Look Beyond the Question: Preserve-Focus-Fuse for Whole-Slide Image Question Answering

A question about a whole-slide image rarely names every morphological finding needed to answer it. Question-guided patch selection can therefore overlook supporting morphology, while slide-level compression can dilute focal evidence. Inspired by how pathologists combine broad slide review, question-directed examination, and integration of their findings, we introduce BEYONDPATH, a Preserve-Focus-Fuse framework for whole-slide image question answering. Preserve learns a question-agnostic Morphology Bank through answer supervision across multiple questions about each training slide. Focus retrieves questionspecific evidence from all foreground patches, including regions outside the Bank. Fuse integrates the preserved morphology at the retrieved evidence positions through Morphology-on-Visual-Evidence Fusion, producing a fixed 96-token visual prefix. On WSI-Bench, BEYONDPATH achieves an Avg-9 of 0.769 and leads all eight reported report-generation metrics using the same checkpoint. It also achieves 0.639 zero-shot overall accuracy on SlideBench-BCNB. Controlled ablations show complementary benefits from morphology preservation and question-directed retrieval, and support cross-question supervision and fusion at the evidence positions. These results support looking beyond the question's explicit cues: preserving broader slide morphology while retaining the ability to seek evidence for each question.

MicroAgent: Context-Augmented Multi-Agent Framework for Automatic Microservice Decomposition

Zishan Su, Junjie Huang, Shiwen Shan, Xingyan Chen, Hui Zeng, Yuxin Su, Yanlin Wang, Michael R. Lyu

The adoption of Microservice Architecture (MSA) has revolutionized software engineering by enhancing scalability, agility, and maintainability over traditional monolithic applications. As more developers transition their legacy systems to microservice-based architectures, effective microservice decomposition-partitioning monolithic applications into highly cohesive services-becomes vital. However, this decomposition task presents significant challenges. Manual approaches are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Existing automated methods often fail to capture the necessary semantic insights from complex applications, while naive applications of Large Language Models tend to overlook crucial contextual information and design principles, leading to suboptimal results. To address these challenges, we propose MicroAgent, a Context-Augmented Multi-Agent Framework for Microservice Decomposition. Our framework divides the decomposition process into five distinct subtasks and assigns each to a specialized agent. To enhance the effectiveness of each agent, we provide tailored, multi-granularity context that keeps its analysis focused and mitigates information overload. Furthermore, to ensure the decomposition adheres to established design principles, we integrate analytical tools that guide the agents' decision-making. Experimental evaluations on 10 Java Web applications demonstrate that MicroAgent achieves an average decomposition accuracy of 89.2%, outperforming the state-of-the-art method by 24.6%. We also conduct a case study to highlight the practical benefits of our design.

Priority-Aware Scheduler for Serverless Functions Provision and Load Balancing

Cheryl Lee, Zishan Su, Zhouruixing Zhu, Tianyi Yang, Yuxin Su, Pinjia He, Michael R. Lyu

Serverless computing has emerged as a pivotal cloud deployment paradigm due to its efficient utilization of on-demand resources. However, the persistent cold start problem continues to hinder system performance. Current strategies often employ oversimplified preloading/unloading mechanisms that inadequately exploit invocation patterns, failing to optimize the critical trade-off between startup latency and resource efficiency. Furthermore, existing approaches disregard practical constraints of memory-limited multi-worker environments, exacerbating function eviction and load imbalance issues. To address these limitations, we present SPES-Ext, a rule-based priority-aware scheduler designed for memory-constrained distributed worker nodes. Our methodology stems from two key observations: (1) serverless systems exhibit concentrated invocation patterns enabling behavioral predictability, and (2) these patterns permit function categorization for granular instance management. This insight posits that characteristic-driven prioritization enables optimal scheduling rules, leading to our system design, which integrates three coordinated components: predictive function provisioning, eviction optimization, and dynamic load balancing. Experimental validation demonstrates the superiority of SPES-Ext over state-of-the-art solutions: 80% reduction in $75^{th}$-percentile cold starts, 83.92% decrease in memory waste, and 52.49% improvement in worker load variance.

From Laboratory to Real-World Applications: Benchmarking Agentic Code Reasoning at the Repository Level

Jia Li, Yuxin Su SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY, Michael R. Lyu

As large language models (LLMs) evolve into autonomous agents, evaluating repository-level reasoning, the ability to maintain logical consistency across massive, real-world, interdependent file systems, has become critical. Current benchmarks typically fluctuate between isolated code snippets and black-box evaluations. We present RepoReason, a white-box diagnostic benchmark centered on abductive assertion verification. To eliminate memorization while preserving authentic logical depth, we implement an execution-driven mutation framework that utilizes the environment as a semantic oracle to regenerate ground-truth states. Furthermore, we establish a fine-grained diagnostic system using dynamic program slicing, quantifying reasoning via three orthogonal metrics: ESV (reading load), MCL (simulation depth), and DFI (integration width). Comprehensive evaluations of frontier models (e.g., Claude-4.5-Sonnet, DeepSeek-v3.1-Terminus) reveal a prevalent aggregation deficit, where integration width serves as the primary cognitive bottleneck. Our findings provide granular white-box insights for optimizing the next generation of agentic software engineering.
