A.S.E 2.0: Understanding How Repository Context Impacts the Security of LLM-Generated Code

Jiongchi Yu, Keke Lian, Junqing Wang, Zhikang Fan, Zhaoxuan Li, Yongheng Huang, Ziming Zhao, Dong Zhang

Large language model (LLM) coding assistants and agents construct a repository context before generating code. For security-sensitive code, this context decides whether the model sees the project's safeguards (e.g., authorization checks) or insecure code to imitate. However, context construction is designed almost exclusively for functional correctness, and secure-code benchmarks treat the context as fixed, so how repository context affects the security of generated code remains unclear. We construct CASE-Bench, a benchmark of 145 repository-level tasks from real CVEs in 51 projects. Each task runs in Docker, has functional tests and a proof-of-concept exploit validated in both directions, and is annotated with the repository code that enforces or undermines its security. Using CASE-Bench, we compare 13 context construction methods and six controls with six LLMs, edit single context elements, and analyze coding-agent trajectories. We find that (1) functionality-oriented context raises the functional pass rate by up to 8.2 percentage points (pp) but the secure pass rate by at most 3.7 pp, (2) withholding a safeguard lowers the secure pass rate by up to 8.1 pp, while one inserted insecure exemplar raises correct-but-exploitable code by 6.3 pp, and (3) coding agents observe the relevant safeguard in only 27-36% of trajectories. These findings inform security-aware context construction and secure-code evaluation.

ReactWorld: Structuring Interaction Responses for Embodied Video Generation

Hanwei Liu, Huijia Zhang, Hanzhang Wang, Guangyu Liu, Hanbei Zhan, Linjie Hu, Bin Xiao, Xuan Zhou 等 9 位作者

Embodied video world models predict scene changes caused by robot actions, yet generated object responses may remain inconsistent with task intent and contact dynamics. Critical responses in embodied scenes often concentrate in local regions and specific time intervals. Inspired by chain-of-thought reasoning, we introduce ReactWorld, an embodied video generation model guided by structured interaction anticipation. In the generation backbone's feature space, an interaction response field predictor anticipates how the interaction will unfold, explicitly describing participant roles, future motion response intensity, and local motion changes. A response feedback adapter forms increments to object features from the difference between the object branch's outputs with predicted and zeroed local dynamics inputs. It also converts predicted displacements into positional biases for temporal attention. These two mechanisms guide object feature updates and information retrieval across frames, respectively. Through interaction anticipation and generative feedback, ReactWorld achieves an average score of 77.51 on RBench, outperforming PhysisForcing by 3.29 points with improvements in all nine categories. On EZS-Bench, it achieves a Domain score of 86.98 and an average score of 81.87.

UpSafe$^\circ$C: Upcycling for Controllable Safety in Large Language Models

Yuhao Sun, Zhuoer Xu, Shiwen Cui, Kun Yang, Lingyun Yu, Yongdong Zhang, Hongtao Xie

Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable progress across a wide range of tasks, but remain vulnerable to safety risks such as harmful content generation and jailbreak attacks. Existing safety techniques---including external guardrails, inference-time guidance, and post-training alignment---each face limitations in balancing safety, utility, and controllability. In this work, we propose UpSafe$^\circ$C, a unified framework for enhancing LLM safety through safety-aware upcycling. Our approach first identifies safety-critical layers and upcycles them into a sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) structure, where the router acts as a soft guardrail that selectively activates original MLPs and added safety experts. We further introduce a two-stage SFT strategy to strengthen safety discrimination while preserving general capabilities. To enable flexible control at inference time, we introduce a safety temperature mechanism, allowing dynamic adjustment of the trade-off between safety and utility. Experiments across multiple benchmarks, base model, and model scales demonstrate that UpSafe$^\circ$C achieves robust safety improvements against harmful and jailbreak inputs, while maintaining competitive performance on general tasks. Moreover, analysis shows that safety temperature provides fine-grained inference-time control that achieves controllable trade-off between utility and safety. Our results highlight a new direction for LLM safety: moving from static alignment toward dynamic, modular, and inference-aware control. Code: https://github.com/HansSunY/UpSafe.

On the Design of Hyper-Connections: Simplification, Stability, and Scalability

Xiangdong Zhang, Xiaohan Qin, Sunan Zou, Tuo Dai, Bizhao Shi, Zhuo Xia, Yebin Yang, Yizhou Chen 等 11 位作者

Hyper-Connections (HC) architectures are increasingly adopted in frontier language models, yet their components remain insufficiently understood and introduce non-negligible training overhead. In this work, we systematically study the HC architecture to understand its components and identify simpler, more efficient designs. We find that learned read/write gating without mixing and unconstrained mixing with fixed gates form two effective interaction groups: either alone achieves performance comparable to mHC. We also identify repeated access to the expanded residual state as a major source of training overhead, even without mixing. These findings lead to SimpleHC, which simplifies the architecture by removing residual mixing and simplifies execution through shared memory access, using the resulting additive structure and shared gate inputs. Layer-specific gates share a group-entry state, enabling batched reads and deferred writes; scalar corrections exactly preserve preceding sublayer output contributions. Our analyses support both the retained residual structure and the design of shared memory access. SimpleHC incurs only 2.4% extra end-to-end training time over a vanilla residual baseline at the largest tested scale. It maintains performance comparable to mHC when scaling from 15B to 30B MoE models, exhibits smoother gradient dynamics during standard training, and remains stable under stress. We hope SimpleHC will encourage a broader pursuit of simplicity in foundation model design, making performance gains more accessible and practical at scale.

Chronos: Sequential Identity-Preserving Video Generation by Temporal Anchoring

Mengqi Huang, Wenchuan Wang, Zhendong Mao, Yijing Tu, Zhike Liu, Luoni Wang, Ning Tong, Xiaoxiao Sheng 等 11 位作者

Identity-preserving video generation aims to synthesize high-quality and visually realistic videos from textual and visual conditions while faithfully maintaining the subject's identity across diverse motions. Prior methods have extensively introduced reference-guided control signals and identity-aware conditioning to improve facial alignment from reference images. However, improving static identity alignment alone creates a fundamental tension between identity fidelity and temporal controllability, which frequently causes identity drift or motion suppression under large pose variations and multi-segment sequential actions. To address this, we propose Chronos, a framework that unifies single-segment facial identity preservation and multi-segment sequential action generation under a common temporal formulation. Specifically, Chronos integrates Semantic Prompt Anchoring to adaptively refine the user prompt, Visual Frame Anchoring to transform conditions into visually grounded keyframe anchors for visual guidance, and Metric-Guided Candidate Routing to select the highest-quality videos from heterogeneous generators via multi-dimensional evaluation. Extensive evaluations demonstrate the superiority of our approach, which achieved first place in both Track 1 and Track 2 of the ACM MM 2026 Identity-Preserving Video Generation Challenge, demonstrating its effectiveness across both facial identity preservation and sequential action generation settings.

RGB Photo Enhancement with Deep Learning on Smartphone GPUs: Mobile AI 2026 Challenge Report

Andrey Ignatov, Georgy Perevozchikov, Radu Timofte, Dong Zhang, Zhao Ran, Yang Zhang, Xiaochen Li, Shichang Ju 等 24 位作者

On-device RGB photo enhancement is a popular task that is needed for quality improvement of photos captured with mobile devices as well as for retouching of images acquired through other sources. This creates a need for efficient deep learning models for this problem that are not only performant but can also be deployed on constrained mobile hardware. In this Mobile AI challenge, we address this problem and propose participants to design fast solutions that can perform comprehensive enhancement of RGB photos while running on popular smartphone GPUs from Qualcomm and Arm. For this, the participants were provided with a large-scale DPED dataset consisting of RGB image pairs captured with an old iPhone 3GS smartphone and a professional Canon 70D DSLR camera. The runtime of all models was evaluated on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500 chipsets with the Adreno and Mali GPUs, respectively. Top solutions proposed in this challenge are able to enhance Full HD resolution RGB images on both platforms under 300 milliseconds. A comprehensive description of the models developed in the challenge is provided in this paper.

TTSonic: A Unified Framework for Composable and Controllable Speech Generation

Zhedong Zhang, Kaiwen Zhou, Junyan Wu, Shengqiang Li, Xuran Chi, Xingui Zeng, Rui Yan, Xu Chen

Modern text-to-speech (TTS) systems can synthesize natural and expressive speech, yet a practical speech foundation model must go beyond naturalness to offer stable quality, precise controllability, and a broad set of composable capabilities within a unified framework. We present TTSonic, a unified speech generation model that supports zero-shot TTS, voice cloning, prosody cloning, instruction following, voice conversion, and cloning from noisy reference speech. Rather than relying on separate task-specific models, TTSonic accommodates diverse conditioning signals, including text, natural language instructions, reference speech, and text-described timbre, within the same model framework. Specifically, we develop a semantic--acoustic disentangled speech tokenizer through ASR-supervised semantic learning and reconstruction-guided generative refinement. Serving as the representational foundation of our unified framework, the tokenizer enables the Text-to-Semantic autoregressive model to focus on semantic and prosodic planning, while the acoustic flow-matching model specializes in high-quality speech rendering under diverse acoustic and timbre conditions. Building on this framework, we incorporate CoT-guided instruction-following planning and Text2Timbre voice design to support controllable speech generation. Experiments across zero-shot synthesis, multilingual and cross-lingual TTS, instruction following, voice design, voice conversion, and noisy-reference cloning demonstrate the competitive performance and broad applicability of TTSonic.

ForceLDM: A Force-aware Latent Dynamics Model for Contact-Rich Manipulation

Peiyuan Tang, Yao Li, Xiaodong Zhang, Wuyang Zhang, Qin Xia, Yanyong Zhang, Zijiang Yang

Contact-rich manipulation requires fine-grained control and complex physical interactions with the environment, posing significant challenges for robot policy learning. Vision-only policies struggle with such tasks, as contact states and interaction forces are difficult to infer from visual observations alone. Existing methods mitigate this issue by incorporating force or tactile sensing. However, they often treat these signals as auxiliary observations without fully exploiting their role in modeling future interaction dynamics. To address this, we propose ForceLDM, a force-aware latent dynamics model that learns future contact and motion dynamics to guide action generation. Rather than directly predicting future observations, which can entangle task-relevant dynamics with irrelevant sensory details, ForceLDM learns a compact representation of future dynamics through knowledge distillation. Specifically, a teacher network with privileged future force/torque and optical flow signals extracts future dynamic features, which are then distilled into a student network trained only on current observations. This enables the student model to reason about upcoming contacts and physical dynamics without relying on future sensory inputs at deployment. To improve robustness and generalization, we further introduce a curriculum-based progressive noise injection strategy to mitigate over-reliance on future features. Experiments on five real-world contact-rich manipulation tasks demonstrate that ForceLDM outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, generalizes effectively to novel objects, and remains robust to environmental perturbations. DepthGraft: Structural Regularization through Hierarchical Cross-Layer KV Reconstruction

Xiaohan Qin, Xiangdong Zhang, Yu Wang, Huaijin Wu, Zhuo Xia, Yebin Yang, Junchi Yan

Scaling depth is a key route to stronger large language models, but Pre-LN architectures often suffer from depth-wise information dilution, limiting the effective use of deep layers. While cross-layer connectivity has proven effective at mitigating this problem, existing designs usually introduce additional computation or memory access. We revisit cross-layer KV sharing as an efficient form of such connectivity. Beyond cache compression, each KV reuse edge creates a direct gradient path from deep layers to source KV projections, turning KV sharing into an implicit structural regularizer for KV representation geometry. We provide a systematic analysis of this mechanism, showing that proper sharing topologies sharpen key retrieval directions while enriching the value content subspace, whereas existing adjacent or global-anchor designs do not fully exploit this effect. Motivated by this, we propose DepthGraft, a hierarchical KV-sharing architecture that reconstructs deep-layer KV from stride-aligned shallow-middle source pairs. DepthGraft distributes non-local gradient flow across source layers, while preserving prefill early completion and reducing KV cache by roughly one third. Experiments on dense and MoE models from 0.5B to 16B parameters show consistent downstream improvements under both GQA and MLA. Notably, on the 16B MoE model, DepthGraft achieves a 7.0% absolute improvement on MMLU-Pro, along with gains of 6.6% on CMMLU and 6.4% on C3. These results validate the potential of DepthGraft as a scalable design for large-scale pretraining. The project page is available at https://github.com/jianke0604/DepthGraft.

Bridging Low-Level Image Fusion and High-Level Semantic Understanding

Guangyuan Dong, Lingdong Shen, Xudong Zhang, Haodong Jing, Haoyu Wang, Zihao Li, Zonghao Ying, Ziyu Song 等 11 位作者

Remote sensing image fusion and semantic interpretation are usually optimized separately, so reconstruction quality need not preserve downstream retrieval utility. We propose LANCE, which uses structured language as an explicit, indexable semantic state. A frozen vision-language model maps the input to a closed-vocabulary text record; a language-conditioned generator fuses the imagery; and a dense verifier with a differentiable continuous summarizer re-describes the output. Text-text consistency and anti-collapse contrastive text-mask losses with negative queries close the loop without dense annotations or VLM fine-tuning. A variational EM formulation yields a per-step contraction result under regularity assumptions, distinguishing semantic faithfulness from verifier overfitting. Across seven test sets on GF2, QuickBird, WorldView-III, and WorldView-II, LANCE improves reduced-scale reference metrics by up to 11.7% (median 2.1%) over the strongest learning baseline. Independent evaluation using a held-out VLM and a supervised aerial detector yields gains of +6.4 mAP and +0.072 open-vocabulary F1 over the closest competitor. Text perturbations, cross-verifier transfer, and pseudo-RGB ablations examine the mechanisms underlying these gains. The framework connects image fusion to verifiable semantic representations for multimodal retrieval and knowledge management.

RecGroupMemory: Feedback-Aware Cohort Memory for E-Commerce Recommendation

Wendong Zhang, Weipeng Huang, Zhixin Ma, Bin Zhang, Dimin Wang

Cohort memory can support LLM-based recommendation planning through group-level user profiles and advice. As outcome feedback becomes available, this guidance may need to be updated while preserving the underlying observations. We present RecGroupMemory, a workflow that provides this memory to an orchestration LLM and separates memory construction from feedback-based revision. It uses feedback from the previous day to revise decision guidance, while validation checks keep selected source values unchanged. Online comparisons were conducted among Taobao users with low purchasing power selected by the business team. Relative to a no-memory baseline, memory without feedback and memory with feedback showed increases of 1.58% and 1.78%, respectively, in the number of guided transaction users.

Label-Free Localization and Test-Time Suppression of CLIP's Typographic Circuits

Bohan Liu, Wenqian Ye, Guangzhi Xiong, Zhenghao He, Sanchit Sinha, Aidong Zhang

CLIP-based Vision-Language Models have become cornerstones of modern multimodal systems. The cross-modal contrastive objective equips the CLIP vision encoder to both see objects and read text. These two abilities induce an entanglement between the encoding of lexical and semantic shapes, creating a distinctive vulnerability to typographic attacks, in which rendered text overrides an image's semantic content with its literal meaning. The black-box nature of these encoders has prevented a mechanistic interpretation of such entanglement. We introduce a head-decomposed Sparse Dictionary Learning (SDL) architecture that, by design, decomposes individual attention heads into interpretable, head-specific latents. Based on this inductive disentanglement, we re-purpose Clarity Score and propose normalized Text Attribution Score, which are both label-free, to identify attention heads that carry typographic information. As a causal validation of successful circuit separation, we perform a mechanistic intervention that reweighs attention away from the patch tokens in the identified lexical heads at test-time. Experiments show that the intervention effectively recovers object classification under typographic attack and, across five CLIP variants and four typographic benchmarks, achieves up to 46.9% improvement while incurring up to 1% accuracy loss in general image perception, outperforming prior supervised and training-free methods. Expanding on the mechanistic intervention, we propose a test-time adaptive attention head routing to further reduce the impact on performance at matched robustness, pushing beyond the Pareto frontier of current robustness-perception tradeoff.

CipherFlow: Compiling AI Programs for Efficient Cryptographically Secure Inference

Hedong Zhang, Mengxin Zheng, Qian Lou

Cryptographically secure inference faces two practical challenges: making secure programming accessible to AI developers and data scientists, and achieving efficient execution across deployment environments. Developers must compose cryptographic primitives correctly, while performance depends on hardware, networks, and evolving ciphertext states. We present CipherFlow, a compiler framework that takes a high-level AI computation graph, available cryptographic primitives, and a target hardware and network configuration to generate an executable, latency-optimized secure inference program. CipherFlow automates cryptographic execution decisions through three techniques: MicroBench profiles deployment-specific primitive costs; state-expanded planning jointly optimizes homomorphic encryption (HE) and secure multi-party computation (MPC) placement, conversions, and ciphertext maintenance under cryptographic-state constraints; and BlockFold summarizes branched regions to scale planning to Transformer graphs. Evaluation using measured HE/MPC backend costs across CPU/GPU and network settings shows up to 16.5$\times$ speedup on BERT-base and over 22$\times$ on ViT compared with static hybrid placement baselines. CipherFlow separates model programming from cryptographic execution decisions, enabling developers to express AI computations while the compiler constructs efficient secure programs.

FrameForge: Harnessing Priors of Video Foundation Models for Unified Image Generation

Yijing Lin, Zhendong Mao, Mengqi Huang, Yuxin Wang, Yongdong Zhang

Unified conditional image generation requires a single model to preserve different aspects of a visual input while producing a target image that follows textual guidance. Pretrained video models provide a promising foundation by encoding visual transformations across time, yet existing approaches typically assign the condition and target to fixed temporal positions. We observe that condition-target relationships vary substantially across generation tasks, while video models naturally encode visual transformations at different temporal scales. This motivates us to model conditional generation through input-adaptive virtual temporal relations. We propose FrameForge, which captures two complementary aspects of such relations. Mixture of Temporal Experts (MoTE) models how far the target lies from the condition by dynamically selecting temporal RoPE experts with different virtual intervals. Chain of Temporal Reasoning (CoTR) models how the condition is transformed into the target through a latent intermediate state, with a reasoning-bottleneck attention mask encouraging information propagation through this pathway. Experiments on DreamBench, COCO2017, and GEdit-Bench show that FrameForge achieves superior performance in subject-driven generation, canny-to-image generation, and image editing among the compared methods.

Structure, Not Sequence: Tracking and Validating Folding Mechanisms in ESMFold's Trunk with Sparse Autoencoders

Bohan Liu, Xiaohan Fan, Wenqian Ye, Aidong Zhang

Structure predictors like ESMFold fold proteins using neural network computation and have transformed structural biology. However, the driving mechanism from amino-acid (AA) sequence to 3D structure is insufficiently understood, and biological meaning remains locked in the dense network. Sparse autoencoders (SAEs) have shown promising results in obtaining interpretable concept features over an overcomplete basis of intermediate protein sequence-model representations. Yet folding models, which predict physical shape from AA sequence semantics, have no such account. We hypothesize that the features carrying the folding computation evolve in the 3D structural regression process. In this paper, we interpret the folding trunk in three steps. First, a pilot analysis on the representation distribution across modules and recycles locates distinct spatial computation in the trunk. Second, the dictionaries expose a division of labor: the single representation carries inherited semantics, and the pair representation computes the pairwise geometry. Third, we interpret the dictionary at scale with a reasoning language model, trace how the concepts compose across blocks by gradient-based attribution, and follow the interpreted code to the model's folding output, verifying where the computation aligns with, or departs from, known biochemistry. Together, the sparse dictionaries we train capture the relational geometry the trunk computes beyond the sequence model, and their concept activations forecast the model's own fold quality, turning the black-box folding trunk into a sparse, interpretable, and scientifically verifiable circuit.

RePO-VLA: Recovery-Driven Policy Optimization for Vision-Language-Action Models

Weijia Liufu, Xiaoyu Guo, Ruiyi Chen, Jingzhi Liu, Kaidong Zhang, Xiwen Liang, Jianqi Lin, Dawei Sun 等 19 位作者

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models remain brittle in long-horizon, contact-rich manipulation because success-only imitation provides little supervision for execution drift, while failed rollouts are often discarded. We introduce RePO-VLA, a recovery-driven policy optimization framework that assigns distinct roles to success, recovery, and failure trajectories. RePO-VLA first applies Recovery-Aware Initialization (RAI), slicing each corrective suffix into a new episode so corrective actions depend on the current adverse state rather than the preceding failure. It then learns a Progress-Aware Semantic Value Function (PAS-VF), aligning spatiotemporal trajectory features with instructions and successful references. The resulting labels salvage useful failure prefixes via reliability decay, while low-value labels mark drift and terminal breakdowns, teaching differences among nominal, failed, and corrective actions. The data engine turns adverse states into planner-generated or human-collected corrective rollouts, teaching recovery to the success manifold. Value-Conditioned Refinement (VCR) trains the policy to prefer high-progress actions. At deployment, a fixed high-value token biases actions toward the learned success manifold without online failure detectors or heuristic retries. We introduce the Failure-Recovery Benchmark (FRBench), with standardized error injection and recovery-focused evaluation. Across simulated and real-world bimanual tasks, RePO-VLA improves robustness, raising adversarial success from 20% to 75% on average and up to 80% in scaled real-world trials. Code and video results are available at https://1018weijia.github.io/RePO-VLA-Web/.

ReCoQA: A Benchmark for Tool-Augmented and Multi-Step Reasoning in Real Estate Question and Answering

Yindong Zhang, Wenmian Yang Beijing Normal University, Yiquan Zhang Elmleaf Ltd., Weijia Jia Beijing Normal University and Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University

Developing agents capable of navigating fragmented, multi-source information remains challenging, primarily due to the scarcity of benchmarks reflecting hybrid workflows combining database querying with external APIs. To bridge this gap, we introduce ReCoQA, a large-scale benchmark of 29,270 real-estate instances featuring machine-verifiable supervision for intermediate steps, including structured intent labels, SQL queries, and API calls. Complementarily, we propose HIRE-Agent, a hierarchical framework instantiating an understand–plan–execute architecture as a strong baseline. By orchestrating a Front-end parser, a planning Supervisor, and execution Specialists, HIRE-Agent effectively integrates heterogeneous evidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that HIRE-Agent constitutes a strong baseline and substantiates the necessity of hierarchical collaboration for complex, real-world reasoning tasks.

AgentAsk: Multi-Agent Systems Need to Ask

Bohan Lin, Kuo Yang, Zelin Tan University of Science and Technology of China, Yingchuan Lai, Chen Zhang, Guibin Zhang National University of Singapore, Xinlei Yu, Miao Yu 等 11 位作者

Multi-agent systems (MAS) built on large language models promise improved problem-solving through collaboration, yet they often fail to consistently outperform strong single-agent baselines due to error propagation at inter-agent message handoffs. In this work, we conduct a systematic empirical analysis of such failures and introduce an edge-level error taxonomy that identifies four dominant error types: Data Gap, Signal Corruption, Referential Drift, and Capability Gap, as primary sources of failure in multi-agent interactions. Building on this taxonomy, we propose AgentAsk, a lightweight clarification module designed to intervene at the edge level in MAS to prevent cascading errors. The module operates by strategically applying minimal clarifications at critical points within the system, improving the accuracy and efficiency of the overall task. AgentAsk is trained to balance the trade-offs between clarification cost, latency, and accuracy, while it is also architecture-agnostic and can be easily integrated into existing systems. Evaluated across five benchmarks, AgentAsk consistently improves accuracy by up to 4.69%, while keeping latency and extra costs below 10% compared to baseline MAS, showcasing its high efficiency and minimal overhead. The code is available at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/AgentAsk-3432.

Decentralized Arena: Towards Democratic and Scalable Automatic Evaluation of Language Models

Yanbin Yin, Kun Zhou University of California, San Diego, Zhen Wang University of California, San Diego, Xiangdong Zhang New York University, Yifei Shao, Shibo Hao University of California, San Diego, Yi Gu University of California, San Diego, Jieyuan Liu 等 14 位作者

The recent explosion of large language models (LLMs), each with its own general or specialized strengths, makes scalable, reliable benchmarking more urgent than ever. Standard practices nowadays face fundamental trade-offs: closed-ended question-based benchmarks (MMLU) struggle with saturation as newer models emerge, while crowd-sourced leaderboards (Chatbot Arena) rely on costly and slow human judges. Recently, automated methods (LLM-as-a-judge) shed light on the scalability, but risk bias by relying on one or a few “authority” models. To tackle these issues, we propose Decentralized Arena (), a fully automated framework leveraging collective intelligence from all LLMs to evaluate each other. It mitigates single-model judge bias by democratic, pairwise evaluation, and remains efficient at scale through two key components: (1) a coarse-to-fine ranking algorithm for fast incremental insertion of new models with sub-quadratic complexity, and (2) an automatic question selection strategy for the construction of new evaluation dimensions. Across extensive experiments across 66 LLMs, attains up to 97% correlation with human judgements, while significantly reducing the cost.

CoMeT: Collaborative Memory Transformer for Efficient Long Context Modeling

Runsong Zhao, Shilei Liu, Jiwei Tang, Langming Liu Alibaba Group, Haibin Chen, Weidong Zhang Alibaba Group, Yujin Yuan, Tong Xiao Northeastern University 等 11 位作者

The quadratic complexity and indefinitely growing key-value (KV) cache of standard Transformers pose a major barrier to long-context processing. To overcome this, we introduce the Collaborative Memory Transformer (CoMeT), a novel architecture that enables LLMs to handle arbitrarily long sequences with constant memory usage and linear time complexity. Designed as an efficient, plug-in module, CoMeT can be integrated into pre-trained models with only minimal fine-tuning. It operates on sequential data chunks, using a dual-memory system to manage context: a temporary memory on a FIFO queue for recent events, and a global memory with a gated update rule for long-range dependencies. These memories then act as a dynamic soft prompt for the next chunk. The effectiveness of our approach is remarkable: a model equipped with CoMeT and fine-tuned on 32k contexts can accurately retrieve a passkey from any position within a 1M token sequence. On the SCROLLS benchmark, CoMeT surpasses other efficient methods and achieves performance comparable to a full-attention baseline on summarization tasks. Its practical effectiveness is further validated on real-world agent and user behavior QA tasks, supported by a novel layer-level pipeline parallel training strategy that enables fine-tuning on extremely long contexts. The code is available at: https://github.com/LivingFutureLab/Comet

The quality of pre-training data critically impacts the capabilities of large language models. Existing pipelines rely on expert-crafted heuristic rules, which primarily operate at the sample level and are based on coarse statistical indicators, thus lacking content-aware, fine-grained noise detection. While recent generative approaches, e.g., ProX-C, enable token-level refinement, their reliance on synthesizing Python code incurs prohibitive computational cost at scale and can introduce hallucinations into the refined data. To overcome these limitations, we propose Selecting over Tokens (SelecT), a novel framework that reframes data refinement as a highly efficient token classification task. SelecT classifies each token as either informative or noisy and subsequently removes the latter. This design achieves fine-grained data optimization while avoiding the inefficiency of generation, ensuring scalability. When evaluated on diverse downstream benchmarks, the model trained on SelecT-refined corpora, on average, outperforms the one trained on raw data by over 2% and exceeds the best heuristic baselines by more than 1% while preserving 17% more tokens than the latter. Furthermore, SelecT achieves higher average performance than the generative ProX-C across all experimental settings, and is 2.5x faster at inference, even with twice the parameters. Our results establish SelecT as an effective, efficient, and scalable solution for pre-training data optimization.

FS-Researcher: Test-Time Scaling for Long-Horizon Research Tasks with File-System-Based Agents

Deep research is emerging as a representative long-horizon task for large language model (LLM) agents. However, long trajectories in deep research often exceed model context limits, compressing token budgets for both evidence collection and report writing, and preventing effective test-time scaling. We introduce FS-Researcher, a file-system-based, dual-agent framework that scales deep research beyond the context window via a persistent workspace. Specifically, a Context Builder agent acts as a librarian which browses the internet, writes structured notes, and archives raw sources into a hierarchical knowledge base that can grow far beyond context length. A Report Writer agent then composes the final report section by section, treating the knowledge base as the source of facts. In this framework, the file system serves as a durable external memory and a shared coordination medium across agents and sessions, enabling iterative refinement beyond the context window. Experiments on two open-ended benchmarks (DeepResearch Bench and DeepConsult) show that FS-Researcher achieves state-of-the-art report quality across different backbone models. Further analyses demonstrate a positive correlation between final report quality and the computation allocated to the Context Builder, validating effective test-time scaling under the file-system paradigm. The code and data are open-sourced at https://github.com/Ignoramus0817/FS-Researcher.

From Word to World: Can Large Language Models be Implicit Text-based World Models?

Agentic learning increasingly hinges on interaction, yet real-world experience is expensive, limited, and often irreversible at inference time. World models promise to mitigate these limitations, but it remains unclear whether large language models can actually serve as reliable world models, and deliver concrete benefits to downstream agents. We investigate these questions in text-based environments, a controlled testbed that reframes language modeling as next-state prediction under interaction. We propose a three-level framework to evaluate LLM-based world models: (i) fidelity and consistency, (ii) scalability and robustness, and (iii) agent utility. Across five representative environments, we show that sufficiently trained world models capture coherent environment dynamics, scale predictably with data and model capacity, and unlock tangible agent improvements—for example, action verification boosts GPT-4o by 5.5% on WebShop, and warm-started RL achieves a 15% gain on SciWorld. Crucially, these benefits hinge on behavioral coverage and environment complexity, sharply characterizing when world modeling meaningfully advances agent learning.

VFA: Empowering Multilingual MLLMs via Vision-Free Adaptation

Yixia Li, Yaqing Shi, Zhiwen Ruan, Dongdong Zhang Research, Microsoft, Lingjie Jiang Peking University, Shaohan Huang, Yun Chen Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Guanhua Chen Southern University of Science and Technology 等 9 位作者

Multimodal large language models have advanced rapidly, yet most remain English-centric, as scaling multilingual multimodal instruction tuning is limited by the scarcity and high cost of high-quality non-English image–text supervision. Although multilingual text data is abundant, naive textual fine-tuning can disrupt vision–language alignment and induce catastrophic forgetting. We propose Vision-Free Adaptation (VFA), a framework that decouples multilingual language enhancement from visual alignment by composing complementary task vectors over a shared LLM backbone. Specifically, we fine-tune a base LLM on multilingual text data to derive a multilingual task vector, which is then merged with the vision-aligned task vector of an MLLM. Experiments on five MLLMs across six multilingual multimodal benchmarks show consistent improvements while preserving both general multimodal and text-only capabilities. Moreover, VFA attains competitive performance with a fully multimodally trained model using less than 2% of the text data, demonstrating its efficiency and effectiveness.

XY-Tokenizer: Mitigating the Semantic-Acoustic Conflict in Low-Bitrate Speech Codecs

Yitian Gong, Luozhijie Jin, Kuangwei Chen, Dong Zhang, Ruifan Deng Fudan University, Xiaogui Yang, Xin Zhang, Zhaoye Fei 等 11 位作者

Speech codecs provide an important interface between continuous speech signals and large language models. An ideal codec for speech language models should not only preserve acoustic information but also capture rich semantic information. However, existing codecs struggle to balance these objectives at low bitrates. We propose \textbf{XY-Tokenizer}, a low-bitrate speech codec (around 1 kbps) trained with a structured multi-stage, multi-task strategy that aligns discrete speech representations with text while preserving fine-grained acoustic details for reconstruction. This design explicitly mitigates the semantic–acoustic conflict observed in prior low-bitrate codecs. Experiments show that XY-Tokenizer achieves stronger semantic alignment than representative semantic-distillation codecs such as SpeechTokenizer and Mimi, while maintaining high-quality speech reconstruction across both clean and out-of-distribution conditions. Furthermore, XY-Tokenizer consistently outperforms existing low-bitrate codecs in LLM-based speech understanding and generation tasks, demonstrating its effectiveness as a general-purpose speech representation for speech–language modeling.

Correct When Paired, Wrong When Split: Decoupling and Editing Modality-Specific Neurons in MLLMs

Tingchao Fu, Wenkai Wang, Fanxiao Li, Huadong Zhang, Jinhong Zhang, Dayang Li, Yunyun Dong, Renyang Liu National University of Singapore 等 9 位作者

Although Knowledge Editing provides an efficient mechanism for updating the knowledge of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), we find that current paradigms still suffer from an important yet remain underexplored issue : editing decoupling failure, where entity-related knowledge can be updated when the model is triggered by multimodal inputs (text–image query pairs), however, it often reverts to outdated pre-edit facts when the paired inputs are split into unimodal ones. Our in-depth empirical analysis reveals that the entity knowledge in MLLMs is not stored as a unified representation, but is instead distributed across disentangled modality-specific pathways. As a result, updates biased toward multimodal queries fail to propagate effectively to unimodal circuits. To bridge this gap, we propose DECODE, which explicitly disentangles and localizes modality-specific neuron groups for targeted knowledge. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DECODE consistently achieves effective knowledge updates under different modality triggers, thereby mitigating editing decoupling failures.

GASim: A Graph-Accelerated Hybrid Framework for Social Simulation

Xuan Zhou, Yanhui Sun, Hantao Yao, Allen He, Yongdong Zhang University of Science and Technology of China, Wu Liu

Large-scale social simulators are essential for studying complex social patterns. Prior work explores hybrid methods to scale up simulations, combining large language models (LLM)-based agents with numerical agent-based models (ABM). However, this incurs high latency due to expensive memory retrieval and sequential ABM execution. To address this challenge, we propose GASim, a graph-accelerated hybrid multi-agent framework for large-scale social simulations. For core agents driven by LLM, GASim introduces Graph-Optimized Memory (GOM) to replace intensive LLM-based retrieval pipelines with lightweight propagation over a sparse memory graph. For the majority of ordinary agents, GASim employs Graph Message Passing (GMP), substituting sequential ABM execution with parallel updates by fine-grained feature aggregation and Graph Attention Network. We further introduce Entropy-Driven Grouping (EDG) that coordinates this hybrid partitioning, leveraging information entropy to dynamically identify emergent core agents situated in information-diverse neighborhoods. Extensive experiments show that GASim not only delivers a substantial 9.94× end-to-end speedup over the traditional hybrid framework but also consumes less than 20% of baseline tokens, significantly reducing costs while preserving strong alignment with real-world public opinion trends.

Generative Gamer: Learning Equilibrium Strategy by LLM-driven Dynamic Deduction

Yadong Zhang, Xinshu Shen, Yupei Ren, Shangqing Zhao East China Normal University, Man Lan

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable general capabilities, yet they falter in domains requiring deep strategic reasoning. A primary obstacle is the need to navigate a game tree that grows exponentially with search depth, a task for which their generative nature is ill-suited. To address this, we introduce Generative Gamer (GenGamer), a framework that trains LLMs to reason like an expert player. Instead of attempting an exhaustive search, GenGamer learns to generate a compact, pruned reasoning trajectory termed as a Dynamic Deduction. This is achieved by integrating three key strategies: action pruning based on policy confidence, state pruning via value estimation, and branch pruning inspired by alpha-beta principles. Furthermore, to train the model effectively, we propose the Deduction Tree Reward (DTR), a process-oriented mechanism that provides step-by-step feedback on the quality of the reasoning process, rather than relying solely on the final game outcome. Experiments on complex games such as Tic-Tac-Toe and Leduc Poker demonstrate that GenGamer significantly enhances the strategic capabilities of LLMs, enabling them to achieve performance that surpasses current state-of-the-art language models.

AI4VIS: Survey on Artificial Intelligence Approaches for Data Visualization

Aoyu Wu, Yun Wang, Xinhuan Shu, Dominik Moritz, Weiwei Cui, Haidong Zhang, Dongmei Zhang, Huamin Qu

Visualizations themselves have become a data format. Akin to other data formats such as text and images, visualizations are increasingly created, stored, shared, and (re-)used with artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. In this survey, we probe the underlying vision of formalizing visualizations as an emerging data format and review the recent advance in applying AI techniques to visualization data (AI4VIS). We define visualization data as the digital representations of visualizations in computers and focus on data visualization (e.g., charts and infographics). We build our survey upon a corpus spanning ten different fields in computer science with an eye toward identifying important common interests. Our resulting taxonomy is organized around WHAT is visualization data and its representation, WHY and HOW to apply AI to visualization data. We highlight a set of common tasks that researchers apply to the visualization data and present a detailed discussion of AI approaches developed to accomplish those tasks. Drawing upon our literature review, we discuss several important research questions surrounding the management and exploitation of visualization data, as well as the role of AI in support of those processes. We make the list of surveyed papers and related material available online at ai4vis.github.io.
