SEAMLiS: Visibility-Aware Safety for Perception-Limited Multi-Robot Exploration

Taekyung Kim, Rahul H Kumar, Aswin D. Menon, Tzu-Hsiang Lin, Dimitra Panagou

原文摘要

Autonomous exploration in unknown environments is typically driven by informative frontiers, viewpoints, or trajectories, while local safety controllers avoid obstacles represented in the current map. Under finite sensing range and limited field of view, this separation can be unsafe: an exploration stack may plan optimistically through unobserved space and steer the sensor toward information gain rather than along the direction of motion, causing hidden obstacles to be detected too late for bounded-actuation avoidance. This paper presents SEAMLiS (Safe Exploration for Autonomous Multi-Robot Systems Under Limited Sensing), a modular execution-layer safety framework for decentralized multi-robot exploration. SEAMLiS preserves the upstream exploration stack, including the goal allocator and local planner, and enforces safety at the execution layer through perception-aware attitude and positional filters. A gatekeeper-based attitude filter switches between a visibility-promoting yaw policy and a velocity-tracking backup policy to preserve visibility of the critical known-free/unknown boundary with sufficient braking margin. A Control Barrier Function (CBF)-based positional filter then avoids known obstacles, newly detected obstacles, and other robots. We provide sufficient collision-avoidance conditions and validate the framework in randomized simulation, Isaac Sim, and Crazyflie hardware experiments. Results show collision-free exploration across tested single- and multi-robot settings while retaining much of the efficiency of visibility-promoting yaw control.

To Coordinate or Not to Coordinate? Learning to Swim with Eight Soft Arms

Junkai Chen, Dehan Yuan, Yiyuan Zhang, Yu Duan, Fan Shi, Dixia Fan, Cecilia Laschi

原文摘要

Does effective swimming with multiple underactuated soft arms require explicit coordination between arms? We hypothesize that an eight-arm swimmer can control its swimming speed and direction by independently learning each arm's actuation amplitude under a shared rhythmic drive, without prescribed inter-arm phase coupling. To test this hypothesis, we compare three reinforcement learning-based control strategies using proximal policy optimization (PPO): (1) learning arm-specific actuation amplitudes without inter-arm phase coupling, (2) learning actuation amplitudes with prescribed inter-arm phase coupling, and (3) directly learning actuator commands through end-to-end PPO without an explicit rhythmic structure. Across 200 episodes with randomized three-dimensional velocity commands, the controller without phase coupling satisfies the tracking criterion in 169 episodes, compared with 117 for the phase-coupled controller and 28 for end-to-end PPO. Straight-line swimming and commanded direction-change trials further demonstrate more accurate velocity tracking without phase coupling. These findings suggest that effective eight-arm swimming does not require prescribed inter-arm phase coupling, but can instead be achieved through learned arm-specific amplitude modulation within a rhythmic control structure.

Learning Purposeful Co-designs of Bio-inspired Quadrupedal Robots

Fabio Boekel, Jiatao Ding, Cosimo Della Santina

原文摘要

Treating morphology and control as separate design problems has constrained the efficiency and adaptability of quadrupedal robots, while current co-design approaches are often constrained by restricted design spaces. We overcome this limit by introducing Dogger, a bio-inspired quadruped with modular three-segment legs, four-bar linkages and adjustable passive knee compliance. A two-stage framework combining reinforcement learning and Bayesian optimization is developed: the morphology-conditioned control policy is trained across designs and then held fixed during task-specific design selection. The resulting designs and policies deployed zero-shot reduce the cost of transport by 18.6% and 35.7% for inspection and payload-carrying tasks. Comparisons demonstrate that full geometry-compliance co-design outperforms fixed and restricted design scopes. Cross-task tests further reveal distinct task-specific morphologies with shared mechanical trade-offs. These results provide hardware-level evidence that expanding the physical design space alongside learned control is essential to realize the full potential of task-driven morphology-control co-design in legged robotics.

LOGIV: Graph-Verified Execution with Causal Local Repair for Long-Horizon Robot Tasks

原文摘要

Agentic robots must turn a high-level goal into actions while keeping the physical conditions needed for future steps valid. A completed action does not ensure that its effects will persist: a later disturbance can invalidate support that the remaining plan still assumes. We present LOGIV, a graph engineering framework for agentic robot execution that uses an explicit task graph to connect symbolic planning, observation-based verification, and embodied action. LOGIV compiles a validated plan into condition-support and resource-ordering edges, checks their physical validity during execution, and uses dependency tracing to determine what must be restored after a failure. Repair is constrained by retained unfinished actions, and the combined continuation is symbolically validated before execution resumes. The framework operates above existing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) and World Action Model (WAM) policies without adding trainable components. Across 20 dual-arm tasks from RoboTwin V2 and BiCoord with three execution backbones, LOGIV improves mean task success without injected disturbances by 10.67 and 15.33 percentage points, respectively. Under predefined perturbations, it achieves higher task completion and condition restoration than three adapted recovery baselines for every backbone on both benchmarks. On three real-robot tasks, successful trials increase from 12/30 to 17/30. These results support explicit, continuously checked task dependencies as a practical interface for reliable agentic robot execution.

Sampling-Based Motion Planning with Scene Graphs Under Perception Constraints

Qingxi Meng, Emiliano Flores, Thai Duong, Vaibhav Unhelkar, Lydia E. Kavraki

原文摘要

It will be increasingly common for robots to operate in cluttered human-centered environments such as homes, workplaces, and hospitals, where the robot is often tasked to maintain perception constraints, such as monitoring people or multiple objects, for safety and reliability while executing its task. However, existing perception-aware approaches typically focus on low-degree-of-freedom (DoF) systems or only consider a single object in the context of high-DoF robots. This motivates us to consider the problem of perception-aware motion planning for high-DoF robots that accounts for multi-object monitoring constraints. We employ a scene graph representation of the environment, offering a great potential for incorporating long-horizon task and motion planning thanks to its rich semantic and spatial information. However, it does not capture perception-constrained information, such as the viewpoints the user prefers. To address these challenges, we propose MOPS-PRM, a roadmap-based motion planner, that integrates the perception cost of observing multiple objects or humans directly into motion planning for high-DoF robots. The perception cost is embedded to each object as part of a scene graph, and used to selectively sample configurations for roadmap construction, implicitly enforcing the perception constraints. Our method is extensively validated in both simulated and real-world experiments, achieving more than ~36% improvement in the average number of detected objects and ~17% better track rate against other perception-constrained baselines, with comparable planning times and path lengths.

Look as You Leap: Planning Simultaneous Motion and Perception for High-DOF Robots

Qingxi Meng, Emiliano Flores, Carlos Quintero-Peña, Peizhu Qian, Zachary Kingston, Shannan K. Hamlin, Vaibhav Unhelkar, Lydia E. Kavraki

原文摘要

Most common tasks for robots in dynamic spaces require that the environment is regularly and actively perceived. The perception task considered in this work can represent a broad range of robot perception objectives, including object detection, human activity recognition, and human face detection. For example, a service robot may need to continuously localize an object during manipulation, while an assistive robot may need to reliably perceive a human face or activity for interaction and safety. These tasks impose perception constraints on robot motion. However, solving motion and perception tasks simultaneously is challenging, as their requirements often conflict. Furthermore, robots must react quickly to environmental changes, while directly evaluating perception quality (e.g., object detection confidence) is often expensive or infeasible at runtime. This problem is especially important in human-centered environments, such as homes and hospitals, where effective perception is essential for safe operation. In this work, we address motion planning for high-degree-of-freedom (DoF) robots from a start to a goal configuration with continuous perception constraints in static and dynamic environments. Our solution is a GPU-parallelized perception-score-guided probabilistic roadmap planner with a neural surrogate model (PS-PRM). Unlike existing active perception-, visibility-aware, or learning-based planners, our work jointly considers perception tasks and constraints when searching for a motion-planning solution. Our method uses a neural surrogate model to approximate perception scores, incorporates them into roadmap planning, and leverages GPU parallelism for efficient online replanning. We demonstrate that our planner outperforms RL- and trajectory-optimization-based baselines in static and dynamic environments in simulation and real-robot experiments.

GazeVLA: Learning Human Intention for Robotic Manipulation

Chengyang Li, Kaiyi Xiong, Yuan Xu, Lei Qian, Yizhou Wang, Wentao Zhu

原文摘要

Embodied foundation models have significantly propelled the advancement of artificial general intelligence, yet they rely heavily on large-scale data. Recent studies identify human behavior as one of the most scalable sources for fostering robotic physical intelligence. However, the inherent embodiment gap remains a fundamental challenge for effective human-to-robot learning. In this work, we model human intention to enable efficient learning from human demonstrations. Among human behavioral cues, gaze simultaneously encodes high-level task semantics and exhibits a synergistic coupling with low-level action. By modeling intention through gaze, we derive a mid-level representation that facilitates cross-embodiment knowledge transfer. We demonstrate that robots can internalize human intentions to enhance manipulation, even without robotic intention annotations. To capture the synergy between intention and action, we adopt a Chain-of-Thought reasoning paradigm during inference. Our approach enables the execution of long-horizon and fine-grained tasks across diverse embodiments. Extensive experiments in both simulation and real-world demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms baseline approaches and generalizes to unseen settings. Labference: Benchmarking the Reasoning-Action Connection in Robotic Laboratories

原文摘要

Realizing Embodied AI for Science requires robots to translate experimental goals into reliable physical procedures, reducing hazardous and repetitive human work while generating evidence for scientific discovery. Although language-based planning and learned manipulation provide complementary capabilities, their integration requires robots to adapt subsequent operations to actual execution outcomes. For example, an unsuccessful placement changes what must be done next, even when the experimental goal remains unchanged. Existing benchmarks assess planning, manipulation, and laboratory workflows through task completion and reasoning or execution metrics; however, aggregate performance leaves the connection between outcome-dependent choices and physical execution unresolved. To address this evaluation gap, we introduce Labference, a benchmark for evaluating how observed physical outcomes guide subsequent choices and how those choices translate into robotic laboratory actions. Its evaluation protocol is designed to test outcome-dependent behavioral adaptation through controlled evidence variations, while independently measuring operation selection, physical execution, and task completion. Matched Oracle-assisted continuations from shared checkpoints then assess which forms of support improve subsequent choices and task completion. Initial weighing evaluations reveal target-selection errors in the tested VLA policies despite successful object transfers, whereas GPT-driven control achieves correct selection but encounters execution failures and substantial computation costs. Together, these findings highlight the need to connect task-appropriate reasoning with reliable, timely action. By making this connection measurable and diagnosable, Labference supports targeted improvements toward autonomous experimentation for Embodied AI for Science.

Late Autumn: LLM Agents Specialize a General Multi-Robot Planner for One Warehouse

Yimin Tang, Han Zhang, Shao-Hung Chan, Erdem Bıyık, Sven Koenig, Jingkai Chen

原文摘要

No algorithm is best on all problems, but a real warehouse is a narrow problem: its layout and processes rarely change. Operators still run one general multi-robot planner at many sites, because experts cannot tune it for each one. In this work, which we call Late Autumn, we explore whether LLM coding agents running autonomous research can specialize a general planner for one site, trading generality for throughput, much as post-training adapts a pretrained LLM to one task. We study six campaigns on a lifelong planner that combines task assignment with multi-agent path finding, on a floor modeled on an existing automated warehouse. We find that (1) the agents raise throughput by 22--60%, and the gains hold on unseen seeds; (2) they rediscover known MAPF mechanisms, such as corridor-exit priorities, local guidance, and rollouts, and independent campaigns find the same bottleneck; (3) the gains largely carry over to another layout, a larger fleet, and other service times, shrink with a smaller fleet, and mostly vanish under an outbound-heavy demand mix; and (4) each final patch (0.7k--2.4k lines) is a chain of scored commits with a median step of 27 lines, so experts can review it, and review finds problems that the score misses; some patches multiply planner compute by over 100x. LLM agents can therefore turn each site's bias into extra throughput at little engineering cost, with reviewable patches; we expect experts to shift toward designing insightful metrics and fast simulators that mirror the real problem.

WasserMan: Benchmark for Underwater Manipulation Policy Learning

Danil Belov, Artem Erkhov, Sergei Parsegov, Pavel Osinenko

原文摘要

Underwater contact manipulation couples visual decisions with vehicle stabilization and mechanism interaction. To our knowledge, WasserMan is the first multi-task simulation benchmark focused on visuomotor policy learning for manipulating articulated underwater mechanisms. The suite supports demonstration-based policy learning, alternative vehicle--arm platforms and bimanual manipulation. We compare ACT, diffusion policies and behavioral cloning under matched sample budgets, and evaluate adaptation of a pretrained SmolVLA baseline. Fixed-policy studies vary water appearance, lighting, contact parameters, actuator delay, arm properties and mechanism pose. RGB feedback controls and matched observation-history and expert-trajectory ablations examine observation and training choices. Expert references establish task feasibility under the same physical success tests. The experiments reveal task-dependent visual transfer and pose sensitivity, while contact, tracking and actuator measurements distinguish execution responses that completion alone hides. Complete expert candidate streams make the initial states associated with demonstration selection inspectable. Versioned code, demonstrations, checkpoints and per-episode physical evidence support reproducible comparisons within the simulation.

原文摘要

High-fidelity 3D reconstruction of vehicle exteriors improves buyer confidence in online automotive marketplaces, but fixed multi-camera drive-through capture departs from standard Structure-from-Motion (SfM): static cameras observe a moving vehicle amid clutter, rotating wheels, fisheye distortion, and specular reflections. We present RigidDriveGS, an object-centric pipeline combining motion-gated tracking, bifurcated masks that exclude wheels for SfM while optionally retaining them for rendering, mask-guided dense correspondences on raw distorted images, rig-constrained global SfM, and clean object-centric neural rendering with trimap-aware opacity or density supervision and native-alpha white compositing. We evaluate 25 vehicles from 10 dealership installations and six phone-recorded vehicles, each captured from 14 independent handheld positions. Under a staggered per-camera temporal-block holdout, 3DGUT+MCMC achieves 30.42 dB PSNR, 0.90 SSIM, and 0.20 LPIPS, improving PSNR by 7.78 dB over undistorted 3D-GS; independently recorded reference LiDAR scans yield full/body Chamfer-L1 of 0.026/0.013 m and F1@5 cm of 0.703/0.885. These results support clutter-free, object-centric novel-view synthesis without controlled studio infrastructure.

H-JEPA: End-to-End Learning of Hierarchical World Models for Visual Planning

Wancong Zhang, Basile Terver, Michael Rabbat, Yann LeCun, Randall Balestriero

原文摘要

Long-horizon planning with latent world models requires reasoning across timescales and levels of abstraction. Existing task-agnostic JEPA world models predict and plan in a single latent space, often at a single timescale. We introduce H-JEPA, an end-to-end recipe for training a hierarchy of action-conditioned JEPAs in which each level predicts farther ahead in its own learned latent space. Planning proceeds top-down: the top level optimizes progress toward the goal, and each level's predictions become subgoals for the planner below it. When factors in the data evolve at separated timescales, higher levels discard fast, unpredictable detail and retain slower task-relevant state. Across four simulated navigation and manipulation environments, hierarchical planning improves over a flat JEPA; on Visual AntMaze, a three-level hierarchy raises success from 18% to 73% using less planner compute. Ablations attribute these gains to both temporal decomposition and higher-level goal representations. With inverse-dynamics supervision, the approach extends to diverse real-robot videos from DROID, where hierarchy improves offline planning fidelity at lower planner compute.

When to Probe and When to Act: Clarity-Aware Risk-Adaptive Control for Interactive Driving

Youran Wang, Devodita Chakravarty, Yiwei Lyu

原文摘要

Safe navigation in interactive traffic requires autonomous vehicles to reason about unobservable human characteristics and the reciprocal nature of multi-agent interactions. Traditional architectures often decouple prediction from planning, leading to the "Frozen Robot Problem" or unsafe maneuvers under high ambiguity because they treat risk assessment and information acquisition as independent objectives. We argue that the notion of safety should not remain static but must instead dynamically co-evolve with the system's internal confidence: the robot should actively clarify ambiguity when necessary while also recognizing the diminishing returns of information, and naturally transition toward task execution. We introduce a unified belief-space Model Predictive Control (MPC) framework that couples multistep information planning with a clarity-adaptive Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) barrier mechanism. By treating clarity, a scalar informational state, as an explicit planning variable, the controller co-designs its probing strategy with its safety specification, tightening conservatism under high ambiguity and relaxing constraints as confidence improves. We further provide a performance analysis showing that the cost of information seeking and the expected planning-cost gap to a controller that knows the true human characteristic are bounded by residual ambiguity and solver error. We evaluate the framework in lane-merging and unsignalized-intersection scenarios against representative interactive-planning baselines. Across 5,000 simulations, the proposed method achieves the highest success rates (94.6% and 93.2%) and the lowest collision rates (1.2% and 1.4%) among the compared methods, providing a principled foundation for robust decision-making in human-centric environments.

Beyond Ensemble Disagreement: Predictive STL Monitoring of RL Locomotion under Distribution Shift

Qurban Ali, Badaruddin Chachar, Maqsood Ali, Sajjad Ali Rajper

原文摘要

RL locomotion policies trained under nominal simulation conditions may encounter distribution shifts that compromise safety. Predictive monitors could anticipate violations, but their world-model forecasts may become unreliable under shift, and ensemble disagreement is not calibrated. We evaluate predictive Signal Temporal Logic (STL) monitoring for frozen Ant-v5 and HalfCheetah-v5 policies using closed-loop world-model rollouts and a three-model ensemble. Across external-force, observation-noise, and mass shifts, predicted robustness ranks HalfCheetah's future STL violations strongly, whereas disagreement does not reliably track observation prediction error or violations. Under severe noise, violations remain common ($64.2\pm24.4\%$ at $K{=}20$ across three PPO seeds), yet current-state robustness without prediction comes within $0.03$ AUROC of predictive robustness. Penalizing predicted robustness by disagreement does not consistently improve ranking. Ant provides complementary per-specification evidence, but its composite target has no positive violations and its any-violation target is single-class in most evaluated seed-condition slices. Overall, predictive robustness provides useful STL-specific ranking but little demonstrated additional ranking value over the current state; these findings caution against treating ensemble disagreement as a reliable indicator of safety uncertainty.

MAESTRO: Orchestrating Robotics Modules with Coding Agents for Zero-Shot Generalist Robots

原文摘要

Today's dominant route to generalist robots scales robotics data to train end-to-end policies. We instead use a vision-language model (VLM) as a coding agent that writes robot programs using a curated library of perception, planning, and control tools. MAESTRO's orchestration harness packages multi-step perception and action procedures into callable tools and guides their use through a plan-act-replan loop, using visual and execution feedback to verify outcomes and recover from failures. With this tool library and harness, MAESTRO matches or surpasses state-of-the-art vision-language-action (VLA) models zero-shot in our tabletop comparison and performs diverse mobile manipulation tasks, without collecting new teleoperation data or invoking a VLA tool. Ablations show that expanding the tool library improves average task progress with the full harness, while adding tools without it does not reliably improve progress. Case studies illustrate MAESTRO's potential for autonomous code improvement across trials, faster execution with VLA tools, and automatic robot data generation. We show that expanding robotics tool libraries together with their orchestration harnesses offers a complementary route to general-purpose robots alongside scaling end-to-end robot training data. When Should a Robot Replan? Regret-Guided Update Scheduling in Time-Varying MDPs

Negin Musavi, Gokul Puthumanaillam, Ruben Hernandez, William Schafer, Melkior Ornik

原文摘要

Robots operating in non-stationary environments must continually adapt their policies as the dynamics drift, but onboard energy and compute budgets cap how often a full state estimation and re-planning step can be performed. This raises a question: \emph{when}, along a horizon, should a robot spend its limited budget? We formulate this problem in time-varying Markov decision processes (TVMDPs) with a known bound on the rate of transition drift. We model execution as a \emph{skip-update} scheme in which, at chosen update times, the agent estimates the transition kernel by maximum likelihood and computes a finite-horizon policy, and between updates reuses this policy under a propagated state estimate. We analyze the dynamic regret of this scheme and show how it grows during skip intervals in terms of the properties of the TVMDP and the skip lengths; the resulting bound answers the opening question via an online, regret-guided update rule that allocates the budget adaptively. We evaluate the rule in a simulated Mars-rover navigation task with time-varying slip dynamics and on a Crazyflie quadrotor in indoor obstacle fields. Adaptive allocation outperforms other budgeted baselines.

Pose accuracy is not grasp reliability: residual pose posteriors improve simulated robotic grasp planning

Md Selim Sarowar, Sungho Kim

原文摘要

Model-based robotic grasping estimates an object's six-dimensional (6D) pose and plans on its mesh as if that pose were exact. We show that this assumption reduces simulated grasp success even when the pose passes the standard accuracy test. We built LM-Grasp, a benchmark of 15{,}800 real LINEMOD RGB-D images with grasp outcomes simulated on scanned meshes. FoundationPose meets the ADD(-S) criterion (mean model-point error below 10\% of the object diameter) on 0.997 of test scenes, yet planning on its estimate succeeds in 0.791 of scenes, compared with 0.856 using the annotated pose. Because the estimator reports no uncertainty, we build a pose posterior from its own errors on annotated training frames, resampled from frames with similar observable fit, and score each grasp by its mean success across sampled poses and four equally weighted physics scenarios. Without retraining the estimator, posterior planning yields 0.859 (difference from the annotated-pose result +0.003; 95\% scene-wise paired-bootstrap interval [$-$0.003, +0.009]). This interval is compatible with no difference and a small shortfall; we did not conduct an equivalence test. For pose errors of 5 to 10\% of the diameter, simulated success rises from 0.796 to 0.984. Among test scenes assigned singleton-success conformal prediction sets, observed held-out precision is 0.972, compared with 0.904 for the point-estimate planner; these are empirical precision estimates, not conditional guarantees. On occluded LM-O scenes never used for tuning, posterior planning closes 66\% of the gap to the annotated pose.

Directional Bounded-Confidence Matrix Alignment in Vicsek Flocking

Hossein B. Jond

原文摘要

This paper proposes a directional bounded-confidence variant of the discrete-time Vicsek multiagent model, in which pairwise heading alignment is modulated by a state-dependent, positive semidefinite matrix that independently gates orthogonal radial and tangential components in the instantaneous line-of-sight frame. We analyze the normalized, matrix-weighted system dynamics, proving a uniform non-vanishing bound on proposal vectors that guarantees global well-posedness across arbitrary network states. For local small-spread states under complete metric interaction, we prove linear geometric contraction of the heading diameter and establish an offline-verifiable spatial bootstrap condition that guarantees metric contact preservation and coincidence avoidance a priori. A counterexample demonstrates invariant polarized states on connected matrix graphs, delineating systemic structural limits. Numerical experiments against unfiltered Vicsek averaging, scalar tied confidence, trace-matched scalar baselines, and restricted-angle rules demonstrate component-selective filtering without rejected-channel leakage, along with improved fixed-bound alignment on multi-seed benchmarks across varying population densities.

Human Sensorimotor Model Adaptation to Account for Robot Accuracy and Speed Augmentation in Human-Robot Co-Manipulation

Frits van Hall, Kevin Haninger, Luka Peternel

原文摘要

In human-robot co-manipulation, the robot's trajectory should accommodate the human's, where human sensorimotor behavior is affected by the task's spatial and temporal constraints, as well as personal factors. Several robot trajectory planning methods have been proposed to embed human sensorimotor models in the robot trajectory planning, but these methods do not consider temporal constraints that adapt to how the human behaves when interacting with the robot. To better align human and robot collaborative motion, this work adapts a stochastic optimal control problem with a final state constraint from the task constraints and a temporal constraint from Fitts' law. A recursive least squares method is used to estimate the Fitts' law parameters, adapting the robot's motion duration to that of the human, thus allowing the robot to adapt to how the human behaves when interacting with the robot. It is hypothesized that a speed increase can result from the robot augmenting the accuracy. The feasibility of the approach is validated on a positioning task where the robot controls degrees of freedom which have repeatable motion, and the human adapts motion in the complementary degrees of freedom. The approach is shown to be computationally suited to online use, it converges as the human and robot mutually adapt, and can increase the movement speed, although thorough human studies are needed in future work.

Directional Bounded-Confidence Cucker-Smale Flocking

Hossein B. Jond

原文摘要

This paper introduces a directional bounded-confidence extension of the Cucker--Smale (CS) flocking model that decomposes pairwise relative velocities into independent radial and tangential channels within the instantaneous line-of-sight frame. Gating these components via compactly supported kernels creates a time-varying, state-dependent, matrix-weighted interaction that strictly generalizes classical scalar CS alignment. We establish an exact energy-dissipation identity with conserved mean velocity and prove exponential velocity consensus under a sliding-window persistent excitation (PE) condition formulated directly on the disagreement subspace. Furthermore, we derive a CS bounded-diameter criterion separating metric decay from aggregate directional coercivity, along with a cluster convergence guarantee. Simulations validate the exact dissipation balance and demonstrate that directional gating successfully restores global alignment in scenarios where traditional isotropic tied-confidence laws remain polarized.

GoalDex: Learning Image-Goal-Conditioned Policies for Dexterous In-Hand Manipulation

原文摘要

Dexterous in-hand manipulation is commonly formulated around explicit object pose estimation, yet reliable pose tracking is challenging under severe hand-object occlusions and often requires object-specific supervision. This dependence creates a bottleneck between perception and control that can limit robustness and scalability. We present an end-to-end visuomotor framework for dexterous in-hand reorientation that operates on RGB observations and proprioception without intermediate pose estimation. Our approach jointly learns visual representations and control policies through behavior distillation from privileged state teachers and auxiliary reconstruction objectives. Furthermore, we introduce image-goal-conditioned reorientation, allowing desired object configurations to be specified directly through images rather than canonical pose representations. We evaluate our approach across a diverse set of object geometries and instances in simulation, where it consistently outperforms pose-based methods and policies built on pretrained visual encoders. Finally, we demonstrate direct sim-to-real transfer of a single image-goal-conditioned policy across five real-world objects, showing that accurate dexterous reorientation can be achieved without explicit pose estimation. Formal Evidence Generation for Assurance Cases for Robotic Software Models

Fang Yan, Simon Foster, Ana Cavalcanti, Ibrahim Habli, James Baxter

原文摘要

Robotics and Autonomous Systems are increasingly deployed in safety-critical domains, so that demonstrating their safety is essential. Assurance Cases (ACs) provide structured arguments supported by evidence, but generating and maintaining this evidence is labour-intensive, error-prone, and difficult to keep consistent as systems evolve. We present a model-based approach to systematically generating AC evidence by embedding formal verification into the assurance workflow. The approach addresses three challenges: systematically deriving formal assertions from natural language requirements using templates, orchestrating multiple formal verification tools to handle diverse property types, and integrating formal evidence production into the workflow. Leveraging RoboChart, a domain-specific modelling language with formal semantics, we combine model checking and theorem proving in our approach. Structured requirements are automatically transformed into formal assertions using predefined templates, and verification results are automatically integrated as evidence. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Mechanical hysteresis and pneumatic loading complicate contact force estimation from deformation measurements in soft robots. This work presents a 3D-printed polyether block amide (PEBA) Kresling cell with magnetic angular sensing that supports three operating modes: force sensing at zero gauge pressure, force sensing with tunable stiffness under gauge positive pressure, and self-sensing actuation under negative gauge pressure. A multiscale gated recurrent unit (GRU) network estimates contact force from angular histories to account for the the combined effects of geometric deformation and material response. At zero gauge pressure, the model achieves a test RMSE of 0.76~N. Positive gauge pressure approximately doubles the average axial loading stiffness at +20~kPa over the first 3~mm of compression, while pressure-specific models maintain RMSEs below 0.93~N. Under negative gauge pressure, an energy-based compensation model enables contact force estimation using the the model trained at zero gauge pressure, achieving RMSEs of 1.66--2.10~N under quasi-static conditions. These results demonstrate a compact approach to combining force feedback, tunable axial stiffness, and self-sensing actuation in soft origami systems.

When Delay Meets Drift: Physical Safety of Robot Foundation Models Is a Cross-Layer Problem

Liangkai Liu, Bimal Thapa Magar

原文摘要

Robot foundation models now act in a closed loop, yet their safety is evaluated one variation at a time: robustness benchmarks perturb the scene while assuming instantaneous inference, and real-time execution methods study inference delay in nominal scenes. We argue that physical safety is not a property of the model alone, but emerges from how variations in the physical environment, the model, the computing platform, and execution interact in closed loop. We formalize this as cross-layer variation propagation across these system layers and use an interaction contrast to measure when joint variation creates more risk than the sum of its parts. In 4,000 paired closed-loop episodes of the pi0.5 vision-language-action model on LIBERO, a 400 ms inference delay raises the safety-violation rate by 3.5 percentage points under the training viewpoint but by 37 percentage points under a 60-degree camera shift: 33.5 percentage points (95% CI: 25-43) more than the two effects combined. We close with a research agenda toward predictable physical intelligence: predicting when variation becomes risk, and adapting compute, power, and control accordingly.

Local Solution Repair for Multi-Agent Pickup and Delivery

Ethan Schneider, Jingkai Chen, Seth Hutchinson, Sonia Chernova

原文摘要

Multi-robot systems in automated warehouses must efficiently attend to a constant stream of pickup-and-delivery tasks while avoiding collisions. Existing Multi-Agent Pickup-and-Delivery (MAPD) solutions generate plans that are globally feasible but often locally inefficient. In large-scale, long-horizon deployments, these inefficiencies, such as robots backtracking from target goal locations and idling in congested areas, accumulate over time and degrade performance. This paper contributes Local Solution Repair (LSR), a goal replanning approach that detects suboptimal behaviors at run-time and locally improves plans to reduce conflict between agents. We demonstrate the utility of our approach by repairing solutions generated by state-of-the-art MAPD baselines, M2M and LNS-PBS. Our results in long-horizon warehouse simulations over three environments show upwards of 5.9% improvement in task throughput over current state-of-the-art methods by reducing the number of suboptimal instances by ~36k or by 14.6% with minor additional computation time.

Scene-Adaptive Readout and Decoding in Diffusion Driving VLAs

原文摘要

Diffusion driving vision-language-action models repeatedly execute the backbone at every denoising stage, incurring substantial inference cost, while it remains unclear whether all scenes require the same decoding computation. To distinguish when a trajectory becomes readable from how much further refinement it requires, we analyze trajectory readout across network depth and decoding progress. We identify a depth-decoding dissociation in which late-layer representations already support useful trajectory readout after the first forward sweep, whereas early-layer representations benefit more from continued decoding. We further find that both the preferred readout layer and decoding depth vary across scenes. Based on these observations, we propose a scene-adaptive readout and decoding framework. A scene-conditioned readout MoE adaptively weights and combines trajectory predictions from layer-specific late-layer representations after a single backbone sweep, while an adaptive decoding policy applies additional native refinement only when required by the scene. We evaluate our framework on two diffusion driving VLAs across the Waymo E2E and nuScenes benchmarks. Our method improves validation RFS by up to 0.56 while also improving test performance, and achieves an end-to-end speedup of up to $6.0\times$ on Waymo E2E, while consistently reducing trajectory error on nuScenes. These results demonstrate that scene-level readout and decoding allocation improves planning quality while avoiding unnecessary decoding. Our code is available at https://github.com/sjyu001/SARD

Back to the Future: Predicting Long-Horizon Dynamics with Retrospective Correction for Disturbance-Aware Retrieval

Jiwoong Choi, Haoyu Li, Yiwei Lyu

原文摘要

Retrieving objects from densely packed storage requires anticipating how contact disturbs surrounding objects when limited clearance prevents lifting the target over clutter. However, contact can propagate beyond the target's immediate neighbors, while accumulated prediction errors make learned dynamics unreliable over long planning horizons. We introduce DARE (Disturbance-Aware REtrieval), a geometry-aware relational dynamics framework that uses retrospective correction to improve long-horizon prediction for disturbance-aware retrieval. DARE encodes compact object descriptors and predicts action-conditioned disturbance propagation through object-level message passing. When a sparse observation becomes available, a learned corrector uses the prediction discrepancy to amend an earlier predicted state and reruns the intervening dynamics, propagating the correction through the predicted contact chain. These predictions guide a receding-horizon planner that balances retrieval progress against displacement and rotation of surrounding objects, permitting necessary contact while discouraging harmful disturbance. Experiments in planar and RoboCasa environments evaluate long-horizon prediction, generalization, and robustness for disturbance-aware retrieval in dense clutter. Do Embodied VLMs Actually Use Their Scene-Graph Memory?

原文摘要

Embodied agents that answer questions about their route need a memory of what they saw, and scene graphs are a natural form for it. A vision-language model (VLM) can receive such a graph as text or through a graph encoder, but accuracy alone cannot show whether the graph holds the episode's facts, reaches the model, or is actually relied on. In this diagnostic study, we introduce a graph-swap test for the last of these: each episode is given another episode's graph, and we count how many answers change. On an embodied question-answering benchmark with routes through two to seven rooms, we use it to compare ways of delivering scene-graph memory to a fine-tuned VLM. As text, the memory is used strongly, adding 30 points on route questions. As a graph, it is not, and we trace why: the encoder preserves the information, but standard pooled and late fusion discard it. Giving each node its own input token recovers part of it, a gain of 8.3 points on route questions that the swap test confirms comes from the graph. The test also exposes a shortcut that accuracy hides: when the same facts appear in the text, the model ignores its graph. The test thus offers a cheap check of whether a VLM uses its scene-graph memory, and our analysis points to how that memory should be delivered.

4D Triangle Splatting Reconstruction of Dynamic Endoscopic Scenes from Monocular Videos

原文摘要

Robust 4D reconstruction of deformable endoscopic scenes from monocular videos remains challenging due to non-rigid tissue deformation, illumination changes, occlusions, and unknown camera trajectories. Reliable dynamic reconstruction of endoscopies could significantly enhance visualization, diagnostic accuracy and intraoperative guidance of minimally invasive procedures. We propose SurgicalTS, a self-supervised triangle-splatting framework for dynamic endoscopic scene reconstruction from static monocular cameras. The scene is represented by a canonical set of triangles jointly optimized with a deformation network. We introduce a quaternion-based deformation model, an improved color parametrization, spatio-temporal priors, and a redefined initialization strategy that improves completeness under occlusions. Extensive evaluation on challenging in-vivo endoscopy videos from diverse procedures shows that SurgicalTS successfully models soft-tissue deformations and tool-tissue interactions over time, while consistently outperforming state-of-the-art methods. Our method also reduces training times while maintaining competitive geometric and photometric accuracy results, highlighting the effectiveness of quaternion-based deformation modelling with physical consistency for robust and efficient 4D reconstruction of endoscopic scenes.

Answering Without Arriving: An Evidence Audit for Embodied Question Answering

Shubh Garg, Divyansh Pandey, Niyati Rawal, Vedant Khandelwal, Amit Sheth

原文摘要

Embodied question answering asks an agent to navigate, observe, and then answer questions about what it saw, yet answer accuracy alone cannot tell whether any of this happened. A plausible answer can come from the question, the room label, or the answer choices, and a correct answer does not show that the supporting observation was ever made. We present a multi-room benchmark whose 200 test episodes and 800 questions are stratified by route extent, with an evaluation ladder that holds the questions fixed while varying only the evidence supplied to the answerer, from text-only probes through closed-loop agents to replay of the reference trajectory. Questions are generated from symbolic records of rooms, visible objects, and frames, so every answer can be traced to the observations that support it. A closed-loop vision-language agent reaches no target in 200 episodes yet answers 45.5% of questions, within 0.1 points of the same model given no images; replaying the reference trajectory raises the same model to 57.4%, so the evidence exists along the route but is not gathered. A family-level audit then shows that access to evidence is not the same as use of it. Four of eight families are largely answerable from text, one cites frames that cannot establish its own answer, and the oracle conditions reach 59.5% on Rooms-visited by counting the supplied images. Evidence acquisition, answer coverage, and shortcut sensitivity must therefore be established before an accuracy gain can be credited to memory.
