Robot-use Agents (RUAs) have shown promising zero-shot manipulation capabilities, but reliance on frontier, proprietary models limits research into further training. To democratize RUA research, we introduce uni-robot-agent, a unified harness for competitive open-weight robot use that supports further training. Without privileged inputs, an out-of-the-box Qwen3.8-Flash-Next achieves a RoboDojo Score of 31.39, surpassing the published GPT-6 Astra-RoboProbe result of 28.97 and many VLA/WAM baselines, and performs competitively on 19 real-world tasks. Our analysis across model generations, families, and sizes links effective robot use to four general capabilities, suggesting that future RUA training should develop them jointly.

Why Tabular Foundation Models Excel on Relational Data They Have Never Seen

Linjie Xu, Yiqun Hu, Jixiang He, David Wipf

Given a relational database (RDB) storing heterogeneous tabular information, how can we predict missing (or future) values in some target column of interest? As candidate targets are numerous in enterprise settings, it is preferable to avoid learning a new model from scratch each time there is a new prediction task. Frozen foundation models (FMs) based on in-context learning (ICL) and RDB-specific pre-training provide a viable solution, but the ideal design still remains largely unresolved. Perhaps unexpectedly, preliminary evidence has recently shown that existing single-table FMs (aka TFMs), when combined with suitable parameter-free relational encoders, can be quite competitive in practice despite zero exposure to RDB pre-training or relational data of any kind. In this work we first empirically confirm this phenomenon with a more diverse array of experiments. We then turn to our main contribution, namely, surfacing multiple complementary explanations for why TFMs behave so effectively. These explanations ultimately hinge on innate synergies whereby parameter-free encoders map relational effects to fixed-length embeddings that loosely mimic distributions for which TFMs were originally designed; in so doing, desirable single-table properties transfer to relational settings (e.g., convergent posterior predictive distributions). Collectively, our analysis forges new pathways for improving RDB FMs, particularly when we prioritize interpretability and inevitable integration within agentic systems.

Trustworthy Execution of Industrial Agents

Zhongjie Wang, Mingyi Liu, Xiang He, Xiao Wang, Shuang Yu, Kai Wang

Industrial agents increasingly modify persistent engineering objects rather than merely generate answers. Authentication and successful calls cannot establish whether intended changes occurred, evidence supports a conclusion, or historical results remain applicable. We present a framework for trustworthy industrial-agent execution within a single enterprise governance domain. Eight control domains assign responsibilities across authority, planning, composition, tool execution, actual effects, evidence, baseline and use governance, and recovery and evolution. A four-plane architecture and three control chains connect these responsibilities through typed objects and version-bound interfaces. The specification separates tool returns from actual engineering effects, evidence coverage from engineering judgment, and historical lifecycle state from current applicability. Multi-agent handoffs are an architectural extension examined through deterministic interface tests. Distinct prototypes examine selected mechanisms using conformance tests, ablations, uncertainty stress, CAD/CAE execution, and local persistence. An OpenFOAM fixture produces COMPLETE coverage with FAIL judgment; an expired-job case requires readmission despite completed computation. CAD and recovery counterexamples expose omitted mandatory checks, discarded negative facts, and inconsistent producer-consumer mappings. Targeted repairs support local regression conclusions. The reported 0/29 hazardous commits measure closed-set specification conformance, not a safety probability. We distinguish the complete framework, implemented paths, and empirical evidence, identifying check-inventory completeness and cross-module fact preservation as prerequisites for extending these results.

Testing Agentic Service Systems: An Agentic Living Lab Methodology Across the Physical-Digital Continuum

Zhongjie Wang, Xiang He, Xiao Wang, Mingyi Liu, Shuang Yu, Hanchuan Xu

Task success is insufficient for testing agents that act for principals, change persistent business state, and affect physical processes: a useful result may be unauthorized, leave obligations unresolved, or depend on the execution substrate. We propose an Agentic Living Lab methodology organized around three questions: what is the test unit, who and what participate, and under what reality is the test executed? The unit is a service episode containing delegated roles, obligations, world state, and evidence. The method separates agents under test from environment actors and distinguishes real humans, human traces, rule surrogates, and agent-based proxies. Realization Profiles, capability-declared Reality Substrate bindings, Grounding Profiles, and Semantic Delta disclosures make changes across software, enterprise systems, simulation, and physical settings explicit. A four-plane reference architecture separates experiment control, participants, world realization, and evidence evaluation, with cross-cutting authority and governance controls. Runtime semantics distinguish intent, normative admission, and factual reconciliation. Real stakeholder grounding, participant calibration or validation, and governed feedback are required for the Living Lab claim, but not synchronous human participation in every run. Released JSON Schemas, deterministic fixtures, and a limited reference runner make selected rules machine-checkable; they are not a complete platform or empirical validation. Constructed travel and industrial designs illustrate authorization and fulfillment failures, proxy sensitivity, and substrate changes. Agent quality, proxy validity, and cross-substrate effect stability remain empirical questions.

TinyJudge: Unverifiable Constraint Alignment via Lightweight Specialist Ensembles

Yirong Zeng, Yufei Liu Huawei Technologies Ltd. and Peking University, Xiao Ding, Yutai Hou Huawei Technologies Ltd., Yuxian Wang, Wu Ning Huawei Technologies Ltd., Haonan Song Huawei Technologies Ltd., Dandan Tu 等 12 位作者

Instruction Following (IF) is a core capability of LLMs, requiring strict adherence to diverse constraints, ranging from verifiable ones (e.g., output length) to unverifiable ones (e.g., tone). Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards has emerged as a paradigm for IF tasks, leveraging LLM-as-a-judge to assess unverifiable constraints. However, we empirically find that this approach remains a significant bottleneck, suffering from severe reward hacking and higher computational overhead. In this work, we first analyze the generalization capabilities of unverifiable constraints and discover that specific constraints exhibit distinct, high-generalization patterns. Motivated by this, we propose TinyJudge, a framework that employs an ensemble of specialized tiny language models (e.g., 0.6B) to provide rewards for soft constraints. By distilling expertise from frontier models into these tiny models, it achieves high-precision, lightweight evaluation. Extensive evaluations across five benchmarks demonstrate that TinyJudge outperforms the baselines by ~10% in average performance and 12% in reward precision. Crucially, it also achieves a 3× speedup in total training time. Our work provides a scalable and robust path for aligning LLMs with unverifiable human instructions.

CostBench: Evaluating Multi-Turn Cost-Optimal Planning and Adaptation in Dynamic Environments for LLM Tool-Use Agents

Jiayu Liu, Cheng Qian University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Zhaochen Su, Qing Zong, Shijue Huang The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Bingxiang He, Yi R. Fung

Current evaluations of Large Language Model (LLM) agents primarily emphasize task completion, often overlooking resource efficiency and adaptability. This neglects a crucial capability: agents’ ability to devise and adjust cost-optimal plans in response to changing environments. To bridge this gap, we introduce CostBench, a scalable, cost-centric benchmark designed to evaluate agents’ economic reasoning and replanning abilities. Situated in the travel-planning domain, CostBench comprises tasks solvable via multiple sequences of atomic and composite tools with diverse, customizable costs. It also supports four types of dynamic blocking events, such as tool failures and cost changes, to simulate real-world unpredictability and necessitate agents to adapt in real time. Evaluating leading open-sourced and proprietary models on CostBench reveals a substantial gap in cost-aware planning: agents frequently fail to identify cost-optimal solutions in static settings, with even GPT-5 achieving less than 75% exact match rate on the hardest tasks, and performance further drops significantly under dynamic conditions. By diagnosing these weaknesses, CostBench lays the groundwork for developing future agents that are both economically rational and robust.

Current Agents Fail to Leverage World Model as Tool for Foresight

Cheng Qian University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Emre Can Acikgoz, Bingxuan Li, Xiusi Chen University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Yuji Zhang University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Bingxiang He, Qinyu Luo Johns Hopkins University and Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Gokhan Tur 等 11 位作者

Agents built on vision-language models increasingly face tasks that demand anticipating future states rather than relying on short-horizon reasoning. Generative world models offer a promising remedy: agents could use them as external simulators to foresee outcomes before acting. This paper empirically examines whether current agents can leverage such world models as tools to enhance their cognition. Across diverse agentic and visual question answering tasks, we observe that some agents rarely invoke simulation (fewer than 1%), frequently misuse predicted rollouts (approximately 15%), and often exhibit inconsistent or even degraded performance (up to 5%) when simulation is available or enforced. Attribution analysis further indicates that the primary bottleneck lies in the agents’ capacity to decide when to simulate, how to interpret predicted outcomes, and how to integrate foresight into downstream reasoning. These findings underscore the need for mechanisms that foster calibrated, strategic interaction with world models, paving the way toward more reliable anticipatory cognition in future agent systems.
