CulturalRiddles: A Multicultural Benchmark of Riddles

原文摘要

As LLMs expand their language coverage, evaluating how well they understand and represent diverse cultures becomes increasingly important. However, many benchmarks remain English-centric, with limited cultural coverage and a focus on factual knowledge over its application in real-world cultural contexts. We propose CulturalRiddles, a benchmark of original, culturally grounded riddles created entirely by humans through a participatory community effort, spanning 62 cultures (45 countries, 51 languages). These riddles are deeply rooted in their respective cultures and require abductive and compositional reasoning, alongside detailed factual and social knowledge, language skills, and an understanding of culturally specific associations. We benchmark 28 LLM configurations using both automatic and large-scale human evaluation. Even frontier models achieve at most 22% accuracy in some communities. We publicly release all artifacts alongside an open contribution process to expand the benchmark's linguistic and cultural coverage.

Provenance-Aware Belief Updating in Human-AI Feedback Loops

Tianyi Huang, Eric Liu, Jay Chong, Emily Yin, Wanqi Zhao

原文摘要

In repeated human-AI interaction, a single observation can be quoted, summarized, and returned to a model as multiple reports, making repetition look like independent corroboration. We study whether language models can use supplied report lineage to update according to evidence provenance rather than report count. We introduce Latent Quotient Evidence Training (LQET), a relational objective that combines sparse Bayesian supervision with constraints that encourage stable predictions when reports add no new evidence and consistent updates to the same new evidence across relay histories. On a controlled binary benchmark, LQET reduces new-evidence update RMSE by 41-44\% and log-odds drift after eight relay steps by 89-91\% relative to task-only training across Qwen3-4B and Phi-4-mini, with three paired training seeds per backbone. The gains extend to a closed-loop simulation in which model confidence controls how many relayed reports re-enter the model's context in later rounds. By grounding belief updates in supplied provenance, LQET offers a route toward dynamic human-AI systems in which influence follows new evidence, not the number of times the same evidence returns.

EgoHand: Monocular 3D Hand Reconstruction from Egocentric Video

原文摘要

We introduce EgoHand, a monocular 3D hand reconstruction model that achieves state-of-the-art performance on egocentric video. Central to our approach is the curation of a high-quality training corpus of 14 million images, combining synthetic data, in-the-wild video, and multi-camera motion capture to balance scene diversity and supervision quality. The model adopts SOMA-Hand as its parametric representation and processes 2D hand crops with a transformer encoder, incorporating camera cues and an auxiliary 2D branch to improve geometric consistency and image alignment. Zero-shot evaluations on HOT3D, ARCTIC, and H2O demonstrate strong out-of-domain generalization, with lower joint-position, root-translation, and acceleration errors than competing baselines at an inference latency of approximately 9.01 ms. A blinded user preference study further shows that participants favor EgoHand's reconstructed hand poses over those from Apple EgoDex and Ropedia Xperience-10M. We release the EgoHand model and source code under the OpenMDW license, allowing free commercial use of the model.

Culinary Crossroads: A RAG Framework for Enhancing Diversity in Cross-Cultural Recipe Adaptation

原文摘要

In cross-cultural recipe adaptation, the goal is not only to ensure cultural appropriateness and retain the original dish’s essence, but also to provide diverse options for various dietary needs and preferences. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is a promising approach, combining the retrieval of real recipes from the target cuisine for cultural adaptability with large language models (LLMs) for relevance. However, it remains unclear whether RAG can generate diverse adaptation results. Our analysis shows that RAG tends to overly rely on a limited portion of the context across generations, failing to produce diverse outputs even when provided with varied contextual inputs. This reveals a key limitation of RAG in creative tasks with multiple valid answers: it fails to leverage contextual diversity for generating varied responses. To address this issue, we propose CARRIAGE, A plug-and-play RAG framework for cross-cultural recipe adaptation that enhances diversity in both retrieval and context organization. To our knowledge, this is the first RAG framework that explicitly aims to generate highly diverse outputs to accommodate multiple user preferences. Our experiments show that CARRIAGE achieves Pareto efficiency in terms of diversity and quality of recipe adaptation compared to closed-book LLMs.
