Tadpole: Autoencoders as Foundation Models for 3D PDEs with Online Learning

Qiang Liu, Felix Koehler, Benjamin Holzschuh, Nils Thuerey

原文摘要

We introduce Tadpole, a novel foundation model for three-dimensional partial differential equations (PDEs) that addresses key challenges in transferability, scalability to high dimensionality, and multi-functionality. Tadpole is pre-trained as an autoencoder on synthetic 3D PDE data generated by an efficient online data-generation framework. This enables large-scale, diverse training without storage or I/O overhead, demonstrated by scaling to an equivalent of hundreds of terabytes of training data. By autoencoding single-channel spatial crops, Tadpole learns rich and transferable representations across heterogeneous physical systems with varying numbers of state variables and spatial resolutions. Although pre-trained solely as an autoencoder, Tadpole can be efficiently applied for multiple downstream tasks beyond reconstruction, including dynamics learning and generative modeling. For dynamics learning, we propose a novel parameter-efficient fine-tuning strategy that integrates low-rank adaptation, latent-space transformations, and reintroduced skip connections, achieving accurate temporal modeling with a minimal number of trainable parameters. Tadpole demonstrates strong fine-tuning performance across various downstream tasks, highlighting its versatility and effectiveness as a foundation model for 3D PDE learning. Source code and pre-trained weights of Tadpole are available at https://tum-pbs.github.io/tadpole/.

Biologically Inspired Predictive Gating Signed-Dyadic Coding for Mandarin Keyword Spotting

Zijian Zhou, Rui Liu, Rongxiang Nie, Rui Ma, Ziyao Zhang, Xin Du

原文摘要

In continuous spiking keyword spotting, temporally correlated acoustic frames can repeatedly trigger memory access and neural computation at a dense input interface, even when hidden activity is sparse. Predictive processing and sensory adaptation suggest retaining predictable input locally and responding selectively to deviations. Inspired by this mechanism, we propose Predictive Gating Signed-Dyadic Coding (PG). PG maintains a local prediction for each input channel and transmits an event only when the residual exceeds a learned threshold. Each event carries a sign and a finite power-of-two magnitude, and the receiver reconstructs it with fixed-point shifts and additions. In Mandarin keyword spotting, INPUT-PG reaches 90.00% accuracy while reducing mean SRAM reads by 33.87% and inference cycles by 32.77%. PG provides a hardware interface for research on low-power continuous speech processing and event-based sensory systems.

When is more search useful? An Empirical Study of Search Utility in Quality-Aware Decoding for Machine Translation

Javier Garcia Gilabert, Rico Sennrich, André F. T. Martins

原文摘要

Quality-Aware Decoding (QAD) improves machine translation through test-time scaling, generating multiple candidate translations and selecting the final output with a quality-aware decoder. Usually the same candidate budget N is spent on every source sentence, assuming that all inputs require the same amount of search. We show that this assumption does not hold and that the quality gain obtained from additional candidates varies across sentences. We study search utility through three quantities: total scaling gain, how much quality a sentence can gain from a much larger candidate pool; marginal scaling gain, the expected gain from generating one additional batch of candidates; and the sampling saturation point, the candidate budget required to realize most of the total scaling gain. We investigate two sources of information for predicting these quantities: signals available before candidate-set expansion, and statistics computed from the candidate pool accumulated during search. We find that sentence-level signals correlate with total scaling gain but are less informative about the sampling saturation point. In contrast, properties of the current candidate pool provide useful signals of marginal scaling gain. Finally, we show that these signals can identify sentences that obtain larger gains when additional search is selectively applied.

Variational Learning with Lie Group Exponential Families

Eren Mehmet Kıral, Thomas Möllenhoff, Koichi Tojo, Mohammad Emtiyaz Khan, Kenichi Bannai

原文摘要

Variational Bayesian learning for deep neural networks offers many potential benefits. The difficulty in implementation arises from constraints on the parameters of the variational distributions, as well as the need for low-variance gradient estimators. Our recent work proposes Lie group methods for multiplicative or affine groups that naturally overcome such difficulties. Lie groups are essentially parameter spaces with a binary operator such as addition or multiplication, which allows for natural updates within the parameter space. In this article, we streamline and extend our Lie group framework to any general Lie group, and give an explicit relation to standard natural-gradient variational learning methods such as the Bayesian learning rule (BLR). In particular, we prove that linear approximations of the Lie group algorithm give generalizations of the BLR. The key ingredient is the harmonic exponential family, a general class of Lie group exponential families associated to representations of Lie groups. Our work provides a systematic method to construct from such representations efficiently implementable algorithms for variational learning.

Detector-Guided Vocoder Training for Adversarial Text-to-Speech Synthesis

Jiayan Cui, Davide Salvi, Paolo Bestagini, Stefano Tubaro

原文摘要

In this paper, we propose a novel Text-to-Speech (TTS) framework designed to perform adversarial attacks against speech deepfake detection systems. Given a TTS model and a detector capable of classifying its outputs as synthetic, our approach fine-tunes the vocoder by integrating the detector into the TTS training loop. Unlike traditional adversarial methods that rely on post-hoc perturbations or external noise injection, our approach enables the generation of synthetic speech that is intrinsically adversarial, capable of lowering the target detector's reliability without requiring additional post-processing steps. We evaluate the framework in both white-box and black-box settings, showing its effectiveness against known and unseen detectors. We also propose a multi-detector strategy that allows the system to simultaneously learn to deceive multiple detectors, showcasing the scalability of the method. Experimental results confirm the efficacy of our approach, which has the potential to impact forensic security and detection countermeasures. At the same time, subjective listening tests reveal that the proposed method also enhances synthesized speech quality.

Exact Tie-Breaking and Tight Degree Bounds for Minimum-Degree Greedy on Interval Graphs

Ruize Zhao

原文摘要

We study tie-breaking in the minimum-degree greedy algorithm (MDG) for maximum independent set on interval graphs. Given an interval representation of an $n$-vertex graph, we compute the largest and smallest output sizes and construct executions attaining them in $O(n^3)$ time and $O(n^2)$ space. For maximum degree at most four, favorable tie-breaking gives a tight guarantee of $3/4$. For every maximum-degree bound of at least five, the guarantee drops to $2/3$. Both bounds are tight even on connected unit interval graphs whose output size is independent of tie-breaking. Together with the known optimality of favorable tie-breaking for maximum degree at most three, these results give a complete classification by degree bound.

Seed Recycling: Explicit Codes for Mixed Synchronization Errors Matching the Leading Term of the Gilbert--Varshamov Bound

Quan D. Bui, Shuche Wang, Manabu Hagiwara, Van Khu Vu

原文摘要

Correcting synchronization errors is one of the oldest problems in coding theory. In the mid-1960s, Levenshtein, and independently Ullman, showed that a single deletion can be corrected with $\log n+O(1)$ bits of redundancy, which is asymptotically optimal. For any fixed $t$, a Gilbert--Varshamov (GV) type argument shows that codes correcting $t$ deletions exist with redundancy $2t\log n+O_t(1)$. Achieving this classical GV-type bound explicitly has proved remarkably difficult. Explicit codes with redundancy $O_t(\log n)$ were first obtained by Brakensiek, Guruswami, and Zbarsky in 2016, half a century after Levenshtein, and Guruswami and Håstad matched the GV-type bound for two deletions only in 2021. For every fixed $t\ge 3$, the best explicit constructions still require roughly twice the GV-type redundancy: $(4t-1)\log n+o(\log n)$ for $t$ deletions and $4t\log n+O_t(\log\log n)$ for $t$ edits (insertions, deletions, and substitutions). We close this factor-of-two gap for every fixed $t$, even in the Damerau--Levenshtein model, which also allows adjacent transpositions. We construct explicit binary codes with deterministic polynomial-time encoding and decoding that correct any combination of at most $t$ such errors using $2t\log n+2t\log\log n+O_t(\log\log\log n)$ bits of redundancy. A single construction thus achieves the leading term of the classical GV-type bound simultaneously for deletions, edits, and Damerau--Levenshtein errors, extending the Guruswami--Håstad result from two deletions to every fixed $t$ and to substantially richer error models.

Fast, Cheap, and Fair? Evaluating Decision Models

Muhammad Uzair Ul Haq, Davide Rigoni, Alessandro Sperduti, Flavia Fabris

原文摘要

Industries are increasingly adopting AI-driven systems to automate a wide range of tasks, including high-stakes decisions in human resources, such as candidate screening and recruitment. This makes evaluating their fairness essential, particularly when decisions directly affect individuals' opportunities. Accordingly, the EU AI Act classifies recruitment AI systems as high-risk, imposing strict requirements on their deployment. In this context, compact ``System~1'' decision models offer a fast and cost-efficient alternative to general-purpose LLMs, yet their fairness remains largely unexplored. This article presents the first systematic bias and fairness audit of \jev{}, a typed-decision model targeting recruitment applications. The study evaluates how explicit demographic attributes and implicit candidate cues influence screening scores, rankings, and shortlisting outcomes. These effects are compared against a noise floor derived from name substitutions and typographical variations. The evaluation also examines output validity, latency, and cost. Counterfactual CV datasets and evaluation code are released for reproducibility.

Theory-guided relational learning for data product pricing: An interpretable meta-path-guided graph neural network approach

Ruize Gao, Feng Xiao, Jinpu Li, Ke Tang, Shaoze Cui

原文摘要

Data products are non-standardized and context-dependent, so their prices are jointly shaped by product attributes and contextual factors such as provider reputation, product comparability, and industry structure. We formulate data product pricing as a learning task over a heterogeneous information network spanning data products, providers, marketplaces, industries, and pricing modes, and design theory-grounded meta-paths, brand-based, similarity-based, industry-based, and hybrid, to characterize distinct pricing mechanisms. Building on this network, we propose a Meta-Path-Guided Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network (MPGNN), which learns path-specific representations, fuses them through an attention-based gate, and is further augmented with large language model-generated textual features. Empirical evaluation shows that MPGNN achieves statistically significant improvements over baseline models in both regression and classification across different pricing modes, and that provider-involving meta-paths dominate the learned weights, yielding predictive evidence consistent with a brand-equity-related pricing mechanism. The proposed framework combines predictive accuracy with theory-driven interpretability, offering a transferable methodological template for pricing other non-standardized digital assets.

SkillLens: Visual Skill Cards for Retrieval-Augmented GUI Action Prediction and On-Policy Distillation

Zhou Liu, Chenxu Zhang, Ligang Huang, Zeli Su, Zewei Pan, Changhang Tian, Zhaoyang Han, Xing Chen 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Graphical user interface (GUI) agents can reuse past interaction experience. We study how illustrated procedures support action prediction and students deployed without retrieval. We introduce SkillLens, which represents procedures, applicability cues, and interface views in a shared Visual Skill Card (VSC) schema. Retrieved cards provide a frozen executor with reference evidence alongside the current screen. CardDistill uses this schema to construct privileged teacher context from labeled training steps for on-policy distillation; the student learns from native inputs and requires no retrieval at deployment. With matched training data and update counts, students trained with full-card teachers improve step success rate by an average of 5.04 percentage points over those trained with compact-text teachers across three training seeds on 119 tasks from ten websites absent from training. An independent runtime control uses training-source memory and pre-action retrieval queries: full cards achieve 12/64 correct actions (18.75%) versus 4/64 (6.25%) for text-only cards. These results establish the value of the complete VSC teacher-context package for retrieval-free students and provide evidence for pre-action retrieval of illustrated procedures.

Dynamic Steiner Tree under Edge Updates

Jeff Giliberti, MohammadTaghi Hajiaghayi, Mohammad Mahdavi, Xinchen Yang

原文摘要

The Steiner tree problem is the canonical generalization of minimum spanning tree (MST). When connectivity is required only among a fixed subset of vertices (terminals), the goal is to maintain a minimum-cost tree connecting these terminals as the graph undergoes edge updates. While dynamic MST has been studied since the 1980s~[Frederickson, STOC'83, SICOMP'85], and the first sublinear-in-$n$ dynamic MST algorithm dates back almost thirty-five years to Eppstein, Galil, Italiano, and Nissenzweig~[FOCS'92, JACM'97], achieving sublinear-in-$n$ update time for dynamic Steiner tree has long remained open, as a single edge update can invalidate many routes in the underlying terminal metric closure. We present the first fully dynamic algorithm for Steiner tree that achieves a constant-factor approximation with sublinear-in-$n$ update time. For any fixed $0<ζ<1/2$, our deterministic algorithm maintains an $O_ζ(1)$-approximate Steiner tree for undirected graphs with polynomially bounded edge weights in $\widetilde O(n^{1/2+ζ})$ amortized update time, answering cost queries in $O(1)$ time, and reporting an explicit tree in $\widetilde O(n^{1+ζ})$ time. Our approach combines periodic terminal-metric rebuilds on a dynamic spanner with a top-tree dynamic program that localizes edge deletions and reconnects surviving components through a dynamic distance sparsifier. Along the way, we give a simpler randomized insertion-only algorithm with a better, explicit approximation ratio.

AttriSwarm: Orchestrating Agent Swarms for Cross-Page Visual Attribution

Suifeng Zhao, Zida Liu, Lei Sun, Xun Wang, Daojian Zeng, Jun Gao, Sujian Li

原文摘要

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) increasingly address knowledge-intensive tasks by integrating evidence scattered across multiple document pages into a final answer. Because such answers are synthesized from many pages, the link between the answer and its supporting visual evidence can become obscured, hindering verification and trust. Cross-page visual attribution is therefore essential: it requires identifying the supporting pages and localizing fine-grained evidence regions within them, thereby making multi-page reasoning transparent and auditable. Existing approaches either process multiple pages jointly or iteratively refine evidence within a single trajectory, risking cross-page context pollution and, for interactive methods, substantial sequential overhead. We introduce \textbf{AttriSwarm}, an agent-swarm framework that assigns these concerns to separate roles: a leader handles global cross-page reasoning, while subagents perform page-wise attribution in isolation and in parallel. To support training and evaluation, we construct \textbf{AttriDoc}, a cross-page QA dataset linking supporting pages to their annotated evidence regions, and use it for role-specific training of AttriSwarm, improving answer accuracy, page-level $F_1$, and region-level IoU over its training-free counterpart by an average of 18.94, 29.34, and 23.04 percentage points, respectively, across three open-source backbones and three datasets.

Beyond Augmentation: Score-Guided Pathological Prior for EEG-based Depression Detection

Xiaojing Chen, Jingqi Cheng, Xu Zhao, Wan Jiang, Jingjing Wu

原文摘要

Deep learning-based Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) detection using Electroencephalography (EEG) is fundamentally constrained by the "small-sample dilemma." Prevailing generative data augmentation methods not only incur heavy computational overhead but also risk introducing synthetic noise, thereby blurring classification boundaries. To challenge the traditional "data quantity first" convention, we propose a novel framework "Beyond Augmentation": Score-Guided Classification (SGC). SGC does not synthesize pseudo-samples; instead, it utilizes an unsupervised generative network architecture to model the structural and statistical anomaly degrees of samples, serving as the core "Pathological Prior". This prior, after robust normalization, is explicitly fused with deep feature representations, thereby precisely guiding the classifier's decision boundary. Furthermore, to dynamically adapt to varying channel configurations, we propose a Cross-Channel Spatial Adaptation module, utilizing a spatial mapping mechanism to effectively resolve the hardware heterogeneity of mismatched channels in multi-center datasets. Extensive experiments on the Mumtaz2016 and high-density MODMA datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and exceptional generalizability of our method under the challenging "zero data augmentation" setting and at "zero sample synthesis cost". 3DGS-VBench+ and 3DGSV-Assessor: A Multi-Dimensional Subjective Benchmark and a Reference-Flexible Objective Model for 3D Gaussian Splatting Video Quality Assessment

Yuke Xing, William Gordon, Jiarui Wang, Yujie Zhang, Guangtao Zhai, Yiling Xu

原文摘要

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables real-time novel view synthesis (NVS), but its heavy storage makes compression essential, and both training and compression introduce representation-specific distortions. Since generative compression in many methods treats geometric and color attributes via different parameters, it can induce dimension-specific distortions, motivating multi-dimensional assessment. Moreover, real-world captures generally lack an aligned ground-truth video for a synthesized, continuous camera trajectory, leaving only sparse captured views as references. To enable multi-dimensional quality assessment of 3DGS videos with scarce aligned references, we first present 3DGS-VBench+, a large-scale subjective video quality assessment (VQA) benchmark comprising 3{,}036 3DGS reconstructions, each paired with a rendered video, across 11 real-world and 22 synthetic scenes, generated by 6 representative compression algorithms at systematically designed levels and annotated with 9{,}108 MOSs covering overall, geometry, and color quality. Based on 3DGS-VBench+, we propose 3DGSV-Assessor, a reference-flexible, large multimodal framework that scores all three dimensions in one generation pass and fuses a ranking-based reference cue into the frozen regressor through a bounded gate, supporting both reduced-reference (RR) and no-reference (NR) assessment. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art correlation with human perception on 3DGS-VBench+ and strong zero-shot generalization to other NVS benchmarks. The dataset and code will be released at https://github.com/YukeXing/3DGSV-Assessor.

SKILL2STEER: One-Pass Hypernetwork for Mapping Natural-Language Skills to Low-Rank Post-Block Activation Shifts

Ran Li, Lei Chen

原文摘要

Compiling a natural-language agent skill into model parameters removes the skill text from the prompt and leaves behind a small artifact that can be distributed and reused. Existing methods differ in where they inject the compiled quantity, and all of them assume that the artifact carries the content of the skill. We test that assumption. Through three controls on a retrieval agent, we find that a compiled skill shift carries a domain-general behavioural prior, not the content of the skill. A wrong skill document performs on par with the correct one, a single averaged bundle matches per-skill routing under a two-sided equivalence test, and a same-norm random direction collapses to the no-injection baseline, which shows that the trained direction stays load-bearing. We then introduce SKILL2STEER, a one-pass hypernetwork that reads a skill document once and maps it to low-rank activation shifts added at the output of every decoder block. Each skill compiles to 2.36M parameters, 9.25 times fewer than a weight-space adapter, while the base weights stay frozen and the generator runs only at compile time. The shift can be scheduled across retrieval steps and deployed as one routing-free bundle. On SearchQA, a seven-dataset benchmark, SKILL2STEER reaches 37.9 exact match, 9.8 points above the frozen model and 2.3 points above a weight-space method that ships 9.25 times more parameters per skill.

ISBC: Interpretable Sparse Binary Coding of Pretrained Text Embeddings

Stefano Maria Iacus, Haodong Qi

原文摘要

Pretrained text embeddings encode semantic structure in high-dimensional continuous spaces whose coordinates are difficult to interpret. We introduce Interpretable Sparse Binary Coding (ISBC), which learns a small set of binary dimensions from frozen embeddings without taxonomy labels or downstream outcomes. A trainable encoder and affine decoder combine reconstruction with controls on activity, factor utilization, dependence, and activation uncertainty. Individual bits and their conjunctions select overlapping document groups; complete activation profiles provide finer contexts for conditional comparisons. We evaluate these representations across corpora, backbones, and code configurations through reconstruction, geometry, predictive probes, and document inspection. Empirical cases identify both distinctions within existing categories and shared content across their boundaries. In a mixed-domain corpus, the most frequent profiles predominantly identify source collections, while selected within-source comparisons reveal sentiment and migration contrasts. Selected associations persist in additional documents encoded without refitting. In an engagement application, bits alone improve prediction of log-transformed outcomes over a constant reference, while their combinations identify within-event content contrasts associated with engagement. The results support using binary coordinates and their combinations for empirical interpretation, with complete profiles providing a fine, partly initialization-dependent description rather than a unique discrete taxonomy.

Replay for LLM Continual Learning with Multi-Teacher On-Policy Distillation

Yiqiao Qiu

原文摘要

Multi-teacher on-policy distillation (MOPD) distills several domain experts into one student and is used in the post-training of recent large language models. It trains on all domains at once, so every expert must be available at the same time. In practice, capabilities often arrive one after another, and the experts of earlier domains may be gone when a new domain is learned. Distilling the experts in sequence then suffers from catastrophic forgetting of the earlier domains. Some recent pipelines store a snapshot after every stage and end with a multi-teacher recovery stage taught by all snapshots. The number of stored models then grows with the number of stages. Different from these pipelines, this paper formulates continual MOPD by what is kept from earlier stages and studies replay toward the previous student. Inside every stage, prompts of earlier domains are replayed with the student of the previous stage as their teacher, so neither earlier experts nor stage snapshots are kept. Two design choices of replay are explored. The replay budget of a stage is either shared among the earlier domains or fixed per earlier domain. Replay steps either distill the token distribution alone or add alignment of hidden states, region-pooled self-attention scores and value relations. A five-domain benchmark of logic, math, code, safety and instruction following is built from public experts of one 1.5B student. Experiments on its 14 benchmarks show that, without storing any snapshot, replay toward the previous student closes most of the gap between sequential distillation and joint MOPD. With a fixed replay share per earlier domain, it performs on par with recovery from all stored snapshots.

Spatial Memory for AR Glasses: Hierarchical Visual Acquisition and Source-Linked Recall

Tianxing Zhu, Dan Huang

原文摘要

We present a spatial-memory system that enables optical see-through AR glasses to recall earlier physical encounters. The dual-camera prototype combines hierarchical visual acquisition with source-linked storage and staged retrieval. Quality screen-ing, global and regional appearance novelty, and temporal support select monochrome observations for detailed RGB cap-ture. Semantic observations retain links to their source images, allowing retrieval to answer indexed historical questions direct-ly or inspect visual details omitted from scene descriptions. The architecture separates capture acceptance, interpretation out-come, and support for a particular question. This distinction motivates two core control mechanisms: bounded reassessment of familiar views when earlier processing leaves an evidence gap, and retention guided by source dependencies. In a 131.35 s egocentric replay, the implemented acquisition policy selected six RGB views from 648 monitoring observations, while feature extraction ran on 97.7% of observations. These results demon-strate selective RGB acquisition and identify frequent local inference as a remaining cost. Exposure duration and cross-view timing further constrain the evidence preserved from se-lected encounters. The system provides a practical acquisition-to-recall architecture for persistent AR assistance, with explicit boundaries between captured evidence, indexed interpretations, and supported historical claims.

Physical Diffusion Policy via MPM-Guided 3D Gaussian Simulation

Can Wang, Qiyuan Qiao, Lei Liu, Ge Yuan, Xinhui Liu, Dong Xu

原文摘要

Learning robust manipulation policies for diverse everyday objects remains challenging because objects with different materials exhibit distinct deformation and contact dynamics. While diffusion policies provide a powerful framework for modeling multimodal manipulation behaviors, they typically lack explicit physical reasoning and may produce averaged actions when facing heterogeneous objects. We present a physics-aware diffusion policy that augments visual imitation learning with object physical understanding. Our framework recovers material properties from visual demonstrations by coupling 3D Gaussian Splatting with differentiable Material Point Method simulation, where video guidance and particle-level constraints enable accurate physical parameter estimation. The estimated physics conditions are further integrated into a material-aware Mixture-of-Experts diffusion policy, allowing adaptive behavior generation across different physical regimes. For practical deployment, we introduce a physics memory bank that provides efficient physical retrieval without requiring online simulation optimization. Experiments on a wide range of simulated and real-world objects demonstrate improved manipulation success and generalization over existing diffusion-based approaches. These results show that incorporating physical knowledge is critical for scalable robot manipulation in diverse environments.

VideoZeroBench: Probing the Limits of Video MLLMs with Spatio-Temporal Evidence Verification

原文摘要

Video multimodal large language models achieve strong results on existing benchmarks, but answer accuracy alone does not establish whether they can locate the evidence needed to answer a question. We introduce VideoZeroBench, a challenging long-video benchmark with manually annotated question-answer pairs spanning 13 video domains. Questions target fine-grained cues, fleeting events, and evidence distributed across multiple segments. Temporal intervals and key-frame boxes are annotated where applicable. All questions undergo two rounds of cross-verification for answer validity and evidence quality. Our five-level diagnostic protocol compares answering with and without evidence hints, then combines answer correctness with independently evaluated temporal and spatial grounding. Across 19 evaluated models, the best standard QA accuracy is 24.8% (Level-3), achieved by Gemini-3.7-Flash. No model exceeds 1.8% when correct answers and accurate spatio-temporal localization are jointly required (Level-5). Analyses of atomic abilities, evidence spans, input modalities, and thinking-with-videos inference further characterize where the evaluated systems struggle. These findings motivate more precise evidence search and localization for long-video question answering. Our code and data are publicly released.

Hybrid Particle-Voxel Dynamics for Multimodal 3D World Simulation

Jimmy Wang, Yifan Chou, Kaifeng Zhang, Yixuan Wang, Binghao Huang, Tao Yu, Saleh Nabi, Yunzhu Li

原文摘要

Predicting how the world evolves in response to robot actions is central to policy learning, evaluation, and planning. However, many action-conditioned world models predict future observations in 2D image or video space without explicitly modeling the underlying 3D scene, making spatial consistency across viewpoints and over long-horizon interactions challenging. We introduce 3D World Simulator, an action-conditioned multimodal world modeling framework that jointly predicts appearance, geometry, and tactile observations from a unified 3D representation. Our approach combines a hybrid particle-voxel autoencoder that compresses point clouds into compact 3D voxel latents with an action-conditioned latent dynamics model that predicts their evolution. The shared 3D representation supports geometrically consistent rendering from arbitrary viewpoints and flexible integration of spatially aligned tactile signals. Our experiments demonstrate interactive, long-horizon, multimodal prediction at 50 Hz. We then show how our model enables scalable data generation for policy training and evaluation using tactile and multi-view visual observations, including wrist-mounted and novel camera views. Furthermore, we scale our method to large datasets containing diverse objects and demonstrate model-based planning with unseen objects and robot configurations. Together, these results highlight the potential of hybrid particle-voxel dynamics as a foundation for multimodal 3D world simulation.

SPA-Q: Structure-Preserving Adaptive Post-Training Quantization for Monocular Depth Estimation

Jaemin Choi, Jincheol Yang, Nahyun Lim, Yun-Seong Jeong, Matti Zinke, Hyunwoo Yu, Suk-Ju Kang

原文摘要

Monocular depth estimation (MDE) has advanced rapidly with the emergence of foundation models such as Depth Anything. Their transformer-based architectures provide strong generalization across diverse scenes and domains, but also incur high computational and memory cost, making efficient deployment challenging. Post-Training Quantization (PTQ) provides an efficient and practical solution for model compression, yet low-bit PTQ remains challenging for MDE models. When applying PTQ to Depth Anything, we identify two key challenges: (i) independently minimizing the quantization error of the query and key projections fails to preserve the attention maps induced by their interaction, and (ii) quantization errors accumulate across layers, resulting in intermediate feature distribution shifts. To address these issues, we propose SPA-Q, a Structure-Preserving Adaptive PTQ framework for MDE, consisting of two main components. First, Attention-Preserving Calibration (APC) determines query and key quantization parameters by matching the full-precision attention distribution. Second, Channel-Wise Distribution Alignment (CWDA) learns channel-wise affine transformations to mitigate quantization-induced distribution shifts, and the learned parameters are absorbed into the weights after training. Experimental results show that SPA-Q consistently outperforms existing PTQ methods under 4-bit quantization, achieving an average 25.9% reduction in AbsRel and a 17.3% improvement in $δ_1$ across NYUv2 and KITTI datasets.

Polarimetric Scattering-Structure Contrastive Learning for Few-Shot HRRP Recognition

Fangyi Wang, Peng Zhao, Haipeng Wang

原文摘要

Few-shot high-resolution range profile (HRRP) recognition is challenged by strong aspect-dependent variation and sparse novel-class support. We propose polarimetric scattering-structure contrastive learning (PSS-CL), which supplies an episodic HRRP encoder with a structured physical training view. Dominant local responses are represented by their soft affinities to canonical polarimetric mechanisms, normalized range locations, and energy contributions. A symmetric cross-view objective transfers this scattering structure to the learned HRRP representation, while episodic prototype learning supports novel-class inference without the physical branch. We conduct Random-aspect and Cross-aspect experiments on a six-class measured dataset. In Cross-aspect 1-, 3-, and 5-shot recognition, PSS-CL achieves 81.73%, 86.92%, and 90.98% mean class accuracy (MCA), respectively, outperforming the best competing results by 5.62%, 3.09%, and 3.56%.

Automated Numerical Stability Analysis of Deep Learning Operators

Xinye Chen

原文摘要

Finite-precision arithmetic unavoidably introduces numerical approximation errors. Numerical computations may use insufficient precision or an improper formulation, which leads to numerical instability. In this paper, we introduce a unified software tool for stochastic numerical validation of deep-learning operators. The tool follows CESTAC on supported exposed operations and uses an operator-level data-perturbation approximation for GEMM-like kernels. Our developed software not only enables numerical validation with a single computation pass but also detects the sources of numerical instability and provides numerical stability monitoring during deep learning training and inference. We verified its effectiveness on the detection of polluted operators with injected numerical instabilities across various tasks. We believe that our developed method and tools provide valuable insights into developing numerically stable computing kernels, which are particularly critical for numerically stable and efficient deep learning training and inference.

原文摘要

Data consistency between unstructured clinical notes and structured tables in Electronic Health Records (EHRs) is essential for patient safety and clinical decision-making. However, existing work on note-table consistency verification mainly relies on surface-level matching of numeric values or simple events. Such approaches fail to capture the reasoning underlying real-world EHR documentation, including clinical interpretation, event relations, and temporal changes. To address this gap, we introduce EHR-ReasonCon, a reasoning-intensive benchmark for note-table consistency verification. Built on MIMIC-III with expert-guided annotations, it comprises 8,042 entities derived from clinical notes and provides high-quality ground-truth labels. The annotation protocol is supported by specialized table-exploration tools to ensure systematic evidence retrieval and reliable consistency assessment. We also propose EHR-INSPECTOR, an LLM-based framework that segments notes, extracts anchor entities and temporal references, and uses table-exploration tools to verify consistency against structured tables. Evaluated using expert-validated LLM-as-a-judge metrics under harsh and lenient criteria, EHR-INSPECTOR achieves state-of-the-art performance across multiple model backbones. Analyses further demonstrate the effectiveness of its components and highlight differences from human verification. The code and dataset are available at https://github.com/dustn1259/EHR-ReasonCon.

Bridging CLIP with DINO: Cross-Modal Information Maximization for Online Test-Time Adaptation

Taehoon Kim, Wonjun Hwang, Hyunsouk Cho

原文摘要

Vision-language models such as CLIP enable zero-shot classification from arbitrary class names, but under test-time corruptions, their visual encoder projects distorted features onto incorrect textual anchors with high confidence: a phenomenon we term modality bias. Standard entropy minimization reinforces these overconfident errors, which creates a confirmation-bias loop and collapses the predicted label distribution. We propose an online test-time adaptation (TTA) method that breaks this loop at three levels. At the representation level, a frozen self-supervised backbone (e.g., DINO v2) is combined with CLIP through a cross-covariance logit ensemble. CLIP text prototypes are projected into the feature space of this text-free backbone, so the self-supervised branch classifies native image features and is less affected by the text bias of CLIP. At the optimization level, a gated test-time information-maximization objective pairs per-sample sharpening with batch-level diversity, while an adaptive gate excludes unreliable samples from the gradient. At the prediction level, an online logit adjustment corrects the residual class-distribution skew. CDIM outperforms the compared CLIP-based online TTA baselines on ImageNet-C, CIFAR10-C, and CIFAR100-C, and remains competitive in continual and mixed-domain TTA. Extensive analyses and ablation studies verify the contribution of each of its components. Our code is available at https://github.com/B1ueC1oud/CDIM

Perseus: A Full-Stack System for Homomorphic Model Inference

Alessandro Zirilli, Davide Marincione, Evgenios M. Kornaropoulos, Giuseppe Ateniese, Emanuele Rodolà

原文摘要

Large Language Models (LLMs) have made it exceptionally convenient for users to send their private data to model providers, which process them in plaintext. Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) promises to secure remote inference by computing directly on encrypted data, yet it has remained prohibitively slow. The effort to make it practical remains fragmented, with most existing frameworks being closed-source, which keeps progress from compounding. We present Perseus, a free and open Python software library that supports the full stack of encrypted model inference, from the cryptographic backend and data packing, to encrypted nonlinearities and end-to-end model execution. Perseus ships with built-in novel optimizations, one at each level of the stack: in-kernel regeneration of key-switching keys at the (i) backend level, a complex variant of Cachemir packing at the (ii) data level, and a state-of-the-art bootstrap placer that is both packing- and magnitude-aware at the (iii) model level. Perseus achieves state-of-the-art latency across multiple models and modalities, within $3\%$ of the plaintext models' accuracy and perplexity. Remarkably, it is $3.96\times$ faster at single-token decoding than any other implementation on Llama-3-8B. We initiate, for the first time, a public speedrun on encrypted GPT-2, so that progress can compound.

Reconstruction-Based Diagnosis through Gödel-Regularized Virtual Observability

Oliver Niggemann, Jonas Ehrhardt, Alexander Diedrich

原文摘要

Not every component in a technical system can be equipped with sensors. Hence, when a fault occurs, available sensors often detect it only after its effects have propagated. This makes the isolation of faults difficult. We approach this problem by introducing virtual sensors. For each combination of component and fault type, we let external knowledge describe the fault-sensitive variables. We introduce a novel neural observer that is only trained on normal data. For fault isolation, it uses available sensor measurements where it is possible and reconstructs missing variables as virtual sensors to predict normal behavior. It detects deviations between current values and nominal predictions and computes local symptoms, which are then compared by onset time. The result is a set of root causes describing the faulty behavior. We use Gödel logic to encode physical knowledge and guide training. We evaluate our approach on synthetic networks, the Tennessee Eastman Process, and datasets of two modular production plants.

Balanced Fair Division and Generalized Kneser Graphs

Sharareh Alipour, Amir Jafari

原文摘要

We study indivisible goods allocated to two prescribed nonempty groups whose members have arbitrary monotone valuations. We guarantee balanced envy-freeness up to one good (EF1) for at most five agents and up to two goods (EF2) for at most nine, for any number of goods. Bundle sizes differ by at most one. The EF1 threshold is sharp: every split of six agents can fail. EF2 improves the previous five-agent guarantee. Via the connection of Kyropoulou, Suksompong, and Voudouris, these guarantees follow from chromatic bounds for $\mathrm{KG}(2n,n,r)$, whose vertices are $n$-subsets of a $2n$-set, adjacent when their intersection has size less than $r$. We prove its chromatic number is six for $r=2$, $n\ge2$, resolving Jafari and Alipour's conjecture, and at least ten for $r=3$, $n\ge4$, improving the previous lower bound of six; the known upper bound is fourteen. We show that the standard box-complex $\mathbb{Z}_2$-index bound yields exactly five and nine for $n\ge3$ and $n\ge5$, respectively. To exceed these bounds, we exploit restrictions on maps induced by colorings: a proper five- or nine-coloring must induce a nonzero homology map, yet local constraints force all generators, supported on pentagon or rook configurations, to map to zero. The ten-color proof compares integral and fractional common centers using a sharp rounding theorem for five subset constraints. A linear-time retraction from the full allocation graph onto balanced layers adds cardinality balance to known nonlinear discrepancy guarantees. For each fixed removal allowance in the guaranteed-existence range, finding a balanced fair allocation or an explicit monotonicity violation from valuation circuits is polynomial-time equivalent to finding a monochromatic edge in a circuit-specified coloring of the corresponding graph. The reverse reduction produces normalized monotone binary valuations using ordinary circuits.

Polynomial-time Tensor Decomposition under the Kruskal Condition and the Lovitz--Petrov Generalization

Shiri Sivan

原文摘要

An identifiability criterion is a condition on a tensor decomposition that certifies uniqueness when the condition holds. Kruskal's classical condition is one of the best-known deterministic criteria for identifiability. However, no polynomial-time decomposition algorithm is known under the Kruskal condition; verifying the condition itself is NP-hard. Lovitz and Petrov introduced a strictly more general identifiability condition which, in contrast, is polynomial-time verifiable, but no polynomial-time decomposition algorithm was known under this condition either. In this paper we give a randomized polynomial-time algorithm, in the algebraic model over $\mathbb R$, for tensor decomposition under the Lovitz--Petrov condition, and therefore also under the stricter Kruskal condition. Moreover, combining our algorithm with polynomial-time verification of the Lovitz--Petrov condition yields an efficient end-to-end certification procedure: after computing a decomposition, one can deterministically certify in polynomial time that it is unique and therefore of minimum rank.
