Characterizing Robustness in Semantic Code Clone Detection

Zhiwei Xu, Weixian Deng, Xuyang Liu, Xiaolin Peng, Jiabao Gao, Tian Qiu, Hai Wan, Xibin Zhao

原文摘要

Semantic code clone detection seeks to recognize shared functionality across different implementations, making robustness to behavior-preserving changes central to its effectiveness. Prior studies have exposed failures under such changes, motivating a systematic examination of how sensitivity varies with the rewrites used for evaluation. We present Systematic Code Transformation (SCT), a framework organizing 51 operators by code level, target, and edit category, and evaluate 14 token, tree, graph, and prompt-based detectors on BigCloneBench, Google Code Jam, and OJClone. By comparing transformation groups, repeated application, and alternative constructions, we connect overall performance changes with specific rewriting conditions. Of 25 token, tree, and graph detector and dataset combinations starting above 90% F1, 21 lose at least 10 percentage points under the composition of all operators. These losses vary with transformation type and application intensity, but are not determined by edit counts or code growth alone. Even at matched locations and edit counts, alternative constructions can expose different errors despite similar aggregate losses. Further analysis distinguishes reduced score separability from changed fixed-threshold decisions with retained ranking ability, revealing different scope for threshold recovery. Overall, these findings show why benchmark effectiveness needs to extend to stable discrimination across equivalent implementations and how systematic transformation testing can assess that capability.

The Last Mile to the Real World: Agent-Native Primitives as Reusable Building Blocks for Solving Real-World Tasks

原文摘要

How can an agent handle a real-world task end to end? Frontier models with their own harnesses still fall short on real-world benchmarks: on Terminal-Bench 4.0, GPT-5.6 Sol with Codex resolves 37.3% of the tasks and Claude Opus 5 with Claude Code 51.8%. These tasks fail at the step from reaching a resource to applying it, which we call the last mile to the real world. Existing approaches put the resource within reach but leave the competence to apply it with the caller, so each harness rebuilds that competence. We introduce agent-native primitives, reusable units that equip a resource with a resident LLM that applies it in context and communicates with other primitives, and HEELO (Harness Engineering around Evolving Agent-Native Primitives for the Last Mile to Real-WOrld Tasks), a harness engineering framework that builds each task's harness from a library of such primitives. HEELO composes the primitives a task needs into a task-specific graph, verifies the result against evidence from the environment, revises the primitives a failure implicates, and admits new or improved primitives after validation. We instantiate HEELO with eight primitive families, each built for one kind of task, and evaluate them on more than twenty benchmarks. Dev-Primitives raise Terminal-Bench 4.0 resolution from 37.3% under Codex to 55.5% on the same backbone, Harness Primitives composed per task raise Terminal-Bench 2.0 Pass@1 from 60.0% for the seed harness to 72.2%, Tool Primitives raise ToolBench pass rate from 55.8% to 75.1%, and Navigation Primitives raise GAIA-Text-103 accuracy from 45.6% to 58.3%. On the 46 real-world tasks of our heelo.dev platform, Claude Opus 5.5 with Claude Code and GPT-6.1 Sol with Codex complete 9 each on their own and 39 and 35 when connected to HEELO through our MCP server, with 1.9$\times$ and 2.3$\times$ less time and 1.55$\times$ lower cost per completed task.

Physics-informed latent conditional flow matching for generative modeling of granular flows on inclined planes

Ziqi Han, Kuang Shi, Xuyang Li, Teng Man, Yimin Lu

原文摘要

The internal kinematic and mechanical states of granular flows are difficult to observe or measure, limiting the interpretation of internal particle interactions and their role in flow evolution. In this study, we propose a physics-informed latent conditional flow matching (PI-LCFM) framework for reconstructing complete multivariable flow sequences from partial boundary observations. A variational autoencoder and temporal flow-matching model learn a reusable latent prior over velocity, granular temperature, stress, and solid volume fraction. During inference, boundary-velocity or basal-stress observations and mass- and momentum-conservation constraints guide the latent trajectory through the decoded physical fields, without retraining either model. The results demonstrate that the model accurately reconstructs full spatiotemporal fields from observations containing only 0.3\% of the complete field information, extrapolates beyond the training ranges of inclination and particle number, and recovers key trends in runout scaling, energy evolution, and stress profiles. Compared with a frame-by-frame conditional flow-matching baseline, PI-LCFM reduces the mean velocity-component root-mean-square error by 45.2\%, while observation-guided reconstruction of 500-frame sequences achieves an approximately 44-fold speedup. Physics guidance further improves conservation consistency, supporting the broader potential of this framework for inferring hidden states in particulate systems, with potential applications envisioned in geophysical hazard assessment and industrial process monitoring.

ScienceCUA: Resource-to-Skill Construction and Execution-Guided Skill Evolution for Scientific Computer Use Agents

原文摘要

Computer-use agents for scientific software require application-specific expertise. Much of this expertise is documented in human-authored software manuals and web pages. However, turning these resources into executable, reusable skills remains challenging due to mismatches between documented and deployed software versions and differences in scope between documentation coverage and task requirements. We introduce ScienceCUA, a two-stage framework combining resource-to-skill construction with execution-guided skill evolution. First, ScienceCUA identifies tasks supported by the software from its documentation, infers operational trajectories, and generalizes them into reusable Skills. Command catalogs, syntax constraints, and shortcuts are organized separately as References for on-demand lookup. Then, ScienceCUA uses execution feedback to drive skill self-evolution by contrasting successful and failed trajectories for the same task, identifying deficiencies, revising existing skills or adding new ones, and updating the skill library only after repeated validation in real environments. To enable reliable evaluation without benchmark noise or task leakage, we introduce two improved benchmarks. ScienceBoard-Verified provides an audited and corrected basis for measuring task performance, while ScienceBoard-VE separates skill evolution from final testing through disjoint evolution and test tasks and further supports native-agent evaluation. Experiments show that the initial Skills and References improve average task success rate by up to 7.23 percentage points over the base model, while skill self-evolution increases the total gain over the baseline to as much as 17.12 percentage points. ScienceCUA turns software documentation into an evolving set of executable skills and queryable references, offering a practical way for general-purpose agents to use scientific software reliably and at scale.

SpecOPD: Branch-Parallel On-Policy Distillation for Speculative Decoding

原文摘要

Speculative decoding (SD) accelerates large language model inference by reducing the sequential cost of token-by-token generation. Advanced SD methods reduce proposal cost with parallel drafters that predict entire blocks in one forward pass, but overall speedup still depends on acceptance length. On-policy distillation (OPD) can push well-trained drafters beyond acceptance-length plateaus, yet conventional pipelines collect supervision through sequential draft-and-verify rollouts. Our key insight is that on-policy supervision need not inherit these dependencies: a draft block can be supervised using only its reference prefix and draft-sampled history. We propose SpecOPD, a branch-parallel OPD framework that parallelizes draft sampling and target supervision across independent branches drawn from the evolving drafter policy at reference anchors. We pack these branches into proposal trees to share target-prefix computation, using tree masks for full attention, branch-consistent indexer groups for sparse attention, and indexed state replay for linear attention to preserve each branch's history. We train the drafter with an E2E-TV surrogate that directly targets acceptance length. Our study spans 8B full-attention (GQA), 27B full-linear (GQA--GDN), and 125B sparse-linear (QSA--GDN) targets, three parallel draft architectures (DFlash, DSpark, and DFlash V2), and four task domains (dialogue, coding, mathematics, and agentic). SpecOPD achieves up to 41.45% higher mean acceptance length, $16.09\times$ supervised-token throughput over sequential-rollout OPD under native configurations, and up to $3.56\times$ generation speedup over autoregressive decoding.

TrustJev: Separating Policy Authority from Untrusted Evidence in LLM-Based Decisions

原文摘要

Decision models enable software to select from predefined actions using natural language inputs. However, the external evidence that supplies facts for these decisions may also contain instructions that attempt to override the application's policy. We propose TrustJev, a framework combining protected policy scoring with bounded evidence corrections. A single Transformer backbone computes policy scores and a correction budget from trusted policy and candidates, then bounds evidence corrections by that budget. Paired supervision encourages stable predictions under instruction insertions that preserve task facts and changed preferences when edits change the correct answer. Authority supervision accommodates evidence when the policy alone cannot determine the decision. We evaluate a 0.6B implementation against 14 baselines on three datasets covering authentication, instruction hierarchy, and executable authorization rules. TrustJev achieves the highest mean Balance, the harmonic mean of accuracy on non-attack and attack inputs, exceeding the strongest baseline on each by 0.57-1.05 percentage points. In the authorization benchmark, it correctly answers all 32 attacks per source in a fixed pool for 95.77% of sources, compared with 80.98% for the strongest comparator. TrustJev maintains comparable inference memory and median latency, with additional overhead primarily during training.
