AI agents are playing an increasingly important role in physics research. However, existing physics benchmarks only evaluate fixed questions, isolated sub-tasks, or paper reproduction with given solutions, and rarely check research quality alongside correctness. We introduce FrontierPhysics, an end-to-end benchmark with 56 tasks made by 42 physicists based on their own research, covering nine domains across theoretical, computational, and experimental physics. Each task requires agents to review the literature, develop a research plan, conduct research and experiments, and produce structured outputs and scientific manuscripts. Combining deterministic verifiers with expert-authored rubrics, FrontierPhysics evaluates whether agents' research is correct and publishable. Across 22 models in 26 configurations, no configuration passes more than 46 of its 168 rollouts. Manual review of agent trajectories shows that frontier agents' main weaknesses are insufficiently rigorous reasoning and limited expert intuition, rather than gaps in physics knowledge or execution errors.

Agent-Driven Generative Priors for Pathology Image Synthesis and Segmentation

Sicheng Yang, Rui Tang, Haipeng Zhou, Hongqiu Wang, Zhaohu Xing, Jianda Ma, Lie Dai, Guang Yang 等 9 位作者

Deep learning methods for pathology are constrained by the limited availability and high cost of large-scale pixel-level annotations. Synthetic data can alleviate this limitation, but existing pipelines often lack reliable quality control and remain weakly connected to downstream analysis. To address these issues, we propose a three-stage framework that integrates automated data screening, generative representation learning, and efficient adaptation to downstream tasks. First, we develop a pathology agent system to assess image quality and filter samples, resulting in TCGA-200K, a dataset containing 217,030 pathology patches selected from the public TCGA repository. Second, we train a generative model on the screened data. In addition to image synthesis, its backbone learns structural and semantic representations that can be transferred to downstream tasks. Third, we adapt the pretrained generative backbone to semantic segmentation using a lightweight task-specific head. We further introduce PathSeg-380K, a semantic segmentation dataset with expert annotations for approximately 380,000 cells across 12 cell types. Experiments on multiple pathology datasets show that the proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art segmentation performance. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/script-Yang/Agent-GenPath.

Revisiting data-driven dynamic security assessment with a tabular foundation model

Olayiwola Arowolo, Maosheng Yang, Jochen Cremer

Data-driven pre-fault dynamic security assessment (DSA) rapidly evaluates the dynamic risk of credible contingencies on a power system using machine learning (ML). Existing approaches face two limitations. First, they require a large labelled database for training, with a separate model trained, tuned, and maintained for each contingency in a potentially long list of credible contingencies. Second, the trained models generalize poorly to unseen contingencies. This work addresses these limitations by using a tabular foundation model (TFM) that assesses stability through in-context learning, and requires no retraining or hyperparameter optimization. We use a single TFM to assess many contingencies at once, removing the need to train one classifier per contingency. We also characterize when using electrical distance coordinates (EDC) as continuous features enables the TFM to generalize to unseen contingencies and when it does not, showing how a few labelled samples can reliably improve generalization. Through comprehensive case studies on the IEEE 68-bus system, we show that a single TFM attains an average Macro F1 score of about 90\% with only 120 labelled samples per contingency, outperforming both classical ML and deep learning baselines, without any model retraining or hyperparameter tuning. For held-out contingencies, we show that using just 10 labelled samples of the new contingency with a modified EDC encoding matches the balanced accuracy of the best achievable transfer learning oracle model, which requires fully labelled data and is not deployable in practice. Overall, this initial study paves the way for developing and deploying foundation models for power system operations, with possible applications across multiple operational tasks.

CARE-FL: Federated Fine-Tuning of Multimodal LLMs in Resource-Constrained Edge Networks

Tianqi Zong, Baosheng Li, Nuocheng Yang, Binbin Chen, Marie Siew

Domain-specific adaptation of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) in privacy-sensitive edge environments requires federated fine-tuning, yet client selection remains challenging due to heterogeneous multimodal data and modality availability, dynamic system conditions, and evolving client utility during training. We propose Constraint-Aware Reinforcement Learning for Efficient Federated Fine-Tuning (CARE-FL), a constrained online client-selection framework for federated MLLM Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) fine-tuning. CARE-FL formulates client participation as a sequential decision process and employs Q-value decomposition to address the large combinatorial joint action space through scalable client-level long-term utility estimation. These utilities are learned online using a modified Double Deep Q-Learning (DDQL) scheme, while constraint-aware $ε$-greedy execution selects feasible client subsets under per-round latency and bandwidth constraints. Complementing client selection, an adaptive aggregation mechanism further controls potentially unstable global updates and places greater weight on the previous model when needed. Experiments on the CrisisMMD disaster-response task in emulated heterogeneous wireless edge environments show that CARE-FL achieves higher and more stable test accuracy than the compared client-selection baselines across different system settings, while satisfying the imposed latency and bandwidth constraints.

MASBench: Benchmarking LLM-based Multi-Agent Collaboration under Partial Observability

Qizhi Chu, Zekai Yu, Sijie Wen, Yang Liu, Chen Qian, Cheng Yang, Chuan Shi, Zhiyuan Liu

Large language models (LLMs) have progressively evolved into the core of autonomous agents. Building on this progress, LLM-based multi-agent systems (MAS) coordinate multiple agents into a synergistic team to accomplish complex tasks that exceed the capabilities of individual agents. The effectiveness of such systems depends not only on the agents themselves, but also on how collaboration mechanisms are designed and organized. Note that real-world collaboration is typically partially observable, where each agent can only access partial information about the environment due to physical or privacy-related constraints. However, many existing multi-agent benchmarks assume global observability, and leave limited support for systematically evaluating collaboration mechanisms. To bridge this gap, we introduce MASBench, a multi-agent collaboration benchmark designed under partially observable constraints. It is organized into three progressive task categories: Reasoning, Scheduling, and Game. Through this structure, we progressively evaluate three representative collaboration mechanisms: Protocol, Memory, and Routing. MASBench further provides deterministic evaluation metrics, including performance score, communication cost, and cost effectiveness, to characterize both collaboration outcomes and communication overhead. Experiments across diverse LLM backbones and mechanism configurations offer empirical guidance for effective MAS design. Code is available at: https://github.com/BUPT-GAMMA/MASBench

GRASP: Gradient-Guided Sampling for Contact-Rich Physics-Based Motion Retargeting

Yang Liu, Tong Wang, Yiming Bao, Heng Yang

We study physics-based retargeting of human demonstrations for robot learning: finding robot controls that reproduce reference motions under contact dynamics. We propose GRASP (Gradient Recovery from Archived Samples for Proposals), which combines sampling-based exploration with gradient-guided refinement without requiring a differentiable simulator. GRASP-TO extends tempered sequential Monte Carlo by fitting local quadratic cost models to archived rollouts and using their gradients to guide Markov chain Monte Carlo rejuvenation. Metropolis-Hastings correction preserves the target distribution for each fixed proposal kernel, and a population analysis connects the recovered gradients to Gaussian smoothing. GRASP-MPC scales this optimizer to long demonstrations through warm-started receding-horizon planning. Experiments on dexterous hands and humanoids show accurate retargeting with a shared tracking objective and no task-specific contact rewards, including 92.8% success on 1352 bimanual OakInk2 demonstrations. The refined references improve PPO tracking in pen spinning and humanoid-object interaction. We also demonstrate dexterous manipulation and whole-body humanoid motion on real hardware.

LoopKV: Loop-Aware KV Cache Compression for Serving Looped Transformers

Tianle Zhou, Yang Zhang, Tianyu Wu, Zhuohan Wang, William Nixon, Juncheng Yang

Looped transformers apply a shared block several times per token to improve accuracy without adding parameters. For models such as Ouro that keep a separate key-value (KV) cache per loop, cache memory limits the batch size that amortizes repeated weight reads. Uniform-bit quantization and fixed rules per loop do not allocate precision according to each layer's sensitivity in each loop. Measurements on Ouro show that quantization sensitivity varies across (loop, layer) cells, and the sum of individual cell damages approximates the overall output damage. Sharing damage also varies by cell, with later loops generally tolerating sharing better. Skipping low-attention values to save reads produces errors that compound across loops. LoopKV uses a one-time offline profile to choose 4-bit storage, 2-bit storage or reuse of the final loop's KV for each cell. The planner minimizes reads under budgets for predicted damage and storage. During decoding, each loop reads the high 2 bits of each 4-bit value and fetches the low bits only where its own attention weights require 4-bit precision. A single fused kernel in vLLM executes the plan. Serving Ouro-1.4B on one RTX PRO 6000, the memory-optimized LoopKV-M plan stores 35% less KV than uniform 4-bit quantization (KIVI-4) on the same fused kernel and CUDA graph. It sustains 1.7-2.2x KIVI-4's goodput under a latency service-level objective with a 16K-token maximum length. None of its averages on six public benchmarks falls significantly below BF16's.

CUA-Master: Scaling Computer-use Agents through Open-World Recursive Improvements

Xinlei Yu, Gen Li, Ji Zhao, Zhangquan Chen, Congcong Wang, Shuai Dong, Zelin Peng, Yuqi Xu 等 18 位作者

Despite recent advances in CUAs, their development remains constrained by the limited diversity, controllability, and reliability of interaction data. Moreover, conventional optimization pipelines lack iterative feedback, while existing recursive improvement approaches often rely on self-generated experiences, limiting ability expansion and yielding diminishing returns. To address these challenges, we introduce CUA-Master, a nested double-loop recursive improvement framework. At the system level, an outer world-data-model flywheel continuously incorporates open-world corpus and leverages evolving model weaknesses to guide subsequent data construction and optimization iterations. At the data level, an inner flywheel couples open-world seeding and autocatalytic propagation. The former mines authentic workflows as seed tasks from instructional videos, and employs visual-semantic dual-path trajectory reconstruction; The latter transforms these seeds into reusable primitives for controllable synthesis of diverse, complex, and verifiable tasks. To enable efficient and reliable trajectory collection, we further introduce a feedback-guided snapshot-rollback retry mechanism in various real environments. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CUA-Master-27B achieves competitive performance across GUI-only and GUI-CLI hybrid benchmarks, scoring 80.2 on OSWorld Verified, 36.9 on OSWorld 2.0, 43.9 on WeaveBench, and 25.0 on Agents' Last Exam. Our framework also substantially improves the quality and efficiency of data synthesis, and exhibits continuous gains across recursive iterations.

CAPT: Class-Aware Prompt Tuning for Federated Long-Tailed Learning with Vision-Language Model

Shihao Hou, Chikai Shang, Jiacheng Yang, Xinyi Shang, Shreyank N. Gowda, Yan Yan, Yang Lu

Effectively addressing the joint effects of non-IID data and long-tailed distribution remains a key challenge in federated learning. While fine-tuning vision-language models (VLMs) like CLIP has shown promise in tackling non-IID scenarios, it often degrades tail-class performance when both heterogeneity and long-tailed distributions are present, even leading to overall performance falling below the zero-shot baseline. To overcome this, we propose Class-Aware Prompt Tuning (CAPT), a novel framework leveraging pre-trained VLMs to effectively learn from non-IID and long-tailed data. Specifically, CAPT introduces a dual-prompt mechanism that synergizes class-aware and general prompts, enabling the model to preserve class-specific information while capturing global trends. Furthermore, to guide the prompts in learning targeted knowledge, we propose a heterogeneity-aware clustering strategy with two key components: similarity-based clusters aggregate class-aware prompts to reinforce tail-specific knowledge, while heterogeneity-based clusters aggregate general prompts to balance diverse representations and promote robust generalization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CAPT significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, e.g., by improving overall accuracy by 6.1% on ImageNet-LT and 8.8% on Places-LT over baselines, while also substantially enhancing tail-class performance across other benchmarks.

PredActBench: Benchmarking Tool-Augmented Dialogue under Controlled Tool Noise

Abdulrahman AlRabah, Xiaocheng Yang, Dilek Hakkani-Tür, Abdussalam Alawini

Large language model (LLM) agents are increasingly used to support decisions by calling external tools. Existing work on LLM tool-calling assumes these tools are perfectly reliable. However, in many applications, the tools are statistical predictors with non-trivial errors. We introduce PredActBench, a benchmark for evaluating dialogue agents that work with imperfect predictive tools, using education as a testbed. First, we build a benchmark in which LLMs work with noisy predictors to guide users' decisions. Second, we extend two prior metrics for trust calibration, Relative AI-Reliance and Relative Self-Reliance, to multi-turn dialogue. Third, we evaluate 13 LLMs on OULAD and our released PredAct-CS dataset of 60 courses with real final grades and synthetic weekly scores, alongside a human study involving 13 instructors and teaching assistants. We find that when tools are noisy, SOTA models rarely make predictor uncertainty visible to users, with our strongest baseline GPT-5.5 achieving an F1 of 57.2. As a result, users over-rely on incorrect predictions and unsupported claims, showing that task accuracy alone is not enough for AI decision support and agents must communicate when their tools may be wrong. We release PredActBench to support the development of LLM agents that help users calibrate their reliance.

EyeAgent: An Agentic AI System for Multimodal Clinical Decision Support in Ophthalmology

Danli Shi, Xiaolan Chen, Bingjie Yan, Weiyi Zhang, Jiancheng Yang, Ruoyu Chen, Xinyuan Wu, Siyu Huang 等 26 位作者

Current medical artificial intelligence (AI) systems are often task-specific, poorly integrated, and difficult to interpret, limiting support for multimodal clinical workflows. We developed and evaluated EyeAgent for ophthalmic decision support. EyeAgent comprises three layers including 54 task-specific EyeTools, 32 clinical skills, and a modular large language model reasoning core with interchangeable backbones. A multi-level evaluation distinguished this scope from empirical system-level validation. Component-level evaluation assessed newly developed models on held-out splits of datasets totaling 871,862 samples. System-level evaluation included illustrative cases of workflow breadth, a 200-case expert-rating study of output quality, and an exploratory multicenter reader study comparing unassisted and EyeAgent-assisted performance among 27 ophthalmologists from 11 centers. Skill-level and backbone ablations further assessed orchestration and robustness. In illustrative cases, EyeAgent showed task-specific advantages over GPT-5.5 in lesion quantitation, cross-modality synthesis, and uncertainty-aware reporting. In the expert-rating study, EyeAgent achieved an F1 score of 0.84 for skill selection, with 82.7%-92.0% of outputs rated acceptable or better across six clinical dimensions. In the exploratory multicenter reader study, diagnostic accuracy increased from 72.8% unassisted to 91.9% assisted (difference, 19.1 percentage points (pp); 95% CI, 13.6-24.7; Holm-adjusted P<0.001). Report completeness increased from 55.8% to 75.6% (difference, 19.8 pp; 95% CI, 14.8-24.7; Holm-adjusted P<0.001). Across the evaluated settings, EyeAgent supported interpretable, evidence-guided reasoning and showed potential for human-AI collaboration. Broader real-world effectiveness and generalizability require prospective and cross-population validation.

ClinFusion: A Vision-Centric Multimodal LLM System for Holistic Medical Understanding

Hangjie Yuan, Yichen Qian, Zhiwei Tang, Xianzhe Xu, Sicheng Yang, Lirong Wu, Jinwang Wang, Pengju Wang 等 24 位作者

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) hold immense potential to revolutionize clinical practice, yet deploying them in the medical domain is fundamentally a vision-centric challenge: models must absorb knowledge from heterogeneous 2D and 3D medical images, and evaluation protocols must align with radiologists' clinical practice and provide an accurate, fine-grained and factualness-driven assessment. In this paper, we introduce ClinFusion, a vision-centric MLLM designed for holistic medical understanding that systematically addresses these limitations. We propose a compositional and cascaded vision encoder architecture featuring a Cascade Spatial-Aware Locality Fusion operator that unifies diverse 2D and native 3D medical image understanding within a fused encoder. We further introduce a vision-grounded evaluation framework, including MedIF-Bench for instruction-following assessment and a region-of-interest-grounded method for clinically aligned and factualness-driven report generation evaluation. We show that ClinFusion sets a new state-of-the-art across a comprehensive suite of 2D and 3D multimodal medical benchmarks---spanning visual question answering, report generation, and instruction following---as well as textual medical tasks, outperforming leading open-source medical MLLMs (\textit{e.g.}, Hulu-Med, Lingshu) on 20 out of 24 benchmarks and demonstrating multimodal capabilities better than powerful proprietary models such as GPT-5.2 and Gemini-3-Flash on 13 out of 16 benchmarks, and can be further augmented with agentic tool use for retrieval-augmented and tool-assisted clinical workflows. A blinded evaluation by board-certified radiologists confirms that ClinFusion produces the highest-ranked reports, and validates our RoI-grounded metric as achieving the strongest correlation with expert judgment among all automatic evaluation metrics examined.

BEACON: Cross-Domain Co-Training of Generative Robot Policies via Best-Effort Adaptation

Antong Zhang, Han Qi, Heng Yang

We introduce BEACON--Best-Effort Adaptation for Cross-Domain Co-Training--a theory-guided framework for training generative robot policies with abundant source demonstrations and limited target demonstrations. BEACON casts cross-domain co-training as a discrepancy-aware importance-reweighting problem, jointly learning a diffusion-based visuomotor policy and per-sample source weights through an objective inspired by the Best-Effort Adaptation (BEA) bound. To make this approach practical for high-dimensional sequence policies, we develop scalable instance-level discrepancy proxies, stochastic alternating updates for policy and weights, and a multi-source extension that balances heterogeneous source domains. Across sim-to-sim, sim-to-real, and multi-source manipulation settings, BEACON improves robustness and data efficiency over target-only, fixed-ratio co-training, and feature-alignment baselines. Without an explicit alignment objective, BEACON also brings source and target representations closer together as an implicit result of discrepancy-aware co-training.

Coupled Guidance for Flow Matching

Mateo Clémente, Léo Maxime Brunswic, Rui Heng Yang, Amir Rasouli

Guidance methods are essential tools for steering the generation process in diffusion models, improving the generalizability of stochastic robotic controllers and enabling high-quality controlled image synthesis. Despite strong parallels between flow-matching and diffusion, integrating guidance into flow-matching models remains quite challenging. Recent work has proposed general guidance frameworks for flow-matching, however, they are direct adaptations of diffusion guidance methods and can prove unstable. In this work, we conduct a theoretical analysis of guidance in flow-matching and show that a naive translation of diffusion-based guidance to flow-matching breaks the coupling distribution used during training, resulting in weaker control over sampling accuracy. Building on this insight, we propose Coupled Guidance, a flow-matching-specific guidance mechanism derived from a geometric perspective that leverages the coupling structure inherent to flow-matching training. To validate the effectiveness of our approach, we conduct extensive experimentation on a custom robotic collision avoidance task using ManiSkill3, four robotic dexterous manipulation tasks from the Adroit benchmark, and three image generation tasks, namely inpainting, super-resolution, and deblurring, using the ImageNet-128 and CelebA-HQ-256 datasets. Our findings show that our framework improves sample quality and guidance stability across all tasks, without imposing any additional overhead.

Smartphone Indoor Localization Enhanced by Hierarchical Multi-Sensor Context Recognition

Wenhui Feng, Muhan Weng, Jianyu Liu, Xiansheng Yang, Hao Zhang, Liang Wang, Yuan Zhuang

Smartphone indoor localization requires low-cost, robust positioning across scene transitions and phone-use variations. Pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) enables infrastructure-free deployment but accumulates errors from heading drift, structural transitions, and carrying-mode changes. Existing methods often treat contextual cues as a single event stream or local correction signal, limiting their ability to address distinct localization errors. This paper presents a framework enhanced by hierarchical multi-sensor context recognition. A jointly data- and model-driven recognition model predicts environment, scene, and activity probabilities, which are converted into scene-event and action-context segments. Scene-event segments guide scene-constrained PDR correction through corridor heading constraints, landmark attraction, fixed-lag backtracking, and vertical-transition handling. Action-context segments drive action-aware RoNIN-based position compensation for carrying-mode-dependent drift. Experiments on cross-floor and multi-action trajectories against LiDAR-SLAM references show that the proposed framework outperforms PDR and representative learned inertial odometry baselines, demonstrating that hierarchical semantics provide reliable, localization-specific correction cues.

Evaluating the Robustness of Proof Autoformalization in Lean 4

Zhengtao Gui, Sheng Yang, Zhouxing Shi

Proof autoformalization aims to translate a mathematical informal proof in natural language into a formal proof in a formal language such as Lean 4. Existing LLM-based models for proof autoformalization are typically evaluated only on well-formed informal proofs from curated datasets. We argue that a robust proof autoformalizer must remain faithful even for informal proofs that diverge from these idealized ones, and we present the first study on the robustness of proof autoformalization models. We formulate two categories of perturbations: a global perturbation paraphrases the informal theorem-proof pair in a different style, under which the formalization should remain consistent; a local perturbation alters a value, symbol, or proof step, possibly in a counterfactual way, and a robust formalization should faithfully reflect the perturbation rather than reverting to the original or inferring a different one on its own. We build a benchmark with both perturbations on miniF2F and MATH-500, and automatically measure how stable a proof autoformalization's correctness is under global perturbations and how faithfully its output reflects local perturbations. We evaluate seven recent models: their correctness varies under global perturbations, and they mostly fail to remain faithful under local perturbations.

An Embarrassingly Simple Data Selection Strategy for Million-Scale Multi-Modal Instruction-Tuning

Mengyao Lyu, Yan Li, Huasong Zhong, Hui Chen, Jungong Han, Guiguang Ding, Zhenheng Yang

Recent research demonstrates that pretrained large language models (LLMs) require minimal but carefully curated data for instruction-tuning. Building on LLMs, multi-modal models further contend with far larger data volumes, heterogeneous sources, and cross-modal alignment, amplifying both the necessity and the complexity of data selection. However, existing methods rely on deeply extracted embeddings, gradients or narrow quality scores that are time-consuming to compute and limited in expressiveness, frequently failing to surpass a simple random-sampling baseline. To overcome these limitations, we step back from complex embedding spaces and target the fundamental objective of instruction tuning: how and what knowledge should be elicited from the pretrained model and exposed to users. We leverage interaction \underline{S}tyles as a proxy for structural diversity, and decompose data quality into capability-specific \underline{S}cores, yielding an explicit yet \underline{R}ich (SSR) profile for each sample. We further cast the selection as submodular coverage maximization over the capability--style grid, providing an approximation guarantee. SSR consistently delivers superior performance across two distinct architecture stacks, LLaVA-1.5 (Vicuna + CLIP) and LLaVA-OneVision (Qwen2 + SigLIP), two large-scale data pools, six data budget settings, and 14 multi-modal benchmarks. To our knowledge, SSR is the first data selection method validated at million-scale, achieving 99.1% of full-data performance using only 30% of a 2.6M pool. Furthermore, the SSR profile models and selected subsets transfer training-free across data pools and model architectures with capability extensibility.

ZeRO-Prefill: Zero Redundancy Overheads in MoE Prefill Serving

Zhaoyuan Su, Olatunji Ruwase, Karthik Ganesan, Aurick Qiao, Samyam Rajbhandari, Juncheng Yang, Yue Cheng, Yuxiong He

Production LLM workloads increasingly serve discriminative tasks, such as classification, recommendation, and verification, whose answers are read from the logits of a single prefill pass with no autoregressive decoding. Serving these prefill-only workloads on mixture-of-experts (MoE) models is bottlenecked not by compute but by the distributed execution required to fit the model: existing parallel strategies (tensor, expert, and pipeline parallelism) trade memory pressure for redundant computation, communication, and synchronization, severely degrading MoE prefill serving efficiency. We observe that these overheads stem from coupling expert placement with synchronous activation routing -- a design inherited from the decoding era. The long, compute-bound forward passes of large-batch prefill open a per-layer window wide enough to stream expert weights in the background, replacing per-layer activation AllToAll with asynchronous weight AllGather fully overlapped with computation. We propose ZeRO-Prefill, a prefill-only serving system built on this idea. Its backend, AsyncEP (Asynchronous Expert Parallelism), gathers experts by weight rather than by activation; its co-designed frontend enforces a physically derived saturation threshold through prefix-aware routing and true-FLOPs load tracking. On Qwen3-235B-A22B across four hardware/precision configurations, ZeRO-Prefill delivers 1.34-1.37x throughput over the strongest distributed baseline on real-world workloads and up to 1.59x on long-context synthetic workloads, sustaining 29.8-36.2% per-GPU model FLOPs utilization.

Work Agents: Systems, Capabilities, and Optimization

Zishan Xu, Enjun Du, Mingqi Gao, Cheng Yang, Junhao Shen, Zirong Chen, Zhiyuan Yao, Yifu Guo 等 16 位作者

As foundation models evolve from information generation to digital work execution, agents are increasingly capable of completing complex tasks across tools, applications, and workflows. However, existing research lacks a unified perspective on how agents reliably accomplish delegated work. To address this gap, we present a work-centric, system-level perspective that views work agents as systems combining foundation models and runtime harnesses to execute tasks in stateful workspaces and deliver verifiable outcomes. We introduce two complementary dimensions, work persistence and work openness, to characterize working conditions, and classify digital work into five forms according to task scope and organization. Building on this framework, we identify five core capability families required for reliable work execution and examine approaches to model optimization, harness optimization, and their joint optimization. We further analyze existing evaluation methods and metrics from the perspective of work outcomes. Finally, we discuss future research directions, including sustained work delegation, adaptation to open environments, and the interaction between work execution and capability improvement. This paper provides a unified framework for understanding, optimizing, and evaluating work agents, supporting the development of systems capable of delivering reliable, verifiable, and practically valuable work outcomes.

SemaPLC: A Project-Grounded, Verification-Gated Agent Harness for PLC Code Generation

Yanlun Tu, Huacan Wang, Jin Xie, Ziyue Zhou, Jie Zhou, Ningyan Zhu, Ge Chen, Wangyi Chen 等 14 位作者

In industrial practice, AI-generated programmable logic controller (PLC) code must integrate with existing projects and implement the required behavior across scan cycles. Compilation alone does not establish runtime behavior, and subsequent edits can invalidate earlier verification results. We present SemaPLC, a project-grounded, verification-gated agent harness for PLC code generation. The harness combines project context and reusable PLC skills with specification review, compilation, and live-runtime validation. Its completion gate requires recorded checks to meet acceptance criteria for the current implementation. Edits invalidate previous verdicts, and failed checks guide bounded repair. We evaluate SemaPLC on 117 independent-POU tasks and 65 project-context tasks across seven language-model backbones. SemaPLC outperforms the evaluated baselines on both metrics for every backbone. Its mean verified-pass rate and dynamic score reach 72.6% and 52.2, exceeding the strongest baseline means by 8.7% points and 20.8 points, respectively. Verification-layer and failure analyses reveal how build recovery and output observability affect end-to-end results and identify behavioral errors that remain after compilation. Towards Spatio-Temporal Intelligence Systems in Urban Space: A Twin-Agent Perspective

Zhen Dong, Haiping Wang, Wei Tu, Yuan Liu, Bing Wang, Xuan Sun, Jinzhou Cao, Ronald Clark 等 17 位作者

Cities must coordinate domains like infrastructure, mobility, environmental management, emergency response, and public services as conditions evolve. An urban Spatio-Temporal Intelligence (STI) system helps the city monitor citywide states, analyze problems, plan and execute interventions, and adapt through feedback, making urban governance more timely, effective, and transparent. Recent urban twinning and agentic AI techniques provide foundations for such systems. From a twin-agent perspective, this survey takes a system-level view of how these disparate techniques can be coherently integrated into an urban STI system. Specifically, we review how the twin reconstructs and represents a persistent, information-enriched urban environment, and how the agent understands the twin via interfaces, reasons over it, acts reliably, and continuously evolves with the city. Built upon this synthesis, we summarize a two-loop blueprint, where an inner agent loop for grounding, reasoning, and verification, and an outer system loop linking data, twin, agentic action, feedback, and update. We then use this to structure an STI research agenda and show how a shared prototype supports diverse urban domains.

SceneAgent: An Agentic Pipeline from 3D and 4D Captures to Simulation Environments

Luke Hollis, Tianxing Fan, Heng Yang

Visual captures provide detailed scene appearance, but converting them into interactive simulation environments requires object reconstruction, physical modeling, and correction of intermediate errors. We present SceneAgent, an agentic pipeline that coordinates these steps through simulator-based visual inspection and repair. The pipeline processes 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), photogrammetry, LiDAR captures, AI-generated 3DGS scenes, and 4D videos of dynamic scenes, and combines object segmentation, physical parameter estimation, part decomposition, articulation, and deformable simulation. To support policy learning, SceneAgent generates diverse object variants ("digital sisters") and scripted demonstrations. On a cluttered bin scene from GraspClutter6D, SceneAgent raises F1 at 1 cm for every coding agent with scorable outputs both with and without its skills, and its reconstructions are better than SimFoundry: all agent configurations exceed SimFoundry's F1 score, with a best of 60.75% versus 6.9%. On three dynamic scenes from 4DCodeBench, SceneAgent raises the mean dynamic IoU of Gemini 4 Argon from 0.86% to 99.09%. We further demonstrate diverse simulated interactions and preliminary policy transfer to a real robot.

The Complexity of Value Optimization in Sporadic Task Systems

Christopher Harbourne, Nathan Fisher, Kecheng Yang, Pontus Ekberg, Sanjoy Baruah, Zhishan Guo

Value-based Task Selection (VTS) asks whether a real-time system can select tasks whose total value reaches a required target while preserving every deadline. We study its threshold decision form for finite collections of independent sporadic tasks scheduled preemptively on one processor. We prove that this problem is $Σ_2^P$-complete for both constrained and arbitrary deadlines, even when all numerical parameters are encoded in unary. The existential choice is the selected task set, while the universal condition requires every processor-demand window to remain feasible. Our hardness reduction already uses constrained-deadline tasks. It represents universal assignments by Chinese Remainder Theorem timestamps and uses polynomial-weight local selector locks to enforce a valid existential assignment. The reduction produces polynomially many tasks, and every generated execution time, deadline, period, task value, and target is polynomially bounded in the source-instance size.

MASFactory: A Graph-centric Framework for Orchestrating LLM-Based Multi-Agent Systems with Vibe Graphing

Large language model-based (LLM-based) multi-agent systems (MAS) are increasingly used to extend agentic problem solving via role specialization and collaboration. MAS workflows can be naturally modeled as directed computation graphs, where nodes execute agents or sub-workflows and edges encode dependencies and message passing. However, implementing complex graph workflows in current frameworks still requires substantial manual effort, offers limited reuse, and makes it difficult to integrate heterogeneous external context sources. To overcome these limitations, we present MASFactory, a graph-centric framework for orchestrating LLM-based MAS. It introduces Vibe Graphing, a human-in-the-loop approach that compiles natural-language intent into an editable workflow specification and then into an executable graph. In addition, the framework provides reusable components, skill support, multimodal message handling, and pluggable context integration, as well as a visualizer for topology preview, runtime tracing, and human-in-the-loop interaction. We evaluate MASFactory on seven public benchmarks, validating both reproduction consistency for representative MAS methods and the effectiveness of Vibe Graphing. Our code (https://github.com/BUPT-GAMMA/MASFactory, licensed under Apache-2.0) and video demonstration (https://youtu.be/ANynzVfY32k) are publicly available.

ImpRIF: Stronger Implicit Reasoning Leads to Better Complex Instruction Following

Yuancheng Yang, Lin Yang ByteDance Inc., Xu Wang ByteDance Inc., Chao Tong Beihang University, Haihua Yang ByteDance

As applications of large language models (LLMs) become increasingly complex, the demand for robust complex instruction following capabilities is growing accordingly. We argue that a thorough understanding of the instruction itself, especially the latent reasoning structure embedded between the lines, is crucial for improving instruction following. Therefore we target complex instructions that involve implicit reasoning, intricate logical relations, and multi-constraint dependencies. We propose ImpRIF, a method to enhance LLMs’ understanding of implicit reasoning instructions, thereby improving its ability to follow complex instructions. We formalize such instructions as verifiable reasoning graphs, enabling programmatic verification and graph-driven chain-of-thought reasoning. Based on this formulation, we synthesize large-scale single- and multi-turn data, propose fine-tuning with graph reasoning, and apply reinforcement learning to explicitly train models to reason along the graph. On five complex instruction following benchmarks, our models substantially outperform their base models. These results demonstrate that enhancing implicit reasoning capabilities can significantly improve complex instruction following. This project will be open-sourced in the near future.

Dual-Cluster Memory Agent: Resolving Multi-Paradigm Ambiguity in Optimization Problem Solving

Xinyu Zhang Xi'an Jiaotong University, Yuchen Wan, Boxuan Zhang, Zesheng Yang, Lingling Zhang Xi'an Jiaotong University, Bifan Wei Xi'an Jiaotong University, Jun Liu Xi'an Jiaotong University

Large Language Models (LLMs) often struggle with structural ambiguity in optimization problems, where a single problem admits multiple related but conflicting modeling paradigms, hindering effective solution generation. To address this, we propose Dual-Cluster Memory Agent (DCM-Agent) to enhance performance by leveraging historical solutions in a training-free manner. Central to this is Dual-Cluster Memory Construction. This agent assigns historical solutions to modeling and coding clusters, then distills each cluster’s content into three structured types: Approach, Checklist, and Pitfall. This process derives generalizable guidance knowledge. Furthermore, this agent introduces Memory-augmented Inference to dynamically navigate solution paths, detect and repair errors, and adaptively switch reasoning paths with structured knowledge. The experiments across seven optimization benchmarks demonstrate that DCM-Agent achieves an average performance improvement of 11%- 21%. Notably, our analysis reveals a “knowledge inheritance” phenomenon: memory constructed by larger models can guide smaller models toward superior performance, highlighting the framework’s scalability and efficiency.

With the rise of the Agent Web and Model Context Protocol (MCP), the agent ecosystem is evolving into an open collaborative network, exponentially increasing accessible tools. However, current architectures face severe scalability and generality bottlenecks. To address this, we propose ACE-Router, a pipeline for training history-aware routers to empower precise navigation in large-scale ecosystems. By leveraging a dependency-rich candidate Graph to synthesize multi-turn trajectories, we effectively train routers with dynamic context understanding to create the plug-and-play Light Routing Agent. Experiments on the real-world benchmarks MCP-Universe and MCP-Mark demonstrate superior performance. Notably, ACE-Router exhibits critical properties for the future Agent Web: it not only generalizes to multi-agent collaboration with minimal adaptation but also maintains exceptional robustness against noise and scales effectively to massive candidate spaces. These findings provide a strong empirical foundation for universal orchestration in open-ended ecosystems. Our code is available at https://github.com/euyis1019/ACE-Router.

Cognitive Alpha Mining via LLM-Driven Code-Based Evolution

Fengyuan Liu, Yi Huang China Mobile Research Institute, Sichun Luo University of Hong Kong, Yuqi Wang, Yazheng Yang, Xinye Li, Zefa Hu Jiutian Research, China Mobile, Junlan Feng 等 9 位作者

Discovering effective predictive signals, or “alphas,” from financial data with high dimensionality and extremely low signal-to-noise ratio remains a difficult open problem. Despite progress in deep learning, genetic programming, and, more recently, large language model (LLM)–based factor generation, existing approaches still explore only a narrow region of the vast alpha search space. Neural models tend to produce opaque and fragile patterns, while symbolic or formula-based methods often yield redundant or economically ungrounded expressions that generalize poorly. Although different in form, these paradigms share a key limitation: none can conduct broad, structured, and human-like exploration that balances logical consistency with creative leaps. To address this gap, we introduce the Cognitive Alpha Mining Framework (CogAlpha), which combines code-level alpha representation with LLM-driven reasoning and evolutionary search. Treating LLMs as adaptive cognitive agents, our framework iteratively refines, mutates, and recombines alpha candidates through multi-stage prompts and financial feedback. This synergistic design enables deeper thinking, richer structural diversity, and economically interpretable alpha discovery, while greatly expanding the effective search space.Experiments on 5 stock datasets from 3 stock markets demonstrate that CogAlpha consistently discovers alphas with superior predictive accuracy, robustness, and generalization over existing methods. Our results highlight the promise of aligning evolutionary optimization with LLM-based reasoning for automated and explainable alpha discovery.

Spatial-Agent: Agentic Geo-spatial Reasoning with Scientific Core Concepts

Riyang Bao Emory University, Cheng Yang, Dazhou Yu Emory University, Zhexiang Tang, Gengchen Mai Google and University of Texas at Austin, Liang Zhao Emory University

Geospatial reasoning is essential for real-world applications such as urban analytics, transportation planning, and disaster response. However, existing LLM-based agents often fail at genuine geospatial computation, relying instead on web search or pattern matching while hallucinating spatial relationships. We present Spatial-Agent, an AI agent grounded in foundational theories of spatial information science. Our approach formalizes geo-analytical question answering as a concept transformation problem, where natural-language questions are parsed into executable workflows represented as GeoFlow Graphs—directed acyclic graphs with nodes corresponding to spatial concepts and edges representing transformations. Drawing on spatial information theory, Spatial-Agent extracts spatial concepts, assigns functional roles with principled ordering constraints, and composes transformation sequences through template-based generation. Extensive experiments on MapEval-API and MapQA benchmarks demonstrate that Spatial-Agent significantly outperforms existing baselines including ReAct and Reflexion, while producing interpretable and executable geospatial workflows.

Scaling Large Language Model-based Multi-Agent Collaboration

Chen Qian, Zihao Xie, YiFei Wang, Wei Liu, Kunlun Zhu, Hanchen Xia, Yufan Dang, Zhuoyun Du 等 12 位作者

Recent breakthroughs in large language model-driven autonomous agents have revealed that multi-agent collaboration often surpasses each individual through collective reasoning. Inspired by the neural scaling law--increasing neurons enhances performance, this study explores whether the continuous addition of collaborative agents can yield similar benefits. Technically, we utilize directed acyclic graphs to organize agents into a multi-agent collaboration network (MacNet), upon which their interactive reasoning is topologically orchestrated for autonomous task solving. Extensive evaluations reveal that it effectively supports collaboration among over a thousand agents, with irregular topologies outperforming regular ones. We also identify a collaborative scaling law--the overall performance follows a logistic growth pattern as agents scale, with collaborative emergence occurring earlier than traditional neural emergence. We speculate this may be because scaling agents catalyzes their multidimensional considerations during interactive reflection and refinement, thereby producing more comprehensive artifacts. The code is available at https://github.com/OpenBMB/ChatDev/tree/macnet.
