AI 速览:Möbius 将扩散生成过程直接放入与运动理解共享的多模态表示空间,在连续帧级原始运动上统一实现运动描述、文本生成运动、时序补全与指令引导编辑。

We aim to build a truly unified motion model that can understand, generate, and edit human motion within a single framework. Existing motion UMMs remain only partially unified: motion understanding is handled by a language model, while generation is often delegated to a separate diffusion module operating over learned motion latents. We introduce Möbius, which brings the entire diffusion process into the same multimodal representation space used for motion understanding. Clean motion, noisy motion, and text jointly participate in shared attention, while role-specific parameters process understanding and generation streams. Importantly, Möbius operates directly on continuous frame-level raw motion, requiring neither discrete tokenization nor a pretrained motion VAE. This simple formulation naturally supports motion captioning, text-to-motion generation, temporal completion, and instruction-guided editing within a single model. On HumanML3D, Möbius achieves state-of-the-art performance among unified motion models. Scaling to 1.7B parameters and 1,700 hours of motion data further demonstrates that our framework is both effective and scalable.

DexArena: A Unified Benchmark for Long-Horizon Dexterous Manipulation

Haonan Ping, Jianshu Hu, Yimin Wang, Yi Zhu, Pai Liang, Qiyan Jin, Qirui Bao, Ying Qian 等 15 位作者

Long-horizon dexterous manipulation remains a fundamental challenge for robot learning, requiring the composition of multiple skills, precise bimanual coordination, generalizable visual understanding, and robust skill transitions. Yet existing manipulation benchmarks largely emphasize isolated skills or support only a limited range of end-effectors, making these capabilities difficult to evaluate systematically. We introduce DexArena, a benchmark designed to evaluate learning and generalization in long-horizon bimanual dexterous manipulation. DexArena features 10 long-horizon tasks and 30 stage-level tasks spanning diverse household and industrial scenarios. Each long-horizon task is composed of explicitly defined stages with physically grounded success conditions, enabling reliable evaluation of both intermediate progress and end-to-end task completion. A unified benchmark interface and verified human-teleoperated demonstrations enable testing different policy learning algorithms, with standardized simulation configurations, scene randomization, trajectory replay, and task-level evaluation. Through extensive baseline experiments, we identify substantial challenges in precise manipulation, generalization to scene variation, and skill composition. DexArena establishes a challenging and reproducible benchmark for developing robot learning methods that move toward generalizable long-horizon dexterous behavior.

Where Do Long Captions Fail? Position-Aware Diagnosis and Reinforcement Learning for Detailed Image Captioning

Yuanze Hu, Zhichao Yang, Junwei Jing, Xin Yang, Wenxuan Liu, Tinghai Zhang, Jia Fu, Hongzhi Zhang 等 12 位作者

Detailed image captioning is usually framed as an amount problem: a model should mention more visual facts while avoiding hallucination. However, autoregressive VLMs generate captions as ordered sequences, and later generations may be produced under weaker or noisier visual grounding. We therefore argue that long-form captioning should be studied not only by what facts are mentioned, but also by where they appear. We introduce a position-aware rubric representation that decomposes dense human references into atomic visual claims, verifies generated captions against those claims, and induces a quartile-wise composition of supported, hallucinated, and generic content. This lens reveals two qualitatively different failures in long captions: models tend to produce unsupported specificity in the middle, while the final portion often escapes into vague, non-evidential language rather than simply accumulating more hallucination. A same-reference human control does not exhibit these patterns; additional human audits examine the visual validity of the induced labels. Motivated by this diagnosis, we propose PAGER (Position-Aware Grounded Evidence Reinforcement), a GRPO training objective with separate signals for supported fine-grained middle evidence, evidence-bearing tail continuation, claim coverage, and content-aware length control. The result is a closed loop: the same ordered claim representation identifies where long captions fail and supplies the position-specific reward needed to repair those failures. Experiments on detailed-caption benchmarks show that PAGER improves position-wise grounding and pairwise caption preference while preserving competitive global caption quality.

ProteoCraft: Protein Design as Proposal-Verification Search

Fang Wu, Hongbin Lin, Bingchen Duan, Yuchen Wang, Li Erran Li, Yanjie Huang, Mingxuan Cao, Yijun Ma 等 27 位作者

Protein-protein interactions underpin nearly all biological processes. Yet, designing proteins with desired interactions remains challenging due to the structural complexity governing molecular recognition. This study views protein design as a search optimization problem over a combinatorial sequence space under expensive structural evaluation. Toward this goal, we introduce a novel tree-based search framework, ProteoCraft, that employs approximate structural gradients from diffusion-based structure predictors as effective proposal policies to specify where the search should explore. Complete no-gradient inference of folding models separately assigns values to the resulting sequences, determining what is good. ProteoCraft allocates this verification budget through a coarse-to-fine paradigm: multi-site edits first explore distinct sequence basins, then verified promising states undergo strict single-site refinement. Across fourteen de novo binder-design settings spanning eight target proteins, five immune-relevant TCR-facing targets, and four localized CDR redesign tasks, ProteoCraft improves design quality and high-confidence yield. These improvements persist under independent AF2-IG and Rosetta-based interface evaluation. Prospective experimental validation further yielded an 82.9% binding hit rate for PD-L1 miniproteins, with a best measured KD of 0.879 nM, and confirmed binding of designed IFNAR2 VHH. Our code is available at https://github.com/smiles724/ProteoCraft_v1.

Benchmarking Generalist and Specialist Time-Series Foundation Models for PPG-Based Health Assessment

Saurabh Kataria, Yi Wu, Zhaoliang Chen, Hyunjung Gloria Kwak, Yuhao Xu, Lovely Yeswanth Panchumarthi, Ran Xiao, Jiaying Lu 等 26 位作者

Time-series Foundation Models (FMs) are pretrained on either heterogeneous corpora or specific signal domains. Using Photoplethysmography (PPG) as a representative modality, we compare generalist time-series FMs, PPG-specialist FMs, and traditional machine learning (ML) baselines for PPG-based health assessment. We conduct a two-stage benchmark. First, we evaluate multiple FM families across 23 downstream evaluations (e.g., atrial fibrillation detection, vital-sign estimation). Second, we conduct a focused four-FM comparison (MOMENT, Chronos-2, GPT-PPG, MOMENT-PPG) at multiple model sizes on an expanded 51-task suite, under both frozen-backbone and full-model tuning, to study tuning strategy, model scaling, and cross-dataset transfer. The multi-model benchmark shows that PPG-specialist FMs achieve the strongest aggregate performance, but their advantage is not uniform: generalist FMs remain competitive on several tasks, and traditional ML baselines outperform FMs on selected clinical regression tasks. The focused analysis shows that the advantage of PPG-specific pretraining appears mainly with frozen backbones and on targets that the waveform directly reflects, such as atrial fibrillation and vital signs. Full-model tuning narrows this advantage, model rankings change with the tuning strategy, and the largest model variant is the best choice in only about one-third of cases. Additionally, controlled experiments with two generalist models show that initializing PPG pretraining from generalist checkpoints provides an early advantage over training from scratch, even when the pretrained features offer little downstream benefit. Together, these findings suggest that PPG-specific pretraining is useful but task-dependent, and that FMs should be evaluated against simpler statistical, traditional ML, and clinical history-based baselines.

Design and Analysis of Pinching-Antenna Systems With Radially Deployed Waveguides (X-PASS)

Wei Jiang, Hans D. Schotten

Pinching-antenna systems (PASS) reconfigure the wireless channel by positioning dielectric antennas along a waveguide. A single waveguide, however, confines its antennas to one line, so that good coverage of an area has relied on several waveguides or waveguide segments with separate feeds. This paper proposes X-PASS, in which a hub feeds radially deployed waveguide arms, one pinching antenna on each, and drives them by arm selection, aggregation or multiplexing. It models the hub with its insertion losses, derives a unified signal-to-noise ratio expression for these three operating modes, and derives in closed form a radius inside which aggregation outperforms selection. Numerical results validate the analysis and compare the coverage of X-PASS with that of the other layouts at equal transmit power.

GC4NC: A Benchmark Framework for Graph Condensation on Node Classification with New Insights

Shengbo Gong, Juntong Ni, Noveen Sachdeva, Carl Yang, Wei Jin

Graph condensation (GC) is an emerging technique designed to learn a significantly smaller graph that retains the essential information of the original graph. This condensed graph has shown promise in accelerating graph neural networks while preserving performance comparable to those achieved with the original, larger graphs. Additionally, this technique facilitates downstream applications like neural architecture search and deepens our understanding of redundancies in large graphs. Despite the rapid development of GC methods, particularly for node classification, a unified evaluation framework is still lacking to systematically compare different GC methods or clarify key design choices for improving their effectiveness. To bridge these gaps, we introduce \textbf{GC4NC}, a comprehensive framework for evaluating diverse GC methods on node classification across multiple dimensions including performance, efficiency, privacy preservation, denoising ability, NAS effectiveness, and transferability. Our systematic evaluation offers novel insights into how condensed graphs behave and the critical design choices that drive their success. These findings pave the way for future advancements in GC methods, enhancing both performance and expanding their real-world applications. Our code is available at https://github.com/Emory-Melody/GraphSlim/tree/main/benchmark.

Lie Routing Vision Language Models for View-Robust 3D Understanding

Jingjun Yi, Chen Hu, Qi Bi, Hao Zheng, Huimin Huang, Yongkang, Wei Ji, Yawen Huang 等 10 位作者

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have made substantial progress in 3D scene understanding from multi-view RGB observations. Yet a fixed object and query can elicit inconsistent target-related responses across camera viewpoints, a phenomenon we characterize as viewpoint-induced semantic drift. We introduce LieVLM, a Lie routing framework for view-robust 3D understanding. Motivated by the rotational component of viewpoint change, Lie routing adapts visual representations by applying local $\mathrm{SO}(3)$ transformations to projected features within learned three-dimensional subspaces. Geometry tokens extracted by VGGT predict local rotation parameters and channel-wise routing coefficients. A closed-form Padé--Cayley map transforms projected visual features, whose identity-relative corrections are projected back and gated into the original visual and geometry features. This design retains the pretrained semantic and direct spatial context while learning view-dependent feature adjustments. Experiments on 3D captioning, grounding, detection, and spatial reasoning show consistent improvements over additive fusion across training scales and backbones. Controlled ablations examine the roles of geometric conditioning and transformation structure. Viewpoint analyses further reveal systematic variation in the predicted routing states alongside more localized target responses and stronger task performance across viewpoint changes.

Training-Free Motion-Corrected 3D Brain MRI Reconstruction via Event-Guided References

Wei Jiang, Hongli Chen, Tianyi Ding, Feng Liu, Nan Ye, Hongfu Sun

Head motion causes artefacts in 3D brain MRI and can bias structural measurements. Model-based correction alternates between image and motion estimation, but artefacts in the reconstructed reference can reinforce motion errors. Learned priors can reduce these artefacts but require pretraining and may add test-time computation. We propose EventMC (event-guided motion correction), a training-free method for interleaved Cartesian acquisitions. It iteratively detects motion events and estimates motion using reference images reconstructed from stable intervals. It then refines the image and motion from low to high spatial frequencies. In a fair comparison in simulation (same reconstruction), EventMC's motion estimates improve mean PSNR by up to 4.0 dB over those of the learning-based MotionTTT. A single run of EventMC is up to 7.5 times faster than MotionTTT with less than half the GPU memory. On in vivo motion-corrupted scans, EventMC achieves similar mean image quality to MotionTTT without any training. Code is available at https://github.com/bayesbreeze/EventMC.

Adaptive Auto-Harness: Sustained Self-Improvement for Agentic System Deployment on Open-Ended Task Streams

Zewen Liu, Zhan Shi, Yisi Sang, Bing He, Minhua Lin, Tianxin Wei, Dakuo Wang, Benoit Dumoulin 等 10 位作者

Auto-harness systems improve LLM agents by adapting prompts, skills, tools, and supporting infrastructure from execution feedback. Sustaining these gains on open-ended task streams requires handling growing histories, heterogeneous tasks, and shifting distributions. We introduce Adaptive Auto-Harness, a unified framework that separates persistent evolution workspaces from deployable harnesses and supports interchangeable evolution procedures. We compare configurations adapted from five prior approaches on recorded streams of prediction markets, security challenges, and event forecasts. With the same Sonnet solver, our full system reaches 80.9\% market all-task accuracy and 50.2\% security Pass@1, versus 22.2\% and 37.2\% without evolution; market accuracy also exceeds a market-following control's 72.0\%. Our analyses show that artifact accumulation does not guarantee sustained gains, and knowledge that transfers across tasks can still lose value as the task distribution changes. Continued evolution can therefore help preserve earlier gains through revision of accumulated knowledge. Code: https://github.com/A-EVO-Lab/a-evolve.

Benign population landscapes do not transfer to empirical risk minimization in nonsmooth optimization

Penghao Wang, Mateo Díaz, Liwei Jiang

Benign landscapes provide a geometric explanation for the success of iterative methods on nonconvex problems arising in data science. The landscape is benign if every local minimizer is global and every other critical point is a strict saddle. For methods that avoid strict saddles, convergence to a critical point therefore implies convergence to a global minimizer. For smooth stochastic optimization, a common strategy for establishing such landscapes proceeds in two steps: $(i)$ establish benign geometry for the population objective---which is often easier to analyze---and $(ii)$ transfer this geometry to the empirical objective using concentration of gradients and Hessians. Recent work has extended saddle-point avoidance guarantees to weakly convex nonsmooth optimization through the notion of active strict saddles. We show, however, that benign population geometry need not transfer to empirical objectives in this setting. Specifically, for robust phase retrieval with Gaussian measurements---a well-studied and highly structured problem---the population objective is benign. Nevertheless, the empirical objective has sharp spurious local minima with probability bounded away from zero as the sample size tends to infinity. This asymptotic probability lower bound is independent of the dimension.

HEARSAYBENCH: Can AI Navigate from Abstract Human Rights to Lived Lives?

Ava Iranmanesh, Sobhan Lotfi, Ali Iranmanesh, Liwei Jiang

As large language models (LLMs) reach users worldwide, personal counseling has emerged as one of their most consequential applications, sometimes in life-critical situations. Yet broader access does not mean equal support. The text these models learn from disproportionately reflects people with the freedom to act, embedding an implicit assumption that users can leave, report, seek help, or appeal. Existing benchmarks largely inherit this assumption, overlooking users whose agency is constrained by structural conditions such as war, statelessness, and displacement. Meanwhile, models are increasingly shaped by normative frameworks such as Constitutional AI, often grounded in ideals like human rights, even as many users live where those rights offer little protection or recourse. We introduce HEARSAYBENCH, a human-authored dataset of 400 test cases with in-region human verification grounded in scenarios where structural barriers stand between a person and the exercise of their rights. Built from United Nations and other human rights reports, the scenarios span over 80 regions and cover social, environmental, and personal constraints. Drawing on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen's Capabilities Approach, HEARSAYBENCH tests whether models can distinguish what a person is formally entitled to do from what they are actually able to do. Across 14 proprietary and open-weight models, every model infers a user's situation more accurately than it advises on it. Stronger models narrow this gap, but their recommendations remain unsafe to follow. Models may understand lives shaped by constraint, yet that knowledge remains hearsay if it cannot translate into advice people can act on. Those people are not alignment's long tail; they are among the users for whom good guidance matters most. HEARSAYBENCH makes this failure measurable, a step toward systems that serve the world as it is rather than as assumed.

TCC-RAG: Temporal Causal Chain-Guided RAG for Temporal Knowledge Graph Question Answering

Xinxun Zhang, Yuxiang Wang, Shanshan Feng, Jun Zhang, Tieyun Qian, Binhang Yuan, Kai Yin, Xiao Yan 等 9 位作者

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have spurred growing interest in temporal knowledge graph question answering (TKGQA). Most existing methods rely on semantic retrieval augmented generation (RAG), which suffers from fundamental limitations in complex temporal reasoning. On the one hand, semantic-based RAG methods struggle to capture the multi-hop causal knowledge required for complex temporal reasoning. On the other hand, these methods introduce excessive redundant knowledge, trapping LLMs in spurious reasoning chains that potentially result in erroneous answers. To address these problems, we propose a Temporal Causal Chain-guided RAG (TCC-RAG) to retrieve a concise yet sufficient set of causal knowledge to support complex temporal reasoning. Specifically, we reformulate the temporal knowledge graph into a multi-view causal cue graph, with causal cues inducing connections that explicitly encode temporal evolution and causal dynamics. Based on the causal cue graph, we construct a query-specific temporal causal chain to guide the retrieval process, enabling the model to focus on a concise set of causally relevant knowledge. Finally, we introduce a causal evidence filter to refine the retrieved knowledge, ensuring its causal consistency with the underlying temporal logic of the query. Experiments show that TCC-RAG achieves substantial performance gains of 10.72% and 8.40% on two TKGQA benchmarks, and delivers a remarkable 62.97% improvement for multi-step temporal reasoning.

Optimal Regret for Communication-Efficient Decentralized Online Learning

Sifan Yang, Wenhao Yang, Wei Jiang, Yuanyu Wan, Lijun Zhang

In this paper, we investigate decentralized online convex optimization with compressed communication, where $n$ learners over a network jointly minimize a sequence of global loss functions based only on their local losses and compressed messages from their neighbors. The best known regret bounds for this problem are $O(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1}\sqrt{T\ln n})$ and $O(ω^{-1}nρ^{-2}\ln n\ln T)$ for convex and strongly convex loss functions, respectively, where $ρ\in(0,1)$ is the spectral gap of the communication matrix and $ω\in(0,1]$ is the compression quality factor. Compared with the corresponding lower bounds of $Ω(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1/4}\sqrt{T})$ and $Ω(ω^{-1}nρ^{-1/2}\ln T)$, these upper bounds exhibit polynomial gaps in their dependence on $ρ^{-1}$. To close these gaps, we first develop Ascent-gossip, which combines an online compression strategy with a Chebyshev recursion and attains a faster consensus rate than existing compressed gossip methods. Furthermore, by adopting Ascent-gossip, we propose an online algorithm that achieves optimal regret bounds of $\widetilde O(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1/4}\sqrt{T})$ and $\widetilde O(ω^{-1}nρ^{-1/2}\ln T)$ for convex and strongly convex loss functions, respectively. Up to logarithmic factors in $n$ and $ρ^{-1}$, these results match the lower bounds in terms of $T$, $n$, $ρ$, and $ω$.

Rethinking Positional Encoding and Interaction Granularity for CTR Prediction

Xinxun Zhang, Yuxiang Wang, Xiaokai Zhou, Jiayue Li, Yi Li, Yue Liu, Jun Zhang, Xiaoling Zhou 等 11 位作者

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction relies on historical behaviors and contextual features to estimate clicks on a target item. Existing Transformer-based CTR models often adopt index-based or temporal positional encodings and token-level causal interaction. However, we observe that most existing positional encodings do not outperform NoPE, while relaxing causal constraints within target-relative temporal groups also yields gains. These observations motivate a fundamental question: what positional encoding and interaction granularity does CTR prediction actually require? To address this question, we propose \textbf{TRIP}, which combines target-aware rank--time positional encoding with temporal-group interaction modeling. Specifically, Factorized Rank Encoding represents each behavior's ordinal position within the historical sequence through a low-rank factorization, while Target-Relative Time Encoding characterizes its temporal distance to the target on a coarse-to-fine scale. This joint design grounds each behavior's positional representation in its sequence context and temporal relation to the current target. Furthermore, Temporal Group-Causal Interaction enriches intra-group representations through bidirectional interaction and masked reconstruction while preserving inter-group causal order. Finally, behavior representations are condensed into compact group summaries for efficient group-level modeling in subsequent layers. Experiments on four public benchmarks show that TRIP improves AUC by up to 4.45\% relative to the strongest baseline.

EvoBench: An Evolving, Diagnostic Benchmark Framework for Environmental Modeling

Yiming Sun, Yuan Zhang, Qi Cheng, Yingda Fan, Runlong Yu, Yiqun Xie, Xiaowei Jia

Machine learning models are now widely used to predict environmental variable dynamics in domains like hydrology, climate science, agriculture, and ecology. These models are usually compared on fixed benchmark datasets using a single average accuracy score. As models improve, their scores become very close when averaged over large regions and long time periods, so the benchmark can no longer tell them apart, and a single number hides \emph{where} and \emph{when} a model fails. Three failures are common across environmental domains: models get worse as the climate shifts (non-stationarity), models fail at unmonitored sites (spatial extrapolation), and models miss rare but important regimes such as floods and droughts. We present \textbf{EvoBench}, a benchmark framework that shows where a model fails, tracks failures over time, and evolves to focus on model capability gaps. We apply EvoBench to daily streamflow prediction as a case study (\textbf{CAMELS-Evolve}, about 9{,}000 U.S. basins, 1985--2024) and compare an operational physical model (NWM), a conceptual reference (HBV), and several data-driven models. No model wins on every testing scenarios (e.g., in terms of average accuracy, performance at low flows and unmonitored basins). Also we observe that all data-driven models under-predict floods. Additionally, we show that targeted fix based on the reported failures could mitigate weaknesses the benchmark identified in certain scenarios. EvoBench turns model evaluation from a saturated ranking into a moving map of model limitations.

Improving Instruction Hierarchy by Learning from Goal-Goal Conflicts

Sizhe Chen, Sanjay Kariyappa, Liwei Jiang, Chong Xiang, Jihye Choi, Chaowei Xiao, G. Edward Suh

The recent incident in which OpenAI agents autonomously compromised Hugging Face's infrastructure illustrates the importance of instruction hierarchy (IH): an LLM should follow lower-priority instructions, such as user requests, only when they do not conflict with higher-priority instructions, such as system policies. IH can be effectively improved by fine-tuning LLMs on simulated examples of instruction conflicts, whose diversity is key to teaching LLMs to properly handle conflicts at test time. However, our decomposition of a task into goals and constraints reveals a conflict type -- goal-goal conflicts -- that is absent from existing IH training sets from OpenAI and NVIDIA. We show the importance of this conflict type: fine-tuning Qwen3.5-9B and Gemma4-12B-it on examples of this conflict type significantly improves IH on a wide range of real-world tasks unseen in training; adding these examples to existing IH training sets for fine-tuning also gives better IH adherence. The IH gains come with trivial mean utility changes on no-conflict tasks across eight benchmarks. Our work advocates including this new conflict type in IH training, even if these examples do not reflect typical LLM use.

TrustJev: Separating Policy Authority from Untrusted Evidence in LLM-Based Decisions

Zhiwei Xu, Xuyang Liu, Xiaolin Peng, Weixian Deng, Jiabao Gao, Zirui Li, Tian Qiu, Boya Zhou 等 11 位作者

Decision models enable software to select from predefined actions using natural language inputs. However, the external evidence that supplies facts for these decisions may also contain instructions that attempt to override the application's policy. We propose TrustJev, a framework combining protected policy scoring with bounded evidence corrections. A single Transformer backbone computes policy scores and a correction budget from trusted policy and candidates, then bounds evidence corrections by that budget. Paired supervision encourages stable predictions under instruction insertions that preserve task facts and changed preferences when edits change the correct answer. Authority supervision accommodates evidence when the policy alone cannot determine the decision. We evaluate a 0.6B implementation against 14 baselines on three datasets covering authentication, instruction hierarchy, and executable authorization rules. TrustJev achieves the highest mean Balance, the harmonic mean of accuracy on non-attack and attack inputs, exceeding the strongest baseline on each by 0.57-1.05 percentage points. In the authorization benchmark, it correctly answers all 32 attacks per source in a fixed pool for 95.77% of sources, compared with 80.98% for the strongest comparator. TrustJev maintains comparable inference memory and median latency, with additional overhead primarily during training.

SADA: Bridging In-Context Learning and Fine-Tuning via State-Aligned Distillation Adapters

Wenhao Gao, Tianlong Wang, Wei Jia Tencent, Linhao Zhang, Aiwei Liu Wechat AI, Miao Fan, Zhou Xiao Pattern recognition center

Prompt-based in-context learning (ICL) and parameter fine-tuning are two dominant paradigms for incorporating external information into large language models (LLMs), but they incur high inference costs or require expensive retraining. To bridge this gap, context-to-parameter mapping converts prompts into temporary adapter weights. However, we identify a critical failure mode in existing methods: hidden-state collapse, where the adapter-augmented model’s internal states diverge sharply from the full-context oracle in deeper layers. We trace this failure to two coupled gaps: suboptimal Input-Selection and inadequate Supervision-Signal. To address these issues, we propose SADA (State-Aligned Distillation Adapters). We establish the attention-block output as a principled feature interface to improve input selection and introduce state-alignment distillation to enforce consistency between the adapter-augmented model and the full-context oracle. Experiments on long-context language modeling (PG19) and downstream NLU and summarization benchmarks show that SADA consistently outperforms strong baselines like StreamAdapter and GenerativeAdapter, achieving performance comparable to ICL while significantly reducing memory footprint and latency. We further analyze when parameterized context compression is effective and when explicit context retention remains preferable. Our code is available at https://github.com/Taylor-Gavel/SADA.git.

SAM3-I: Segment Anything with Instructions

Segment Anything Model 3 (SAM3) advances open-vocabulary segmentation through promptable concept segmentation, enabling users to segment all instances associated with a given concept using short noun-phrase (NP) prompts. While effective for concept-level grounding, real-world interactions often involve far richer natural-language instructions that combine attributes, relations, actions, states, or implicit reasoning. Currently, SAM3 relies on external multi-modal agents to convert complex instructions into NPs and conducts iterative mask filtering, leading to coarse representations and limited instance specificity. In this work, we present SAM3-I, an instruction-following extension of the SAM family that unifies concept-level grounding and instruction-level reasoning within a single segmentation framework. Built upon SAM3, SAM3-I introduces an instruction-aware cascaded adaptation mechanism with dedicated alignment losses that progressively aligns expressive instruction semantics with SAM3’s vision-language representations, enabling direct interpretation of natural-language instructions while preserving its strong concept recall ability. To enable instruction-following learning, we introduce HMPL-Instruct, a large-scale instruction-centric dataset that systematically covers hierarchical instruction semantics and diverse target granularities. Experiments demonstrate that SAM3-I achieves appealing performance across referring and reasoning-based segmentation, showing that SAM3 can be effectively extended to follow complex natural-language instructions without sacrificing its original concept-driven strengths. Code and dataset are available at https://github.com/debby-0527/SAM3-I.

AEA: Adaptive Expert Allocation Improves Sentence Embeddings from Mixture-of-Experts LLM

Extracting embeddings directly from Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models is a promising yet underexplored direction that requires no additional data or fine-tuning. While previous studies have utilized semantic compression prompts or expert routing information to improve sentence embeddings, they typically allocate a fixed number of experts uniformly across all layers and tokens, ignoring inter-layer and inter-token heterogeneity. In this work, we identify two key observations in MoE models: (1) layer-wise variations in expert homogeneity, suggesting that different layers require different expert budgets, and (2) token-wise contribution imbalance, indicating that different tokens should also be allocated different numbers of experts. To address these issues, we propose an Adaptive Expert Allocation (AEA) framework that dynamically performs both layer-wise and token-wise expert allocation to enhance embedding quality. Specifically, AEA allocates fewer experts to layers with higher homogeneity and to tokens with lower attention importance, where layer-wise homogeneity is determined by the similarity among embeddings produced by the experts in each layer. Notably, our method is plug-and-play, seamlessly integrates with existing prompt engineering methods, and introduces no additional time overhead. Experiments on the STS tasks demonstrate that AEA consistently improves embedding quality across multiple MoE models.

Agentic Test-Time Scaling (TTS) has delivered state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on complex software engineering tasks such as code generation and bug fixing. However, its practical adoption remains limited due to significant computational overhead, primarily driven by two key challenges: (1) the high cost associated with deploying excessively large ensembles, and (2) the lack of a reliable mechanism for selecting the optimal candidate solution—ultimately constraining the performance gains that can be realized. To address these challenges, we propose Entropy-Guided Stepwise Scaling (EGSS), a novel TTS framework that dynamically balances efficiency and effectiveness through entropy-guided adaptive search and robust test-suite augmentation.Extensive experiments on SWE-Bench-Verified demonstrate that EGSS consistently boosts performance by 5–10% across all evaluated models. Specifically, it increases the resolved ratio of Kimi-K2-Intruct from 63.2% to 72.2%, and GLM-4.6 from 65.8% to 74.6%. Furthermore, when paired with GLM-4.6, EGSS achieves new state-of-the-art among open-source large language models. In addition to these accuracy improvements, EGSS reduces inference-time token usage by over 28% compared to existing TTS methods, achieving simultaneous gains in both effectiveness and computational efficiency.

Mobile-R1: Towards Interactive Capability for VLM-Based Mobile Agent via Systematic Training

Vision-language model-based mobile agents have gained the ability to understand complex instructions and mobile screenshots, benefiting from reinforcement learning paradigms like Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO). However, existing approaches centers on offline training or local action-level rewards often trap agents in local optima, hindering effective exploration and error correction with the environment. Crucially, we find that directly applying task-level rewards often leads to convergence difficulties due to the sparse nature of GUI interactions. To address these challenges, we present Mobile-R1, a systematic training recipe that bridges atomic action execution and strategic task completion. We propose a hierarchical curriculum consisting of three stages: (1) format alignment for reasoning structure, (2) on-policy exploration with verifiable action feedback to ground basic execution, and (3) multi-turn task-level training with realistic environment to unlock exploration and self-correction. This hierarchical strategy effectively bootstraps the agent, significantly enhancing its capability for exploration and self-correction (the “Eureka” moments). Furthermore, addressing the critical scarcity of diverse GUI data in non-English ecosystems, we contribute a comprehensive Chinese mobile dataset covering 28 applications with 24,521 high-quality manual annotations, and establish a rigorous benchmark with 500 trajectories. We will open source all resources, including the dataset, benchmark, model weight, and codes: https://mobile-r1.github.io/Mobile-R1/.

Recent advances in Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have enabled mobile agents to perceive and interact with real-world mobile environments based on human instructions. However, the current fully autonomous paradigm poses potential safety risks when model understanding or reasoning capabilities are insufficient. To address this challenge, we first introduce InquireBench, a comprehensive benchmark specifically designed to evaluate mobile agents’ capabilities in safe interaction and proactive inquiry with users, encompassing 5 categories and 22 sub-categories, where most existing VLM-based agents demonstrate near-zero performance. In this paper, we aim to develop an interactive system that actively seeks human confirmation at critical decision points. To achieve this, we propose InquireMobile, a novel model inspired by reinforcement learning, featuring a two-stage training strategy and an interactive pre-action reasoning mechanism. Finally, our model achieves an 46.8% improvement in inquiry success rate and the best overall success rate among existing baselines on InquireBench. The project page is available at https://bit-aqh.github.io/InquireMobile/homepage/.

AdaMix: Adaptive Mixing for Short and Long Reasoning Adapters

Hao Luo Wuhan University, Xiao Yan Wuhan University, Xinyan Li, Qiming Zeng Wuhan University, Yuhao Lin, Shanshan Feng Wuhan University and The Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Hao Wang Wuhan University, Jiawei Jiang Wuhan University

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have achieved remarkable success on complex tasks by generating detailed Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning. However, they tend to apply a uniform, computation-intensive deep reasoning strategy to all problems, leading to unnecessary overhead on simple tasks. This significantly hinders their efficiency in real-world applications. While existing methods have improved reasoning efficiency to some extent, they still face critical challenges such as conflicting objectives, limited adaptability. To address these limitations, we propose AdaMix, an adaptive reasoning framework via decoupled optimization. To mitigate optimization conflicts, AdaMix first constructs two specialized adapters: an efficiency-oriented short adapter and an accuracy-oriented long adapter. It then incorporates a difficulty-aware routing model that assesses problem complexity to predict a reasoning intensity coefficient. This coefficient is used to dynamically interpolate a mixed adapter from the two base adapters, enabling fine-grained reasoning control. Our experiment demonstrates that our AdaMix reduces the average response length of DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-7B by 54.9% while improving accuracy by up to 4.8% on five mathematical datasets, thus indicating a favorable accuracy-efficiency trade-off.

Recent advances in reasoning models have demonstrated remarkable capabilities on mathematical and coding tasks. However, their effectiveness in embodied domains, where the agent must continuously interact with environments and process observation-action interleaved trajectories, remains largely unexplored. We present Embodied-Reasoner, a reasoning model for interactive embodied tasks. Unlike mathematical reasoning that relies primarily on logical deduction, embodied scenarios demand spatial understanding, temporal reasoning, and ongoing self-reflection based on interaction history. To address these challenges, we synthesize 9.3k coherent Observation-Thought-Action trajectories containing 64k ego-centric images and 90k diverse reasoning processes (analysis, spatial reasoning, reflection, planning, and verification). We develop a three-stage training recipe that progressively enhances the model’s capabilities through imitation learning, rejection sampling tuning on self-exploration trajectories, and reflection tuning. The evaluation shows that our model significantly outperforms advanced visual reasoning models, e.g., exceeds OpenAI o1, o3-mini, and Claude-3.7 by +9%, 24%, and +13%. Analysis reveals that our model exhibits fewer repeated searches and logical inconsistencies, with particular advantages in complex long-horizon tasks. Real-world testing further validates the effectiveness of our approach.

VisPCO: Visual Token Pruning Configuration Optimization via Budget-Aware Pareto-Frontier Learning for Vision-Language Models

Huawei Ji, Yuanhao Sun, Yuan Jin, Cheng Deng University of Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh, Jiaxin Ding Shanghai Jiaotong University, Luoyi Fu, Xinbing Wang Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Visual token pruning methods effectively mitigate the quadratic computational growth caused by processing high-resolution images and video frames in vision-language models (VLMs). However, existing approaches rely on predefined pruning configurations without determining whether they achieve computation-performance optimality. In this work, we introduce , a novel framework that formulates visual token pruning as a Pareto configuration optimization problem to automatically identify optimal configurations. Our approach employs continuous relaxation and straight-through estimators to enable gradient-based search, solved via the Augmented Lagrangian method. Extensive experiments across 8 visual benchmarks demonstrate that effectively approximates the empirical Pareto frontier obtained through grid search and generalizes well across various pruning methods and VLM architectures. Furthermore, through learnable kernel functions, we investigate layer-wise pruning patterns and reveal that multi-step progressive pruning captures VLMs’ hierarchical compression structure, achieving superior accuracy-efficiency trade-offs compared to single-layer approaches.

Focusing Condition: Inference-Time Self-Contrastive Steering Elicits Better Conditional Text Embeddings in LLMs

Zifeng Cheng Nanjing University, Lingyun Qian, Zhiwei Jiang Nanjing University, Cong Wang Nanjing University, Yafeng Yin Nanjing University, Fei Shen National University of Singapore and Tencent, Ao Zhou, Qing Gu Nanjing University

Extracting conditional text embeddings from large language models (LLMs) is a promising paradigm, as it requires neither additional data nor fine-tuning. Existing methods incorporate conditions into prompts to guide LLMs to focus on specific aspects and elicit conditional text embeddings. However, relying solely on prompts often fails to produce high-quality conditional text embeddings, as they remain entangled with general text embeddings, ultimately degrading their quality. To this end, we propose an inference-time, plug-and-play Self-Contrastive Steering (SCS) method that constructs unconditional general text embeddings and uses them to refine conditional text embeddings, making them more focused on the target condition. Specifically, we modify the attention mask and positional encodings to mask the condition, thereby obtaining unconditional text embeddings and intervening in the multi-head self-attention computation process. Notably, our method is highly efficient, requiring only a single additional multi-head self-attention computation at inference time. Extensive experiments on clustering, Semantic Textual Similarity, and triplet alignment datasets demonstrate that our method can seamlessly improve the performance of existing prompt-based methods across different LLMs in a training-free and plug-and-play manner.

STReasoner: Empowering LLMs for Spatio-Temporal Reasoning in Time Series via Spatial-Aware Reinforcement Learning

Juntong Ni, Shiyu Wang ByteDance Inc., Qi He, Ming Jin Griffith University, Wei Jin Emory University

Spatio-temporal reasoning in time series involves the explicit synthesis of temporal dynamics, spatial dependencies, and textual context. This capability is vital for high-stakes decision-making in systems such as traffic networks, power grids, and disease propagation. However, the field remains underdeveloped because most existing works prioritize predictive accuracy over reasoning. To address the gap, we introduce ST-Bench, a benchmark consisting of four core tasks, including etiological reasoning, entity identification, correlation reasoning, and in-context forecasting, developed via a network SDE-based multi-agent data synthesis pipeline. We then propose STReasoner, a model that integrates time series, graph structure, and text for explicit reasoning. To promote spatially grounded logic, we introduce S-GRPO, a reinforcement learning algorithm that rewards performance gains specifically attributable to spatial information. Experiments show that STReasoner achieves average accuracy gains between 17% and 135% at only 0.004x the cost of proprietary models and generalizes robustly to real-world data.

Gemini 1.5: Unlocking multimodal understanding across millions of tokens of context

Gemini Team, Petko Georgiev, Ving Ian Lei, Ryan Burnell, Libin Bai, Anmol Gulati, Garrett Tanzer, Damien Vincent 等 1137 位作者

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.
