Grammar-Constrained Decoding Can Jailbreak LLMs into Generating Malicious Code

Yitong Zhang, Shiteng Lu, Jia Li

原文摘要

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly used for code generation, raising concerns that they may be misused to produce malicious code. Meanwhile, Grammar-Constrained Decoding (GCD) has been widely adopted to improve the reliability of LLM-generated code by enforcing syntactic validity. In this paper, we reveal a counterintuitive risk: this reliability-oriented technique can itself become an attack surface. We uncover a new jailbreak attack, termed CodeSpear, that exploits GCD to induce LLMs into generating malicious code. Our experiments show that simply applying a benign code grammar constraint can effectively jailbreak LLMs. To address this vulnerability, we propose CodeShield, a safety alignment approach that robustly preserves safe behavior even under attacker-controlled grammar constraints. CodeShield aligns the model in the code modality by teaching it to generate honeypot code under GCD. Such code is semantically harmless, so it does not implement the malicious request, and structurally diverse, so it is difficult to suppress through grammar tightening. At the same time, CodeShield still preserves natural-language refusals when natural language is available. Experiments on 10 popular LLMs across 4 benchmarks show that CodeSpear outperforms representative jailbreak baselines and increases the attack success rate by more than 30 percentage points on average. CodeShield also restores safety under CodeSpear while preserving benign utility. Our findings reveal a fundamental risk of GCD and call for greater attention to its potential security implications.

Many Pixels, One Composition: Self-Supervised Spectra for Specimen-Level Prediction

Eleftheria Tetoula-Tsonga, George Arvanitakis, Theodoros Giannakas

原文摘要

Can hyperspectral (HS) imaging be used to predict the elemental composition of physical specimens found on the Earth's surface? We approach this problem as a supervised regression task, using an open dataset of specimens, each comprising a HS cube and elemental characterization. In particular, we train an encoder in a self-supervised fashion that operates on pixel-level; then freeze the encoder and train a lightweight attention-based regression head in a supervised manner, by pairing many representations of a given specimen with its corresponding elemental label. In test specimens, our approach significantly outperforms traditional spectral matching and unmixing baselines. It also outperforms supervised learning models based on the mean spectrum (of similar model capacity), while full model fine-tuning achieves the strongest performance, at substantially higher model capacity.

Reasoning-Trace Overflow in Code Generation: An Empirical Study of Explicit Reasoning Models

Lukas Twist, Helen Yannakoudakis, Jie M. Zhang

原文摘要

Explicit reasoning can help language models generate code, but it also introduces a practical risk: the model may spend so much of its output budget reasoning that it never produces usable code. We study this behaviour in relatively small open-weight reasoning models, framing it as reasoning-trace overflow. Across seven models and six code benchmark settings, we measure how much of a fixed 32k-token output budget is spent on reasoning, whether that reasoning improves pass@1, and whether lightweight inference-time controls can mitigate overflow. Our results show that the value of reasoning is highly conditional. Overflow is rare on simpler function-level tasks, but becomes common on harder code-generation benchmarks and for particular model families: on several model--benchmark pairs, more than half of generations exhaust the full 32k-token budget while still reasoning. Most complete overflow is associated with repetitive reasoning loops, although substantial long reasoning also occurs without looping. Disabling reasoning can therefore be competitive for overflow-prone models, simply because it ensures that an answer is produced. At the same time, reasoning remains valuable for stronger models on harder algorithmic and code-understanding tasks. Finally, prompt steering can substantially reduce overflow for some models but is inconsistent, while budgeted transitions provide more direct control and can improve both performance and token efficiency for overflow-prone models. These findings suggest that explicit reasoning should be treated as a controllable resource for code generation, rather than an always-on capability.

Drift-adaptive Representation Preservation for Domain-Incremental Learning

Hyunmin Kong, Gyutae Oh, Jitae Shin

原文摘要

Pretrained vision models provide strong general-purpose representations, but in Domain-Incremental Learning (DIL), where the input distribution changes sequentially, adapting to new domains often degrades performance on previously learned ones. We observe that forgetting is not uniform across domains and classes and is not explained by training order alone. This motivates us to track each past domain-class concept individually. We use representation drift, defined as the deviation of a past concept's current representation from a fixed anchor, as a measurable surrogate for forgetting risk. The measured drift then serves two complementary roles. A consolidation loss assigns stronger preservation to high-drift pairs, while prototype construction down-weights highly drifted domains to reduce their influence on the class reference. Preservation is thus allocated by measured drift rather than assumed importance. To obtain this signal during training without storing past raw data, we repurpose a Joint-Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA). For each domain-class pair, we store only a compact context summary in the backbone feature space and rerun it through the learned context-to-target relation to measure its drift from the fixed anchor. Across DomainNet, Office-Home, CORe50, and CDDB-Hard, our method sustains a strong accuracy-forgetting balance on every benchmark, using substantially less training memory than accuracy-competitive methods and the smallest storage among compared methods.

原文摘要

This paper presents an overview of \emph{SciClaimEval}, a pilot task at NTCIR-19 on verifying scientific claims against the tables and figures of the papers in which they appear. Our dataset pairs authentic claims from 180 papers in machine learning, natural language processing, and medicine with contrastive versions of their tables and figures, one supporting the claim and one minimally modified so that it does not. The task comprises two subtasks: deciding whether a piece of evidence supports a claim, and selecting which of two evidence versions does. Twenty-two teams registered, the highest number among NTCIR-19 tasks, and 14 submitted 177 runs. Most systems built on multimodal large language models, relying on prompting and multi-stage inference rather than task-specific fine-tuning. On the first subtask, the best systems reached 98.1\% pair accuracy, but all six top-ranked systems relied on the contrastive pairs; the best system that judged each claim-evidence pair on its own scored 24.3 points lower. Open-weight models, embedded in carefully designed pipelines, matched proprietary ones. Yet verifying a single claim against its evidence, the setting that matters in practice, remains an open problem.

STARE: Scene Text-Aware multimodal Retrieval for Everyday objects

Kento Tokura, Ryosuke Korekata, Daichi Yashima, Kei Katsumata, Kanon Amemiya, Miyu Goko, Komei Sugiura

原文摘要

In this study, we focus on service robots that retrieve and transport everyday objects based on free-form instructions that may refer to visual features and scene text. This is challenging because it requires a multimodal understanding of the visual features and spatial relationships of objects, as well as scene text embedded in the environment. To address this, we propose Scene Text-Aware multimodal Retrieval for Everyday objects (STARE), which leverages visual and textual cues in response to free-form instructions. STARE introduces Crosslingual Visual Prompt to enhance scene text interpretation, and models the complex relationships between named entities in the instructions and their corresponding objects. We evaluate STARE using two novel benchmarks, GoGetIt and TextCaps-test, both of which consist of real-world indoor/outdoor images and instructions involving object manipulation and navigation. The results show that STARE outperforms all baseline methods on standard multimodal retrieval metrics. Furthermore, in physical experiments conducted under a zero-shot transfer setting, STARE achieves an overall success rate of 80%. Our project page and code are provided in the Supplementary Materials.

Schrödinger--Föllmer Actor--Critic: Diffusion Policy Improvement with Finite-Sample Analysis

Yuling Jiao, Lican Kang, Jerry Zhijian Yang, Jincheng Ying

原文摘要

Diffusion policies represent multimodal action distributions, but a $Q$-weighted update does not specify how to sample from the resulting target distribution. We propose Schrödinger--Föllmer Actor--Critic (SFAC), an offline-to-online reinforcement learning (RL) method for Kullback--Leibler (KL)-regularized policy improvement through conditional diffusion. A minimax Bellman critic estimates the action-value function, which defines an exponentially tilted target policy. A Doob $h$-transform expresses this update as a correction to the reference diffusion drift. The target drift is a weighted conditional mean of Brownian-bridge labels. We fit it by weighted regression using endpoints from the current policy and pointwise action-value evaluations. In the small-update regime, the KL-regularized update follows the natural policy-gradient direction, and the Doob correction represents the same local change in the space of diffusion drifts. Under suitable conditions, we derive finite-sample bounds that separate the errors from critic estimation, weighted neural drift regression, and diffusion discretization through a reverse-KL actor bound. The average-performance bound depends explicitly on the comparison coefficients over the policy iterations. Synthetic experiments assess approximation to prescribed tilted targets and sensitivity to the diffusion-step count. Across six offline-to-online continuous-control tasks, the $Q$-guided bridge-regression implementation achieves higher performance than its offline initialization after online policy improvement.

GeoBiaset: A Counterfactual Benchmark for Demographic Bias in World-Level Geolocalization

Niccolò Niccoli, Silvia Dani, Marco Mistretta, Andrew D. Bagdanov, Marco Bertini, Lorenzo Seidenari

原文摘要

World-level image geolocalization is an increasingly important task, yet the biases of current models remain poorly understood. Prior work has identified coarse dataset imbalances noting, for instance, that some cities are absent from training sets and that models tend to perform better in wealthier regions. However, no one has yet examined which visual cues drive these disparities. To do so, we introduce GeoBiaset, the first benchmark designed to measure how geolocalization models are influenced by the apparent race of a person inserted into the image foreground. The dataset consists of 9,541 images, pairing existing geotagged background images with counterfactual edits spanning seven races, holding the ground-truth coordinates fixed. Controlled masking experiments show that occlusion and background drift do not fully explain geolocalization degradation. Alongside the benchmark, we introduce the Person-Origin Perturbation Indicators (POPI), novel metrics that quantify model resilience to these demographic perturbations by measuring whether predictions are pulled toward the region associated with the inserted group. Our evaluation of state-of-the-art geolocalization and multimodal large language models reveals a 16-47% drop in continent-level performance when a subject from a demographically mismatched group is inserted. A landmark versus no-landmark analysis and gradient-weighted heatmaps show that models preferentially attend to geographic landmarks when present, but shift attention to facial features in their absence.

Shallow Encoding Emits Deep Memories

Mingyuan Ma, Yangmin Li, Harris Nover, Zheyu Fu, Po-Han Huang, Alex Settle, Ashwin Nanjappa

原文摘要

Hybrid language models interleave a few softmax-attention layers with many linear-attention or state-space layers, so every layer keeps a memory of earlier tokens: a key-value cache or a fixed-size recurrent state. Serving them spends more compute and high-bandwidth memory on these memories than the output requires. The prefill runs every layer for every prompt token, and every decode step loads and stores whole recurrent states, which on Qwen3.8-Flash-Next take as many bytes per request as the attention cache of thousands of tokens. We find two properties of trained hybrids that locate this excess. First, writes are easier than reads: writing a deep layer's memory of a token needs little of the deep computation that predicting the next token needs. Trained copies of the deep layers' write paths, which we call emitters, therefore write a prompt's deep memories from the residual stream of a shallower anchor layer, and all prompt tokens but the last run as few as 63% of the layers. Second, recurrent states have a state sink: most of their energy lies in a rank-one term along a fixed direction of each head, and the rest is a low-rank working memory. SEED builds on both: it makes the prefill shallow in depth and the decode state shallow in representation. Each recurrent state is stored as its sink plus low-rank factors, which the Gated DeltaNet, Kimi Delta Attention and Mamba-2 updates extend exactly; we prove that the open-loop error of the periodic compressions back to low rank is bounded independently of their number. SEED keeps the original weights frozen, compresses no attention cache, and runs all layers for every generated token. On six checkpoints of five production hybrids of 30B to over 300B parameters, it is nearly lossless on eleven official exams. Served with SGLang on NVIDIA GB300 GPUs on an agentic-coding trace, it raises the per-GPU throughput of Qwen3.8-Flash-Next 1.2-1.4x.

SleuthVLM: Do We Really Need Audio-in-Video for Omni Video Understanding?

Peiran Wu, Fangfei Gou, Zhaoxi Mu, Changhao Zhang, Jian Liu, Weiqiang Wang, Yuntao Wang, Yuanchun Shi 等 9 位作者

原文摘要

Omni models answer questions about videos by jointly processing sampled frames and audio in one turn, with progress driven largely by scaling model size and omni training data. We ask whether a model needs to hear the audio directly at all, and present SleuthVLM, an agent harness built on a VLM that never hears the audio directly: speech will be transcribed into text, and the VLM will sleuth the video on its own without any predefined workflow. On four omni benchmarks with videos up to 90 minutes, SleuthVLM achieves the best average accuracy: \textbf{75.0%}, 2.6 points above Gemini 3.8 Flash, and it also tops the Video-MME-v2 leaderboard with \textbf{77.8%}; with an open-source 27B VLM, it beats all open-source omni models. We draw three findings: SleuthVLM beats a model that glances; hearing is not the bottleneck, agentic ability is; omni understanding needs better agentic ability, not just more omni data for modality alignment. So we provide a simple but effective starting point for doing omni video understanding. Omni understanding needs better agents, not just bigger models that hear.

Catastrophic Overfitting is Weight Drift the Training Loss Cannot See

Chao Pan

原文摘要

Fast adversarial training (FAT) makes robust training affordable by replacing the multi-step attack with a single-step one, but it suffers from catastrophic overfitting (CO): partway through training, robustness to multi-step attacks collapses to near zero while the single-step attack used for training keeps being repelled. We show that CO is a quiet escape of the weights. Across the event the network's clean behavior quietly improves, and moving from the weights just before CO to those just after it changes the training objective only marginally while destroying most of the robustness. The training objective is therefore nearly blind to the displacement it causes, so it exerts no force to undo it. The exponential moving average (EMA) of the weights, which FAT protocols already maintain, does not accumulate this drift and stays robust through the entire event. This observation suggests a nearly free fix: when validation robustness drops, reset the weights to their EMA. We build this guard on top of a coupling-based base method designed so that its average stays inside the robust region. The resulting training removes CO in every one of our runs and attains the strongest AutoAttack accuracy among fast methods on all three benchmark datasets, including a clear margin on CIFAR-100, where it also clears the multi-step reference at roughly half its cost. Code is available at https://github.com/fzjcdt/co-weight-drift.

Bridging the Morphology Gap: Adapting VLA Models to Dexterous Manipulation via Intent-Conditioned Fine-Tuning

原文摘要

Pretrained vision-language-action (VLA) models offer semantic and spatial priors for robot manipulation, but their parallel-gripper interfaces leave multi-finger contact coordination implicit. Adapting these models requires both timely grasp transitions and embodiment-specific hand trajectories. We introduce InDex, an intent-conditioned framework that connects these two requirements. A normalized aperture signal, derived from retargeted demonstrations, supervises a scalar grasp intent while preserving full hand-action supervision. Stage 1 learns synchronized end-effector-intent chunks; Stage 2 conditions a diffusion hand decoder on these predictions, visual-language context, and proprioception. Sequential optimization establishes the upstream interface before learning dexterous control with low-rate co-adaptation. Across four simulated tasks, InDex with $π_{0.5}$ achieves 85.8% mean task success, improving the native policy by 35.5 percentage points, and reaches 69.0% on held-out objects with similar geometry without fine-tuning or recalibration. Improvements also hold across three VLA backbones and separately trained real-world policies, where mean success increases from 71.0% to 83.0%. Component ablations and timing interventions support the value of explicit grasp-intent conditioning and expressive hand generation. These results identify arm-hand coordination as an actionable bottleneck in adapting parallel-gripper priors to dexterous manipulation.

原文摘要

Diffusion-based Vision-Language-Action (VLA) policies have demonstrated strong generalization in robot manipulation, but their deployment can remain unreliable due to spurious visual reliance and stochastic action generation, leading to grounding failures and kinematically unstable behaviors. We introduce Selected Diffusion Noise (SDN), a training-free method that treats diffusion noise as a controllable degree of freedom for improving test-time reliability. SDN samples multiple candidate action chunks and applies two-stage selection: it first filters candidates based on task-relevant visual grounding using a counterfactual negative set, then selects the kinematically most stable chunk based on JerkRMS. Experiments on three VLA policies across both simulation and real-world environments show improvements of 8-10% and 18.33%, respectively, demonstrating SDN's effectiveness for test-time improvement.

SysPilot: Cross-Library Performance Autotuning via Library Performance Contracts

Yineng Yan, Haowei Chen, Christopher J. Rossbach

原文摘要

Modern scientific and machine-learning applications compose many independently developed libraries. When these libraries run together, their independently managed runtimes can oversubscribe shared resources: using the same CPU cores, fighting over GPUs, or contending for memory bandwidth. Avoiding such contention requires careful configuration across library boundaries. Existing autotuners do not directly investigate what resources are shared between libraries, which runtime signals correlate with interference. As a result, they are inefficient for finding optimal configurations to mitigate contention. This paper presents SysPilot, a cross-library performance autotuning system based on Library Performance Contract (LPC). A Library Performance Contract captures a library's resource demands, assumptions, controls, and observability signals in LPCL, a specification language for describing library resource requirements. SysPilot synthesizes contracts from documentation and code artifacts, composes contracts from the libraries used by an application, derives resource-conflict hypotheses, profiles the application to validate those hypotheses, and selects candidate configurations. This design makes the Library Performance Contract a reusable unit of performance knowledge: a contract for a library can be reused across many applications that depend on that library. We evaluate SysPilot on a benchmark suite of cross-library contention scenarios. The results show that SysPilot matches the performance of autotuners that rely on application-specific manual information while retaining cross-application reuse. Compared with general-purpose autotuners such as OpenTuner and SMAC3, SysPilot improves benchmark performance metrics by up to an additional 38% over the best configuration found by these autotuners, while using 3x fewer runs.

Wave Physics as Representation: Tensor-Structured Neural Reconstruction for Ocean Acoustic Fields

Yifan Sun, Panqi Chen, Weifeng Shi, Xiao Fu, Lei Cheng

原文摘要

Reconstructing three-dimensional (3D) complex ocean acoustic fields from sparse measurements is challenging due to highly oscillatory wave structures and restricted sensing patterns/routes. Learning-based approaches fall into two categories. First, purely data-driven models can learn complex field patterns, but do not explicitly exploit wave physics that may enhance interpretability and reduce training costs. Second, physics-informed methods impose a specified physical equation as a reconstruction constraint, but often require environment-dependent parameters that are difficult to acquire. As a result, practical 3D acoustic field reconstruction that is both physically grounded and robust to uncertain environmental information remains largely unexplored. This work takes an alternative route: instead of solving a fully specified wave equation, it extracts a structured representation from wave physics and learns its components from data. From the Helmholtz equation and normal mode propagation, we derive a structured spatial-angular tensor representation, termed the S/c representation. Under a low-rank specialization, it takes the form of a rank-(L,L,1) block-term tensor decomposition, which connects structured sampling patterns/routes used in ocean sensing to sufficient conditions for field recovery. Building on this tensor representation, we propose TIDAL, a neural reconstructor that uses the S/c representation as an inductive bias for structured decoding and aligns information aggregation with the sampling geometry. The neural learner removes the need for known model parameters required by conventional physics-based recovery methods. Experiments across three structured sampling geometries show that TIDAL achieves the best reconstruction performance and fastest inference among baselines, with benefits from the physics-derived representation under limited data and model capacity.

UniCompress: From Multi-LoRA Experts to One Compact Model for Edge Intelligence

原文摘要

Embodied and edge systems increasingly rely on vision-language models (VLMs) to support heterogeneous skills, yet deploying a separate task adapter for each skill while retaining a high-precision backbone creates substantial memory and management costs. We present UniCompress, a deployment-oriented framework that converts multi-task expertise into one compact, adapter-free model. Starting from a consolidated BF16 Qwen3-VL-4B teacher, UniCompress constructs an asymmetric INT2 student using GPTQ initialization and teacher-guided quantization recovery. The approach jointly quantizes and recovers the projection weights in the vision encoder and language backbone, enabling aggressive compression of the complete vision-language model while preserving its multi-task behavior. We evaluate UniCompress on four heterogeneous embodied tasks: posture recognition, household-safety understanding, multimodal dialogue routing, and mobile-GUI action prediction. UniCompress reduces the approximate weight storage from 8.9 GB in BF16 to 2.1 GB in INT2, corresponding to a reduction of approximately 76%. It improves the INT2 macro task score by 34.3 percentage points over GPTQ-INT2 while remaining within 0.9 points of the consolidated BF16 teacher. These results demonstrate the potential of teacher-guided joint vision-language INT2 recovery for deploying a single multi-skill VLM on resource-constrained embodied platforms.

Which One Is Sounding? Binaural Sounding Instance Disambiguation for Audio-Visual Segmentation

Haoze Ma, Yidi Li, Yu Ma, Pengyuan Zhao, Yi Shi, Bin Ren, Yanwen Guo, Dimitrios Kanoulas

原文摘要

Existing audio-visual segmentation methods mainly predict sound-related regions or category masks and often fail to identify the sounding instance when multiple same-class candidates coexist. Recent audio-visual instance segmentation methods address instance-level prediction but rely largely on motion and cross-frame association, which may become unreliable under sparse observations or inconspicuous motion. To this end, we introduce binaural audio, whose interaural differences encode source-direction information, to provide spatial constraints for distinguishing the sounding instance among same-class visual candidates. We propose Binaural Sounding Instance Disambiguation for Audio-Visual Segmentation (BiSID-AVS), which progressively refines category-level candidate responses into a mask of the true sounding instance. BiSID-AVS first grounds category-consistent candidate regions through audio prompting, then projects binaural cues into an image-plane spatial response map, and finally refines the true sounding instance through dual-level spatial conditioning at the feature and decoder levels. Experiments on the binaurally extended AVS-Synthetic benchmark and Habitat-AVS dataset for robotic indoor perception show that BiSID-AVS achieves the best performance on the multi-candidate subsets, improving instance-level mIoU by 35.19 and 41.21 percentage points, respectively, while substantially reducing false activation on non-sounding same-class regions.

RouTex: Multi-reference 3D Texture Generation by Reprogramming Rotary Position Encoding

Chengyang Li, Yang Liu, Jiale Zhang, Qiang Rao, Wei Zhang, Taicheng Huang

原文摘要

While single-image 3D texture generation has advanced significantly, conditioning texture synthesis on multi-view reference images remains largely under-explored, despite its necessity for resolving surface ambiguity in unobserved regions. In this paper, we propose RouTex, a novel multi-reference 3D texture generation framework based on in-context Diffusion Transformers (DiT). Our key insight is that native 3D Rotary Position Encoding (RoPE) inherently possesses spatial addressing capabilities. We introduce Positional Routing (PR) to reprogram 3D RoPE along spatial and semantic dimensions, establishing explicit reference-to-view correspondence without introducing additional parameters. To execute this routing efficiently, Dual-Granularity Attention (DGA) combines per-view local attention for fine texture fidelity with global joint attention over deduplicated references for cross-view consistency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RouTex achieves new state-of-the-art performance in multi-reference 3D texture generation.

原文摘要

Despite remarkable progress in instruction-based video editing, textual descriptions remain limited in expressing fine-grained appearance, spatial transformations, and temporal dynamics. We introduce Visual In-context Editing, a new paradigm that shifts video editing from text-only instructions to visual demonstrations, where users specify desired edits through heterogeneous visual references including single images, image pairs, and video pairs. To establish this paradigm, we curate VicEdit-400K, the first large-scale dataset for visual in-context video editing, containing 400K high-quality samples across ten editing tasks with comprehensive semantic and visual consistency filtering. Building upon this foundation, we propose VicEdit, a unified framework that enables effective reasoning over diverse visual contexts and textual instructions. Specifically, we introduce Modality-Adaptive Semantic Distillation to extract modality-aware visual editing semantics and Dual-Context Injection to align visual contexts with textual editing intents. Extensive experiments on VicEdit-Bench demonstrate that VicEdit achieves state-of-the-art performance on both conventional instruction-based editing and visual in-context editing. Further controlled studies and human evaluations verify that VicEdit effectively leverages heterogeneous visual references, establishing visual in-context editing as a promising paradigm for controllable video editing.

Fluidic Body: Swarm Robots as a Fluid Extension of the Hand

Michikuni Eguchi, Shigeo Yoshida, Mai Nishimura, Takefumi Hiraki

原文摘要

Swarm robots have attracted growing interest as a physical interface for human--computer interaction, since a swarm can reshape its formation to fit the objects and surroundings it works with. For a human operator, however, adapting the swarm's behavior remains difficult. Most existing methods require the user to specify where the swarm should go, and they offer no intuitive way to change the collective's behavior as each task demands. We present Fluidic Body, a system that lets a person operate a swarm of fluid-imitating robots as an extension of the hand. The system places a virtual fluid between the hand and the swarm, and the user adapts the swarm's behavior to each task by changing the fluid's properties through simple hand movements. When the user opens the hand, the swarm becomes soft enough to deform and flow around obstacles. Closing the hand turns it into a hard, cohesive body that can push objects. We evaluated the controller's performance and its operability in two simulation experiments and one demonstration with physical robots. First, our controller handled both obstacle avoidance and object transportation better than an existing method that behaves the same way in every task. Second, in a VR user study, 17 participants completed the combined avoidance-and-transportation task faster and more reliably than with that method. They also reported a lower workload and a stronger sense of agency. Finally, this experience carried over to physical robots in a real-world demonstration (88 participants). These results suggest that treating a swarm as a fluid, a material people already understand, allows a robot swarm to work as a deformable extension of the human body.

Offline Learning of Reserve Prices from Censored Bids

Lavanya Marla, Yunzong Xu, Boxuan Zhou

原文摘要

We study how a seller can learn a reserve price for a second-price auction from censored historical bid data. Because values below past reserves are unobserved, even unlimited data may not reveal which reserve earns the most revenue. Under a monotone hazard rate (MHR) assumption, we characterize exactly when an optimal reserve is identified, even though the value distribution may not be: either revenue has not yet begun to fall at the lowest historical reserve, so the best reserve lies among the observed bids, or the censored fraction is as large as MHR allows, which pins down the entire distribution. When identification fails, we derive the reserve that minimizes worst-case revenue regret over distributions consistent with the data, and prove that this unique minimax reserve and its regret depend on just two observable quantities: the censored fraction and the hazard just above the lowest historical reserve. With $N$ historical bidders, the optimal reserve is learned with expected worst-case regret $O(N^{-1/2})$ when it lies among the observed bids, and $O(N^{-1})$ from the censored count alone when the censored fraction is as large as MHR allows and the optimum lies at or below the lowest reserve. In the nonidentifiable regime, plugging estimates of the two quantities into the minimax reserve gives expected worst-case regret within $O(N^{-2/5})$ of the population minimum under local density smoothness, with a matching minimax lower bound on a smooth class. Beyond MHR, we solve the minimax problem for regular and unrestricted distributions and prove an $O(N^{-2/5})$ learning bound in the regular nonidentifiable regime, given known bounds on the boundary parameters. Experiments on synthetic and eBay data show gains from exploiting MHR and the benefits of the robust rule when parametric models are misspecified.

OpInf-LLM: Parametric PDE Solving with LLMs via Operator Inference

Zhuoyuan Wang, Hanjiang Hu, Xiyu Deng, Saviz Mowlavi, Yorie Nakahira

原文摘要

Solving diverse partial differential equations (PDEs) is fundamental in science and engineering. Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated strong capabilities in code generation, symbolic reasoning, and tool use, but reliably solving PDEs across heterogeneous settings remains challenging. Prior work on LLM-based code generation and transformer-based foundation models for PDE learning has shown promising advances. However, a persistent trade-off between execution success rate and numerical accuracy arises, particularly when generalization to unseen parameters and boundary conditions is required. In this work, we propose OpInf-LLM, an LLM parametric PDE solving framework via operator inference. The proposed framework leverages small amounts of solution data to enable accurate prediction of diverse PDE instances, including unseen parameters and configurations, and provides seamless integration with LLMs for natural language task specification and physics-based reasoning of proper feature parameterization. Its low computational demands and unified solution pipeline further enable a high execution success rate across heterogeneous settings, opening new possibilities for generalizable reduced-order modeling in LLM-based PDE solving.

PRISM-AMC: Replay-Free Continual Learning for Automatic Modulation Classification

Usman Akram, Matthew Graham, Haris Vikalo

原文摘要

Automatic modulation classification (AMC) is a key component of cognitive wireless systems, enabling spectrum awareness and adaptive communication. Most deep learning approaches to AMC assume a fixed set of modulation classes and access to previously observed training data. In practice, modulation classes and channel conditions may evolve over time, while storage or data-retention constraints may preclude replay of raw baseband I/Q samples. We propose PRISM-AMC, a replay-free continual learning framework that mitigates catastrophic forgetting by preserving task-relevant subspaces of intermediate representations via gradient projection memory. We further analyze projected stochastic-gradient updates under an SNR-dependent gradient-noise model. PRISM-AMC is evaluated in both class-incremental and domain-incremental settings. Experiments on the MIGOU and DeepSig 2018.01A datasets show substantially reduced forgetting relative to sequential fine-tuning and elastic weight consolidation, while remaining competitive with or outperforming replay-based RSD-AMC in class-incremental settings, without storing raw I/Q samples.

ProcessPrefBench: Evaluating Cross-Task Transfer of Individual Process Preferences from Naturalistic Human-AI Interaction

Yiwen Yang, Guanming Liu

原文摘要

In natural human-AI dialogue, users' corrections, requests, and self-descriptions carry reusable signals about how they want work to be done. These signals reveal individual process preferences, user-specific standards for evidence, depth, analytical focus, procedure, and delivery. We ask whether a preference revealed in one dialogue can shape an assistant's later answer when the task does not restate it. ProcessPrefBench uses three months of natural dialogues from two knowledge workers to build 66 source-target cases separately judged for source evidence and target applicability. Sources are preselected, so the benchmark tests application rather than retrieval. We test three models with target-only, full-history, and distilled-preference prompts. Target-specific 0-2 rubrics score preference realization, and a task gate flags severe failures. Compared with target-only prompting, full-history and imperative distilled-preference prompting raise preference realization by 0.204 and 0.244 points on the 0-2 scale, respectively, with no reliable advantage from distillation. Fabricated-evidence failures rise from 5.8% under target-only prompting to 10.1% under full-history and 10.4% under imperative prompting. ProcessPrefBench highlights a tension in learning from dialogue, where drawing on prior interactions can improve preference realization yet also invite fabricated evidence. We hope it helps build assistants that honor a user's process preferences without sacrificing factual reliability.

Learning From Static Context in Federated Time Series Forecasting

Viktor Walter, Andreas Wagner, Fabian Stricker

原文摘要

Time series forecasting is shifting from locally trained, per-series models to global models trained across many heterogeneous series, which requires learning what sets the series apart. When the raw data cannot be centralized, such a global model is trained with federated learning (FL), one client per data owner. State-of-the-art forecasters such as the Temporal Fusion Transformer (TFT) tell series apart through a static input that describes each series and does not change over time. In the special case of a federated setting where each client holds a single series, this static input is constant within each client and varies only across clients. We ask whether a federated TFT can learn from it. Per-batch FedAdam, which aggregates gradients after every batch, uses the static input almost as well as central training, whereas communication-efficient schemes with local epochs (FedAvg, FedAdam+Prox) extract far less from it and gain nothing significant on either application dataset. At the same local computation, an Adam-compatible SCAFFOLD keeps the static pathway responsive on wind power and gains significantly there. On building energy its error still drops, but the static pathway falls silent, so drift and communication frequency cannot be fully separated as the cause. Only per-batch FedAdam matches or beats the per-client local models across all datasets. We confirm the effect on building-energy meter data, a wind-power dataset, and a controlled synthetic dataset. The loss is not specific to the TFT: on the synthetic and the wind data two further architectures with different static-conditioning mechanisms show it as well.

原文摘要

Small LoRA adapters trained on Tajik news and books lowered Qwen3's Tajik text loss at every size we tried, from 0.6B to 8B, by 0.60 to 1.45 nats per token, but none of them improved Tajik reading comprehension where it can be measured. On Belebele the 1.7B and 8B adapters left accuracy unchanged and the 4B adapter lowered it by 3.7 points; at 0.6B the score rose by 4.2 points but sits near chance and coincides with a change in which answer letter the model prefers, so we do not read it as understanding. At 8B, continued pretraining on about 375 million tokens of raw Tajik text was followed by a Belebele gain of 9.9 points. After a further supervised fine-tuning stage, our main model, e3, is 11.4 points above Qwen3-8B on Belebele; its English MMLU changed by -1.2 points, and a loss larger than 3.3 points is excluded. The same heavy recipe applied to Qwen3-0.6B-Base brought its text loss close to that of the 8B model after books-only pretraining, while its multiple-choice answers stayed near chance and its English MMLU fell by 7.6 points. We report 15 trained models and their 5 starting models from June to October 2025, scored in 2026 on one harness with paired intervals, and we report what went wrong: lost training records, a thinking-mode dataset with almost no reasoning in it, later branches whose training data was never documented, and a 4-bit release that contains no transformer layers.

TouchéWorld tech report : Towards Online Unified Camera--Hand Exploration in Generative Worlds

Jiaao Yu, Yanjian Zhang, Haoyang Jiang, Guillaume Wisniewski, Nadi Tomeh, Shijie Jia

原文摘要

Recent video world models allow users to explore generated environments through camera navigation. Continuous hand motion provides a fine-grained action channel for interacting with the people and objects encountered during exploration. We present TouchéWorld, a framework that integrates gesture-driven interaction into a camera-controlled video world model. Given an initial image and a scene-description prompt, the model generates video conditioned on temporally aligned camera and hand controls. We construct joint camera--hand training data from heterogeneous egocentric videos through annotation completion, consistency-based filtering, and temporal alignment. Building on a pretrained camera-controlled world model, we combine spatial hand-skeleton conditioning with numerical hand-motion features through parameter-efficient adaptation. Causal adaptation and few-step distillation support chunk-level online generation, allowing users to update their controls based on generated visual feedback. We further introduce TouchéBench to evaluate hand-motion following, camera--hand coordination, online interaction, and object response. Together, these components establish a framework for studying continuous exploration and hand-driven interaction within generative worlds.

When Disclosure Is Compulsory: Evaluating Ride-Hailing Rebalancing Policies with Self-Interested LLM Driver Agents

Xinyu Wang, Andres Fielbaum

原文摘要

The EU Platform Work Directive, to be transposed by December 2026, requires ride-hailing platforms to state in plain language the main parameters of their automated decisions and how a worker's behaviour affects them. Such rules are exactly what a large language model (LLM) can read, so drivers will be able to let one decide for them. We compare two main families of rebalancing policy once their rules are public: a reactive policy (R) that sends idle drivers to cover requests just lost, and an anticipatory policy (A) that plans moves on a demand forecast. Each driver is an LLM agent maximizing its own net income, given no rules (N) or the rules at the directive's level of detail (L). We test two LLMs, Claude Haiku 5.5 and Jev, which understand the rules equally well, in a three-zone model and in Manhattan. With the rules disclosed, drivers follow the platform more closely: in Manhattan, the share of relocation offers they decline falls from about four in five to one in four under both policies. Yet the effects differ by policy. For the platform, disclosure costs R 3.7% of its profit in Manhattan, as R now pays for moves drivers used to make for free, while A's profit is unchanged; the two policies, which tie on profit under full compliance, end 6.1% apart. For drivers, disclosure raises income in the small model under both policies and LLMs; for users, it raises the service rate there by 10 to 18 percentage points. In Manhattan, self-interested drivers also make A a win-win-win against full compliance, raising driver income, platform profit and service rate by 10 to 12% each. Rebalancing policies that perform equally well under full compliance can thus show opposite results under mandatory disclosure. The study offers a framework to evaluate such policies under the new requirement and is, to our knowledge, the first to do so with LLM agents.

原文摘要

Tactile sensors are integral components of modern robotic systems, enabling robots to perceive and interact with the physical environment through tactile feedback. Despite their importance, the physical-layer security of tactile sensors has received little attention in prior work. In this paper, we present GhostTac, to the best of our knowledge, the first contactless attack that manipulates tactile sensing via electromagnetic interference (EMI). We identify that EMI exploits the nonlinear rectification and limited bandwidth amplification effects, allowing carefully crafted EMI signals to be converted into a persistent DC offset that bypasses on-board filtering and induces stable measurement deviations. Building on this mechanism, GhostTac enables fine-grained and controllable manipulation of sensor outputs by reshaping the spatial distribution and manipulating the magnitude at the targeted location. Such interference can induce unintended and harmful robot behaviors, such as causing a domestic robot to exert excessive force, resulting in physical damage or human injury. We evaluate GhostTac on 10 sensor modules and 2 dexterous hands, covering 15 tactile sensors of different types, and demonstrate consistent attack effectiveness across all tested devices. We further present three case studies on tactile grasping, slip detection, and material classification to illustrate practical impacts in real robotic tasks. We envision that our findings shed light on a new physical attack vector against tactile sensing in robotic systems.

SpanUQ: Span-Level Uncertainty Quantification for Large Language Model Generation

原文摘要

Uncertainty estimation is essential for the trustworthy deployment of LLMs: it underpins self-refinement and serves as a decision signal for downstream systems, from verifiers to collaborating agents. However, existing approaches operate at suboptimal granularities: token-level scores lack semantic coherence, while sequence-level scores fail to localize errors. We formalize Span-Level Uncertainty Estimation (SLUE), a new task that targets the natural granularity for uncertainty: semantically coherent text spans, each conveying a single assessable unit of meaning. To address this task, we introduce SPANUQ, a lightweight probe that distills the uncertainty knowledge from expensive multi-sample inference into a single forward pass over LLM hidden states. SPANUQ employs a DETR-style span decoder to simultaneously detect spans and estimate their uncertainty via a Mixture of Beta distribution, trained with a principled combination of Beta NLL regression and contrastive ranking objectives. We construct SPANUQ-BENCH, the first span-level uncertainty benchmark comprising 20K prompts, 293K annotated spans, and continuous soft labels derived from multi-sample claim verification. Experiments on five LLM backbones show that SPANUQ consistently achieves the best span-level uncertainty quality , outperforming the strongest probe baseline and all sampling-based methods while being 10~20x faster. Its DETR-based span detector attains 0.910 F1, surpassing the best heuristic by 39.4%, enabling precise error localization that sequence-level methods cannot provide. The same architecture ports to five LLMs spanning two model families, with one probe trained per backbone, and we additionally observe that sequence-level uncertainty is partially decomposable, suggesting that span-level estimation subsumes sequence-level as a special case. The project page is available damon-demon.github.io/SpanUQ.
