Mitigating the Likelihood Paradox in Flow-based OOD Detection: An Entropic Perspective

Donghwan Kim, Hyunsoo Yoon

原文摘要

Deep generative models that can tractably compute input likelihoods, including normalizing flows, often assign unexpectedly high likelihoods to out-of-distribution (OOD) inputs. We mitigate this paradox from an entropic perspective with Semantic Proportional Entropy Manipulation (SPEM), a training-free procedure that applies stronger perturbations to inputs less similar to an in-distribution (ID) memory bank. We derive theoretical lower bounds showing that this entropy gap increases the expected log-likelihood difference in favor of the ID, and experiments on standard benchmarks show that this manipulation realigns the likelihood ordering with human intuition. Strikingly, this realignment persists even when the flow is given only visually meaningless noise instead of the original input, and we analyze this phenomenon theoretically to characterize the conditions under which it occurs.

The Price of Failure Risk: Clipped Barrier Policy Gradients with Convex Regularization

Pekka Malo, Lauri Viitasaari, Antti Suominen, Eeva Vilkkumaa, Olli Tahvonen

原文摘要

In many control problems, actions consume a resource budget, such as a wear allowance, and the probability of exhausting it within a given horizon must stay below a tolerance. A simple, widely used approach is to augment the state with the remaining budget, subtract an interior barrier from the utility and penalize exhaustion, so that policy-gradient methods can be applied unchanged. We clip the combined one-step reward from below at a level m to keep the returns of exploratory policies finite. The clip level is a price of failure risk, since the clipped value decomposes exactly into the utility before failure, the cost of the interior margin and m times a geometric failure risk. Consequently, an approximately optimal policy maximizes utility net of margin cost among policies with no greater risk. Its risk exceeds that of any comparison policy by at most order 1/m and can be certified from its value or from validation data. Our main result proves exponential convergence of the population policy-gradient flow for every parameter regularizer that is convex along generalized geodesics and sufficiently strong relative to the price. This extends the mean-field analysis from relative entropy to weight decay and to finite networks. Relative entropy adds parameter noise and a pull toward a prior, whereas weight decay provides only the pull. Action regularization bounds changes in failure risk by the relative entropy to a reference policy. The bounds are evaluated on an exact maintenance benchmark, a fuel-tank controller, a solvable flow and a benchmark-suite task.

Anti-coherence Regularized Absolute Scaling for Out-of-Distribution Detection

Donghwan Kim, Youngwoong Jin, Hyunsoo Yoon

原文摘要

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is recognized as a critical problem in AI safety. SCALE is an effective post-hoc OOD detection method in the activation-shaping family that requires no training data and rescales penultimate activations using a percentile-based magnitude ratio. However, this ratio is ill-defined when negative activations are present, since positive and negative contributions cancel within the underlying sum, causing SCALE to degenerate on backbones such as ViT. We address this with an Absolute Fix that computes the ratio over absolute-valued activations rather than discarding negative activations through ReLU. Building on this corrected scale, we propose Anti-coherence regularization, which penalizes the scaling factor by the fraction of a sample's max-logit contributions to the max logit that are sign-mismatched and thereby suppresses unreliable evidence for the predicted class. Despite requiring no access to training data or training labels, our method ties or outperforms activation-shaping methods that rely on training data in terms of AUROC and FPR@95 on CIFAR-10 and ImageNet under the OpenOOD v1.5 protocol.

Aligned Delta-Triplane Transformers as Occupancy World Models

Haoran Xu, Peixi Peng, Shijun Guo, Guang Tan, Yiqian Chang, Yisen Zhao, Shuaixian Wang, Yonghong Tian

原文摘要

Occupancy World Models (OWMs) aim to predict future 3D occupancy scenes from historical observations and future ego motions, providing a useful world simulation tool for autonomous driving. Existing methods usually rely on large networks to implicitly align multi-frame historical states and predict future occupancy in a full-state manner, which is costly and redundant because most scene regions remain unchanged over short time intervals. In this paper, we propose Aligned Delta-Triplane Transformer (ADTT), a compact 4D OWM that explicitly aligns historical triplanes with ego-motion compensation and predicts only future scene changes. Based on the aligned triplane prior, a query-conditioned Transformer predicts residual changes, where ego-motion queries guide controllable future motion and learnable external queries capture scene changes beyond ego motion. The predicted changes are added to the aligned prior and decoded into future occupancy scenes. Experiments on Occ3D-nus show that ADTT achieves state-of-the-art forecasting performance with fewer parameters and higher FPS. Our code is publicly available online: https://github.com/kyoran/ADTT.

Grounded and Faithful P&ID Reasoning: Constraining Vision-Language Models with Recovered Evidence Graphs

Prathamesh Gadekar, Sagar Srinivas Sakhinana, Venkataramana Runkana

原文摘要

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) are the authoritative maps of process plants: isolation, maintenance, and HAZOP decisions depend on what connects to what. Vision-language models describe these sheets fluently, yet they often invent or miss process connections---and an invented or missed link can reverse an isolation or reachability call, so a plant decision cannot trust a fluent answer that was never checked against the linework. We instead recover an explicit graph of the drawing---its symbols, the process connections between them, and the tags that name them---and then require the model to answer only by querying that graph through seven read-only operators, so a topology claim is returned only when it cites the query results that support it. On TopoPID-VQA, a new suite of 3000 topology questions over these sheets, Graph-Grounded Harness (Ours) raises exact match accuracy from 36.7--41.3% under image-only prompting to 74.3--76.0% for Qwen3-VL-4B, Qwen3-VL-8B, and Gemma-4-E4B. It does so on an imperfect substrate: on Digitize-PID dataset the recovered graph scores F1 0.742 on exact process connections, and 0.801 once symbols and tags are pooled in. The residual errors track that gap---grounding pays off where the recovered graph is right, and perception error still breaks topology questions where it is not.

Why Does Counterintuitive Likelihood Behavior Rarely Emerge in Tabular Anomaly Detection?

Donghwan Kim, Junghun Phee, Hyunsoo Yoon

原文摘要

Deep generative models with tractable likelihoods, exemplified by normalizing flows, offer an effective basis for anomaly detection through likelihood-based scoring. We demonstrate that, unlike in the image domain where deep generative models frequently assign higher likelihoods to anomalous data, such counterintuitive behavior occurs rarely in tabular settings. We first introduce a domain-agnostic formulation that enables consistent detection and evaluation of the counterintuitive phenomenon, addressing the lack of a precise definition in prior work. Through extensive experiments on 47 tabular datasets benchmarked against 13 baseline models and on 10 CV/NLP embedding datasets from ADBench, we show that the phenomenon is consistently rare in general tabular data and that normalizing flow likelihood achieves competitive anomaly detection performance. We further provide theoretical and empirical analyses attributing this disparity to differences in dimensionality and feature correlation between tabular and image data. Therefore, our results indicate that likelihood-based detection with normalizing flows is a practical approach for tabular anomaly detection.

MahaVar: OOD Detection via Class-wise Mahalanobis Distance Variance under Neural Collapse

Donghwan Kim, Hyunsoo Yoon

原文摘要

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is a critical component for ensuring the reliability of deep neural networks in safety-critical applications. In this work, we present a key empirical observation: for in-distribution (ID) samples, class-wise Mahalanobis distances exhibit a pronounced sharp minimum structure, where the distance to the nearest class is small while distances to all other classes remain large, resulting in high variance across classes. In contrast, OOD samples tend to exhibit a less pronounced sharp minimum structure, producing comparatively lower variance across classes. We further provide a theoretical analysis grounding this observation in Neural Collapse geometry: under relaxed Neural Collapse assumptions on within-class compactness and inter-class separation, ID samples are shown to structurally exhibit high class-wise distance variance, offering a theoretical basis for its use as an OOD score. Motivated by this observation and its theoretical backing, we propose MahaVar, a simple and effective post-hoc OOD detector that augments the Mahalanobis distance with a class-wise distance variance term. Following the OpenOOD v1.5 benchmark protocol, MahaVar achieves state-of-the-art performance on CIFAR-100 and ImageNet, with consistent improvements in both AUROC and FPR@95 over existing Mahalanobis-based methods across all benchmarks.

When Stored Evidence Stops Being Usable: Scale-Conditioned Evaluation of Agent Memory

Jiaqi Shao, Yiyi Lu, Yunzhen Zhang, Bing Luo

原文摘要

Memory-agent evaluations report fixed-snapshot accuracy or retrieval quality, but these scores do not show whether evidence remains usable as irrelevant sessions (sessions not annotated as task-relevant evidence for the query) accumulate. We present a scale-conditioned evaluation protocol for agent memory under evidence-preserving growth: for each query, task evidence is held fixed while irrelevant sessions are added. The protocol logs agent-memory trajectories and reports four diagnostics: budget-compliant reliability, tail memory-call burden, failure-regime decomposition, and the usable-scale boundary where reliability falls below the target. Applied to LongMemEval and LoCoMo across flat, planar, and hierarchical memory interfaces, the protocol shows reliability loss is not a single phenomenon. On LongMemEval, HippoRAG stays within the two-call budget but loses 16-20 percentage points in budget-compliant reliability as irrelevant sessions are added; LiCoMemory's observed failures depend strongly on the agent, with Qwen3-8B exceeding the budget while Qwen3-32B and Qwen3-235B remain reliable in the tested range. The result supports a framework for making scalable-memory claims conditional on agent, interface, scale range, and interaction budget. Judging Before Propagation: Task-Graph Contextual Integrity for Multi-Agent Privacy

Hengyu Wu, Blaise Delattre, Yang Cao

原文摘要

Multi-agent LLM systems increasingly rely on persistent memory and inter-agent communication. These capabilities create privacy risks that extend beyond individual interactions: a release appropriate in isolation may become inappropriate when combined with information previously disclosed to a recipient or propagated to downstream agents along the planned workflow. Existing Contextual Integrity (CI) mechanisms for agentic systems typically rely on local judgments that assess each disclosure in isolation, with or without regard to the recipient's history, but do not account for how information propagates downstream. However, compliance at the current boundary does not guarantee appropriateness across the workflow. We introduce Task-Graph Contextual Integrity (TG-CI), to our knowledge the first task-graph-native formalization of Contextual Integrity for multi-agent systems. TG-CI represents a workflow as a Multi-Agent Task Graph (MATG) and extends CI from atomic transfers to stateful, graph-level information flows by jointly considering an item's intended propagation scope and recipients' evolving disclosure states. We operationalize TG-CI through propagation-scoped authorization under two complementary policies: Full-Scope, which requires admissibility across the complete downstream scope, and Auto-Region, which confines each item to its maximal admissible region using lightweight frontier gates. We further introduce MAPLE-Bench, a benchmark of 144 cases across four scenarios that jointly vary MATG topology, disclosure history, compromised-agent placement, and item-level privacy policies. In our primary experimental configuration, TG-CI reduces the mean unauthorized disclosure count by 85.8-94.1% relative to the Local-History CI baseline, while retaining 93.6-96.1% of the baseline's task accuracy, with the two enforcement policies providing complementary privacy--cost--utility trade-offs.

ASIWorld: Benchmarking Autonomous Agents in a Persistent Survival Sandbox

Jianfeng Lin, Runze Wang, Haorong Hong, Yuxuan Xie, Zeno Zeng, Zhongyuan Liu

原文摘要

Evaluating autonomous agents requires examining whether they can translate goals into coherent action across extended interactions. In persistent environments, this requires coordinating interdependent actions under incomplete observations, accounting for delayed effects, and adapting as earlier decisions shape subsequent opportunities. We introduce ASIWorld, a survival sandbox that combines persistent world and character state with character-scoped observations and a programmable asynchronous interface to study sustained goal execution. Agents pursue interdependent production and exploration tasks through direct actions or agent-authored programs that continue running between model calls. The evaluation assesses task success, the attainment of development achievements, and survival costs, complemented by an analysis of execution behavior. In an exploratory study of nine agent configurations using a common harness, eight complete the production task and six complete both tasks. Analyses of execution trajectories and performance across difficulty levels reveal different preparation, combat, and recovery behaviors among configurations with similar task outcomes. Incomplete preparation is associated with stalled progression, while configurations that complete the tasks differ in survival costs and the fulfillment of additional achievement criteria. These findings illustrate the value of assessing sustained goal execution through both task outcomes and the behaviors and costs associated with achieving them.

OpenAttention: One Percent Is Enough with Tail Proxies

原文摘要

Sparse attention reads only a small subset of the key-value cache, and how to treat the unread tail remains a key challenge. Discarding the tail biases the output, and sampling it as previous approaches do fails at reads of 5% and below, where the tail likely holds heavy hitters the selector missed. Our key observation is that the simplest possible proxy, one token that folds the entire tail into its count-aware mean, already yields lower output error than a sample at every read behind a practical selector. We further show in closed form that at low reads sampling nearly doubles the weight error of discarding while a single proxy stays below it. Building on these findings, we explore approximating the dense attention distribution with a few proxies that target the tail. We propose OpenAttention, a pipeline of clustering, ErrorGate and top-k selection followed by a count-aware mean proxy. To implement clustering and selection both efficiently and effectively, we design training-free Query-Geometry Clustering (QGC) and a Query-Geometry Selector (QGS), which compress the keys while respecting the query directions. Additionally, unlike prior methods that rank clusters by centroid alone, ErrorGate allocates the exact read by the estimated weight error of each cluster. On RULER-32K HARD with Llama-3.1-8B, OpenAttention retains 99% of dense accuracy at a 1% read. It also achieves state-of-the-art accuracy across models, context lengths and datasets. Our customized attention kernel for OpenAttention runs the decode attention stage 10$\times$ faster than dense attention at a 1% read.

Poisoning Agentic Alpha: Adversarial Vulnerabilities Across Roles and Architectures in Multi-Agent Trading Systems

原文摘要

LLM-based multi-agent trading systems are moving from research prototypes to live deployments that control real assets. They ingest news and social media from the open web and pass it between agents, so a single corrupted signal can reach the final decision and cause financial loss. We study two adversaries that can introduce such signals without access to model internals: a low-barrier data adversary that plants manipulated content in web sources, and a compromised-agent adversary that tampers with an agent's prompt. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic empirical study in finance of how an adversarial signal enters a multi-agent trading system and whether it survives to alter the final trading decision. Along the role axis, we pair each of four roles---Analyst, Researcher, Trader, and Risk Manager---with an attack matched to its interface. Along the structural axis, we compare four communication topologies, interpreted with a simple parameter-free heuristic, the Adversarial Signal Preservation Score. Experiments on post-cutoff data span five assets and two target directions. We find that no architecture is inherently robust: majority voting offers conditional protection depending on benign-agent agreement, while compromising a terminal decision node can bypass upstream safeguards. These findings provide empirical insights for developing more effective defense strategies for multi-agent systems.

Rethinking Group Recommender Systems in the Era of Generative AI: From One-Shot Recommendations to Conversational Group Decision Support

Dietmar Jannach, Amra Delić, Francesco Ricci, Markus Zanker

原文摘要

More than twenty-five years ago, early ideas emerged on how to design systems that provide recommendations to groups of users rather than individuals. Since then, a wide range of algorithmic approaches has been proposed to elicit individual preferences, aggregate them, and generate group recommendations. However, despite this substantial body of work, relatively few examples of real-world group recommender systems are in use. This observation invites reflection on the assumptions of the academic research, particularly regarding how inter-group communication unfolds and how recommendation-supported decisions should be made. In this essay, we suggest that some of these assumptions and corresponding system designs may not fully align with users' needs or expectations. We therefore outline a forward-looking perspective that explores how insights from group-decision making research and recent advances in Generative AI, including systems such as ChatGPT, could better inform the design of group recommender systems. As one possible direction, we consider settings in which human group members interact and exchange information through a chat based interface, while an AI-based agent supports the decision-making process. Such an approach may contribute to design more natural group and system interactions, and could help facilitate a broader adoption of group recommender systems in practice.

Invert4TVG: A Temporal Video Grounding Framework with Inversion Tasks Preserving Action Understanding Ability

Zhaoyu Chen, Hongnan Lin, Yongwei Nie, Fei Ma, Xuemiao Xu, Fei Yu, Chengjiang Long

原文摘要

Temporal Video Grounding (TVG) aims to localize video segments corresponding to a given textual query, which often describes human actions. However, we observe that current methods, usually optimizing for high temporal Intersection-over-Union (IoU), frequently struggle to accurately recognize or understand the underlying actions in both the video and query, thus reducing the effectiveness of these methods. To address this, we propose a novel TVG framework that integrates inversion-based TVG as auxiliary objectives to maintain the model's action understanding ability. We introduce three kinds of inversion TVG tasks derived from the original TVG annotations: (1) Verb Completion, predicting masked verbs (actions) in queries given video segments; (2) Action Recognition, identifying query-described actions; and (3) Video Description, generating descriptions containing query-relevant actions given video segments. These inversion tasks are entirely derived from the original TVG tasks and are probabilistically integrated with them within a reinforcement learning framework. By leveraging carefully designed reward functions, the model preserves its ability to understand actions, thereby improving the accuracy of temporal grounding. Experiments show our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches, achieving a 7.1\% improvement in R1@0.7 on Charades-STA for a 3B model.

Category-Anchored Large Language Models for Next POI Recommendation

Lexi Bai, Xiaopeng Zeng, Xun Zhou, Yuanshao Zhu, James Jianqiao Yu

原文摘要

Next point-of-interest (POI) recommendation aims to predict a user's next destination from spatio-temporal check-in data, and serves as the foundation for many location-based services. Recent advances incorporate large language models (LLMs) into this task by textualizing user trajectories to exploit their semantic reasoning ability. However, directly generating POI identifiers with such models is unreliable: POIs are sparse, localized, and long-tailed entities with weak natural-language semantics, which creates a semantic-to-entity gap between high-level mobility intent and concrete POI prediction. To bridge this gap, we propose ANCHOR, a category-anchored framework for semantic-to-entity grounding in next POI recommendation. Specifically, ANCHOR first estimates category-level mobility intent in a compact and stable semantic space, rather than predicting concrete POI entities directly. The inferred intent is then grounded into a candidate set by integrating three complementary sources of mobility evidence: category anchors, historical visit memory, and user preferences. Finally, a history-aware reranker selects the target POI by matching each candidate with the user's historical mobility patterns and current context. Experiments on three real-world check-in datasets show that ANCHOR consistently outperforms representative traditional, structure-enhanced, and LLM-based baselines on the reported metrics. Further analyses validate the effectiveness of semantic-to-entity grounding and show favorable trade-offs among candidate coverage, ranking quality, and inference efficiency.

WNM-3D: A World Navigation Model with 3D Scene Conditioning for Closed-Loop VLN

Yuehao Huang, Yunzi Wu, Xiaotao Zhang, Xinhai Li, Jiankun Dong, Sunyao Zhou, Jiajun Lv, Chi Zhang 等 11 位作者

原文摘要

Recent vision-language navigation (VLN) systems increasingly adapt pretrained vision-language models (VLMs) into vision-language-action (VLA) policies that map egocentric observations and language instructions directly to navigation actions. Although semantically capable, such action-centric training does not explicitly model how the agent's visual observations evolve under its predicted motion. Generative world-action models (WAMs) jointly predict future observations and actions, yet existing WAMs for continuous VLN do not condition joint future-view and action generation on geometry-aware representations inferred from the observation history. We present WNM-3D, a generative World Navigation Model with 3D scene conditioning for continuous VLN. A frozen feed-forward geometry encoder extracts cross-view representations from monocular RGB history, and a trainable 3D Scene-to-Token Adapter converts them into a fixed-length scene prefix for the world-action Diffusion Transformer. Through block-causal attention, this prefix remains visible to every future video-action block throughout joint denoising, providing persistent geometric context. We train WNM-3D with supervised world-action learning, DAgger-style adaptation on policy-visited states, and Counterfactual DanceGRPO refinement. Across GN-Bench and VLN-CE, WNM-3D consistently outperforms the backbone-matched WNM-2D counterpart, demonstrating gains from 3D scene conditioning across distinct visual domains. WNM-3D further outperforms strong VLN baselines on GN-Bench and demonstrates closed-loop deployment on a physical robot. Component and stage-wise ablations support the Adapter design and the complementary roles of DAgger-SFT and subsequent reward-guided refinement.

DEG: Diffusion-Enhanced GFlowNet for Solving Vehicle Routing Problems

Ni Zhang, Zhiqin Zhang, Ling Pan, Hoong Chuin Lau, Zhiguang Cao

原文摘要

Traditional neural solvers for solving vehicle routing problems (VRPs) often suffer from limited solution diversity, motivating the development of Generative Flow Network (GFlowNet)-based models. However, the effectiveness of these models is frequently constrained by insufficient flow expansion in high-reward regions, limiting their ability to distribute probability across promising solution routes. Deeper exploration could yield superior results. Diffusion models, in contrast, provide stronger structural guidance for exploration. These two paradigms are naturally complementary: GFlowNet can supply edge-level signals for diffusion to embed, while diffusion can guide broader exploration. Leveraging this synergy, we propose Diffusion-Enhanced GFlowNet (DEG), a novel framework that integrates GFlowNet with a diffusion model to encourage richer flow expansion toward high-reward regions and derive higher-quality solutions. Specifically, DEG exploits GFlowNet's inherent diversity to generate edge-specific backward signals, applies the stochastic noise schedule of diffusion to perturb these signals, and then denoises them within the GFlowNet paradigm. To further improve scalability, we introduce a specialized decoder capable of dynamically adapting to diverse problem scales. Extensive experimental evaluations on synthetic and real-world datasets, including instances with up to 10,000 nodes, demonstrate that DEG consistently achieves favorable performance compared to baseline methods.

ARCANA: A Benchmark for Abstraction and Analogical Reasoning

Ruqi Chen, Zilei Wang, Wei Wang

原文摘要

Analogical reasoning is widely considered a fundamental component of human intelligence. Few benchmarks are designed to explicitly test far analogical reasoning - reasoning between domains that are superficially dissimilar yet share deep relational or structural similarities. In this work, we introduce an analogical reasoning benchmark called Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus of ANAlogy (ARCANA). The tasks of ARCANA require performing far analogical mappings from real-world objects or physical phenomena to abstract grid-based transformations, different from the well-known ARC-AGI benchmark which primarily emphasized innate human priors. We validate ARCANA through a human study, demonstrating that humans solve these tasks reliably. In contrast, evaluations across a range of large language models show a distinct performance gap compared to humans, revealing systematic failure modes that remain challenging for current models. To address this gap, we propose ConceptSIR, a reasoning framework based on concept slippage, introspection, and reflection. Experiments demonstrate that ConceptSIR enables standard LLMs to solve several challenging ARCANA tasks that were unsolved by direct prompting in our evaluation. Overall, our results suggest that far analogical reasoning remains an open problem for contemporary LLMs. All the materials are available at sites.google.com/view/arcanacogtest. The complete codebase, including benchmark, and ConceptSIR, is publicly available at https://github.com/density-11/arcana-test. All ARCANA data and task instances can be accessed and explored at https://arcanacogtest.org/.

Compile Away Uncertainty: Self-Evolving Agent Skills via Programmatic Compilation

Chengyu Yang, Yunxiang Zheng, Zongzheng Li, Jiamei Li, Boxun Lan, Xiaoyu Liu, Xiaoyu Zhang, Xiaohong Chen 等 9 位作者

原文摘要

Self-evolving agent skills enable AI agents to accumulate and refine reusable procedural knowledge from interaction experience without updating model parameters. However, since such skills are typically represented as textual documents and executed through LLM reasoning, even previously learned procedures must be repeatedly interpreted and regenerated, introducing avoidable uncertainty into every execution. In contrast, program execution is deterministic and independently verifiable. Intuitively, transforming well-specified operations into executable programs can reduce reliance on LLM reasoning and, consequently, reduce execution uncertainty. Motivated by this intuition, we introduce SKillCompiler, a self-evolving skill framework that integrates programmatic compilation into the skill evolution process. Specifically, SkillCompiler adopts an executability-aware skill compilation strategy that decomposes skills into fine-grained operations, analyzes their executability, and constructs hybrid skill skeletons that retain LLM reasoning for context-dependent operations while compiling well-specified ones into validated programs. To avoid redundant program synthesis and enable executable knowledge to accumulate across evolving skills, we further design a program asset reuse mechanism that organizes validated programs as reusable assets, retrieves existing implementations whenever applicable, and synthesizes and verifies new programs only when necessary. Extensive experiments on five benchmarks and six model families demonstrate that SkillCompiler consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving up to 32.33\% improvement in task performance.

Agent-Wise Test-Time Normalization for Camera-Based Cooperative Perception with Corrupted Collaborators

Yu Wang, Shaohua Wang, Yicheng Li, Kecheng Sun

原文摘要

Intermediate-fusion cooperative perception lets a vehicle detect objects beyond its own field of view by fusing features shared by nearby agents. When only a collaborator's cameras are degraded by fog, motion blur or exposure errors, the features it shares drift away from the training distribution while the ego input stays clean, and cooperation can become worse than not cooperating at all. Test-time batch-normalization adaptation, the standard training-free remedy, estimates statistics over the pooled batch of all agents and therefore normalizes both the clean ego and the corrupted collaborator with a mixture of two distributions. We show that this mixing harms even the clean ego: when the ego shares BN statistics with a corrupted collaborator, its detection from its own features drops by 3.58 to 6.68 AP@0.5 points although its cameras are untouched. We propose AgentNorm, an agent-wise test-time normalization that i) estimates the normalization statistics of every collaborator from its own current observation and ii) anchors the ego to its source statistics, so that the ego path remains exactly the original model. AgentNorm has no learnable parameters, needs no gradients or labels, is independent of the order of test frames, and runs locally on each agent without changing the transmitted features. On camera-based OPV2V with four fusion checkpoints and collaborator-only corruptions, AgentNorm raises AP@0.5 under severity-5 fog from 29.42-37.25 to 43.32-58.86 and outperforms pooled normalization by 5.53-12.94 points under fog and motion blur, at an extra latency of 2.3 ms per frame. On the real-world DAIR-V2X-C dataset, it outperforms pooled normalization in all ten infrastructure-corruption settings. We also report the cases it does not fix: occlusion, which removes image content rather than shifting feature statistics, and the case in which all agents share the same shift.

What Breaks When Facts Become Stories? The Distortions Source-Agreement Metrics Miss When Models Retell Real Events

Kwangsuk Park, JiWoong Yang, Vaniushkina Kseniia

原文摘要

Language models are now widely used to turn recorded facts into media for public consumption, yet evaluation of such output still assumes agreement with the source as its measure of success. In reconstruction, where departing from the source can itself be the goal, this criterion measures the wrong construct: applied as is, it counts intended departures as errors; withheld, it lets real distortion through. We had three model families rewrite 2,000 news articles as summaries and as stories, measured what changed on every axis of the five Ws and how, and asked of each detected distortion whether the assigned perspective warranted it, which set a third of them aside. Time and manner were not lost but replaced, while place and causation lost the expressions that carry them. Accountability distortion behaved otherwise. Barely present in summaries, it rose up to sevenfold in stories, and of those whose direction could be determined, two in three lightened the perpetrator's responsibility. Such distortions survive claim-level fact checking and leave the retelling grammatically cleaner than its source. Where our judges disagreed, three authors relabeling the same cases converged on whether a distortion had occurred but not on whether it was warranted, a boundary contested rather than merely hard to detect. To support work on detecting and reducing them, we release ReTold-2k, a reconstructable corpus with the scoring protocol and per-judge baselines kept unaggregated.(https://github.com/Retold2K/retold2k).

原文摘要

The Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (Lasso) has been widely employed for feature selection in linear models and has also been extended to multi-layer perceptron (MLP) networks for both feature and group feature selection. Group-Lasso has also been used in feature selection using feed-forward neural networks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to incorporate the Group-Lasso principle into a Siamese network architecture for feature selection. Unlike existing approaches that primarily optimize classification accuracy, the proposed method aims to identify a compact subset of features that simultaneously preserves the intrinsic representation of the input data (the goal of Siamese network) and is expected to achieve high classification performance. Two variants of the proposed framework are developed: one based on the Euclidean distance and the other on a modified Jaccard similarity measure for real-valued vectors. The latter is specifically designed to improve feature selection for high?dimensional sparse data. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on 12 benchmark datasets with feature dimensions ranging from 6 to 7070 using eight different classifiers. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Siamese Lasso framework consistently identifies compact and discriminative feature subsets maintaining competitive or superior classification performance, although the loss function used explicitly did not consider any regularizer to learn classification. In addition, the quality of the embeddings produced by these networks is assessed using manifold learning techniques such as UMAP and t-SNE.

Does Scaling Toward AGI Depend on What System-1 Lets System-2 Execute?

原文摘要

Progress toward artificial general intelligence (AGI) has largely relied on scaling a resource-intensive executive, System-2, through larger models, more data and compute, longer reasoning, and more agents. We ask whether the next stage may come instead from co-designing it with System-1, a lightweight, semantically aware predictor that evaluates candidate interactions before execution, so that System-2 acts only on those worth their cost. Our answer is a qualified yes. We study \textit{conditional interaction}, a predict--gate--execute--update loop: System-1 estimates each candidate's utility, System-2 executes those admitted by an adaptive threshold, and the outcomes update System-1. The loop spans training, test-time reasoning, adaptive decision-making, and agentic tool use, with utility and cost defined by the application. Under ideal screening and equal execution costs, execution compute falls by a factor approaching $1/ρ_u$, where $ρ_u$ is the density of utility-relevant interactions (cost-weighted when costs differ); prediction errors, exploration, and distribution shift reduce the saving. We bound selection regret by predictor error and the utility margin. These results motivate our central hypothesis: $ρ_u$ is a measurable coordinate of scaling efficiency and makes informative compute a better description of scaling than total compute.

ASTOR: Multi-Task Code Reinforcement Learning via Utility-Driven Coordination

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) with verifiable rewards has proven effective at post-training LLMs for coding, yet deploying separate task-specific specialists incurs costs that scale with the number of tasks, motivating a unified multi-task RL (MTRL) approach. However, existing MTRL methods treat all coding tasks uniformly, relying on fixed data curricula under a shared optimization strategy, ultimately limiting the effectiveness of multi-task training. To address these limitations, we propose ASTOR, a multi-tASk code reinforcement learning framework via uTility-driven coORdination. Centered on task utility, a signal capturing each task learning potential and cross-task synergy, ASTOR comprises two coupled modules: 1) Hierarchical Utility-Routed Data Scheduling module hierarchically allocates training budget and prioritizes informative prompts, steering training toward the most valuable data and 2) Adaptive Utility-Calibrated Policy Optimization module dynamically scales per-task KL regularization, matching update constraints to each tasks current training state. Experiments on two widely-used LLMs across four representative coding tasks demonstrate that ASTOR consistently improves a single model across all tasks, outperforming the best task-specific specialist by 9.0%-9.5% and surpassing the strongest MTRL baseline by 7.5%-12.8%.

原文摘要

End-to-end automation of realistic healthcare operations stresses three capabilities underrepresented in current benchmarks: policy density, decisions must be grounded in a large library of medical, insurance, and operational rules; Multi-role composition: a single task requires the agent to play multiple roles with handoffs; and multilateral interaction: intermediate workflow steps are multi-turn dialogs, such as peer-to-peer review and patient outreach. We introduce $χ$-Bench, a benchmark of long-horizon healthcare workflows across three domains: provider prior authorization, payer utilization management, and care management. Each task hands the agent a clinical case in a high-fidelity simulator of 20 healthcare apps exposed via 87 MCP tools, which it must drive to a terminal status through tool calls and writing the role's artifacts, guided by a 1,290+ document managed-care operations handbook skill. Across 30 agent harness/models configurations, the best agent resolves only 28.0% of tasks, no agent clears 20% on strict pass^3, and executing all tasks in a single session slumps the performance to 3.8%. These results raise the hypothesis that similar gaps are likely to surface in other policy-dense, role-composed, irreversible enterprise domains.

Does Federated Training Degrade Explainability? A Comparative Analysis of Grad-CAM Faithfulness in Centralized vs. Federated Deepfake Detection

Muhammad Uzair Shahid, Muhammad Zabil Mehboob

原文摘要

Automated detection has become the essential safeguard against realistic synthetic media, but deploying it at scale requires training on sensitive data from multiple organizations, putting privacy and the transparency demanded by forensic review in direct conflict. Federated learning resolves the privacy side by sharing only model updates rather than raw data, but whether this comes at the cost of trustworthy gradient-based explanations, which analysts rely on to decide whether or not to trust a flagged clip, has not been studied. We present the systematic study of Grad-CAM explanation faithfulness under federated deepfake detection, evaluating an EfficientNet-B4 detector on FaceForensics++ across five federated clients under varying degrees of data heterogeneity. We find that the relationship between federation and explanation quality is non-monotonic: at near-IID (Independent and Identically Distributed Data) and moderate heterogeneity, federated models match or exceed the faithfulness of a centralized baseline, but at extreme heterogeneity, explanations break down entirely, becoming spatially incoherent and, on average, causally misleading. This degradation is not a general cost of federated training but a threshold effect tied to client heterogeneity, and we offer practical guidance for identifying when privacy-preserving deepfake detection can be deployed safely and when its explanations can no longer be trusted. Code and data partitions are available for reproducibility.

Soei: Structured Observability of Evidence and Intent for Multi-Agent AI Software Engineering

Mohammed Nayeem Khan, K S Sarun Kumar

原文摘要

AI coding agents now do long, multi-step and multi-session software work with little supervision. When a developer comes back to that work, the useful question is not what the model said but what was actually done, by whom, and whether it is finished. We study this in three parts. First, we verify Agenttrail, an open-source local observability tool for coding agents, against its source at commit e4ba2da: nine documented constants and mechanisms hold at file-and-line level, two event pipelines are never unified, and its Map service has an unauthenticated local mutation surface. Second, we run a prototype of our system on 45 real coding-agent sessions (102,233 records, 20,577 tool executions, 2,336 human-to-agent episodes). With a blind-audited classifier (precision 83.3% and 96.7%) we estimate that 23.4% (95% CI 17.1 to 35.7) of code-editing episodes end with no independent check after the last edit, and that 57.8% of to-dos the agent marked complete after editing had no proof in between. A 10-minute timing heuristic for session hand-offs recovers 6 of the 24 session pairs that content lineage links. 42% of sessions run longer than 24 hours, 48.1% of transcript bytes lie past a 2 MiB replay bound, and 1,326 records in 16 sessions contain credential-like strings. Third, we propose Soei (Structured Observability of Evidence and Intent): an acknowledgement-aware event schema, a hash-chained local ledger, a W3C PROV-aligned graph, calibrated inference for attribution and lineage, and a verification layer that keeps a claim of completion apart from proof. On the same corpus the ledger is 20% of raw size, holds no content or credentials, verifies at about 126k events/s, detects tampering and replays deterministically. We position the work against concurrent 2026 proposals and define autonomy levels with evidence gates and harness metrics baselined on our data.

Integrating Heterogeneous Echocardiography AI Outputs in Language Space: Learnable Late Fusion with a Supervised LLM

原文摘要

View- and target-specific echocardiography AI models capture useful but complementary information and may not achieve sufficient predictive performance in isolation. A learned ensemble is a natural way to combine these outputs, but heterogeneous models typically require each output to be converted into a binary decision, probability, confidence score, or fixed-length feature vector. We developed a supervised large language model (LLM)-based late-fusion module that directly aggregates view-specific predicted finding statements and predicted measurements in language space and learns a case-level fusion function. In patient-level three-fold cross-validation of 859 examinations from 646 patients, the proposed method integrated heterogeneous outputs within a single framework, performed comparably to the best-performing reference strategy evaluated, and outperformed a general-purpose LLM without task-specific training. These results suggest that a supervised LLM can combine multiple upstream models without model-specific output conversion or feature engineering that requires medical knowledge.

Sparse Fine-Tuning for Parameter-Efficient Adversarial Training

Zhaoxin Wang, Zihang Ding, Handing Wang

原文摘要

Deep neural networks achieve strong performance across many tasks but remain vulnerable to adversarial perturbations. Adversarial training (AT) is one of the most effective defenses, yet it suffers from high memory cost on large models and the persistent clean-robust accuracy trade-off. Recent work introduces parameter-efficient fine-tuning, such as LoRA, into AT, but this constraint induces a notable robustness gap relative to full-parameter AT. In this work, we revisit parameter-efficient adversarial fine-tuning from a parameter space perspective. Through gradient analysis, we find that adversarial optimization is highly concentrated on a small subset of parameters, which we call Robustness-Critical Parameters (RCPs), suggesting that robustness is encoded in a sparse subspace. Building on this observation, we propose Sparse Adversarial Fine-Tuning (SAFT), which identifies RCPs via adversarial gradient saliency and performs AT by updating only these parameters while freezing the rest. Across architectures and datasets, SAFT outperforms LoRA-based methods in both clean and robust accuracy with fewer trainable parameters, and approaches or surpasses full parameter AT in robustness while updating only about 5\% of parameters.

SAFE: An LLM-as-Verifier Framework for Evidence-Grounded Multi-Hop Reasoning

Daeyong Kwon, Soyoung Yoon, Seung-won Hwang

原文摘要

Multi-hop QA benchmarks often reward Large Language Models (LLMs) for spurious correctness, where models reach correct answers through invalid intermediate reasoning. We propose SAFE, an LLM-as-verifier framework for evidence-grounded multi-hop QA. Rather than judging only the final answer after generation, SAFE verifies reasoning during generation by checking intermediate steps against the provided passages and previous reasoning trajectory. To make this process checkable, SAFE decomposes reasoning into atomic, evidence-grounded units represented with Knowledge Graph (KG) triples. At train-time, SAFE verifies benchmark supervision under KG-grounded constraints and constructs reliable verifier training data. At inference-time, an external verifier checks each generated step, identifies invalid reasoning, and provides correction feedback before errors propagate. Across three multi-hop QA benchmarks, SAFE improves accuracy by 8.8 pp on average. These results show that evidence-grounded multi-hop QA benefits from shifting LLM-based evaluation from post-hoc answer judgment to stepwise reasoning verification.
