Pediatric electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation is complicated by age-dependent electrophysiological changes that limit direct transfer of adult AI models. We asked whether an adult ECG foundation model could be adapted to pediatric ECGs. Using 339,563 12-lead ECGs from 238,189 children, we compared direct application, pediatric fine-tuning, and training from scratch under an identical architecture. Direct transfer was poor (mean AUC 0.8256). Fine-tuning reached 0.9695, above de novo training (0.9661), and attained 0.9079 using only 1% of training data. On 10,999 external ECGs, fine-tuning achieved a mean AUC of 0.9385 across 30 labels. It generalized to age regression (MAE 1.12 years) and congenital heart disease classification (AUC 0.9562). Across 17 clinicians and 100 cases, diagnostic accuracy rose from 56.8% to 65.4% (p < 0.001) and did not decline when AI erred. Adult ECG foundation models require pediatric adaptation; fine-tuning offers a data-efficient route to scalable pediatric ECG AI.
We study satisficing regret minimization in bandits with knapsacks (BwK), where a learner sequentially selects randomized policies, i.e., distributions over arms, to obtain mean rewards above a satisficing threshold as frequently as possible while respecting finite resource budgets. The performance is measured by satisficing regret, the cumulative deficits of the selected policies' mean rewards below this threshold. Resource constraints introduce two difficulties: an algorithm can incur linear satisficing regret even with small standard regret as deficits to the threshold cannot be compensated, and random consumption can cause early resource depletion even when policies are feasible in expectation. To address these challenges, we propose SELECTwK, a general algorithmic template that uses a BwK learning oracle algorithm with sub-linear expected (standard) regret upper bound to search for and test candidate satisficing policies (i.e., policies whose mean rewards exceed satisficing threshold and whose expected resource consumption is feasible over the time horizon). Our regret analysis, supported by an LP-duality argument, establishes that SELECTwK attains constant expected satisficing regret when a satisficing policy exists. We further introduce a stronger regret condition that bounds the expected sum of positive reward deficits to the optimal one at each time step, under which SELECTwK achieves a sharper constant bound together with a sub-linear bound in the time horizon. As a complement, SELECTwK still preserves the oracle's sub-linear expected standard regret bound if the satisficing threshold is unattainable. Finally, we establish the oracle conditions and corresponding satisficing regret bound for existing finite-armed BwK and dynamic pricing algorithms, and conduct numerical experiments on dynamic pricing with limited inventory to demonstrate the empirical performance of SELECTwK.

Recent industrial credit scoring models remain heavily reliant on manually tuned statistical learning methods. Despite their potential, deep learning architectures have struggled to consistently outperform traditional statistical models in industrial credit scoring, largely due to the complexity of heterogeneous financial data and the challenge of modeling evolving creditworthiness. To bridge this gap, we introduce FinLangNet, a novel framework that reformulates credit scoring as a multi-scale sequential learning problem. FinLangNet processes heterogeneous financial data through a dual-module architecture that combines tabular feature extraction with temporal sequence modeling, generating probability distributions of users’ future financial behaviors across multiple time horizons. A key innovation is our dual-prompt mechanism within the sequential module, which introduces learnable prompts operating at both feature-level granularity for capturing fine-grained temporal patterns and user-level granularity for aggregating holistic risk profiles. Notably, real world deployment yielded a 6.3 pp improvement in KS, along with a 9.9% reduction in bad debt rate.
