Noncrossing is All You Need: Beyond Identical Delay Functions in Online Matching with Delays on General Metrics

Yossi Azar, Junhao Gan, Shahar Lewkowicz, Xiao Sun, Seeun William Umboh

原文摘要

Online optimization with delays has emerged as a powerful paradigm with numerous applica- tions, including matching, caching, server management, network design, and set cover. In most of these problems, competitive algorithms are known for arbitrary monotone delay functions, even when different requests are associated with different delay functions. The notable exception is online matching with delays, where all previously known algorithms achieving constant or polylogarithmic competitive ratios require the delay functions to be identical, either linear or concave, and known in advance. We study the online minimum-cost perfect matching with delays problem on general metrics. We introduce the broad class of noncrossing delay functions, which strictly generalizes the classic setting of identical concave delay functions while naturally modeling scenarios in which different requests may experience different delay costs. We present the first deterministic $O(1)$-competitive algorithm for the single-location online matching problem with noncrossing delay functions in the non-clairvoyant setting as well as a randomized $O(lognlogΔ+log^2Δ)$-competitive algorithm of an arbitrary metric space where $n$ is the number of points of the metric space and $Δ$ is its aspect ratio. Our result allows each request to have an arbitrary noncrossing delay function, thereby simultaneously removing the assumptions of identical delay functions, concavity, and clairvoyance that were required by all previous constant or polylogarithmic-competitive algorithms.

SomaAlign: Reliability-Aware Multimodal Representation Learning for Soft Robotic Grasping

Haoyuan Wang, Shuai Peng, Yongkai Liao, Yuxiao Sun, Wei Luo, Xinxing Chen, Jian Huang

原文摘要

Robust multimodal perception for soft robotic grasping is challenged by modality-dependent noise, semantic ambiguity, and limited coordinated multisensory data. We introduce Soma, a dataset containing 100 objects, 1,000 continuous grasping trajectories, and 74,914 multimodal samples grouped by software acquisition cycle, spanning remote RGB, hand RGB, depth, tactile, IMU, and structured text observations. We also collect Soma-Success, an independent grasp-outcome dataset with 1,000 trials (998 retained after quality control), to evaluate frozen-encoder transfer for post-hoc grasp outcome classification and early grasp success prediction. Built on Soma, SomaAlign learns multimodal representations in three stages: masked reconstruction estimates relative modality reliability; reliability-aware contrastive alignment uses pair-specific adaptive temperatures to adjust alignment sharpness; and conflict-aware semantic constraints improve intra-sample cross-modal consistency while preserving global feature geometry. SomaAlign achieves an average Recall@10 of 90.66% across 30 directed cross-modal retrieval tasks. The learned representations also support physical attribute recognition, multimodal question answering, cross-modal generation, and cross-dataset transfer to grasp outcome prediction. On Soma-Success, frozen SomaAlign encoders with lightweight probes achieve 94.59% post-hoc classification accuracy and 84.07% early prediction accuracy. Together, Soma, Soma-Success, and SomaAlign provide a data and representation-learning foundation for robust and transferable multimodal perception in soft robotic manipulation.

原文摘要

Today's multimodal assistants are typically prompted to interpret the visual evidence presented to them. To offload the cognitive burden of remembering across long horizons, wearable assistants should instead proactively acquire and maintain useful memory as the user's surroundings evolve. Doing so on the user's behalf requires identifying what matters, understanding the scene in real time, and initiating memory maintenance in the background while the user stays focused on their activities. We introduce ProactEgoMem, a benchmark that evaluates proactive memory in streaming egocentric video. Three tasks ground the evaluation in ambient environmental needs: Information Capture (IC) preserves transient yet dense visual information, State Tracking (ST) follows changing object states, and Location Tracking (LT) records object movements. The benchmark defines its protocol at two levels of proactiveness: the Notification Level asks for a single timely notification that satisfies the user's intent, while the deeper Intervention Level asks the agent to maintain memory on the user's behalf through an active start-to-stop tool lifecycle. Parallel ProactEgoMem-Daily and ProactEgoMem-Sci tracks contain 300/100 clips covering daily and scientific use cases, paired with 1000/500 questions in ProactEgoMem-QA, which measures the quality of the proactively acquired memory. Across proprietary, open-source, video-language, and streaming baselines, even the strongest models fail to capture memory both timely and accurately. ProactEgoMem provides a rigorous evaluation foundation for proactive multimodal assistance and for video agents that co-exist with their users.

IPS: In-Prompt Process Supervision for Short Video Content Moderation

Mingchao Liu, Yu Sun, Ruixiao Sun, Xin Dong, Xiang Shen, Hongwei Wang, Hongyu Xiong, Yang Song

原文摘要

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) are effective at capturing the semantics of short video content; however, they often fail to attend to the policy-specific details required for reliable content moderation. To address this limitation, we introduce IPS, a novel framework that integrates In-prompt Process Supervision into MLLMs by introducing sequential reasoning over ancillary questions during fine-tuning. IPS consistently outperforms baseline MLLMs on public and proprietary benchmarks. Moreover, replacing human-annotated ancillary labels with MLLM-generated ones results in only marginal performance degradation, demonstrating robustness to noisy supervision and strong scalability with model-generated annotations. These findings establish IPS as a scalable and effective solution for complex multimodal classification in large-scale industrial settings.

原文摘要

Multimodal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (MRAG) enhances reasoning capabilities by integrating external knowledge. However, existing benchmarks primarily focus on simple image-text interactions, overlooking complex visual formats like charts that are prevalent in real-world applications. In this work, we introduce a novel task, \textbf{Chart-based MRAG}, to address this limitation. To generate high-quality evaluation samples, we propose \textbf{CHARGE} (\textbf{CHAR}t-based document question-answering \textbf{GE}neration), a semi-automatic framework for generating evaluation samples through multi-modal keypoint extraction, knowledge graph construction, and qa pair synthesis.By combining CHARGE with expert validation, we construct \textbf{Chart-MRAG Bench}, a comprehensive benchmark for chart-based MRAG evaluation, featuring 4,738 question-answering pairs across 8 domains from real-world documents. Our experiments reveal three critical limitations in current approaches: (1) unified multimodal embedding retrieval methods struggles in chart-based scenarios, (2) even with ground-truth retrieval, state-of-the-art Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) achieve only 71.15% Correctness and 80.74% Coverage scores, and (3) Widely-used MLLMs demonstrate consistent text-over-visual modality bias. These findings highlight great challenges in processing information-dense visual formats. We will make our code and dataset publicly available.

原文摘要

Mental health disorders represent a burgeoning global public health challenge. While Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated potential in psychiatric assessment, their clinical utility is severely constrained by benchmarks that lack ecological validity and fine-grained diagnostic supervision. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textbf{MentalDx Bench}, the first benchmark dedicated to disorder-level psychiatric diagnosis within real-world clinical settings. Comprising 712 de-identified electronic health records annotated by board-certified psychiatrists under ICD-11 guidelines, the benchmark covers 76 disorders across 16 diagnostic categories. Evaluation of 18 LLMs reveals a critical \textit{paradigm misalignment}: strong performance at coarse diagnostic categorization contrasts with systematic failure at disorder-level diagnosis, underscoring a gap between pattern-based modeling and clinical hypothetico-deductive reasoning. In response, we propose \textbf{MentalSeek-Dx}, a medical-specialized LLM trained to internalize this clinical reasoning process through supervised trajectory construction and curriculum-based reinforcement learning. Experiments on MentalDx Bench demonstrate that MentalSeek-Dx achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance with only 14B parameters, establishing a clinically grounded framework for reliable psychiatric diagnosis. The dataset and code are available.

Inverting the Shield: Systematically Generating Safety Tests from Policy Specifications

Xiaoyue Lu, Xianglin Yang National University of Singapore, Haijun Liu, Jiahao Liu National University of Singapore, Kuntai Cai ByteDance Inc., Yan Xiao Sun Yat-Sen University, Jin Song Dong

原文摘要

The widespread integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) necessitates rigorous and systematic safety evaluation. Existing paradigms either rely on constructed benchmarks to assess safety from predefined perspectives, or employ dynamic red-teaming to probe potential vulnerabilities. While effective, these approaches face challenges, as they depend heavily on expert domain knowledge, offer limited systematic guarantees, and are vulnerable to rapid obsolescence. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel framework POLARIS that brings the rigor of specification-based software testing to AI safety. POLARIS first compiles unstructured natural-language policies into First-Order Logic (FOL) representations, establishing a traceable link between high-level rules and concrete test cases. This formalization enables the construction of a Semantic Policy Graph, where complex policy violation scenarios are encoded as traversable paths. By systematically exploring this graph, POLARIS uncovers compositional violation patterns, which are then instantiated into executable natural-language test queries, enabling coverage-driven and reproducible safety testing. Experiments demonstrate that POLARIS achieves higher policy coverage and attack success counts compared to established baselines. Crucially, by bridging formal methods and AI safety, POLARIS provides a principled, automated approach to ensuring LLMs adhere to safety-critical policies with verifiable traceability.

Incomplete In-context Learning

Wenqiang Wang, Wen Yujia, Yan Xiao Sun Yat-Sen University, Zhifeng Chen, Yangshijie Zhang Lanzhou University, Peng Chen, Mingbo Yang, Xiaochun Cao

原文摘要

Existing In-context Learning (ICL) typically assumes the retrieval dataset contains demonstrations for all output label spaces. However, in real-world scenarios, delays in dataset updates or incomplete data annotation may result in the retrieval dataset containing labeled demonstrations for only a subset of the output space. We refer to this phenomenon as an incomplete retrieval dataset and define the in-context learning under this condition as Incomplete In-context Learning (IICL). To address IICL, we propose Iterative Judgments and Integrated Prediction (IJIP), a framework with train-free and train-based variants. For classification, the iterative judgments stage of IJIP reformulates an (m)-class problem into (m) binary tasks, converting IICL into standard ICL. The integrated prediction stage of IJIP then refines results using both the input and initial predictions. We further extend IJIP to text regression and generation, and introduce lightweight variants that reduce computation and token costs. Across six LLMs, seven tasks, and eight datasets, IJIP achieves state-of-the-art results under two incompleteness settings and even outperforms standard ICL with complete labels. IJIP also supports a semi-supervised variant and can serve as a plug-and-play enhancement for existing ICL and zero-shot methods.
