Reinforcing End-to-End Autonomous Driving Safety via Negative-Aware Planning in a Unified World-Action Model

原文摘要

World-action models (WAMs) jointly model future traffic states and driving actions for end-to-end autonomous driving in intelligent transportation systems. However, their action learning remains dominated by expert-trajectory imitation, leaving unsafe alternatives close to expert trajectories insufficiently constrained. To improve WAM robustness in safety-critical scenarios, we propose NegWAM, a safety post-training framework for unified WAMs that learns explicit safety boundaries from near-expert failure trajectories. NegWAM constructs negative trajectories that are geometrically close to the expert trajectory yet carry safety risks, uses them as repulsive anchors to steer predictions away from dangerous behavior, and encodes them as scene-conditioned rider tokens to learn scene--trajectory compatibility. During training, NegWAM jointly optimizes the flow-matching and near-expert negative objectives, while the auxiliary rider branch is discarded at inference, incurring no additional overhead. On NAVSIM v2, NegWAM achieves 40.4 EPDMS on navhard, a 4.1% relative improvement over the strongest compared scorer-free WAM baseline, and achieves 93.3 EPDMS on navtest. These results demonstrate that NegWAM achieves strong performance in safety-critical scenarios while preserving routine-driving performance. Zero-shot closed-loop evaluation on HUGSIM further demonstrates cross-benchmark generalization. The code is available at https://github.com/Zizizi-hao/NegWAM.

PFM-HR: Pose Flow Matching for Humanoid Robots

原文摘要

Motion priors improve reinforcement learning for physics-based humanoid tracking, but temporal priors require ordered motion clips, while pose priors provide limited guidance for policy-induced pose transitions. We present Pose Flow Matching for Humanoid Robots (PFM-HR), a reusable flow matching prior trained directly on large scale unordered pose data. PFM-HR introduces the Pose Geometry Score (PGS), which quantifies how joint coordinate changes during rollouts align with the local geometry of pose variation captured by the prior. Using PGS to modulate the tracking reward guides policy exploration toward structured pose changes while keeping the prior frozen across tracking tasks. Experiments demonstrate that PFM-HR improves both single motion and general motion tracking, especially for highly dynamic motions.

原文摘要

Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is an effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke, yet access remains limited by the availability of neurointerventional expertise. Telerobotic and AI-assisted systems may help address this challenge, but it remains unclear how clinicians interact with different levels of autonomy and how autonomous navigation systems perform in realistic environments. This work introduces Copilot Assistance Modes (CAMs), a framework for clinician-AI collaboration in robotic endovascular navigation spanning the autonomy spectrum from manual operation to full autonomy. In the first in-vitro user study comparing clinician-AI collaboration strategies, 11 experts and two students evaluated six navigation modes in a patient-specific vascular phantom. Objective performance metrics were combined with subjective assessments, including workload and usability. Autonomous performance was additionally evaluated both in silico and in vitro to investigate sim-to-real transfer. Hands-on manual navigation achieved the strongest overall performance (100% success). While fully autonomous navigation achieved 81% success in simulation, performance dropped to 23% in vitro. In contrast, several clinician-AI shared-autonomy modes achieved success rates of 92-97%, approximately four times higher than full autonomy and comparable to direct robotic control (95%), demonstrating mitigation of sim-to-real domain shift through clinician-AI collaboration. Among the evaluated AI-driven approaches, user-directed task delegation and rotational shared control demonstrated the most favorable balance between performance and clinician acceptance. These findings suggest that effective clinician-AI collaboration and allocation of control authority may currently be more important for reliable robotic neurointerventional navigation than increasing autonomy alone.

Tune-Up Open-Weight CLIP: Optimization Framework for Self-Supervised Fine-tuning of CLIP

Anant Mehta, Xingyu Chen, Xiyuan Wei, Tianbao Yang

原文摘要

CLIP has become a cornerstone of multimodal representation learning, yet improving its performance typically requires a prohibitively costly process of training from scratch on billions of samples. We ask a different question: Can we improve the performance of open-weight CLIP models across various downstream tasks using only existing self-supervised datasets? Unlike supervised fine-tuning, which adapts a pretrained model to a single downstream task, our setting seeks to improve general performance across various tasks. However, as both our experiments and prior studies reveal, simply applying standard training protocols starting from an open-weight CLIP model often fails, leading to performance degradation. In this paper, we introduce TuneCLIP, a self-supervised fine-tuning framework that overcomes the performance degradation. TuneCLIP has two key components: (1) a warm-up stage of recovering optimization statistics to reduce cold-start bias, inspired by theoretical analysis, and (2) a fine-tuning stage of optimizing a new contrastive loss to mitigate the penalization on false negative pairs. Our extensive experiments show that TuneCLIP consistently improves performance across model architectures and scales. Notably, it elevates leading open-weight models like SigLIP (ViT-B/16), achieving gains of up to +2.5% on ImageNet and related out-of-distribution benchmarks, and +1.2% on the highly competitive DataComp benchmark, setting a new strong baseline for efficient post-pretraining adaptation. The code is available at https://github.com/Optimization-AI/TuneCLIP.

Many everyday robot manipulation skills are affordance-dependent, with success determined by whether the robot contacts the functional object region required by the subsequent action. Current simulation data generators obtain contacts from generic grasp estimators or per-object manual contact annotations, but generic estimators rank stable grasps without task semantics and often select contacts that are misaligned with the downstream action, while manual contact annotations must be rewritten for each new object and task. To solve these challenges, we introduce AffordSim, a scalable data generator and benchmark that integrates open-vocabulary 3D affordance prediction into simulation-based trajectory generation. Given a natural-language task description, AffordSim synthesizes a task-relevant scene, emits affordance queries, grounds them on object surfaces, samples region-conditioned grasps, and selects executable candidates with motion planning. It further randomizes object pose, texture, lighting, image noise, and cross-viewpoint backgrounds for sim-to-real transfer. We instantiate AffordSim as a 50-task benchmark across diverse manipulation skills, five robot embodiments, and 500+ rigid and articulated objects. AffordSim achieves 93% of the trajectory collection success rate of manual contact annotations on affordance-critical tasks and 89% on hard composite tasks. Vision-language-action policies trained on AffordSim data transfer zero-shot to a real Franka FR3, reaching 24% average success.

GRAFT: Geometry-Aware Residual Adaptation for Foundation Trackers

原文摘要

Humanoid behavior foundation models (BFMs) provide reusable whole-body motion priors: given a kinematic reference, they generate coordinated joint commands for motion replay, teleoperation, and VLA control. However, trained primarily on flat-ground motion, BFMs lack an explicit mechanism to adapt foot placement, swing clearance, and contact timing to local terrain. Many terrain-aware BFM approaches address this limitation by retraining or fine-tuning the tracker together with perception, incurring substantial data and computation costs while coupling ordinary tracking to the perception pathway. To bridge this gap, we propose GRAFT, a geometry-aware residual adaptation framework for frozen behavior trackers. GRAFT preserves the BFM parameters and motion-reference interface, while a lightweight adapter adds terrain-conditioned corrections only to lower-body execution targets. The adapter is trained with task and foot-geometry rewards, regularized to suppress unnecessary corrections on flat ground, and distilled from privileged terrain observations to onboard depth. Because the frozen BFM already provides whole-body reference tracking and nominal locomotion, GRAFT reduces terrain learning to a focused execution-adaptation problem. We instantiate the framework on four frozen trackers and evaluate stairs, gaps, and platforms in simulation. We further validate it through real-world deployment on a Unitree G1, where the adapted SONIC tracker traverses terrain with onboard depth and unmodified references.

BatonVoice: An Operationalist Framework for Enhancing Controllable Speech Synthesis with Linguistic Intelligence from LLMs

原文摘要

The rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) is reshaping multimodel models, with speech synthesis being a prominent application. However, existing approaches often underutilize the linguistic intelligence of these models, typically failing to leverage their powerful instruction-following capabilities. This limitation hinders the model’s ability to follow text instructions for controllable Text-to-Speech (TTS). To address this, we propose a new paradigm inspired by operationalism that decouples instruction understanding from speech generation. We introduce BatonVoice, a framework where an LLM acts as a conductor, understanding user instructions and generating a textual plan – explicit vocal features (e.g., pitch, energy). A separate TTS model, the orchestra, then generates the speech from these features. To realize this component, we develop BatonTTS, a TTS model trained specifically for this task. Our experiments demonstrate that BatonVoice achieves strong performance in controllable and emotional speech synthesis, outperforming strong open- and closed-source baselines. Notably, our approach enables remarkable zero-shot cross-lingual generalization, accurately applying feature control abilities to languages unseen during post-training. This demonstrates that objectifying speech into textual vocal features can more effectively unlock the linguistic intelligence of LLMs.
