Local-Frame Rotary Attention for Antibody-Specific Epitope Prediction

Chuanliu Fan, Junjie Wu, Nan Yu, Guohong Fu

Antibody-specific epitope prediction aims to identify which antigen residues are recognized by a given antibody, a task that depends on the three-dimensional complementarity between antibody CDRs and the antigen surface. Existing methods usually leverage PLM embeddings and inject structure through additional graph, surface, or point-cloud encoders, where the positional mechanism inside attention remains largely tied to one-dimensional sequence order. For proteins, the analogue of a token offset is not only sequence separation, but also the three-dimensional displacement between residues after folding. This raises a question, can folded residue geometry serve as the positional mechanism of attention itself? We propose Local-Frame Rotary Attention (LFRA), which expresses inter-residue displacements in backbone-defined local frames and injects them directly into rotary attention. This design preserves continuous directional geometry while ensuring invariance to independent $\mathrm{SE}(3)$ transformations. The code and dataset are available at https://github.com/better-fcl/lfra.

AMORT-V1: Checkpointed Post-Quantum Attestation for Industrial Controllers

Rishabh Das, Gerald Agendia, Jibriel Adjei, Ahmed Oun

Programmable logic controllers often remain deployed for decades, making post-quantum attestation a long-term requirement. Prior measurements of OpenPLC attestation show that post-quantum signing can consume 88--99% of round-trip latency and that durable state can further limit throughput. We introduce AMORT-V1, a checkpointed attestation protocol that moves public-key signing and durable commitment from individual reports to periodic checkpoints. An ML-KEM epoch establishes per-device evidence keys, devices authenticate reports with MACs, and the controller commits ordered evidence through hash-chained Merkle checkpoints signed with ML-DSA or SLH-DSA. Because shared MACs do not provide transferable proof of device origin, AMORT-V1 adds a device-held disclosure chain whose keys are released after checkpoint commitment. We validate the protocol with a 27-case attack matrix, 149 differential-test vectors, and a seven-node Raspberry Pi 5 testbed with five physical OpenPLC provers. Checkpointing reduces controller cost by 90 times relative to per-report ML-DSA without durable logging and by 878 times when durable logging is required. Transferable device-origin verification costs 2.95micro sec per report, while controller-side scaling to 10,000 identities requires 6.18 micro sec and 155 octets per report. AMORT-V1 also supports rollback-resistant restart through TPM-backed monotonic state without placing durable hardware operations on the per-report path.

CubeDAgger: Interactive Imitation Learning for Dynamic Systems with Efficient yet Low-risk Interaction

Taisuke Kobayashi

Interactive imitation learning makes an agent's control policy robust by stepwise supervisions from an expert. The recent algorithms mostly employ expert-agent switching systems to reduce the expert's burden by limitedly selecting the supervision timing. However, this approach is useful only for static tasks; in dynamic tasks, timing discrepancies cause abrupt changes in actions, losing the robot's dynamic stability. This paper therefore proposes a novel method, named CubeDAgger, which improves robustness with less dynamic stability violations even for dynamic tasks. The proposed method is designed on a baseline, EnsembleDAgger, with three improvements. The first adds a regularization to explicitly activate the threshold for deciding the supervision timing. The second transforms the expert-agent switching system to an optimal consensus system of multiple action candidates. Third, autoregressive colored noise is injected to the agent's actions for time-consistent exploration. These improvements are verified by simulations, showing that the trained policies are sufficiently robust while maintaining dynamic stability during interaction. Finally, real-robot scooping experiments with a human expert demonstrate that the proposed method can learn robust policies from scratch based on just 30 minutes of interaction. https://youtu.be/kBl3SCTnVEM

Adversarial Robustness of Kernel Machines: A Comprehensive Analysis

Rahul Kumar Yadav, Tunir Ghosh, Sudhendu Ahir, Parthe Pandit, Arjun Bhagoji

Kernel machines are an important class of models in machine learning. However, the question of how robust modern kernel machines are to adversarial examples has not been studied comprehensively. In this paper, we provide a thorough empirical investigation of the adversarial robustness of kernel-based models for both binary and multiclass classification tasks, via white-box and black-box evasion attacks. We evaluate the native robustness of kernel machines, random feature classifiers, and the relatively newer Recursive Feature Machines. In addition, we provide an algorithm for approximate adversarial training of kernel machines. Our experiments on classification tasks on image and tabular datasets strongly indicate that kernel machines are natively more robust than neural networks, i.e., their performance degrades more gracefully against adversarial perturbations.

Echoes of Error: Residual-Directional Local Rollout Consistency for Timeseries Forecasting

Zheng Wang, Kaixuan Zhang, Xiaonan Lu, Wanfang Chen

In time-series forecasting, rollout errors are not merely one-step fitting discrepancies: once fed back into the evolving state, they can perturb future predictions. We formalize this effect through local rollout consistency, which compares the next prediction produced under teacher forcing with that produced under free running. In principle, this consistency can be enforced directly by tracking the residual-induced perturbation of the next state. In practice, however, the residual-to-state alignment operator is often difficult to design when the input state and output block have different dimensions, heterogeneous components, or architecture-dependent layouts. We therefore use a first-order local surrogate that penalizes the Jacobian-vector product of the predictor along the actual feedback perturbation, suppressing precisely the directions through which self-generated errors remain visible to future predictions. We further give the same loss a geometric interpretation near a predictive manifold: by controlling residual-induced directions that probe the normal bundle, the objective yields theoretical conditions under which free-running trajectories remain inside a stability tube around the manifold. Experiments on time series forecasting tasks support this view, showing that the proposed regularization improves predictive accuracy. More broadly, our results suggest a training principle for time-series forecasters and sequential predictors: a model should not only make small one-step errors, but also learn not to let its own errors echo into the future. Code is available at https://github.com/Wangzzzzzzzz/Echoes-Of-Error.

Refined Topology-Pass Scheduling: Damped Trust-Region Compensation for Dynamic k-NN Graphs in SE(3)-Equivariant Structure Prediction

Jiankai Huang, Hanwen Shen

Equivariant structure-prediction pipelines alternate coordinate updates with the construction of a k-nearest-neighbour (kNN) graph whose membership is a discrete, piecewise-constant function of the coordinates. Rebuilding that graph at every block boundary (PB) is the expensive part of an epoch, whereas reusing one frozen graph (F) is fast but leaves a topology gap. We study a two-pass design in which the cheap pass records a small amount of state (margins, kNN radii, measured per-boundary displacements) and a second pass compensates conservatively. We formulate the choice of the graph-construction basis as a damped fixed-point iteration whose unique fixed point is exactly PB, and derive (i) exact non-flip certificates with the two-sided constant $m_i/4$ and one-sided constant $m_i/2$, (ii) the minimum-variance (BLUE) replay gain $γ^*$ and the resulting feasibility crossover, (iii) an $\ell_\infty$ trust-region projection that preserves convergence, and (iv) an analytic near-tie spacing law $E[m] \approx r_k/(3k)$ that matches measurements to 1\%. Three compensation levels are implemented in C++ (L1: frozen set with live geometry; L2: margin-gated local repair; L3: damped, projected basis) and validated under a matched-conditions protocol (identical seed, MSA depth and trajectory family, only the topology mode differs). L2 reproduces the PB edge set exactly ($D = 0.0000$ at every boundary), L1 stays within 0.6% and L3 interpolates monotonically: L2 reproduces the PB edge set exactly when the trust region is removed, and L3 interpolates between the frozen and the PB topology. The recorded trajectory itself yields a measured $1.5\times$ Pass-1 and $1.76\times$ epoch speed-up with no measurable loss gap. An open-source implementation of the runtime and of all the experiments reported here is available at https://github.com/AlbertHuang96/ProteinPredictMachineLearning.

Kinematic analysis of a double-closed-loop four-bar chain-based leg for a multimodal quadruped-pentarotor robot

Prashant Raturi, Santhakumar Mohan

This paper presents the kinematic modeling and singularity analysis of a three-degree-of-freedom, double four-bar closed-loop quadruped leg mechanism. This leg is essential for transitioning between the two operational modes; therefore, it is examined in both joint and task spaces, leading to the development of its Jacobian matrix, which is vital for designing the gaits required for terrestrial mode and mid-air aerial reconfiguration (for aerial mode). Various gaits are devised for the system's motion in the MATLAB simulation, and their practical implementation on the single-leg test rig is demonstrated.

Recursive Self-Improvement for Long-Horizon Role-Playing Dialogue

Y. L. Li, Y. H. Wu

Long-horizon role-playing dialogue requires consistent character identity, reliable memory, and context-sensitive interaction. We present a bounded recursive self-improvement (RSI) framework that revises original-character memory, stable persona instructions, and a policy for constructing turn-level prompts. Repair outcomes also inform revisions to the updater's diagnostic rules, edit routing, and candidate selection. We specify the updater as a versioned policy with explicit inputs, editable fields, acceptance gates, and stopping conditions. An internal evaluation covers 50 original characters and five models, with two 100-round conversations per character-model pair: 500 conversations per condition. Across the pooled evaluated replies, the bad-response rate decreases from 14.00% (6,973/49,824) to 4.94% (2,459/49,793), a 9.06-percentage-point reduction and a 64.71% relative reduction. In 600 blinded human comparisons, RSI receives 294 wins, 187 ties, and 119 losses, yielding a 71.19% win rate among decisive judgments. The results support improved aggregate dialogue quality for the complete framework on the internal test distribution.

Polynomial-Time Approximate EFX for Chores via Flow and Matching

Genjie Qin, Qizhi Fang, Minming Li, Wenjing Liu, Xin Chen

We study approximate EFX allocations of indivisible chores under nonnegative additive costs. Exact EFX allocations need not exist in general. We develop a polynomial-time algorithm that computes a complete $(3+\varepsilon)$-EFX allocation for any rational $0<\varepsilon\leq1$, improving the previous approximation guarantee from a factor depending on the number of agents to a constant. The algorithm extends to EF$k$X, achieving a $(2+1/k+\varepsilon)$-approximation for every integer $k\geq1$. For instances with relatively few chores, the polynomial-time BRBI algorithm gives stronger guarantees. It finds exact EF$k$X allocations when $m\leq2kn$ and achieves a factor of at most $2-1/k$ when $m\le(3k-1)n$. In particular, $k=1$ and $m\leq2n$ give exact EFX. We further show that the approximation factor \(2+1/k\) is asymptotically tight for our main algorithm. We also construct a four-agent, ten-chore instance in which every complete allocation has EFX approximation factor at least $11/10$, improving upon the $20/19$ lower bound for submodular costs even under additive costs.

PixelMoE: Scaling Pixel-Space Diffusion with LLM-Style Mixture-of-Experts

Ruixiao Dong, Jianmin Bao, Bozhi Luan, Zijie Meng, Xin Tao, Pengfei Wan, Kun Gai, Li Li 等 9 位作者

Pixel-space diffusion models provide an appealing alternative to latent-space diffusion models by directly modeling raw images without relying on a learned tokenizer. However, scaling pixel-space models has predominantly followed dense strategies, tightly coupling model capacity with active computation. In this work, we show that standard LLM-style Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architectures can be effectively transferred to pixel-space diffusion. Building on this finding, we introduce PixelMoE, a pixel-space generative framework that sparsely scales model capacity with standard LLM-style MoE, without diffusion-specific routing mechanisms or auxiliary routing objectives. Specifically, PixelMoE combines standard Token-Choice (TC) routing with fine-grained routed experts for input-adaptive sparse computation, a shared expert for capturing common representations, and a bias-based load-balancing strategy. To complement sparse capacity scaling, PixelMoE further introduces Pixel-Space Hierarchical Flow Matching, which varies spatial resolution along the denoising trajectory from global structure formation to fine-grained detail refinement. At comparable active parameter counts, PixelMoE consistently outperforms its dense counterparts across model scales, demonstrating effective sparse capacity scaling in pixel space. On class-conditional ImageNet-1K, PixelMoE achieves FID scores of 1.47 at 256x256 and 1.53 at 512x512 without representation alignment or perceptual losses, comparing favorably with leading pixel-space and latent-space generative models. Code and pretrained models are available at https://github.com/KlingAIResearch/PixelMoE and https://huggingface.co/KlingTeam/PixelMoE, respectively.

Beyond the Final Embedding: Retrieving Memories from Token-Level Evidence

Han Luo, Zhan Zhuang, Xu He, Jujia Zhao, Yu Li, Suqin Yuan, Dong Li, Jianye Hao 等 9 位作者

Memory-augmented assistants retrieve evidence from stored conversations and documents to answer queries. Most embedding-based retrievers compare single-vector representations of queries and memories, even when relevance depends on a small part of the content. Such local evidence can be matched to queries using the contextual token representations already computed by the same embedding models. Our method uses sparse token matching to improve retrieval without additional training. Each query token retrieves a small set of matching tokens across candidate memories. The matching scores are aggregated for each memory and combined with whole-memory similarity to rank memories. An optional low-rank query adapter can be trained with supervision while keeping the encoder and stored memory representations fixed. Our method improves retrieval across eight benchmarks and multiple model families without additional training. Query adaptation further increases the gains to 13.3 and 14.3 percentage points in average Recall@10 and NDCG@10 on Qwen3-Embedding-4B. These retrieval gains translate into higher question-answering accuracy on long-term memory benchmarks.

Autoregressive Diffusion World Models for Off-Policy Evaluation of LLM Agents

Kaixuan Liu, Guojun Xiong, Weinan Zhang, Shengpu Tang

Evaluating large language model (LLM) agents in multi-turn interactive environments is expensive and risky, as it requires online environment interaction. We propose ADWM (Autoregressive Diffusion World Model), an evaluation framework that estimates the performance of a new LLM agent policy purely from pre-collected trajectories. The core idea is to learn a latent diffusion world model that simulates how the environment responds to the evaluation policy, without ever executing it in the real environment. Existing diffusion-based OPE methods guide full trajectories in a single pass by jointly diffusing states and actions, an assumption that breaks down for LLM agents whose actions are discrete text that must be sampled from the policy after observing the environment. Unlike autoregressive world models that suffer from compounding errors, ADWM models each transition as an independent denoising process, enabling reliable step-by-step rollouts where the world model and agent alternate in causal order. Crucially, the LLM agent under evaluation directly guides the diffusion generation at each step via a policy-conditioned score function, ensuring that simulated trajectories accurately reflect its decision-making patterns. Empirically, ADWM achieves accurate value estimates and evaluation reliability across diverse multi-turn agent tasks, demonstrating its promise as a practical framework for offline LLM agent evaluation.

Manifold-Constrained Initial Noise Optimization for Efficient Generative Model Alignment

Jinho Chang, Jong Chul Ye

Recent advances in distillation and flow-map models have enabled deterministic one- or few-step generation for high-quality data, facilitating a new branch of reward alignment approaches that directly optimize the initial noise from a Gaussian distribution. However, most existing initial-noise optimization methods rely on first-order gradient information, which is either inapplicable or suffers from instability and inefficiency in black-box reward scenarios. Here, we introduce ZeNOVA, a stable and efficient initial noise alignment method in a gradient-free manner. Specifically, we address existing algorithms' major challenge in black-box scenarios through annealed soft-value guidance, manifold-constrained hyperspherical Langevin dynamics, and Metropolis-Hastings jumping. Extensive experiments on image and video generative models show that ZeNOVA outperforms all evaluated zeroth-order baselines by optimizing the initial noise toward higher rewards substantially more stably while exploiting the geometry of the Gaussian prior, demonstrating its practical applicability to various black-box reward alignment.

Demasking Fine-Tuning for Knowledge Injection in Autoregressive and Diffusion LLMs

Xu Pan, Ely Hahami, Jingxuan Fan, Ziqian Xie, Haim Sompolinsky

Large language models (LLMs) are often used in environments where facts evolve, yet factual knowledge updates via fine-tuning on unstructured plain text often suffer from 1) reliance on paraphrasing augmentation, without which training does not generalize to downstream QA tasks, and 2) the reversal curse. Recent evidence of the sample efficiency of masked diffusion large language models (dLLMs) and the bidirectional information flow in their demasking training objective suggests that the demasking objective may facilitate knowledge learning from raw knowledge text. We test this hypothesis in controlled knowledge fine-tuning experiments on dLLMs and autoregressive LLMs (arLLMs) and find that while arLLMs rely on paraphrase augmentation to generalize knowledge text into question-answering (QA) capability, dLLMs do not require paraphrases to achieve high QA accuracy. We find that giving arLLMs a demasking objective, where the LLM must reconstruct the original text from a masked copy given in context, improves the efficacy of knowledge injection, removing the need for paraphrases and mitigating the reversal curse, recovering most of the gap between arLLMs and dLLMs. We also provide preliminary evidence of the broader applicability of using the demasking objective in arLLM fine-tuning on a large-scale knowledge-intensive dataset.

Each Insufficient in Its Own Way: Calibrating Language Models Across Varying Evidence States

Jiayi Li, Dennis L. Shung, Bradly C. Stadie

How can a language model know whether it has enough evidence to answer? Language models tend to answer even when the evidence they have is insufficient. Deciding whether to answer or gather more evidence requires a calibrated estimate of how likely an answer is to be correct with the available evidence. However, most calibration work treats the input as fixed, without asking how this estimate should change with the evidence. We introduce evidence-state calibration, which requires a model's confidence before answering to match its probability of answering correctly and to change accordingly whenever the evidence changes this probability. We propose SuffiCE (Sufficiency Confidence Estimation), which fine-tunes the confidence already present in a model's next-token distribution to match how often the model answers correctly from each evidence state. Across clinical diagnosis and multi-hop question answering with four models from two families, SuffiCE reduces the Brier score by up to 60% and increases AUROC by up to 0.16. Its confidence matches the empirical success rate and responds not only to the amount of evidence but also to which evidence is present, showing that models can learn to judge whether their current evidence is enough to answer.

FINCOSMOS: An Open-World Evaluation Paradigm for Agents in Finance

Yupeng Cao, Xueqing Peng, Lingfei Qian, Haohang Li, Yangyang Yu, Anke Xu, Wenbo Cao, Yan Wang 等 17 位作者

Language agents increasingly work for users on the open Web, and finance is where trusting them is hardest. The data must come from the Web, the strategy lives in the user's head, and correctness depends on time, so an agent can fail silently: a strategy the user never asked for, unverified data, or a backtest that uses the future yields a report as convincing as a correct one. Existing benchmarks close the world somewhere, fixing the task, the data, or the timeline, and thereby remove these failures instead of measuring them. We introduce FINCOSMOS, an open-world evaluation paradigm for agents doing financial work. A simulated user holds a hidden strategy sampled from a compositional grammar and reveals it only when asked. The agent receives no data, so it must acquire data from the Web, build its own backtest under a data cutoff, and deliver verifiable results. Grading needs no reference answer. Programs verify point-in-time correctness and recompute every reported metric, the delivered strategy is checked against the hidden specification, and a run is accepted only when the user is satisfied and none of 15 veto checks fails. Across four coding agents and a model without tools in 150 sessions, no session is accepted: every session that the simulated user signed off fails a program check, and agents raise only 54--64\% of the details they were not told. Human experts attribute 88.33\% of failures to the agents. With FINCOSMOS feedback, an agent with persistent memory learned all ten tasks.

Alignment Collapse Under KV Cache Quantization: Diagnosis and Mitigation

Bruce Changlong Xu, Adarsh Kumarappan, Mu Zhou

Key-value (KV) cache quantization is widely used to reduce LLM inference memory, yet existing evaluations focus only on perplexity and accuracy without assessing the safety impact. In this study, we explore alignment preservation under KV cache quantization. Across eleven instruction-tuned models (3.8B-72B) and five benchmarks (1,894 prompts), we find that low-bit quantization can silently destroy safety alignment: Mistral-7B loses 15.2% of its refusals at only 1.03x perplexity, and no universal safe bit-width exists, with sharp model-specific phase transitions invisible to standard metrics. We identify that the root cause is geometric: safety features occupy a low-dimensional activation subspace $10^2$-$10^3\times$ more vulnerable to quantization noise than the full representation space perplexity averages over. We propose Per-Channel Reduction (PCR), a diagnostic that classifies each model into one of three mechanistic failure modes: outlier-crushes-safety, where safety lives in non-outlier channels collaterally damaged by outlier-driven scale factors; outlier-as-safety, where safety overlaps outlier channels and finer granularity cannot rescue it; and multi-layer dilution, where safety is distributed across many layers and per-layer fixes fail. PCR predicts the correct mitigation direction on all nine primary models and one held-out model from an independent family using 20 calibration prompts. PCR generalizes across unseen prompts, models, and quantizer families, including production quantizers (KIVI: up to 97.2% recovery) and rotation-based quantization (QuaRot-style Hadamard), succeeding where attention-based allocation methods fail. The resulting training-free protocol, requiring ~35 GPU-minutes, recovers up to 97% of lost alignment at under 1% latency and minimal memory overhead, addressing vulnerabilities confirmed in production vLLM serving with FP8 KV cache on NVIDIA GPUs.

From Fixed Defaults to Calibrated Activation Policies for Long-Term Time-Series Forecasting

Shijie Xu, Boyan Tang, Kai He, Jianghua Wu

Long-term time-series forecasting supports decisions in energy, transportation, and other applications where reliable predictions are needed beyond the observed data. Although forecasting research has advanced model architectures, fixed activation configurations provide limited guidance on how activation choices should vary across datasets and prediction horizons. This study aims to establish when task-specific activation choices improve forecasting accuracy and how previous experiments can guide the selection of suitable configurations for new tasks. We develop a calibrated selection policy that learns a reliable default from prior experiments, adapts the activation function and its location to each task, and retains the default when evidence for a change is insufficient. In an evaluation supported by 1,225 Informer training runs across 17 dataset variants and 51 forecasting tasks, the policy reduces mean squared error by 7.86% on average relative to the conventional fixed-activation baseline and improves 72.55% of tasks. These findings establish activation choice and placement as practical opportunities for improving existing forecasting models and show how accumulated experimental evidence can guide configuration decisions without repeating an exhaustive search for every task.

FREE-LIVO: Physically Decoupled Yet Tightly Coupled LiDAR-Inertial-Visual Odometry

Reon Tabata, Kenji Koide, Shuji Oishi, Taku Okawara, Mizuho Aoki, Aoki Takanose, Masashi Yokozuka, Jun Miura

LiDAR-Inertial-Visual Odometry (LIVO) integrates complementary LiDAR, camera, and IMU measurements to achieve robust state estimation. However, most existing methods assume a fixed relative pose and accurate time synchronization between sensors. Toward modular and heterogeneous robotic systems, this paper presents FREE-LIVO, a tightly coupled odometry method that requires neither a rigid LiDAR-camera rig nor LiDAR-camera time synchronization. The proposed method uses a pretrained image feature matcher to establish correspondences between a camera image and a dense LiDAR intensity image generated from a single LiDAR scan using a generative model. From the resulting 3D point-to-pixel correspondences, we construct reprojection factors that directly constrain LiDAR and camera poses at different acquisition times. These factors are jointly optimized in a single factor graph together with constraints from point cloud registration, visual feature tracking, and the IMU measurements associated with each sensor. On six sequences from the public M3DGR dataset, FREE-LIVO achieves an average absolute trajectory error (ATE) RMSE of 0.45 m without provided LiDAR-camera extrinsic parameters and exhibits minimal accuracy degradation under time synchronization errors of up to 0.5 s. Furthermore, experiments with the LiDAR and camera mounted on separate robots demonstrate that the method can jointly estimate the trajectories of independently moving sensors.

Information-Spectrum General Formulas for the Capacity Region of Classical-Quantum Multiple Access Channels

Takuya Kubo, Hiroshi Nagaoka

For classical-quantum multiple access channels (cq-MACs) with two senders, we give several general expressions for the capacity region, valid for arbitrary sequences of channels. In the case of asymptotically vanishing error ($\varepsilon=0$), the capacity region is expressed in terms of spectral inf-mutual information rates. For every $0\le\varepsilon<1$, the $\varepsilon$-capacity region is expressed in terms of a quantity defined through a linear combination of three alternative hypotheses. In particular, the outer bound of Kubo and Nagaoka (2015) is tight. Our results include the quantum counterpart of the general formula of Han (1998) for the classical MAC. The most important ingredient is the one-shot inner bound of Sen (2021), which we apply to each member of an arbitrary channel sequence.

AuroraWorld: Structured 4D World Modeling for Exo-to-Ego Video Generation in Robot Manipulation

Hao Xue, Peng-Fei Zhang, Ying Cheng, Lanyun Zhu, Lei Zhu, Heng Tao Shen

Egocentric observations provide a robot-centric view of manipulation processes, capturing contact interactions and object-state changes that are important for visuomotor policy learning but difficult to observe from external cameras. However, collecting such data at scale remains expensive due to additional hardware requirements and platform-specific deployment costs. Synthesizing egocentric observations from large-scale exocentric manipulation videos provides a scalable alternative. However, existing methods struggle to synthesize physically consistent and policy-relevant egocentric videos under substantial viewpoint transformations, severe occlusions, complex object interactions, and inherently sparse observations from available exocentric viewpoints. The Last Mile to the Real World: Agent-Native Primitives as Reusable Building Blocks for Solving Real-World Tasks

Haibo Jin, Peng Kuang, Xiaopeng Yuan, Lucheng Fu, Jerry Wang, Xucheng Yu, Yaoning Yu, Dehao Wu 等 14 位作者

How can an agent handle a real-world task end to end? Frontier models with their own harnesses still fall short on real-world benchmarks: on Terminal-Bench 4.0, GPT-5.6 Sol with Codex resolves 37.3% of the tasks and Claude Opus 5 with Claude Code 51.8%. These tasks fail at the step from reaching a resource to applying it, which we call the last mile to the real world. Existing approaches put the resource within reach but leave the competence to apply it with the caller, so each harness rebuilds that competence. We introduce agent-native primitives, reusable units that equip a resource with a resident LLM that applies it in context and communicates with other primitives, and HEELO (Harness Engineering around Evolving Agent-Native Primitives for the Last Mile to Real-WOrld Tasks), a harness engineering framework that builds each task's harness from a library of such primitives. HEELO composes the primitives a task needs into a task-specific graph, verifies the result against evidence from the environment, revises the primitives a failure implicates, and admits new or improved primitives after validation. We instantiate HEELO with eight primitive families, each built for one kind of task, and evaluate them on more than twenty benchmarks. Dev-Primitives raise Terminal-Bench 4.0 resolution from 37.3% under Codex to 55.5% on the same backbone, Harness Primitives composed per task raise Terminal-Bench 2.0 Pass@1 from 60.0% for the seed harness to 72.2%, Tool Primitives raise ToolBench pass rate from 55.8% to 75.1%, and Navigation Primitives raise GAIA-Text-103 accuracy from 45.6% to 58.3%. On the 46 real-world tasks of our heelo.dev platform, Claude Opus 5.5 with Claude Code and GPT-6.1 Sol with Codex complete 9 each on their own and 39 and 35 when connected to HEELO through our MCP server, with 1.9$\times$ and 2.3$\times$ less time and 1.55$\times$ lower cost per completed task.

NEAR: Neighborhood-Aware Residuals for Memory Retrieval

Han Luo, Zhan Zhuang, Xu He, Jujia Zhao, Yu Li, Suqin Yuan, Dong Li, Jianye Hao 等 9 位作者

Memory retrieval aims to identify evidence from stored records to answer a query. Stored records with different factual details may share topics, entities, or events. Such shared contents would make records without the required evidence more likely to receive high similarity scores and outrank the correct evidence. In this paper, we use the information shared by these records to construct local references for query-memory matching. We propose NEighborhood-Aware Residuals (NEAR), a training-free framework that uses these references to construct residual representations that complement the original embeddings. Specifically, each memory derives a reference direction from its neighbors, and each query obtains its reference from a precomputed table. Using these references, NEAR constructs projection residuals for both queries and memories. These residuals are combined with the original embeddings for a single approximate nearest-neighbor search over a fixed memory index. Experiments on eight long-context retrieval benchmarks show consistent improvements across nine embedding models. Downstream evaluations show that NEAR improves question-answering performance.

Physics-informed latent conditional flow matching for generative modeling of granular flows on inclined planes

Ziqi Han, Kuang Shi, Xuyang Li, Teng Man, Yimin Lu

The internal kinematic and mechanical states of granular flows are difficult to observe or measure, limiting the interpretation of internal particle interactions and their role in flow evolution. In this study, we propose a physics-informed latent conditional flow matching (PI-LCFM) framework for reconstructing complete multivariable flow sequences from partial boundary observations. A variational autoencoder and temporal flow-matching model learn a reusable latent prior over velocity, granular temperature, stress, and solid volume fraction. During inference, boundary-velocity or basal-stress observations and mass- and momentum-conservation constraints guide the latent trajectory through the decoded physical fields, without retraining either model. The results demonstrate that the model accurately reconstructs full spatiotemporal fields from observations containing only 0.3\% of the complete field information, extrapolates beyond the training ranges of inclination and particle number, and recovers key trends in runout scaling, energy evolution, and stress profiles. Compared with a frame-by-frame conditional flow-matching baseline, PI-LCFM reduces the mean velocity-component root-mean-square error by 45.2\%, while observation-guided reconstruction of 500-frame sequences achieves an approximately 44-fold speedup. Physics guidance further improves conservation consistency, supporting the broader potential of this framework for inferring hidden states in particulate systems, with potential applications envisioned in geophysical hazard assessment and industrial process monitoring.

Alignment Whack-a-Mole : Finetuning Activates Verbatim Recall of Copyrighted Books in Large Language Models

Xinyue Liu, Niloofar Mireshghallah, Jane C. Ginsburg, Tuhin Chakrabarty

Frontier LLM companies have repeatedly assured courts and regulators that their models do not store copies of training data. They further rely on safety alignment strategies via RLHF, system prompts, and output filters to block verbatim regurgitation of copyrighted works, and have cited the efficacy of these measures in their legal defenses against copyright infringement claims. We show that finetuning bypasses these protections: by training models to expand plot summaries into full text, a task naturally suited for commercial writing assistants, we cause GPT-4o, Gemini-2.5-Pro, and DeepSeek-V3.1 to reproduce up to 85-90\% of held-out copyrighted books, with single verbatim spans exceeding 460 words, using only semantic descriptions as prompts and no actual book text. This extraction generalizes across authors: finetuning exclusively on Haruki Murakami's novels unlocks verbatim recall of copyrighted books from over 30 unrelated authors. The effect is not specific to any training author or corpus: random author pairs and public-domain finetuning data produce comparable extraction, while finetuning on synthetic text yields far little extraction, indicating that finetuning on individual authors' works reactivates latent memorization from pretraining. Three models from different providers memorize the same books in the same regions ($r \ge 0.90$), pointing to an industry-wide vulnerability. Our findings offer compelling evidence that model weights store copies of copyrighted works and that the security failures that manifest after finetuning on individual authors' works undermine a key premise of recent fair use rulings, where courts have conditioned favorable outcomes on the adequacy of measures preventing reproduction of protected expression.

HazeSpikeMamba: Coupling Spiking-Inspired and State-Space Features for Self-Supervised Real-World Dehazing

Haoran Liu, Li Xu, Mingzhe Liu, Huibin Li, Peng Li, Guibin Zan, Simon X. Yang

Dehazing networks are commonly trained on synthetic hazy-clear pairs, but their performance often drops on real photographs. Synthetic haze generated using the atmospheric scattering model does not fully capture the variability of real haze, and paired real hazy-clear images are scarce. In this work, we propose HazeSpikeMamba, a compact dehazing framework that combines a spiking-inspired local path and an attentive state-space global path in a multi-scale U-Net. The local path uses TPCNNSpike, a new spike-emission scheme inspired by the neighborhood coupling of Pulse-Coupled Neural Network (PCNN). Unlike grouped directional scanning, TPCNNSpike updates all neurons in parallel using the previous firing states of their Gaussian-weighted neighborhoods. The global path adapts the Attentive State-Space Module of MambaIRv2, retaining semantic prompting and sequence reordering while removing the window self-attention branch. Its state-space processing models long-range dependencies with complexity linear in sequence length. For target-domain adaptation, a frozen degradation network, pretrained on paired NH-HAZE data, re-synthesizes haze from the dehazed prediction. The reconstruction error updates only the final restoration layers of HazeSpikeMamba without haze-free labels during adaptation. A shared checkpoint is adapted once on each complete unlabeled target set, making the evaluation dataset-level and transductive rather than zero-shot or per-image optimization. The forward network contains 2.02M active parameters and requires 13.27G nominal MACs (measured with thop at 256x256 input). This adaptation consistently improves BRISQUE and NIMA on RTTS, URHI, and HSTS. On RTTS, BRISQUE decreases from 30.13 to 27.72 and NIMA increases from 4.13 to 4.87. Under this transductive protocol, the adapted model also achieves the best BRISQUE and NIMA on URHI and HSTS among the compared methods.

Variable-aware representation, not relation typing, explains the performance of an event-graph model for ICU mortality prediction: temporal and external validation

Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Eklachur Rahman Bhuiyan, Rahnuma Tabassum Orpita

Event-graph neural networks represent intensive care unit (ICU) records as typed entities linked by timestamped observations, and their gains are often attributed to relation-specific message passing. We tested which components matter once leakage is removed and validation is temporal and external. In 31,142 first ICU stays of at least 48 hours in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV), models predicting post-48-hour in-hospital mortality were developed on 2008-2016 stays, tested on held-out 2008-2016 stays and on 2017-2019 and 2020-2022 stays, and applied without retraining to 54,696 stays from 205 hospitals in the eICU Collaborative Research Database. A leak in a previous version, total ICU length of stay used as an input, was removed. A variable-aware representation (a learned embedding of each node's variable plus per-variable normalisation) raised the mean single-model area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) from 0.846 to 0.896 in 2020-2022 and from 0.699 to 0.809 externally. With it, relation-specific and shared (relation-collapsed) message passing differed by less than 0.005 AUROC in every test set, within a +/-0.01 equivalence margin, although relation typing had appeared beneficial without it. The revised model's AUROC was 0.878-0.900 across MIMIC-IV periods, 0.15-0.19 above three severity scores and 0.007-0.011 below gradient boosting. Externally, the five-model average reached AUROC 0.825 versus 0.788 for the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) IVa score on the 48,184 stays with an APACHE prediction. In this model, representation mattered more than message-passing architecture.

Unified dynamics of training, learning, inference, and reinforcement in neural networks

Mian Wang

Through nine nanoGPT experiments, we established training-learning-inference relations: realized updates elicit state-dependent finite-amplitude responses; learning persistently reorganizes distributed functional support, with target-specific readout-boundary crossings determining capability transitions; inference recruits learned support without changing the learned state. Factors identified in the fifth experiment yielded a direct predictor of post-update capability transitions, achieving 91.43% accuracy and 91.49% four-way macro recall across 5,088 targets. We tested these relations and prediction across five additional neural architectures. In a seventh system, concentrated correct feedback eroded previously mastered skills; rebalanced feedback restored their accuracy from 70.31% to 99.48%. Linking inference consequences to subsequent training closes these relations into unified training-learning-inference-reinforcement dynamics. We subsequently established a unified system of dynamical equations, used it to reconcile positive and negative findings across existing research, and derived mathematical relationships in other neural-network theories using only the assumptions of the original studies.

Latency-Aware Adaptive Best-of-$N$

Alon Jacobson, Qian Xie, Peter I. Frazier

Test-time compute (TTC) improves language model responses by spending additional computation at inference time, and the right amount of compute depends on the prompt. Adaptive TTC methods allocate compute based on signals of response quality such as observed rewards, often by stopping once the signal exceeds a fixed threshold, and generally measure cost by the number of generations or tokens. But in online serving, latency is also a cost: it grows with server load, so a method using a fixed threshold spends too little compute when generation is fast and too much when it is slow. For Best-of-$N$ sampling, a widely used TTC method, we propose a two-stage adaptive algorithm that draws an initial batch, then uses the observed rewards and the batch's latency to decide whether to draw a second batch and at what size by comparing expected improvement against predicted cost: it draws one when the first batch's best reward is below a threshold that decreases with the first batch's latency, without explicitly measuring server load. We map each reward to its value under the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the prompt's reward distribution, so the same tradeoff parameters can be reused across tasks; a regression fitted offline on other prompts predicts a distribution for the CDF value of the first batch's best reward, giving the expected improvement in closed form. We evaluate the method by simulation on a preference-based alignment benchmark, measuring generations-equivalent cost: generations plus latency, converted to generations. The method reaches Best-of-$N$'s reward at lower generations-equivalent cost, and conditioning on the measured first-batch latency saves at least as much of that cost as fixed-threshold (latency-unaware) baselines, and more when latency is highly variable, when it grows with batch size, and when the second batch's latency is highly predictable from the first's.

Distribution Matching Distillation without Fake Score Network

Youngjoong Kim, Deokyeong Lee, Jaesik Park

Distribution Matching Distillation (DMD) provides an effective distribution-level correction for few-step generation, while relying on an auxiliary fake-score network to track the evolving generative distribution. Recent work combines DMD with a flow-map objective to exploit the benefits of both methods: mode-seeking and mode-covering behaviors. Since this fake-score network increases memory and update overhead, we study whether this explicit tracker can be avoided when the generator has a flow-map structure. In this work, we propose Fake-Score-network-Free DMD (FSF-DMD), a DMD-style correction for flow-map generators, replacing the auxiliary fake-score estimator with a generator-induced surrogate. We observe that this surrogate can be derived from the definition of the fake velocity under a certain perturbation assumption. Building on this insight, we derive a DMD-style objective without a fake-side network, extend it to backward simulation for flow maps, and to a self-teacher variant for training from scratch. In our ImageNet-1K $256\times 256$ experiments, FSF-DMD is competitive with the studied DMD baselines when initialized from pretrained networks and when trained from scratch.
