Discarded or Unreachable? Diagnosing and Repairing Spatial Relation Failure in Vision--Language Similarity

Mahdi Mostajabdaveh, Zirui Zhou

Contrastive vision-language models score left/right relations near chance, but the symptom has two causes that call for opposite repairs: the relation may survive in the pooled embedding yet be unreachable by native image-text similarity, or pooling may discard it while the dense features retain it. On clean two object photographs, across ten encoders, the lateral polarity is linearly decodable from the flip odd component of the pooled vector at 0.77-0.99, yet a search over a million captions leaves nine of the ten at chance under native scoring: an access failure. On controlled C4 orbits, where the relation is the only thing that varies, pooling keeps the arrangement axis at 0.998-1.000 and loses its polarity, which the patch grid retains: a pooling failure. Both sit downstream of the dense features, so one readout covers both. Our zero parameter, query conditioned spatial moment recomputes the geometry from the patch grid and stores it as a vector beside the native embedding. On a 118,287 image index it raises left/right pairwise accuracy against reversed geometry negatives from 0.51-0.53 to 0.81-0.96 and conditional R@1 among 21 category matched candidates from 0.05 to 0.37-0.75, at under a millisecond per batched query, while reproducing the native ranking exactly for queries that name no relation.

CleanVideo: Adaptive Concept Erasure for Text-to-Video Diffusion Models

Junchi Liao, Hongji Li, Wenrui Zhou, Lijie Hu

Concept erasure aims to selectively eliminate undesired visual semantics from pre-trained generative models without compromising their general utility. Extending concept erasure from images to video is nontrivial. Target concepts emerge gradually and vary across frames and denoising steps. As a result, fixed interventions may miss the target or introduce blurring, jitter, and content distortion. We propose CleanVideo, a selective erasure framework that performs low-dimensional subspace intervention controlled by a tri-modal gating mechanism. By jointly processing spatiotemporal visual features, timestep signals, and textual semantics, CleanVideo determines where, when, and whether to intervene, steering erased content toward natural surrogate concepts when such surrogates can be clearly defined while preserving non-target content. Experiments on three video diffusion models show that CleanVideo effectively erases target concepts while maintaining visual fidelity and temporal coherence, outperforming existing baselines under frame-level and video-level evaluations and under concept-recovery attacks when the protected pipeline remains intact.

Seeing Through the Illusion: Test-Time Scaling for World Action Models

Cheikh Ahmed, Mahdi Mostajabdaveh, Milad Yazdani, Zirui Zhou

World action models (WAMs) jointly generate actions and imagined futures, but a plausible prediction need not be realized by its co-generated action. We introduce WISE (\emph{World Action Inference Scaling through Evaluation}), a pre-execution selector that scores each sampled rollout on action validity and temporal regularity, inverse-dynamics consistency between the proposed action and the imagined motion, and instruction-conditioned task progress, and executes the highest-scoring candidate while keeping the WAM frozen. With four candidates per decision, WISE raises closed-loop success from 6.0\% to 24.0\% on RoboLab with Cosmos~3 Edge and from 75.1\% to 78.3\% mean success on LIBERO with DreamZero, and exceeds the best existing selector in aggregate by 4.0 and 0.9 points. Component ablations and agreement analyses show that the three scores rank candidates differently and that task progress carries the largest weight in the fused decision.

Mosquito acoustic identification at unseen recording sites: practical limits of common transfer remedies for vector surveillance

Yucheng Gong, Rui Zhou, Binbin Zeng, Qiang Ren, Hongjin Hui

Passive acoustic monitoring could widen mosquito surveillance, but a classifier trained under one set of recording conditions often fails when moved to a new site, device or enclosure. On a nine-species, five-condition corpus of about 271,000 recordings, the published baseline identifies species at 0.881 balanced accuracy under conditions it has seen and 0.175 under held-out ones. Using that corpus's leave-domain protocol, we asked which transfer strategy is most reliable when a program brings a new site online. Using fixed features from a pre-trained bioacoustic model and a small classifier improved held-out-condition balanced accuracy to 0.305, without updating backbone weights and in minutes of training per site. Four widely used additions did not improve transfer: rebalancing training across recording conditions, fine-tuning the backbone and fusing a weaker second modality each reduced accuracy, and a six-term objective reduced to a single alignment term. Rebalancing reversed direction across four encoders, helping weak representations and harming strong ones. Genus-level aggregation was more accurate than species-level classification (about 0.50 against 0.30), suggesting genus-level screening may be the more realistic operating point here. These results come from one corpus under one protocol, and are dataset-bounded guidance rather than validated general rules.

RoboSnap: One-Shot Real-to-Sim Scene Generation for Generalizable Robot Learning and Evaluation

Shujie Zhang, Jingkun Yi, Weipeng Zhong, Zirui Zhou, Yangkun Zhu, Hanqing Wang, Xudong Xu, Weinan Zhang 等 9 位作者

Recovering real-world scenes as interactive simulation environments can enable generalizable robot learning and reproducible policy evaluation. However, constructing scenes that are both physically stable and visually faithful remains slow and expensive. In this work, we present RoboSnap, a real-to-sim framework that turns a single RGB image into a simulation-ready scene. The key idea is a layered design that separates the physics-critical interaction area from the surrounding visual context: collision-aware foreground assets are refined for stable robot interaction, while a 3D Gaussian splatting visual layer preserves faithful background appearance under novel views. Experiments on DROID scenes and real-robot tasks show that RoboSnap achieves reliable trajectory replay in the recovered scenes, supports task-specific synthetic data generation for policy training, and yields meaningful sim-real correlation for policy evaluation. To further support real-to-sim research, we introduce DROID-Sim, a real-to-sim companion dataset constructed from 564 real-world scenes in DROID. Extensive experiments suggest that the value of real-to-sim methods lies not only in high-fidelity visual reconstruction, but in turning real environments into reusable infrastructure for robot learning and evaluation.

Pharos-ESG: A Framework for Multimodal Parsing, Contextual Narration, and Hierarchical Labeling of ESG Report

Yan Chen, Yu Zou, Jialei Zeng, Haoran You, Xiaorui Zhou, Aixi Zhong

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are reshaping the foundations of global financial governance, transforming capital allocation architectures, regulatory frameworks, and systemic risk coordination mechanisms. However, as the core medium for assessing corporate ESG performance, the ESG reports present significant challenges for large-scale understanding, due to chaotic reading order from slide-like irregular layouts and implicit hierarchies arising from lengthy, weakly structured content. To address these challenges, we propose Pharos-ESG, a unified framework that transforms ESG reports into structured representations through multimodal parsing, contextual narration, and hierarchical labeling. It integrates a reading-order modeling module based on layout flow, hierarchy-aware segmentation guided by table-of-contents anchors, and a multi-modal aggregation pipeline that contextually transforms visual elements into coherent natural language. The framework further enriches its outputs with ESG, GRI, and sentiment labels, yielding annotations aligned with the analytical demands of financial research. Extensive experiments on annotated benchmarks demonstrate that Pharos-ESG consistently outperforms both dedicated document parsing systems and general-purpose multimodal models. In addition, we release Aurora-ESG, the first large-scale public dataset of ESG reports, spanning Mainland China, Hong Kong, and U.S. markets, featuring unified structured representations of multi-modal content, enriched with fine-grained layout and semantic annotations to better support ESG integration in financial governance and decision-making.

HEDGE: Gated Hypergraph Memory for Scalable Multi-Agent Debate

Amirhossein Abaskohi, Mahdi Mostajabdaveh, Zirui Zhou

Multi-agent debate systems require agents to retain and revisit arguments across multiple rounds, yet limited context windows and unstructured memories make relevant information increasingly difficult to recover. Existing flat and pairwise-graph memories also struggle to capture higher-order relations, including multi-agent agreement, conflicting evidence, and evolving consensus. We introduce HEDGE, a selective memory framework that represents debate trajectories as semantic hypergraphs. Hyperedges connect related claims across agents, while intra-hyperedge relational graphs preserve fine-grained argumentative structure. A learned memory selection module (MSM), trained through supervised learning and reinforcement learning, routes each memory candidate to STORE, BACKUP, or OMIT, retaining useful information while limiting redundancy. Across seven diverse benchmarks, HEDGE consistently outperforms strong single-agent, multi-agent, and memory baselines, improving accuracy by 5.0 points on average over the strongest multi-agent system with GPT-4o-mini. The gains reach 8.2 points on conflict-heavy tasks, while HEDGE reduces memory usage by 48% and the number of debate rounds by 34%.

OneRec-Think: In-Text Reasoning for Generative Recommendation

Zhanyu Liu, Shiyao Wang, Xingmei Wang, Rongzhou Zhang, Jiaxin Deng, Honghui Bao, Jinghao Zhang Kuaishou- 快手科技, Wuchao Li 等 26 位作者

The powerful generative capacity of Large Language Models (LLMs) has instigated a paradigm shift in recommendation. However, existing generative models (e.g., OneRec) operate as implicit predictors, critically lacking the capacity for explicit and controllable reasoning—a key advantage of LLMs. To bridge this gap, we propose OneRec-Think, a unified framework that seamlessly integrates dialogue, reasoning, and personalized recommendation. OneRec-Think incorporates: (1) Itemic Alignment: cross-modal Item-Textual Alignment for semantic grounding; (2) Reasoning Activation: Reasoning Scaffolding to activate LLM reasoning within the recommendation context; and (3) Reasoning Enhancement, where we design a recommendation-specific reward function that accounts for the multi-validity nature of user preferences. Experiments across public benchmarks show state-of-the-art performance. Moreover, our proposed “Think-Ahead” architecture enables effective industrial deployment, achieving a 0.159% gain in APP Stay Time and validating the practical efficacy of the model’s explicit reasoning capability.

Seeing but Not Thinking: Routing Distraction in Multimodal Mixture-of-Experts

Haolei Xu Zhejiang University, Haiwen Hong Alibaba Group, Hongxing Li, Rui Zhou, Yang Zhang, Longtao Huang Alibaba Group, Hui Xue, Yongliang Shen Zhejiang University 等 10 位作者

Multimodal Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models have achieved remarkable performance on vision-language tasks. However, we identify a puzzling phenomenon termed Seeing but Not Thinking: models accurately perceive image content yet fail in subsequent reasoning, while correctly solving identical problems presented as pure text. Through systematic analysis, we first verify that cross-modal semantic sharing exists in MoE architectures, ruling out semantic alignment failure as the sole explanation. We then reveal that visual experts and domain experts exhibit layer-wise separation, with image inputs inducing significant routing divergence from text inputs in middle layers where domain experts concentrate. Based on these findings, we propose the Routing Distraction hypothesis: when processing visual inputs, the routing mechanism fails to adequately activate task-relevant reasoning experts. To validate this hypothesis, we design a routing-guided intervention method that enhances domain expert activation. Experiments on three multimodal MoE models across six benchmarks demonstrate consistent improvements, with gains of up to 3.17% on complex visual reasoning tasks. Our analysis further reveals that domain expert identification locates cognitive functions rather than sample-specific solutions, enabling effective transfer across tasks with different information structures.

Compressing then Matching: An Efficient Pre-training Paradigm for Multimodal Embedding

Da Li, Yuxiao Luo, Keping Bi Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jiafeng Guo Institute of Computing Technolgy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wei Yuan Kuaishou- 快手科技, Biao Yang, Yan Wang, Fan Yang Kuaishou- 快手科技 等 10 位作者

Multimodal Large Language Models advance multimodal representation learning by acquiring transferable semantic embeddings, thereby substantially enhancing performance across a range of vision-language tasks, including cross-modal retrieval, clustering, and classification. An effective embedding is expected to comprehensively preserve the semantic content of the input while simultaneously emphasizing features that are discriminative for downstream tasks. Recent approaches demonstrate that MLLMs can be adapted into competitive embedding models via large-scale contrastive learning, enabling the simultaneous optimization of two complementary objectives. We argue that the two aforementioned objectives can be decoupled: a comprehensive understanding of the input enables the embedding model to achieve superior performance on downstream tasks via contrastive learning. In this paper, we propose CoMa, a compressed pre-training phase, which serves as a warm-up stage for contrastive learning. Experiments demonstrate that with only a small amount of pre-training data, we can transform an MLLM into a competitive embedding model. CoMa achieves new state-of-the-art results among MLLMs of comparable size on the MMEB, realizing optimization in both efficiency and effectiveness. Our project is available at https://github.com/Trustworthy-Information-Access/CoMa.

CE-GPPO: Coordinating Entropy via Gradient-Preserving Clipping Policy Optimization in Reinforcement Learning

Zhenpeng Su, Leiyu Pan Tianjin University, Minxuan Lv, Yuntao Li, Wenping Hu, Fuzheng Zhang, Kun Gai Kuaishou- 快手科技, Guorui Zhou Kuaishou- 快手科技

Reinforcement learning (RL) has become a powerful paradigm for optimizing large language models (LLMs) to handle complex reasoning tasks. A core challenge in this process lies in managing policy entropy, which reflects the balance between exploration and exploitation during training. Existing methods, such as proximal policy optimization (PPO) and its variants, discard valuable gradient signals from low-probability tokens due to the clipping mechanism. We systematically analyze the entropy dynamics and reveal that these clipped tokens play a critical yet overlooked role in regulating entropy evolution. We propose Coordinating Entropy via Gradient-Preserving Policy Optimization (CE-GPPO), a novel algorithm that reintroduces gradients from clipped tokens in native PPO in a gentle and bounded manner. By controlling the magnitude of gradients from tokens outside the clipping interval, CE-GPPO is able to achieve an exploration-exploitation trade-off. We provide theoretical justification and empirical evidence showing that CE-GPPO effectively mitigates entropy instability. Extensive experiments on mathematical reasoning benchmarks show that CE-GPPO consistently outperforms strong baselines across different model scales.

Flattery in Motion: Benchmarking and Analyzing Sycophancy in Video-LLMs

Wenrui Zhou, Mohamed Hendy, Shu Yang, Qingsong Yang, Zikun Guo, Yuyu Luo The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lijie Hu MBZUAI, Di Wang KAUST

As video large language models (Video-LLMs) become increasingly integrated into real-world applications that demand grounded multimodal reasoning, ensuring their factual consistency and reliability is of critical importance. However, sycophancy, the tendency of these models to align with user input even when it contradicts the visual evidence, undermines their trustworthiness in such contexts. Current sycophancy research has largely overlooked its specific manifestations in the video-language domain, resulting in a notable absence of systematic benchmarks and targeted evaluations to understand how Video-LLMs respond under misleading user input. To fill this gap, we propose ViSE (Video-LLM Sycophancy Benchmarking and Evaluation), the first benchmark designed to evaluate sycophantic behavior in state-of-the-art Video-LLMs across diverse question formats, prompt biases, and visual reasoning tasks. Specifically, ViSE pioneeringly brings linguistic perspectives on sycophancy into the video domain, enabling fine-grained analysis across multiple sycophancy types and interaction patterns. Furthermore, we propose two potential training-free mitigation strategies revealing potential paths for reducing sycophantic bias: (i) enhancing visual grounding through interpretable key-frame selection and (ii) steering model behavior away from sycophancy via targeted, inference-time intervention on its internal neural representations. Our code is available at https://github.com/William030422/Video-Sycophancy.

DPWriter: Reinforcement Learning with Diverse Planning Branching for Creative Writing

Qian Cao, Yahui Liu, Wei Bi Independent Researcher, Yi Zhao, Ruihua Song, Xiting Wang Renmin University of China, Ruiming Tang, Guorui Zhou Kuaishou- 快手科技 等 9 位作者

Reinforcement learning (RL)-based enhancement of large language models (LLMs) often leads to reduced output diversity, undermining their utility in open-ended tasks like creative writing. Current methods lack explicit mechanisms for guiding diverse exploration and instead prioritize optimization efficiency and performance over diversity. This paper proposes an RL framework structured around a semi-structured long Chain-of-Thought (CoT), in which the generation process is decomposed into explicitly planned intermediate steps. We introduce a Diverse Planning Branching method that strategically introduces divergence at the planning phase based on diversity variation, alongside a group-aware diversity reward to encourage distinct trajectories. Experimental results on creative writing benchmarks demonstrate that our approach significantly improves output diversity without compromising generation quality, consistently outperforming existing baselines.
