ToolSpace: Scaling Tool-Centric Environment Synthesis for Long-Horizon Agents

Guanting Dong, Zhichao Sun, Xinyu Yang, Rui Wang, Xin Deng, Jiajie Jin, Zhixiong Yang, Junhao Huang 等 25 位作者

Large language models are deployed as long-horizon agents that compose diverse tools across MCP services into executable workflows. Existing MCP environment-scaling methods are data-centric: they first synthesize a database and scenario, then derive tools and tasks from them. As a result, tool interfaces may not match real ones, tool compositions are not grounded in execution, and tasks rarely span more than one environment. We propose ToolSpace, a tool-centric framework that reverses this order. ToolSpace mines data, state, and retry dependencies from adjacent calls in execution traces of real MCP services and open agent corpora, using deterministic rules rather than LLM judgment, and clusters the resulting weighted tool-composition graph into environments. Databases are synthesized only for state-mutating environments, while query and stateless tools replay recorded returns. ToolSpace then performs state-aware random walks with rollback and decompiles each chain into a natural-language task with assertion-based checks, keeping only samples that replay successfully from the initial state. Applied to AutomationBench and tau3-Bench Banking, the pipeline produces harder Pro versions on which 7 frontier models drop by up to 38.2 points. Across seven long-horizon tool-use benchmarks, ToolSpace raises Qwen3.6-35B-A3B from 23.0 to 41.0 average score (43.2 with RL) and GLM-5.2 from 44.6 to 56.6, on par with Claude Opus 5. Ablations show that execution-witnessed edges clearly outperform LLM-judged ones, and performance keeps improving with data and environment scale.

DiabAgent: Toward Agentic Physiological Control

As pretraining scales, medical language models have advanced rapidly in clinical question answering. Their ability to achieve effective physiological control through sustained intervention still lacks systematic quantitative evaluation. Type 1 diabetes provides a concrete setting: impaired insulin secretion creates dependence on exogenous insulin, with dosing continually adjusted using information about meals, exercise, illness, and glucose measurements. We introduce DiabAgent, a research suite for agentic physiological control comprising the Agentic Physiological Control (APC) framework, the DiabetSim simulator, and the SweetBench benchmark. APC controls glucose through medical-device tools, using ongoing observations to infer individual states, accumulate personal experience, and choose treatment actions. We build DiabetSim to simulate different patients, events, and device conditions for scalable virtual testing and training. Using DiabetSim, we construct SweetBench by instantiating 32 scenario designs as 212 glucose-control tasks. With Claude Opus 5.5 and a fixed decision interval of one hour, APC achieves a COGI of 73.5, compared with 71.2 for the open-source closed-loop baseline OpenAPS. Ablations further show that individual adaptation and contextual information improve glucose control. Combining high-frequency rule-based control with lower-frequency agent decisions shows potential for balancing control performance and computational cost. Our work provides a framework, simulator, and evaluation foundation for agents to participate in human physiological control.

CoworkOS:Scaling Agent Coworkers for Real-world Automation

Jiajie Jin, Guanting Dong, Chengjun Pan, Xin Deng, Zhuohui Sheng, Guoqiang Wang, Tao Gui, Yutao Zhu 等 40 位作者

Rapid advances in cowork agents are shifting human-AI collaboration toward real-world automation, delivering software, designs, and other artifacts. However, such productivity work demands both high-quality delivery on complex productivity tasks and continued monitoring and decision-making over long horizons, a combination that remains an open challenge. We introduce CoworkOS, a general-purpose harness for long-horizon work that separates task strategy from execution management: the model decides actions, delegation, and acceptance, while the runtime maintains state and feedback. Its three-layer architecture enables direct execution or delegation to Subagents, synchronously or asynchronously, under stable responsibilities. Through a shared application layer, humans and agents inspect and revise the same evolving documents, presentations, CAD models, and Blender scenes, so human-in-the-loop participation can enter both through conversation and through direct modification of the work itself. To sustain continuity across agents and sessions, CoworkOS further introduces hierarchical workspaces and persistent semantic memory, so working files, key decisions, and long-running Job logs remain shareable, reusable, and resumable after interruption. Across 12 benchmarks and 6 categories of real-world applications, CoworkOS proves highly competitive with frontier agent applications such as Codex and DeepSeek Harness. As a sustained-work case study, CoworkOS uses GLM-5.3 as its backbone to conduct RSI-driven automated post-training on Qwen3.6-35B-A3B. Over five rounds, the model's average score across eight benchmarks rose from 33.19 to 42.95 (+9.76). Looking ahead, we believe CoworkOS opens a meaningful path toward general cowork-agent intelligence.

Grounding Multimodal Reasoning with Evidence-Ablated Negatives

Chenxi Liu, Tianyi Xiong, Yanshuo Chen, Heng Huang

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has become a powerful tool for improving multimodal reasoning. However, standard outcome supervision suffers from credit assignment ambiguity, as a model may receive positive rewards by exploiting language priors or dataset shortcuts rather than grounding its reasoning in the requisite visual evidence. This makes high-quality negative responses critical, since effective negatives should remain plausible under the current policy while exposing the shortcut that should be suppressed. In this paper, we propose EVAN, a multimodal reinforcement learning framework utilizing EVidence-Ablated Negatives to train LMMs against their own language-prior failures. EVAN first identifies highly visually dependent examples using a scaled image information gain metric and preserves data diversity with a mixed-ranking strategy. It then constructs evidence-ablated images by masking the most discriminative image patches, eliciting plausible but visually ungrounded responses from the current policy. During policy optimization, these negative responses are incorporated as bounded auxiliary signals under the clean image, penalizing shortcut learning while maintaining RL stability. Experiments across challenging multimodal reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that EVAN mitigates modality imbalance and improves over strong RLVR baselines. Our code is available at https://github.com/DawnLIU35/EVAN.git.

Code2LoRA: Hypernetwork-Generated Adapters for Code Language Models under Software Evolution

Liliana Hotsko, Yinxi Li, Yuntian Deng, Pengyu Nie

Code language models need repository-level context to resolve imports, APIs, and project conventions. Existing methods inject this knowledge as long inputs (retrieved through RAG or dependency analysis) or through per-repository fine-tuning and LoRA---costly at repository scale and brittle to evolving codebases. We introduce Code2LoRA, a hypernetwork framework that generates repository-specific LoRA adapters, effectively injecting repository knowledge with zero inference-time token overhead. Code2LoRA supports two usage scenarios: Code2LoRA-Static converts a single repository snapshot into an adapter, suitable for comprehension of stable codebases; while Code2LoRA-Evo maintains an adapter backed by a GRU hidden state updated per code diff, suitable for active development of evolving codebases. To evaluate Code2LoRA against parameter-efficient fine-tuning baselines, we build RepoPeftBench, a benchmark of 604 Python repositories with two tracks: a static track with 40K training and 12K test assertion-completion tasks, and an evolution track with 215K commit-derived training and 87K commit-derived test tasks. On the static track, Code2LoRA-Static achieves 63.8% cross-repo and 66.2% in-repo exact match, matching the per-repository LoRA upper bound; on the evolution track, Code2LoRA-Evo achieves 60.3% cross-repo exact match (+5.2 pp over a single shared LoRA). Code2LoRA's code can be found at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/code2lora-6857; the model checkpoints and RepoPeftBench datasets can be found at https://huggingface.co/code2lora.

Lost in Translation: Investigating Systematic Discrepancies between Parallel English and Chinese Names of American Chinese Restaurants

Hang Jiang, Nanxi Liu, Tiantian Wang, Cassandra Overney, Rukun Zhang, Artemisia Luk, Diyi Yang, Deb Roy 等 9 位作者

Given that the Chinese are one of the oldest ethnic groups to immigrate to the US, their cuisine have become central to the US dining scene and an interesting avenue to study how Chinese immigrants have culturally adapted into American life. In that regard, previous research has focused on analyzing the English names that Chinese restaurants adopt, e.g., finding the use of familiar and typical words. To investigate how Chinese immigrants have culturally integrated in the US depending on social, geographic and demographic contexts, we investigate in this work the under-explored relationship between the Chinese and English names of American Chinese restaurants. Specifically, we conduct a study on 3,172 Chinese restaurants (10% of the total on Google Maps) sampled across the US. We present 8-dimension name frames to capture the underlying meanings behind names and create the NameFrames dataset containing 884 annotated parallel Chinese/English names. We also built an NLP pipeline to analyze the semantic discrepancies between names with both frame-based and embedding-based distance metrics. Our frame analysis shows that English names more often emphasize Location and Specialty, while Chinese names more often emphasize Positivity and Ambiance. Furthermore, we observe that for Chinese restaurants located in urban areas, those in counties with a higher concentration of Chinese population, or those that are relatively new, the discrepancies between the English and Chinese names are noticeably larger. Finally, interviews with 10 Chinese restaurant owners reveal additional interesting insights regarding naming conventions.

Toward Scalable Verifiable Reward: Proxy State-Based Evaluation for Multi-turn Tool-Calling LLM Agents

Yun-Shiuan Chuang, Chaitanya Kulkarni, Alec M. Chiu, Avinash Thangali, Zijie Pan, Shivani Shekhar, Yirou Ge, Yixi Li 等 11 位作者

Interactive large language model (LLM) agents operating via multi-turn dialogue and multi-step tool calling are increasingly used in production. Benchmarks for these agents must both reliably compare models and yield on-policy training data. Prior agentic benchmarks (e.g., tau-bench, tau^2-bench, AppWorld) rely on fully deterministic backends, which are costly to build and iterate. We propose Proxy State-Based Evaluation, an LLM-driven simulation framework that preserves final state-based evaluation without a deterministic database. Specifically, a scenario specifies the user goal, user/system facts, expected final state, and expected agent behavior, and an LLM state tracker infers a structured proxy state from the full interaction trace. LLM judges then verify goal completion and detect tool/user hallucinations against scenario constraints. Empirically, our benchmark produces stable, model-differentiating rankings across families and inference-time reasoning efforts, and its on- and off-policy rollouts provide supervision that transfers to unseen scenarios. Careful scenario specification yields near-zero simulator hallucination rates, as supported by ablation studies. The framework also supports sensitivity analyses over user personas. Human-LLM judge agreement exceeds 90%, indicating reliable automated evaluation. Overall, proxy state-based evaluation offers a practical, scalable alternative to deterministic agentic benchmarks for industrial LLM agents.

Ada-RS: Adaptive Rejection Sampling for Selective Thinking

Yirou Ge, Yixi Li, Alec M. Chiu, Shivani Shekhar, Zijie Pan, Avinash Thangali, Yun-Shiuan Chuang, Chaitanya Kulkarni 等 11 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly being deployed in cost- and latency-sensitive settings. While chain-of-thought improves reasoning, it can waste tokens on simple requests. We study selective thinking for tool-using LLMs and introduce Adaptive Rejection Sampling (Ada-RS), an algorithm-agnostic sample filtering framework for learning selective and efficient reasoning. For each given context, Ada-RS scores multiple sampled completions with an adaptive length-penalized reward then applies stochastic rejection sampling to retain only high-reward candidates (or preference pairs) for downstream optimization. We demonstrate how Ada-RS plugs into both preference pair (e.g. DPO) or grouped policy optimization strategies (e.g. DAPO). Using Qwen3-8B with LoRA on a synthetic tool call-oriented e-commerce benchmark, Ada-RS improves the accuracy-efficiency frontier over standard algorithms by reducing average output tokens by up to ∼80% and reducing thinking rate by up to ∼95% while maintaining or improving tool call accuracy. We further demonstrate that these gains generalize across model scales (Qwen3-1.7B, 8B, 14B) and domains (τ 2-Bench airline and telecom). These results highlight that training signal selection is a powerful lever for efficient reasoning in latency-sensitive deployments.

From Data-Centric to Sample-Centric: Enhancing LLM Reasoning via Progressive Optimization

Xinjie Chen, Minpeng Liao, Guoxin Chen, Chengxi Li Alibaba Group, Biao Fu, Kai Fan Alibaba Group, Xinggao Liu

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has recently advanced the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). We investigate RLVR from a sample-centric perspective and introduce LPPO (Learning-Progress and Prefix-guided Optimization), a framework of progressive optimization techniques. Our work addresses a critical question: how to best leverage a small set of trusted, high-quality demonstrations, rather than simply scaling up data volume. First, motivated by how hints aid human problem-solving, we propose prefix-guided sampling, an online data augmentation method that incorporates partial solution prefixes from expert demonstrations to guide the policy, particularly for challenging instances. Second, inspired by how humans focus on important questions aligned with their current capabilities, we introduce learning-progress weighting, a dynamic strategy that adjusts each training sample’s influence based on model progression. We estimate sample-level learning progress via an exponential moving average of per-sample pass rates, promoting samples that foster learning and de-emphasizing stagnant ones. Experiments on mathematical-reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that our methods outperform strong baselines, yielding faster convergence and a higher performance ceiling, with these gains proving robust across diverse model architectures, scales, and reinforcement learning optimizers.

BrowseComp-Plus: A Fair and Disentangled Evaluation Benchmark for Deep Search Agents

Zijian Chen University of Waterloo, Xueguang Ma, Shengyao Zhuang, Ping Nie, Kai Zou NetMind.AI and Protagolabs Inc, Sahel Sharifymoghaddam University of Waterloo, Andrew Liu, Joshua Green 等 21 位作者

Deep search agents that combine large language models with retrieval tools excel at complex, multi-hop queries. Yet, existing benchmarks such as BrowseComp rely on black-box web search APIs, facing key limitations. (1) Fairness: for agents, dynamic and opaque web APIs hinder reproducibility and fair comparisons across agents. (2) Disentanglement: for retrieval, the lack of a fixed document corpus makes it impossible to isolate retriever contributions from end-to-end search agent accuracy. We introduce BrowseComp-Plus, a benchmark derived from BrowseComp that employs a fixed, human-verified corpus, enabling controlled retrieval for deep search agents. BrowseComp-Plus clearly distinguishes agent performance: with a BM25 retriever, the open-source Search-R1 achieves 3.86% accuracy, while GPT-5 achieves 55.9%. Additionally, BrowseComp-Plus makes retrieval gains explicit: pairing GPT-5 with Qwen3-Embedding-8B retriever further improves accuracy to 70.1% while reducing search calls. Overall, BrowseComp-Plus provides a fair and disentangled testbed, advancing both deep search agent evaluation and retrieval research for agentic search. SAFO: Stable Adaptive Fairness Optimization for LLM-Based Social Survey Simulation

Chenxi Lin, Zhuoren Jiang Zhejiang University, Kaisong Song, Yiquan Wu Zhejiang University

Ensuring fairness in social survey simulation is critical, as biased outputs can misrepresent underrepresented groups. This issue is growing as large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used for this task. However, standard fine-tuning based on Empirical Risk Minimization (ERM) often under-optimizes minority groups, causing substantial subgroup disparities. Distributionally robust Optimization (DRO) methods reduce worst-case errors, but their strict worst-case selection can lead to noisy and unstable optimization under demographic sparsity. These issues create intertwined challenges for fairness, convergence and stability. We propose SAFO, a dynamic utility–fairness optimization framework for LLM-based survey simulation that explicitly targets both fairness and training stability. SAFO combines (i) an Optimizer that preserves mean-loss utility, (ii) an Adversary that performs temperature-controlled, EMA-smoothed and loss-driven group reweighting, and (iii) a Nash-inspired Regulator that adaptively adjusts the utility–fairness trade-off by tracking weak-group gains and collateral utility damages. Experiments on three large-scale survey datasets from China, the U.S., and Europe show that SAFO consistently improves minority performance and social-welfare metrics. It reduces worst-group gaps by up to 12.7%, maintains overall accuracy with a mean change of less than 0.3% and lowers variance across random seeds. Our code is available at https://github.com/PiLab-ZJU/SAFO.

Think How to Think: Mitigating Overthinking with Autonomous Difficulty Cognition in Large Reasoning Models

Yongjiang Liu, Haoxi Li The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Xiaosong Ma Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jie Zhang Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Song Guo Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Recent Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) excel at complex reasoning tasks but often suffer from overthinking, generating overly long and redundant reasoning trajectories. To explore its essence, our empirical analysis reveals that LRMs are primarily limited to recognizing task properties (i.e., difficulty levels) like humans before solving the problem, leading to a one-size-fits-all reasoning strategy. This observation motivates a fundamental question: Can we explicitly bootstrap such ability to alleviate overthinking in LRMs? To this end, we propose Think-How-to-Think (TH2T), a novel two-stage fine-tuning strategy that progressively inspires LRMs’ difficulty cognition and redundancy cognition of LRMs. Specifically, we first inject Difficulty Dypnosis into output prefixes as cues for global, prospective reasoning strategy selection, stimulating the model’s sharper sensitivity to task complexity and adaptive control of reasoning depth. Then, we incorporate Redundancy Hypnosis into in-progress reasoning steps, which serve as local, retrospective signals for behavior correction by identifying and eliminating superfluous reasoning detours. Experiments across 7B/14B/32B models demonstrate that TH2T significantly reduces inference costs by over 70% on easy tasks and 40% on complex ones without compromising performance. The resultant models exhibit a nascent ability for difficulty-aware reasoning, effectively mitigating behaviors like excessive reflection and looping, thereby paving the way for more cognitively efficient LRMs.

EmoS: A High-Fidelity Multimodal Benchmark for Fine-grained Streaming Emotional Understanding

Pengze Guo, Jingxi Liang University of Macau, Zhiwen Xie Central China Normal University, Qifeng Wang, Derek F. Wong University of Macau

In the context of today’s high-pressure, aging society, the demand for large-scale emotional models capable of providing empathetic support is more critical than ever. However, existing benchmarks fail to simultaneously achieve ecological validity, signal clarity, and reliable fine-grained labeling. We introduce EmoS, a high-fidelity bilingual benchmark designed to resolve the limitations of ecological validity and noise in existing datasets by combining strictly filtered static slices with a dynamic Streaming Monologue subset. Supported by a rigorous dual-layer human annotation pipeline, EmoS provides trusted ground truth that captures continuous emotional evolution. Empirical results show that fine-tuning MLLMs (multimodal large language models) on EmoS yields significant gains over zero-shot baselines, laying the foundation for the training and evaluation of future emotion recognition models and empathy models. The dataset and code are publicly available at https://github.com/NLP2CT/EmoS.

Mind Reader: Latent User Demand-Guided Content Optimization for Generative Search Engine

Tong Chen Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, JiaWei Guo, Yuxi Li Beihang University, Baiming Chen Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Houxing Ren Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhang Zhiwei, Yunxiang Zhang, Hanyang Xia Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics 等 10 位作者

Generative Search Engines (GSEs) have reshaped information retrieval, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) emerges to improve the content visibility in GSEs’ responses. Previous methods mainly rely on empirical strategies or query-dependent preferences of GSEs for content optimization. However, they remain limited in effectiveness as they overlook the latent user search demands in queries that drive content retrieval and response generation of GSEs. To address this, we propose Mind Reader, a novel GEO method to effectively improve the content visibility within the generated responses of GSEs through content optimization guided by the extracted latent demands of user search. Specifically, we propose a decomposition-recombination query augmentation module, which enriches the query with latent semantic information by decomposing it into diverse perspectives, capturing underlying semantic information, and recombining them into variants to support subsequent optimization. Then, we propose a reasoning coverage content optimization module. By optimizing content to cover critical reasoning information of GSEs, we align the content with the user search demands, effectively improving the content visibility. Extensive experiments on widely used GEO-Bench and our proposed PC-GEO show that our method significantly outperforms baselines and effectively improves content visibility (with up to 2.44x objective metrics and 1.23x subjective metrics on average).

ParaSuite: Boosting LLM Reasoning via Paradox Resolution

Bin Chen Zhejiang Lab, Zhejiang Lab, Yu Zhang, Hongfei Ye, Huiyang Wang, Wenxi Liu University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hongyang Chen Zhejiang Lab, China

Logical reasoning is a key capability of large language models, yet current benchmarks focus almost entirely on tasks that just check basic logical consistency and overlook the reflective reasoning required for paradox detection and resolution. To fill the gap, we present ParaSuite, the first pipeline dedicated to paradox research that automates data synthesis, evaluation, and training. We introduce PARADOX, a synthetic, high-quality data spanning two difficulty tiers and three academic domains, accompanied by specialized evaluation metrics and solving algorithms. We propose ParadoxBreaker-7B, trained with Mutual-Information Guided Fine-Tuning and reinforcement learning step verify paradox reward(PAPO). Experiments demonstrate significant improvements in both paradoxical and general STEM reasoning.

AIPO: Adaptive Information Guided Token-Level Reinforcement Learning for Large Language Model Reasoning

Bin Chen Zhejiang Lab, Zhejiang Lab, Hongfei Ye, Huiyang Wang, Wenxi Liu University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yu Zhang, Furui Liu Zhejiang Lab & UCAS & Zhejiang University

Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) improves the reasoning capability of Large Language Models (LLMs). Current RLVR trains LLMs on all generated tokens, rather than exploring which tokens actually contribute to reasoning. We propose AIPO(Adaptive–Information Policy Optimization), which focuses updates on those decisive tokens discovered on the fly. AIPO estimates each hidden state’s mutual information to score tokens. Policy gradients are then computed only on these critical tokens, using an advantage that blends information gain and verifiable correctness. To improve the efficiency of mutual-information estimation, AIPO adopts a Random–Fourier approximation of the Hilbert–Schmidt Independence Criterion. Across five math and science benchmarks, AIPO yields up to +20% accuracy over strong RLVR baselines while updating merely 10% of tokens, demonstrating superior efficiency and effectiveness. Our findings highlight the importance of information–driven token selection for efficient and effective reinforcement learning of LLM reasoning.

TokDrift: When LLM Speaks in Subwords but Code Speaks in Grammar

Yinxi Li, Yuntian Deng University of Waterloo, Pengyu Nie University of Waterloo

Large language models (LLMs) for code rely on subword tokenizers, such as byte-pair encoding (BPE), learned from mixed natural language text and programming language code but driven by statistics rather than grammar. As a result, semantically identical code snippets can be tokenized differently depending on superficial factors such as whitespace or identifier naming. To measure the impact of this misalignment, we introduce TokDrift, a framework that applies semantic-preserving rewrite rules to create code variants differing only in tokenization. Across nine code LLMs, including large ones with over 30B parameters, even minor formatting changes can cause substantial shifts in model behavior. Layer-wise analysis shows that the issue originates in early embeddings, where subword segmentation fails to capture grammar token boundaries. Our findings identify misaligned tokenization as a hidden obstacle to reliable code understanding and generation, highlighting the need for grammar-aware tokenization for future code LLMs.

ACIArena: Toward Unified Evaluation for Agent Cascading Injection

Hengyu An Zhejiang University, Minxi Li, Jinghuai Zhang University of California, Los Angeles, Naen Xu Zhejiang University, Chunyi Zhou, Changjiang Li Palo Alto Networks, Xiaogang Xu The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tianyu Du Zhejiang University 等 9 位作者

Collaboration and information sharing empower Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) but also introduce a critical security risk known as Agent Cascading Injection (ACI). In such attacks, a compromised agent exploits inter-agent trust to propagate malicious instructions, causing cascading failures across the system. However, existing studies consider only limited attack strategies and simplified MAS settings, limiting their generalizability and comprehensive evaluation. To bridge this gap, we introduce ACIArena, a unified framework for evaluating the robustness of MAS. ACIArena offers systematic evaluation suites spanning multiple attack surfaces (i.e., external inputs, agent profiles, inter-agent messages) and attack objectives (i.e., instruction hijacking, task disruption, information exfiltration). Specifically, ACIArena establishes a unified specification that jointly supports MAS construction and attack–defense modules. It covers six widely used MAS implementations and provides a benchmark of 1,356 test cases for systematically evaluating MAS robustness. Our benchmarking results show that evaluating MAS robustness solely through topology is insufficient; robust MAS require deliberate role design and controlled interaction patterns. Moreover, defenses developed in simplified environments often fail to transfer to real-world settings; narrowly scoped defenses may even introduce new vulnerabilities. ACIArena aims to provide a solid foundation for advancing deeper exploration of MAS design principles.

MeanAudio: Fast and Faithful Text-to-Audio Generation with Mean Flows

Xiquan Li, Junxi Liu, Yuzhe Liang Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhikang Niu, Wenxi Chen, Xie Chen

Recent years have witnessed remarkable progress in Text-to-Audio Generation (TTA), providing sound creators with powerful tools to transform inspirations into vivid audio. Yet despite these advances, current TTA systems often suffer from slow inference speed, which greatly hinders the efficiency and smoothness of audio creation. In this paper, we present MeanAudio, a fast and faithful text-to-audio generator capable of rendering realistic sound with only one function evaluation (1-NFE). MeanAudio leverages: (i) the MeanFlow objective with guided velocity target that significantly accelerates inference speed, (ii) an enhanced Flux-style transformer with dual text encoders for better semantic alignment and synthesis quality, and (iii) an efficient instantaneous-to-mean curriculum that speeds up convergence and enables training on consumer-grade GPUs. Through a comprehensive evaluation study, we demonstrate that MeanAudio achieves state-of-the-art performance in single-step audio generation. Specifically, it achieves a real-time factor (RTF) of 0.013 on a single NVIDIA RTX 3090, yielding a 100x speedup over SOTA diffusion-based TTA systems. Moreover, MeanAudio also shows strong performance in multi-step generation, enabling smooth transitions across successive synthesis steps.

On the Continued Value of Universal Dependencies in the Era of Large Language Models

Wenxi Li Minzu University of China, Jingyu Peng

The necessity of explicit linguistic representations has been increasingly questioned in the era of large language models (LLMs). In this work, we revisit this issue using Universal Dependencies (UD) as a case study, examining whether and in what ways this cross-lingual syntactic framework can still benefit contemporary LLMs. We focus on a cross-lingual adversarial paraphrase identification task that is designed to foreground the role of syntactic structure in semantic interpretation across languages. Within this setting, we systematically evaluate three strategies for integrating UD into LLMs: UD-Prompt, UD-Tuning, and UD-Attention. Our experiments show that, although the magnitude of gains depends on how UD-based structural priors interact with model behavior and cross-lingual variation, UD-augmented models consistently outperform their syntax-agnostic counterparts. Across strategies, we observe average accuracy improvements of 2.67%, 8.24%, and 2.53%, respectively. These findings demonstrate that linguistic knowledge remains informative for LLMs, offering practical value in cross-lingual settings where structural alignment is challenging.

Deep-Research agents, which integrate large language models (LLMs) with search tools, have shown success in improving the effectiveness of handling complex queries that require iterative search planning and reasoning over search results. Evaluations on current benchmarks like BrowseComp relies on black-box live web search APIs, have notable limitations in (1) fairness: dynamic and opaque web APIs hinder fair comparisons and reproducibility of deep research methods; (2) transparency: lack of control over the document corpus makes it difficult to isolate retriever contributions. In other words, the current evaluations may compare a complete deep research system at a given time, but they do not foster well-controlled experiments to provide insights into the capability of underlying deep research LLMs. To address these challenges, we introduce BrowseComp-Plus, a benchmark derived from BrowseComp, employing a fixed, carefully curated corpus. Each query in BrowseComp-Plus includes human-verified supporting documents and mined challenging negatives, enabling controlled experimentation. The benchmark is shown to be effective in distinguishing the performance of deep research systems. For instance, the open-source model Search-R1, when paired with the BM25 retriever, achieves 3.86% accuracy, whereas the GPT-5 achieves 55.9%. Integrating the GPT-5 with the Qwen3-Embedding-8B retriever further enhances its accuracy to 70.1% with fewer search calls. This benchmark allows comprehensive evaluation and disentangled analysis of deep research agents and retrieval methods, fostering insights into retrieval effectiveness, citation accuracy, and context engineering in Deep-Research system.

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.
