VagueBench: Benchmarking the Robustness of Embodied Agents on Ambient Context Illusions

原文摘要

Embodied agents are increasingly deployed in open-world environments, yet current robustness evaluations remain biased toward hazardous instructions and jailbreak vulnerabilities. A more fundamental issue is largely overlooked: agents are rarely tested under semantically sufficient but contextually minimal instructions (i.e., common in real-world human communication), where auxiliary contextual cues are absent. For the first, we identify a novel phenomenon termed Ambient Context Illusion, where agents fail to execute tasks correctly when non-essential contextual details are omitted, despite unchanged task semantics. To systematically study this, we establish VagueBench, a benchmark built upon the AI2-THOR interactive simulation environment for the evaluation of context dependency in embodied agents. We systematically consider key semantic components of instructions (entities, procedures, constraints, and prior knowledge) and derive a unified taxonomy with four categories and nine subtypes to reduce auxiliary information. VagueBench contains 1,303 instruction pairs across diverse indoor environments, constructed via a human-agent co-generation framework that integrates semantic redundancy estimation, taxonomy-guided transformation, and rigorous semantic-invariance verification. Through extensive evaluation on 6 state-of-the-art embodied agents, we observe significant degradation on VagueBench in both task performance and executability (relatively -19.65% in task success rate and relatively +54.10% in empty plan rate) revealing a strong reliance on auxiliary linguistic signals rather than core task semantics. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this phenomenon persists in real-world robotic systems, where it can lead to incorrect decisions and potential safety risks.

Bolek: A Multimodal Language Model for Molecular Reasoning

原文摘要

Molecular property models increasingly support high-stakes drug-discovery decisions, but their outputs are often difficult to audit: classical predictors return scores without rationale, while language models can produce fluent explanations weakly grounded in the input molecule. We introduce Bolek, a compact multimodal language model that grounds natural-language reasoning in molecular structure by injecting a Morgan fingerprint embedding into an instruction-tuned text decoder. Bolek is fine-tuned on molecular alignment tasks, including molecule description, RDKit descriptor prediction, and substructure detection, and on downstream reasoning over 15 TDC binary classification tasks using synthetic chains-of-thought anchored in concrete molecular features. Across these tasks, Bolek outperforms its Qwen3-4B-Instruct base on all endpoints in yes/no mode and on 13 of 15 in chain-of-thought mode, raising mean ROC/PR AUC from 0.55 to 0.76. It also outperforms TxGemma-9B-Chat on 13 of 15 binary classification tasks despite being less than half its size. Bolek's explanations are more grounded than those of the baseline LLMs: it cites numerical descriptors 10-100x more often per chain-of-thought, and the cited values agree strongly with RDKit for key descriptors such as TPSA, MolLogP, and MolWt (Spearman rho = 0.87-0.91). Generalisation extends beyond the training panel: on 15 unseen TDC classification endpoints, Bolek matches TxGemma on five, and it produces non-trivial rank correlations on three held-out regression endpoints despite never seeing downstream regression during training. These results suggest that targeted modality injection and reasoning supervision tied to verifiable molecular features can yield compact, auditable molecular reasoning models.

Sketch of a novel approach to a neural model

Gabriele Scheler

原文摘要

We present an account of neuroplasticity with respect to cell-internal processing pathways in relation to membrane and synaptic plasticity. We think traditional synapse-centric, weight-based models of memorization are not sufficient or adequate to capture the complexity of neuroplasticity. In these accounts, the model is a network of neurons connected by adaptive transmission links. The adaptation of the transmission links relies on weight changes according to use of the transmission link (short-term and long-term potentiation/depression). In contrast, we propose a paradigm switch from a synapse-centric model (each synapse learns independently, based on its history of use) to a neuron-centric model (each neuron uses signal selection for intracellular pathways to express plasticity at the membrane). A neural model consists of (a) expression of parameters at the membrane, in particular dendritic synapses or spines, and axonal boutons (b) internal parameters in the sub-membrane zone and the cytoplasm with its protein signaling network and (c) core parameters in the nucleus for genetic and epigenetic information. In a neuron-centric model, each node (=neuron) in the network has its own internal memory. Neural transmission and information storage are separated, not automatically combined by coupling strength. There is filtering and selection of signals for storage. Not every transmission event leaves a trace. This represents an important conceptual advance over synaptic weight models. We present the neuron as a self-programming device, rather than as passively determined by ongoing input. We believe a new approach to neural modeling is necessary, because the experimental evidence is not well captured by traditional synapse-centric models. Ultimately, we are interested in the possibilities of a flexible memory system that processes external signals according to its inherent structure.

The role of injected noise in diffusion model generalization

Vincent Emmerling, Felix Günther, David Kappel

原文摘要

Diffusion models trained on distinct datasets can produce highly similar samples when prompted with the same noise input, suggesting that they learn a generalized data distribution. We investigate the role of noise injected during the sampling process, and show that it plays an important role in making or breaking this strong generalization effect. Based on this finding we investigate the robustness of sample similarity to changes in the injected noise, and find that its impact is largest in the sampling regime where broad structure already exists but the precise identity of the sample is not yet determined.

ScienceCUA: Resource-to-Skill Construction and Execution-Guided Skill Evolution for Scientific Computer Use Agents

原文摘要

Computer-use agents for scientific software require application-specific expertise. Much of this expertise is documented in human-authored software manuals and web pages. However, turning these resources into executable, reusable skills remains challenging due to mismatches between documented and deployed software versions and differences in scope between documentation coverage and task requirements. We introduce ScienceCUA, a two-stage framework combining resource-to-skill construction with execution-guided skill evolution. First, ScienceCUA identifies tasks supported by the software from its documentation, infers operational trajectories, and generalizes them into reusable Skills. Command catalogs, syntax constraints, and shortcuts are organized separately as References for on-demand lookup. Then, ScienceCUA uses execution feedback to drive skill self-evolution by contrasting successful and failed trajectories for the same task, identifying deficiencies, revising existing skills or adding new ones, and updating the skill library only after repeated validation in real environments. To enable reliable evaluation without benchmark noise or task leakage, we introduce two improved benchmarks. ScienceBoard-Verified provides an audited and corrected basis for measuring task performance, while ScienceBoard-VE separates skill evolution from final testing through disjoint evolution and test tasks and further supports native-agent evaluation. Experiments show that the initial Skills and References improve average task success rate by up to 7.23 percentage points over the base model, while skill self-evolution increases the total gain over the baseline to as much as 17.12 percentage points. ScienceCUA turns software documentation into an evolving set of executable skills and queryable references, offering a practical way for general-purpose agents to use scientific software reliably and at scale.

Do Agents Still Follow the Rules? Benchmarking Rule Compliance under Agent Context Compaction

Yiwei Zha, Qingyu Meng, Herbert Bos, Min Chen

原文摘要

LLM agents compact long histories to fit their context windows, but the compacted context must still carry the operating rules that govern later actions. Prior work shows that violations rise after compaction, but measures compliance outside a complete agent harness and does not identify where each violation comes from. We introduce ARCBench(Agent Rule Compliance Benchmark), a configurable benchmark built on the open-source pi agent harness. Its tool-calling agent loop lets us measure rule compliance from actions taken during execution, bringing the evaluation closer to deployed agent workflows. Using ARCBench, we examine where violations after compaction come from, and how different compaction configurations and adversarial settings change their sources. We find that compaction rarely deletes the rule: most violations after compaction occur while the rule is still in the compacted history, with the agent treating a later request as permission, ignoring the rule, and proceeding anyway. Where violations come from depends on the configuration: how the rule is delivered decides whether the agent would break it even without compaction, while the compaction strategy and budget decide whether the rule survives. The strongest compactor-targeted attack more than doubles violations by corrupting the rule in the summary and changing how the agents behave, whereas the strongest defense restores the rule in most summary but still violates. Finally, retaining a rule does not guarantee compliance: compacted runs that retain the rule violate more than twice as often as runs with the full history.

CERBO: Certified Recourse at a Requested Rate for Gradient-Boosted Trees

原文摘要

Recourse-aware learning trains models so that people who receive an adverse decision can reverse it with an affordable change. For gradient-boosted decision trees (GBDTs), the existing method, RABIT, exposes a single recourse weight whose effect on the recourse rate is abrupt and data-dependent, and its training bound cannot certify recourse for any rejected individual. We present Certified Recourse Boosting (CERBO), which takes a requested recourse rate and returns a GBDT with certified actions: it tracks exact additive effort along tree paths, trains against committed boxes (a family of bounds that contains RABIT's and certifies a within-budget action for each training sample) and adjusts the weight after every tree until the certified rate meets the request. A calibration step guarantees the rate on new individuals, and the certifier runs on any tree ensemble, including XGBoost and LightGBM, in milliseconds per person without a solver. In RABIT's own experimental protocol, at equal accuracy, CERBO raises the recourse ratio from 0.90 to 0.99 on FICO and from 0.64 to 0.77 on Bail. Under additive costs on six data sets, it raises the area under the accuracy-recourse frontier in all 12 settings, and in simulated deployments it guarantees recourse to 70% of rejected individuals in 11 of 12 settings, against 2 for RABIT.

Can Coding Agents Sustain Continual Evolution without Forgetting?

Shangziqi Zhao, Yitong Zhang, Jia Li

原文摘要

Recently, harness self-evolution has emerged as an important paradigm for improving agent performance. Prior studies show that evolving the agent harness can effectively enhance agent capabilities without modifying the foundation model's parameters. We find that existing approaches largely study agent evolution on a single task. In practice, coding agents may need to handle multiple task types over time. Whether an agent harness can continuously evolve across multiple tasks without suffering from catastrophic forgetting remains an important open question. In this paper, we investigate this open question through a comprehensive empirical study of continual harness self-evolution. We organize three software engineering task datasets into six different evolution directions and apply two representative harness evolution methods to perform continual evolution along these directions. Our experimental results show that evolution on a subsequent dataset can substantially undermine the performance on previously seen datasets. For example, with DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731, Meta-Harness improves its performance on SWE-Bench to 94.0% after evolution. However, after further evolution on FeatureBench, its performance on SWE-Bench drops to 32.0% by the fifth round, corresponding to a 66% relative decrease. Finally, based on our experimental findings, we identify several insights, providing directions for the continual self-evolution of agent harnesses. Code is available at https://github.com/THU-Agent/continual-harness-evolution.

NIV: Neural Axis Variations for Variable Font Generation

Nadav Benedek, Ariel Shamir, Ohad Fried

原文摘要

Variable fonts enable continuous variation of glyph geometry along semantic design axes such as weight, width, slant, and optical size. However, constructing a variable font from a static font remains a labor-intensive process requiring expert typographic design and manual specification of glyph variation data. We introduce NIV (Neural Axis Variations), a method that automatically converts a static font into a fully functional variable font. Given glyph outlines and a set of desired design axes, NIV predicts per-point displacements. The model operates directly on vector glyph geometry and employs a novel Property Embedding mechanism that captures interactions between multiple axes, enabling consistent multi-axis variation within a unified framework. We train NIV on a newly constructed dataset derived from variable Google Fonts, comprising over one million variation tuples. The resulting model generalizes across unseen code points, unseen font styles, high-complexity CJK glyphs, and even out-of-distribution handwriting inputs. The generated outputs are standard variable font files supporting continuous interpolation via existing rendering engines. To facilitate research, we release the dataset, the complete training and inference implementation, and trained models at https://github.com/ndvbd/NIV. Beyond typography, our approach demonstrates how structured geometric objects with continuous parametric variation can be synthesized using neural deformations.

Reducing SNAP Payment Errors at Lower Cost With AI: A Simulation Study

Alex Chohlas-Wood

原文摘要

New federal legislation will require states with high payment error rates in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to pay a share of benefit costs, potentially costing some states over a billion dollars per year. These costs create substantial pressure to improve payment accuracy. One strategy to improve payment accuracy is preauthorization review, in which staff double-check applications and correct mistakes before benefits are issued. But limited staff capacity makes it important to target these reviews effectively. One leading targeting approach uses statistical risk models to prioritize cases likely to contain errors. Another novel approach uses AI to flag specific potential discrepancies for reviewers to check. For states under pressure to reduce error rates, it is unclear which approach-or combination of approaches-would reduce payment error rates most effectively. We compare these strategies through simulations using public SNAP quality control data. Under our main assumptions, risk-based review alone costs about seven times as much as combining AI flags with risk scores. This cost advantage persists across a wide range of plausible assumptions. Our findings suggest that AI-assisted preauthorization review could be a key tool to help states avoid substantial cost-sharing obligations.

原文摘要

Recent advances in autonomous driving (AD) have highlighted the potential of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) for enhanced environmental perception, particularly in challenging weather and lighting conditions. However, efficiently processing high-dimensional spectral data remains a significant challenge. This paper presents an empirical investigation of a Multi-Scale Attention Mechanism (MSAM) for enhanced spectral feature extraction through three parallel 1D convolutions with varying kernel sizes (1-11) and adaptive feature aggregation. By integrating MSAM into UNet's skip connections, we evaluate performance improvements in semantic segmentation across multiple HSI datasets for urban driving scenarios. Comprehensive ablation studies demonstrate that MSAM consistently outperforms baseline UNet-SC, achieving average improvements of 2.32% in mIoU and 2.88% in mF1, while maintaining competitive GPU performance against established attention mechanisms. Our findings reveal that optimal kernel combinations are dataset-specific, with configurations such as (1;5;11) and (3;7;11) demonstrating particularly strong performance. This empirical investigation advances understanding of HSI processing capabilities for AD applications and establishes a foundation for adaptive multi-scale spectral feature extraction in automotive deployment.

Written Once, Read Differently How Language Models Own Answers Steer Their Next Ones

Marcus Armstrong

原文摘要

When a language model answers a yes/no question, that answer changes how it answers a different question about the same entity. We study this \emph{self-commitment} in 22 open-weight models from four families (0.5B--72B parameters), fixing the model's first answer and measuring the shift in its second across 3,600 question pairs about 120 entities. Each answer writes a \emph{commitment direction} into the residual stream. The similarity of two questions' directions predicts their coupling on held-out entities ($ρ= 0.43$--$0.85$), and ablating a single direction shared across topics leaves at most 17\% of the effect in every model. How this direction is read is far less stable: the reading circuit spreads across more attention heads as models grow, instruction tuning makes more questions read it in the opposite sense, and in one model changing only the system prompt reverses the circuit's sign. Ablating the direction while sparing the attention sink removes most of the coupling at under 1.3\% perplexity cost in 18 of 19 instruction-tuned models, though it shifts standalone answers in two. Without the sink spared, the direction's alignment with the leading principal component of ordinary text predicts which models pay a high cost. Written once, the commitment is read differently across scale, training and prompt.

Concept-Grounded Reasoning with Prompt-Driven Localization for Interpretable Structured Report Generation

原文摘要

Medical imaging modalities such as ultrasound and X-ray are widely used in clinical practice, where diagnosis follows a structured, evidence-driven workflow aligned with standardized criteria. While multimodal large language models (MLLMs) show promise for automated medical report generation, most existing systems rely on end-to-end multimodal fusion without modeling clinically defined intermediate attributes, leading to limited grounding and interpretability. To address this issue, we propose CORAL (COncept-grounded ReAsoning with Localization), a multimodal framework that integrates spatial grounding and concept-level supervision into a unified reasoning process. CORAL employs a prompt-driven medical segmentation model to localize lesions and predicts multi-class clinical attributes through a Concept Bottleneck module. The resulting textual concept tokens are combined with mask-modulated visual features within an MLLM to enable structured report generation and diagnostic prediction. Experiments on BUS-CoT and IU X-ray datasets demonstrate consistent improvements in diagnostic accuracy, concept consistency, and report quality over strong general-purpose and medical MLLMs, indicating that concept-grounded reasoning better aligns generation with clinical decision processes.

原文摘要

Rapid advances in cowork agents are shifting human-AI collaboration toward real-world automation, delivering software, designs, and other artifacts. However, such productivity work demands both high-quality delivery on complex productivity tasks and continued monitoring and decision-making over long horizons, a combination that remains an open challenge. We introduce CoworkOS, a general-purpose harness for long-horizon work that separates task strategy from execution management: the model decides actions, delegation, and acceptance, while the runtime maintains state and feedback. Its three-layer architecture enables direct execution or delegation to Subagents, synchronously or asynchronously, under stable responsibilities. Through a shared application layer, humans and agents inspect and revise the same evolving documents, presentations, CAD models, and Blender scenes, so human-in-the-loop participation can enter both through conversation and through direct modification of the work itself. To sustain continuity across agents and sessions, CoworkOS further introduces hierarchical workspaces and persistent semantic memory, so working files, key decisions, and long-running Job logs remain shareable, reusable, and resumable after interruption. Across 12 benchmarks and 6 categories of real-world applications, CoworkOS proves highly competitive with frontier agent applications such as Codex and DeepSeek Harness. As a sustained-work case study, CoworkOS uses GLM-5.3 as its backbone to conduct RSI-driven automated post-training on Qwen3.6-35B-A3B. Over five rounds, the model's average score across eight benchmarks rose from 33.19 to 42.95 (+9.76). Looking ahead, we believe CoworkOS opens a meaningful path toward general cowork-agent intelligence.

Can Large Language Models Capture Video Game Engagement?

David Melhart, Matthew Barthet, Georgios N. Yannakakis

原文摘要

Can out-of-the-box pretrained Large Language Models (LLMs) detect human affect successfully when observing a video? To address this question, for the first time, we evaluate comprehensively the capacity of popular LLMs for successfully predicting continuous affect annotations of videos when prompted by a sequence of text and video frames in a multimodal fashion. In this paper, we test LLMs' ability to correctly label changes of in-game engagement in 80 minutes of annotated videogame footage from 20 first-person shooter games of the GameVibe corpus. We run over 4,800 experiments to investigate the impact of LLM architecture, model size, input modality, prompting strategy, and ground truth processing method on engagement prediction. Our findings suggest that while LLMs rightfully claim human-like performance across multiple domains and able to outperform traditional machine learning baselines, they generally fall behind continuous experience annotations provided by humans. We examine some of the underlying causes for a fluctuating performance across games, highlight the cases where LLMs exceed expectations, and draw a roadmap for the further exploration of automated emotion labelling via LLMs.

Aes3D: Aesthetic Assessment in 3D Gaussian Splatting

Chuanzhi Xu, Boyu Wei, Haoxian Zhou, Xuanhua Yin, Zihan Deng, Haodong Chen, Qiang Qu, Weidong Cai

原文摘要

As 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) gains attention in immersive media and digital content creation, assessing the aesthetics of 3D scenes becomes important in helping creators build more visually compelling 3D content. However, existing evaluation methods for 3D scenes primarily emphasize reconstruction fidelity and perceptual realism, largely overlooking higher-level aesthetic attributes such as composition, harmony, and visual appeal. This limitation comes from two key challenges: (1) the absence of general 3DGS datasets with aesthetic annotations, and (2) the intrinsic nature of 3DGS as a low-level primitive representation, which makes it difficult to capture high-level aesthetic features. To address these challenges, we propose Aes3D, the first systematic framework for assessing the aesthetics of 3D neural rendering scenes. Aes3D includes Aesthetic3D, the first dataset dedicated to 3D scene aesthetic assessment, built on our proposed annotation strategy for 3D scene aesthetics. In addition, we present Aes3DGSNet, a lightweight model that directly predicts scene-level aesthetic scores from 3DGS representations. Notably, our model operates solely on 3D Gaussian primitives, eliminating the need for rendering multi-view images and thus reducing computational cost and hardware requirements. Through aesthetics-supervised learning on multi-view 3DGS scene representations, Aes3DGSNet effectively captures high-level aesthetic cues and accurately regresses aesthetic scores. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves strong performance while maintaining a lightweight design, establishing a new benchmark for 3D scene aesthetic assessment.

原文摘要

This paper explores policy gradient algorithms for training stochastic policies to sample from structured discrete probability distributions under the Generative Flow Network (GFlowNet) framework. Building on extensive theoretical connections between GFlowNets and entropy-regularized reinforcement learning, we derive equivalents of standard policy gradient algorithms for training GFlowNets, as well as experimentally explore their various methodological aspects, including baseline training and advantage estimation. Most importantly, our work is the first to derive and successfully apply proximal policy optimization to GFlowNets, showing its improved convergence speed and data efficiency compared to standard GFlowNet training objectives on benchmarks ranging from synthetic energies to molecular graph generation.

EvoOntology: A Self-Evolving Ontology Layer for Data Agents

Meiduo Chong, Shaolei Zhang, Ju Fan, Xiaoyong Du

原文摘要

Data agents aim to fulfill natural-language instructions over heterogeneous data, including tables, files, and databases. However, data agents face a challenging agent-data gap: heterogeneous data resides outside the agent, while the agent can access it (e.g., column names and file paths) only through generic tools. Existing approaches either let agents directly explore raw data sources or inject manually constructed semantic layers into prompts. However, neither scales well to large heterogeneous data sources nor adapts to different agent behaviors. In this paper, we introduce EvoOntology, a self-evolving ontology layer for data agents. EvoOntology encapsulates the ontology as an MCP server comprising a schema layer, a content layer, and a tool layer, enabling agents to actively query and interact with the ontology at runtime. To this end, we introduce a builder agent for autonomous ontology construction and a self-evolution loop that continuously refines the ontology through attribution-guided typed edits that are accepted only after a backbone-conditional paired evaluation. Experiments on three well-adopted data-agent benchmarks with four LLM backbones demonstrate that EvoOntology consistently outperforms strong baselines and existing semantic-layer approaches, effectively bridging the agent-data gap and enabling more effective interaction with heterogeneous data. LaBraM at Scale: Scaling Data and Models for EEG Pretraining

原文摘要

LaBraM, an early EEG foundation model, demonstrated that large-scale EEG pretraining can yield strong representations for diverse downstream tasks. Building on this foundation, we expand pretraining data and model capacity while retaining its core encoder and objective. We train ten encoders with 5.8 million to 1.97 billion parameters on three EEG collections spanning 25,067 to 79,910 hours, adapting signal preparation and training to heterogeneous recordings. Across 23 tasks, Atom-L* reaches 59.05% mean balanced accuracy at its best evaluated full fine-tuning (Full-FT) checkpoint, 3.61 percentage points above the strongest baseline EEG foundation model. Quark-G leads linear probing (LP) at 54.33%, a 1.24-point margin. Both also lead average task rank. At the last evaluated checkpoints, larger encoders improve Full-FT more consistently than LP, and stronger LP does not guarantee stronger Full-FT. Preserving patch structure improves LP over average pooling. Data-fraction experiments suggest capacity-dependent saturation, while checkpoint trajectories show that downstream performance can decline as pretraining loss falls. Joint classification with a shared Qwen3 readout reaches 50.50% with Molecule-H and Qwen3-8B; increasing language-model size provides no consistent gain. These results demonstrate the value of scaling LaBraM and the importance of matching pretraining scale to downstream adaptation.

Beyond Surface Metrics: Multi-Condition Requirements in Enterprise Maintenance and AI Coding Benchmarks

Heeyong Eun

原文摘要

Repository-level AI coding benchmarks measure task success but do not directly capture the conditions required for software maintenance completion. We study multi-condition fulfillment, where a maintenance task must satisfy multiple operational conditions, sometimes with directional dependencies. Using a fixed 18-criterion taxonomy, we analyze 2,925 Apache Fineract issues and 944 tasks from SWE-bench Pro, SWE-PolyBench Java, and SWE-EVO. We examine condition breadth, corpus-level co-occurrence, and source-grounded directional requirement relationships. Among 1,177 benchmark task pairs matched on issue classification, modified-file count, and code churn, the mean fulfillment-set Jaccard distance is 0.8138, and 57.4% have disjoint condition sets. Condition count alone does not explain this contrast: SWE-bench Pro averages 2.47 conditions per task, versus 1.78 for Fineract. Temporal (B4) and numerical (B2) conditions have a phi coefficient of +0.430 in Fineract versus -0.013 in the pooled benchmark corpus. Among temporally tagged tasks, numerical conditions are also specified in 48.85% (254/520) of Fineract cases versus 5.81% (5/86) of benchmark cases. We document 16 directional relationships in Fineract requirements involving time, calculation, and state preservation, and inspect four benchmark cases to illustrate how relevant conditions appear in evaluation assertions. These examples do not quantify benchmark-wide oracle omissions. The results show that similar surface task profiles can mask substantially different fulfillment-condition sets. We recommend reporting condition breadth, co-occurrence, and directional relationships separately. The corpus comparisons are descriptive and may reflect domain differences; they do not establish causality or production failure rates.

Toward Knowledge-Centric AI: Discovering, Internalizing, and Using Explicit Knowledge Across Agents and Generations

Yisen Gao, Haoyu Huang, Zhongwei Xie, Yufei Li, Hong Ting Tsang, Boyi Zhang, Qiao Xiao, Tianshi Zheng 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Knowledge is how understanding accumulates across people and generations: durable records that outlive their producers and that others can check, combine, teach, and correct. AI agents are now built and run by many independent users and organizations, and each agent is upgraded, replaced, or retired within months. Yet what an agent learns stays trapped in model parameters, a transient context window, or a system-specific memory store that is appended to and retrieved from rather than processed. We argue that the next generation of AI should be knowledge-centric, built around an explicit, continuously evolving knowledge layer independent of any single agent. In this loop, agents discover knowledge from their environments and trajectories; the layer internalizes it by turning fragmented, heterogeneous records and experience into composable, revisable understanding; and agents across systems and generations use the result and return new outcomes for revision. While discovery and use have advanced rapidly with large language model agents, internalization remains the bottleneck. We argue that internalization should become a persistent object of training and maintenance-centered on condition-preserving conceptualization of events and deductive, inductive, and abductive reasoning across noisy, heterogeneous representations (text, tables, graphs, rules, and programs). To power this layer, we call for knowledge foundation models that provide shared neural capacity for knowledge computation, and outline a research agenda showing how an explicit knowledge layer delivers reuse, cost efficiency, auditability, and continuity across agent generations.

Visual-to-Executable Procedural Reconstruction of Buildings

Zichong Zhu, Zhihao Liu, Andrei Sharf, Zhanglin Cheng

原文摘要

Procedural modeling offers compact, editable, and reusable representations for architectural content, but building such models still depends heavily on manually authored grammars. We study image-based procedural building reconstruction from in-the-wild images, with the goal of recovering an executable procedural description that can be instantiated as an editable 3D building asset. Because a single image provides only partial and view-dependent evidence, we focus on recovering the dominant visible facade(s) and attach the recovered facade program to a simple mass model for building-level instantiation. Our method decomposes this task into two structured prediction stages. First, a Global Structure Layout Tree recovers facade-scale split-and-repeat organization through a fine-tuned layout model with render-guided visual-symbolic reflection. Second, a Component Parameterization schema maps representative facade tiles to structured procedural attributes for local architectural component synthesis. These two representations are then deterministically compiled into executable Computer Generated Architecture (CGA) programs, avoiding the brittleness of direct low-level program generation. Experiments show that the proposed framework handles both regular facades and challenging in-the-wild images, while maintaining high structural consistency, procedural executability, and fine-grained architectural detail. The recovered programs further enable controllable and reusable 3D building asset generation.

Transition-Matrix Regularization for Next Dialogue Act Prediction in Counselling Conversations

Eric Rudolph, Philipp Steigerwald, Jens Albrecht

原文摘要

This paper studies how empirical dialogue-flow statistics can be incorporated into Next Dialogue Act Prediction (NDAP). A KL regularization term is proposed that aligns predicted act distributions with corpus-derived transition patterns. Evaluated on a 60-class German counselling taxonomy using 5-fold cross-validation, this improves macro-F1 by 9--42% relative depending on encoder and substantially improves dialogue-flow alignment. Cross-dataset validation on HOPE suggests that improvements transfer across languages and counselling domains. In systematic ablations across pretrained encoders and architectures, the findings indicate that transition regularization provides consistent gains and disproportionately benefits weaker baseline models. The results suggest that lightweight discourse-flow priors complement pretrained encoders, especially in fine-grained, data-sparse dialogue tasks.

The Alignment Illusion: How BadReward Corrupts Text-to-Image Generation

Kaiwen Duan, Hongwei Yao, Yufei Chen, Ziyun Li, Tong Qiao, Zhan Qin, Cong Wang

原文摘要

Modern text-to-image generative models increasingly rely on Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) to align generated content with human preferences and safety standards. This post-training stage is critical for optimizing models toward high-fidelity and value-aligned behaviors using human preference data. However, while previous works have extensively investigated poisoning attacks against the supervised fine-tuning (SFT) stage of text-to-image training, the security vulnerabilities introduced by the RLHF process remain unexplored. In this paper, we present the first exploration into the feasibility of poisoning the RLHF process as a novel attack surface for compromising text-to-image models. We introduce BadReward, an indirect clean-label poisoning attack that manipulates reward signals to embed malicious behaviors. Our approach leverages a feature collision mechanism to produce poison preference image pairs that are visually benign, but aligned with a malicious target concept in the reward feature space. Our experiments demonstrate that this manipulation effectively corrupts the reward signal. Online RLHF further amplifies this corruption through its reward-model feedback loop, whereas offline preference optimization learns directly from the poisoned preferences. Finally, we demonstrate the real-world effectiveness of BadReward on modern text-to-image architectures, showing high attack success rates and visual stealthiness across different RLHF algorithms. Semih Vazgecen, Cristian Sestito, Spyros Stathopoulos, Themis Prodromakis

原文摘要

Face recognition systems have advanced significantly through deep learning techniques, delivering high performance and robustness in complex scenarios. However, these approaches incur substantial computational overhead, limiting their in situ applicability in resource-constrained platforms such as drones, where they can address challenges including non-frontal facial imagery. Memristor-based neuromorphic systems have emerged as a compelling approach for edge AI applications, combining biologically inspired processing with efficient and scalable computation. In this work, we propose a facial recognition framework that addresses non-frontal pose variations by integrating lightweight generative adversarial network (GAN)-based pose frontalisation with memristor-based neuromorphic recognition. The experimental results on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of combining adversarial learning with memristive technology, achieving up to 96% identification accuracy. The proposed approach alleviates the computational bottlenecks of conventional AI and offers a scalable, efficient solution for face recognition in dynamic real-world environments.

原文摘要

Despite recent advances in CUAs, their development remains constrained by the limited diversity, controllability, and reliability of interaction data. Moreover, conventional optimization pipelines lack iterative feedback, while existing recursive improvement approaches often rely on self-generated experiences, limiting ability expansion and yielding diminishing returns. To address these challenges, we introduce CUA-Master, a nested double-loop recursive improvement framework. At the system level, an outer world-data-model flywheel continuously incorporates open-world corpus and leverages evolving model weaknesses to guide subsequent data construction and optimization iterations. At the data level, an inner flywheel couples open-world seeding and autocatalytic propagation. The former mines authentic workflows as seed tasks from instructional videos, and employs visual-semantic dual-path trajectory reconstruction; The latter transforms these seeds into reusable primitives for controllable synthesis of diverse, complex, and verifiable tasks. To enable efficient and reliable trajectory collection, we further introduce a feedback-guided snapshot-rollback retry mechanism in various real environments. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CUA-Master-27B achieves competitive performance across GUI-only and GUI-CLI hybrid benchmarks, scoring 80.2 on OSWorld Verified, 36.9 on OSWorld 2.0, 43.9 on WeaveBench, and 25.0 on Agents' Last Exam. Our framework also substantially improves the quality and efficiency of data synthesis, and exhibits continuous gains across recursive iterations.

ComplianceAtlas: A Taxonomy-Driven Agentic AI Framework for Automated AI Act Gap Analysis and Remediation

Ilias Driouich, Hongliu Cao, Eoin Thomas, Yannick Devaux, Agnes Brodelle

原文摘要

Assessing regulatory compliance for high-risk AI systems requires systematic identification of technical gaps such as missing controls, in- adequate processes, or shallow evaluation of practices. Compliance officers typically admin- ister structured questionnaires collecting evi- dence of current practices, where organizations respond with descriptions of their existing pro- cesses, technical capabilities, and architectural choices. However, translating these compli- ance questionnaire responses into typed, ac- tionable gap diagnoses remains unsystematic. In this paper, we present a literature-grounded taxonomy of technical compliance gaps cover- ing areas such as accuracy, robustness, logging, and human oversight, and embed it in GapTo- Compliance, a two-stage agentic framework coordinating two specialized agents: a Gap Extraction Agent that performs hierarchical rea- soning from compliance areas to specific gap types, and a Remediation Planning Agent that ranks remediation actions from a remediation catalog via multi-signal scoring combining se- mantic similarity, regulatory alignment, and effort estimation. We evaluate this framework against four automatic compliance gap detec- tion baselines across 9 AI systems and 6 AI families. Our approach achieves a gap-type F1 of 0.831 (vs. 0.533 for the strongest baseline) and remediation P@5 of 0.872 (vs. 0.635 for retrieval methods), demonstrating promising potential for automated compliance workflows. The structured agent coordination reveals a path toward human-in-the-loop compliance systems where automated gap extraction reduces expert burden while maintaining auditability, and the taxonomy-driven design enables extension to emerging regulatory frameworks beyond

Nested Convex-Body Chasing for Online Optimization with Evolving Feasible Sets

Dhruv Sarkar, Aprameyo Chakrabartty

原文摘要

We study online optimization with nested shrinking feasible regions in two settings: convex optimization with nested evolving feasible sets (CONES) and adversarial constrained online convex optimization (COCO). Our algorithms separate loss control from geometric movement: constrained minimizers and cumulative-loss tests preserve regret guarantees, while a deterministic resettable nested convex-body chaser limits movement. For CONES with a $G$-Lipschitz, $μ$-strongly convex objective on a diameter-$D$ domain, we chase intersections of the current feasible set with adaptive objective sublevel sets. Using the Euclidean chasing ratio $O(\sqrt{d\log(1+d)})$, we obtain nonpositive regret at every prefix and movement $O(\sqrt{d\log(1+d)\,GD\log(eT)/μ})$. The bound adapts to the increase in the constrained optimum value. In dimension two, with all other parameters fixed, every randomized algorithm with terminal expected regret $O(T^β)$, $β<1$, suffers $Ω(\sqrt{\log T})$ expected movement on some deterministic nested sequence, proving optimal horizon dependence. Under linear growth away from the constrained minimizer set, Steiner-point tracking yields movement independent of $T$. For general convex COCO, one-step-delayed chasing with regularized-leader resets gives regret $O(G_fD\sqrt{d\log(1+d)T})$ and cumulative constraint violation $O(G_gD\sqrt{d\log(1+d)T})$. For strongly convex losses, both are $O(d\log(1+d)\log(eT))$ when other parameters are fixed. These reductions replace the $O(d^{d/2})$ projection-path factor in prior analyses by the polynomial dimension dependence of Euclidean nested convex-body chasing.

Alignment Imprint: Zero-Shot AI-Generated Text Detection via Provable Preference Discrepancy

Junxi Wu, Kailin Huang, Dongjian Hu, Bin Chen, Hao Wu, Shu-Tao Xia, Changliang Zou

原文摘要

Detecting AI-generated text is an important but challenging problem. Existing likelihood-based detection methods are often sensitive to content complexity and may exhibit unstable performance. In this paper, our key insight is that modern Large Language Models (LLMs) undergo alignment (including fine-tuning and preference tuning), leaving a measurable distributional imprint. We theoretically derive this imprint by abstracting the alignment process as a sequence of constrained optimization steps, showing that the log-likelihood ratio can naturally decompose into implicit instructional biases and preference rewards. We refer to this quantity as the Alignment Imprint. Furthermore, to mitigate the instability in high-entropy regions, we introduce Log-likelihood Alignment Preference Discrepancy (LAPD), a standardized information-weighted statistic based on alignment imprint. We provide statistical guarantee that alignment-based statistics dominate Fast-DetectGPT in performance. We also theoretically show that LAPD strictly improves the unweighted alignment scores when the aligned and base models are close in distribution. Extensive experiments show that LAPD achieves an improvement 45.82% relative to the strongest existing baselines, yielding large and consistent gains across all settings.

From Local Skills to Long-Horizon Web Tasks: Progressive Skill Exploration for LLM Web Agents

Xueyang Feng, Xiaohe Bo, Xu Chen, Quanyu Dai, Feng Wen

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) are driving autonomous agents toward real-world environments, with the Web emerging as one of the most representative interaction scenarios. However, training Web agents with naive exploration remains challenging: successful trajectories are rare, and the sparse terminal rewards make it difficult for agents to obtain useful feedback from failed trajectories. Inspired by skill acquisition theory, we propose Skill-Composed Progressive Exploration (SCOPE), a short-to-long learning framework for long-horizon Web agents that decomposes complex task exploration into a gradual expansion process from local skills to complete task-solving capability. Specifically, SCOPE iteratively explores around local skills: Skill Discovery extracts reusable local skills and failure experiences from historical rollouts; Skill Orchestration composes discovered skills into high-level skill chains; and Skill Expansion leverages failure experiences aligned with the current skill chain to guide the agent toward exploring new subskills. Through this process, SCOPE progressively constructs task-completing skill chains across rollouts and internalizes them into the policy parameters through agentic on-policy distillation. Extensive experiments on WebArena, WebVoyager, and WebShop show that SCOPE consistently improves exploration dynamics and achieves 3.9% to 18.6% relative gains over the strongest baselines in each setting.
