Omnilingual-MsASR: Benchmarking Multimodal, Multilingual, Long-Form Multi-Speaker ASR of Omni Large Language Models

Omni-modal large language models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable progress in audio and video understanding. However, existing models struggle with long-form, multi-speaker videos, especially in understanding the entire video and recognizing who says what and when. To characterize the capability limit of current omni LLMs and guide future model development, we introduce Omnilingual-MsASR, a multilingual, multimodal benchmark for long-form Multi-speaker Automatic Speech Recognition (MsASR) covering six languages, recordings up to 30 minutes, and scenarios with up to 20 speakers. Omnilingual-MsASR provides parallel audio and video inputs to evaluate models' cross-modal consistency and their ability to exploit complementary cues across modalities. Extensive evaluations of leading omni-modal LLMs reveal substantial performance bottlenecks, while their tcpWERs frequently exceed 100%. These findings highlight fine-grained temporal localization, speaker disambiguation, and cross-modal synergy as key challenges for future omni-modal foundation models. Our work is available at https://github.com/QwenLM/Omnilingua-Bench/tree/main/Omnilingua-MSpeaker.

Towards Reliable, Scalable, and Value-Aligned Generative Recommendation for Large-Scale Advertising

Generative recommendation (GR) reformulates item retrieval as autoregressive generation of discrete semantic identifiers (SIDs), offering a unified paradigm for personalized recommendation. GR4AD, as an industrial generative recommendation framework, has greatly improved advertising revenue while enabling efficient real-time serving in Kuaishou. However, continued deployment has exposed three limitations: deterministic SID assignment remains sensitive to semantic boundaries; conventional backbone scaling provides diminishing revenue gains under strict serving constraints; and sequence-level value optimization provides limited credit assignment to intermediate SID decisions, causing likelihood-based beam search to prematurely prune potentially high-value candidates. We present GR4AD-X, which addresses these limitations through reliable SID construction, serving-efficient capacity scaling, and unified value alignment. Specifically, GR4AD-X improves SID reliability through Multi-Path assignment. It expands model capacity along multiple complementary dimensions rather than relying solely on wider or deeper backbones, achieving a better effectiveness-efficiency trade-off under strict serving constraints. Finally, Unified Value-Guided Generation and Discrimination (UniVGD) aligns generation with commercial value through prefix-level reward optimization, value-guided beam pruning, and discriminative reranking within a unified model. Large-scale online A/B tests on the Kuaishou advertising platform demonstrate that GR4AD-X achieves a cumulative revenue improvement of 3.07% over the deployed GR4AD baseline while satisfying strict latency and throughput constraints.

RouteLMT: Learned Sample Routing for Hybrid LLM Translation Deployment

Yingfeng Luo, Hongyu Liu, DingYang Lin, Kaiyan Chang, Chenglong Wang, Bei Li, Quan Du, Tong Xiao 等 9 位作者

Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable performance in Machine Translation (MT), but deploying them at scale remains prohibitively expensive. A widely adopted remedy is the hybrid system paradigm, which balances cost and quality by serving most requests with a small model and selectively routing a fraction to a large model. However, existing routing strategies often rely on heuristics, external predictors, or absolute quality estimation, which fail to capture whether the large model actually provides a worthwhile improvement over the small one. In this paper, we formulate routing as a budget allocation problem and identify marginal gain, i.e., the large model’s improvement over the small model, as the optimal signal for budgeted decisions. Building on this, we propose RouteLMT (routing for LLM-based MT), an efficient in-model router that predicts this expected gain by probing the small translator’s prompt-token representation, without requiring external models or hypothesis decoding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our RouteLMT outperforms heuristics, quality/difficulty estimation baselines, achieving a superior quality–budget Pareto frontier. Furthermore, we analyze regression risks and show that a simple guarded variant can mitigate severe quality losses.

NiuTrans.LMT: Toward Inclusive and Scalable Multilingual Machine Translation with LLMs

Large language models have significantly advanced Multilingual Machine Translation (MMT), yet scaling to many languages while keeping quality robust across directions remains challenging. In this paper, we identify a failure mode of multilingual supervised fine-tuning (SFT) on multi-way parallel data: when such data are reused symmetrically around a pivot language (e.g., English), performance on reverse directions (X \to pivot) can drop substantially. We term this phenomenon Directional Degeneration and attribute it to excessive many-to-one mappings, which encourage shortcut learning. We propose Strategic Downsampling (SD), a simple yet effective method to mitigate this degeneration. In addition, we introduce Parallel Multilingual Prompting (PMP), which augments translation instructions with an auxiliary parallel sentence to promote cross-lingual transfer during training and enables optional test-time enhancement when auxiliary translations are available. We further develop NiuTrans.LMT (Large-scale Multilingual Translation, abbreviated as LMT), a Chinese–English-centric suite of multilingual translation models spanning four sizes (0.6B/1.7B/4B/8B) and covering 60 languages and 234 directions.Comprehensive evaluations show that LMT is competitive among open-source MMT systems, and that our 4B LMT model performs on par with or better than substantially larger baselines. We release our models and project resources to support inclusive and scalable MMT.

MTR-Suite: A Framework for Evaluating and Synthesizing Conversational Retrieval Benchmarks

Junhao Ruan, Abudukeyumu Abudula, Bei Li Meituan, Yongjing Yin Meituan, Xinyu Liu, Kechen Jiao, Xin Chen Meituan, Jingang Wang Meituan 等 11 位作者

Accurate evaluation of conversational retrieval is pivotal for advancing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. However, existing conversational retrieval benchmarks suffer from costly, sparse human annotation or rigid, unnatural automated heuristics. To address these challenges, we introduce MTR-Suite, a unified framework for auditing, synthesizing, and benchmarking retrieval. It features: (1) MTR-Eval, an LLM-based auditor quantifying alignment gaps in previous benchmarks; (2) MTR-Pipeline, a multi-agent system using greedy traversal clustering to generate high-fidelity dialogues at 1/400th human cost; and (3) MTR-Bench, a rigorous general-domain benchmark. MTR-Bench mimics production-style challenges (hard topic switching, verbosity), offering superior discriminative power. We make our code and data publicly available to facilitate future research.

CoMeT: Collaborative Memory Transformer for Efficient Long Context Modeling

Runsong Zhao, Shilei Liu, Jiwei Tang, Langming Liu Alibaba Group, Haibin Chen, Weidong Zhang Alibaba Group, Yujin Yuan, Tong Xiao Northeastern University 等 11 位作者

The quadratic complexity and indefinitely growing key-value (KV) cache of standard Transformers pose a major barrier to long-context processing. To overcome this, we introduce the Collaborative Memory Transformer (CoMeT), a novel architecture that enables LLMs to handle arbitrarily long sequences with constant memory usage and linear time complexity. Designed as an efficient, plug-in module, CoMeT can be integrated into pre-trained models with only minimal fine-tuning. It operates on sequential data chunks, using a dual-memory system to manage context: a temporary memory on a FIFO queue for recent events, and a global memory with a gated update rule for long-range dependencies. These memories then act as a dynamic soft prompt for the next chunk. The effectiveness of our approach is remarkable: a model equipped with CoMeT and fine-tuned on 32k contexts can accurately retrieve a passkey from any position within a 1M token sequence. On the SCROLLS benchmark, CoMeT surpasses other efficient methods and achieves performance comparable to a full-attention baseline on summarization tasks. Its practical effectiveness is further validated on real-world agent and user behavior QA tasks, supported by a novel layer-level pipeline parallel training strategy that enables fine-tuning on extremely long contexts. LANG: Reinforcement Learning for Multilingual Reasoning with Language-Adaptive Hint Guidance

Yuchun Fan, Bei Li Meituan, Peiguang Li, Yilin Wang, Yongyu Mu Northeastern University, Jian Yang, Xin Chen Meituan, Rongxiang Weng 等 12 位作者

Reinforcement learning has proven effective for enhancing multi-step reasoning in Large Language Models (LLMs), yet its benefits have not fully translated to multilingual contexts. Existing methods struggle with a fundamental trade-off: prioritizing input-language consistency severely hampers reasoning quality, while prioritizing reasoning often leads to unintended language drift toward English. We address this challenge with LANG, a novel framework that leverages language-conditioned hints to guide exploration in non-English reasoning tasks. Our method incorporates two key mechanisms to prevent dependency on these hints: a progressive decay schedule that gradually withdraws scaffolding, and a language-adaptive switch that tailors learning horizons to specific language difficulties. Empirical results on challenging multilingual mathematical benchmarks reveal that LANG substantially enhances reasoning performance without compromising language consistency. Moreover, we show that our framework generalizes beyond mathematics, fostering more consistent language alignment across model layers.

Empirical Analysis of Decoding Biases in Masked Diffusion Models

Pengcheng Huang, Tianming Liu, Zhenghao Liu Northeastern University, Yukun Yan Tsinghua University, Shuo Wang, Tong Xiao Northeastern University, Zulong Chen, Maosong Sun Tsinghua University

Masked Diffusion Models (MDMs) have recently emerged as a promising non-autoregressive paradigm for sequence generation. However, their performance is highly sensitive to the choice of decoding strategy. In this work, we reveal that prevalent uncertainty-based decoding strategies induce two decoding biases in MDMs: rigid boundary bias and trivial token bias. These biases limit the model’s reasoning ability and ultimately degrade generation quality. To address these challenges, we propose UNmasking Calibration for DecOding DEbiasing (UNCODE), a decoding calibration framework that regularizes uncertainty-based decoding by incorporating two complementary priors to shape global decoding trajectories and promote content informativeness. Extensive experiments on three advanced MDMs across seven reasoning- and planning-intensive benchmarks demonstrate that UNCODE consistently outperforms existing decoding strategies by more than 7%, while achieving performance comparable to autoregressive models of similar parameter scales. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/NEUIR/Uncode.

On the Emotion Understanding of Synthesized Speech

Yuan Ge, Haishu Zhao Northeastern University, AoKai Hao Northeastern University, Junxiang Zhang, Bei Li Meituan, Xiaoqian Liu Northeastern University, Chenglong Wang Northeastern University, Jianjin Wang 等 13 位作者

Emotion is a core paralinguistic feature in voice interaction. It is widely believed that emotion understanding models learn fundamental representations that transfer to synthesized speech, making emotion understanding results a plausible reward or evaluation metric for assessing emotional expressiveness in speech synthesis. In this work, we critically examine this assumption by systematically evaluating Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) on synthesized speech across datasets, discriminative and generative SER models, and diverse synthesis models. We find that current SER models can not generalize to synthesized speech, largely because speech token prediction during synthesis induces a representation mismatch between synthesized and human speech. Moreover, generative Speech Language Models (SLMs) tend to infer emotion from textual semantics while ignoring paralinguistic cues. Overall, our findings suggest that existing SER models often exploit non-robust shortcuts rather than capturing fundamental features, and paralinguistic understanding in SLMs remains challenging.
