Concertina: Embodying Manipulation and Cognition in One Diffusion Vision-Language Model

Chengcheng Wang, Wei He, Wenhao Li, Hongguang Li, Kai Han, Jianyuan Guo, Chang Xu

原文摘要

Most vision-language-action (VLA) policies decouple manipulation from cognition by bolting an external action mechanism onto a vision-language model (VLM)--either quantizing actions into discrete tokens whose errors bear no stable correspondence to physical displacements, or delegating continuous trajectory generation to a separate action expert whose gradients compete with or are blocked from updating the VLM backbone. We argue that manipulation and cognition should instead be embodied in the same model, shifting from a decoupled VLA to an Embodied Vision-Language Model (eVLM). We introduce Concertina, an eVLM that places continuous trajectory representation, blockwise generation, and physical-coordinate supervision directly on the computation and parameter path of a shared diffusion VLM backbone. Each control timestep is encoded as one continuous latent action token in the backbone hidden space, and the shared Transformer reconstructs temporally ordered action blocks via the same corrupt-and-reconstruct operator used for multimodal pretraining. Active action projections account for only 0.21% of parameters in the 4.46B model with zero separate action-generator layers, compared with 16.5%-35.1% dedicated action-expert capacity in representative continuous VLAs. Using our proposed Action Interface Audit, we confirm that cross-time trajectory coupling emerges in the middle and late layers of the shared backbone rather than at the action interfaces. On standard benchmarks, Concertina achieves 98.15% average success on regular LIBERO, 85.9% on the 10,030-task LIBERO-Plus benchmark, and 4.142 average completed chain length on CALVIN ABC-D. AI agents are playing an increasingly important role in physics research. However, existing physics benchmarks only evaluate fixed questions, isolated sub-tasks, or paper reproduction with given solutions, and rarely check research quality alongside correctness. We introduce FrontierPhysics, an end-to-end benchmark with 56 tasks made by 42 physicists based on their own research, covering nine domains across theoretical, computational, and experimental physics. Each task requires agents to review the literature, develop a research plan, conduct research and experiments, and produce structured outputs and scientific manuscripts. Combining deterministic verifiers with expert-authored rubrics, FrontierPhysics evaluates whether agents' research is correct and publishable. Across 22 models in 26 configurations, no configuration passes more than 46 of its 168 rollouts. Manual review of agent trajectories shows that frontier agents' main weaknesses are insufficiently rigorous reasoning and limited expert intuition, rather than gaps in physics knowledge or execution errors.

原文摘要

Innovative intersection designs can improve roadway safety and operational efficiency, but their uncommon geometries may create challenges for driver comprehension during early deployment. Evaluating these designs through full-scale field implementation can also be costly. This paper presents InterSim, a Unity game engine-based human-in-the-loop (HITL) driving simulator that constructs digital twins of site-specific innovative intersections in a virtual environment. InterSim links the real world and the simulation world through two closed cycles: a digital twin cycle that builds each intersection twin from agency design and traffic data and returns evidence from simulation to the agency, and an HITL cycle in which human drivers or automated driving algorithms operate the ego vehicle under identical scenario conditions. The research capabilities of InterSim are demonstrated through two case studies: a surrogate safety study compares post-encroachment time distributions between a Reduced Conflict Intersection and a standard intersection under different traffic volumes; an eco-driving study compares human drivers with a rule-based agent using vehicle-to-infrastructure information and reveals differences in emission and driving behavior. These studies demonstrate that InterSim provides a reusable digital twin platform for investigating innovative intersection designs from diverse perspectives. SPOD: Recovering Suppressed Temporal Evidence in Video-LLMs via Single-Pass Orthogonal Decomposition

Yangguang Lin, Quan Fang, Xiaoyan Liu, Zefan Xu

原文摘要

Video Large Language Models (Video-LLMs) have achieved strong performance on many video understanding tasks, yet remain vulnerable to temporal hallucination in time-sensitive reasoning scenarios such as scene transition understanding and event ordering. Existing solutions either require costly retraining or introduce inefficient multi-pass inference and external supervision at test time. In this work, we show that temporal evidence is already encoded in Video-LLM hidden representations but is not fully exploited during standard inference. Motivated by this observation, we propose Single-Pass Orthogonal Decomposition (SPOD), a training-free framework that recovers suppressed temporal evidence through analytical hidden-state manipulation in a single forward pass. SPOD consists of two components: Frame Distinctiveness Analysis (FDA), which identifies salient frames from middle-layer hidden-state geometry, and Temporal Delta Subspace (TDS), which constructs orthogonal temporal and prior subspaces from weighted inter-frame hidden-state differences. By decomposing final hidden states into temporal, prior, and residual components and rescaling them independently, SPOD enhances dynamic information, suppresses static appearance bias, and preserves complementary information. Experiments on VidHalluc, EventHallusion, and VideoMMMU show that SPOD consistently outperforms strong inference-time baselines across temporal reasoning tasks and model architectures while retaining near-vanilla inference efficiency. These results suggest that improving temporal reasoning in Video-LLMs may depend not only on additional supervision, but also on recovering temporal evidence already present in their internal representations. Our code is available at https://github.com/VioAgnes/SPOD.

原文摘要

Long-horizon dexterous manipulation remains a fundamental challenge for robot learning, requiring the composition of multiple skills, precise bimanual coordination, generalizable visual understanding, and robust skill transitions. Yet existing manipulation benchmarks largely emphasize isolated skills or support only a limited range of end-effectors, making these capabilities difficult to evaluate systematically. We introduce DexArena, a benchmark designed to evaluate learning and generalization in long-horizon bimanual dexterous manipulation. DexArena features 10 long-horizon tasks and 30 stage-level tasks spanning diverse household and industrial scenarios. Each long-horizon task is composed of explicitly defined stages with physically grounded success conditions, enabling reliable evaluation of both intermediate progress and end-to-end task completion. A unified benchmark interface and verified human-teleoperated demonstrations enable testing different policy learning algorithms, with standardized simulation configurations, scene randomization, trajectory replay, and task-level evaluation. Through extensive baseline experiments, we identify substantial challenges in precise manipulation, generalization to scene variation, and skill composition. DexArena establishes a challenging and reproducible benchmark for developing robot learning methods that move toward generalizable long-horizon dexterous behavior.

Architecture-Aware Mixed Precision for Replica-Exchange Training of Geometry-Aware Neural Operators with Uncertainty Quantification

Ujin Jeon, Michael Penwarden, Wenqian Chen, Guang Lin

原文摘要

Geometry-aware neural operators face substantial computational and memory demands when learning across complex physical domains. We introduce Architecture-Aware Mixed Precision (AA-MP), a replica-exchange training strategy that allocates numerical precision according to replica roles and architecture-specific operations. By retaining FP32 for refinement while selectively employing BF16 for exploration, AA-MP preserves predictive accuracy while improving training efficiency. Across fluid dynamics and three-dimensional structural mechanics benchmarks, AA-MP achieves comparable accuracy to full-precision training over an ensemble of runs, while reducing hot-replica peak GPU memory by 46.9% and training time by up to 25.8%. It also outperforms naive Automatic Mixed Precision (AMP) in memory efficiency and computational cost, with increasing memory advantages at larger model and geometry scales. Ablation studies show that retaining FP32 in the cold-replica is important for predictive accuracy, while additional FP32 operations in the exploratory replica provide limited benefits relative to their computational cost. Finally, conformal prediction for uncertainty calibration shows that AA-MP achieves near-nominal coverage with narrower prediction intervals than the alternatives. These results advance the scalability of geometry-aware scientific machine learning by reducing computational costs without compromising predictive accuracy or uncertainty quantification.

AskStream: When and What to Ask Proactively under Uncertainty in Streaming Video Understanding

Lu Wang, Zhuoran Jin, Longxiang Wang, Junhong Chen, Yupu Hao, Yao Xu, Daojian Zeng, Yubo Chen 等 11 位作者

原文摘要

Recent advances in multimodal large language models have increased interest in interaction paradigms for video understanding. The evolution from offline to streaming and proactive interaction has gradually shifted models from passive responders toward more proactive agents that can decide when to answer. However, existing proactive paradigms typically assume that the information required to answer a query is complete, leaving models to only wait or answer. In the real world, however, information is often incomplete due to uncertainty from either the video or the user. In proactive paradigms, such uncertainty can cause the model to wait forever or generate highly hallucinatory responses. We therefore argue that proactive interaction should be redefined with a third action: ask, allowing models to actively ask for missing information. To study when and what models should ask before answering, we introduce AskStream, the first multi-turn benchmark spanning video and user uncertainty for streaming video understanding, with four task categories and eight subtasks. It contains 438 videos with 2,714 manually annotated frame-level time windows across three types: wait, ask, and answer. Across both multiple-choice and open-ended settings, even the strongest model attains only 52.18% on our proposed Ask-F1 metric, highlighting substantial limitations in proactive information seeking under uncertainty.

UBTree: Parallel Tree Drafting via Unigram and Bigram Models for Speculative Decoding

Chumeng Liang, Linxuan Wang, Xinyu Peng, Huabin Liu, XiaoXu Guo, Yuxin Chen, Ge Liu, Guang Lin 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Speculative decoding accelerates language model inference by verifying multiple draft tokens in a single target-model pass. Recent parallel drafters have achieved breakthrough performance in frontier production models, but their effectiveness deteriorates as the entropy of target distributions increases due to insufficient draft diversity. To overcome this bottleneck without sacrificing parallelism, we introduce UBTree, a parallel drafter that couples a Unigram proposer with a Bigram selector to construct drafting Trees. The unigram proposer is trained with the standard cross-entropy objective to generate candidate tokens independently for each position, while a lightweight bigram selector predicts transition scores between adjacent candidate pairs. Unlike the proposer, the selector is trained with a renormalized KL objective on high-temperature data. This tree-native training broadens the supervision beyond the greedy path, encouraging plausible alternative branches that improve the chance of accepting additional tokens during tree verification. Across seven standardized benchmarks with Qwen3-4B and Qwen3-8B, UBTree achieves an average speedup of $5.84$--$6.94\times$ over autoregressive decoding and outperforms DARTree in all 28 comparisons. Production-scale evaluation further demonstrates UBTree's advantage over frontier baselines such as DSpark.

RoSeViT: Role-Separated Vision Transformers for ARC Visual Reasoning

Zhiguang Liu, Yi Shang

原文摘要

ARC tasks can be formulated as visual transformation problems, where a model must infer a high-level transformation rule from a small set of demonstrations and apply it consistently across a grid. While dense Vision Transformers (ViTs) perform well in this setting, they entangle local visual state and global transformation logic within a shared token representation, which can hinder consistent reasoning. In this paper, we introduce RoSeViT, a role-separated Vision Transformer that explicitly decouples high-level instruction inference from visual workspace computation. RoSeViT uses controller tokens to aggregate transformation-level information and workspace tokens to represent the visual grid, with a structured attention pass in which nonlocal workspace interactions are routed through the controller. This design is motivated by our formal analysis showing that enforcing a shared instruction representation can reduce the effective complexity of visual transformation modeling. RoSeViT outperforms dense ViT baselines under the standard VARC training and evaluation protocol for ARC. In a controlled backbone replacement setting, it improves ARC-1 accuracy from 54.5 to 56.6, and with recurrent refinement reaches 58.8. When integrated into the full system, RoSeViT-Ensemble improves performance from 60.4 to 62.6 on ARC-1. These results demonstrate that explicitly separating instruction and workspace representations leads to more effective visual reasoning on ARC tasks. 原文摘要

We introduce Nemotron 3.5 Super and Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, open and efficient Mixture-of-Experts Hybrid Mamba-Transformer models designed for reasoning, long-context understanding, and agentic workloads. Super is a 120B-parameter, 12B-active multimodal model, while Lightning is a smaller 30B-parameter, 3B-active text model; both designed for efficient deployment. Both models combine large-scale distillation, long-context training, and native speculative decoding, while Super further incorporates Indic continued pretraining and agentic software-engineering mid-training. We develop a comprehensive post-training pipeline spanning supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning (RLVR and RLHF), complemented in Super by specialized teacher training and multi- teacher on-policy distillation (MOPD). This transforms Super from a text-only base model into a multimodal agent capable of reasoning over text, images, video, and interactive tool environments. We further explore test-time scaling through parallel agent execution and self-verification. Across training and deployment, we jointly optimize capability and efficiency. Indic continued pretraining improves Indian-language benchmarks by up to 9.82 percentage points, while agentic mid-training strengthens software-engineering capabilities and robustness across agent harnesses. The post-trained Super model achieves 51.78% on SWE-bench Pro, surpassing Nemotron 3 Ultra despite using approximately 4.6x fewer active parameters. Post-training MTP boosting improves speculative- decoding acceptance length by up to 21.8% under probabilistic draft sampling, while NVFP4 quantization achieves 99.62% median accuracy recovery relative to BF16. Inference optimizations enable up to 4,856 output tokens/s/GPU on GB200 while sustaining at least 50 tokens/s/user.

Benchmarking Task Takeover Across Agent Handoffs

Wenyuan Li, Guang Li, Dongyuan Li, Keisuke Maeda, Takahiro Ogawa, Miki Haseyama

原文摘要

As agents collaborate on longer tasks, responsibility may pass between models before the work is complete. The receiving model must build on prior decisions, observations, and actions while addressing the remaining requirements. Evaluating this transition requires connecting the information preserved at handoff to how the receiver continues the work, a relationship that task-success and memory-retention scores alone do not capture. We introduce the Handoff State Continuity Benchmark (HSC-Bench), comprising 1,039 tasks that evaluate two complementary aspects of task takeover: recovering relevant repository evidence and continuing from established conversational, tool, and file-work state. Comparisons across six receiving models show that structured handoff state improves repository evidence recovery for every model and continuation performance for most models. The strongest receivers differ between the two tracks, showing that evidence-recovery rankings alone do not characterize performance when continuing from inherited state. By combining these comparisons with checks of subsequent responses and actions, HSC-Bench evaluates both access to prior evidence and adherence to established commitments and completed work. This provides a basis for selecting receiving models and assessing handoff representations according to the work that must be carried forward.

Foreground-Aware Dataset Distillation via Dual-Path Patch Selection

Mingzhuo Li, Guang Li, Longzhen Li, Ren Togo, Keisuke Maeda, Takahiro Ogawa, Miki Haseyama

原文摘要

In this paper, we propose a foreground-aware dataset distillation method that performs content-adaptive dual-path patch selection. With the rising computational cost of training large-scale deep models, dataset distillation has emerged as a promising approach for constructing compact synthetic datasets that retain knowledge from large original datasets. Although optimization-based methods can achieve strong performance, they often incur considerable computational and memory costs and may produce synthetic images that generalize poorly across architectures. Recent non-optimization-based methods alleviate these limitations by constructing distilled images from real-image patches. However, their inflexible patch-construction strategies may either retain redundant background content or discard important foreground structures. To address this issue, we propose a foreground-aware dataset distillation framework with content-adaptive dual-path patch selection. We first use Grounded SAM2 to estimate the foreground occupancy of each image and derive category-specific routing thresholds from the corresponding class-wise distributions. Each image is routed to one of two complementary paths: the candidate-crop selection path for images with relatively sparse foregrounds, or the direct transformation path for images with relatively dominant foregrounds. This dual-path mechanism balances foreground concentration and preservation, reducing redundant background content while retaining the structural integrity of foreground objects at the dataset level. Experiments on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, ImageNette, and ImageWoof with two network architectures and three distillation budgets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the baseline method RDED in nearly all evaluated settings.

Selective Tie Learning: Mitigating Spurious Correlations in Preference Optimization

Christian Moya, Purav Matlia, Elliott Thornley, Guang Lin

原文摘要

Preference optimization can learn spurious correlations, and augmenting the preference data with ties (equally preferred responses) can reduce spurious reliance. However, ties differ in their corrective effect, making their selection for augmentation important. For log-linear policies, we derive each tie's influence on spurious reliance and show that taking the largest predicted reductions is first-order optimal among subsets of equal size. Computing these influences requires knowledge of the spurious features and the curvature of the training objective, which is often unavailable or expensive to estimate. To this end, we explore using the magnitude of a tie's implicit reward margin and characterize the conditions under which it is a useful proxy for predicted influence. To test the theory and its qualitative transfer to neural models, we estimate influence with a counterfactual proxy for spurious reliance and use a generalized Gauss--Newton approximation to curvature for language models. Across log-linear policies, neural models, and large language models, our selection rules consistently achieve comparable reductions in spurious reliance with fewer ties than uniform selection.

OVM-Occ: Open-Vocabulary Monocular Occupancy Prediction via Geometry-Aware Vision-Language Distillation

Shuyang Yu, Haibo Qin, Shaohan Hu, Wei Shan, Xiaoqing Guan, You Wang, Guang Li

原文摘要

Monocular occupancy prediction in indoor scenes aims to recover a scene's 3D geometry and semantics from a single RGB image. Existing methods are restricted to a closed set of predefined categories, limiting their ability to generalize to unseen categories. This limitation is particularly critical in indoor scenes, where objects exhibit highly diverse and fine-grained semantic categories. We study open-vocabulary monocular occupancy prediction for indoor scenes and present OVM-Occ, a Gaussian-based occupancy framework with an instance-aware vision-language teacher. Specifically, we adopt Language-Embedded Gaussians as the intermediate scene representation, propose a geometry-aware deformable attention module to refine Gaussian semantic features, and construct instance-level vision-language embeddings to provide reliable semantic supervision. We further introduce geometry-aware decoupled semantic distillation to mitigate the interference between geometry learning and semantic learning. To evaluate open-vocabulary occupancy prediction performance, we introduce OpenOcc-ScanNet and OpenOcc-Replica, two extended benchmarks with more diverse and fine-grained semantic categories. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in open-vocabulary monocular occupancy prediction for indoor scenes, outperforming the previous state-of-the-art approach by 12.2 mIoU and 0.6 IoU on the Occ-ScanNet dataset, with consistent gains under new open-vocabulary evaluation protocols.

OneDemo: Unified Policy Learning and Data Generation from a Single Demonstration

Ying Qian, Jianshu Hu, Han Fang, Shuguang Li, Yutong Ban

原文摘要

Learning robot policies from demonstrations is often limited by the cost of collecting diverse, high-quality expert data. While an appealing alternative is to expand a single successful demonstration into a diverse set of successful trajectories, existing augmentation methods typically rely on manually designed transformation rules or complex trajectory planning, requiring substantial task-specific engineering and human effort. We introduce OneDemo, a reinforcement learning framework that learns to edit a single successful demonstration for new task configurations. We formulate demonstration editing as a structured reinforcement learning problem, in which an editor learns, from sparse task-success rewards, both when to transition between object-centric trajectory segments and how to geometrically adapt each segment. The learned editor serves both as a task policy and as a reusable demonstration generator. Across 15 Meta-World tasks, OneDemo reaches a 92.7% success rate within 53.7k environment interactions on average. Across 9 DexMimicGen tasks, it generates successful demonstrations with a 98.4% average success rate, and BC-RNN policies trained on the generated data achieve 99.6% average success at matched dataset scale. These results show that learning to edit a single successful demonstration provides a structured and effective basis for both policy learning and scalable demonstration generation.

Designing Versatile Samples for Learned Trajectory Scoring

Yaguang Li, Jiaru Zhang, Chuheng Wei, Can Cui, Ziran Wang

原文摘要

Many current end-to-end driving policies emit a pool of candidate trajectories and select one, which makes selection a separable component: a scorer can be retrained while the planner, its backbone, and its trajectory generator all stay frozen. However, many strong planners concentrate their proposals around safe mode, providing limited supervision near decision boundaries. In this work, we design a training dataset that provides more informative supervision for the scorer. In particular, we construct two generators that perturb the logged human trajectory along the two axes a vehicle can be displaced: laterally toward the drivable boundary and longitudinally toward a leading vehicle. The designed dataset produces more informative positive and negative samples than the base planner's proposal pool. We attach a transformer-based scorer to two frozen generative planners, DiffusionDrive and MeanFuser, and train it on the NAVSIM navtrain dataset. The results of the experiments show that we achieve 90.1 EPDMS on DiffusionDrive and 90.4 EPDMS on MeanFuser when using ResNet-34, with 0.4 and 0.3 EPDMS respectively, from the designed training dataset. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/PurdueDigitalTwin/Versatile-Scoring.

MinerU2.5: A Decoupled Vision-Language Model for Efficient High-Resolution Document Parsing

Junbo Niu, Zheng Liu, Zhuangcheng Gu, Bin Wang, Linke Ouyang, Zhiyuan Zhao, Tao Chu, Tianyao He 等 59 位作者

原文摘要

We introduce MinerU2.5, a 1.2B-parameter document parsing vision-language model that achieves state-of-the-art recognition accuracy while maintaining exceptional computational efficiency. Our approach employs a coarse-to-fine, two-stage parsing strategy that decouples global layout analysis from local content recognition. In the first stage, the model performs efficient layout analysis on downsampled images to identify structural elements, circumventing the computational overhead of processing high-resolution inputs. In the second stage, guided by the global layout, it performs targeted content recognition on native-resolution crops extracted from the original image, preserving fine-grained details in dense text, complex formulas, and tables. To support this strategy, we developed a comprehensive data engine that generates diverse, large-scale training corpora for both pretraining and fine-tuning. Ultimately, MinerU2.5 demonstrates strong document parsing ability, achieving state-of-the-art performance on multiple benchmarks, surpassing both general-purpose and domain-specific models across various recognition tasks, while maintaining significantly lower computational overhead.

LANG: Reinforcement Learning for Multilingual Reasoning with Language-Adaptive Hint Guidance

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning has proven effective for enhancing multi-step reasoning in Large Language Models (LLMs), yet its benefits have not fully translated to multilingual contexts. Existing methods struggle with a fundamental trade-off: prioritizing input-language consistency severely hampers reasoning quality, while prioritizing reasoning often leads to unintended language drift toward English. We address this challenge with LANG, a novel framework that leverages language-conditioned hints to guide exploration in non-English reasoning tasks. Our method incorporates two key mechanisms to prevent dependency on these hints: a progressive decay schedule that gradually withdraws scaffolding, and a language-adaptive switch that tailors learning horizons to specific language difficulties. Empirical results on challenging multilingual mathematical benchmarks reveal that LANG substantially enhances reasoning performance without compromising language consistency. Moreover, we show that our framework generalizes beyond mathematics, fostering more consistent language alignment across model layers.

Efficient Learned Data Compression via Dual-Stream Feature Decoupling

Huidong Ma, Xinyan Shi, Sun Hui, Xiaofei Yue, Xiaoguang Liu, Gang Wang Nankai University, Wentong Cai Nanyang Technological University

原文摘要

While Learned Data Compression (LDC) has achieved superior compression ratios, balancing precise probability modeling with system efficiency remains challenging. Crucially, uniform single-stream architectures struggle to simultaneously capture micro-syntactic and macro-semantic features, necessitating deep serial stacking that exacerbates latency. Compounding this, heterogeneous systems are constrained by device speed mismatches, where throughput is capped by Amdahl’s Law due to serial processing. To this end, we propose a Dual-Stream Multi-Scale Decoupler that disentangles local and global contexts to replace deep serial processing with shallow parallel streams, and incorporate a Hierarchical Gated Refiner for adaptive feature refinement and precise probability modeling. Furthermore, we design a Concurrent Stream-Parallel Pipeline, which overcomes systemic bottlenecks to achieve full-pipeline parallelism. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both compression ratio and throughput, while maintaining the lowest latency and memory usage. FinCall-Surprise: A Large Scale Multi-modal Benchmark for Earning Surprise Prediction

原文摘要

Predicting corporate earnings surprises is a profitable yet challenging task, as accurate forecasts can inform significant investment decisions. However, progress in this domain has been constrained by a reliance on expensive, proprietary, and text-only data, limiting the development of advanced models. To address this gap, we introduce FinCall-Surprise (Financial Conference Call for Earning Surprise Prediction), the first large-scale, open-source, and multi-modal dataset for earnings surprise prediction. Comprising 2,688 unique corporate conference calls from 2019 to 2021, our dataset features word-to-word conference call textual transcripts, full audio recordings, and corresponding presentation slides. We establish a comprehensive benchmark by evaluating 26 state-of-the-art unimodal and multi-modal LLMs. Our findings reveal that (1) while many models achieve high accuracy, this performance is often an illusion caused by significant class imbalance in the real-world data. (2) Some specialized financial models demonstrate unexpected weaknesses in instruction-following and language generation. (3) Although incorporating audio and visual modalities provides some performance gains, current models still struggle to leverage these signals effectively. These results highlight critical limitations in the financial reasoning capabilities of existing LLMs and establish a challenging new baseline for future research.

原文摘要

Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have made significant progress in chart understanding. However, financial charts, characterized by complex temporal structures and domain-specific terminology, remain notably underexplored. We introduce FinChart-Bench, the first benchmark specifically focused on real-world financial charts. FinChart-Bench comprises 1,200 financial chart images collected from 2015 to 2024, each annotated with True/False (TF), Multiple Choice (MC), and Question Answering (QA) questions, totaling 7,016 questions. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of 26 state-of-the-art LVLMs on FinChart-Bench. Our evaluation reveals critical insights: (1) the performance gap between open-source and closed-source models is narrowing, (2) performance degradation occurs in upgraded models within families, (3) many models struggle with instruction following, (4) both advanced models show significant limitations in spatial reasoning abilities, and (5) current LVLMs are not reliable enough to serve as automated evaluators. These findings highlight important limitations in current LVLM capabilities for financial chart understanding.

Beyond End-to-End: Dynamic Chain Optimization for Private LLM Adaptation on the Edge

原文摘要

Federated fine-tuning enables privacy-preserving LLM adaptation but faces a critical bottleneck: the disparity between LLMs’ high memory demands and edge devices’ limited capacity. To break the memory barrier, we propose Chain Federated Fine-tuning (ChainFed), an innovative paradigm that forgoes end-to-end updates in favor of a sequential, layer-by-layer manner. It first trains the initial adapter to convergence, freezes its weights, and then proceeds to the next. This iterative train-and-freeze process forms an optimization chain, gradually enhancing the model’s task-specific proficiency. ChainFed further integrates three core techniques: 1) Dynamic Layer Co-Tuning to bridge semantic gaps between sequentially tuned layers and facilitate information flow; 2) Globally Perceptive Optimization to endow each adapter with foresight beyond its local objective; 3) Function-Oriented Adaptive Tuning to automatically identify the optimal fine-tuning starting point. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of ChainFed over existing methods, boosting average accuracy by up to 46.46%.

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit strong general reasoning, yet the community lacks controllable, scalable, and verifiable tools to analyze and improve these abilities. We present SATQuest, a verifier that generates diverse SAT-based reasoning tasks directly from Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF) instances and checks answers objectively with PySAT. SATQuest factorizes evaluation along three orthogonal dimensions—instance, problem type, and question format—enabling fine-grained, multi-dimensional analysis and reinforcement fine-tuning. Randomized CNF generation mitigates memorization and supports reproducible experiments. Using SATQuest, we benchmark a range of open- and closed-weight LLMs and uncover persistent gaps in logical reasoning, particularly on higher-complexity tasks and in transfer beyond familiar mathematical notation to machine or narrative formats. We further show that reinforcement fine-tuning with SATQuest rewards substantially boosts targeted performance and generalizes to larger instances, while cross-format robustness remains challenging. Collectively, SATQuest provides verifier-backed infrastructure for controlled, scalable, and reproducible empirical research on LLM logical reasoning and its training.

原文摘要

Recent advances in foundational models have yielded reasoning systems capable of achieving a gold-medal standard at the International Mathematical Olympiad. The transition from competition-level problem-solving to professional research, however, requires navigating vast literature and constructing long-horizon proofs. In this work, we introduce Aletheia, a math research agent that iteratively generates, verifies, and revises solutions end-to-end in natural language. Specifically, Aletheia is powered by an advanced version of Gemini Deep Think for challenging reasoning problems, a novel inference-time scaling law that extends beyond Olympiad-level problems, and intensive tool use to navigate the complexities of mathematical research. We demonstrate the capability of Aletheia from Olympiad problems to PhD-level exercises and most notably, through several distinct milestones in AI-assisted mathematics research: (a) a research paper (Feng26) generated by AI without any human intervention in calculating certain structure constants in arithmetic geometry called eigenweights; (b) a research paper (LeeSeo26) demonstrating human-AI collaboration in proving bounds on systems of interacting particles called independent sets; and (c) an extensive semi-autonomous evaluation (Feng et al., 2026a) of 700 open problems on Bloom's Erdos Conjectures database, including autonomous solutions to four open questions. In order to help the public better understand the developments pertaining to AI and mathematics, we suggest quantifying standard levels of autonomy and novelty of AI-assisted results, as well as propose a novel concept of human-AI interaction cards for transparency. We conclude with reflections on human-AI collaboration in mathematics and share all prompts as well as model outputs at https://github.com/google-deepmind/superhuman/tree/main/aletheia.

原文摘要

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.
