GhostTac: Manipulating Tactile Sensors without Physical Contact

Kun Wang, Xuancun Lu, Ruochen Zhou, Kai Wang, Tongjun Ye, Yihao Shao, Chen Yan, Xiaoyu Ji 等 9 位作者

Tactile sensors are integral components of modern robotic systems, enabling robots to perceive and interact with the physical environment through tactile feedback. Despite their importance, the physical-layer security of tactile sensors has received little attention in prior work. In this paper, we present GhostTac, to the best of our knowledge, the first contactless attack that manipulates tactile sensing via electromagnetic interference (EMI). We identify that EMI exploits the nonlinear rectification and limited bandwidth amplification effects, allowing carefully crafted EMI signals to be converted into a persistent DC offset that bypasses on-board filtering and induces stable measurement deviations. Building on this mechanism, GhostTac enables fine-grained and controllable manipulation of sensor outputs by reshaping the spatial distribution and manipulating the magnitude at the targeted location. Such interference can induce unintended and harmful robot behaviors, such as causing a domestic robot to exert excessive force, resulting in physical damage or human injury. We evaluate GhostTac on 10 sensor modules and 2 dexterous hands, covering 15 tactile sensors of different types, and demonstrate consistent attack effectiveness across all tested devices. We further present three case studies on tactile grasping, slip detection, and material classification to illustrate practical impacts in real robotic tasks. We envision that our findings shed light on a new physical attack vector against tactile sensing in robotic systems.

A Sharp Dynamic Haussler Lemma

Shihao Shao, Dacheng Tao

Haussler's covering lemma (JCTA 1995) gives the sharp $(C/δ)^d$ metric-entropy bound for binary VC classes under normalized $\ell_1$ distance. We prove a sharp global dynamic analogue for bounded real-valued classes in normalized $\ell_p$, for every $1\le p<\infty$. Writing $d=\operatorname{sfat}_{\varepsilon/32}(\mathcal F)$, we obtain a global dynamic cover of size at most $(C/\varepsilon^p)^d$ for every horizon and $0<\varepsilon<1/2$. Here a single family of deterministic causal experts, fixed independently of the instance sequence, covers every target on every sequence. For $0<\varepsilon<1/4$, a matching worst-case lower bound $(c/\varepsilon)^{pd}$ holds already for binary classes on one fixed sequence, even with real-valued experts. The constants are universal, independent of $p$. For $p=2$, this resolves the horizon-independent sequential $\ell_2$ covering problem of Rakhlin, Sridharan, and Tewari (PTRF 2015) in a stronger global form. For $p=1$, it gives the sharp $(C/δ)^{\operatorname{Ldim}(\mathcal H)}$ global dynamic covering bound for binary classes, resolving questions of Alon, Ben-Eliezer, Dagan, Moran, Naor, and Yogev (STOC 2021) and Malliaris and Moran (Trans. AMS 2024). Our proof combines rank-decreasing correction schedules and accurate sampled prefixes with exact continuations after target identification. Shared-parent routing distributes these continuations among eligible prefixes, eliminating the logarithmic overhead.

PlanContext: Benchmarking In-Context Driving Decision-Making

Ruikai Li, Naiyu Gao, Hao Shan, Yizhe Fan, Yanhao Wu, Han Jiang, Yilong Ren, Zhenning Li 等 14 位作者

Real-world driving requires context-aware decision-making. Existing end-to-end driving benchmarks primarily assess trajectory quality through safety, compliance, comfort, and driving progress, leaving context-dependent decision-making insufficiently characterized. To fill this gap, we present PlanContext, a benchmark for evaluating in-context driving decision-making. PlanContext constructs paired evaluations by varying high-level driving intentions while keeping the observed scene fixed, enabling a natural and controllable assessment of context-dependent decision-making. We further define six representative driving contexts and jointly evaluate contextual decision correctness, road compliance, and dynamic safety with class-balanced metrics. Experiments on 9,561 scene-condition instances from NAVSIM and 23 public end-to-end driving models show that high conventional driving-quality scores do not consistently correspond to strong route-level in-context driving decision-making. Further analysis shows that model behavior varies with decision timing, road structure, and traffic interaction depending on the decision required by the current context. Our results highlight in-context driving decision-making as an important complementary dimension for evaluating end-to-end driving systems.

Urban functional knowledge transfer through global representations amid uneven data

Junyuan Liu, Xinglei Wang, Guangsheng Dong, Hao Sha, Zichao Zeng, Zhicheng Deng, Jiazhuang Feng, Xiang Wang 等 9 位作者

Urban functional observations are unevenly distributed worldwide, limiting analysis of how places are organised and used. AlphaEarth Foundations (AEF) provides a globally consistent physical representation. Whether this representation can support transfer of functional knowledge to locations with sparse or absent functional observations, and what governs transfer, remain unclear. We introduce POI-aligned Urban Embedding (PURE), which learns physical-functional relationships between POI-derived semantics and AEF. Across five urban analysis tasks covering 142 countries and territories, PURE increases mean $R^2$ from 0.792 to 0.830, with gains across widely different levels of POI availability. When target-city POIs are excluded, country-level alignment retains 87.9% of its performance gain. Cross-country experiments show that transfer is selective rather than universal, with larger gains between physically similar and geographically closer contexts, particularly among pairs within the same continent. Our findings reveal spatially structured urban functional knowledge transfer, offering a route to reduce reliance on dense local observations.

Towards Reliable, Scalable, and Value-Aligned Generative Recommendation for Large-Scale Advertising

Yatong Xiao, Yibo Sheng, Lixiang Wang, Mingjie Sun, Yunhao Sha, Pengfei Zhang, Shengyu Wang, Peng Wang 等 10 位作者

Generative recommendation (GR) reformulates item retrieval as autoregressive generation of discrete semantic identifiers (SIDs), offering a unified paradigm for personalized recommendation. GR4AD, as an industrial generative recommendation framework, has greatly improved advertising revenue while enabling efficient real-time serving in Kuaishou. However, continued deployment has exposed three limitations: deterministic SID assignment remains sensitive to semantic boundaries; conventional backbone scaling provides diminishing revenue gains under strict serving constraints; and sequence-level value optimization provides limited credit assignment to intermediate SID decisions, causing likelihood-based beam search to prematurely prune potentially high-value candidates. We present GR4AD-X, which addresses these limitations through reliable SID construction, serving-efficient capacity scaling, and unified value alignment. Specifically, GR4AD-X improves SID reliability through Multi-Path assignment. It expands model capacity along multiple complementary dimensions rather than relying solely on wider or deeper backbones, achieving a better effectiveness-efficiency trade-off under strict serving constraints. Finally, Unified Value-Guided Generation and Discrimination (UniVGD) aligns generation with commercial value through prefix-level reward optimization, value-guided beam pruning, and discriminative reranking within a unified model. Large-scale online A/B tests on the Kuaishou advertising platform demonstrate that GR4AD-X achieves a cumulative revenue improvement of 3.07% over the deployed GR4AD baseline while satisfying strict latency and throughput constraints.

VisGeo-PipeTrack: A Visual Geometric Servo Control Framework with MPC-RCAPID Control for UAV-Based Dynamic Pipes Tracking

Zhenyang Gao, Jianlin Chen, Yang Yu, Honghao Shan, Jiale Gao, Ziyan Jia

While unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly deployed for pipeline inspection, prevailing research predominantly assumes static pipes. In real-world industrial environments, pipes often exhibit dynamic movements, such as vibrations. This imposes more stringent requirements on UAVs' adaptive control and computational efficiency than in static scenarios. Therefore, this paper proposes a servo control framework named VisGeo-PipeTrack, which utilizes geometric constraints to enable UAV tracking of dynamic pipes. To achieve efficient UAV positioning, YOLOv5 is employed to detect labels on the pipe. The positions are derived from visual geometric constraints based on these detected labels to enable precise localization. To address tracking control challenges, a model predictive control based real-time corrected adaptive PID (MPC-RCAPID) controller is proposed. This controller employs the Recursive Least Squares method for real-time model estimation and integrates rolling horizon optimization to dynamically adjust PID parameters. Experiments conducted on both the AirSim simulator and the Tello UAV platform validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Simulation comparisons with standard PID, fractional-order PID, adaptive PID, and fuzzy PID demonstrate that MPC-RCAPID achieves the shortest settling time (3.26 s) and the lowest average tracking error (3.52%). In physical experiments on the Tello platform, compared with standard PID control, MPC-RCAPID reduces the average tracking error by 55.52%, 26.72%, and 26.52% across the three test dimensions. These results demonstrate that VisGeo-PipeTrack facilitates efficient autonomous tracking in dynamic pipe environments.

UnityBench-Mini3D: Evaluating LLM Agents for 3D Game Development in Unity

Yijun Zhou, Minghao Shao, Ke Zhang, Renkai Yuan, Hongbo Yuan, Bin Hu, Bozhao Qian, Hongxia Shen 等 23 位作者

Game development stresses coding agents in ways general software engineering does not: correctness depends on how engine APIs, serialized scene state, and runtime behavior interact, not on source code alone. Existing benchmarks mainly target platforms such as Godot and heavily rely on LLM judges or coarse task-level outcomes. We present UnityBench-Mini3D, a benchmark of 77 project-level Unity tasks organized around seven expert-defined skill categories rather than tutorials or genres, with three difficulty tiers. Each task pairs a complete Unity project with natural-language requirements and is evaluated using 1,178 held-out, human-authored milestone tests covering scene structure, component configuration, and runtime behavior. This in-engine evaluation provides deterministic partial credit, localizes failures, and distinguishes partial implementations from complete solutions without relying on subjective judges. Across 21 models and 9 coding harnesses, the average pass rate reaches 80.9% on easy tasks but falls to 35.2% on hard tasks, with just 57.7% overall. UnityBench-Mini3D provides a reproducible, diagnostic testbed distinguishing systems across difficulty levels.

MUR: Momentum Uncertainty guided Reasoning for Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved impressive performance on reasoning-intensive tasks, yet optimizing their reasoning efficiency remains an open challenge. While Test-Time Scaling (TTS) improves reasoning quality, it often leads to overthinking—wasting tokens on redundant computations. This work investigates how to efficiently and adaptively guide LLM TTS without additional training. Inspired by the concept of momentum in physics, we propose Momentum Uncertainty-guided Reasoning (MUR), which dynamically allocates thinking budgets to critical reasoning steps by tracking and aggregating step-wise uncertainty over time. To support flexible inference-time control, we introduce -control, a simple mechanism that tunes the reasoning budget via a single hyperparameter. We provide in-depth theoretical proof to support the superiority of MUR in terms of stability and biases. MUR is comprehensively evaluated against various TTS methods across four challenging benchmarks (MATH-500, AIME24, AIME25, and GPQA-diamond) using different sizes of recent Qwen3 models (1.7B, 4B, and 8B). Results demonstrate that MUR reduces computation by over 45% on average while improving accuracy by 0.33–3.46%.

PAR: Training-Free Positional Perturbation and Attention Recycling for Faithful OCR

Yao Yao, Manwen Liao University of Hong Kong, Weitian Zhang Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zuchao Li Wuhan University, Hai Zhao Shanghai Jiao Tong University

In high-precision scenarios, vision language models suffer from Linguistic Priors Hallucination. When processing familiar text, models tend to over-rely on internal parametric knowledge, effectively “reciting” the content rather than “reading” the image. In this paper, we first systematically investigate this phenomenon by constructing the GlitchText Probing Dataset. We discover that the model’s reliance on visual grounding diminishes significantly as the generation length increases. To mitigate this, we propose PAR (Positional Perturbation and Attention Recycling), a training-free, inference-time intervention framework. PAR consists of two parts: (1) Positional Perturbation (PP) injects structured phase noise into the rotary positional embeddings; (2) Foveal Attention Recycling (FAR) detects over-confident linguistic priors and dynamically redistributes attention mass back to important visual regions. Extensive experiments across state-of-the-art models, demonstrate that PAR significantly reduces hallucination rates (reducing CER by 12%), particularly in long-context scenarios, while maintaining robust generalization on standard benchmarks.

SEARL: Joint Optimization of Policy and Tool Graph Memory for Self-Evolving Agents

Xinshun Feng, Xinhao Song, Lijun Li Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Gongshen Liu Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jing Shao Shanghai AI Laboratory

Recent advances in Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) have demonstrated significant potential in single-turn reasoning tasks. With the paradigm shift toward self-evolving agentic learning, models are increasingly expected to learn from trajectories by synthesizing tools or accumulating explicit experiences. However, prevailing methods typically rely on large-scale LLMs or multi-agent frameworks, which hinder their deployment in resource-constrained environments. The inherent sparsity of outcome-based rewards also poses a substantial challenge, as agents typically receive feedback only upon task completion. To address these limitations, we introduce a Tool-Memory based self-evolving agentic framework SEARL. Unlike approaches that directly utilize interaction experiences, our method constructs a structured experience memory that integrates planning with execution. This provides a novel form of state abstraction that facilitates the aggregation of actions within functionally analogous contexts, such as tool reuse. Consequently, agents not only extract explicit knowledge from historical data but also leverage inter-trajectory correlations to densify reward signals. We evaluate our framework on knowledge reasoning and complex search tasks, demonstrating its effectiveness in achieving more practical and efficient agentic learning.

Enhancing Agentic Textual Graph Retrieval with Synthetic Stepwise Supervision

Ge Chang, Jinbo Su Renmin University of China, Jiacheng Liu, Pengfei Yang, Yuhao Shang, Huiwen Zheng, Hongli Ma GDS, Yan Liang 等 10 位作者

Integrating textual graphs into Large Language Models (LLMs) is promising for complex graph-based QA. However, a key bottleneck is retrieving informative yet compact subgraphs that fit the LLM context. Existing retrievers often struggle, relying either on shallow embedding similarity or costly interactive policies that require excessive supervision. To address these challenges, we introduce Graph-S^3, an agentic textual graph reasoning framework featuring an LLM-based retriever trained with synthetic stepwise supervision. Rather than relying on final answer rewards—which often yield sparse and unstable signals—we optimize the retriever by evaluating each step against offline-extracted golden subgraphs. Our approach distills golden subgraphs via a specialized data synthesis pipeline to formulate dense rewards, facilitating a two-stage training scheme that effectively learns the interactive graph exploration policy.Based on extensive experiments on three common datasets in comparison with seven strong baselines, our approach achieves an average improvement of 15.6% in accuracy and 17.2% in F_1 score. The advantage is even higher in more complicated multi-hop reasoning tasks.

Evolutionary Guided Decoding: Iterative Value Refinement for LLMs

Zhenhua Liu Soochow University, Lijun Li Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Ruizhe Chen, Yuxian Jiang, Tong Zhu Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Zhaochen Su, Wenliang Chen Soochow University, China, Jing Shao Shanghai AI Laboratory

While guided decoding, especially value-guided methods, has emerged as a cost-effective alternative for controlling language model outputs without re-training models, its effectiveness is limited by the accuracy of the value function. We identify that this inaccuracy stems from a core distributional gap: existing methods train static value functions on trajectories sampled exclusively from the base policy, which inherently confines their training to a narrow and suboptimal view of the potential output space. We propose Iterative Value Refinement, a novel framework designed to bridge this gap. It employs Value Exploration to provide a more comprehensive and robust training signal, complemented by Iterative Self-Refinement, which uses the improved value function from one iteration to guide the generation of higher-quality data for the next. Extensive experiments on text summarization, multi-turn dialogue, and instruction following demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework in aligning language models. Our approach not only achieves alignment but also significantly reduces computational costs by leveraging principled value function optimization for efficient and effective control.

v-HUB: A Benchmark for Video Humor Understanding from Vision and Sound

Zhengpeng Shi, Yanpeng Zhao, Jianqun Zhou, Yuxuan Wang Alibaba Group, Qinrong Cui, Wei Bi Independent Researcher, Song-Chun Zhu, Bo Zhao Shanghai Jiaotong University 等 9 位作者

AI models capable of comprehending humor hold real-world promise—for example, enhancing engagement in human-machine interactions. To gauge and diagnose the capacity of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) for humor understanding, we introduce v-HUB, a novel video humor understanding benchmark. v-HUB comprises a curated collection of non-verbal short videos, reflecting real-world scenarios where humor can be appreciated purely through visual cues. We pair each video clip with rich annotations to support a variety of evaluation tasks and analyses, including a novel study of environmental sound that can enhance humor. To broaden its applicability, we construct an open-ended QA task, making v-HUB readily integrable into existing video understanding task suites. We evaluate a diverse set of MLLMs, from specialized Video-LLMs to versatile OmniLLMs that can natively process audio, covering both open-source and proprietary domains. The experimental results expose the difficulties MLLMs face in comprehending humor from visual cues alone. Our findings also demonstrate that incorporating audio helps with video humor understanding, highlighting the promise of integrating richer modalities for complex video understanding tasks.

ReasonAny: Incorporating Reasoning Capability to Any Model via Simple and Effective Model Merging

Junyao Yang, Chen Qian, Wen Shen Tongji University, Yong Liu Renmin University of China, Jing Shao Shanghai AI Laboratory, Dongrui Liu Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) with long chain-of-thought reasoning have recently achieved remarkable success. Yet, equipping domain-specialized models with such reasoning capabilities, referred to as “Reasoning + X”, remains a significant challenge. While model merging offers a promising training-free solution, existing methods often suffer from a destructive performance collapse: existing methods tend to both weaken reasoning depth and compromise domain-specific utility. Interestingly, we identify a counter-intuitive phenomenon underlying this failure: reasoning ability predominantly resides in parameter regions with low gradient sensitivity, contrary to the common assumption that domain capabilities correspond to high-magnitude parameters. Motivated by this insight, we propose ReasonAny, a novel merging framework that resolves the reasoning–domain performance collapse through Contrastive Gradient Identification. Experiments across safety, biomedicine, and finance domains show that ReasonAny effectively synthesizes “Reasoning + X” capabilities, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art baselines while retaining robust reasoning performance.

The Stackelberg Speaker: Optimizing Persuasive Communication in Social Deduction Games

Zhang Zheng The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Deheng Ye, Peilin Zhao Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hao Wang The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)

Large language model (LLM) agents have shown remarkable progress in social deduction games (SDGs). However, existing approaches primarily focus on information processing and strategy selection, overlooking the significance of persuasive communication in influencing other players’ beliefs and responses. In SDGs, success depends not only on making correct deductions but also on convincing others to respond in alignment with one’s intent. To address this limitation, we formalize turn-based dialogue in SDGs as a Stackelberg competition, where the current player acts as the leader who strategically influences the follower’s response. Building on this theoretical foundation, we propose a reinforcement learning framework that trains agents to optimize utterances for persuasive impact. Through comprehensive experiments across four diverse social deduction benchmarks, we demonstrate that our agents significantly outperform baselines. This work represents a significant step toward developing AI agents capable of strategic social influence, with implications extending to scenarios requiring persuasive communication. Our code and data are available at https://3dagentworld.github.io/leader_follower.

HarmRLVR: Weaponizing Verifiable Rewards for Harmful LLM Alignment

Yuexiao Liu, Lijun Li Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Xingjun Wang Tsinghua University, Jing Shao Shanghai AI Laboratory

Recent advancements in Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) have gained significant attention due to their objective and verifiable reward signals, demonstrating strong performance in reasoning and code generation tasks. However, the potential safety risks associated with RLVR remain underexplored. This paper presents HarmRLVR, the first systematic investigation into the alignment reversibility risk of RLVR. We show that safety alignment can be rapidly reversed using GRPO with merely 64 harmful prompts without responses, causing models to readily comply with harmful instructions. Across five models from Llama, Qwen, and DeepSeek, we empirically demonstrate that RLVR-based attacks elevate the average harmfulness score to 4.94 with an attack success rate of 96.01%, significantly outperforming harmful fine-tuning while preserving general capabilities. Our findings reveal that RLVR can be efficiently exploited for harmful alignment, posing serious threats to open-source model safety.

Suggest-Verify-Revise: A Three-Stage Document-Level Event Causality Identification with Narrative Consistency

Ya Su, Hu Zhang Shanxi University, Dan Qiao, YuJie Wang, Yunxiao Zhao Shanxi University, Yue Fan Shanxi University, Shike Li Shanxi University, Ru Li Shanxi University 等 9 位作者

Document-level Event Causality Identification (DECI) aims to identify causal relations among multiple events within unstructured text. Existing methods predominantly rely on local semantic similarity for independent event-pair discrimination, thereby overlooking the influence of the overall narrative backbone in the propagation of causal dependencies and the role differentiation of events within multi-cause/multi-effect structures. Therefore, we propose a suggest-verify-revise approach for document-level Event Causality Identification with narrative consistency (SVRECI). In the suggest stage, we integrate multi-dimensional heuristic causal suggestions generated by an LLM with structural suggestions derived from hypergraph modeling to provide multi-source initial support for candidate event pairs. In the verify stage, we introduce a Topological Hawkes process to perform constrained verification of narrative propagation consistency among events. In the revise stage, we construct a dynamically evolving document-level causal graph and incorporate a structure-aware dual-level contrastive learning mechanism at both the event and event-pair levels, iteratively reducing noisy edges over multiple iterations. Experimental results on EventStoryLine and Causal-TimeBank datasets demonstrate that our approach outperforms previous methods.

Leibniz: Theory-of-Mind Driven Neuro-Symbolic Logical Reasoning via Multi-Agent Collaboration

Yue Fan Shanxi University, Hu Zhang Shanxi University, Yunxiao Zhao Shanxi University, Guangjun Zhang, Hao Zhan, Ru Li Shanxi University, Hongye Tan Shanxi University, Yuanlong Wang

Logical reasoning with large language models (LLMs) has made significant progress in recent years. However, existing methods still suffer from insufficient rule semantic grounding and weak rule application mechanisms, making it difficult to achieve precise understanding and effective utilization of rules in complex multi-step reasoning. To address this, we propose Leibniz, a theory-of-mind driven neuro-symbolic reasoning framework. Specifically, we construct a bidirectional reasoning model based on multi-agent collaboration, which characterizes the reasoning process from two complementary perspectives, namely the Evolution Agent and the Reduction Agent. The former transforms belief-unstable propositions into stable ones that are beneficial for proving the target conclusion. The latter performs reverse reduction from the target to resolve belief conflicts and distill new inferential insights. Both share a belief state space and achieve efficient collaborative reasoning through continual belief updating. We integrate natural language and symbolic representations throughout the reasoning process. The experimental results demonstrate that Leibniz surpasses existing state-of-the-art models in reasoning accuracy, and further analyses reveal its substantial advantages in reliability and flexibility.

ChatHLS: Towards Systematic Design Automation and Optimization for High-Level Synthesis

Runkai Li, Jia Xiong, Xiuyuan He, Jieru Zhao Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jiaqi Lv, Haowen Fang Synopsys Inc., Lei Qi Southeast University, Xi Wang Southeast University

High-Level Synthesis (HLS) improves IC development productivity by enabling hardware design from C-like languages. However, strict coding constraints and design-specific optimizations limit its widespread adoption. While recent efforts employ large language models (LLMs) to assist HLS design, they often struggle with synthesizability rules and directive semantics. To this end, we introduce ChatHLS, a multi-agent HLS design framework that leverages specialized LLMs for automated debugging and directive tuning. ChatHLS incorporates an adaptive error case expansion mechanism, combined with a reasoning-to-instruction analysis method to accurately diagnose HLS errors. To optimize hardware performance, it enables QoR-aware reasoning to learn the impact of HLS directives on the quality of results (QoR). Experimental results demonstrate that ChatHLS outperforms Gemini-3-pro with a 32.6% relative improvement in debugging, while achieving significant speedups across various HLS kernels and neural network accelerators. These results underscore the potential of ChatHLS for agile hardware development.

BoYaEval: Evaluating Multimodal Large Language Models on Understanding Ancient Chinese Musical Scores

Jiajia Li, Weizhi Xue, Yao Yao, Qiwei Li, Chong Chen, Zuchao Li Wuhan University, Ping Wang Wuhan University, Hai Zhao Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) excel in general tasks but struggle with specialized, structured cultural symbols. We introduce BoYaEval, the first comprehensive benchmark dedicated to deciphering diverse Ancient Chinese musical notations, including five types of ancient Chinese music notation systems. These systems utilize unique spatial layouts and specialized ideograms to encode pitch and intricate playing techniques. BoYaEval comprises 3,175 high-quality images across these notation styles and establishes a three-tier evaluation: Structural Parsing (symbol recognition), Instructional Translation (technique mapping), and Musical Reasoning (melody derivation). We evaluate 21 leading MLLMs. Results indicate that while models perform adequately in basic recognition, they fail in cross-system compositional logic, scoring only around 27% on reasoning tasks. BoYaEval highlights the limitations of current MLLMs in processing diverse spatial-symbolic dependencies, bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and modern AI for digitizing intangible cultural heritage. The BoYaEval benchmark is publicly available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/MYTH-Lab/BoYaEval.
