PACT: Certifying What Is Written in Parallel Decoding of Diffusion Language Models

Yanchao Li, Yusu Zhang, Jiaqing Xie, Yi Ban, Ben Gao, Zhongyu Huang, Tianfan Fu, Yuqiang Li

原文摘要

Parallel decoding speeds up masked diffusion language models by writing several tokens per forward pass. Published commit rules choose these tokens by testing the predicted distributions. Under sampling the written tokens are drawn, and these tests do not see them. We find that answer quality follows the reliability of the tokens actually written. An answer's log probability splits into this reliability and the dependence within each step. We propose PACT, a training-free commit rule that draws the tokens first, certifies the set it will write and spaces the positions of each step apart. This certificate holds at every temperature, and we show that no rule with the same guarantee commits more positions. Experiments use four models of the LLaDA and Dream families and HumanEval, MBPP, GSM8K, MATH500 and IFEval benchmarks. PACT reaches the quality of published commit rules with fewer forward passes. Spacing removes positions from each step, yet it usually lowers the total cost because later steps then write more tokens. At the same speed, published decoders also write a word twice in a row far more often than PACT. These results suggest that commit rules should certify the tokens they write. Reaction precedents extend retrosynthetic prediction beyond training coverage

原文摘要

Reaction precedents guide retrosynthesis, but how far they can compensate for gaps in task-specific training coverage remains unclear. Using 2.71 million reactions, we restricted training and retrieval coverage by transformation or time, then expanded only the retrieval corpus with model parameters fixed. For transformations excluded from training, mean Top-1 accuracy increased from 13.0% to 58.0% on a historical test set and from 4.9% to 23.1% on a temporally held-out test set. For temporal coverage gaps, retrieval expansion enabled a model trained on records before 2017 to match or exceed a non-retrieval model trained on records before 2025 on both test sets. Without task-specific fine-tuning, precedents improved all 14 representative general-purpose models on both test sets and USPTO-50K; the strongest with precedents surpassed all eight representative specialized models. These findings show that inference-time reaction precedents can extend retrosynthetic prediction beyond task-specific training coverage without parameter updates.

TAU-R1: Visual Language Model for Traffic Anomaly Understanding

原文摘要

Traffic Anomaly Understanding (TAU) is important for traffic safety in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Recent vision-language models (VLMs) have shown strong capabilities in video understanding. However, progress on TAU remains limited due to the lack of benchmarks and task-specific methodologies. To address this limitation, we introduce Roundabout-TAU, a dataset constructed from real-world roundabout videos collected in collaboration with the City of Carmel, Indiana. The dataset contains 342 clips and is annotated with more than 2,000 question-answer pairs covering multiple aspects of traffic anomaly understanding. Building on this benchmark, we propose TAU-R1, a two-layer vision-language framework for TAU. The first layer is a lightweight anomaly classifier that performs coarse anomaly categorisation, while the second layer is a larger anomaly reasoner that generates detailed event summaries. To improve task-specific reasoning, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of decomposed-QA-enhanced supervised fine-tuning followed by TAU-GRPO, a GRPO-based post-training method with TAU-specific reward functions. Experimental results show that TAU-R1 achieves strong performance on both anomaly classification and reasoning tasks while maintaining deployment efficiency. The dataset and code are available at: https://github.com/siri-rouser/TAU-R1

WIST: Web-Grounded Iterative Self-Play Tree for Domain-Targeted Reasoning Improvement

原文摘要

Recent progress in reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) offers a practical path to self-improving language models, but existing methods face a key trade-off: endogenous self-play can drift over iterations, while corpus-grounded approaches rely on curated data environments. We present WIST, a Web-grounded Iterative Self-play Tree framework for domain-targeted reasoning improvement that learns directly from the open-web without requiring any pre-arranged domain corpus. WIST incrementally expands a domain tree to structure exploration and retrieves and cleans path-consistent web evidence to construct a controllable training environment. It then performs Challenger-Solver self-play with verifiable rewards, and feeds learnability signals back to update node posteriors and guide subsequent exploration through an adaptive curriculum. Across four backbones, WIST consistently improves over the base models and typically outperforms both purely endogenous self-evolution and corpus-grounded self-play baselines, with the Overall gains reaching +9.8 (Qwen3-4B-Base) and +9.7 (OctoThinker-8B-Hybrid-Base). WIST is also domain-steerable: improving Qwen3-8B-Base by +14.79 in medicine and Qwen3-4B-Base by +5.28 on PhyBench. Ablations further confirm the importance of WIST’s key components for stable open-web learning. Our Code is available at https://github.com/lfy-123/WIST.

MARS^2: Scaling Multi-Agent Tree Search via Reinforcement Learning for Code Generation

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) paradigms have demonstrated strong performance on reasoning-intensive tasks such as code generation. However, limited trajectory diversity often leads to diminishing returns, which constrains the achievable performance ceiling. Search-enhanced RL alleviates this issue by introducing structured exploration, which remains constrained by the single-agent policy priors. Meanwhile, leveraging multiple interacting policies can acquire more diverse exploratory signals, but existing approaches are typically decoupled from structured search. We propose MARS^2 (Multi-Agent Reinforced Tree-Search Scaling), a unified RL framework in which multiple independently-optimized agents collaborate within a shared tree-structured search environment. MARS^2 models the search tree as a learnable multi-agent interaction environment, enabling heterogeneous agents to collaboratively generate and refine candidate solutions within a shared search topology. To support effective learning, we introduce a path-level group advantage formulation based on tree-consistent reward shaping, which facilitates effective credit assignment across complex search trajectories. Experiments on code generation benchmarks show that MARS^2 consistently improves performance across diverse model combinations and training settings, demonstrating the effectiveness of coupling multi-agent collaboration with tree search for enhancing reinforcement learning.
