Look at Where You Think: Localization-Head Alignment for Fine-Grained Perception in Thinking VLMs

Yuan Wang, Wei Wu, Hongning Wang

Thinking vision-language models reason for thousands of tokens, yet still miss small details in high-resolution images. Zooming methods pay for extra inference passes, and outcome rewards never tell the model where to look at. In Qwen3.5-4B, we find that the bottleneck is selection, not seeing: a few attention heads, which we call localization heads, pick the evidence out of thousands of visual tokens; ablating four of them costs 13.2 points more than ablating four random heads, and their focus fades as the reasoning grows. We therefore propose Localization-Head Alignment (LHA), which makes attention a training signal: whenever the reasoning states a visual fact, these heads learn to look at the focal region rather than the background, as an auxiliary loss in both SFT and RL training. On benchmarks of V*, HR-Bench 4K and TreeBench, LHA lifts Qwen3.5-4B from 74.1% to 76.6% accuracy, the best single-pass 4B result we evaluate, ahead of multi-pass zooming and released 7B models. Alignment alone adds 1.8 points over otherwise identical training while shortening reasoning by 20%, and the gains carry over to Qwen2.5-VL-3B.

PDScope: Breaking the Prefill-Decode Seesaw for Memory-Bound MoE Inference

Enda Yu, Dezun Dong, Zhaoning Zhang, Xiaojian Yang, Weiling Yang, Shaonan Ma, Dongsheng Li, Yongwei Wu 等 9 位作者

Local deployment of MoE-based LLMs on CPU-GPU nodes is attractive for cost and privacy reasons, yet limited GPU memory forces most experts into CPU memory. Prefill is then compute-bound and benefits from aggressive GPU loading, while decode is I/O-bound and requires conservative PCIe transfers. These demands cannot be amortized under low batching---typical of local assistants and document tools---forcing phase-agnostic schedulers into a seesaw: favoring prefill's aggressive loading injects unmaskable I/O that stalls decode, while favoring decode's conservative transfers starves prefill's GPU of work. We observe that expert routing is predictable in phase-specific ways, allowing us to decouple the two phases and optimize prediction, scheduling, and execution independently for each phase. PDScope predicts expert activations to guide placement and prefetching, adapts these policies to each phase's bottleneck via cross-layer cost modeling, and compiles decisions into overhead-free pipelines using a static computation graph, cache prefetching, and zero-copy asynchronous I/O. On mainstream MoE models, PDScope achieves 2.5-10.3x higher prefill throughput and 2.1-6.1x higher decode throughput than existing systems, showing that phase-aware co-design unlocks efficient MoE inference under memory constraints and extends naturally to multi-batch settings.

A-RSI: Adaptive Task Refresh for Zero-Data Multimodal Self-Improvement

Yu Liu, Youxing Li, Yuedong Tan, Zhiwei Yang, Zihan Su, Hanqi Feng, Shaojie Zhang, Libin Liao 等 20 位作者

Recursive self-improvement requires models not only to acquire useful training experience, but also to decide when their current experience has ceased to be useful. Existing methods often focus on what experience to generate next, while paying less attention to when fresh experience should be introduced. Many also construct training targets through self-consistency or majority voting, making supervision depend on the model's own uncertain predictions. We address these two questions separately: training dynamics determine when to acquire new experience, while the answers to new tasks remain independently checkable. A-RSI monitors reward variation and accuracy in training logs to refresh a task pool when its learning signal declines, without consulting validation or test scores. A static library of model-authored programs produces multimodal questions and derives their reference answers; we specify the task-generation contract, automatically verify chosen properties of the reward and refresh rules, and separately audit the generated answers. The training loop uses no external training examples or human-written answer labels. On the primary eleven-benchmark suite, A-RSI raises the performance average from 57.77 to 61.05 with 800 fresh tasks.

S$^2$-MAS: A Society-Scale Multi-Agent Simulation Framework with a 500-Million-Persona Resource

Yang Li, Yike Wang, Di Wan, Chujun He, Zongsi Xu, Yitao Yu, Shuai Zhong, Minghao Pan 等 23 位作者

Simulating economic responses at society scale requires decision rules that respond to household circumstances and accounting rules that track their consequences. We introduce S$^2$-MAS, a multi-agent simulation framework with a resource of 500 million synthetic household personas. It combines trainable candidate-scoring policies, reusable financial scenarios and explicit state transitions. Trained with SFT + RLCD on 2.93 million examples, YN-mini-MLX achieves 74.55% accuracy and 38.37% question-macro F1 on held-out consumer financial-choice tasks, improving on the training-question majority baseline by 2.78 and 6.21 percentage points. A completed application evaluates 12 million distinct households in two purchase-funding conditions: 24 million one-shot choices feed 288 million monthly ledger states in 3 h 59 min on 14 GPUs. Jointly increasing purchase goals and approved limits produces heterogeneous consumption, cash and repayment paths, with much of the consumption variation arising from transitions between deferral and purchase. In a separate 1,060-household retrospective consumption experiment, standalone YN-master-9B has 3.42% lower annual MAE than the deterministic fully rational benchmark, alongside a 19.7% lower predicted population mean than observed. Information-timing tests show how year labels and later outcome information change decisions. Together, these experiments establish an executable alternative for studying heterogeneous household behavior with learned policies and explicit financial accounting.

The uneven rise of AI-generated web content

In less than five years, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has dramatically reshaped the public-facing web. Using a sample of more than 5 million crawlable webpages, we demonstrate that the share containing AI-generated text has increased precipitously, but unevenly. Our analyses reveal substantial differences in AI composition across language and domain categories (e.g., .edu, .com, or .gov). A higher fraction of English-language webpages contain AI-generated text compared to pages in other languages, and prevalence is substantially lower on .gov and .edu domains compared to .com. These distinctions persist even after accounting for compositional effects. We also find heterogeneity based on a page's position in the connectivity structure of the web. AI-generated text is most common and has increased most rapidly in pages that are the least central in the graph, which drives much of the overall growth in AI-generated text. A slower increase has taken place for more central pages, with the most central tier emerging as the least likely to contain AI-generated text. Methodologically, we use multiple AI detection tools, and generate estimates using a Bayesian hierarchical model that incorporates corrections for the detectors' statistical properties (both false positives and false negatives) and allows for different detector performance across groups, while propagating uncertainty in detector error rates into prevalence estimates. Our work suggests that AI is a prominent, but varied, contributor to public information and internet-based communication.

ARISE: Authentic Reference-Informed Stability Enhancement for Continual Multimodal Forgery Detection

Yuchen Zhang, Yaxiong Wang, Yujiao Wu, Lianwei Wu, Qi Zhang, Li Zhu, Chaofeng Dong, Le Wu 等 9 位作者

Multimodal forgery detection is commonly studied under a static assumption: training attacks are expected to approximate those encountered after deployment. This assumption becomes increasingly fragile as generators, editing systems, and multimodal large language models continually introduce new forgery mechanisms and forensic evidence. We formulate this problem as attack-incremental continual multimodal forgery detection, where the binary real/fake interface remains fixed while emerging attacks must be learned without forgetting previous ones. We introduce Fable-Bench, which organizes attack evolution through complementary joint-modality, text-side, and image-side protocols. We further propose ARISE (Authentic Reference-Informed Stability Enhancement), motivated by the open-ended forged class and the comparatively reusable geometry of authentic content. ARISE fits a real-only Gaussian mixture model to projected authentic replay representations as a compact historical reference. Meanwhile, the proposed Gaussian-Responsibility-Aware Stability Preservation (GRASP) derives a sample-adaptive anisotropic metric that strongly constrains historically stable representation directions while retaining plasticity elsewhere. Our Vulnerability-Aware Replay (VAR) further estimates stage-wise vulnerability from authentic-density degradation, forged-to-authentic boundary confusion, and authentic-mode occupancy drift, then assigns bounded replay emphasis to fragile stages. All adaptive signals are obtained from training-time replay statistics, while inference uses only the original multimodal backbone and binary classification head. Experiments across three attack-evolution protocols and multiple detector architectures demonstrate improved historical retention and final average performance over representative continual-learning baselines.

WorldArena 2.0: Extending Embodied World Model Benchmarking on Modality, Functionality and Platform

Zhuohang Li, Yiding Ma, Yu Shang, Lei Jin, Shengyuan Wang, Jianjie Fang, Zhaolu Wang, Xvyuan Liu 等 29 位作者

World models have emerged as a central paradigm for embodied intelligence, enabling agents to predict action-conditioned future and reason about environmental dynamics. However, existing embodied world model benchmarks are still largely confined to vision-only prediction, offline embodied applications, and simulator-based evaluation, making them insufficient for assessing increasingly comprehensive world models. In this work, we introduce WorldArena 2.0, an expanded benchmark that systematically broadens embodied world model evaluation along three dimensions: modality, functionality, and platform. Along the modality dimension, WorldArena 2.0 extends evaluation from vision-only to visuotactile modalities, enabling assessment of multimodal perception and prediction. Along the functionality dimension, it extends beyond policy evaluation and planning to assess world models as interactive RL environments for policy optimization. Along the platform dimension, it moves beyond simulator-only evaluation to a diverse suite of simulated and real-world robotic settings across multiple embodiments. Under a standardized protocol, WorldArena 2.0 comprehensively evaluates perceptual quality, interactive utility, and cross-platform performance, providing a comprehensive testbed for tracking progress toward embodied world models. The project page including codes and demos is available at: https://world-arena.ai/.

MMS Allocation for Chores with Item Disposals

Shinuo Ma, Xiaowei Wu

Web platforms organize collective work, including content review and community maintenance, that imposes heterogeneous effort costs on participants. Fairly distributing these burdens while leaving as few tasks unassigned as possible is a natural objective for the design of such platforms. We study this through the maximin share (MMS) allocation problem with chore disposals under nonnegative additive costs. Our goal is to minimize the number of unassigned chores while guaranteeing every agent her MMS benchmark from the original instance. We prove that, for every instance with $n \ge 4$ agents, at most $n-3$ chore disposals suffice. We improve the bound of $2m/11+n$ disposals established by Barman et al. (2025), where $m$ is the number of chores, and eliminate the dependence on $m$. For four agents, we obtain a tight bound: one disposal always suffices, whereas known instances admit no complete MMS allocation (Ezra and Garbuz, 2026). We also prove the same result for goods: $n-3$ duplications suffice to ensure MMS.

One-shot Human Video-Guided Adaptation for Vision-Language-Action Models

Qi Chen, Yuwei Wu, Quan Chen, Kunpeng Gao, Jin Chen, Che Sun, Zhi Gao, Yunde Jia

Vision-language-action (VLA) models have recently achieved remarkable progress by leveraging large-scale robot datasets and foundation models for general-purpose robot manipulation. However, their ability to rapidly adapt to novel manipulation tasks beyond the training distribution remains limited. Existing approaches often require task-specific robot demonstrations and additional training, which are labor- and compute-intensive, limiting the scalability of VLA adaptation to open-world scenarios. To reduce this dependence on target-task robot data, we propose CapPro, a framework that enables a VLA policy to adapt to previously unseen manipulation tasks using only a single human demonstration video. CapPro consists of two components. First, a phase-aware human video representation module constructs a compact video representation through learned visual token selection and learns task-relevant query representations under phase-caption supervision. Second, a video-conditioned adaptation module jointly incorporates the compact video and query-derived representations into the action-conditioning context of the pretrained VLA policy. % This design introduces task-specific guidance while largely preserving the original VLA action-generation backbone. In this way, the human demonstration provides task-specific execution guidance rather than an embodiment-aligned trajectory to imitate, without requiring target-task robot demonstrations or target-task fine-tuning. Experiments across source and unseen target tasks show that CapPro improves average performance across unseen target groups while maintaining comparable performance on the source tasks. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of human-video guidance for cross-task VLA adaptation.

AIPC: Evidence-Guided Agent Workflows for PyTorch Project Deployment

Zhanwei Wu, Jianhao Su, Brian Zhang, ShengTing Huang, Weidong Feng, Gang Liu, Zhiguo Li, Wei Huang 等 14 位作者

Deploying and optimizing a PyTorch inference project on a dedicated accelerator, especially an on-device NPU, requires more than using a framework device API as with CUDA. The project must be converted into hardware-runtime artifacts and adapted to the target toolchain and application interface. Differences in model formats, quantization flows, operator support, and toolchain interfaces create cross-layer problems spanning PyTorch/ONNX models, toolchains, runtimes, and device execution. LLM Agents can invoke tools to address such problems, but may drift because of insufficient domain knowledge, large configuration and repair spaces, or poor path selection. We propose AIPC (AI Porting & Conversion), an Agent method for deploying PyTorch inference projects. AIPC combines structured Skills with toolchain, runtime, and profiling evidence to drive cross-layer diagnosis and repair, organizing model adaptation, artifact building, on-target execution, accuracy repair, and performance optimization into one deployment flow. We evaluate AIPC on the on-device NPU path of Qualcomm QAIRT across vision, speech, LLM, and diffusion models. In two optimization cases, 6/7 Skill-arm Whisper-Small runs meet predefined accuracy and latency criteria versus 0/6 control runs, while YOLO-Worldv2 achieves a 2.791x end-to-end speedup versus 1.599x for the control. Under a pre-fixed deployment contract, Skill, tool permissions, and check conditions, some runs achieve zero in-run human intervention (0-HITL). We also examine Qwen3.8-27B as a locally deployable model for driving an Agent workflow.

FOCUS: Benchmarking Retinal Model Generalization from Foundation Vision Encoders to Multimodal LLMs

David Restrepo, Chenwei Wu, Luis Filipe Nakayama, Miguel L. Martins, Stergios Christodoulidis, Maria Vakalopoulou, Enzo Ferrante

Progress in AI-based retinal image analysis has accelerated with the adoption of foundation models, yet evaluating their real-world reliability remains challenging. Performance reported on a single dataset does not capture how models behave under dataset shift, across clinical definitions, or for different patient subgroups. This limitation is particularly critical in medical imaging, where robustness, calibration, and fairness are essential for safe deployment. We introduce FOCUS (Foundation Ophthalmic Cross-Dataset Understanding under Shift), a cross-dataset benchmark evaluating retinal fundus models across vision-only encoder models (VM), vision-language dual-encoder models (VLM), and multimodal large language models (MLLM). FOCUS harmonizes binary diabetic retinopathy, referable diabetic retinopathy, and glaucomatous optic neuropathy tasks across ten public datasets spanning diverse geographies, acquisition conditions, and label protocols. The benchmark evaluates models through a unified analysis layer that measures ranking performance, calibration, subgroup disparities, and image-quality robustness. We present a large-scale evaluation covering 532 base configurations and 228 MLLM configurations adapted via LoRA fine-tuning. Results show no model family consistently dominates across tasks and datasets: general VM encoders achieve the strongest average ranking performance, medical MLLMs are competitive but variable, and dual-encoder VLMs benefit substantially from lightweight adaptation. Fine-tuning improves in-domain performance but exhibits heterogeneous transfer to external datasets, particularly in calibration. FOCUS provides a practical framework and public benchmark to assess generalization, reliability, and robustness beyond single-dataset leaderboards.

Anti-Length Shift: Dynamic Outlier Truncation for Training Efficient Reasoning Models

Wei Wu, Liyi Chen Xiaohongshu Inc., Congxi Xiao University of Science and Technology of China, Tianfu Wang The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Qimeng Wang Xiaohongshu, Chengqiang Lu Xiaohongshu, Yan Gao, Yiwu Xiaohongshu 等 10 位作者

Large reasoning models enhanced by reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards have achieved significant performance gains by extending their chain-of-thought. However, this paradigm incurs substantial deployment costs as models often exhibit excessive verbosity on simple queries. Existing efficient reasoning methods relying on explicit length penalties often introduce optimization conflicts and leave the generative mechanisms driving overthinking largely unexamined. In this paper, we identify a phenomenon termed length shift where models increasingly generate unnecessary reasoning on trivial inputs during training. To address this, we introduce Dynamic Outlier Truncation (DOT), a training-time intervention that selectively suppresses redundant tokens. This method targets only the extreme tail of response lengths within fully correct rollout groups while preserving long-horizon reasoning capabilities for complex problems. To complement this intervention and ensure stable convergence, we further incorporate auxiliary KL regularization and predictive dynamic sampling. Experimental results across multiple model scales demonstrate that our approach significantly pushes the efficiency-performance Pareto frontier outward. Notably, on the AIME-24, our method reduces inference token usage by 78% while simultaneously increasing accuracy compared to the initial policy and surpassing state-of-the-art efficient reasoning methods.

Cultivating Forensic Reasoning for Generalizable Multimodal Manipulation Detection

Yuchen Zhang Xi'an Jiaotong University, Yaxiong Wang Hefei University of Technology, Kecheng Han, Yujiao Wu CSIRO, Lianwei Wu, Li Zhu Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhedong Zheng University of Macau

Recent advances in generative AI have significantly enhanced the realism of multimodal media manipulation, thereby posing substantial challenges to manipulation detection. Existing manipulation detection and grounding approaches predominantly focus on manipulation type classification under result-oriented supervision, which not only lacks interpretability but also tends to overfit superficial artifacts. In this paper, we argue that generalizable detection requires incorporating explicit forensic reasoning, rather than merely classifying a limited set of manipulation types, which fails to generalize to unseen manipulation patterns. To this end, we propose REFORM, a reasoning-driven framework that shifts learning from outcome fitting to process modeling. REFORM adopts a three-stage curriculum that first induces forensic rationales, then aligns reasoning with final judgments, and finally refines logical consistency via reinforcement learning. To support this paradigm, we introduce ROM, a large-scale dataset with rich reasoning annotations. Extensive experiments show that REFORM establishes new state-of-the-art performance with superior generalization, achieving 81.52% ACC on ROM, 76.65% ACC on DGM4, and 74.9 F1 on MMFakeBench.

From 1,000,000 Users to Every User: Scaling Up Personalized Preference for User-level Alignment

Jia-Nan Li, Jian Guan, Songhao Wu, Wei Wu Ant Research, Rui Yan Wuhan University

Large language models (LLMs) have traditionally been aligned through one-size-fits-all approaches that assume uniform human preferences, fundamentally overlooking the diversity in user values and needs. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework for scalable personalized alignment of LLMs. We establish a systematic preference space characterizing psychological and behavioral dimensions, alongside diverse persona representations for robust preference inference in real-world scenarios. Building upon this foundation, we introduce AlignX, a large-scale dataset of over 1.3 million personalized preference examples, and develop two complementary alignment approaches: in-context alignment directly conditioning on persona representations and preference-bridged alignment modeling intermediate preference distributions. Extensive experiments demonstrate substantial improvements over existing methods, with an average 17.06% accuracy gain across four benchmarks while exhibiting a strong adaptation capability to novel preferences, robustness to limited user data, and precise preference controllability. These results validate our approach toward user-adaptive AI systems.

Generating Attribution Reports for Manipulated Facial Images: A Dataset and Baseline

Jingchun Lian, Lingyu Liu Xi'an Jiaotong University, Yaxiong Wang Hefei University of Technology, Yujiao Wu CSIRO, Lianwei Wu, Li Zhu Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhedong Zheng University of Macau

Existing facial forgery detection methods typically focus on binary classification or pixel-level localization, providing little semantic insight into the nature of the manipulation. To address this, we introduce Forgery Attribution Report Generation, a new multimodal task designed to provide post-hoc forensic evidence for manipulated images. This task jointly localizes forged regions (“Where“) and generates natural language explanations grounded in the editing process (“Why“). This dual-focus approach goes beyond traditional binary forensics, providing a comprehensive, interpretable understanding of the manipulation. To enable research in this domain, we present Multi-Modal Tamper Tracing (MMTT), a large-scale dataset of 152,217 samples. Each sample features a process-derived ground-truth mask and a human-authored textual description, ensuring high annotation precision and linguistic richness. We further propose ForgeryTalker, a unified end-to-end baseline that integrates vision and language via a shared encoder and dual decoders for mask and text generation. Experiments show that ForgeryTalker achieves competitive performance on both subtasks, i.e., 59.3 CIDEr and 73.67 IoU, establishing a strong baseline for explainable multimedia forensics. Our dataset and code are available at: https://github.com/NattyLianJc/Generating-Attribution-Reports.

Beyond Static Alignment: Adaptive Arbitration for Semantic Incongruence in Semi-Supervised Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

Huicong Li, Xiangbo Ji, Wei Wu Inner Mongolia University

Multimodal sentiment analysis is fundamentally challenged by semantic incongruence, where ambiguous visual signals often conflict with explicit textual cues. In semi-supervised scenarios, naively fusing such noisy features contaminates the joint representation, while conventional static alignment strategies fail to effectively arbitrate conflicting modalities in this task, leading to error reinforcement during self-training. To this end, we propose a novel Adaptive Arbitration for Semantic Incongruence (A2SI) framework for semi-supervised multimodal sentiment analysis, which emphasizes stable cross-modal representations and reliable supervision. Specifically, we first constrain unreliable visual representations by leveraging the reliable textual modality as an anchor to align divergent embeddings and reduce representation noise. Based on this, we further consider the reliability of supervision signals and calibrate pseudo-labels by adaptively weighting evidentiary confidence from heterogeneous views. Finally, to prevent error accumulation caused by unreliable samples, we introduce a progressive arbitration mechanism that verifies pseudo-labeled data from dual perspectives, enabling the model to dynamically balance sample diversity and label purity throughout self-training. Extensive experiments on the MVSA-Single and MVSA-Multiple datasets demonstrate that A2SI consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods under label-limited settings.

LogicEval: A Systematic Framework for Evaluating Automated Repair Techniques for Logical Vulnerabilities in Real-World Software

Syed Md Mukit Rashid Pennsylvania State University, Abdullah Al Ishtiaq Pennsylvania State University, Kai Tu, Yilu Dong Pennsylvania State University, Tianwei Wu, Ali Ranjbar, Tianchang Yang Pennsylvania State University, Najrin Sultana Pennsylvania State University 等 10 位作者

Logical vulnerabilities in software stem from flaws in program logic rather than memory safety, which can lead to critical security failures. Although existing automated program-repair techniques primarily focus on repairing memory-corruption vulnerabilities, they struggle with logical vulnerabilities because of their limited semantic understanding of the vulnerable code and its expected behavior. On the other hand, recent successes of large language models (LLMs) in understanding and repairing code are promising. However, no framework currently exists to analyze the capabilities and limitations of such techniques for logical vulnerabilities. We aim to systematically evaluate both traditional and LLM-based repair approaches for addressing real-world logical vulnerabilities. To facilitate our assessment, we created the first-ever dataset, LogicDS, comprising 122 logical vulnerabilities that reflect tangible security impact. We also developed a systematic framework, LogicEval, to evaluate patches for logical vulnerabilities. Evaluations suggest that compilation and testing failures are primarily driven by prompt sensitivity, loss of code context, and difficulty in patch localization.

Incentivizing Parametric Knowledge via Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards for Cross-Cultural Entity Translation

Jiang Zhou, Xiaohu Zhao, Xinwei Wu, Tianyu Dong, Hao Wang, Yangyang Liu, Heng Liu, Linlong Xu 等 11 位作者

Cross-cultural entity translation remains challenging for large language models (LLMs) as literal or phonetic renderings are usually yielded instead of culturally appropriate translations in context. However, relevant knowledge may already be encoded in model parameters during large-scale pre-training. To incentivize the effective use of parametric knowledge, we propose EA-RLVR (Entity-Anchored Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards), a training framework that optimizes cross-cultural entity translation without relying on external knowledge bases. EA-RLVR anchors supervision on a verifiable, entity-level reward signal and incorporates lightweight structural gates to stabilize optimization. This design steers the model toward learning a robust reasoning process rather than merely imitating reference translations. We evaluate EA-RLVR on XC-Translate and observe consistent improvements in both entity translation accuracy and out-of-domain generalization. Specifically, training on merely 7k samples boosts Qwen3-14B’s entity translation accuracy from 23.66% to 31.87% on a 50k test set comprising entirely unseen entities. The learned entity translation ability also transfers to general translation, yielding +1.35 XCOMET on WMT24pp, which scales to +1.59 with extended optimization. Extensive analyses of pass@k dynamics and reward formulations attribute these gains to superior sampling efficiency and a stable optimization landscape.

From Insight to Action: A Novel Framework for Interpretability-Guided Data Selection in Large Language Models

Ling Shi, Xinwei Wu, Xiaohu Zhao, Hao Wang, Heng Liu, Yangyang Liu, Linlong Xu, Longyue Wang Alibaba Group 等 10 位作者

While mechanistic interpretability tools like Sparse Autoencoders (SAEs) can uncover meaningful features within Large Language Models (LLMs), a critical gap remains in transforming these insights into practical actions for model optimization. We bridge this gap with the hypothesis that data selection guided by a model’s internal task features is a effective training strategy. Inspired by this, we propose Interpretability-Guided Data Selection (IGDS), a framework that first identifies these causal task features through frequency recall and interventional filtering, then selects “Feature-Resonant Data” that maximally activates task features for fine-tuning. We validate IGDS on mathematical reasoning, summarization, and translation tasks within Gemma-2, LLaMA-3.1, and Qwen3 models. Our experiments demonstrate exceptional data efficiency: on the Math task, IGDS surpasses full-dataset fine-tuning by a remarkable 17.4% on Gemma-2-2B while using only 50% of the data, and outperforms established baselines focused on data quality and diversity. Analysis confirms a strong positive correlation between feature amplification and task performance improvement. IGDS thus provides a direct and effective framework to enhance LLMs by leveraging their internal mechanisms, validating our core hypothesis.

STRIDE-ED: A Strategy-Grounded Stepwise Reasoning Framework for Empathetic Dialogue Systems

Hongru Ji, Yuyin Fan Northwest Polytechnical University Xi'an, Meng Zhao, Xianghua Li, Lianwei Wu, Chao Gao

Empathetic dialogue requires not only recognizing a user’s emotional state but also making strategy-aware, context-sensitive decisions throughout response generation. However, the lack of a comprehensive empathy strategy framework, explicit task-aligned multi-stage reasoning, and high-quality strategy-aware data fundamentally limits existing approaches, preventing them from effectively modeling empathetic dialogue as a complex, multi-stage cognitive and decision-making process. To address these challenges, we propose STRIDE-ED, a STRategy-grounded, Interpretable, and DEep reasoning framework that models Empathetic Dialogue through structured, strategy-conditioned reasoning. To support effective learning, we develop a strategy-aware data refinement pipeline integrating LLM-based annotation, multi-model consistency-weighted evaluation, and dynamic sampling to construct high-quality training data aligned with empathetic strategies.Furthermore, we adopt a two-stage training paradigm that combines supervised fine-tuning with multi-objective reinforcement learning to better align model behaviors with target emotions, empathetic strategies, and response formats.Extensive experiments demonstrate that STRIDE-ED generalizes across diverse open-source LLMs and consistently outperforms existing methods on both automatic metrics and human evaluations.

Every Token Counts: Generalizing 16M Ultra-Long Context in Large Language Models

Xiang Hu, Zhanchao Zhou, Ruiqi Liang, Zehuan Li, Wei Wu Ant Research, Jianguo Li

This work explores efficient ultra-long context modeling. We posit that an effective solution requires three fundamental properties: sparsity, random-access flexibility, and length generalization. To achieve this, we leverage Hierarchical Sparse Attention (HSA), a novel attention mechanism that satisfies all three properties. We integrate HSA into the Transformer architecture to develop HSA-UltraLong, an 8B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model trained on over 8 trillion tokens. We rigorously evaluate the model across tasks with both in-domain and out-of-domain context lengths to validate its capabilities. Our model demonstrates comparable performance to full-attention baselines on in-domain sequence lengths. Crucially, it achieves over 90% accuracy on most in-context retrieval tasks with contexts up to 512 times the pre-training context length. This work reports our findings and remaining issues throughout the experiments, offering insights for future research in ultra-long context modeling.

M^2PO: Multi-Perspective Multi-Pair Preference Optimization for Machine Translation

Hao Wang, Linlong Xu, Heng Liu, Yangyang Liu, Xiaohu Zhao, Bo Zeng, Liangying Shao, Yichen Dong 等 14 位作者

Aligning Large Language Models (LLMs) to human preferences is pivotal for Machine Translation (MT), yet current approaches are often hindered by misleading reward signals. Our analysis reveals that prevailing Quality Estimation (QE) models exhibit a systematic blind spot towards partial errors—specifically partial hallucinations and omissions—often favoring superficially fluent but unfaithful translations. To address this, we propose M^2PO (Multi-Perspective Multi-Pair Preference Optimization), a data-centric framework for preference optimization in machine translation. First, to correct the bias towards fluency, M^2PO uses a multi-perspective alignment mechanism that decouples semantic fidelity from fluency, prioritizing faithfulness via a curriculum strategy. Second, with the bias corrected, partial errors fall between perfect and severely incorrect translations, making them inefficient to learn via standard best-versus-worst comparisons. We thus introduce a multi-pair objective that leverages the full candidate list to capture these fine-grained error signals. Experiments on WMT23, WMT24, and FLORES-200 show that M^2PO enables a 9B model to outperform leading open-source baselines and achieve parity with proprietary models like GPT-4o and Gemini-2.0-Flash, demonstrating significant potential for efficient, high-fidelity LLM-based translation.

LLaDA 1.5: Variance-Reduced Preference Optimization for Large Language Diffusion Models

Masked diffusion language models present a promising paradigm for language modeling, yet the systematic theoretical analysis and comprehensive empirical validation of their alignment on general tasks remain relatively underexplored. In this paper, we identify the primary challenge for this problem: the high variance in Evidence Lower Bound (ELBO)-based likelihood estimates required for preference optimization. To address this issue, we propose Variance-Reduced Preference Optimization (VRPO), a framework that formally analyzes the bias and variance of the preference optimization loss and gradient based on Direct Preference Optimization, showing both are governed by a score-estimator variance. Building on this foundation, we introduce multiple unbiased variance reduction strategies, including optimal budget allocation and antithetic sampling, to improve alignment performance. We demonstrate the effectiveness of VRPO by applying it to LLaDA, a large diffusion language model. The resulting model, LLaDA 1.5, consistently outperforms its SFT-only predecessor consistently across various general benchmarks, such as mathematics (GSM8K +4.7), coding (HumanEval +3.0, MBPP +1.8), and alignment (IFEval +4.0, Arena-Hard +4.3). Furthermore, LLaDA 1.5 demonstrates a highly competitive mathematical performance compared to other strong language MDMs and ARMs. Our model is available at https://huggingface.co/GSAI-ML/LLaDA-1.5.

From Form to Logic: Masked Reconstruction and Reasoning Distillation for Short Video Fake News Detection

Qingyan Wang, Lianwei Wu, Botao Wang, Wangkang, Yaxiong Wang Hefei University of Technology

The rapid growth of short video platforms has made multimodal fake news more prevalent. Existing detectors suffer from two major limitations: (I) global-alignment bias that overemphasizes holistic cross-modal matching and thus misses subtle, localized inconsistencies; and (II) LLM-based methods that leverage powerful generative reasoning to identify cognitive forgeries but inherently suffer from hallucinations and high inference latency. To overcome these limitations, we propose PCDD, a novel Perception-Cognition Dual-driven Detector that jointly observes the form and probes the logic for short video fake news detection. The perception stream exposes fine-grained cross-modal conflicts by amplifying localized inconsistencies into explicit discrepancies. The cognition stream transfers reasoning capabilities from LLMs to a lightweight student to mine cognitive forgeries, while reducing the risk of hallucinations and eliminating reliance on LLMs at inference. Experiments on real-world datasets show that PCDD consistently outperforms baselines, while improving interpretability and robustness in data scarcity scenarios. Our code is available at: https://github.com/SeinCore/PCDD.
