OpenFlyV2: An onboard vision-language-action model for aerial perception and navigation

Junli Liu, Zhongrui You, Chenhui Li, Zhen Li, Yuyang Tian, Qizhen Chen, Delin Qu, Haoming Song 等 12 位作者

Human cognition flexibly draws on a shared perceptual foundation to understand environments, attend to referenced entities, reason about spatial relationships, and act. Endowing aerial robots with an analogous functional organization remains challenging, as existing systems are often specialized for individual capabilities, dependent on offboard computation, or unable to sustain closed-loop operation on resource-constrained platforms. We present OpenFlyV2, a unified onboard vision-language-action architecture that uses a shared vision-language representation to support semantic understanding, language-grounded perception, spatial reasoning, and continuous aerial control within a single model. A compact action expert converts the shared multimodal context into short-horizon flight waypoints, while motion-aware temporal memory and action priors reduce the computational cost of closed-loop execution. We construct \dataset{}, a simulation-based dataset comprising approximately 70,000 navigation trajectories and 60,000 vision-language instruction--response pairs. OpenFlyV2 generates action chunks, each comprising 12 waypoints, entirely onboard at 10 Hz using an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX. It transfers zero-shot from simulation to physical quadrotor flight, achieving a 48\% navigation success rate across four real-world environments without real-world aerial training data. Extensive results demonstrate that broad vision-language competence and continuous closed-loop flight can coexist within a single model on a resource-constrained aerial platform. Code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/Ideal-ljl/AeroBrain.

PolMamba: Long-wave Infrared Polarimetric Remote Sensing Image Fusion for Vehicle Detection

Wenjuan Zhang, Xiangrui Peng, Zhen Li, Caimeng Yi, Xuesong Ma, Jianwei Wang, Jie Pan

Blurred vehicle contours and low contrast limit detection performance in infrared remote sensing imagery, while existing fusion methods may introduce polarization noise and fail to integrate complementary information effectively. To address these limitations, we propose a Mamba-based infrared polarimetric remote sensing image fusion model. Infrared polarization information reflects surface material properties and geometry, providing complementary information to infrared intensity. The proposed method first combines long-wave infrared total intensity S0 and the degree of linear polarization (DoLP), using a physics-inspired polarization-response proxy and spatial structural continuity to extract guidance features. It then employs bidirectional state space scanning along horizontal, vertical, and both diagonal orientations to enable cross-modal feature fusion across the entire image. Prior-guided multi-window structural similarity, reconstruction constraints, and a relative lower-bound loss for polarization saliency are jointly introduced to suppress noise while preserving global background structures and target polarization features. In addition, we construct AIR-LWIR-Pol, a dataset of 1,901 accurately registered image pairs acquired using an airborne division-of-aperture long-wave infrared polarimetric imaging system, and evaluate downstream vehicle detection using YOLO11. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the comparison methods on four fusion metrics, including entropy and structural similarity. Vehicle detection mAP50 and mAP50-95 reach 55.0% and 29.4%. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of combining physical priors with state space modeling for long-wave infrared polarization image fusion and support its use for target detection in complex remote sensing scenes.

Nonlinear Direct Feedback Alignment for Scalable Backpropagation-Free Training

Wu Lin, Yan Fan, Chenxiang Ma, Yinglan Feng, Jia Wang, Ka-Chun Wong, Qiuzhen Lin

Backpropagation (BP) remains the predominant algorithm for training deep neural networks, but it is biologically implausible and suffers from the backward locking problem, constraining parallelization across layers. Direct Feedback Alignment~(DFA), which propagates the global output error directly to each hidden layer via fixed feedback matrices, has emerged as a promising alternative for addressing these limitations. However, a significant performance gap persists between DFA and BP, which we attribute to the limited ability of fixed feedback matrices to capture the nonlinear transformation from hidden representations to the network output. To address this limitation, we propose Nonlinear Direct Feedback Alignment (NDFA), which constructs each hidden-layer feedback using a lightweight nonlinear surrogate subnetwork. To enhance the effectiveness of the feedback throughout training, we further propose a learning strategy to update the surrogate subnetwork, thereby better approximating the underlying nonlinear transformation. Extensive experiments across residual networks and vision transformers on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, SVHN, and ImageNet datasets demonstrate that NDFA consistently outperforms existing DFA-based methods and substantially narrows the performance gap to BP, while maintaining efficient parallel training. The code is available at https://github.com/YanFan321/NDFA.

Foreground-Aware Dataset Distillation via Dual-Path Patch Selection

Mingzhuo Li, Guang Li, Longzhen Li, Ren Togo, Keisuke Maeda, Takahiro Ogawa, Miki Haseyama

In this paper, we propose a foreground-aware dataset distillation method that performs content-adaptive dual-path patch selection. With the rising computational cost of training large-scale deep models, dataset distillation has emerged as a promising approach for constructing compact synthetic datasets that retain knowledge from large original datasets. Although optimization-based methods can achieve strong performance, they often incur considerable computational and memory costs and may produce synthetic images that generalize poorly across architectures. Recent non-optimization-based methods alleviate these limitations by constructing distilled images from real-image patches. However, their inflexible patch-construction strategies may either retain redundant background content or discard important foreground structures. To address this issue, we propose a foreground-aware dataset distillation framework with content-adaptive dual-path patch selection. We first use Grounded SAM2 to estimate the foreground occupancy of each image and derive category-specific routing thresholds from the corresponding class-wise distributions. Each image is routed to one of two complementary paths: the candidate-crop selection path for images with relatively sparse foregrounds, or the direct transformation path for images with relatively dominant foregrounds. This dual-path mechanism balances foreground concentration and preservation, reducing redundant background content while retaining the structural integrity of foreground objects at the dataset level. Experiments on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, ImageNette, and ImageWoof with two network architectures and three distillation budgets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the baseline method RDED in nearly all evaluated settings.

Efficient Proof Generation for Lean Statements with Multiple Candidate Answers

Pengzhen Lin, Ke Zhang, Maziar Raissi, Zhouxing Shi

In formal systems such as Lean 4, efficiently finding answers to mathematical problems and generating verifiable proofs is an important task in automated mathematical reasoning. In the traditional way where an upstream solver provides multiple candidate answers, the common workflow requires searching for proofs for each candidate separately, incurring redundant computational cost. To this end, we propose a joint proof framework that integrates candidate answer selection, answer supplementation, and formal proof generation into a unified reasoning process. At its core is a trained prover that selects given or proposes new answers and generates a proof for at least one answer in a single call. Joint proof can also reuse generated proofs to check for faithfulness errors. For problems with a unique answer, if two distinct answers both obtain verifiable proofs under the same formal statement, this confirms the statement does not faithfully preserve the original problem semantics. On MATH-500, AMC 2023, and AIME 2024/2025/2026, our framework achieves the same formal proof success rate as per-candidate proof generation with about one sixth of the token cost, and identifies at least 6.1% of the formalized statements as unfaithful without requiring additional judges. Our model and code are available at https://github.com/Linppz/Gobble-Prover.

Temp-R1: A Unified Autonomous Agent for Complex Temporal KGQA via Reverse Curriculum Reinforcement Learning

Zhaoyan Gong, Zhiqiang Liu, Songze Li, Xiaoke Guo, Yuanxiang Liu, Xinle Deng, Zhizhen Liu, Lei Liang 等 10 位作者

Temporal Knowledge Graph Question Answering (TKGQA) is inherently challenging, as it requires sophisticated reasoning over dynamic facts with multi-hop dependencies and complex temporal constraints. Existing methods rely on fixed workflows and expensive closed-source APIs, limiting flexibility and scalability. We propose Temp-R1, the first autonomous end-to-end agent for TKGQA trained through reinforcement learning. To address cognitive overload in single-action reasoning, we expand the action space with specialized internal actions alongside external action. To prevent shortcut learning on simple questions, we introduce reverse curriculum learning that trains on difficult questions first, forcing the development of sophisticated reasoning before transferring to easier cases. Our 8B-parameter Temp-R1 achieves state-of-the-art performance on MultiTQ and TimelineKGQA, improving 19.8% over strong baselines on complex questions. Our work establishes a new paradigm for autonomous temporal reasoning agents. The code is available at https://github.com/zjukg/Temp-R1.

MAS-Bench: A Unified Benchmark for Shortcut-Augmented Hybrid Mobile GUI Agents

Pengxiang Zhao, Guangyi Liu, Yaozhen Liang, Weiqing He, Zhengxi Lu, WenHao Wang, Yuehao Huang, Yuxiang Chai The Chinese University of Hong Kong 等 14 位作者

Shortcuts such as APIs and deep-links have emerged as efficient complements to flexible GUI operations, fostering a promising hybrid paradigm for MLLM-based mobile automation. However, systematic evaluation of GUI–shortcut hybrid agents remains largely underexplored. To bridge this gap, we introduce MAS-Bench, a benchmark that pioneers the evaluation of GUI-shortcut hybrid agents with a specific focus on the mobile domain. Beyond merely using predefined shortcuts, MAS-Bench assesses an agent’s capability to autonomously generate shortcuts by discovering and creating reusable, low-cost workflows. It features 139 complex tasks across 11 real-world applications, a knowledge base of 88 predefined shortcuts (APIs, deep-links, RPA scripts), and 9 evaluation metrics. Experiments demonstrate that hybrid agents achieve up to 68.3% success rate and 39% greater execution efficiency than GUI-only counterparts. Furthermore, our evaluation framework effectively reveals the quality gap between predefined and agent-generated shortcuts, validating its capability to assess shortcut generation methods. MAS-Bench addresses the lack of systematic benchmarks for GUI-shortcut hybrid mobile agents, providing a foundational platform for future advancements in creating more efficient and robust intelligent agents.

MeepleLM: A Virtual Playtester Simulating Diverse Subjective Experiences

Zizhen Li Nankai University, Chuanhao Li, Yibin Wang, Jianwen Sun Nankai University, Yukang Feng, Jiaxin Ai Wuhan University, Fanrui Zhang, Mingzhu Sun Nankai University 等 10 位作者

Recent advancements have expanded the role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in board games from playing agents to creative co-designers. However, a critical gap remains: current systems lack the capacity to offer constructive critique grounded in the emergent user experience. Bridging this gap is fundamental for harmonizing Human-AI collaboration, as it empowers designers to refine their creations via external perspectives while steering models away from biased or unpredictable outcomes. Automating this evaluation presents two challenges: inferring the latent dynamics connecting static rules to gameplay without an explicit engine, and modeling the subjective heterogeneity of diverse player groups. To address these, we curate a comprehensive dataset of 1,727 structurally corrected rulebooks and 150K reviews selected via rigorous quality scoring and facet-aware sampling. We augment this data with Mechanics-Dynamics-Aesthetics (MDA) reasoning to explicitly bridge the causal gap between written rules and player experience. We further distill distinct player personas and introduce MeepleLM, a specialized model that internalizes persona-specific reasoning patterns to accurately simulate the subjective feedback of diverse player archetypes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MeepleLM significantly outperforms latest commercial models (e.g., GPT-5.1, Gemini3-Pro) in community alignment and critique quality, achieving a 70% preference rate in user studies assessing practical utility. MeepleLM serves as a reliable virtual playtester that provides experience-grounded feedback, offering a practical step towards audience-aligned Human-AI collaboration.

Know the Known and the Unknown: Reasonable Answer Generation with Knowledge-Informed Citations

Yichi Zhang Zhejiang University, Zhuo Chen Zhejiang University, Lingbing Guo Nanjing University, Jun Xu, Mengshu Sun, Zhizhen Liu, Lei Liang, Wen Zhang Zhejiang University 等 9 位作者

Question answering (QA) with reference texts is a classic application scenario for large language models (LLMs), where high standards for the credibility and traceability of generated answers are crucial. Many existing approaches focus on generating multi-level citations linked to specific references within the answer, making it verifiable and trustworthy. However, they often overlook key challenges such as citation granularity, the awareness of unknown information, and the adoption of effective training strategies. In this paper, we introduce Knowledge-informed Citation (KFC), which addresses these issues through a novel data construction pipeline, a new benchmark, and an innovative training strategy. With approximately 42K samples spanning 19 distinct domains, KFC includes both traditional citations referencing known entity-level information and specialized citations referring to unknown knowledge in the given question. This structure provides a more granular approach to citations, guiding the model to recognize and explicitly indicate unknown information, thus enhancing the quality and credibility of the response. Additionally, we propose a self-correction paradigm, Self-KFC, designed to fine-tune LLMs by refining poorly cited answers into more accurate ones, making it particularly suitable for citation-dependent scenarios. We present comprehensive experimental results to demonstrate the effectiveness and generalization of Self-KFC on the KFC benchmark.

DeepScientist: Advancing Frontier-Pushing Scientific Findings Progressively

Yixuan Weng, Minjun Zhu, Qiujie Xie, Qiyao Sun, Zhen Lin, Sifan Liu, Yue Zhang

While previous AI Scientist systems can generate novel findings, they often lack the focus to produce scientifically valuable contributions that address pressing human-defined challenges. We introduce DeepScientist, a system designed to overcome this by conducting goal-oriented, fully autonomous scientific discovery over month-long timelines. It formalizes discovery as a Bayesian Optimization problem, operationalized through a hierarchical evaluation process consisting of "hypothesize, verify, and analyze". Leveraging a cumulative Findings Memory, this loop intelligently balances the exploration of novel hypotheses with exploitation, selectively promoting the most promising findings to higher-fidelity levels of validation. Consuming over 20,000 GPU hours, the system generated about 5,000 unique scientific ideas and experimentally validated approximately 1100 of them, ultimately surpassing human-designed state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods on three frontier AI tasks by 183.7\%, 1.9\%, and 7.9\%. This work provides the first large-scale evidence of an AI achieving discoveries that progressively surpass human SOTA on scientific tasks, producing valuable findings that genuinely push the frontier of scientific discovery. To facilitate further research into this process, we will open-source all experimental logs and system code at https://github.com/ResearAI/DeepScientist/.

AI Scientists Fail Without Strong Implementation Capability

Minjun Zhu, Qiujie Xie, Yixuan Weng, Jian Wu, Zhen Lin, Linyi Yang, Yue Zhang

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist represents a paradigm shift in scientific discovery, with large language models (LLMs) taking the lead as the primary executor in the entire scientific workflow from idea generation to experiment implementation. Recent AI Scientist studies demonstrate sufficient capabilities for independent scientific discovery, with the generated research reports gaining acceptance at the ICLR 2025 workshop and ACL 2025, arguing that a human-level AI Scientist, capable of uncovering phenomena previously unknown to humans, may be imminent. Despite this substantial progress, AI Scientist has yet to produce a groundbreaking achievement in the domain of computer science on par with automated scientific tools. Based on extensive quantitative evidence from existing benchmarks in complex engineering tasks and a systematic evaluation assess 28 research papers generated by five advanced AI Scientist systems, we argue that \textbf{the fundamental bottleneck for AI Scientists lies in their capability to execute the requisite verification procedures.} Current AI Scientist systems lack the execution capabilities needed to execute rigorous experiments and produce high-quality scientific papers. To better illustrate the root cause of this \textbf{implementation gap}, we provide an in-depth discussion on the fundamental limitations of AI Scientist. This position paper aims to call for the participants in the community to bridge the implementation gap.
