Multistatic ISAC with Deep Learning-Based Clutter Suppression for 5G and Beyond

AI 速览:该论文提出一种多基地ISAC框架,利用残差与注意力增强的深度神经网络从杂波污染观测中直接增强目标响应,以提升目标位置与速度估计的鲁棒性。

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) systems using 5G and beyond signals of opportunity enable joint wireless sensing and communication using shared infrastructure and spectrum resources. While multistatic ISAC can increase sensing coverage with spatially distributed receivers, dense and dynamic clutter can significantly degrade bistatic range and Doppler estimation, leading to errors in target localization and velocity estimation. This paper presents a multistatic ISAC framework with clutter suppression for high-fidelity estimation of target position and velocity. Distributed clutter is modeled with randomly located scatterers with varying Doppler spreads and radar cross sections to capture dense and dynamic clutter effects. A broad range of conventional signal processing baselines are evaluated for clutter suppression, showing limited robustness under strong clutter conditions. To address this limitation, deep learning-based clutter suppression methods are introduced to improve robustness against dense and dynamic clutter by employing residual and attention-enhanced deep neural network architectures that directly enhance target responses from clutter-contaminated observations. These methods substantially outperform conventional approaches in target position and velocity estimation across diverse clutter conditions in multistatic ISAC.

Research project 6G NeXt is considering true 3D holography as a use case, setting requirements on the communication as well as the computing infrastructure. In a future holographic communication service, clients are widely spread in the network and cooperatively interact with each other. Especially for holographic communication high processing power is required as well. This makes a high-speed distributed backbone computing infrastructure, which realizes the concept of split computing, inevitable. Furthermore, tight integration between processing facilities and wireless networks is required in order to provide an immersive user experience. This paper illustrates true 3D holographic communication and its requirements. Afterward, an appropriate solution approach is elaborated. Here, novel technological approaches are discussed based on a proposed overall communication and computing architecture.

DYNAS: A Dynamic Network Penetration Testing Framework Using Deep Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning

Md. Rakibul Hassan, Majedul Islam, Md. Ashraful Alam, Muhammad Iqbal Hossain, Swakkhar Shatabda

As network scale and uncertainty complicate automated penetration testing, reinforcement learning (RL) environments must support controlled evaluation under defensive and non-stationary conditions. We present DYNAS (Dynamic Network Attack Simulator), which combines parameterized large-scale scenario generation with stateful intrusion detection responses, explicit scan false-positive and false-negative noise, temporary service unavailability, and duration-based action timeouts. We further introduce Pen-DHRL, a recurrent manager--worker policy that selects persistent subgoals using IDS-conditioned global context. We compare Pen-DHRL with GNN, Invariant, and Attention baselines across four scenario variants and multiple training regimes. Under IDS-disabled training followed by IDS-enabled evaluation, Pen-DHRL obtains approximately 64\% and 24\% higher reward per step on Bridge and Dynamic, respectively, and approximately 26\% and 30\% more captured hosts on VarA and VarB than the next-best baseline. With all defensive dynamics active from the beginning of training, Pen-DHRL achieves positive mean episode returns in all four scenarios, whereas the flat baselines produce negative mean returns in all 12 architecture--scenario combinations; staged curriculum training produces positive mean returns across all 16 evaluated combinations.

FedMaJ: Ordinal Meta-Aggregation for Federated Learning Using Majority-Judgment Voting

Driss Choukri, Essaid Sabir, Halima Elbiaze, Abdelkrim Haqiq

Federated learning traditionally relies on a fixed aggregation rule despite shifting client state and wireless dynamics. We present FedMaJ, a framework that dynamically selects aggregation rules via Majority Judgment voting. During voting rounds, clients evaluate candidate models across performance, resource utilization, channel condition, and fairness metrics. The server adopts the majority-preferred rule and retains it until the next vote, scheduled dynamically based on accuracy trends. Evaluated in over-the-air federated learning with explicit energy and resource cost modeling, synthetic and Fashion-MNIST experiments show that FedMaJ achieves competitive learning performance and superior aggregation-influence fairness. Under extreme-evaluation perturbations, Majority Judgment yields significantly more stable rule selections than mean-based scoring, establishing ordinal voting as a robust control layer for adaptive aggregation.

Device-Induced Mobility Heterogeneity and Its Impact on Federated Next-Location Prediction

André Felipe Zanella, Paula Delgado de Santos, José Suárez-Varela, David Solans Noguero, Andra Lutu, Jesus Omaña-Iglesias

Predicting human mobility is central to network management, urban planning, and location-based services, yet privacy concerns are increasingly pushing such tasks toward federated learning. A key challenge in this setting is the strong heterogeneity of mobility data across users, which leads to non-IID data distributions and can significantly impact model performance and fairness. In this paper, we present a large-scale measurement study of device-level mobility heterogeneity using data from a major MNO in a dense European capital. Our dataset comprises mobility traces derived from network events, covering over 50,000 UEs across 178 smartphone models. We group devices into tiers based on their market segment and show that mobility characteristics, such as spatial range and regularity, vary systematically across these tiers, revealing a previously underexplored source of bias in mobility data. We investigate the implications of this heterogeneity on the use case of federated next-location prediction. In particular, we find that balancing device tiers across silos through tier-aware client selection yields the best results, improving fairness by up to 34.49% without degrading accuracy. In contrast, a FedProx-only approach achieves a 21.46% fairness improvement, offering a reasonable alternative when device information is unavailable, though with lower overall gains.

STEPS: Semantic Contract-Guided Scheduling for LLM-Assisted Natural Language-Driven Edge AI Services

Houyi Qi, Minghui Liwang, Xianbin Wang, Xinlei Yi, Seyyedali Hosseinalipour

Edge user/service scheduling governs where and how AI services are executed under limited communication and computing resources. Existing edge scheduling frameworks typically assume numerically specified service requirements, such as latency bounds and energy budgets. However, users often express ambiguous and context-dependent expectations in natural language, creating a gap between user intent and scheduling decisions. We propose semantic contract-guided edge potential scheduling (STEPS), a natural language-driven framework that introduces semantic contracts as executable interfaces between user-side semantics and edge-side decisions. A large language model (LLM)-assisted semantic parser extracts service requirements and raw confidence scores from natural language requests. Confidence calibration and interpretable mapping rules convert these outputs into preference weights, fulfillment bounds, and semantic uncertainty. STEPS formulates intended per-slot edge scheduling as an exact potential game for execution-node selection, computing-resource provisioning, and bandwidth allocation, followed by capacity-feasible resource realization. Fulfillment-driven feedback signals enable adaptive scheduling under evolving service and network conditions. We establish the existence of pure-strategy Nash equilibrium, prove finite-step convergence of uncapped strict best-response dynamics, and characterize the boundedness of projected adaptive-control parameters. Experiments under synthetic and Melbourne-based hybrid settings demonstrate improved contract fulfillment and reduced service loss relative to several adapted benchmarks. Post-drift evaluations further show that feedback adaptation improves fulfillment and admission coverage under the tested conditions.

Federated Agentic AI for Interference-Aware Adaptive Spectrum Coordination

Tomer Baziza Paz, Yaniv Cohen, Kobi Cohen

Emerging intelligent wireless networks increasingly rely on autonomous AI agents to adapt spectrum usage to dynamic and heterogeneous operating conditions. However, collective learning is challenging when agents experience different local interference environments and cannot exchange raw observations due to communication-overhead and privacy constraints. We propose Federated Agentic Spectrum Coordination with Interference Awareness (FASCIA), a federated multi-agent deep reinforcement learning framework for adaptive spectrum coordination. In FASCIA, each network manager acts as an autonomous AI agent that perceives its local interference environment, accumulates experience in a persistent local memory, and learns an adaptive spectrum coordination policy through local interactions. Coordination among agents is achieved through periodic federated aggregation of locally trained models, without exchanging raw sensing data or experience. Since spectrum decisions made by one agent alter the environments observed by others, local learning is inherently heterogeneous and coupled. FASCIA employs proximal regularization to mitigate the resulting model drift and explicitly accounts for inter-carrier interference arising from partially overlapping channels. FASCIA is the first federated agentic AI framework to address this challenging interference-coupled spectrum coordination setting. Extensive simulations demonstrate that FASCIA achieves performance close to the centralized benchmark while avoiding raw-experience exchange and maintaining effectiveness across heterogeneous network configurations.

Chimera: Neuro-Symbolic Attention Primitives for Trustworthy Dataplane Intelligence

Rong Fu, Xiaowen Ma, Kun Liu, Wangyu Wu, Ziyu Kong, Jia Yee Tan, Tailong Luo, Xianda Li 等 10 位作者

Deploying expressive learning models directly on programmable dataplanes promises line-rate, low-latency traffic analysis but remains hindered by strict hardware constraints and the need for predictable, auditable behavior. Chimera introduces a principled framework that maps attention-oriented neural computations and symbolic constraints onto dataplane primitives, enabling trustworthy inference within the match-action pipeline. Chimera combines a kernelized, linearized attention approximation with a two-layer key-selection hierarchy and a cascade fusion mechanism that enforces hard symbolic guarantees while preserving neural expressivity. The design includes a hardware-aware mapping protocol and a two-timescale update scheme that together permit stable, line-rate operation under realistic dataplane budgets. The paper presents the Chimera architecture, a hardware mapping strategy, and empirical evidence showing that neuro-symbolic attention primitives can achieve high-fidelity inference within the resource envelope of commodity programmable switches.

Improving Energy Efficiency of Uplink RSMA via Rydberg Atomic Quantum Receiver

Xinya Shen, Zheng Chu, David Chieng, Chiew Foong Kwong, Qihao Peng, Zhengyu Zhu, Pei Xiao, Jianyue Zhu

This paper investigates an uplink rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) network empowered by a Rydberg atomic quantum receiver (RAQR) to maximize energy efficiency (EE). To overcome the amplitude-only measurement limitation of the considered direct readout RAQR, we devise a phase alignment mechanism that linearizes the received signal while retaining full channel energy, thereby enabling tractable optimization. The resulting non-convex fractional EE problem is transformed via Dinkelbach's method. For IoT scenarios with symmetric rate requirements, we derive exact closed-form power allocation from the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, which yields a globally optimal bisection search with negligible computational latency. For asymmetric rate requirements, we develop a generalized block coordinate descent-based power allocation (BCD-PA) framework that eliminates reliance on expensive interior-point solvers. We further propose a low-complexity paired allocation (LC-Paired) that exploits user pairing and closed-form bandwidth solutions via the Lambert-W function. Simulation results confirm that the KKT-based scheme attains the highest EE, while the BCD-PA offers a flexible complexity-performance trade-off. The LC-Paired scheme drastically reduces computational cost with only moderate EE degradation.

Quantifying the Relay-Coverage Trade-off in Mobile Multihop Flooding

Johannes F. Loevenich, Thies Möhlenhof, Roberto Rigolin F. Lopes

Network-wide flooding in mobile multihop networks selects relays from locally maintained topology information. Mobility makes this information outdated, leaving two basic responses: add redundant relays or refresh the topology and re-select relays more frequently. How these mechanisms trade reliability for overhead, however, is not well quantified. We quantify this trade-off on a public trace of 157 vehicles using Optimized Link State Routing version 2 (OLSRv2) and exact minimum-cost relay sets. Twofold coverage increases median relay-cover lifetime by only 2.3x, rather than about an order of magnitude as predicted by an independent-hazard model. The limitation is structural: 43.6 % of two-hop neighbours have only one possible relay, and newly appearing neighbours invalidate existing covers. Moreover, the delivery gain of a second relay falls from 0.061 to 0.016 when relay selection uses instantaneous link state, showing that redundancy mainly compensates for outdated topology information. Relay coverage and topology refresh therefore form a measurable redundancy-freshness trade-off rather than independent robustness mechanisms. In our trace, twofold coverage has lower overhead below about 100 bit/s of application flooding per node, whereas fresher topology information has lower overhead above it. This makes relay redundancy a load-dependent design choice rather than a fixed heuristic robustness setting.

SeQUeNCe.DQC: Full-stack Simulation of Distributed Quantum Computing

Sanjay Suresh, Caitao Zhan, Joaquin Chung, Rajkumar Kettimuthu

Distributed quantum computing (DQC) connects multiple quantum processing units to overcome the scale limits of monolithic hardware. We introduce SeQUeNCe.DQC, a new top-level module within the SeQUeNCe package that compiles monolithic circuits into topology-aware execution plans and coordinates their execution using SeQUeNCe's existing quantum-network modules and protocols. We validate SeQUeNCe.DQC by reproducing a two-node trapped-ion Grover experiment in simulation and comparing success probabilities with the reported 71% benchmark. We then evaluate how compiler strategy, topology, and memory capacity jointly govern distributed circuit execution time and success rate. In these experiments, our hybrid compilers successfully identified mixed TeleGate/TeleData execution plans that outperformed pure gate-teleportation strategies. By capturing the physical overhead of distributed quantum primitives, SeQUeNCe.DQC provides a rigorous platform for co-designing DQC software and hardware architectures.

CoraLive: Ultra-Low-Power Underwater Vision for Long-term Coral Reef Monitoring

Sitong Shen, Chenshu Wu

Effective coral reef protection and restoration demands continuous, long-term underwater monitoring. However, current solutions largely rely on fragmented, manual labor and costly infrastructure, or are severely limited by constrained battery lifespans. In this paper, we present CoraLive, an ultra-low-power underwater camera system for long-term, continuous coral reef monitoring. CoraLive presents a decoupled underwater-shore co-design that minimizes on-board computation and storage, offloading heavy reconstruction and segmentation tasks to offline shore-side processing. To achieve this, CoraLive introduces a dual-rate sensing scheme combining frequent low-resolution frames with sparse high-fidelity samples and a content-adaptive update mechanism that extracts and stores only compact, task-specific data, eliminating the need to save raw video frames. We implement CoraLive on a custom STM32U575-based dual-camera prototype with device-level computation and storage optimization. Compared with raw recording, CoraLive reduces daily storage by $4.51\times$ and average power by $7.78\times$, extending battery lifetime from 20.4 to 159.5~days while retaining high-accuracy segmentation and reconstruction. Further validated in a real-world underwater deployment, we envision CoraLive as a pioneering step for ubiquitous long-term coral reef underwater monitoring.

Trigger Timing, Deadline Readiness, and Event-Aligned Accounting for Dynamic Ad Insertion

Prashant Chaudhary, Kapil Khandelwal

An ad break in a live stream is a hard deadline. Once a cue arrives, the ad path has seconds to produce a state the player can use, and starting that work earlier buys time while giving the prepared state longer to expire before the break. Comparing trigger policies means scoring which of these happened; the records easiest to collect do not. We separate trigger, reach, readiness, playback, billability and measurement in an observed-event ledger, fix the reference-deadline rule before candidates are assigned, and account for contribution over every planned break-session pair, reached or not. Readiness means the declared state is valid at that deadline. We prove when scoring completion by the deadline instead reverses a policy comparison: for monotone playback with a shared latency law, a fixed state lifetime and common coefficients, the reversal occurs when the earlier policy's extra trigger cost falls between its validity gain and its completion gain. A synthetic study of 45,000 scripted sessions matches this condition on monotone paths, a check of its generator, and, outside its assumptions, finds the same reversal in mixtures with restarts, seeks, late joins and pauses. Playhead summaries misclassify up to 41% of reach indicators yet reverse no comparison in the study: maximum-position errors cancel exactly, and terminal-position errors change only magnitudes. Completion scoring reverses the comparison in three of nine short-lifetime conditions, all at the one latency setting where the proved condition holds. The evidence is synthetic by design; code, seeds and event histories are public.

Agentic LinkDreamer: Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy World-Model Decision Making for Intermittent V2X Cooperative Perception

Zhaoyu Liu, Dongmin Wang, Liu Cao, Jijing Cai, Kai Fang, Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed, Almetwally M. Mostafa

Intermittent vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication can remove collaborator information needed for cooperative perception, degrading object detection during link outages. Existing recovery methods reconstruct missing features but rarely determine when to trust predictions, reuse historical observations, or request fresh information. This paper proposes Agentic LinkDreamer, a soft-computing framework integrating a latent world model with an interpretable neuro-fuzzy decision agent. It maintains causal collaborator memory and uses a relative-motion-conditioned recurrent world model to predict unavailable bird's-eye-view (BEV) features. Prediction uncertainty, perceptual complementarity, memory freshness, communication quality, and residual communication budget form a compact decision state. A differentiable Takagi-Sugeno controller selects among five modes: ego-only perception, motion-compensated historical feature reuse, latent imagination, low-rate temporal-summary refresh, and high-rate collaborator-feature refresh. The policy balances detection risk, communication overhead, latency, predictive uncertainty, and action switching. After link recovery, reflection compares predicted and received features to update uncertainty calibration and causal memory. For reproducible evaluation without assuming unavailable physical-layer traces, we construct a geometry-derived V2X degradation protocol using recorded trajectories and LiDAR-derived scene geometry from V2X-Real. On the real-world V2X-Real V2V split, Agentic LinkDreamer achieves 90.95 AP@0.5 on outage frames and recovers 92.9% of the cooperative-perception performance gap. At a high-performance operating point, it remains only 0.65 AP below the cooperative upper reference while reducing communication volume by approximately 31% relative to continuous high-rate cooperation. This improves resilience under V2X outages.

Do Open-Source Video Ad Clients Follow VAST 4.3? An Empirical Study of Player Conformance

Prashant Chaudhary

Context. Video ads reach streaming and connected-TV apps through VAST documents, and companies count ads from the HTTP requests the player's client library sends. A tracking error can leave playback intact and surface later as disagreeing counts. Objective. To measure how far open-source VAST clients meet the player duties of VAST 4.3, whether verdicts depend on the runtime, what generated inputs add, and when deviations were introduced. Method. A catalog of 108 requirements was extracted from the specification. Six open-source clients in eight configurations ran against 69 crafted test vectors and the IAB's sample tags, under Node.js and in five browsers on three engines, with every request recorded. Grids, fuzzing and a sweep over 36 releases extend the catalog; Google's closed IMA SDK is a comparison. Results. The open-source clients have 78 findings and 3 to 21 must-level deviations per configuration. None of the tested open-source clients that follow redirect (Wrapper) chains fills the required macros in a Wrapper's request; the archived IMA 3.794.0 configuration tested does. One library's timeout throws an exception no caller can catch, ending a Node.js process. In a pod (ads played back to back), one player credits a finishing ad's completion to the next ad, fixed in release 5.3.0. A library can conform under jsdom and deviate in every tested Chrome- and Safari-family browser. Conclusions. The tested clients diverge on the duties other companies use to count and diagnose ads. A shared conformance suite run in real browsers could expose most graded deviations; the harness and vectors are released.

MIRAGE: A GPU-Accelerated IQ-Level Channel Emulator for Real-Time Wireless Digital Twins

Ali Saeizadeh, Angelo Feraudo, Avaneeth Anil, Leonardo Bonati, Pedram Johari, Tommaso Melodia

Wireless digital twins enable network policies to be evaluated before deployment, but reproducing channel effects within a running protocol stack requires continuous waveform processing under strict timing constraints. We present MIRAGE, a GPU-accelerated channel emulator that applies propagation effects directly to in-phase and quadrature samples exchanged by software 5G New Radio stacks. MIRAGE combines batched multiuser, multiantenna filtering with timestamped shared-memory transport and radio-driver integrations for OpenAirInterface and OCUDU. External propagation models supply channel responses asynchronously, while versioned buffers ensure consistent coefficients within each processing interval. Experiments on one NVIDIA H100 GPU evaluate waveform accuracy, processing time, channel updates, and full-stack traffic delivery. At 61.44 million samples per second, eight single-antenna links, four two-by-two links, and one four-by-four link meet the tested 0.5 ms bidirectional processing criterion. Waveform errors remain within one integer quantization step per component, with no mixed coefficient versions across 16.7 million analyzed slots. Integration with the X5G testbed enables slice resource allocations to be evaluated before deployment. Both evaluated slices ultimately satisfy their throughput caps, requiring one physical reconfiguration under line-of-sight conditions and four under non-line-of-sight conditions. These results demonstrate full-stack policy evaluation and expose prediction errors affecting transfer to a physical network.

Delay and Throughput Analysis of Computation Offloading in Mobile Edge Computing: A Queueing Network Approach

Amirparsa Bahrami, Farid Ashtiani

Mobile edge computing (MEC) enables mobile devices to offload computation to nearby edge servers and to the cloud in order to reduce end-to-end delay for different applications. In this paper, we study static computation offloading when each task consists of multiple dependent subtasks represented by a rooted directed tree. We develop a product-form queueing-network (PFQN) model with an approximation to capture the computation and communication dynamics of tree-structured task execution in a multi-tier MEC system. Based on this model, we derive closed-form expressions for server utilizations and waiting times, and then construct a recursive algorithm for evaluating the average delay of general tree-structured tasks. We formulate the static offloading design problem as the minimization of the rate-weighted average task delay over the routing probabilities, and solve it through a differentiable optimization framework based on softmax parameterization, log-sum-exp smoothing, and a stability barrier on server utilizations. Numerical results show that the proposed PFQN approximation provides accurate delay estimates and that the delay-optimized static policy consistently outperforms the considered baseline algorithms in terms of both average task delay and maximum stable throughput.

Exact Bistatic Detection With Dual-Use AF Relays in SAGINs

Changhao He, Xiaojuan Zhang

We study bistatic UAV detection using dual use amplify and forward (AF) relays in satellite aerial ground integrated networks. The target reflects the pilot, payload, and relay noise, allowing the exact finite sample Neyman Pearson detection probability to be derived in noncentral chisquare form under Gaussian payload signaling. The AF cascade introduces a variance signature even without payload transmission and leads to a rate-constrained pilot allocation, distinct relay-power limits, and phase-dependent variance changes under residual direct-path interference. For a decorrelated or suppressed direct path, we further derive a phase-only generalized likelihood ratio test with exact single-integral error probabilities at an assumed target magnitude, the correlated case retains a known-coefficient detection law. A 15-GHz low Earth orbit link budget and Monte Carlo simulations validate the analysis.

SatOps-Decision: Low-Latency Discriminative Decisions for Onboard Satellite Communication Operations

Lifan Mei, Yuxuan Li, Jiaxian Tu, Shenghe Xu

We propose SatOps-Decision, a method for low-latency decisions in satellite communication operations. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first application of Jev-style general-purpose discriminative decision models to satellite operations, and the accompanying benchmark is the first dedicated to this approach. The learned scorer, a locally adapted Laya encoder with its native decision head, selects among supplied operational answers in a single forward pass. The benchmark combines authored operational contracts, controlled state changes and independently checked labels in an auditable construction. Evaluation prioritizes complete-request latency and raw decision accuracy; all main accuracy comparisons use the same 1,024 held-out questions, separate from training and development. SatOps-Decision's local scorer has a median latency of 90.3 ms per decision, versus 493.9 ms for Qwen3.5-0.8B generation and 388.4 ms for OneJev1.6-0.8B: $5.47\times$ and $4.30\times$ speedups based on median request times in the measured FP32/MPS implementations. Its mean raw accuracy is 85.3%, versus 42.5% for frozen Laya, 40.7% for Qwen generation and 58.6% for OneJev. As cloud accuracy references, original Jev 1.14/1.13 reach 87.4/81.9%.

Inter-Satellite Link Optimization for Low-Latency Global Networking

Arman Mollakhani, Jerayu Tiamraj, Shu-Jie Cao, Dongning Guo

Large-scale low-Earth-orbit satellite constellations offer a promising platform for global low-latency networking, in part because signals propagate faster in free space than in fiber and copper. In such systems, end-to-end latency is largely determined by the inter-satellite link (ISL) topology. In particular, the network diameter--the longest shortest path, in hops, between any pair of satellites--serves as a key performance metric for time-sensitive applications. Designing diameter-optimal topologies is challenging due to node degree constraints, orbital dynamics, and the combinatorial nature of link selection. This paper proposes a two-stage optimization framework for ISL topology design. First, a continuous relaxation of the link-selection problem is formulated as a convex program that maximizes the algebraic connectivity of the graph Laplacian, serving as a tractable surrogate for diameter minimization. Second, the resulting fractional solution is mapped to a feasible topology via maximum-weight b-matching, a problem solvable in polynomial time. Simulations on Walker-Delta constellations show that the proposed method consistently achieves smaller network diameters than a local-search baseline and standard patterned topologies. For a 1,584-satellite constellation in which each satellite has four ISLs of up to 2,500 km, the diameter is as small as 12 hops, and the maximum propagation delay between any two satellites is about 90 ms. With up- and downlinks adding up to 8 ms, the user-to-user propagation delay is at most about 98 ms, comparable to the delay over a great-circle fiber route between antipodal points on Earth.

6G Reasoning Agent Societies: Composition, Scaling, and Consistency-Time Laws

Hatim Chergui, Carolina Fernández-Martínez, Mustapha Benjillali, Mehdi Bennis, Merouane Debbah

Emerging 6G control planes would compose Large Language Model (LLM) agents that exchange interpreted conclusions, so hallucinations can propagate even over error-free transport. Recent architectures audit each message locally against the sender's observation mask, but isolated audits miss collective behavior. Modeling the agent society as a cellular sheaf, we establish three laws valid on arbitrary topologies. First, the composition law: network-wide divergence exceeds the sum of per-agent audit scores by exactly their hidden total correlation. This blind spot masks up to 23% of joint divergence and, because the declared signal cancels in the cognitive signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), overstates it by $1.14$ dB purely through topology; the resulting trust inflation preserves valid consensus states but slows convergence. Second, the scaling law: reconciliation decouples across metric counters, so the worst-connected dimension sets the pace. Consistency time grows for a society size $n$ as $Ω(n^{2/d})$ on polynomial-growth topologies of degree $d$, and paths breach a $1$ s near-real-time budget at $n^\ast=13$ agents, whereas expanders ($Θ(1)$) and radius-3 local audits ($O(1)$, $\approx300$ ms) stay bounded. Third, the consistency-time law: the timing error from omitted correlations is one-sided and capped by the worst-measured link. These laws, validated on simulated topologies and deployed LLM societies, give provable worst-case latency ceilings for near-real-time operation.

In this paper, we propose a novel uplink Hybrid Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) architecture assisted by Rydberg Atomic Quantum Receivers (RAQRs) to improve energy efficiency by addressing the physical constraints of atomic sensing. We formulate a joint optimization problem encompassing phase measurements and multi-user power allocation to minimize the total transmit power. This problem is particularly challenging due to the non-linear amplitude-only observations of atomic vapor cells. To decomposes the resulting non-convexity, we develop a hierarchical three-layer decomposition optimization framework that systematically decouples the global problem. The inner layer employs a customized Expectation Maximization-Gerchberg-Saxton (EM-GS) algorithm to resolve phase ambiguity and estimate equivalent channel gains. The middle layer derives closed-form optimal power allocation solutions via Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. The outer layer utilizes linear Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) detection for high-reliability signal recovery. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework over conventional RF-based Hybrid NOMA. Notably, the atomic architecture achieves approximately a 93% reduction in total power consumption compared to Orthogonal Multiple Access (OMA) baselines while maintaining strict backward compatibility, thereby laying a solid foundation for practical deployment in next-generation green communication networks.

Progressive-Observation Physical-Layer Fingerprinting for Efficient Open-Set Ethernet Authentication

Chenming Zhang, Jiaxiang Geng, Aiqun Hu, Azzedine Boukerche, Peng Sun

Physical-layer fingerprinting (PLF) has emerged as a promising authentication approach for Internet of Things devices. However, most PLF systems acquire and process a fixed-length waveform for every authentication query, burdening resource-constrained edge nodes. To address this issue, we propose a progressive-observation PLF method that adapts the waveform length to each query. Specifically, a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) first rejects clearly unknown devices from a short observation. Spectral matching then accepts clearly registered devices from a slightly longer observation. Only ambiguous queries proceed to the same matching on the full-length waveform, reducing both data acquisition and computation. Because fingerprints drift across days, we also design an adaptive calibration algorithm to avoid retraining the CNN. The algorithm realigns the features and decision thresholds using a few current-day references from registered devices. We evaluate the method with 100BASE-TX Ethernet devices of two controller types on held-out days. Compared with fixed-length processing, it keeps the false rejection and false acceptance rates equal or lower for both controller types on both days. It also reduces the waveform data per query by 75.1% and the CPU processing time on a Raspberry Pi 5 by 73.7% on average. With the same monitoring bandwidth, an edge node can therefore serve about four times as many authentication queries.

Opportunistic Optical Link Scheduling in the Scalable Matching Model

Marcos T. Henriques, Olga Goussevskaia

The Scalable Matching Model (SMM) is a useful abstraction for reconfigurable datacenter networks. In SMM, a set of $n$ (Top-of-Rack) electrical packet switches is connected via a set of optical circuit switches (OCS), each realizing a $p \times p$ matching, where $p$ is the number of ports per switch. In the case when $p \ll n$, bounded-degree networks utilize only a small portion of the OCS infrastructure at each point in time, especially when traffic patterns are skewed and bursty. In this work, we propose the Opportunistic Optical Link Scheduling (OOLS), a set of lightweight OCS link scheduling routines, designed to augment bounded-degree reconfigurable network topologies by leveraging idle OCS resources. We evaluate the performance of OOLS in the SMM through simulations, using synthetic and real-world data-center workloads. Our simulation results show that OOLS substantially improves performance, lowering communication costs and boosting throughput.

The LQ Digital Mode Family: Protocol Architecture and Reference Specification for Weak-Signal Communications

Luis Quesada

This paper introduces LQ8, an open-source weak-signal digital mode for amateur radio that completes structured two-way contacts in 4 transmissions (60 s), achieving a 1.50x speedup over canonical 6-transmission exchanges (90 s) and 1.25x over 5-transmission RR73 exchanges (75 s) while preserving complete bidirectional exchange of Maidenhead grid locators, signal reports, and mutual acknowledgments. By replacing fixed-width message-type headers with variable-length prefix codes matched to physical-layer bit budgets, LQ8 packs the answering station's grid locator and measured signal report into a single 77-bit reply. In multi-station pileup operations, LQ8 confirms up to two answering stations simultaneously within a single-carrier 50.0 Hz transmission with a 0.0 dB RF power-splitting penalty, achieving a peak rate of 240 QSOs/h in continuous pileup (4x over single-carrier FT8; 480 QSOs/h dual-carrier) while retaining -21.0 dB SNR sensitivity. The protocol family also defines three extended profiles (LQ16, LQ4, and LQ2) tailored for extreme sensitivity, VHF/UHF contesting, and fast-burst channels.

Federated Learning for Semantic Communications over Multiple Access Channels

Yalin E. Sagduyu, Tugba Erpek, Yi Shi

This paper presents a federated learning (FL) framework for semantic communication (SemCom) over the multiple access channel (MAC), where multiple distributed transmitters simultaneously convey semantic information to a common receiver using end-to-end learned semantic representations. Semantic feature extraction, compression, wireless transmission, and semantic inference are jointly optimized through FL-based SemCom. Unlike conventional SemCom systems that train users independently, simultaneous semantic transmissions over the MAC enable concurrent training of multiple transmitters within the same transmission interval, thereby reducing training overhead and channel usage. Federated semantic aggregation is incorporated with shared and personalized encoder components, allowing transmitters with limited local training data to benefit from semantic representations learned from transmitters possessing larger datasets while preserving local adaptation. Evaluated using the CIFAR-10 dataset over fading channels, the proposed approach maintains high semantic inference accuracy under shared wireless access and significantly improves performance under severe data imbalance. In the meantime, simultaneous semantic transmissions can significantly reduce training overhead while preserving robust semantic performance across distributed transmitters with heterogeneous local datasets. These results highlight the potential of combining FL and SemCom to support scalable and communication-efficient edge intelligence in future wireless networks.

NLP-based Message Prioritisation for Opportunistic Routing: A Case Study of Nepal Earthquake Emergency Communication

Yihang Cao, Milena Radenkovic

This dissertation investigates whether Natural Language Processing (NLP) based semantic message prioritisation can improve the treatment of urgent disaster messages in opportunistic emergency communication, using the 2015 Nepal earthquake as a case study. TF IDF with Logistic Regression and BERT are used to classify social media messages into nine humanitarian categories, which are mapped to four routing priorities from P1 to P4. These priorities are integrated into the ONE simulator within a controlled Kathmandu earthquake scenario using a modified Binary Spray and Wait router. BERT achieves higher priority accuracy and P1 recall than Logistic Regression, while reducing under prioritisation and severe priority errors. However, improved NLP performance does not produce uniform network gains. P1 delivery probability remains high and similar across routing conditions, and no consistent latency reduction is observed. The clearest difference appears under buffer pressure, where the BERT condition shows fewer observed ground truth P1 buffer losses than Logistic Regression. The results indicate that semantic prioritisation is most valuable when limited transmission and storage resources are contested, although it cannot overcome mobility and contact constraints in opportunistic networks.

Task-Oriented Semantic Communication for Hazard Warning and Remote Operation in Connected Vehicle Platoons

S M Sabit Bananee, Shahriar Hasan, Muhammad Mahbub Alam, Nafiul Rashid

Connected and automated vehicle platoons require reliable dissemination of task-relevant hazard information to enable appropriate downstream responses, with unresolved situations additionally requiring remote human intervention. However, the limited channel bandwidth of V2X communication makes high-volume sensor data transmission challenging, motivating the exchange of only task-relevant information rather than raw sensor data. This paper proposes an integrated semantic and task-oriented communication framework for cooperative hazard response and remote operation in automated vehicle platoons. The framework combines onboard instance segmentation and monocular depth estimation for task-oriented hazard decision-making with Stable Diffusion Variational Autoencoder (SD-VAE)-based semantic scene compression. Task-relevant hazard information and the compact semantic representation are jointly disseminated through a broadcast-based Emergency Semantic Message (ESM) over the existing V2X protocol stack. Evaluation demonstrates that SD-VAE consistently outperforms JPEG and JPEG 2000 on task-relevant reconstruction metrics, exhibiting graceful degradation rather than a sharp cliff effect under low-SINR conditions, demonstrating its feasibility for remote scene reconstruction when human intervention is required. Moreover, an extensive campaign of 7,290 simulation runs shows a low overall inter-vehicle collision rate of 0.99%, with collisions occurring mainly under extreme high-speed and short-gap conditions.

LunarRF: A Terrain-Aware Propagation Engine and Pole-Wide 3GPP Surface Coverage Atlas of the Lunar South Pole

Christopher J. Santorelli, Alexander M. Wyglinski

Artemis surface operations will depend on 3GPP cellular links, yet no public product shows where such links are physically possible across the lunar south pole. We present LunarRF, a GPU system for terrain-aware surface coverage, and the pole-wide atlas produced with it. A footprint engine casts 8192 radial profiles from one of 11,827 candidate masts enumerated by stated rules on the orbit-adjusted LOLA elevation model, takes the viewshed, and evaluates ITU-R P.1812 Delta-Bullington propagation on every profile, continuous through the radio horizon. An order-independent resolver merges the footprints per 20 m cell, making the run shardable and resumable. The atlas covers the disc south of 80°S at 20 m for four SFCG-recommended surface bands and the IM-2 demonstration band, 1.8 to 25.375 GHz, under a stated link budget, storing per cell the best-server power and identity, redundancy count, line of sight and coverability. The engine is validated against a parabolic-equation solver, ray tracing and analytic solutions. Swapping Deygout for Delta-Bullington, or adding terrain noise at the level of the published height-error map of the DEM, moves the coverable class on under 1% of a mast's disc in the mean. With every candidate active, 90.5% of the disc is coverable at 1.8 GHz, 59% at 5.855 GHz and 10% at 25.375 GHz, or 84, 43 and 5% after the measured 3-4 dB engine optimism. A mast covers about 90% of its visible area within its budget-set range, and no band is terrain-limited. The nine current Artemis regions are 85-99% coverable at 1.8 GHz and 22-85% at 5.855 GHz. The atlas and candidate table are released with a DOI.

Keeping Inference in the Radio: Design and Measurement of a Spiking Accelerator for mmWave ISAC Activity Recognition

Anthony Sánchez, Rafael Ruiz, José A. Belloch, Jesús O. Lacruz, Joerg Widmer

Integrated sensing and communication allows wireless networks to recognize human activity from the channel estimates that the receiver computes anyway. The inference, however, runs on the general-purpose processors of the base station, access point or handset, which are the first components a device switches off to save energy. Always-on sensing therefore requires a classifier that is small enough to remain powered while the rest of the system sleeps. We investigate whether Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) can provide such a classifier. To this end, we generate SNN accelerators for micro-Doppler activity recognition on the public DISC dataset (IEEE 802.11ay at 60 GHz) with the open-source Spiker+ framework, and implement them together with a spike encoder on a ZCU208 RFSoC, so that the complete chain from micro-Doppler frame to activity label runs in programmable logic. A fully connected SNN with 132 neurons achieves 94.7 % accuracy (90.7 % macro-F1) on unseen subjects and performs an inference in 206 microseconds. Compared to conventional networks of the same topology on the same device, it requires an eighth of the logic and 3.4X less dynamic energy per decision than a network fed the same binary spikes, at comparable accuracy, and 7.6X less than a network fed the 16-bit spectrogram, at 1.2 points lower accuracy. Quantization-aware training reduces its weights to 3 bits within half a percentage point of the 6-bit network at the same encoder threshold
