EvoOPD: Evolving Privileged Information Strategies for Black-Box On-Policy Distillation

原文摘要

Proprietary language models exhibit strong reasoning and coding capabilities, but their output distributions are inaccessible, making fine-grained distillation methods that rely on teacher logits difficult to apply directly to black-box models. We observe that rich textual feedback from a black-box teacher can be treated as privileged information (PI) and converted, through a PI-conditioned privileged teacher, into dense supervision signals on the student's own trajectories. However, what PI should be acquired from the teacher to most effectively support student learning remains unclear. PI strategies that differ in where they focus, what information they request, and how much detail they provide can have substantially different effects on the current student, and their relative effectiveness can further change as training progresses. Based on this observation, we propose Evolving Privileged Information Strategies for Black-Box On-Policy Distillation (EvoOPD), which treats PI acquisition itself as an optimization problem and maintains a PI Strategy Bank that evolves with the student state. EvoOPD uses the measured repair utility of PI on the current student to adapt the focus, information type, and granularity of teacher feedback, allowing the acquired information to continually match the student's learning needs. We systematically evaluate EvoOPD on mathematical reasoning and code generation with Qwen3-1.7B, 4B, and 8B students. EvoOPD achieves the best overall performance in all six model-task settings, improving over the strongest baseline in each setting by an average of 2.14 percentage points in mathematics and 1.30 points in code. Further analysis shows that the relative effectiveness of PI acquisition strategies changes with student state, making a fixed strategy difficult to sustain as the best choice throughout distillation.

VerdictAD: Few-Shot Anomaly Detection via Decision-Guided Refinement

原文摘要

Detecting defects in real-world industrial inspection often requires learning from only a few normal images per category. Recent few-shot anomaly detection methods have achieved strong performance by measuring feature differences between query images and normal references. However, visual differences do not always indicate genuine defects, as normal appearance variations can also produce high anomaly scores. Conversely, structural or logical anomalies may not produce strong local feature differences, making them difficult to detect. To address this limitation, we introduce VerdictAD, a training-free framework that refines existing anomaly detectors through visual decisions. Rather than replacing existing detectors, VerdictAD adopts a typed decision model to assess the query image and its local regions against a few normal references. By directly producing structured decision probabilities without text generation, the model provides complementary evidence for refining anomaly responses at different spatial scales. Building on this capability, we introduce two modules: Global Verdict Refinement (GVR) uses image-level decisions to refine the overall anomaly score, while Local Verdict Refinement (LVR) aggregates regional decisions to refine the anomaly map. Combined with a simple DINOv2-based detector, VerdictAD achieves competitive performance in one-shot and few-shot anomaly detection. More importantly, as a plug-and-play framework, it consistently improves existing anomaly detectors across MVTec AD, VisA, and MVTec LOCO AD, achieving strong results across one-shot and few-shot settings. Our code and experimental logs are publicly available at https://github.com/sgstq0811/VerdictAD-Jev-AD.

Rethinking the Readout: Unlocking Video Backbones for AI-Generated Video Detection

原文摘要

AI-generated videos (AIGVs) typically contain subtle temporal artifacts that arise from inter-frame inconsistencies rather than within individual frames. A detector that captures such artifacts should therefore benefit from video pretrained backbones over image only ones. In practice, however, video backbones with standard global readouts often fail to outperform strong image pretrained probes on AIGV benchmarks. We attribute this gap to excessive spatiotemporal aggregation in the readout. Video pretrained backbones tend to compress each frame into a single global descriptor. This compression suppresses local patch level temporal dynamics and discards inter patch relations, which are precisely the cues that AIGV detection most reliably depends on. Based on this, we propose Velocity Gated Patch Velocity Profiling (V-PVP), a lightweight readout that replaces only the aggregation layer with two parallel streams over the patch velocity field, adding only about $0.5$M trainable parameters. V-PVP serves as a general plug-and-play module that consistently improves performance across diverse video backbones under both end-to-end fine-tuning and linear probing settings. Our method reaches 95.28 AUC on AIGVDBench while keeping the backbone fully frozen. The results show that simply replacing the aggregation layer reactivates the temporal potential of frozen video backbones, restoring their advantage on AIGV detection. Every Token Counts: Generalizing 16M Ultra-Long Context in Large Language Models

Xiang Hu, Zhanchao Zhou, Ruiqi Liang, Zehuan Li, Wei Wu Ant Research, Jianguo Li

原文摘要

This work explores efficient ultra-long context modeling. We posit that an effective solution requires three fundamental properties: sparsity, random-access flexibility, and length generalization. To achieve this, we leverage Hierarchical Sparse Attention (HSA), a novel attention mechanism that satisfies all three properties. We integrate HSA into the Transformer architecture to develop HSA-UltraLong, an 8B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model trained on over 8 trillion tokens. We rigorously evaluate the model across tasks with both in-domain and out-of-domain context lengths to validate its capabilities. Our model demonstrates comparable performance to full-attention baselines on in-domain sequence lengths. Crucially, it achieves over 90% accuracy on most in-context retrieval tasks with contexts up to 512 times the pre-training context length. This work reports our findings and remaining issues throughout the experiments, offering insights for future research in ultra-long context modeling.
