Medical Imaging AI Competitions Lack Fairness

Benchmarking competitions are central to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging, defining performance standards and shaping methodological progress. However, it remains unclear whether these benchmarks provide data that are sufficiently representative, accessible, and reusable to support clinically meaningful AI. In this work, we assess fairness along two complementary dimensions: (1) whether challenge datasets capture the diversity of real-world clinical data, and (2) whether they are accessible and legally reusable in line with the FAIR principles. To address this question, we conducted a large-scale systematic study of 249 biomedical image analysis challenges comprising 458 tasks across 19 imaging modalities. Our findings reveal limited representation across challenge datasets with respect to geographic location, imaging modalities, and problem types, raising concerns about how well current benchmarks reflect real-world clinical diversity. Despite their widespread influence, challenge datasets were frequently constrained by restrictive or ambiguous access conditions, inconsistent or non-compliant licensing practices, and incomplete documentation, limiting reproducibility and long-term reuse. Together, these shortcomings expose foundational fairness limitations in our benchmarking ecosystem and highlight a disconnect between leaderboard success and clinical relevance.

PartiGen: Part-Aware Representations for Language-Conditioned Humanoid Motion Generation

Chuxuan Huang, Zhanxiang Cao, Tianyue Zhan, Haoyang Li, Yang Zhang, Liyun Yan, Chenlin Ming, Keqi Zhu 等 17 位作者

Translating language into humanoid motion requires coordinating body parts, determining motion duration, and producing references suitable for robot execution. We introduce PartiGen, a part-aware latent diffusion framework that incorporates anatomical structure into a shared whole-body motion representation. Part-specific attention processes anatomically masked frame features, and its outputs are fused to combine local limb information with whole-body context. Conditioned on text and motion history, the model generates motion primitives autoregressively. Forward-kinematics supervision encourages kinematic consistency, while a learned end-of-sequence predictor selects a frame-level endpoint after generation. On HumanML3D retargeted to the Unitree G1, PartiGen achieves a segment-level FID of 3.165, a 16.8% reduction over TextOp, and improves R@1 by 1.4 percentage points. In the duration study with 16-frame primitives, endpoint prediction reduces mean absolute duration error from 12.471 to 3.080 frames compared with a fixed-length cutoff. We further evaluate robot execution using a pretrained, frozen GRIT tracker: 409 of 500 generated references (81.8%) pass the posture-based stability screen in MuJoCo. Following simulation screening and manual selection, 26 of 27 attempted motions are judged successful on the real G1.

META-Robot: Self-Cognition and Capability Scaling in Agentic Robots

Xuanzhi Feng, Zeyu Liu, Weiheng Gao, Xinchen Li, Jiankun Tang, Fangqi Zhu, Quanxin Shou, Hao Chen 等 14 位作者

LLM-based robotic agent systems can generate programs for robot control, yet their generalization to new tasks often depends on elaborate scaffolding. Expanding their skill repertoires alone offers limited guidance on how to assess new capabilities or identify what remains beyond their reach. We introduce META-Robot, a framework that couples self cognition with capability scaling by expanding the criteria through which an agent evaluates and develops its skills. At its core, action-level predicates make execution outcomes explicit and available for LLM reasoning. The agent uses these assessments to identify its own limitations, extend relevant evaluation criteria, and guide the structured expansion of its skills. Proprioceptive feedback further grounds this process in the robot's physical state, enriching the evidence available for self-cognition. Experiments in simulation and on real robots demonstrate stronger overall task performance, generalization to new tasks, continued expansion of skills and evaluation criteria, and effective use of non-visual proprioceptive signals.

A 3D foundation model unifying CT interpretation and segmentation

Radiologists interpret computed tomography (CT) scans by jointly determining what a finding represents and where it lies in three-dimensional (3D) anatomy. However, CT models have treated CT interpretation and 3D segmentation as separate tasks, leaving textual findings spatially unverifiable and overlooking potential synergy between clinical understanding and spatial perception. Here we present HoloCT, a generalist 3D foundation model unifying CT interpretation and voxel-level segmentation by jointly modelling whole-volume context and fine-grained anatomical detail, providing 3D masks as evidence. We curated HoloDATA, comprising 195,921 CT scans from 73 public datasets and six clinical cohorts, with 6.2 million instruction dialogues and 2.8 million CT-mask pairs. Across 346 tasks spanning segmentation, lesion screening, visual question answering, and report generation on 61 internal and 12 external datasets, HoloCT outperformed specialist and foundation models. In multicentre validation across 11,455 clinical CT scans from five hospitals, HoloCT outperformed competing models in lesion segmentation and report generation by 18.2 and 15.3 points. It also achieved 85.1% mean accuracy in screening thyroid tumours and colon lesions, exceeding all four participating radiologists in a retrospective reader study. Further analyses revealed bidirectional semantic-spatial synergy: language-guided segmentation delineated unseen anatomical structures and lesions as well as diffuse free-text findings, outperforming the leading approach by 22.1 points, whereas prompting the model to generate corresponding 3D masks alongside its textual outputs significantly improved interpretation performance. HoloCT shows that clinical understanding and spatial perception can be learned together within a single foundation model and offers a path towards more accurate and reliable CT analysis.

Improved Bounds on Distance Preservers

Yanyu Chen, Yu Chen, Zihan Tan, Mingyang Yang

Given an undirected unweighted graph $G$ on $n$ vertices and a set $P$ of $p$ pairs of its vertices, a distance preserver is a sparse subgraph of $G$ that exactly preserves the shortest-path distances between all pairs in $P$. In this paper, we prove a new upper bound of $O(n^{8/9} p^{4/9})$ for distance preservers when $p\in [n^{1/2}, n]$. Our result improves the previous bound of $O\big(n^{2/3}p^{2/3}+np^{1/3}\big)$ by Bodwin and Vassilevska Williams and $O(\min\{n+n^{1/2}p,\,np^{1/2}\})$ by Coppersmith and Elkin, particularly in the regime $p\in [n^{7/10}, n]$, and narrows the gap toward the conjectured $O(n^{2/3}p^{2/3}+n)$ bound. Using the techniques developed for distance preservers, we are also able to obtain pairwise additive $+2$ spanners with $O(n+n^{9/10}p^{2/5})$ edges, pairwise additive $+4$ spanners with $O(n+n^{24/25}p^{8/25})$ edges, and new bounds for sourcewise spanners, improving upon previous results in certain parameter regimes.

DexHOT: Learning Hand-Object Configuration Transfer for Dexterous Manipulation

Zhewei Gui, Anthony Bolton, Jiyao Zhang, Zeyuan Chen, Qiyang Yan, Tianyu Wang, Hao Dong

Dexterous manipulation involves not only moving objects, but also arranging the hand around them to maintain useful contacts and enable subsequent actions. Yet many learning-based systems specify goals primarily through object poses or trajectories, leaving hand-object configurations to emerge implicitly. We introduce DexHOT, which formulates dexterous manipulation as hand-object configuration transfer: moving between feasible configurations that jointly specify hand articulation and object pose relative to the wrist. DexHOT learns a reusable relation-conditioned transfer primitive from synthetic feasible configuration pairs, without human reference motions, and composes long-horizon behaviors through closed-loop tracking of configuration subgoals. On DexHOTBench with 120 objects, a single policy achieves 80.5% transfer success on seen objects and 69.4% on unseen objects; on a real dexterous hand, it achieves 61.5% success over 200 real-robot transfers and 90% task success across six demonstration-guided tasks. These results show that explicit hand-object goals provide an expressive and composable interface for dexterous manipulation. More details and videos are available at https://dex-hot.github.io/.

Auto-Research Agent on MSA Organization to Improve Protein-Protein Complex Structure Prediction

Zilu Zhang, Jing Bao, Lifeng Qiao, Sheng Xu, Qiantai Feng, Siqi Sun, Yang Yang

Protein-complex structure prediction with AlphaFold 3 depends on MSA content, depth, and cross-chain pairing. Current pipelines apply uniform recipes, typically maximizing depth and pairing by species, yet even whether cross-chain pairing helps AF3 remains contested. We show that the value of both depth and pairing is strongly target-dependent, so no single recipe is optimal across interfaces. We introduce an autonomous agent that treats a frozen AF3 as a black-box experimental instrument. For each target, the agent formulates biological hypotheses, analyzes and reorganizes the MSA, and iteratively refines sequence selection and pairing using predictor label-free signals alone. On 1{,}015 protein--protein interfaces from three benchmarks released after AF3's training cutoff, the agent improves overall interface DockQ over AF3's default pipeline and fixed MSA recipes on every benchmark, while using on average 60\% fewer MSA sequences than the default. Gains are largest for inter-species heteromers, where species-based pairing is unreliable: mean DockQ increases from 0.465 to 0.612 on FoldBench and from 0.482 to 0.562 on HD439. The improvements arise from both sequence construction and pairing policy, including deliberate non-pairing. These results recast MSA design as a target-specific problem and show that an autonomous agent can adapt it at test time through biological reasoning and self-directed, confidence-guided experimentation.

RECEIPT: Measuring and Repairing the Return Assumption of LLM Agents in Web Service Operations

Boyang Yang, Ziyao Yang, Yu Zhang, Duo Chai, Xiaoming Chen, Haoye Tian

LLM agents operate Web infrastructure from the command line and rely on a return assumption, namely that each tool call returns within a bounded time and with its requested action finished. Many commands, however, ask a question before they act, and the agent's harness either closes the program's input or keeps it open as a terminal at which nobody types. With closed input, the program can return status 0 without the requested action. With open input, it waits until a time limit, and the agent pays in time and tokens. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to measure and repair the return assumption. We collect 91,469 production tool calls and 89,047 public agent trajectories, test how 8 widely used harnesses launch commands, and build Litmus, a catalog of 158 checked command-line invocations, and Tripwire, a benchmark of 25 task pairs that differ only in whether a question guards the requested action. We then propose RECEIPT, which keeps the input open, reads what each process waits for from system calls, and returns this state to an unmodified agent through a model-checked protocol. On Litmus, closed input causes 11.5% of tested invocations to return status 0 without performing the requested action, and 7 of 8 harnesses close input when no terminal is attached. An unanswered question at a plain terminal multiplies a task's token use by 2.9, and the input connection moves an LLM from 7th to 3rd place among 8. Across 5 LLMs, RECEIPT reduces false claims of success by 73.5% and completes all 25 guarded tasks on a second harness. An agent's reliability therefore depends on what its harness lets it observe as well as on its LLM. Agent builders should report what each tool call did, not only how it ended, and benchmark maintainers should fix and report the input connection before they rank LLMs.

3DCodeEdit: Benchmarking Instruction-Guided 3D Program Editing

Binjie Wang, Xinran Zhao, Shoubin Yu, Xiang Li, Silong Yong, Chenyang Yang, Tianyu Chen, Ruofei Du 等 11 位作者

Language models increasingly create 3D content through code, with practical workflows often relying on editing existing programs rather than regenerating them, for speed and precise control. Such edits require understanding what a program builds and foreseeing how a change reshapes it, yet prior benchmarks mostly evaluate generation or simple edits against a reference. In this paper, we introduce 3DCodeEdit, a benchmark of 2,592 instruction-guided editing tasks over 108 Blender programs that construct objects entirely in code. Its edits range from parameter to structural changes, style redesign, and scene composition, and are judged from renders against human-reviewed checklists. Across 17 models, the average success rate is only 37%, and even the strongest models complete fewer than 60% of structural and style edits. As models become more capable, their failures shift to geometric foresight, where the code runs but builds the wrong shape. We therefore study whether multi-turn feedback can compensate for this missing foresight. Feedback from a separate reviewer model that describes how the renders differ from the request helps most, more than maximum reasoning effort or an agent harness, and can let a 27B model surpass the single-shot rate of a 2.8T-parameter model.

VerifiedLab: Harnessing Knowns for Unknowns

Yu Yao, Jiayi Dong, Yang Yang, Shuiwang Ji, Ju Li

Across human history, knowledge has undergone several transitions, from orality to writing and then to digital archives. At each transition, humans established new conventions to preserve knowledge for the new era. Nowadays, as research agents are increasingly deployed for laboratory experiments, knowledge is crossing another boundary: from records written for humans to those for machines. In this work, we introduce VerifiedLab, a multi-agent harness framework for this human-to-machine transition of knowledge. VerifiedLab transforms research output from passive artifacts into active systems that accelerate downstream use, adoption and prediction of future trends. In VerifiedLab, a team of AI scientists with distinct roles reasons over records verified field by field: a principal investigator plans, a librarian computes the evidence directly from the records, specialists draft, and a gate and a critic check each claim against the measured reliability of its data before the harness decides whether to release or withhold it. We demonstrate the efficacy of VerifiedLab through extensive experiments on perovskite solar cells: VerifiedLab recovers known physical trends, anticipates devices reported a year later, and lets AI scientists inherit the literature together with a measure of how far it can be trusted. By scaling the inference-time verification compute, VerifiedLab introduces a new pathway for knowledge dissemination and machine harness for AI co-scientists.

Agent Planning Benchmark: A Diagnostic Framework for Planning Capabilities in LLM Agents

Haoyu Sun, Wenxuan Wang, Mingyang Song, Jujie He, Weinan Zhang, Yang Liu, Yang Yang, Yu Cheng

Planning is central to LLM agents: before acting, an agent must decompose goals, select tools, reason over constraints, and decide when a task is infeasible. Yet existing agent evaluations often report only end-to-end success, making it difficult to determine whether failures stem from planning or execution. We introduce Agent Planning Benchmark (APB), a planning-specific diagnostic benchmark with 4,209 multimodal cases across 22 domains and five settings, covering holistic planning, feedback-conditioned step-wise planning, and robustness under extraneous tools, broken tools, and unsolvable tasks. Across 12 MLLMs, APB reveals systematic weaknesses in long-horizon planning, tool-noise robustness, calibrated refusal, and inference-time refinement. We further validate APB on 200 ToolSandbox tasks and 200 $τ^2$-bench tasks, where APB-guided refinement consistently improves plan correctness, plan grade, and downstream execution metrics across three representative models. APB thus serves as an upstream diagnostic complement to execution benchmarks. The APB benchmark and code are available in \href{https://github.com/Mikivishy/AgentPlanningBenchmark}{this URL}.

CohortFlow: A Steerable Clinical Cohort Curation Agent with Localized Semantic Correction

Neil Chen, Adrian Serapio, Hanxue Gu, Evan Lee, Kang Wang, Yang Yang

Language model agents for clinical cohort curation should accommodate evolving eligibility criteria without repeatedly processing unchanged requirements. We introduce CohortFlow, a steerable agent that represents natural language corrections as localized updates to a structured cohort specification and reconciles them with a persistent execution graph. Explicitly recorded semantic dependencies enable affected computations to be selectively invalidated while preserving valid prior results. On 100 scenarios derived from clinical-trial eligibility criteria, comprising 126 correction turns, localized steering achieves 77.0% requirement micro-F1 versus 76.4% for full regeneration using the same 8B model, a small numerical advantage that is not statistically significant ($p=0.493$). It reduces mean correction latency by 64.8% after completion and 44.3% during execution, with 38.1% fewer model calls. In a separate proof-of-concept evaluation over MIMIC, all 13 cohort states execute successfully, while correction trajectories demonstrate selective preservation of unaffected computations and recomputation of changed or dependent nodes. Together, these results show that localized semantic steering can substantially reduce correction latency and model calls while maintaining strong requirement-level accuracy.

Reinforcement Learning Done Right for Explicit Confidence Targets

Zefeng He, Yichen He, Yuan Lin, Yang Yang, Yu Cheng

Large language models (LLMs) can produce plausible but incorrect answers when they are uncertain, which can mislead users and undermine model reliability. Training models to abstain with reinforcement learning is a natural approach, but most existing methods use a fixed error penalty and therefore cannot adapt their behavior to different confidence requirements at inference time. We study \emph{explicit confidence targets}, where a user specifies a target \(p\) in the prompt and the model directly chooses whether to answer or abstain, with the goal of achieving an accuracy of at least \(p\) among answered questions. However, learning to respond to different confidence targets with a single model has proven difficult, and prior attempts have failed to distinguish different targets. We show that this failure comes from two problems: the reward signal that distinguishes different values of $p$ is often lost during optimization, while the original error penalty grows without bound as $p$ approaches one. We propose RLEC (\textbf{R}einforcement \textbf{L}earning with \textbf{E}xplicit \textbf{C}onfidence Targets), which preserves the learning signal needed to distinguish confidence targets, introduces a stable reward family that keeps the desired answer condition unchanged, and uses reward scheduling to balance effective learning and training stability. Together, these designs enable the first successful training of a single LLM for explicit confidence target control. Extensive experiments across diverse benchmarks and model scales show that RLEC largely preserves general capabilities and achieves competitive calibration performance. RLEC also supports fine-grained target control without an external decision system or threshold calibration after training. By making explicit confidence targets part of the trained policy, RLEC opens a new and more direct path toward behavioral calibration.

Parity-equivariant prediction of conformer-resolved electronic circular dichroism spectra accelerates absolute configuration assignment

Yi Jiang, Letian Chen, Runhan Shi, Lea Bae, Zheng Ling, Dong Ha Kim, Tong Zhu, Yang Yang

Electronic circular dichroism (ECD) is a key experimental probe for assigning the absolute configuration of chiral molecules, but interpreting measured spectra often requires costly time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations. The few existing machine learning methods for ECD prediction are faster, but their accuracy still falls well short of that required for experimental applications. Here we introduce PhysECD, a parity-aware E(3)-equivariant framework that builds the spectrum from its underlying quantum-chemical quantities, ensuring correct chiroptical symmetry by construction. To improve generalization and support experimental applications, we construct SCECD, a conformer-resolved dataset of 578,104 computed spectra spanning diverse natural products with one to five stereocentres. PhysECD predicts ECD spectra from conformer geometries in milliseconds, achieving state-of-the-art accuracy on the CMCDS benchmark and SCECD. Validation against 77 experimental spectra further demonstrates that PhysECD can serve as a fast alternative to TDDFT for assigning the absolute configuration of complex chiral molecules.

MedAdaptAgent: An Automatic Harness for Adapting Medical Imaging Models to New Sites

Hanxue Gu, Zhonghao Liu, Xingrui Gu, Kang Wang, Yang Yang

Reusing pretrained medical-imaging models offers an alternative to training from scratch. A model trained for the same task may perform poorly at a new hospital because imaging protocols and preprocessing differ. Effective adaptation depends on the model architecture, domain shift, and available labels and compute. Adaptation can improve scores on a small labeled set yet reduce performance on unseen data. We present MedAdaptAgent, an automatic harness that turns a supplied model, target data, and a free-text request into a new-site adaptation workflow. Its LLM-driven Adaptation Planner uses model-site evidence to choose compatible experiments and revise subsequent adjustments. The harness requires evidence of improvement over the pretrained model, then delivers the selected model as a complete, runnable package. Evaluation spans 26 segmentation and classification transfers across architectures and compute settings, with segmentation annotation budgets ranging from zero-shot transfer to few-shot adaptation. With 20 local annotations, mean segmentation Dice rises from 0.483 to 0.774 across 10 transfers, a 60.1% relative gain, with no harmful replacements. Mean classification AUROC rises from 0.810 to 0.837 across 13 transfers, a 3.4% relative gain. Comparing adapted models with the pretrained model reduces harmful classification replacements by 30.8% versus selecting the highest-scoring model on the available labels, using identical candidates. Seven public-model deployments demonstrate adaptation and reproducible package delivery across contrast and modality shifts. A CT-to-MRI study extends the evaluation to four LLM planners, including two open-weight models. We release the code on GitHub.

Local Epistemic Uncertainty Guided Active Sampling for Plug-and-play Diffusive Image Restoration

Jiaqi Zhang, Zheng Pang, Rongrong Gao, Qiyuan Zhang, Yang Yang

Diffusion models have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in image restoration tasks. However, when guiding image reconstruction, existing Diffusion Model-based Image Restoration (DMIR) methods typically rely on fixed data constraints and uniform step sizes, thereby overlooking the dynamic nature of the generative process. Such rigid designs render the models vulnerable to spatially non-uniform degradations, thus resulting in structural distortions and loss of fine details. Meanwhile, uniform step sizes introduce computational redundancy, whereas naïve step reduction strategies tend to accumulate approximation errors. To address these limitations, we propose a Local Epistemic Uncertainty Guided Active Sampling framework (LEADer). In the spatial domain, LEADer leverages pixel-wise uncertainty to dynamically modulate the prior strength within the null space, which effectively balances detail preservation and artifact suppression. In the temporal domain, it quantifies sampling stability via the uncertainty trace to enable adaptive trajectory pruning, thereby accelerating convergence. Theoretical proofs demonstrate that our framework achieves strict data consistency, while the trajectory pruning strategy admits a deterministic error bound, thereby guaranteeing stable convergence under skip sampling. Notably, our plug-and-play method can be seamlessly integrated into various DMIR baselines. Extensive experiments show that LEADer improves the performance of multiple state-of-the-art DMIR methods, while significantly reducing sampling time with negligible memory overhead. Code is available at https://www.jiaqizhang-sengoku.com/Code/LEADer.

Detecting AI-Generated Content on Social Media with Multi-modal Language Models

Chenyang Yang, Shen Yan, Yibo Yang, Litao Hu, Yuchen Liu, Yuan Zeng, Hanchao Yu, Yinan Zhu 等 16 位作者

Generative AI has enabled the creation of photorealistic images and videos that are increasingly disseminated on social media, often used for spam, misinformation, manipulation, and fraud. Existing AI-generated content (AIGC) detection methods face challenges including poor generalization to new generation models, reliance on single modalities, and lack of interpretable explanations. We present our pipeline that mitigates these issues by continuously curating diverse multi-modal social media data and training a compact vision-language model for detection and explanation. Our model achieves state-of-the-art detection performance on public benchmarks and demonstrates robust detection and explanation capabilities on internal social media datasets across multiple platforms. We deployed our model for post recommendation on social media platforms and observed positive downstream impacts on user engagement, demonstrating that it is feasible to perform effective AIGC detection in dynamic, real-world social media environments.

Red Teaming Large Reasoning Models

Jiawei Chen, Yang Yang, Chao Yu Tsinghua University, Yu Tian, Zhi Cao, Xue Yang Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Linghao Li East China Normal University, Hang Su 等 9 位作者

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have emerged as a powerful advancement in multi-step reasoning tasks, offering enhanced transparency and logical consistency through explicit chains of thought (CoT). However, these models introduce novel safety and reliability risks, such as CoT-hijacking and prompt-induced inefficiencies, which are not fully captured by existing evaluation methods. To address this gap, we propose Rt-LRM, a unified benchmark designed to assess the trustworthiness of LRMs. Rt-LRM evaluates three core dimensions: truthfulness, safety and efficiency. Beyond metric-based evaluation, we further introduce the training paradigm as a key analytical perspective to investigate the systematic impact of different training strategies on model trustworthiness. We achieve this by designing a curated suite of 30 reasoning tasks from an observational standpoint. We conduct extensive experiments on 26 models and identify several valuable insights into the trustworthiness of LRMs. For example, LRMs generally face trustworthiness challenges and tend to be more fragile than Large Language Models (LLMs) when encountering reasoning-induced risks. These findings uncover previously underexplored vulnerabilities and highlight the need for more targeted evaluations. In addition, we release a scalable toolbox for standardized trustworthiness research to support future advancements in this important field.

QuantumQA: Enhancing Scientific Reasoning via Physics-Consistent Dataset and Verification-Aware Reinforcement Learning

Songxin Qu, Tai-Ping Sun, Yun-Jie Wang University of Science and Technology of China, Huan-Yu Liu, Cheng Xue, Xiao-Fan Xu, Han Fang University of Science and Technology of China, Yang Yang Anhui University 等 11 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) show strong capabilities in general reasoning but typically lack reliability in scientific domains like quantum mechanics, which demand strict adherence to physical constraints. This limitation arises from the scarcity of verifiable training resources and the inadequacy of coarse feedback signals in standard alignment paradigms. To address the data challenge, we introduce QuantumQA, a large-scale dataset constructed via a task-adaptive strategy and a hybrid verification protocol that combines deterministic solvers with semantic auditing to guarantee scientific rigor. Building on this foundation, we propose the verification-aware reward model (VRM) tailored for Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR), which employs an adaptive reward fusion (ARF) mechanism to dynamically integrate deterministic signals from a scientific execution suite (SES) with multidimensional semantic evaluations for precise supervision. Experimental results demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms baselines and general-purpose preference models. Notably, our optimized 8B model achieves performance competitive with proprietary models, validating that incorporating verifiable, rule-based feedback into the reinforcement learning loop offers a parameter-efficient alternative to pure scaling.

The path to fully autonomous web agents is currently hindered by a critical bottleneck: their limited ability to handle CAPTCHA. Existing agent benchmarks largely ignore this practical challenge, failing to evaluate an agent’s real-world capacity to solve CAPTCHA. To bridge this gap, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of real-world CAPTCHA distributions and introduce MirrorCAPTCHA, a benchmark annotated with Weighted Pass Rate and a newly proposed metric Completion Degree. MirrorCAPTCHA is designed to serve as a “mirror” that faithfully reflects the automation capabilities of agents in real scenarios. We filter 2095 websites from Common Crawl, identify the CAPTCHA deployed on these sites, and cluster them into 18 distinct categories using K-means algorithm. To ensure practicality, we extract a web subgraph from Common Crawl covering these websites and use random walks to simulate real-world CAPTCHA encounter frequencies, yielding a realistic measure of agents’ ability. Additionally, we develop a lightweight synthetic data pipeline to train Ovis2-Agent-CAPTCHA-8B, which significantly outperforms current state-of-the-art closed-source models on MirrorCAPTCHA, achieving a 9.4% higher average Weighted Pass Rate and a 2.13% higher average Completion Degree than the runner-up, Gemini-2.5-Pro.

While Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) have demonstrated remarkable proficiency in image captioning, existing research primarily focuses on real-world scenarios, leaving surreal, highly stylized, and semantically hybrid virtual-world scenarios significantly underexplored. In this work, we introduce Game Character Captioning, a novel task designed to evaluate LVLMs’ capability to perceive and describe game character from the virtual-world. To facilitate evaluation, we establish GC-Bench, a manually annotated benchmark, and propose Graph-F1 to effectively assess performance on this task. Our evaluation reveals that: (1) current state-of-the-art LVLMs, including closed-source giants such as Gemini 3 Pro and GPT-5.1, struggle to maintain the high performance seen in real-world scenarios; and (2) a notable gap exists between open-source and closed-source models. To bridge this gap, we construct GC-148K, a large-scale dataset generated via a specialized data pipeline, and develop the G-Cap series. Experiments demonstrate that G-Cap series rivals the performance of advanced closed-source models at a lower cost, offering an efficient solution for industrial-grade production environment.

Although LLM agents can leverage tools for complex tasks, they still need memory to maintain cross-turn consistency and accumulate reusable information in long-horizon interactions. However, retrieval-based external memory systems incur low online overhead but suffer from unstable accuracy due to limited query construction and candidate filtering. In contrast, many systems use repeated large-model calls for online memory operations, improving accuracy but accumulating latency over long interactions. We propose LightMem, a lightweight memory system for better agent memory driven by Small Language Models (SLMs). LightMem modularizes memory retrieval, writing, and long-term consolidation, and separates online processing from offline consolidation to enable efficient memory invocation under bounded compute. We organize memory into short-term memory (STM) for immediate conversational context, mid-term memory (MTM) for reusable interaction summaries, and long-term memory (LTM) for consolidated knowledge, and uses user identifiers to support independent retrieval and incremental maintenance in multi-user settings. Online, LightMem operates under a fixed retrieval budget and selects memories via a two-stage procedure: vector-based coarse retrieval followed by semantic consistency re-ranking. Offline, it abstracts reusable interaction evidence and incrementally integrates it into LTM. Experiments show consistent gains across model scales, with an average F1 improvement of about 2.5 over A-MEM on LoCoMo, while achieving higher efficiency and low median latency (83 ms for retrieval and 581 ms end-to-end).

Reasoning and planning critically rely on a predictive dynamics model. In symbolic domains such as mathematics and code, large language models (LLMs) internalize transition rules during pretraining, allowing reinforcement learning or test-time scaling to effectively elicit and generalize their reasoning ability. Embodied decision making is fundamentally different: agents must reason from sparse visual evidence under partial observability, while coping with environment-specific dynamics and affordances not captured by language priors. Here we propose IMPLEMENT, a model-based reasoning framework that enables frozen LLMs to perform imaginative planning. A lightweight world model converts raw pixels into object-centric symbolic states amenable to language-based reasoning, and predicts their evolution under hypothetical actions. To address partial observability, we perform Monte Carlo state prediction via temperature sampling, enabling decision evaluation over multiple plausible futures. To support adaptation to unseen environments, we integrate Meta In-Context Learning, conditioning the world model on interaction history to continuously refine its predictions. At inference time, the LLM and world model form a tight co-reasoning loop: the LLM proposes candidate actions, the world model simulates future trajectories, and the LLM refines its decisions, effectively inducing an online policy iteration scheme. Extensive experiments in ALFWorld demonstrate consistent advantages over finetuning-based and strong test-time scaling approaches, validating IMPLEMENT as an effective framework for grounding language agents in visual embodied environments.
