openJiuwen: Beyond Static Harnesses for Long-Horizon Coding Agents

原文摘要

Long-horizon coding agents operate over evolving repository states while increasingly relying on heterogeneous capabilities, delegated agents, and multi-agent coordination. These trends pose two complementary challenges for the agent harness. First, developers need to compose capabilities, reconfigure execution logic, and scale increasingly complex agent systems without repeatedly rebuilding orchestration. Second, complex coding tasks continuously produce new evidence---such as semantic diagnostics, execution outcomes, task progress, and changing context relevance---that should dynamically influence subsequent runtime decisions. We characterize these challenges as Structural Composability and Runtime Adaptivity. We present openJiuwen, an open-source harness designed for both developer composability and adaptive task execution. openJiuwen provides a shared execution substrate and Rail-based capability composition across single agents, delegated sub-agents, and Swarm Flow, enabling developers to construct sophisticated agent harnesses under common execution semantics. It further adapts framework-controlled runtime decisions around a fixed model policy, allowing evolving evidence to dynamically affect context, feedback, and task control toward successful completion. We systematically evaluate openJiuwen on SWE-bench Verified and Terminal-Bench 2.1, where it achieves 82.6% and 87.19%, respectively, exceeding the strongest selected official-leaderboard point estimates by 3.4 and 3.39 percentage points. These results show that openJiuwen achieves strong performance on complex coding tasks while providing a composable and adaptive harness design.

Behavioral Affinity Transduction for Zero-Shot Vision-Language Classification

原文摘要

An image that is hard to classify on its own may have a helpful neighbor in the same unlabeled batch. Zero-shot vision-language models (VLMs) score images independently and leave this evidence unused. We study small unlabeled query batches with no labeled examples. Visual similarity can reflect pose or background, so it may connect images from different classes. Each image's scores over the class vocabulary offer another way to choose neighbors. We introduce Behavioral Affinity Transduction (BAT), which builds a sparse graph from these class-response profiles. The graph supplies neighbor evidence during prediction. For EM-Dirichlet, it also screens candidate classes and initializes assignments. BAT plugs into direct and iterative readouts of a frozen VLM. Across diverse datasets, BAT improves the mean accuracy of every tested readout. In the main RN50 comparison, soft and hard EM-Dirichlet gain $4.22$ and $2.72$ percentage points.

Grounding Multimodal Reasoning with Evidence-Ablated Negatives

Chenxi Liu, Tianyi Xiong, Yanshuo Chen, Heng Huang

原文摘要

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has become a powerful tool for improving multimodal reasoning. However, standard outcome supervision suffers from credit assignment ambiguity, as a model may receive positive rewards by exploiting language priors or dataset shortcuts rather than grounding its reasoning in the requisite visual evidence. This makes high-quality negative responses critical, since effective negatives should remain plausible under the current policy while exposing the shortcut that should be suppressed. In this paper, we propose EVAN, a multimodal reinforcement learning framework utilizing EVidence-Ablated Negatives to train LMMs against their own language-prior failures. EVAN first identifies highly visually dependent examples using a scaled image information gain metric and preserves data diversity with a mixed-ranking strategy. It then constructs evidence-ablated images by masking the most discriminative image patches, eliciting plausible but visually ungrounded responses from the current policy. During policy optimization, these negative responses are incorporated as bounded auxiliary signals under the clean image, penalizing shortcut learning while maintaining RL stability. Experiments across challenging multimodal reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that EVAN mitigates modality imbalance and improves over strong RLVR baselines. NextEval: An Agent-Based Solver and Benchmark for Derivative-Free Optimization

Shuo Chen, Li Cui, Cunxin Huang, Ya-Feng Liu, Minghang Xie, Meng Xu, Zaikun Zhang

原文摘要

Derivative-free optimization (DFO) addresses problems where derivatives are unavailable or costly to obtain. This setting often arises in simulation-based and experimental applications, where evaluating the black-box objective can itself be costly. Thus, it remains a central challenge in DFO to effectively exploit accumulated observations to select informative evaluation points under a limited budget. In this light, we introduce the NextEval solver, an agent-based DFO solver, which integrates the capabilities of a large language model (LLM) to guide the sequential selection of evaluation points. Specifically, we establish a system that combines an LLM agent with a numerical environment. The environment provides tools for analyzing past evaluations and executing numerical methods, while maintaining a shared evaluation history and method-specific state to support continuation across method switches. Using observations and tool feedback, the LLM agent selects tools, configures their parameters, and allocates the evaluation budget, while numerical methods compute and evaluate candidate points. Building on this system, we also introduce NextEval Bench, a benchmark protocol for comparing agent configurations on shared DFO tasks using the same numerical tools under matched evaluation budgets and information constraints. Numerical results on low-dimensional DFO problems demonstrate that the NextEval solver outperforms the state-of-the-art DFO baselines in function-evaluation efficiency.

AwarenessBench: Assessing Cognitive Capabilities of Language Models

原文摘要

As language models (LMs) exhibit increasingly consciousness-like behaviors, evaluating their cognitive abilities becomes essential. We introduce AwarenessBench, the first comprehensive benchmark for assessing the cognitive abilities of LMs in four dimensions: metacognition, self-awareness, social awareness, and situational awareness, covering 15 cognitive functions and 14,381 samples. Evaluating 18 state-of-the-art LMs, we find that all consistently surpass random baselines, with more advanced models performing better. We further compare LMs with human performance across three demographic groups, where the best-performing model surpasses human averages overall, but most still fall markedly short in metacognition and self-awareness. Finally, we show that awareness is a distinct capability: progress in language modeling or reasoning does not necessarily translate into improved cognition.
