by LLM-based rewriting in existing cascaded pipelines. Evaluations using LLM-as-a-judge demonstrate that our annotations surpass existing cascaded annotations in terms of correctness, coverage, and naturalness. Building on FCaps, we propose CLSP, a contrastive language-speech pre-trained model that integrates global and fine-grained supervision, enabling unified representations across multiple granularities. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CLSP learns fine-grained and multi-granular speech-text representations that perform reliably across global and fine-grained speech-text retrieval, zero-shot paralinguistic classification, and speech style similarity scoring, with strong alignment to human judgments. Code and dataset are publicly available at https://github.com/yfyeung/CLSP.

Discovery and Reinforcement of Tool-Integrated Reasoning Chains via Rollout Trees

原文摘要

Tool-Integrated Reasoning has emerged as a key paradigm to augment Large Language Models (LLMs) with computational capabilities, yet integrating tool-use into long Chain-of-Thought (long CoT) remains underexplored, largely due to the scarcity of training data and the challenge of integrating tool-use without compromising the model’s intrinsic long-chain reasoning. In this paper, we introduce DART (Discovery And Reinforcement of Tool-Integrated Reasoning Chains via Rollout Trees), a reinforcement learning framework that enables spontaneous tool-use during long CoT reasoning without additional human annotation. DART operates by constructing dynamic rollout trees during training to discover valid tool-use opportunities, branching out at promising positions to explore tool-integrated trajectories. Subsequently, a tree-based process advantage estimation identifies and credits specific sub-trajectories where tool invocation positively contributes to the solution, effectively reinforcing these beneficial behaviors during training. Extensive experiments on challenging benchmarks like AIME and GPQA-Diamond demonstrate that DART significantly outperforms existing methods, successfully harmonizing tool execution with long CoT reasoning.
