基于光流泼溅的单目视频运动表达型4D高斯表示学习

Learning Motion-Expressive 4D Gaussian Representations from Monocular Videos with Flow Splatting

Jinzhao Li, Miao Liu

AI 速览:提出具有时变均值与协方差的运动表达型4D高斯表示,并通过Flow Splatting渲染光流实现稠密运动监督,从单目视频重建动态3D场景。

Reconstructing dynamic 3D scenes from monocular videos remains challenging because limited observations provide insufficient motion constraints. Conventional 4D Gaussian representations model spatiotemporal appearance efficiently, but the restricted temporal evolution of each primitive makes complex nonlinear dynamics difficult to represent compactly. We propose a motion-expressive 4D Gaussian representation with time-varying means and covariances. By analytically differentiating Gaussian trajectories, we obtain Gaussian velocities and introduce Flow Splatting to render optical flow while accounting for camera motion, enabling dense motion supervision. This formulation jointly models scene appearance and motion within a unified set of 4D Gaussian primitives. We further introduce an initialization strategy based on the sampling theorem and a velocity consistency regularizer to stabilize optimization. Experiments on DAVIS and NVIDIA Dynamic Scenes demonstrate a favorable trade-off between reconstruction quality and efficiency under challenging monocular settings.

Pair-Dependent Judge Errors Change the Minimax Rate of Semantic Entropy

Jiamiao Liu, Dewen Qiao, Yu Zhang, Xuetao Chen

Semantic entropy, the entropy of the meanings among a language model's sampled answers, is estimated from the verdicts of a judge that declares pairs of answers equivalent or not, and automatic judges err in ways that depend on the answers they compare. The existing minimax theory covers only judges whose false-equivalence probability is the same for all pairs. We model a known judge that declares two answers with meanings $a$ and $b$ equivalent with probability $q+ΔM_{ab}$, for a symmetric matrix $M$ and $q$ bounded away from $0$ and $1$, and show that for three meanings the rate is set by tree statistics on four answers, while on an open set of channels the consistency threshold is set by trees on five. For every channel in an explicit open class, the minimax squared risk is of order $N^{-1/3}$ with $N=n^4Δ^6$ on polynomial weak windows on which $n^5Δ^8$ exceeds a multiple of $\log n$, and of order $\min\{1,N^{-1/3}\}$ on every polynomial weak window when the tree functions on at most four vertices are injective. The exponent comes from a cubic degeneracy at the equitable point. On an open set of channels in the class, the four-vertex tree functions take equal values at two distributions with different entropies. For such a channel, on every polynomial weak window, the minimax risk is of the order of the sum of $\min\{1,N^{-1/3}\}$ and a term that decays exponentially in $n^5Δ^8$, so no estimator is consistent while $n^5Δ^8$ stays bounded, even as $N\to\infty$. For $Δ=n^{-β}$ with $β>1/2$, channels of the class with injective four-vertex tree functions allow consistent estimation exactly for $β<2/3$, and the channels of this open set exactly for $β<5/8$, at which the risk exponent drops from $1/12$ to $0$. Computer-assisted certificates show that both kinds of channels occur on open sets.

\textit{4DSurf}: High-Fidelity Dynamic Scene Surface Reconstruction

Renjie Wu, Hongdong Li, Jose M. Alvarez, Miaomiao Liu

This paper addresses the problem of dynamic scene surface reconstruction using Gaussian Splatting (GS), aiming to recover temporally consistent geometry. While existing GS-based dynamic surface reconstruction methods can yield superior reconstruction, they are typically limited to either a single object or objects with only small deformations, struggling to maintain temporally consistent surface reconstruction of large deformations over time. We propose ``\textit{4DSurf}'', a novel and unified framework for generic dynamic surface reconstruction that does not require specifying the number or types of objects in the scene, can handle large surface deformations and temporal inconsistency in reconstruction. The key innovation of our framework is the introduction of Gaussian deformations induced Signed Distance Function Flow Regularization that constrains the motion of Gaussians to align with the evolving surface. To handle large deformations, we introduce an Overlapping Segment Partitioning strategy that divides the sequence into overlapping segments with small deformations and incrementally passes geometric information across segments through the shared overlapping timestep. Experiments on two challenging dynamic scene datasets, Hi4D and CMU Panoptic, demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art surface reconstruction methods by 49\% and 19\% in Chamfer distance, respectively, and achieves superior temporal consistency under sparse-view settings.

Unleashing Spatial Reasoning in Multimodal Large Language Models via Textual Representation Guided Reasoning

Jiacheng Hua Tencent and Tsinghua University, Yishu Yin Tsinghua University, Yuhang Wu Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Tai Wang, Yifei Huang The University of Tokyo, Miao Liu Tsinghua University

Existing Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) struggle with 3D spatial reasoning, as they fail to construct structured abstractions of the 3D environment depicted in video inputs. To bridge this gap, drawing inspiration from cognitive theories of allocentric spatial reasoning, we investigate how to enable MLLMs to model and reason over text-based spatial representations of video. Specifically, we introduce Textual Representation of Allocentric Context from Egocentric Video (TRACE), a prompting method that induces MLLMs to generate text-based representations of 3D environments as intermediate reasoning traces for more accurate spatial question answering. TRACE encodes meta-context, camera trajectories, and detailed object entities to support structured spatial reasoning over egocentric videos. Extensive experiments on VSI-Bench and OST-Bench demonstrate that TRACE yields notable and consistent improvements over prior prompting strategies across a diverse range of MLLM backbones, spanning different parameter scales and training schemas. We further present ablation studies to validate our design choices, along with detailed analyses that probe the bottlenecks of 3D spatial reasoning in MLLMs.

SymptomAI: Toward a Conversational AI Agent for Everyday Symptom Assessment

Language models excel at diagnostic assessments on curated medical case-studies and vignettes, performing on par with, or better than, clinical professionals. However, existing studies focus on complex scenarios with rich context making it difficult to draw conclusions about how these systems perform for patients reporting symptoms in everyday life. We deployed SymptomAI, a set of conversational AI agents for end-to-end patient interviewing and differential diagnosis (DDx), via the Fitbit app in a study that randomized participants (N=13,917) to interact with five AI agents. This corpus captures diverse communication and a realistic distribution of illnesses from a real world population. A subset of 1,228 participants reported a clinician-provided diagnosis, and 517 of these were further evaluated by a panel of clinicians during over 250 hours of annotation. SymptomAI DDx were significantly more accurate (OR = 2.56, p < 0.001) than those from independent clinicians given the same dialogue in a blinded randomized comparison. Moreover, agentic strategies which conduct a dedicated symptom interview that elicit additional symptom information before providing a diagnosis, perform substantially better than baseline, user-guided conversations (p < 0.001). An auxiliary analysis on 1,509 conversations from a general US population panel validated that these results generalize beyond wearable device users. We used SymptomAI diagnoses as labels for all 13,917 participants to analyze over 500,000 days of wearable metrics across nearly 400 unique conditions. We identified strong associations between acute infections and physiological shifts (e.g., OR > 7 for influenza). While limited by self-reported ground truth, these results demonstrate the benefits of a dedicated and complete symptom interview compared to a user-guided symptom discussion, which is the default of most consumer LLMs.
