AI 速览:该论文提出一种多基地ISAC框架,利用残差与注意力增强的深度神经网络从杂波污染观测中直接增强目标响应,以提升目标位置与速度估计的鲁棒性。

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) systems using 5G and beyond signals of opportunity enable joint wireless sensing and communication using shared infrastructure and spectrum resources. While multistatic ISAC can increase sensing coverage with spatially distributed receivers, dense and dynamic clutter can significantly degrade bistatic range and Doppler estimation, leading to errors in target localization and velocity estimation. This paper presents a multistatic ISAC framework with clutter suppression for high-fidelity estimation of target position and velocity. Distributed clutter is modeled with randomly located scatterers with varying Doppler spreads and radar cross sections to capture dense and dynamic clutter effects. A broad range of conventional signal processing baselines are evaluated for clutter suppression, showing limited robustness under strong clutter conditions. To address this limitation, deep learning-based clutter suppression methods are introduced to improve robustness against dense and dynamic clutter by employing residual and attention-enhanced deep neural network architectures that directly enhance target responses from clutter-contaminated observations. These methods substantially outperform conventional approaches in target position and velocity estimation across diverse clutter conditions in multistatic ISAC.

Research project 6G NeXt is considering true 3D holography as a use case, setting requirements on the communication as well as the computing infrastructure. In a future holographic communication service, clients are widely spread in the network and cooperatively interact with each other. Especially for holographic communication high processing power is required as well. This makes a high-speed distributed backbone computing infrastructure, which realizes the concept of split computing, inevitable. Furthermore, tight integration between processing facilities and wireless networks is required in order to provide an immersive user experience. This paper illustrates true 3D holographic communication and its requirements. Afterward, an appropriate solution approach is elaborated. Here, novel technological approaches are discussed based on a proposed overall communication and computing architecture.

Confidence-Aware Speed-over-Ground Estimation from Doppler Spectra via Reconstruction-Based Representation Learning

Malte Stelzer, Marvin Sach, Timo Bartels, Dinu Mihailescu-Stoica, Sören Kohnert, Florian Poprawa, Marc Zeller, Tim Fingscheidt

Reliable speed-over-ground estimation from ground-facing Doppler spectra is essential for mobile platforms such as railway systems. Classical signal-processing approaches can provide accurate estimates under favorable conditions, but often degrade in challenging conditions. We propose confidence-aware speed-over-ground estimation trained on rail-domain data that estimates speed over ground and frame-level confidence from Doppler spectra with several novel contributions: First, we transfer the idea of exploiting a reconstruction task by an autoencoder for performance estimation from previous work to Doppler RaDAR. Second, we append a speed-over-ground estimation head operating on the autoencoder's latent space features. Third, we omit the reconstruction decoder during inference but add a low-cost dedicated confidence head for frame-wise error-bound estimation. Fourth, we reveal how noise augmentation training can provide high robustness to the method. Experiments show that our approach improves speed estimation accuracy over classical baselines while providing informative confidence estimates that indicate the reliability of individual predictions, even under adverse signal conditions.

Sampling Method for Generalized Graph Signals With Pre-Selected Vertices via DC Optimization

Keitaro Yamashita, Kazuki Naganuma, Shunsuke Ono

This paper proposes a method for vertex-wise aggregation sampling of a broad class of graph signals, designed to attain the best possible recovery based on the generalized sampling theory. This is achieved by designing a sampling operator by an optimization problem, which is inherently non-convex, as the best possible recovery imposes a rank constraint. An existing method for vertex-wise aggregation sampling is able to control the number of active vertices but cannot incorporate prior knowledge of mandatory or avoided vertices. To address these challenges, we formulate the operator design as a problem that handles a constraint on the number of active vertices and prior knowledge on specific vertices for sampling, mandatory inclusion or exclusion. We transformed this constrained problem into a difference-of-convex (DC) optimization problem by using the nuclear norm and a DC penalty for vertex selection. To solve this, we develop a convergent solver based on the general double-proximal gradient DC algorithm. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated through experiments on various graph signal models, including real-world data, showing superior performance in the recovery accuracy compared to existing methods.

Measuring the Value of Communication in Multi-Agent Tracking Under Finite-Rate Belief Sharing

Danial Dehghani, Maximilian Lübke, Zahra Seifaei, Norman Franchi

This paper investigates the value of communica- tion (VoC) in cooperative multi-agent tracking under rate- constrained information exchange. Although prior work has studied distributed tracking, quantized communication, and robust fusion, it remains unclear at what communication rate most of the achievable tracking gain is obtained, beyond which additional communication resources yield only marginal benefit. We consider stationary agents that observe a moving target through heterogeneous range and bearing measurements, perform local extended Kalman filtering (EKF), quantize their posterior state means, and fuse exchanged information via covariance intersection (CI). Performance is evaluated versus communication rate relative to no-communication baselines, a centralized oracle, and a CI-perfect reference. The results show that communication is not uniformly beneficial: very low rates can degrade performance due to coarse quantization, whereas moderate rates recover most of the achievable gain. In the considered scenario, increasing the rate from 4 to 12 bit/s per agent reduces the root-mean-square error (RMSE) from 13.93 m to 6.35 m, while a further increase to 32 bit/s per agent improves it only marginally to 5.93 m. This reveals a clear knee region at moderate rates, beyond which the remaining loss is mainly due to the conservatism of the fusion architecture. Overall, the proposed framework characterizes low-rate degradation, communication-efficient operation, and diminishing returns, while highlighting the joint role of rate and sensing geometry in determining communication benefit.

Discovering shared interpretable operations in image compression autoencoders

Caroline Mazini Rodrigues, Nicolas Keriven, Thomas Maugey

With the increasing adoption of deep learning for applications such as image compression, improvements in the rate-distortion trade-off have been achieved at the cost of increasingly larger and more opaque ''black-box'' models. Autoencoders are among the most widely used architectures for this task; however, without a clear understanding of their internal behavior, these models tend to grow in complexity to achieve more performance gains. In this paper, we investigate whether universal behaviors can be detected from the internal operations of bias-free autoencoders through Jacobian analysis. If such behaviors exist, they may be extracted to design low-complexity image compression models inspired by high-complexity deep learning architectures.

Secure Wireless Communications with Flexible Reflectors: Joint Position and Rotation Optimization for Physical Layer Security

Miao Jiang, Xike Wang, Yiqing Li, Guangchi Zhang

By exploiting the spatial selectivity of wireless channels, physical layer security (PLS) protects confidential wireless transmissions. Flexible reflectors (FRs), which are passive metallic plates mounted on movable platforms, offer a low-cost and low-complexity solution for reshaping the propagation environment. However, their potential for secrecy-oriented signal propagation shaping has not been explored. In this paper, we study an FR-aided secure communication over non-line-of-sight links and jointly optimize the positions and rotations of FRs to maximize the secrecy rate under geometric reflection and mutual-blocking constraints. For the single-FR case, we propose a Fibonacci segmentation search (FSS) method, which partitions the feasible region into multiple unimodal intervals and obtains the optimal solution with Fibonacci search over the unimodal intervals. To reduce the computational overhead, we also propose a low-complexity cross-entropy search (CES) method, which employs Gaussian mixture model-based adaptive importance sampling to localize promising search intervals before deterministic refinement. After deriving the blocked placement interval induced by the deployed FRs and integrating it into a sequential deployment scheme, we extend the FSS and CES methods to the multi-FR case. Simulation results show that our proposed FSS method achieves significant secrecy rate performance gains over various benchmark schemes, and our proposed CES method achieves a favorable runtime-performance tradeoff. These results indicate that FRs provide a low-cost and reconfigurable mechanism for PLS.

Sensing Fast and Distant Targets in Overspread Channels with Zak-OTFS and Modular Arithmetic

Andrea Novero, Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, Danish Nisar, Saif Khan Mohammed, Michele Zorzi, Robert Calderbank

Delay-Doppler (DD) modulations, such as Zak-transform-based orthogonal time frequency space (Zak-OTFS) modulation, represent the channel as a sparse set of delay and Doppler shifts, which makes them well suited for radar sensing. Sensing with a single DD frame, however, is unambiguous only when the channel spread factor, i.e., the product of the delay and Doppler spreads, is below one. Long-range mobility scenarios, including drones, airplanes, low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, and underwater acoustic links, typically violate this crystallization condition, so that a single frame aliases the target delays, Doppler shifts, or both. Existing methods add a time-frequency pilot to a conventional DD frame and resolve the aliasing in only one dimension. We propose a frame design that combines multiple DD bases with different delay and Doppler periods, which together cover an overspread channel, on the same bandwidth and frame size. For two frames, we show that modular arithmetic on the wrapped peak positions uniquely recovers each target by pairing the peaks through their common projection and their gains, and we derive the condition under which this pairing is ambiguous. We implement the design with two superimposed Zak-OTFS frames and propose two receivers: dual-frame sensing (DS), which performs the joint detection directly, and DS with cross-pilot cancellation (DS-XC), which additionally cancels the cross-pilot interference, re-estimates the gains by joint least squares, and removes ghost targets. Both receivers keep a detection rate close to one as the spread factor grows, and DS-XC also achieves the lowest false-alarm rate and channel normalized mean squared error (NMSE). In a 100 km drone scenario, DS-XC detects 98% of the targets, compared with 81% for the best baseline, with a complexity that grows near-linearly with the time-bandwidth product for a fixed number of targets.

MIRAGE: A GPU-Accelerated IQ-Level Channel Emulator for Real-Time Wireless Digital Twins

Ali Saeizadeh, Angelo Feraudo, Avaneeth Anil, Leonardo Bonati, Pedram Johari, Tommaso Melodia

Wireless digital twins enable network policies to be evaluated before deployment, but reproducing channel effects within a running protocol stack requires continuous waveform processing under strict timing constraints. We present MIRAGE, a GPU-accelerated channel emulator that applies propagation effects directly to in-phase and quadrature samples exchanged by software 5G New Radio stacks. MIRAGE combines batched multiuser, multiantenna filtering with timestamped shared-memory transport and radio-driver integrations for OpenAirInterface and OCUDU. External propagation models supply channel responses asynchronously, while versioned buffers ensure consistent coefficients within each processing interval. Experiments on one NVIDIA H100 GPU evaluate waveform accuracy, processing time, channel updates, and full-stack traffic delivery. At 61.44 million samples per second, eight single-antenna links, four two-by-two links, and one four-by-four link meet the tested 0.5 ms bidirectional processing criterion. Waveform errors remain within one integer quantization step per component, with no mixed coefficient versions across 16.7 million analyzed slots. Integration with the X5G testbed enables slice resource allocations to be evaluated before deployment. Both evaluated slices ultimately satisfy their throughput caps, requiring one physical reconfiguration under line-of-sight conditions and four under non-line-of-sight conditions. These results demonstrate full-stack policy evaluation and expose prediction errors affecting transfer to a physical network.

Differentiable Systematic Resampling for Variational Sequential Monte Carlo

Fredrik Cumlin, Saikat Chatterjee

Particle filters are a standard tool for nonlinear state estimation, but their resampling step is discrete, preventing gradient-based learning in variational sequential Monte Carlo. We introduce Differentiable Systematic Resampling (DSR), a temperature-controlled relaxation of systematic resampling, that preserves the CDF-ordered, banded structure of systematic resampling while enabling full gradient flow. DSR converges to exact systematic resampling as the temperature vanishes, and we prove a pointwise exponential convergence rate for the induced bias. Compared to optimal-transport-based differentiable resampling, DSR avoids iterative solvers and has substantially lower computational overhead. Experiments on stochastic dynamical systems and real-world handwriting data show that DSR achieves comparable or superior filtering and dynamics learning performance.

Continuous-time nonlinear closed-loop in-memory computing for high-accuracy massive MIMO detection

Piergiulio Mannocci, Giacomo Pedretti, Giacomo Larelli, Fabian Böhm, Thomas Van Vaerenbergh

Analog in-memory computing (IMC) has emerged as a promising approach for accelerating matrix operations by exploiting the intrinsic physics of memory arrays. To date, however, most IMC architectures have focused on linear algebra workloads in which computation is encoded in the equilibrium state of a physical system. Extending these principles to nonlinear optimization remains challenging and typically relies on iterative algorithms composed of repeated linear operations. Here, we introduce a continuous-time nonlinear closed-loop IMC architecture for box-constrained zero-forcing (BCZF) decoding in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The proposed architecture embeds the decoding problem directly within the dynamics of a nonlinear feedback network of memory arrays and supply-limited operational amplifiers, allowing solutions to emerge through continuous-time physical optimization. We derive a compact analytical model of the circuit and show that its trajectories minimize an equivalent energy function. Experimental emulation using a fabricated IMC chip confirms the predicted dynamics under realistic hardware nonidealities for up to 16x16 MIMO systems. To overcome the finite precision of analog hardware, we extend mixed-precision iterative refinement from linear algebra to nonlinear continuous-time optimization, enabling reliable detection of high-order modulation formats including 1024-QAM. Benchmark projections indicate operation from ultra-low-energy approximate decoding to high-accuracy massive MIMO detection. Together, these results extend closed-loop IMC from equilibrium-based linear algebra to continuous-time nonlinear optimization and establish a pathway toward efficient physical accelerators for high-accuracy wireless communications.

Metropolized backward sampling for conditional sequential Monte Carlo

Adrien Corenflos

Particle Gibbs samplers with backward sampling are widely used for sampling the smoothing distribution of state-space models, but, with few particles, the new trajectory often coincides with the current one at many time steps. A known but rarely used remedy replaces the random selection of the final particle by a Metropolis--Hastings move which avoids the current particle. We show that, with backward sampling, this remedy only helps at the last time steps, because its effect on the update rates decays geometrically with the distance to the final time. We propose instead Metropolized backward sampling, which makes such a move at every step of the backward pass, forcibly switching trajectories whenever possible. Additionally, we introduce a coupled version which prevents proposing the current trajectory, maximizing the chances of an actual switch versus the current trajectory and performing perfect sampling when the state-space model has no observations, a feature not shared by backward sampling. We prove that, at every time step, both methods dominate backward sampling as they update the state more often and have smaller lag-one autocorrelations than it does. Our methods are drop-in replacements for backward sampling, and can be used to improve any particle Gibbs sampler.

REVBRAIN: Real-time Probabilistic EEG Forecasting Using Residual Vector Quantization

Hanna Pankka, Jaakko Lehtinen, Timo Roine

Real-time forecasting of resting-state EEG signals is required by applications like brain-state-dependent stimulation, where computer generated actions are coupled with ongoing neural oscillations. Recently, the deep learning model WaveNet was proposed for the forecasting task. It shows superior accuracy compared to the prevailing method, the linear autoregressive (AR) model, and provides a built-in uncertainty measure due to its probabilistic modeling framework. However, inference using WaveNet is too slow for real-time use due to its sample-by-sample autoregressive operation: a single forecast requires evaluating the model tens or hundreds of times depending on the length of the prediction window. In this paper, we present REVBRAIN, a probabilistic deep learning method that produces forecasts in real time by generating the forecast over the whole prediction horizon at once. This is achieved by tokenizing the output space using residual vector quantization (RVQ) and generating forecasts over the items in the tokenized space. We tested REVBRAIN for forecasting 200 ms of EEG time series in the alpha-frequency band (8-13 Hz) and compared our results against WaveNet model. We found that REVBRAIN achieved real-time inference on a laptop GPU and an over $50\times$ speedup compared to WaveNet, while reaching superior prediction accuracy. By achieving real-time inference speed, REVBRAIN enables incorporating accurate and probabilistic EEG forecasting into BCI applications, opening up new ways for investigating the functioning of the human brain.

Is Dual Polarization Always Optimal? Unlocking New Spatial Degrees of Freedom

Adrian Agustin, Xavier Mestre, Carlos Suárez García, Alberto Pellon Sancho

Current wireless communication systems are designed based on channel models obtained under the assumption of far-field operation, where electromagnetic waves can be approximated by a planar wave. In those circumstances, dualpolarized antennas seem to be the optimal solution for maximizing the spectral efficiency. However, the recent research on XLMIMO systems represents a paradigm shift, since communication may take place in the near-field and an additional degree of freedom can be achieved. This work presents a modular, lowcost tripolarized antenna at 2.4 GHz band, that is used to experimentally validate theoretical findings about tripolarized antennas, which are commonly based on orthogonal infinitesimal dipoles. The evaluation is carried out in two indoor scenarios and one outdoor scenario, with transmitter comprising multiple tripolarized antennas and a receiver equipped with a single tripolarized antenna. We show that this type of antenna can increase the number of spatial streams up to three or extend the region where terminals are able to achieve two spatial streams

Progressive-Observation Physical-Layer Fingerprinting for Efficient Open-Set Ethernet Authentication

Chenming Zhang, Jiaxiang Geng, Aiqun Hu, Azzedine Boukerche, Peng Sun

Physical-layer fingerprinting (PLF) has emerged as a promising authentication approach for Internet of Things devices. However, most PLF systems acquire and process a fixed-length waveform for every authentication query, burdening resource-constrained edge nodes. To address this issue, we propose a progressive-observation PLF method that adapts the waveform length to each query. Specifically, a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) first rejects clearly unknown devices from a short observation. Spectral matching then accepts clearly registered devices from a slightly longer observation. Only ambiguous queries proceed to the same matching on the full-length waveform, reducing both data acquisition and computation. Because fingerprints drift across days, we also design an adaptive calibration algorithm to avoid retraining the CNN. The algorithm realigns the features and decision thresholds using a few current-day references from registered devices. We evaluate the method with 100BASE-TX Ethernet devices of two controller types on held-out days. Compared with fixed-length processing, it keeps the false rejection and false acceptance rates equal or lower for both controller types on both days. It also reduces the waveform data per query by 75.1% and the CPU processing time on a Raspberry Pi 5 by 73.7% on average. With the same monitoring bandwidth, an edge node can therefore serve about four times as many authentication queries.

Forward-Backward Map Matching for Airborne Magnetic Anomaly Navigation

Joseph O'Leary, Tapio Simula, Tom Kimpson, Corey Davey, Wenchao Li, Andrew D. Greentree, Allison Kealy

Airborne magnetic anomaly navigation provides a passive, unjammable alternative to Global Navigation Satellite Systems positioning by matching magnetometer measurements against a lithospheric magnetic anomaly map. Existing map-matching algorithms either assume a Gaussian posterior (extended Kalman filter), require Monte Carlo sampling (particle filter), or discard posterior uncertainty in favour of a single optimal path (Viterbi algorithm). Here we formulate map matching as inference on a chain-structured factor graph and solve it segment by segment using the forward-backward algorithm, which yields a discrete posterior over candidate positions and its Shannon entropy $H_t$ at time $t$. Over the \texttt{Renfrew\_395} map, $10^3$ synthetic trials yield a median position error of $32.7$ m, $91\%$ below the median inertial drift of $362$ m. On these trials and $10^3$ flight paths, the median error is $43\%$ below the extended Kalman filter and particle filter. Across these paths, a threshold on segment-level entropy detects $47\%$ of segments with errors above two map cells and $94\%$ of those above three, at a $10\%$ false-alarm rate. The foregoing results indicate that $H_t$ provides a truth-free diagnostic of map-conditioned navigation ambiguity.

A general extractor for coherent patterns across time-frequency measurements

Nathaniel Chen, Kouroche Bouchiat, Peter Steiner, Andrew Rothstein, David Smith, Max Austin, Mike van Zeeland, Marie Roch 等 10 位作者

Scientific discovery increasingly depends on finding meaningful patterns within volumes of sensor data too large for manual inspection. Existing time-frequency event extractors are often engineered or trained on manually labeled examples for each instrument, which can be laborious and difficult to adapt to new environments. To address this, we introduce TokEye, a reference-free method that learns a general criterion for coherent structure from heterogeneous fusion measurements. A model developed under this method, without retraining, can extract signals from various other fields including marine bioacoustics and wideband radar. It recovers 82.5\% of expert-annotated stellarator signals, detects 78\% of dolphin whistles, and identifies radar events with 81.5\% average precision across six benchmarks, while processing full experimental spectrograms in under one second on a GPU. This transfer across unrelated sensors and physical systems reveals common exploitable structure in time-frequency measurements and establishes a scalable foundation for automated scientific signal discovery.

The LQ Digital Mode Family: Protocol Architecture and Reference Specification for Weak-Signal Communications

Luis Quesada

This paper introduces LQ8, an open-source weak-signal digital mode for amateur radio that completes structured two-way contacts in 4 transmissions (60 s), achieving a 1.50x speedup over canonical 6-transmission exchanges (90 s) and 1.25x over 5-transmission RR73 exchanges (75 s) while preserving complete bidirectional exchange of Maidenhead grid locators, signal reports, and mutual acknowledgments. By replacing fixed-width message-type headers with variable-length prefix codes matched to physical-layer bit budgets, LQ8 packs the answering station's grid locator and measured signal report into a single 77-bit reply. In multi-station pileup operations, LQ8 confirms up to two answering stations simultaneously within a single-carrier 50.0 Hz transmission with a 0.0 dB RF power-splitting penalty, achieving a peak rate of 240 QSOs/h in continuous pileup (4x over single-carrier FT8; 480 QSOs/h dual-carrier) while retaining -21.0 dB SNR sensitivity. The protocol family also defines three extended profiles (LQ16, LQ4, and LQ2) tailored for extreme sensitivity, VHF/UHF contesting, and fast-burst channels.

Federated Learning for Semantic Communications over Multiple Access Channels

Yalin E. Sagduyu, Tugba Erpek, Yi Shi

This paper presents a federated learning (FL) framework for semantic communication (SemCom) over the multiple access channel (MAC), where multiple distributed transmitters simultaneously convey semantic information to a common receiver using end-to-end learned semantic representations. Semantic feature extraction, compression, wireless transmission, and semantic inference are jointly optimized through FL-based SemCom. Unlike conventional SemCom systems that train users independently, simultaneous semantic transmissions over the MAC enable concurrent training of multiple transmitters within the same transmission interval, thereby reducing training overhead and channel usage. Federated semantic aggregation is incorporated with shared and personalized encoder components, allowing transmitters with limited local training data to benefit from semantic representations learned from transmitters possessing larger datasets while preserving local adaptation. Evaluated using the CIFAR-10 dataset over fading channels, the proposed approach maintains high semantic inference accuracy under shared wireless access and significantly improves performance under severe data imbalance. In the meantime, simultaneous semantic transmissions can significantly reduce training overhead while preserving robust semantic performance across distributed transmitters with heterogeneous local datasets. These results highlight the potential of combining FL and SemCom to support scalable and communication-efficient edge intelligence in future wireless networks.

Understanding Large Language Models as Numerical Optimizers

Lingyun Guo, Ali Bereyhi

Large language models (LLMs) have emerged as potential tools for numerical optimization. Despite promising results, their intrinsic optimization capabilities and limitations remain poorly understood, particularly in high dimensions. This paper investigates the ability of LLMs to exploit mathematical problem structures and generate feasible, near-optimal solutions. We develop an evaluation framework that distinguishes solution quality from execution failures, including numerical inaccuracies, constraint violations, and output-format errors. Using representative problems from convex optimization, fractional programming, and constrained projection, we assess LLM performance against deterministic reference solvers across different dimensions. Our results reveal that LLMs can capture useful optimization structures and produce near-optimal solutions, even when their outputs fail to satisfy numerical or formatting requirements. However, reliability deteriorates with increasing problem dimension and depends strongly on the underlying optimization structure. To further investigate the limitations, we deploy an iterative refinement mechanism that provides targeted feedback on feasibility and solution quality. The results demonstrate that iterative refinement substantially improves reliability and extends the range of problem dimensions over which LLMs produce valid solutions. Nevertheless, persistent numerical and structural errors limit their applicability as standalone optimizers. These findings provide insights into the capacity and limits of LLM-based optimization and motivate hybrid approaches that combine LLM reasoning with deterministic numerical verification.

TERRA: Task-Oriented Edge AI for Regional Fire Detection with Identity-Free Reporting

Mohammad Kazemi, Julie A. McCann

Distributed fire-monitoring systems may involve many sensing devices reporting over a shared uplink, even though the operational objective is often to identify regions exhibiting evidence of fire rather than to recover device-specific measurements. We introduce TERRA (Task-Oriented Edge Representation and Regional Aggregation), an edge-AI framework that combines task-oriented local inference, identity-free region-tagged reporting, and permutation-invariant regional evidence aggregation. TERRA supports two reporting modes: TERRA-Score, in which each device communicates a quantized local fire probability, and TERRA-Feature, in which it communicates a compact learned representation for receiver-side aggregation using a permutation-invariant DeepSets model. Using all 15 numerical sensing modalities of the distributed indoor EN54 fire-alarm dataset as a proof-of-concept testbed, we evaluate regional inference for an episode-level fire-scenario target under repetition-disjoint three-fold cross-validation. We study representation size, task-payload quantization, report availability, and robustness to missed and false recovered messages. With nine reports and perfect message recovery, TERRA-Feature achieves mean AUPRC 0.990 using a 24-bit task payload, while TERRA-Score achieves 0.987 using only 6 bits; both attain an MDR of 1.81% at FAR $\leq$1%. TERRA-Feature achieves slightly higher AUPRC under reliable recovery, whereas the more compact TERRA-Score is less sensitive to increasing false-message contamination.

We compare three secrecy-coding schemes for the degraded wiretap binary symmetric channel (BSC) in the finite-blocklength regime: (i) polar wiretap coset codes, (ii) PAC codes used as wiretap coset codes, and (iii) the invertible-extractor (IE) framework of Bellare--Tessaro. Our comparison is empirical and uses a common semantic-secrecy metric (distinguishing advantage). For polar coset codes, we compute Eve's polarized bit-channel capacities (via the Tal--Vardy construction) to obtain explicit finite-length upper bounds on mutual-information leakage, yielding strong secrecy bounds. For PAC coset codes, we prove that Eve's synthesized bit-channels are equivalent to those of polar codes (up to a permutation), so the same leakage bounds apply; we then convert these strong-secrecy bounds into semantic-secrecy guarantees for symmetric wiretap channels. For the IE scheme, we use the closed-form semantic-secrecy bounds already established. Finally, we report finite-length results that jointly characterize (a) semantic-secrecy guarantees against Eve and (b) frame-error-rate performance at Bob. Our simulations indicate that Polar and PAC codes exhibit comparable reliability performance under the considered finite-length settings, while PAC codes retain the same secrecy bounds as Polar codes. More broadly, our results highlight that non-universal designs of wiretap codes provide tighter secrecy guarantees than universal design based on invertible extractors.

Universal Short-Time Fourier Transform: Data-Adaptive Window-Length Selection for Time-Frequency Analysis

Manan Mittal, Kanad Sarkar, Ryan M. Corey, John R. Buck, Andrew C. Singer

The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) characterizes the local frequency content of time-varying signals by evaluating the discrete Fourier transform over a sliding analysis window. The STFT is governed by a fundamental resolution trade-off: a short window localizes rapid transients in time at the cost of frequency resolution, whereas a long window resolves closely spaced harmonics at the expense of temporal resolution. The Universal Short-Time Fourier Transform (U-STFT) resolves this trade-off sequentially by modeling the analysis window duration as a data-adaptive state variable that indexes the number of hops included in the current observation interval. At each frame, a bank of candidate window durations is scored using normalized order-three Rényi entropy to quantify joint time-frequency concentration. A window length trellis aggregates the resulting $\mathcal{O}(3^M)$ candidate window schedules with linear complexity per frame, guaranteeing a cumulative mix-loss regret bound of $\mathcal{O}((k+1)\log M)$ relative to any hindsight window schedule with $k$ resolution changes over $M$ frames. By linearity of the Fourier transform, posterior expectation across the candidate bank yields a single spectrum equivalent to an STFT evaluated with a data-adaptive effective window, while an envelope-normalized synthesis stream guarantees exact overlap-add reconstruction. Evaluations on synthetic and marine bioacoustic signals demonstrate adaptive resolution tracking, enhanced spectral concentration, and exact time-domain invertibility.

The Interference-Conjugate Transform: The Tightest Interference-Linear Surrogate for Power Control, Scheduling and Beamforming in Wireless Networks

Ahmad Khan

Closed-form fractional programming (FP), weighted MMSE (WMMSE), and the 2026 surrogate-enhanced methods SEFP and XMMSE all maximize the weighted sum rate by iteratively maximizing a surrogate linear in the interference power. We show that this family admits a unique best member: the interference-conjugate transform (ICT), which replaces each rate term $\log(1+a/b)$ by $\max_{κ\ge0}[Ω(κa)-κb]$, where $Ω$ is the closed-form partial convex conjugate of the rate in the interference variable and the optimal multiplier is the interference price $a/(b(a+b))$. We prove that, for any fixed price, $Ω(κ\,\cdot)$ is the pointwise largest own-signal function compatible with a valid interference-linear lower bound, and that tightness at an anchor forces the price. Hence all four benchmark surrogates, which share this price and differ only in their own-signal term, are dominated pointwise by ICT. At SINR $γ$, the benchmarks' own-signal curvature exceeds the true curvature by factors behaving as $γ/2$ (FP/WMMSE) and $(\logγ)/2$ (SEFP/XMMSE), against $1+1/(γ(γ+2))$ for ICT, and this ordering carries over to the certified ascent per iteration and the asymptotic linear convergence rate. ICT yields closed-form updates at the benchmarks' per-iteration cost for single-antenna power control, uplink joint scheduling and power control, and multi-cell MISO beamforming, and the first solver-free algorithm for sum-least-$q$th-percentile rate maximization, via a $K$-dimensional convex dual with closed-form gradient and Hessian and a certified duality gap. In uplink scheduling, ICT improves proportional-fairness utility over FP by +7.03 and over SEFP by +3.35 (60/60 drops) using 18.7 iterations per slot vs. 49.7 and 38.0; in MISO beamforming with $M=8$, it reaches 99.9% of its final value in a median of 9 iterations vs. 16 (XMMSE) and 1160 (FP/WMMSE).

AuRaSim: A Ray-Tracing Based Automotive FMCW Radar Simulator for Dynamic Scenarios

Zhaoze Wang, Changxu Zhang, Tai Fei, Christopher Grimm, Yi Jin, Claas Tebruegge, Markus Gardill

Modern simulators can generate synthetic camera and LiDAR data with accurate annotations for downstream tasks. In contrast, automotive radar simulation remains less mature because it requires not only a 3D engine to model dynamic objects in the scenes but also electromagnetic material properties, antenna configurations, wave propagation mechanisms, and coherent signal synthesis. Existing frameworks are either proprietary or overly simplified, limiting the scalability of radar raw measurements. This paper presents AuRaSim, a ray-tracing-based automotive frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar simulation framework for dynamic scenarios. Rather than implementing all components from scratch, AuRaSim builds on Blender for efficient dynamic-scene construction and Sionna RT for graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerated electromagnetic ray tracing, while introducing radar-specific adaptations for path-resolved propagation with complex coefficients, motion-aware Doppler modeling, and subsequently coherent multi-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) cube synthesis based on waveform configurations. Quantitative comparison between simulated and measured range-Doppler maps in digital-twin scenarios achieves a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.147 and a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 16.93 dB, demonstrating the accuracy and fidelity of the synthetic signal. AuRaSim therefore provides a complete and extensible platform for reproducible automotive radar simulation and research. Project homepage: https://wangzhaoze.github.io/aurasim.

JEPA-Inspired Latent Field Prediction for Sparse-Pilot MIMO-OFDM Channel Reconstruction

Yuzhi Yang, Brahim Mefgouda, Hang Zou, Lina Bariah, Anis Bara, Yuhuan Lu, Hao Zhang, Merouane Debbah

Accurate acquisition of full channel state information (CSI) is essential for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) wireless systems, while dense pilot-based estimation incurs substantial overhead. Directly minimizing the prediction error over raw CSI coefficients is fragile in realistic propagation environments, since small-scale fading, mobility, local scattering, and small spatial perturbations can induce large phase-sensitive variations. Nevertheless, wireless channels contain strong spatial, temporal, and frequency-domain correlations that can be more predictably represented in a latent propagation-field domain. Motivated by this observation, we propose a joint-embedding predictive architecture (JEPA)-inspired field world model, defined as a latent predictive model of the wireless propagation field, for sparse-pilot channel reconstruction. The model maps CSI observations into latent time-frequency tokens, predicts masked or future latent field states from historical multi-band context, and fuses the predicted latent prior with sparse noisy current pilots to reconstruct the full MIMO-OFDM channel. Ray-tracing experiments show that the proposed method improves normalized mean square error (NMSE) over pilot-only and direct reconstruction baselines, supporting latent field prediction as an effective prior for sparse-pilot channel acquisition.

It Takes Two Moments: Rigidity and Limits of Continuous Encoders for Over-the-Air Computation

Saeed Razavikia

We study over-the-air computation of functions, such as empirical variance, formed by combining two separately postprocessed sums of locally transformed observations. We consider continuous encoders subject to pointwise peak-power constraints over a single use of a complex multiple-access channel. With four or more transmitters, we identify conditions under which exact noiseless recovery forces every continuous encoder collection into a common affine structure that preserves both sums, reducing infinite-dimensional encoder design to selecting a finite set of coefficients. To quantify resilience against channel noise, we introduce a robustness score that measures the separation of noiseless received aggregates relative to variations in the desired function value. Within this characterized encoder family, we formulate robustness maximization as an exact convex semi-infinite program, eliminating rank constraints without a relaxation gap, and construct a decoder that attains the minimum uniform noise-amplification constant. For several function classes, including empirical variance, we derive closed-form robustness-optimal encoders and scores. Under mild regularity conditions, we also establish sharp limits on the Gaussian mean squared error at high signal-to-noise ratios and show how using the input distribution reduces average error at the expense of uniform robustness.

Negative Results for Reciprocity-Based Over-the-Air Split Learning Under Channel Aging: Stability, Alignment, and Geometry

Tianhao Guo, Xianzhong Li, Hao Luo

In reciprocity-based over-the-air split learning, channel aging rotates and attenuates the derivative signal returned to the transmitter. Seven case studies combine numerical forecasts, mechanism checks, and competing predictions. Near the correlation zero, an archived SGD comparison finds truncated inversion 0.000813 lower in cross-entropy than polar correction, with a paired 95% interval for the difference from -0.001853 to 0.000060, and a retained-mode quadratic proxy slightly favors truncation. Selecting the return port with the largest received power falls short of the predicted five-point alignment advantage over random selection at both tested spacings, gaining at most 0.97 points, while the local inverse relation between amplitude and phase gradient is supported. Seven specified interference-induced accuracy-collapse predictions are rejected, and independent zero-mean interference preserves the conditional mean under a fixed linear chain. Per-subcarrier correction and spherical-wavefront compensation do not deliver their predicted accuracy gains. Focusing leaves both methods near chance in a single-mode model and adds no observed gain in a model with a line-of-sight component plus scattering. A successful port assignment under nonsymmetric motion refutes an exact-symmetry requirement. The competing positioning-error prediction is supported. Gaussian rail jitter with a standard deviation of 0.383 wavelengths yields high terminal test accuracy, whereas a fixed bias of the same magnitude yields near-chance accuracy. These cases distinguish valid local physical relations from unsupported training forecasts through task support, noise injection, and update moments.

Deep Holes and Aperture: Sign Laws for the Empirical Correlation of Lattice-Sampled Random Wave Fields

Tianhao Guo, Hao Luo, Xianzhong Li, Yuzhi Yang

A Gaussian random wave field is sampled on a lattice within a bounded aperture. After displacement, re-indexing leaves a residual in the Voronoi cell. We study whether the empirical lag correlation has positive real part throughout the cell. For each realization in a single-output reciprocal link with noiseless over-the-air return, this is equivalent to the negative returned gradient being a descent direction for all residuals and differentiable losses with nonzero error signals. Return noise is treated exactly. For isotropic fields, ball-shaped apertures, unshifted lattice points, and dilations approaching the critical covering radius, every minimizer is a deep hole except with exponentially small probability. A Gaussian vector on the deep holes determines the limiting failure probability, with explicit covariance and lattice-independent limiting normalization. Square, hexagonal, simple cubic, and body-centered cubic lattices have two, three, four, and twelve sign classes. At fixed target failure probabilities below the critical limiting value, this covariance determines the exact leading aperture constant. When the margin and target failure probability vanish jointly, that constant is common to lattice shapes within each dimension. A cubic correction yields vanishing relative tail error in a moderate-deviation regime. A non-asymptotic two-sided aperture law has explicit constants. With a Rayleigh-faded specular path and positive diffuse margin, a failure floor occurs at every positive path power exactly when the cosine of its phase change is negative somewhere in the cell. The floor vanishes for all directions exactly when the covering radius is at most a quarter wavelength.
