Visual neural decoding seeks to reconstruct or infer perceived visual stimuli from brain activity patterns, providing critical insights into human cognition and enabling transformative applications in brain-computer interfaces and artificial intelligence. Current approaches, however, remain constrained by the scarcity of high-quality stimulus-brain response pairs and the inherent semantic mismatch between neural representations and visual content. Inspired by perceptual variability and co-adaptive strategy of the biological systems, we propose a novel self-supervised architecture, named NeuroBridge, which integrates Cognitive Prior Augmentation (CPA) with Shared Semantic Projector (SSP) to promote effective cross-modality alignment. Specifically, CPA simulates perceptual variability by applying asymmetric, modality-specific transformations to both EEG signals and images, enhancing semantic diversity. Unlike previous approaches, SSP establishes a bidirectional alignment process through a co-adaptive strategy, which mutually aligns features from two modalities into a shared semantic space for effective cross-modal learning. NeuroBridge surpasses previous state-of-the-art methods under both intra-subject and inter-subject settings. In the intra-subject scenario, it achieves the improvements of 12.3% in top-1 accuracy and 10.2% in top-5 accuracy, reaching 63.2% and 89.9% respectively on a 200-way zero-shot retrieval task. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness, robustness, and scalability of the proposed framework for neural visual decoding.

Recommender Systems Engineer Agents (RSE-Agents), which use LLM-based agents to autonomously improve recommendation algorithms, are emerging as a promising paradigm. However, their capabilities and limitations remain poorly understood due to the lack of a unified, standardized evaluation framework and systematic trajectory-level analysis. To address this gap, we introduce AutoRSE, an evaluation framework spanning six representative industrial-grade recommendation tasks, and conduct a large-scale empirical study of three frontier LLMs across three widely used agent harnesses. Our results show that RSE-Agents consistently enhance the performance of backbones on five of the six tasks, with an average relative improvement of 16.1%, indicating that they can already autonomously improve recommendation performance. However, trajectory-level analysis also reveals that current RSE-Agents function primarily as engineering optimizers rather than algorithmic improvers: their gains are largely driven by hyperparameter tuning, training strategies, and model ensembling, while genuine algorithmic innovations are rare. Since the largest gains in recommender systems often stem from algorithmic advances, this behavior underscores a fundamental limitation of current RSE-Agents. To probe this limitation, we perform idea-injection experiments and show that agents equipped with innovative ideas from frontier research or human experts achieve substantially larger improvements than those relying on self-generated ideas. These results suggest that idea generation is a central bottleneck of current RSE-Agents, highlights a key direction for the future recommendation system research. Our implementation is publicly available on GitHub: https://github.com/Ray-Tiann/AutoRSE.
Large-scale dexterous grasp datasets encode rich priors over hand-object interaction, but their use has largely been confined to grasp generation and pick-and-place manipulation. We study whether such data can instead support functional dexterity in articulated tool use, where a robot must acquire a tool, maintain contact, and operate its functional moving parts. We adapt a hierarchical imitation learning framework that combines high-level hand sub-goal prediction with a low-level goal-conditioned controller. We construct a 355k-trajectory grasp-pretraining dataset from large-scale dexterous grasp annotations and use it to pretrain the low-level controller. The controller is then fine-tuned on downstream task demonstrations. To evaluate this setting, we introduce DexCraft, a simulation benchmark with six articulated tool-use tasks requiring coordinated finger motion. Across simulation and real-world experiments, our approach outperforms end-to-end diffusion policy baselines and hierarchical policies trained from scratch. In the real world, it improves full-task success by 33.3 percentage points over DP3. These results show that grasp datasets can serve not only as resources for grasp synthesis, but also as scalable pretraining data for contact-rich dexterous manipulation. Frontier multimodal large language models (MLLMs) can control robots without robot-specific training, but how their capabilities compare and interact with post-trained vision-language-action (VLA) and world action model (WAM) policies across manipulation demands remains to be thoroughly evaluated. In this report, we evaluate GPT-6-Astra on EBench as the core of an agent that controls a robot through an agent harness under the same visual and proprioceptive observation protocol as post-trained policies. We study two agent configurations: direct control, in which the agent generates waypoint commands directly, and harness with policy, in which it can also invoke a post-trained VLA or WAM policy for action execution. Under direct control, the agent achieves competitive overall performance relative to post-trained policies. It leads on short-horizon tasks and exhibits the least performance variation across generalization dimensions, whereas it underperforms post-trained policies on long-horizon tasks, tabletop manipulation, and high-precision contact-rich tasks. In the harness with policy, invoking a post-trained VLA or WAM combines the complementary strengths of both components, raising overall task success to the level of the strongest compared post-trained policies while substantially reducing token cost. However, performance remains below the per-task upper bound of the standalone components due to suboptimal policy invocation, fixed-instruction execution without subgoals, and grasp disruption when the agent resumes control. Overall, our study characterizes the capability boundary of a frontier MLLM agent and suggests directions for improving future agent harness design. Visual questions are often ambiguous: the same image–question pair may admit multiple valid answers depending on which region is referenced. However, current Visual Question Answering (VQA) systems typically collapse this ambiguity, committing to a single interpretation during decoding and evaluation. In this work, we study visual question ambiguity from a grounded, region-centric perspective. We operationalize ambiguity as the existence of multiple distinct answer-supporting regions in an image, each independently yielding a valid answer. This formulation makes ambiguity observable without requiring exhaustive multi-answer annotations. Based on this definition, we conduct a systematic empirical study of state-of-the-art Visual Large Language Models (VLLMs). We find that, under default decoding, VLLMs consistently under-report ambiguity—even when multiple valid visual groundings are present. Importantly, probing model hidden states reveals that ambiguity-related signals are already encoded in their internal representations, despite not being reliably expressed in outputs. Finally, we show that selectively activating multi-focus answering based on these signals can recover additional valid answers while avoiding excessive hallucination. Together, our results suggest that ambiguity in VQA is not merely an annotation artifact or capability limitation, but a property that VLLMs internally recognize yet often fail to surface under standard decoding assumptions.

In real-world scenarios, multimodal information continuously evolves, with new entity and relation types emerging, necessitating timely updates to multimodal knowledge graphs for supporting downstream tasks. However, existing methods struggle to balance real-time adaptability and computational efficiency in continual learning scenarios. To this end, this paper proposes the Continual Multimodal Entity and Relation Joint Extraction (CMERJE) task and a Multimodal Prompt-based Boundary-enhanced Continual (MPBoCo) framework. Specifically, MPBoCo incrementally stores task-specific knowledge via learnable multimodal prompts, dynamically matches relevant prompts for each instance, and fuses them into a frozen backbone model for task-specific reasoning. Subsequently, the boundary-enhanced dual-branch module leverages the auxiliary branch to preserve local syntactic continuity and provide boundary guidance. Experimental results demonstrate that MPBoCo achieves superior performance in real-world scenarios, significantly outperforming baseline methods by 5.5% and 7.2% in 10-task and 5-task settings, respectively.

Accurate evaluation of conversational retrieval is pivotal for advancing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. However, existing conversational retrieval benchmarks suffer from costly, sparse human annotation or rigid, unnatural automated heuristics. To address these challenges, we introduce MTR-Suite, a unified framework for auditing, synthesizing, and benchmarking retrieval. It features: (1) MTR-Eval, an LLM-based auditor quantifying alignment gaps in previous benchmarks; (2) MTR-Pipeline, a multi-agent system using greedy traversal clustering to generate high-fidelity dialogues at 1/400th human cost; and (3) MTR-Bench, a rigorous general-domain benchmark. MTR-Bench mimics production-style challenges (hard topic switching, verbosity), offering superior discriminative power. We make our code and data publicly available to facilitate future research.

In multivariate long-term time series forecasting, it is widely believed that the effectiveness of self-attention arises from its attention matrix. We challenge this assumption with a counterintuitive finding: our experiments, conducted on three classic and three latest Transformer models, show that dot-product attention can be replaced by element-wise operations without token interaction, such as the addition and Hadamard product, while maintaining or even improving accuracy. This leads to our central hypothesis: the effectiveness of self-attention in this task stems not from the dynamic attention matrix, but from the multi-branch feature extraction inherent in the parallel projections to Query, Key, and Value matrices and their fusion. To validate this, we construct a simple multi-branch MLP that isolates the ‘multi-branch mapping with element-wise operation’ structure from the Transformer and show that it achieves competitive performance. Our results indicate that the source of performance in self-attention has been misattributed, suggesting that the true benefit lies in the architectural principle of multi-branch mapping and fusion, not in the attention matrix.
