Unlimited OCR Works 2

原文摘要

Unlimited OCR ushers the era of long-horizon parsing, substantially mitigating the growth of working memory as document lengthens. However, as document length scales to hundreds of pages, the visual context grows substantially, sharply increasing the computational cost of each decoding step and limiting the scalability of ultra-long document parsing. Inspired by human book transcription via localized focus without re-scanning preceding pages, we introduce Unlimited OCR 2, a document parsing model that looks only at what it transcribes. Building on Unlimited OCR, we upgrade all the decoder attention modules to Sparse Reference Sliding Window Attention (SR-SWA), bounding active reference tokens to a fixed capacity and thus sustaining constant computational costs across arbitrarily long documents. By combining SR-SWA with Unlimited-Horizon Decoding Paradigm, Unlimited OCR 2 enables document parsing over virtually unlimited lengths without prohibitive memory overhead. At the hundred-page scale, Unlimited OCR 2 achieves 7.0$\times$ and 5.6$\times$ per-step speedups over Full Attention and R-SWA, respectively. Furthermore, it delivers state-of-the-art end-to-end performance on both MPDocBench and MarathonDocBench, our newly proposed benchmark targeting hundred-page document parsing. Ultimately, the capacity for uninterrupted, one-shot document parsing signifies a fundamental paradigm shift into the OCR 3.0 era.

Advisor, Co-pilot, or Guardian? AI Role Framing and Human Decision Behavior in Automated Vehicle Takeovers

Wei-Hsiang Lo, Jingyi Xie, Gaojian Huang

原文摘要

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has gradually been integrated into automated vehicles. However, how this technology could systematically support takeover transitions in SAE Level 3 automated vehicles remains unknown, even though this level may remain a major form of driving automation in the near future. To address this, we implemented the three AI roles proposed by the triadic Human-AI collaboration framework (Advisor, Co-pilot, and Guardian) as potential authority-ability configurations for AI agents within an automated system. We then examined their interactions with explanation type (why and action) and directional semantics (ipsilateral and contralateral) in an automated driving simulator study with 24 participants. Results showed that, across the three AI roles, Advisor had the shortest decision-making time, followed by Guardian and Co-pilot. Advisor and Guardian were associated with higher decision-making accuracy and higher satisfaction ratings than Co-pilot. Guardian was associated with the lowest workload, followed by Advisor and Co-pilot. The effect of explanation type on decision-making time depended on AI role. Action explanations were faster under Advisor, whereas why explanations were faster under Co-pilot. For directional semantics, ipsilateral semantics were associated with shorter decision-making time than contralateral semantics. Overall, these findings provide preliminary guidance for designing AI-role authority-ability configurations and their associated speech-based takeover messages.

CANS: Capability-Preserving Neuron Steering for Large Language Models

Yucheng Wu, Chengyi Xie, Chenpeng Wang, Liangming Pan

原文摘要

Activation steering offers training-free and dynamic control of target behaviors in large language models, but existing methods can impair general capabilities and require domain-specific intervention designs. We introduce Capability-Preserving Neuron Steering (CANS), a unified framework that balances target-behavior control with capability preservation. To make target-behavior improvement and general-capability preservation tractable, we introduce two proxies: log-probabilities of target tokens in model generated responses, and output-distribution KL divergence on general-purpose inputs. Combining the local approximation of the two proxies yields a closed-form solution, enabling lightweight steering without iterative model training or additional inference-time computation. The resulting neuron-wise scaling coefficients achieve effective steering while limiting general-capability loss. A shared data-construction and intervention procedure supports adaptation across domains using sampled responses with target-behavior filtering and target-span annotations. Across safety, toxicity, and hallucination control on Qwen and Llama models, CANS achieves comparable or better steering while better preserving MMLU, BBH, and IFEval performance than SFT, CAA, and neuron-level baselines. On Qwen3-4B, CANS reduces HarmBench attack success from $15.50\%$ to $1.75\%$ with a $1.11$-point decrease in average capability. These results support CANS as a practical approach to behavioral control across domains.

One-Shot Federated Model Editing for Device Dynamics at the Edge

原文摘要

Standard federated learning (FL) requires persistent device connectivity across multiple communication rounds, making it unsuitable for dynamic environments such as vehicular networks, where devices frequently join and leave. One-shot FL offers a promising alternative by completing training in a single communication round. However, one-shot FL suffers from model solidification and cannot readily adapt to subsequent client dynamics, including new client contributions and the withdrawal of previous contributions. We therefore consider exact model editing, which removes withdrawn contributions through unlearning or incorporates newly contributed ones through incremental learning without retraining from scratch. We identify that efficient editing fundamentally hinges on learning stability. To this end, we propose F-SOSA, the first stable one-shot FL algorithm that enables rapid and exact model editing. F-SOSA leverages sub-sampling of local models with carefully tuned rate for stable aggregation and performs curvature-aware model fusion to preserve utility. We prove that F-SOSA achieves vanishing training error and reasonably small generalization error bounds. Building on this stability, we further develop two single-round editing algorithms: F-SOSA-U for unlearning and F-SOSA-I for incremental learning. They ensure that the edited model, along with all intermediate algorithmic states, is statistically indistinguishable from retraining while incurring only an expected $O(ρ)$ fraction of its cost, where $ρ$ quantifies stability. Experiments demonstrate that our approach matches retraining performance while reducing cumulative time and communication overhead by at least 36% and 22%, respectively, under realistic urban mobility simulations.

WADBERT: Dual-Channel Web Attack Detection via Permutation-Invariant Parameter Modeling

Kangqiang Luo, Yi Xie, Shiqian Zhao, Jing Pan

原文摘要

Web attack detection is the first line of defense for securing web applications, designed to preemptively identify malicious activities. Deep learning-based approaches are increasingly popular for their advantages: automatically learning complex patterns and extracting semantic features from HTTP requests to achieve superior detection performance. However, existing methods are less effective at representing irregular HTTP requests and introduce unnecessary sensitivity to payload parameter order. To tackle this issue, in this paper, we propose WADBERT, a structure-aware dual-channel framework for web attack detection built on two complementary designs. First, we introduce \textit{Hybrid Granularity Embedding (HGE)}, which combines WordPiece embeddings with token-aligned character representations to capture fine-grained patterns in symbol-dense URLs and payload parameters. Second, we develop \textit{structure-aware feature extraction}, with separate branches for the sequential URL and the unordered collection of payload parameters. Each parameter is encoded independently, and position-free multi-head attention followed by mean pooling produces a payload representation invariant to parameter reordering. The URL and payload features are fused for request classification, while the learned parameter-level attention weights support inspection of potentially malicious parameters. Experiments on CSIC2010 and SR-BH2020 validate the effectiveness of our method: WADBERT achieves F1-scores of 99.64\% and 99.59\%, respectively, outperforming the evaluated state-of-the-art baselines.

原文摘要

Understanding and extracting structured insights from unstructured documents remains a foundational challenge in industrial NLP. While Large Language Models (LLMs) enable zero-shot extraction, traditional pipelines often fail to handle multi-document packets, complex reasoning, and strict compliance requirements. We present IDP (Intelligent Document Processing) Accelerator, a framework enabling agentic AI for end-to-end document intelligence with four key components: (1) DocSplit, a novel benchmark dataset and multimodal classifier using BIO tagging to segment complex document packets; (2) configurable Extraction Module leveraging multimodal LLMs to transform unstructured content into structured data; (3) Agentic Analytics Module, compliant with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) providing data access through secure, sandboxed code execution; and (4) Rule Validation Module replacing deterministic engines with LLM-driven logic for complex compliance checks. The interactive demonstration enables users to upload document packets, visualize classification results, and explore extracted data through an intuitive web interface. We demonstrate effectiveness across industries, highlighting a production deployment at a leading healthcare provider achieving 98% classification accuracy, 80% reduced processing latency, and 77% lower operational costs over legacy baselines. IDP Accelerator is open-sourced with a live demonstration available to the community.

原文摘要

Document understanding in real-world applications often requires processing heterogeneous, multi-page document packets containing multiple documents stitched together. Despite recent advances in visual document understanding, the fundamental task of document packet splitting, which involves separating a document packet into individual units, remains largely unaddressed. We present the first comprehensive benchmark dataset, \textit{DocSplit}, along with novel evaluation metrics for assessing the document packet splitting capabilities of large language models. \textit{DocSplit} comprises five datasets of varying complexity, covering diverse document types, layouts, and multimodal settings. We formalize the \textit{DocSplit} task, which requires models to identify document boundaries, classify document types, and maintain correct page ordering within a document packet. The benchmark addresses real-world challenges, including out-of-order pages, interleaved documents, and documents lacking clear demarcations. We conduct extensive experiments evaluating multimodal LLMs on our datasets, revealing significant performance gaps in current models’ ability to handle complex document splitting tasks. The \textit{DocSplit} benchmark datasets and proposed novel evaluation metrics provide a systematic framework for advancing document understanding capabilities essential for legal, financial, healthcare, and other document-intensive domains. We release the datasets and evaluation code to facilitate future research in document packet processing.
