Choosing a robot action model requires evidence about task capability, adaptation cost, deployment requirements, and the reliability of reported conclusions. Success rates alone offer limited guidance to researchers with different computing budgets and goals. We propose RoboSeed, a multidimensional evaluation framework for vision-language-action (VLA) and world-action models (WAM), within a continuing program to train, evaluate, and openly release robot models with verifiable evidence for model selection. The framework defines five dimensions: capability, downstream training affordability, deployment affordability, locally verified research value, and reproduction evidence. It maps empirical measurements and audit criteria to 0-100 profiles using fixed normalization anchors, with balanced, training-constrained, and deployment-constrained preference settings. Interface and protocol checks establish when comparisons are appropriate. Missing measurements remain explicit, incomplete aggregate scores are withheld, and weighted input coverage identifies evidence gaps. We apply the framework to representative VLA and WAM models, drawing on local training, released-weight evaluation, task-level audits, and an evaluation-system study. The results reveal budget-dependent backbone choices, sensitivity to adaptation recipes, and differences between language and visual task interfaces. Reproducible scoring code and machine-readable evidence support extension to additional models. The study provides dimension-level assessments and priorities for further measurement, while incomplete serving traces and heterogeneous protocols preclude overall numerical rankings.

When Charts Deceive Web Agents: A Paired Benchmark for Misleading Visualization-Grounded Tasks

Yisheng Li, Dongming Han, Hongkun Pan, Bingcheng Mao, Zijian Wang, Yunlong Mao, Wei Tong, Sheng Zhong

Web agents increasingly browse, interpret, and act on web content on behalf of users. In many realistic workflows, however, the visual evidence they consume is not neutral: charts and dashboards can be misleading, shaping judgments without issuing any explicit malicious instruction. Unlike chart question answering, Web Agents treat charts as intermediate evidence whose misinterpretation can propagate into concrete downstream actions --- a reliability risk that remains underexplored. We introduce MisVisAgentBench, the first paired executable benchmark for evaluating how misleading visualizations affect Web Agent execution. It comprises 280 task instances in matched clean--misleading pairs that differ only in chart evidence. We further provide a diagnostic framework that isolates misleading-induced failures from baseline task difficulty and captures execution-level effects such as extra browsing steps and decision hesitation. Across thirteen vision-language Web Agents, replacing clean charts with misleading counterparts reduces the average task success rate by more than 34 percentage points. Moreover, these failures predominantly follow the targeted misleading action branch, suggesting that deceptive charts systematically redirect rather than randomly disrupt agent decisions. These results reveal that visualization robustness is a critical yet understudied dimension of Web Agent safety and reliability.

Neighbourhood shortcuts in building damage assessment from very-high-resolution satellite imagery: diagnosis and a building-evidence plug-in

JianChong Guo, YuTing Wan, Kefan Li, AiLong Ma, YanFei Zhong

Building damage assessment (BDA) from very-high-resolution imagery supports disaster response, and deep models now achieve high overall accuracy on public benchmarks. Because damage is spatially clustered, most buildings share the damage level of their neighbours, so overall scores are dominated by such buildings, whereas damaged buildings among intact ones are rare and easily overlooked. A high overall score therefore cannot tell whether a model judges the building itself or relies on its neighbourhood as a shortcut, and this study tests which of the two current models do. We stratify buildings by their agreement with their neighbours, move buildings into new neighbourhoods with their pixels unchanged, and diagnose nine models covering the main paradigms of BDA. All models miss a third to half of the isolated damaged buildings, and in non-flood events they call 73--87% of intact buildings damaged once these are moved into a damaged neighbourhood. We propose a building-evidence plug-in that adds two experts to an existing model without retraining it. One expert sees only the building, and the other sees its surroundings but is trained with seamlessly swapped neighbourhoods so that it learns not to trust them. With each of the nine models, the plug-in maintains or improves overall accuracy, reduces errors on buildings that disagree with their neighbours by 8--18%, and cuts by 40--69% the intact buildings that a damaged neighbourhood turns into damaged ones. It also raises the detection of synthetic isolated damage from 1--6% to 13--39% and carries over to optical--SAR data and to an unseen earthquake. High overall scores thus conceal a systematic reliance on the neighbourhood, which building-level evidence reduces at low cost.

MedVTok: A General-Purpose Medical Visual Tokenizer

Chenglong Ma, Yuanfeng Ji, Junzhi Ning, Jiyao Liu, Yujie Wei, Shaohao Rui, Chaoyang Zhang, Wenjie Li 等 21 位作者

Multimodal medical AI requires a common visual interface for encoding heterogeneous imaging evidence for patient condition modeling. However, existing medical visual tokenizers are often tied to a specific dimension and imaging modality, forcing multimodal systems to rely on fragmented and poorly reusable representations. We introduce MedVTok, a general-purpose visual tokenizer that maps 2D images and 3D volumes from diverse imaging modalities into a unified token space. Building such a tokenizer poses two key challenges: preserving anatomical structure across dimensions and capturing clinical semantics across modalities. To this end, MedVTok introduces (i) slice differential regularization, which explicitly models inter-slice anatomical coherence missing in previous per-pixel/per-voxel supervision, and (ii) multi-expert representation alignment, which integrates knowledge from multiple medical expert encoders while retaining modality-specific complementary knowledge. Trained on 28M images and 70K volumes across 9 imaging modalities, MedVTok supports classification, retrieval, segmentation, synthesis, visual question answering, and medical report generation through a single tokenizer. Across 24 benchmarks, MedVTok achieves state-of-the-art performance, demonstrating a scalable token interface that unifies medical image dimension, modality, and task usage.

Scaling Verifiable Environments for Long-horizon Work Agents

Jiazheng Zhang, Long Ma, Yunxian Yang, Zhiheng Xi, Zhikai Lei, Yajie Yang, Chenyang Liao, Enyu Zhou 等 26 位作者

Work agents operate over digital artifacts to execute professional knowledge-intensive work, requiring training environments that support long-horizon interaction and trustworthy verification. However, hand-crafted environments incur prohibitive engineering overhead that prevents environment scaling, whereas synthesis methods sacrifice workspace complexity, realism, or grounded verifiability. To bridge this gap, we introduce WorkForge, a scalable synthesis framework for constructing verifiable work-agent environments from real-world resources. Starting from expert workflows, WorkForge first identifies the resources, decisions, and deliverables required by each workflow. It then retrieves relevant real-world files and organizes them into a workspace. WorkForge inspects the workspace to extract concrete, checkable facts about its content. These factual anchors fix which task types the workspace can support and how their outcomes can be verified. Therefore, WorkForge derives each task's instructions, solution plan, and complementary programmatic and semantic verifiers directly from these factual anchors, keeping verification traceable to observable workspace evidence. Furthermore, we construct 16.7K verifiable environments across 40 professional domains, with workspaces collectively covering 60 file types. Post-training Qwen3.5-35B-A3B-Base improves GDPVal from 45.5 to 73.6 and APEX Score from 5.0 to 21.3, while enabling Qwen3.5-27B to achieve highly competitive performance and outperform strong competitors. Our analyses confirm the efficacy of the proposed method and reveal consistent scaling behaviors across both data volume and interaction horizons.

Temporal-Difference Calibration of Black-Box Simulators

Min Zeng, Xin Wen, Xi Chen, Yichen Zhang, Wen-Xin Zhou

We develop a derivative-free temporal-difference (TD) framework for calibrating black-box simulators using one-step transitions from a target system and noisy simulator-generated continuation values. The calibration parameter is defined through Bellman orthogonality, recovering the physical parameter under correct simulator specification and yielding a near-optimal $L_2$ approximation of the policy value under misspecification. We propose three TD algorithms based on random-direction finite differences, distinguished by their query costs and reuse of noisy simulator evaluations. We establish almost-sure convergence, last-iterate mean-square error bounds, and central limit theorems for Polyak-Ruppert averages across four query-noise regimes. Our analysis reveals a specification-dependent bias phenomenon: for two algorithms, the finite-difference bias of the TD estimating equation vanishes at the calibration target under correct specification, even when the gradient surrogate remains biased. This permits a fixed perturbation radius and rate exponents approaching $1/2$ in the simulator rollout budget, whereas misspecification generally recovers the classical Kiefer-Wolfowitz rates. We also develop a few-replicate online bootstrap that yields Student-$t$ calibrated confidence intervals under negligible query noise, and identify a covariance mismatch that can invalidate conventional multiplier inference along Markov trajectories. Finally, a second-stage TD recursion corrects the remaining value discrepancy without additional simulator queries.

GrocLM: Grocery Category Recommendation in E-Commerce with Large Language Models

Yuan Zhong, Chuanwei Ruan, Moein Hasani, Tejaswi Tenneti, Haixun Wang, Fenglong Ma

The rapid growth of online grocery shopping requires recommendation systems that capture cyclical purchasing behavior and diverse user intents. Traditional item-level methods face scalability and accuracy challenges, motivating category-level recommendation as a more structured and practical alternative. We present GrocLM, a fine-tuned language model for grocery category recommendation in a real-world production environment. GrocLM employs a two-stage LoRA-based training strategy to encode cyclical purchasing patterns directly into model parameters, enabling more effective utilization of rebuying signals compared to prompt-based conditioning. To ensure valid and controllable outputs, we further introduce a trie-based constrained decoding mechanism over a predefined category space. Experiments on both proprietary production data and a public benchmark demonstrate that GrocLM consistently outperforms strong baselines. In a live production restocking task, GrocLM achieves a 7.5% relative improvement in cart-adds per impression while maintaining efficient inference by generating all categories jointly. These results highlight the effectiveness and practicality of integrating large language models into structured recommendation systems.

AutoRAN: Automated Hijacking of Safety Reasoning in Large Reasoning Models

Jiacheng Liang, Tanqiu Jiang State University of New York at Stony Brook, Yuhui Wang State University of New York at Stony Brook, Rongyi Zhu Stony Brook University, State University of New York at Stony Brook, Fenglong Ma Pennsylvania State University, Ting Wang State University of New York at Stony Brook

This paper presents AutoRAN, the first framework to automate the hijacking of internal safety reasoning in large reasoning models (LRMs). At its core, AutoRAN pioneers an execution simulation paradigm that leverages a weaker but less-aligned model to simulate execution reasoning for initial hijacking attempts and iteratively refine attacks by exploiting reasoning patterns leaked through the target LRM’s refusals. This approach steers the target model to bypass its own safety guardrails and elaborate on harmful instructions. We evaluate AutoRAN against state-of-the-art LRMs, including GPT-o3/o4-mini and Gemini-2.5-Flash, across multiple benchmarks (AdvBench, HarmBench, and StrongReject). Results show that AutoRAN achieves approaching 100% success rate within one or few turns, effectively neutralizing reasoning-based defenses even when evaluated by robustly aligned external models. This work reveals that the transparency of the reasoning process itself creates a critical and exploitable attack surface, highlighting the urgent need for new defenses that protect models’ reasoning traces rather than merely their final outputs.

Can Factual Opinions Be Edited (Manipulated) in Large Language Models?

Yuanpu Cao Pennsylvania State University, Ziyi Yin, Fenglong Ma Pennsylvania State University, Jinghui Chen Pennsylvania State University

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly integrated into various domains, making knowledge editing techniques crucial yet potentially hazardous. Current editing methods primarily target atomic facts, overlooking the significant risks associated with manipulating “factual opinions”, e.g., documented stances of public figures on societal issues. Such manipulation could reshape public images, influence elections, and alter societal views. To systematically assess this threat, we introduce the Factual Opinion Editing with Evidence (FOE) benchmark, which encompasses 261 public figures, 19 issue categories, and 2,178 complete opinion records. Our evaluations demonstrate that current editing techniques struggle significantly with factual opinions, often achieving only superficial changes while failing to preserve consistency between the edited opinion and the supporting evidence generated by the model. To address this limitation, we further propose a simple yet effective Self-Generated Evidence-Aligned method that achieves opinion–evidence alignment without relying on explicit instructions. Together, our benchmark and method provide a foundation for understanding the emerging security implications of factual opinion editing in LLMs.

ICDAGENT: Empowering Agentic Large Language Models for Explainable Medical Coding

Ziyi Yin, Yuanpu Cao Pennsylvania State University, Ting Wang State University of New York at Stony Brook, Jinghui Chen Pennsylvania State University, Fenglong Ma Pennsylvania State University

The explainable medical coding task aims to automatically assign International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes to clinical notes while providing explicit justifications for each assignment. Recent approaches employ large language models (LLMs) to generate such explanations. However, their performance remains limited due to a lack of understanding of the clinical meanings of ICD codes. Additionally, the vast ICD code space further complicates the task of accurate prediction. To address these challenges, we propose the ICDAGENT framework, which consists of two collaborative LLM agents: a coding agent and a critical agent. The coding agent extracts ICD codes and generates preliminary rationales, while the critical agent performs fine-grained chain-of-thought reasoning to verify and refine them. Furthermore, the critical agent is trained with a rationale-aware reward, combined with reinforcement learning, enabling it to distinguish between correct and incorrect reasoning and ensure explanation accuracy. Experiments across multiple ICD coding standards and datasets demonstrate that ICDAGENT achieves effective ICD coding with accurate and trustworthy explanations.

RebRL: Reinforcing Discrete Visual Diffusion Models with Rebalanced Timestep Credits

Zhang, Mu, Ma, Tianren, Liu, Yunfan, Hu, Kun, Ye, Qixiang

Discrete Diffusion Models (DDMs) have shown great potential in image generation, especially when equipped with reinforcement learning (RL) techniques. However, a fundamental yet overlooked limitation is revealed in our experiments: severe imbalance of credit assignment across timesteps during training. As a result, early generation timesteps, which carry higher exploration potential and determine the global structure, provide a smaller contribution to policy optimization. To conquer this, we propose a simple-yet-effective approach, to Re-balance timestep credit of Reinforcement Learning (RebRL) for better exploration-exploitation trade-off and more efficient training of DDMs.RebRL is plug-and-play\textemdash simply replacing uniform temporal policy with strategic rebalancing along masking stages. RebRL is analytically plausible\textemdashderivation and analysis show that it enjoys a uniform token-level policy gradient, which benefits policy optimization.Experiments on text-to-image generation benchmarks show that RebRL achieves state-of-the-art performance on GenEval and improves human preference score by up to 3.40 while effectively reducing training steps by ~40\%.
