Time-to-Goal: Learned Temporal Metrics for Long-Horizon Planning with JEPA World Models

Ruilong Yu, Fei Ye

原文摘要

Joint-Embedding Predictive Architectures (JEPAs) support planning by comparing predicted latent states with an encoded goal. For this comparison to guide temporal progress, states closer in time to the goal should receive lower costs. However, training representations for prediction and distribution regularization does not directly enforce this ordering. We examine this mismatch in flat LeWorldModel (LeWM) by analyzing how its Euclidean goal cost changes with temporal separation. Our analysis identifies conditions under which states at different long offsets receive similar average costs, weakening their temporal distinction. To learn the missing ordering explicitly, we introduce Time-to-Goal (T2G), a lightweight metric trained on latent triples from offline trajectories. A margin ranking loss encourages smaller distances for temporally nearer states, requiring no rewards or policy labels. The learned metric then replaces the Euclidean planning cost while the JEPA encoder and predictor remain frozen. Diagnostics on AntMaze and FourRoom show that T2G preserves stronger temporal contrast and improves near--far ranking at long offsets. Across four navigation and manipulation benchmarks, T2G improves the average planning success rate from 32.7\% (flat LeWM) to 63.0\% and approaches or even surpasses the performance of the hierarchical H-JEPA baselines. These results show that learning temporal ordering for the goal cost can substantially improve latent planning even with a flat world model.

Isharah-Selfie: Continuous Sign Language Recognition Dataset for One-handed Signing

Ahmed Abul Hasanaath, Murtadha Aljubran, Sarah Alyami, Muhammad Haris Khan, Hamzah Luqman

原文摘要

Current sign language recognition and translation benchmarks are commonly collected in controlled settings using fixed or studio-style cameras, particularly limiting their ability to reflect how signers communicate in everyday mobile scenarios. As such, this gap becomes increasingly evident when considering the Arabic Sign Language (ArSL), which is a primary sign language used across Arab countries. In this work, we introduce Isharah-Selfie, a large-scale ArSL dataset collected entirely using front-facing smartphone cameras under unconstrained selfie conditions. The dataset comprises 8,997 video clips performed by 16 signers across 1,493 unique sentences, covering several domains such as healthcare, education, and transportation. Unlike conventional datasets dominated by fixed-camera, two-handed signing, Isharah-Selfie captures realistic mobile communication characterized by one-handed signing, close-range viewpoints, partial body visibility, camera motion, unconstrained environments, and heterogeneous device resolutions. Each video is annotated with both gloss sequences for continuous sign language recognition (CSLR) and Arabic sentence translations for sign language translation (SLT). Moreover, we define signer-independent and unseen-sentences evaluation protocols to assess generalization across unseen signers and novel sentence compositions. Extensive benchmarks using RGB-based and pose-based data show that current CSLR and SLT methods remain challenged by selfie-style signing conditions, particularly under unseen-sentence evaluation, where compositional generalization remains weak. By releasing Isharah-Selfie, we aim to support research toward robust, user-centered sign language technologies that operate reliably in realistic smartphone-based communication settings. The Isharah-Selfie dataset is available on https://isharah-selfie.github.io/.

Dual Flow: Joint Image-Measurement Flow for Inverse Problems

Sevket Ege Yesilyurt, Figen S. Oktem

原文摘要

Existing generative model-based approaches to linear inverse problems typically use the acquired noisy measurement to condition or guide sampling in the image domain. In this work, we introduce Dual Flow, a novel joint flow model for solving linear inverse problems by jointly estimating the clean image and its corresponding noise-free measurement from the observation. Specifically, Dual Flow formulates image reconstruction and measurement denoising as a coupled estimation problem, using coupled flows in the image and measurement domains. The acquired noisy measurement $\mathbf{y}_0$ is used only to initialize the measurement state; thereafter, the image and measurement states are jointly updated based on their current values. By construction, the final image and measurement estimates are guaranteed to satisfy the underlying forward model. We derive the sampling updates for the joint flow and show that they are governed by the conditional mean of the clean image given the current joint state. We further derive a closed-form expression for a sufficient statistic of the joint state and show that the required conditional mean can be obtained by solving an image-domain Gaussian denoising problem involving operator-dependent, correlated noise. We train a velocity-prediction network using this formulation to estimate the conditional mean from the derived sufficient statistic. Dual Flow requires no hyperparameter tuning beyond selecting the number of inference steps and achieves substantially shorter reconstruction times than competing methods. Extensive experiments across various linear inverse problems and image datasets demonstrate state-of-the-art performance in both distortion metrics and perceptual quality. Additional analyses assess robustness to model mismatch, as well as the ability to generate diverse plausible reconstructions and characterize reconstruction uncertainty.

PEARL: Prediction Error-Adaptive Regularized Learning for Selective Forgetting under Partial Preference Drift

Rashmi Gangadharaiah, Balakrishnan Narayanaswamy

原文摘要

User preferences shift as needs, context, and tastes evolve. This matters for personalized recommendation, LLM response generation, and RLHF-trained reward models, which can become miscalibrated as preferences drift. Existing non-stationary bandit methods forget uniformly across all dimensions, but real preference shifts are typically partial: some dimensions go stale while others remain valid. Neural contextual bandits accumulate confidence monotonically via the Gram matrix, with no mechanism to direct uncertainty where predictions have gone wrong. We propose PEARL (Prediction Error-Adaptive Regularized Learning), which reverses the Gram update along feature directions where predictions are surprisingly wrong, while leaving confidence intact elsewhere. We prove that (i) any non-adaptive policy suffers linear regret after a preference shift, (ii) no fixed exploration rate achieves low regret in both stationary and non-stationary regimes, and (iii) PEARL's cumulative regret scales with the number of shifted users N_s, not the total population N. On PRISM, a personalized LLM response selection benchmark (1,500 users, 21 LLMs), PEARL beats greedy by +4.0 points and the best neural bandit baseline by +2.5 points (p<0.001), while performing on par with greedy when preferences are stable. It beats sliding-window and discounted approaches by 3 to 10 points, showing that selective forgetting outperforms uniform forgetting. The selection policy is a ~100K-parameter MLP that runs in milliseconds on CPU, leaves LLM weights frozen, and works with any API-based model.

Vision Paper: Why Distributed LLM Post-Training and Decentralized Alignment Are Now Essential

Zhanhong Jiang, Qisai Liu, Soumik Sarkar

原文摘要

This vision paper argues that distributed learning, including federated and decentralized, should become a first-class paradigm in LLM post-training, not merely a privacy add-on. Current methods like RLHF and DPO rest on an invisible assumption: preference data should be centralized. We contend this assumption is scientifically unjustified, practically unsustainable, and ethically problematic. As LLMs deploy into healthcare, law, finance, and multilingual communities, preference data originates from populations that cannot or will not centralize. We develop a three-pillar argument grounded in (1) privacy and data sovereignty, (2) pluralism and representational equity, and (3) robustness and scalability. We formalize key technical challenges unique to this intersection, reference drift, preference heterogeneity, and the DP-utility trade-off for contrastive losses, and propose concrete algorithmic directions, and sketch a research agenda. Our analysis shows distributed post-training is not only necessary but tractable, and ignoring it risks AI that is legally noncompliant, representationally narrow, and brittle at scale.

RACE: Calibrated Cumulative Scoring for Rollout-Free Robot Policy Checkpoint Selection

Changyeon Kim, Yekyung Nah, Kimin Lee

原文摘要

Assessing the deployment performance of learned robot policies during training is challenging, as directly measuring task success requires costly real-world trials for each candidate checkpoint. Averaged validation loss offers a rollout-free alternative, but its checkpoint rankings can be inconsistent with deployment performance. We analyze two limitations of this criterion: it penalizes action deviations without considering whether the policy can recover from them, and gives later reference predictions equal weight even when earlier deviations may lead execution away from the reference. We propose RACE, a novel rollout-free metric for ranking checkpoints using a fixed set of held-out successful trajectories. RACE calibrates action deviations against state-conditional thresholds derived from action differences at similar states in these trajectories. We aggregate these scores through a running product, so that a substantial deviation reduces the contribution of subsequent reference predictions. Averaging the resulting cumulative scores over time and across trajectories yields the checkpoint score. In simulation, RACE outperforms baselines across validation sources, while several baselines degrade sharply when the validation set changes. On real robots, its rankings align with deployment success across the evaluated policy backbones and tasks of varying difficulty. Perturbation analyses further show that RACE distinguishes deviations with markedly different effects on task success, even when baselines respond similarly.

Pathwise-Budgeted LLM Routing: Online Allocation with K-Bit Tail-Cost Learning

Hanzhang Qin, Sophie H. Yu, Yuewei Zhang, Zhi-Hai Zhang

原文摘要

Firms using large language models under fixed budgets must decide which model to call and whether to retry a failed task. Because a call's charge is revealed only after completion, one long response can exhaust the remaining budget and leave later tasks unserved. Our objective is to maximize the number of tasks solved before service stops. We develop a contextual bandit policy, ADP-HT, which learns each model's task-specific success probability and constructs conservative cost estimates from coarsened response-length labels on a quantile grid with $2^K$ intervals. The policy weighs predicted success against these costs, adjusting the cost penalty to realized spending and the budget available per remaining task. Under calibration, local regularity, and grid-coverage conditions, we bound the excess allowance in the policy's conservative cost estimates. At a fixed sample size, increasing $K$ reduces the discretization term but increases the estimation allowance. At the tightest tested budgets, ADP-HT solves more than twice as many MATH500 and GPQA tasks as the best implemented baseline. It achieves the highest mean cumulative score at ten of fourteen RouterBench budgets. On LiveCodeBench, it outperforms a deployed commercial router in both default and cost-saving modes at the three lowest test budgets.

Dynamic Quadtree Tokenization and Transformer for Adaptive Mesh PDE Forecasting

Yilin Zhuang, Noah Zambrano, Karthik Duraisamy

原文摘要

The quadratic attention cost of Vision Transformers (ViTs) forces a trade-off between spatial resolution and rollout horizon, particularly for fine-scale PDEs where shocks, reaction fronts, and material interfaces occupy small, evolving regions of the domain. Conventional neural surrogates also lack mechanisms to adapt resolution dynamically. We propose WAMRViT, a ViT that tokenizes inputs as balanced quadtrees using a wavelet-inspired refinement criterion, jointly encodes position and refinement level with 3D rotary positional embeddings, and regrids in cell space during inference for stable long-horizon rollouts. A multi-scale variant retains each leaf at its native source resolution and lets the model learn across resolution levels. Unlike fixed-budget adaptive-tokenization methods, WAMRViT imposes no predetermined token count and supports fully adaptive topology throughout autoregressive rollout. To our knowledge, it is the first machine-learning surrogate to natively tokenize multi-level Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) data. On uniform-grid benchmarks, uniform-patch WAMRViT improves finest-level region-of-interest VRMSE over a finest-patch uniform ViT while using substantially fewer tokens. The multi-scale variant achieves the lowest first-step full-field RMSE and VRMSE on both benchmarks and improves rollout-averaged full-field and refined-region accuracy at long horizons. With parallelized regridding, its end-to-end rollout cost lies between finest-patch and approximately token-matched coarser-patch ViTs. On a complex AMR combustion problem whose finest features cannot be represented natively by the evaluated uniform-grid baselines, WAMRViT operates on adaptive cells built from the simulator hierarchy and substantially reduces finest-level error at matched transformer capacity. Panning for Gold: Expanding Domain-Specific Knowledge Graphs with General Knowledge

Runhao Zhao, Weixin Zeng, Wentao Zhang, Chong Chen, Zhengpin Li, Xiang Zhao, Lei Chen

原文摘要

Domain-specific knowledge graphs (DKGs) are critical yet often suffer from limited coverage compared to General Knowledge Graphs (GKGs). Existing tasks to enrich DKGs rely primarily on extracting knowledge from external unstructured data or completing KGs through internal reasoning, but the scope and quality of such integration remain limited. This highlights a critical gap: little systematic exploration has been conducted on how comprehensive, high-quality GKGs can be effectively leveraged to supplement DKGs. To address this gap, we propose a new and practical task: domain-specific knowledge graph fusion (DKGF), which aims to mine and integrate relevant facts from general knowledge graphs into domain-specific knowledge graphs to enhance their completeness and utility. Unlike previous research, this new task faces two key challenges: (1) high ambiguity of domain relevance, i.e., difficulty in determining whether knowledge from a GKG is truly relevant to the target domain , and (2) cross-domain knowledge granularity misalignment, i.e., GKG facts are typically abstract and coarse-grained, whereas DKGs frequently require more contextualized, fine-grained representations aligned with particular domain scenarios. To address these, we present ExeFuse, a neuro-symbolic framework based on a novel Fact-as-Program paradigm. ExeFuse treats fusion as an executable process, utilizing neuro-symbolic execution to infer logical relevance beyond surface similarity and employing target space grounding to calibrate granularity. We construct new datasets to establish the first standardized evaluation suite for this task. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ExeFuse effectively overcomes domain barriers to achieve superior fusion performance.

Structural Rationale Distillation via Reasoning Space Compression

Jialin Yang, Jiankun Wang, Jiajun Wu, Henry Leung, Jiayu Zhou, Steve Drew

原文摘要

When distilling reasoning from large language models (LLMs) into smaller ones, teacher rationales for similar problems often vary wildly in structure and strategy. Like a chef who makes the same dish differently each time, this inconsistency burdens the student with noisy supervision that is hard to internalize. We propose Distillation through Reasoning Path Compression (D-RPC), which constrains the teacher to follow a compact, dynamically maintained bank of reusable high-level reasoning paths. For each training question, D-RPC retrieves the most relevant path and conditions the teacher to follow it, producing rationales that are consistent across similar problems yet diverse enough to cover different problem types. A PAC-Bayes analysis formalizes a trade-off between bank size and coverage, with smaller banks limiting path diversity at the risk of coverage gaps. Our ablations favor an intermediate bank size, consistent with this trade-off. Across five math and commonsense reasoning benchmarks with two student models, D-RPC achieves the highest average accuracy among the evaluated distillation methods, while using fewer tokens than template-heavy alternatives.

Epiplexity Guided Data Selection and Generation for Out-of-Distribution Generalization

Ellen Su, Andres Potapczynski, Shikai Qiu, Edward Hughes, Andrew Gordon Wilson

原文摘要

Modern systems are increasingly expected to transfer across tasks not specified during training. What data facilitates generalization to unanticipated settings? One hypothesis is that data with more structural information could contain shared circuits and subprograms that may be recycled in a wider array of downstream settings. Epiplexity, a recently proposed measure of the structural information a compute-bounded learner can extract from data, offers a mechanism to reason about this relationship. As existing estimators for epiplexity only operate on data already seen during training, we show how to operationalize epiplexity as an online training signal by greedily maximizing its stepwise gain in two settings. For data selection, we fit scaling laws to the training loss curves of natural data domains to predict the expected epiplexity gain as a function of training tokens, and use this signal to adaptively determine the sampling weights over domains during training. For synthetic data generation, where no domain structure exists, we reward a generator with the change in epiplexity of a learner's synthetic training data and use REINFORCE policy gradients to guide the generator toward an epiplexity-maximizing distribution. In both cases, we find higher epiplexity predicts improved downstream performance on zero-shot and fine-tuning tasks, supporting the hypothesis that data rich in structural information yield representations that better transfer across domains.

Can One Adapted Model Do It All? Fine-Tuning Strategy Selection for Customer Support LLMs

Md Tahmid Rahman Laskar, Xue-Yong Fu, Shashi Bhushan TN

原文摘要

Production customer-support systems often require LLMs to support multiple skills, such as intent classification, question answering, summarization, or tool-use decisions. A central deployment question is whether these skills should be handled by separate task-specialist models or by a single model trained through multi-task training, sequential updates, or model merging. We study this question using thirteen models spanning five families (Qwen3, Qwen3.5, Gemma-3, Llama-3.1, and Mistral) from 0.6B to 32B parameters across eight customer-support datasets, spanning four public and four proprietary datasets with approximately 74.5k training and 8.7k evaluation samples. Under a fixed training protocol, we train more than 200 checkpoints. Our experiments reveal that multi-task full fine-tuning is the strongest operational default at every model size we test. Specialist models are strong on their target tasks but often degrade sharply off-task, making reliable routing important. Sequential Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) preserves earlier skills better than sequential full fine-tuning, while merging a specialist with its base model improves off-task robustness with limited same-task loss for larger models. We conclude with practical guidelines for selecting fine-tuning strategies in real-world settings.

SciToT: Multimodal Tip-of-the-Tongue Retrieval for Scientific Papers

Stan Fris, Sijie Tao, Makoto P. Kato, Maarten de Rijke

原文摘要

Researchers frequently encounter difficulties re-finding scientific papers when they remember aspects of the content but cannot recall reliable identifiers, such as titles or author names. This type of re-finding task, known as tip-of-the-tongue (ToT) retrieval, is particularly challenging for scientific documents, where recollections may involve textual information and visual elements, including figures, diagrams, and plots. Existing ToT retrieval benchmarks do not address scientific search. We introduce a multimodal benchmark for scientific ToT retrieval, comprising 108,512 open-access scientific documents across five domains and 11,499 synthetically generated queries. To construct the benchmark, we propose a scalable query elicitation pipeline that independently extracts textual and visual memory cues from source documents and uses large language models to generate queries resembling incomplete human recollections. We characterize scientific ToT information needs through an empirical analysis of publicly available re-finding requests and use the outcomes to assess the generated queries using human annotations and automated quality control. The benchmark includes lexical, dense, late-interaction, and visually grounded retrieval baselines. We release the dataset, extracted document representations, generated memory cues, evaluation splits, and accompanying generation and retrieval pipelines under an MIT license to facilitate research on multimodal scientific paper re-finding.

TAGR: Temporally Adaptive Generative Recommendation for Industrial Live-Streaming Advertising

原文摘要

Live-streaming advertising is an important monetization channel on short-video and e-commerce platforms, where rapidly changing live content, promoted products, and user feedback impose strong freshness requirements on recommendation models. Existing generative recommenders designed for static domains fail at three levels: static semantic IDs (SID) cannot track evolving live ads; single-scale behavior modeling misses shifting intent; preference optimization conflicts between fresh on-policy feedback and training stability. We propose TAGR, a generative recommendation framework with temporal adaptation at three levels: live-ad tokenization, user intent modeling, and preference alignment. At the token level, Live Semantic-Collaborative ID (LSID) periodically refreshes each active ad's SID based on its current live scene and promoted products, while retaining a stable hierarchical token vocabulary for autoregressive generation. At the intent level, Intent-Aware Generation (IAG) models live-room entry histories at multiple temporal granularities as the primary intent sequence, keeps auxiliary behaviors as separate inputs, and weights next-token prediction (NTP) using post-request intent evidence and business value. At the alignment level, Intermittent On-Policy Preference Optimization (IOPO) periodically samples fresh candidate groups from the current policy and performs behavior- and value-aligned preference updates interleaved with supervised NTP maintenance to preserve learned behavior distribution. Deployed on a large-scale e-commerce live-stream advertising platform, TAGR improves live-room entry and shopping-cart click rates by 8.5% and 7.4%, respectively, and achieves a 16.1% revenue lift over the production baseline. These results demonstrate the effectiveness and industrial viability of temporally adaptive generative recommendation for live-stream advertising.

Autonomy and Coordination in Intelligent Manufacturing: A Recursive Autonomous Agent Framework

Yuning Chen, Hongda Zhang, Linqiang Hu, Ziqing Zhou, Yi Liu, Zhao Huang, Ding Zhou, Haining Xu

原文摘要

Intelligent production requires systems to make decisions and organize work according to production goals and operating conditions. It also requires continuous adjustment through feedback. This paper analyzes intelligence in human production organizations from a complex adaptive systems (CAS) perspective. The analysis identifies two coupled mechanisms: individual autonomy and collective coordination. Individual autonomy enables actors to form local decisions using available information. Collective coordination aligns these decisions with shared goals and joint constraints. Learning and adaptation improve both mechanisms over time. A production-system model formalizes how local decision rules and coordination jointly form system decisions. On this basis, we propose the Recursive Autonomous Agent (RAA) framework, which combines goal-driven autonomous agents with a recursive organizational structure. Goal contracts define local objectives and operating boundaries, while capability contracts support the selection and composition of production units. Common interfaces allow coordinated groups to participate as units in larger organizations, connecting equipment, production lines, and factories. RAA thus provides an engineering approach to next-generation intelligent manufacturing, translating the requirements of intelligence, openness, and system-wide integration into mechanisms for autonomous and coordinated production.

Driving Video Retrieval for Complex Queries with Structured Grounding

Manyi Yao, Sparsh Garg, Christian Shelton, Amit Roy-Chowdhury, Abhishek Aich

原文摘要

Video retrieval at scale is central to data curation and safety validation in autonomous driving, where users want to find not only scenes but also dynamic events such as cut-ins and hard braking. Existing vision-language and keyword-based retrieval methods often miss these events because the relevant motion may not be explicitly described in text or captured by lexical overlap. Rule-based retrieval can encode such events more directly, but it is brittle: generated or hand-written rules often fail when their assumptions do not match real driving data. We propose STRIVE-D, a data-calibrated retrieval framework for driving videos. It uses weakly labeled in-domain videos to estimate when a query rule is reliable, adapt rules that mismatch observed data, and fuse calibrated rule scores with vision-language and keyword-based retrieval signals. Across three driving benchmarks, including newly released human-annotated event data on DrivingDojo, STRIVE-D delivers up to 84% relative improvement in top-1 accuracy over state-of-the-art methods.

Distill to Think, Foresee to Act: Cognitive-Physical Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Driving

Yang Wu, Qiang Meng, Zhaojiang Liu, Youquan Liu, Jian Yang, Jin Xie

原文摘要

Current end-to-end autonomous driving models are fundamentally constrained by the behavioral cloning ceiling of imitation learning. While reinforcement learning offers a path to smarter autonomy, it demands two missing pieces of infrastructure: (1) a cognitive foundation that understands traffic semantics and driving intent, and (2) a foresighted physical environment that can anticipate the consequences of candidate actions. To this end, we propose CoPhy, a CognitivePhysical reinforcement learning framework for autonomous driving. To distill to think, we distill VLM knowledge into the BEV encoder and then discard the VLM entirely, retaining cognitive ability at zero inference cost while releasing the cognitive channel as a pluggable interface for optional human language commands. To foresee to act, we build an auto-regressive BEV world model that explicitly predicts future semantic maps conditioned on candidate actions, serving as an interpretable physical sandbox from which safety metrics are directly derived. Built upon this dual infrastructure, we optimize the driving policy via GRPO with a novel dual-reward mechanism: a physical reward derived from BEV rollouts enforces hard safety constraints, while a cognitive reward from a language-aligned scorer ensures intent compliance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CoPhy not only achieves state-of-the-art results on NAVSIM v1 and v2 benchmarks, but also enables safer driving via cognitively informed scene compliance and flexible intent control through user-defined language instructions. TandemBench: Benchmarking Decision Models for Multi-Agent Collaboration

Baohang Li, Xiaocheng Feng, Bing Qin

原文摘要

Decision models choose among predefined options in tasks such as routing and action selection. In multi-agent collaboration, a decision determines how members divide work, exchange resources, and act in parallel. We introduce TandemBench, a benchmark of 1,200 questions in multi-agent cooking scenarios where coordination choices affect goal completion. Models receive complete global information and candidate team plans, with reference answers established through execution and exact search. Models select an optimal team plan and, in paired variants that retain or remove it, judge whether better arrangements exist beyond the supplied options. We evaluate 40 native decision models and compare them with 10 general-purpose language models. The best native decision model achieves 62.50% decision accuracy. Native decision models remain close to chance in optimality verification. Paired tests reveal that some report better alternatives regardless of whether an optimal plan is already present. These findings show that team-plan decision accuracy alone can conceal systematic errors in judging whether the supplied options contain an optimal arrangement. The dataset and evaluation code are publicly available at https://github.com/lililibaohang/TandemBench.

DualCast: Dual-Image Conditioned Diffusion Transformers for Digital Human E-Commerce Video Generation

Lifan Jiang, Yibo Zhao, Senlin Cheng, Bolei Xu, Xiaobo Li, Can Ye, Dehai Zhao, Deng Cai 等 9 位作者

原文摘要

Digital human e-commerce video generation requires preserving product appearance, human identity, and overall video style during dynamic demonstrations. Although recent models support multiple reference images, their general conditioning schemes do not explicitly distinguish the asymmetric roles of "what is presented" and "who presents it." Consequently, generated videos may favor a single reference, resulting in product distortion, identity drift, or single-reference collapse. To address this issue, we propose DualCast, a role-addressed dual-image conditioning framework for video generation. By explicitly modeling the distinct roles of product and human conditions, DualCast reduces role ambiguity and feature competition between references. First, a dual-spatiotemporal slot injection mechanism VAE-encodes the product and human images separately and places their latent features at the front and rear boundaries of the DiT sequence, enabling sequence-level condition separation and directed injection. Second, a mask-guided region-weighted loss strengthens supervision over product, face, and product-face overlap regions, improving generation fidelity in critical areas. Third, image condition dropout enables a single model to support dual-image, product-only, and human-only generation. In addition, we construct a curated dataset of 10K e-commerce videos for model training. Experimental results demonstrate the strong performance of DualCast.

A Hybrid Approach for Automated Security Pattern Recovery

Anh Minh Nguyen, Tuan Dat Tran, Alzubair Hassan, Liliana Pasquale

原文摘要

Security-by-design emphasises integrating security into software design and development. Security pattern catalogues operationalise this principle by prescribing reusable architectural solutions to recurring security problems. However, recovering their implementations from source code remains challenging because security patterns are abstract, span multiple components, and admit many valid implementations. We present SecPatRec, a hybrid approach for automated security pattern recovery from source code repositories. We treat a security pattern as a reference architecture and frame its recovery as a deductive task: determining which prescribed roles are present, grounding them in code entities, and recovering their interaction sequences. SecPatRec pairs a ReAct-style LLM agent equipped with semantic and lexical code search for role detection and grounding with static code property graph analysis for interaction recovery. We curate a human-validated ground-truth dataset of 100 pattern instances covering five security patterns across 93 open-source Java and Python repositories, and introduce a three-level evaluation framework measuring recovery correctness against this ground truth. We evaluate SecPatRec using four LLMs, including proprietary and open-source models. Averaged over all models and pattern instances, SecPatRec achieves role-detection accuracy of 0.84, role-grounding similarity of 0.84, and an interaction-recovery score of 0.66. Compared to a one-shot end-to-end LLM baseline, SecPatRec achieves higher aggregate recovery scores and lower estimated LLM API costs per run, while processing repositories that exceed the baseline's configured input limit. The recovered role mappings and statically derived interaction sequences provide structural and behavioural evidence that can support inspection of security-pattern implementations.

原文摘要

Marine surface vehicles (MSVs) have attracted considerable attention for their commercial, scientific, and military applications. Owing to their favorable performance-to-cost ratio, shipboard cameras are widely used to detect and recognize potentially hazardous situations across diverse operational scenarios. However, visual perception is inevitably degraded by restricted conditions, including irregular motion of the imaging platform, adverse weather, and long imaging distances. To improve situational awareness and navigation capabilities, complementary sensors, such as the automatic identification system (AIS), radar, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR), etc., have become essential shipboard equipment. Multi-sensor fusion can provide richer perceptual information and help ensure navigational safety of MSVs in restricted visibility. This article reviews recent progress from intelligent vision to vision-centered multi-sensor fusion for newcomers and researchers in intelligent ship navigation and intelligent waterborne transportation system (IWTS). After introducing the generation of quality-degraded images in restricted visibility, we will review intelligent vision methods for four key issues, i.e., shipboard video stabilization, visual perception enhancement, object detection and tracking, and navigable area segmentation. We then examine vision-centered multi-sensor fusion methods, including infrared-visible image fusion, radar-vision fusion, LiDAR-vision fusion, AIS-vision fusion, and other multi-sensor fusion scenarios. Open-source datasets and safety-critical applications are also summarized and discussed. Finally, we highlight open challenges and future research directions. The collected maritime datasets are available at https://github.com/MAPGroup/Datasets and will be regularly updated.

MASBench: Benchmarking LLM-based Multi-Agent Collaboration under Partial Observability

Qizhi Chu, Zekai Yu, Sijie Wen, Yang Liu, Chen Qian, Cheng Yang, Chuan Shi, Zhiyuan Liu

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) have progressively evolved into the core of autonomous agents. Building on this progress, LLM-based multi-agent systems (MAS) coordinate multiple agents into a synergistic team to accomplish complex tasks that exceed the capabilities of individual agents. The effectiveness of such systems depends not only on the agents themselves, but also on how collaboration mechanisms are designed and organized. Note that real-world collaboration is typically partially observable, where each agent can only access partial information about the environment due to physical or privacy-related constraints. However, many existing multi-agent benchmarks assume global observability, and leave limited support for systematically evaluating collaboration mechanisms. To bridge this gap, we introduce MASBench, a multi-agent collaboration benchmark designed under partially observable constraints. It is organized into three progressive task categories: Reasoning, Scheduling, and Game. Through this structure, we progressively evaluate three representative collaboration mechanisms: Protocol, Memory, and Routing. MASBench further provides deterministic evaluation metrics, including performance score, communication cost, and cost effectiveness, to characterize both collaboration outcomes and communication overhead. Experiments across diverse LLM backbones and mechanism configurations offer empirical guidance for effective MAS design. Code is available at: https://github.com/BUPT-GAMMA/MASBench

Learning When Human Decisions Matter: Executor-Relative Consultation Value for LLM Agents

Shuli Jiang, Khushbu Pahwa, Yuting Zhang, Yi Zhang, Wei Xia, Stefano Soatto

原文摘要

Large language models increasingly automate complex tasks, but human decision capacity does not scale with their capabilities. In many applications, humans remain essential for providing private context, authority, or judgments unavailable to the agent. We formulate human decision capacity allocation: given multiple consultation opportunities and a limited budget, at which decisions should an LLM agent consult a human? The central challenge is estimating consultation value, which is executor-dependent because the same human input may benefit different downstream agents differently. We introduce Consultation Value Distillation (CVD), which estimates consultation values offline using Monte Carlo executor rollouts and distills these values into lightweight predictors for budgeted allocation, requiring no rollout-based value estimation at deployment. Across five batch and three sequential settings with two frontier executors, CVD improves allocation through joint and continuation-aware value learning, while independent consultation values remain competitive in several settings. CVD also broadly outperforms direct prompting and Value of Information where applicable, remains robust with substantially less rollout supervision, and enables nearly lossless approximate allocation at low search cost.

Towards the Query Complexity of Sampling under Strong Log-Concavity and Log-Sobolev Inequalities

Huanjian Zhou, Taiji Suzuki

原文摘要

We study the query complexity of sampling from smooth distributions on $\mathbb R^d$ using first-order oracles. For $d$-dimensional strongly log-concave targets with condition number $κ=2$, we prove that any randomized sampler requires $\exp({Ω(\log^{1/3} d)})$ queries even from a constant warm start. This rules out polylogarithmic dimension dependence and strictly separates strongly log-concave sampling from Gaussian sampling. For targets with $L$-smooth potentials satisfying an $α$-log-Sobolev inequality with $κ= L/α$, we prove an $Ω(κ)$ query lower bound for $d\gtrsim\log^2κ$. This shows that log-Sobolev sampling is strictly harder than strongly log-concave sampling. Our proofs construct instance-dependent tests that target samples typically pass but outputs of algorithms making few queries typically fail. For strongly log-concave targets, we embed a sequence of hidden Gaussian into high-degree tensor polynomial with smooth gates, forcing any algorithm to uncover the layers sequentially. The log-Sobolev construction hides a constant fraction of the target mass in angular caps while controlling the log-Sobolev constant via delicate estimates.

ReTailor: A Residual Feature Tailoring Framework for Real-Time Cross-Sensor Pansharpening Adaptation

Jing-Ze Liang, Wei-Jie Xiao, Zi-Han Cao, Yang-Dong Li, Tian-Yi Hu, Liang-Jian Deng

原文摘要

Recent pansharpening models achieve strong fusion performance on trained sensors, yet often generalize poorly to unseen sensors. Existing cross-sensor adaptation is limited by target-sensor retraining, which requires target-sensor training pairs and a dedicated training stage, and by per-image zero-shot adaptation, which is computationally expensive due to whole-network optimization for each test image. To address these problems, we propose ReTailor, a real-time sequential cross-sensor adaptation framework. Only a lightweight residual Feature Tailor is rapidly optimized under self-supervised, physics-aware constraints to correct cross-sensor shifts without modifying the well-learned fusion prior. For efficient and effective deployment, ReTailor combines content-aware patch selection, which identifies a few informative patches per image for optimization at negligible cost to improve both quality and efficiency, with rolling residual bootstrap, which inherits sensor-related knowledge across the image stream to further improve quality. Extensive experiments on cross-sensor adaptation settings show that ReTailor mitigates cross-sensor degradation both effectively and efficiently. Moreover, we compare ReTailor with Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA), a widely used method for fine-tuning, to demonstrate the advantages of our approach. We further evaluate the core principle of ReTailor on two additional remote sensing tasks: super-resolution pansharpening and image segmentation, where it consistently improves performance. In general, ReTailor provides a highly effective and efficient strategy for deploying pansharpening models under real-world cross-sensor degradation, while also offering useful insights into managing cross-sensor degradation in other remote sensing tasks. Code will be released at https://github.com/JingZe-Liang/ReTailor .

Labadain-MedQA: A Tetun Medical QA Dataset for Fine-Tuning and Evaluating Large Language Models

Gabriel de Jesus, Sérgio Nunes

原文摘要

Advances in large language models (LLMs) have created opportunities for cross-lingual transfer of medical knowledge from high-resource to low-resource languages to support access to healthcare information. However, medical question-answering (QA) datasets for fine-tuning and evaluating LLMs remain scarce for Tetun. To address this gap, we translated MedAlpaca's Medical Flashcards and WikiDoc Patient Information collections into Tetun using Gemini 2.5 Flash, producing 39,077 medical QA pairs. Translation quality was assessed on 50 randomly sampled QA pairs (100 documents) using automatic metrics against human reference translations and evaluations by two native Tetun-speaking healthcare professionals, focusing on medical accuracy and Tetun fluency. Human translations achieved higher mean ratings than LLM-generated translations for both criteria (4.43/5 vs. 4.02/5), with statistically significant differences (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, p < 0.001). To assess downstream utility, we fine-tuned Gemma and Llama variants on the translated MedAlpaca dataset using parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) and evaluated them on 325 Tetun-translated United States Medical Licensing Examination multiple-choice questions. Gemma 4 12B fine-tuned using QLoRA achieved relative improvements in mean accuracy of 10.79% with 4-bit NormalFloat (NF4) inference and 10.42% after merging the LoRA adapters into the BF16 base model, compared with the corresponding base models. These results highlight the viability of automatic dataset translation for Tetun medical QA and the effectiveness of PEFT in enhancing model performance. The datasets, models, and evaluation resources are accessible at https://github.com/labadain/labadain-medqa to support reproducible research on Tetun medical QA and facilitate machine translation, cross lingual, and multilingual research.

The Scope Grammar of Natural-Language Rules: Counting and Enumerating Readings modulo Logical Equivalence

Sherzod Turaev

原文摘要

A rule written for people fixes its atomic conditions and connectives but leaves open how the connectives are bracketed, and each bracketing is a different logical reading that an autoformalizer must resolve or expose. We study the scope grammar, a deliberately ambiguous context-free grammar whose derivation trees are the readings of a connective skeleton and whose quotient by logical equivalence is what matters downstream. A skeleton with $k$ binary connectives has $C_k$ derivation trees, the $k$-th Catalan number, but far fewer logically distinct readings. For the positive, repetition-free fragment we make the gap exact: through the uniqueness of the read-once normal form we characterize the realizable normal forms by lowest common ancestors and count them with a two-label recurrence over the operator word, verified against exhaustive enumeration up to eleven atoms. The count is invariant under reversal and $\wedge/\vee$ duality; a skeleton is ambiguous if and only if it uses both $\wedge$ and $\vee$, a one-pass test; and the number of classes is at least $2^{\lfloor n/3\rfloor}$. Up to fifteen atoms the alternating pattern is the worst case; its count has a cubic generating function, is the 3-Schröder sequence (OEIS A137842), and grows with base $\varphi^{5/2}\approx3.330$, below the Catalan base 4. We reduce maximality to an inequality on increments, verified to sixteen atoms, and explain why local exchange arguments cannot prove it. We also treat negation, exceptions, and background axioms, where normal-form uniqueness still decides equivalence but counting is open.

When File Ingestion Misleads Language Models: Measuring and Mitigating Divergences in Office Documents

Penghui Li

原文摘要

Office documents are now routinely uploaded to large language models (LLMs) for processing. However, an LLM does not always see what a human sees, because it typically reads the text that an extractor produces from the document's underlying Office Open XML (OOXML) files. Depending on the implementation, extractors differ in which OOXML parts they read and how they interpret them, so their output can differ from what Office applications display. For example, by slightly shifting the positions of text boxes on a slide, an adversary can swap the order in which the model reads them while the slide looks unchanged. We show that this extraction divergence is an attack surface for LLM applications. In this work, we first measure what an adversary can exploit by analyzing the widely used extractors that LLM applications rely on. By combining static source code analysis with dynamic analysis, we identify 19 OOXML channels where extractors read content a human cannot see and 12 where they drop content a human can. We also find that widely used extractors ignore display formatting and reading order, so even visible content reaches the model in a different form. Building on these findings, we construct five attacks that lead the model to interpret a document differently from a human reviewer, without injecting any instruction. We test the attacks on four major chat assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft 365 Copilot) and four coding agents (Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity, and GitHub Copilot CLI), and every one of them is misled by at least one attack. Finally, we propose Prism, a lightweight defense that reconstructs the human view from the OOXML specification before passing the text to the model. Prism also generalizes to unseen attack payloads.

Principal Trait Analysis: Identifying User Behavioral Traits in Human-AI Collaboration

Hunter McNichols, Fareya Ikram, Kai Du, Andrew Lan

原文摘要

Human-artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration takes many forms and occur in both professional and educational scenarios. It is important to identify how human users interact with AI and how their behavior affects task success and learning outcomes. Existing approaches often rely on predefined behavioral categories or derive patterns without establishing their relationship to outcomes. In this work, we propose Principal Trait Analysis (PTA), a data-driven method for identifying interpretable behavioral traits from human-AI collaboration dialogues. Our method analyzes large corpora of human-AI collaborative session traces, derive common traits across the dataset, scores each human collaborator on how well their interaction aligns with these traits, and selects a set that covers the most variance across users. While unsupervised and data-driven, our method also enables domain expertise to be injected during trait identification. We evaluate PTA on two human-AI collaborative coding datasets and investigate how the traits predict future task success, learning outcomes, and evolve over time.

Variable Bound Tightening for Nash Equilibrium Computation in Multiplayer Imperfect-Information Games

Sam Ganzfried

原文摘要

There has been significant recent progress in algorithms for approximation of Nash equilibrium in large two-player zero-sum imperfect-information games and exact computation of Nash equilibrium in multiplayer strategic-form games. While counterfactual regret minimization and fictitious play are scalable to large games and have convergence guarantees in two-player zero-sum games, they do not guarantee convergence to Nash equilibrium in multiplayer games. Recently, an approach has been presented for exact computation of Nash equilibrium in multiplayer imperfect-information games that solves a quadratically constrained program based on a nonlinear complementarity problem formulation derived from the sequence-form game representation. This formulation was solved using Gurobi's nonconvex quadratic solver, which employs spatial branch-and-bound to iteratively refine variable bounds by solving convex relaxations of bilinear terms. During presolve, Gurobi introduces auxiliary variables and, in some cases, binary variables, leading to an internal mixed-integer quadratically constrained program. This approach was demonstrated to outperform prior algorithms from the Gambit software suite and quickly solve three-player Kuhn poker after removal of dominated actions; however, the algorithm was not able to solve the full version of the game within 24 hours. In this paper, we derive finite bounds on slack and multiplier variables in the nonlinear complementarity formulation. These bounds can strengthen the convex relaxations used within spatial branch-and-bound. We compare uniform corollary bounds with finer proposition-based bounds on full three-player Kuhn poker. All eight bounded configurations return numerically verified equilibria in under 17 seconds, while the unbounded formulation finds no feasible solution within 300 seconds. The finest bounds do not consistently yield the fastest computation.
