MLLM-GS: Multimodal Large Language Model Prior-Guided Fast Novel View Synthesis in Extreme Environments

Zhiliang Wu, Xinye Zheng, Kun Li, Fei Wang, Hao Guo, Yanyan Wei, Guanghui Yue, Beier Zhu 等 10 位作者

Novel view synthesis (NVS) in degraded scenes aims to reconstruct 3D scenes from multi-view observations affected by various degradations, and to generate clear and photorealistic images at unseen viewpoints. Despite recent advances, existing methods often rely on degradation-specific models, limiting their generalization across diverse extreme environments. Generative models provide rich visual priors, but their outputs often suffer from pixel misalignment and color deviations, which can propagate into the reconstructed 3D scene and compromise reconstruction quality. Furthermore, the high computational and memory costs of 3D reconstruction hinder the practical application of NVS in extreme environments. To this end, we propose MLLM-GS, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) prior-guided framework for fast NVS in extreme environments. MLLM-GS consists of two branches: MLLM prior-guided view enhancement and fast 3D scene reconstruction. The former leverages the rich visual priors of a frozen MLLM to enhance views under different severe degradations and introduces a lightweight correction network to reduce pixel shifts and color distortions in MLLM outputs. With supervision from only a few paired clean views, this branch produces reliable enhanced views for all degraded observations, providing pseudo-GT views for subsequent 3D reconstruction. The latter improves 3DGS efficiency by optimizing rasterization, Gaussian memory layout, and parameter updates, reducing redundant computation, memory-access overhead, and optimization costs. Extensive experiments on multiple degraded scenes demonstrate that MLLM-GS effectively handles various severe degradations and achieves high-quality NVS with significantly lower reconstruction time and memory consumption. Cord: Confidence-Anchored Order Residual Decoding for Masked Diffusion Language Models

Chengwei Zhou, Zhaoyan Jia, Massoud Pedram, Gourav Datta

The decoding order of masked diffusion language models (dLLMs) can substantially affect generation quality, yet common decoders typically apply the same reveal rule throughout generation. Confidence provides a strong default, but it measures how decisively a position can be predicted now, not how useful revealing that position will be for subsequent decoding. We propose Cord, a lightweight prompt-conditioned policy that retains confidence decoding as a stable reference and learns when and how to depart from it through geometric residuals over generation direction, proximity to revealed context, and two-sided infilling. The residuals adapt to both the prompt and the evolving partial response. Rather than sampling a new policy action at every decoding step, Cord samples a single low-dimensional coefficient matrix per rollout, which induces an entire state-dependent reveal trajectory. This yields a contextual-bandit formulation trained directly from sequence-level rewards, without step-level credit assignment or backbone updates. Across three dLLMs and five reasoning, code, and constraint-satisfaction benchmarks, Cord improves average task success from 32.0% under confidence decoding to 48.2%, and further improves over the best per-domain fixed residual. Behavioral audits show that the learned residuals induce substantial, task-dependent changes in reveal locality and two-sided infilling. Cord adds only $0.53$M trainable parameters, requires no additional backbone forward passes, and incurs only 5.39% inference latency overhead.

Two Birds with One Stone: Skill-Augmented Generation via Unified Retrieval and Utilization

Zihan Luo, Jiahui Kang, Wei Zhou, Qilin Fan, Mingyan Li, Chao Chen

Skills, as reusable external knowledge, have demonstrated substantial potential to enhance the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex tasks. However, existing skill-augmented generation methods typically rely on separate models for skill retrieval and skill utilization, resulting in disconnected optimization of these two processes. To address this gap, we propose Skill-Uni, a unified reinforcement learning framework that jointly optimizes skill retrieval and utilization. Specifically, we adopt a generative skill retrieval paradigm that enables a single model to both learn how to retrieve relevant skills and leverage them for task solving. To effectively train this unified framework, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of warm-up instruction tuning and GRPO, allowing the model to progressively improve its skill retrieval and utilization capabilities. Extensive experiments on five skill-related benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of Skill-Uni, yielding average performance gains of 66.59% and 34.82% over the base Qwen3-4B and LLaMA3.1-8B models, respectively. Besides, Skill-Uni is compatible with various skill retrieval engines, demonstrating its flexibility and generalizability. Additional in-depth analyses also provide insights into the effectiveness of Skill-Uni.

Does Your Generalist Skill Optimizer Really Incentivize Agentic Tasks? Rethinking Skill Optimization via Bipartite Attribution

Jiawei Zhou, Bo Peng, Yuxuan Huang, Ming Zhang, Youbang Sun, Xiang Wang, Chaochao Lu

Skill optimizers adapt an agent to long-horizon tasks, such as repairing a terminal environment, by rewriting its skill, a natural-language procedure in its context, and keeping the edits that raise success on a small dev set. On such tasks success is noisy, so a gain on a small dev set does not show that an edit helps, and a success score does not show what the edit costs. We introduce BiPA, which replays an optimizer's acceptance rule on candidates identical to its seed to measure what selection alone reports, and records each episode as a bipartite graph of turns and the text they read to trace extra input tokens to the behavior behind them. Across three optimizers, three agentic benchmarks and two models, the learned skills succeed about as often as their hand-written seed, 0.1 points higher on average. Their dev gains vanish on test: keeping the best of several candidates on at most 30 tasks reports gains this large even when none changed. They read about 16% more input tokens: the optimizers almost always add rules, half to re-check work and some to act one call at a time, and the agent follows them as extra turns, each re-sending the whole conversation. Four principles follow: accept an edit only if its gain exceeds what selection alone reports; charge it for the turns it adds, not for its length; let the editor delete and merge rules; show it what earlier rules cost. Code is available at https://github.com/valleysprings/BiPA.git.

Edhivo: An AI-Native Platform for Scalable Assessment and Instant Feedback in Higher Education

Moraish Kapoor, Jiawei Zhou

Scaling assessment in higher education faces two intertwined bottlenecks: the cognitive burden of authoring assessments and the inability to semantically evaluate open-ended responses, which together create a persistent feedback gap that hinders student learning outcomes. To address these challenges, we present Edhivo, an AI-native pedagogical platform that addresses both bottlenecks through a vertically integrated system for content delivery, assessment, and reporting. Edhivo employs a Dual-LLM pipeline: one model generates context-aware assessments for both multiple-choice and open-ended questions, from instructor-provided materials, while a second model performs multi-criteria, rubric-based evaluation of student responses, enabling near-instant qualitative feedback at multiple hierarchical levels. All AI interactions are source-grounded to reduce hallucination risk, and a Human-in-the-Loop review process preserves instructor authority. We demonstrate Edhivo's efficacy through a pilot deployment at Stony Brook University in a real classroom environment in 2026 spring, where it supports high-frequency assessment creation and evaluation for a cohort of 36 students throughout a full semester, significantly reducing authoring effort and feedback latency while enabling novel pedagogical designs centered on active learning.

Commanding at the Speed of Sound: Audio-Centric Referring Expression Segmentation for Aerial Scenes

Ziyun Chen, Yijun Wang, Chuanyi Zhang, Liang Yao, Yuexuan An, Xiang Gu, Wei Zhou, Fan Liu

Referring expression segmentation (RES) aims to localize targets at the pixel level guided by human instructions. However, current models predominantly follow a text-centric paradigm that treats discrete text as the primary interaction medium for these human instructions. This assumption is especially limiting in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications, where rapid response, hands-free operation, and natural communication are often critical. In this paper, we reconstruct UAV referring expression segmentation through an audio-centric perspective. Grounded in information theory, we demonstrate that raw audio provides a higher upper bound for extracting rich semantic features than transcribed text. To achieve this, we construct an audio-driven UAV referring expression segmentation benchmark named Aerial-AudioRES by augmenting VisDrone with synthesized speech, forming "audio-text-image-mask" quadruples. Specifically, we employ an ambiguity filtering mechanism to ensure referential uniqueness, and incorporate eight distinct timbres alongside 4 realistic noises to simulate authentic environments. To drive the paradigm shift from text-centric to audio-centric, we propose the end-to-end Audio-centric Referring Expression Segmentation Network (ARES-Net). Distinct from discrete text-visual matching, our approach learns to establish a direct soft alignment between continuous acoustic manifolds and multi-scale visual representations. Comprehensive experiments show that our method obtains a peak accuracy of 64.23% in oIoU and demonstrates robust generalization on a collected real-human test set. Furthermore, it significantly reduces total interaction latency to one-third of the text-based method. Our code is available at https://github.com/LemonGauss/ARES-Net.

Shared-Factor-Conditioned Diffusion for Low-Rank Tensor Recovery

Zhengyun Cheng, Guanwen Zhang, Wei Zhou

Tensor recovery spans heterogeneous data structures and observation processes, calling for a representation that can adapt across modalities and tasks. We propose DiffTR, an unsupervised framework that unifies tensor completion, denoising, and hyperspectral super-resolution through coordinate-conditioned diffusion. Shared factors indexed by tensor coordinates condition a compact score network, and score matching jointly learns the factors and an implicit tensor representation from the available observations. Scalar and vector-valued outputs accommodate individual entries and entire tubes, enabling a common formulation for tabular tensors, images, and videos. The framework separates representation learning from task-specific observation modeling: reverse diffusion recovers missing values; estimation via Tweedie's formula, soft thresholding, and optional spatial consistency support mixed-noise denoising; and measurement-guided sampling transfers a prior learned from low-resolution hyperspectral observations to high-resolution reconstruction, followed by post-sampling refinement with data consistency and spectral subspace regularization. This separation makes the representation compatible with different corruption models and permits task-specific constraints to be incorporated within the same recovery framework. Experiments across multiple tensor modalities and recovery tasks demonstrate competitive reconstruction quality and the flexibility of a unified conditional generative representation. The code is available at https://github.com/CZY-Code/DiffTR

PhyVer: Physics-Grounded Material Claim Verification with Multi-Fidelity Physical Evidence

Jianpeng Chen, Wangzhi Zhan Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Haohui Wang, Brian Mayer Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Dongqi Fu Meta, Dawei Zhou Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Material claims in papers, patents, etc., often involve physical feasibility (e.g., stability under conditions, property consistency), not just textual feasibility. Yet most claim verifiers operate over language, therefore producing ungrounded judgments. On the other hand, directfirst-principles verification (e.g., density functional theory, DFT) is inflexible and hard to invoke from underspecified free-form claims. Therefore, we introduce PhyVer, a physics-grounded material claim verification system that bridges this gap by translating claimsinto multi-fidelity physical evidence and interpretable verdicts. To support human-in-the-loop inspection, we present an interactive web interface that visualizes the instantiated structure, optimization trajectories, DFT summaries, and the final decision. On expert-labeled claims, PhyVer improves agreement with experts over text-only GPT-5.1, reducing MAE from 1.54 to 1.20 and Signed MAE from0.95 to 0.82, and increasing Accuracy@±1 from 50% to 70%.

HAD: HAllucination Detection Language Models Based on a Comprehensive Hallucination Taxonomy

Fan Xu, Xinyu Hu, Zhenghan Yu, Li Lin, Xu Zhang, Yang Zhang, Wei Zhou, Jinjie Gu 等 9 位作者

The increasing reliance on natural language generation (NLG) models, particularly large language models, has raised concerns about the reliability and accuracy of their outputs. A key challenge is hallucination, where models produce plausible but incorrect information. As a result, hallucination detection has become a critical task. In this work, we introduce a comprehensive hallucination taxonomy with 11 categories across various NLG tasks and propose the HAllucination Detection (HAD) models, which integrate hallucination detection, span-level identification, and correction into a single inference process. Trained on an elaborate synthetic dataset of about 90K samples, our HAD models are versatile and can be applied to various NLG tasks. We also carefully annotate a test set for hallucination detection, called HADTest, which contains 2,248 samples. Evaluations on in-domain and out-of-domain test sets show that our HAD models generally outperform the existing baselines, achieving state-of-the-art results on HaluEval, FactCHD, and FaithBench, confirming their robustness and versatility.

STAPO: Selective Trajectory-Aware Policy Optimization for LLM Agent Training

Qiuyi Qi Zhejiang University, Tian Liang Zhejiang University, Mutian Bao Zhejiang University, Jinjian Zhang Ant Group, Dongnan Liu Ant Group, Wei Zhou, Linjian Mo Ant Group, Ming Kong Zhejiang University 等 11 位作者

Reinforcement Learning (RL) is the dominant paradigm for training Large Language Model (LLM) agents on long-horizon tasks. However, sparse and delayed rewards often lead to trajectory neglect, in which agents lose focus on the task goal and interaction history at intermediate steps. Prior work has explored step-level supervision using Shannon-entropy–based uncertainty signals, which conflate inherent state complexity with agent confidence and therefore provide unreliable estimates of decision reliability. To address this issue, we propose normalized entropy, which measures confidence deviations relative to an agent’s average behavior under a given state, thereby strengthening the association between low-quality actions and trajectory neglect. Building on this insight, we introduce Selective Trajectory-Aware Policy Optimization (STAPO), a hierarchical group-based RL framework. STAPO leverages normalized entropy to locate outlier steps associated with trajectory neglect and optimizes them via a joint mechanism of trajectory-aware reward and trajectory-independent penalty, enhancing trajectory awareness while preserving training stability. Extensive experiments on ALFWorld, WebShop, and Search-Augmented QA demonstrate that STAPO achieves state-of-the-art performance while substantially alleviating trajectory neglect, validating its effectiveness and robustness for agentic tasks.

Omni-I2C: A Holistic Benchmark for High-Fidelity Image-to-Code Generation

Jiawei Zhou, Chi Zhang Wuhan University, Xiang Feng Wuhan University, Qiming Zhang, Haibo Qiu Meituan, Lihuo He Xidian University, Dengpan Ye Guangzhou University, Xinbo Gao Xidian University 等 9 位作者

We present Omni-I2C, a comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate the capability of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) in converting complex, structured digital graphics into executable code. We argue that this task represents a non-trivial challenge for the current generation of LMMs: it demands an unprecedented synergy between high-fidelity visual perception—to parse intricate spatial hierarchies and symbolic details—and precise generative expression—to synthesize syntactically sound and logically consistent code. Unlike traditional descriptive tasks, Omni-I2C requires a holistic understanding where any minor perceptual hallucination or coding error leads to a complete failure in visual reconstruction. Omni-I2C features 1130 meticulously curated samples, defined by its breadth across subjects, image modalities, and programming languages. By incorporating authentic user-sourced cases, the benchmark spans a vast spectrum of digital content—from scientific visualizations to complex symbolic notations—each paired with executable reference code. To complement this diversity, our evaluation framework provides necessary depth; by decoupling performance into perceptual fidelity and symbolic precision, it transcends surface-level accuracy to expose the granular structural failures and reasoning bottlenecks of current LMMs. Our evaluation reveals a substantial performance gap among leading LMMs; even state-of-the-art models struggle to preserve structural integrity in complex scenarios, underscoring that multimodal code generation remains a formidable challenge. Data and code are available at https://github.com/MiliLab/Omni-I2C.

UrbanGeoEval: A City-Scale Benchmark for Evaluating Large Language Models in Geospatial Reasoning

Mutian Bao Zhejiang University, Qiuyi Qi Zhejiang University, Tian Liang Zhejiang University, Jinjian Zhang Ant Group, Wei Zhou, Ming Kong Zhejiang University, Linjian Mo Ant Group, Qiang Zhu Zhejiang University

Current evaluations of geospatial reasoning in LLMs are frequently impeded by the entanglement of factual recall and spatial logic, which often obscures the models’ true capabilities in complex city-scale environments. To address this, we introduce UrbanGeoEval, a comprehensive benchmark featuring a dual-module framework designed to disentangle these competencies. The Knowledge Module assesses urban memory via scalable map-based queries, while the Reasoning Module isolates pure logical inference across 3,148 realistic tasks by providing necessary geospatial context. Unlike prior benchmarks that hand the model pre-computed spatial text, UrbanGeoEval provides raw geometry and forces the model to act as a spatial computing engine. Our evaluation methodology introduces a reliable hybrid pipeline that merges deterministic programmatic checks with an LLM-as-a-Judge, achieving expert-level evaluation accuracy. Extensive experiments on 18 widely used LLMs uncover critical insights: (1) models exhibit severe geographic biases and resolution gaps; (2) failures in complex multi-hop tasks often stem from brittle foundational spatial skills rather than high-level logic deficits. UrbanGeoEval provides a precise diagnostic tool for advancing urban geospatial intelligence in LLMs.

What’s Left Unsaid? Detecting and Correcting Misleading Omissions in Multimodal News Previews

Fanxiao Li, Jiaying Wu National University of Singapore, Tingchao Fu, Dayang Li, Herun Wan, Wei Zhou Yunnan University, Min-Yen Kan National University of Singapore

Even when factually correct, social-media news previews (image-headline pairs) can induce interpretation drift: by selectively omitting crucial context, they lead readers to form judgments that diverge from what the full article supports. This covert harm is subtler than explicit misinformation, yet remains underexplored. To address this gap, we develop a multi-stage pipeline that simulates preview-based and context-based understanding, enabling construction of the MM-Misleading benchmark. Using MM-Misleading, we systematically evaluate open-source LVLMs and uncover pronounced blind spots in omission-based misleadingness detection. We further propose OMGuard, which combines (1) Interpretation-Aware Fine-Tuning for misleadingness detection and (2) Rationale-Guided Misleading Content Correction, where explicit rationales guide headline rewriting to reduce misleading impressions. Experiments show that OMGuard lifts an 8B model’s detection accuracy to the level of a 235B LVLM while delivering markedly stronger end-to-end correction. Further analysis shows that misleadingness usually arises from local narrative shifts, such as missing background, instead of global frame changes, and identifies image-driven cases where text-only correction fails, underscoring the need for visual interventions.

Mem2ActBench: A Benchmark for Evaluating Long-Term Memory Utilization in Task-Oriented Autonomous Agents

Yiting Shen, Kun Li Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wei Zhou Institute of Information Engeering, Songlin Hu

Large Language Model (LLM)-based agents are increasingly deployed for complex, tool-based tasks where long-term memory is critical to driving actions. Existing benchmarks, however, primarily test an agent’s ability to passively retrieve isolated facts in response to explicit questions. They fail to evaluate the more crucial capability of actively applying memory to execute tasks. To address this gap, we introduce Mem2ActBench, a benchmark for evaluating whether agents can proactively leverage long-term memory to execute tool-based actions by selecting appropriate tools and grounding their parameters. The benchmark simulates persistent assistant usage, where users mention the same topic across long, interrupted interactions and expect previously established preferences and task states to be implicitly applied. We build the dataset with an automated pipeline that merges heterogeneous sources (ToolACE, BFCL, OASST1), resolves conflicts via consistency modeling, and synthesizes 2,029 sessions with 12 user–assistant–tool turns on average. From these memory chains, a reverse-generation method produces 400 tool-use tasks, with human evaluation confirming 91.3% are strongly memory-dependent. Experiments on seven memory frameworks show that current systems remain inadequate at actively utilizing memory for parameter grounding, highlighting the need for more effective approaches to evaluate and improve memory application in task execution. Code and data are available at https://github.com/Cantaloupe-M/Mem2ActBench.

ARK: Answer-Centric Retriever Tuning via KG-augmented Curriculum Learning

Jiawei Zhou Fudan University, Hang Ding, Haiyun Jiang Shanghai Jiaotong University

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) has emerged as a powerful framework for knowledge-intensive tasks, yet its effectiveness in long-context scenarios is often bottlenecked by the retriever’s inability to distinguish sparse yet crucial evidence. Standard retrievers, optimized for query-document similarity, frequently fail to align with the downstream goal of generating a precise answer. To bridge this gap, we propose a novel fine-tuning framework that optimizes the retriever for Answer Alignment. Specifically, we first identify high-quality positive chunks by evaluating their sufficiency to generate the correct answer. We then employ a curriculum-based contrastive learning scheme to fine-tune the retriever. This curriculum leverages LLM-constructed Knowledge Graphs (KGs) to generate augmented queries, which in turn mine progressively challenging hard negatives. This process trains the retriever to distinguish the answer-sufficient positive chunks from these nuanced distractors, enhancing its generalization. Extensive experiments on 10 datasets from the Ultradomain and LongBench benchmarks demonstrate that our fine-tuned retriever achieves state-of-the-art performance, improving 14.5% over the base model without substantial architectural modifications and maintaining strong efficiency for long-context RAG. Our work presents a robust and effective methodology for building truly answer-centric retrievers.

Correct When Paired, Wrong When Split: Decoupling and Editing Modality-Specific Neurons in MLLMs

Tingchao Fu, Wenkai Wang, Fanxiao Li, Huadong Zhang, Jinhong Zhang, Dayang Li, Yunyun Dong, Renyang Liu National University of Singapore 等 9 位作者

Although Knowledge Editing provides an efficient mechanism for updating the knowledge of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), we find that current paradigms still suffer from an important yet remain underexplored issue : editing decoupling failure, where entity-related knowledge can be updated when the model is triggered by multimodal inputs (text–image query pairs), however, it often reverts to outdated pre-edit facts when the paired inputs are split into unimodal ones. Our in-depth empirical analysis reveals that the entity knowledge in MLLMs is not stored as a unified representation, but is instead distributed across disentangled modality-specific pathways. As a result, updates biased toward multimodal queries fail to propagate effectively to unimodal circuits. To bridge this gap, we propose DECODE, which explicitly disentangles and localizes modality-specific neuron groups for targeted knowledge. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DECODE consistently achieves effective knowledge updates under different modality triggers, thereby mitigating editing decoupling failures.

Table Question Answering in the Era of Large Language Models: A Comprehensive Survey of Tasks, Methods, and Evaluation

Wei Zhou, Bolei Ma, Annemarie Friedrich, Mohsen Mesgar BCAI, Bosch Center for AI

Table Question Answering (TQA) aims to answer natural language questions using tabular data, often accompanied by additional contexts, such as passages. The task spans diverse settings, varying in table representation, question/answer complexity, modality involved, and domain. While recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have driven substantial progress for TQA, the field still lacks a systematic organization and understanding of task formulations, core challenges, and methodological trends, particularly in light of emerging research directions, such as reinforcement learning. This survey addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive and structured overview of TQA research using LLMs. We introduce various task setups and summarize available benchmarks based on task features. We categorize current modeling strategies according to the challenges they target, and analyze their strengths and limitations. Furthermore, we highlight underexplored but timely topics that have not been systematically covered in prior surveys. By unifying disparate research threads and identifying open problems, our survey offers a consolidated foundation for the TQA community, enabling a deeper understanding of the state of the art and guiding future developments in this rapidly evolving area.

AutoResearchClaw: Self-Reinforcing Autonomous Research with Human-AI Collaboration

Jiaqi Liu, Shi Qiu, Mairui Li, Bingzhou Li, Haonian Ji, Siwei Han, Xinyu Ye, Peng Xia 等 36 位作者

Automating scientific discovery requires more than generating papers from ideas. Real research is iterative: hypotheses are challenged from multiple perspectives, experiments fail and inform the next attempt, and lessons accumulate across cycles. Existing autonomous research systems often model this process as a linear pipeline: they rely on single-agent reasoning, stop when execution fails, and do not carry experience across runs. We present AutoResearchClaw, a multi-agent autonomous research pipeline built on five mechanisms: structured multi-agent debate for hypothesis generation and result analysis, a self-healing executor with a \textsc{Pivot}/\textsc{Refine} decision loop that transforms failures into information, verifiable result reporting that prevents fabricated numbers and hallucinated citations, human-in-the-loop collaboration with seven intervention modes spanning full autonomy to step-by-step oversight, and cross-run evolution that converts past mistakes into future safeguards. On ARC-Bench, a 25-topic experiment-stage benchmark, AutoResearchClaw outperforms AI Scientist v2 by 54.7%. A human-in-the-loop ablation across seven intervention modes reveals that precise, targeted collaboration at high-leverage decision points consistently outperforms both full autonomy and exhaustive step-by-step oversight. We position AutoResearchClaw as a research amplifier that augments rather than replaces human scientific judgment. Code is available at https://github.com/aiming-lab/AutoResearchClaw.
