AI 速览:RFW-A 将智能体程序合成与程序化生成结合,先由智能体构建并验证类别级可复用生成器,再以程序化执行低成本批量产出铰接资产,并构建了 RFW-A-400K 数据集。

High-quality articulated assets are essential for embodied perception, simulation, and manipulation, yet constructing them at scale remains difficult. Manual annotation and procedural modeling require substantial human effort. Recent agentic systems automate asset construction through program synthesis, but repeat costly reasoning and refinement for every new asset. Our key observation is that assets within a category can share construction logic despite variations in structure and appearance. Agentic synthesis and procedural generation are therefore complementary: agents can construct reusable programs, while procedural execution reuses the resulting logic across many samples. We therefore present RFW-A, which combines the two in a new articulated-asset generation paradigm. Starting from existing articulated programs, RFW-A organizes reusable components and their dependencies into category-level generators. Agents test and refine these generators across sampled configurations and motion states. Once constructed and validated, the generators produce diverse assets through procedural execution with no further model calls or token charges. The estimated API cost of generator authoring averages $10.62, amortizing to $0.05 per asset over 200 assets, versus $1.24 for the sampled per-asset agentic synthesis baseline. Using RFW-A, we built RFW-A-400K, containing over 400K sim-ready articulated assets across more than 500 categories. Experiments show high structural and kinematic validity and stable execution across physics simulators. Beyond asset validity, training with RFW-A-400K improves part-level articulation estimation on seen and unseen categories, while policies trained in simulation with retrieved and program-edited assets transfer zero-shot to real articulated objects.

VideoMemBench: How Well Do MLLMs Remember in Video Conversations?

Zhengdong Hu, Chao Wang, Kaituo Feng, Huanjin Yao, Mingfei Lu, Hehe Fan, Yi Yang

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) can now process hour-long videos, making extended multi-turn dialogue over a single video a natural mode of use. Sustaining such a dialogue requires more than answering each question in isolation: the model must retrieve and reuse information established earlier in the conversation, both what it has seen and what it has said, an ability we term in-context video memory. Existing video QA benchmarks leave this ability unmeasured: their questions are mutually independent, never reference one another, and each is answerable from the video alone, so nothing ever requires carrying information across turns. We introduce VideoMemBench, in which each sample pairs a single video with a long multi-turn dialogue, whose turns are connected by typed cross-turn dependencies: an Episodic Dependency refers back to a visual episode described in an earlier turn, probing memory of what the model has seen, while an Answer Dependency builds on the model's own earlier answer, probing memory of what the model has said. Every dependency is verified considering two properties: 1) necessity, meaning the question cannot be answered without its earlier turns, and 2) non-leakage, meaning the question does not restate the information from its earlier turns. To enforce these properties, we design a construction pipeline with three LLM roles: a planner, a generator, and a judger, with each dialogue reviewed by human experts. VideoMemBench comprises 326 videos with 2,476 turns, of which 1,387 depend on earlier turns, including multi-parent dependencies and long-range call-back. Among over 20 evaluated open- and closed-source MLLMs, Claude Opus 5 performs the best with an overall score of only 45.7\%, highlighting the challenge of in-context video memory. Our dataset and evaluation are released.

Mapping the Emerging Social Science of Large Language Models

Zhanzhan Zhao, Yi Yang, Xiao Jia, Zeyun Dong, Chenzhang Wang

As large language models (LLMs) blur the boundary between cognition and computation, they reshape knowledge production and collective life. We combine a curated review of 198 papers with computational mapping of 47,719 formally published papers from five databases. Text embeddings, clustering, and topic modeling organize the curated literature into 13 subcategories across three domains. LLM as Social Minds examines mind-like reasoning and socially grounded behavior in individual models. LLM Societies explores how interactions among agents produce collective behavior and social organization. LLM-Human Interactions examines how people perceive and engage with LLMs, and how interaction reshapes human thinking, creativity, and relationships. Structural topic modeling of the larger corpus traces how research attention shifts over time and differs across publication venues. We present a reproducible framework that identifies the field's underlying structure and enables its continuous refinement as new studies emerge. The review also identifies a gap in current understanding: the mechanisms underlying many of LLMs' observed cognitive and social behaviors remain unclear. Human-like performance can then be mistaken for understanding, obscuring the norms, biases, and structures of power that LLMs reproduce. We call for shared benchmarks and robustness checks across the three domains to build a reliable evidence base for understanding LLMs' social behaviors and informing their design and use.

Unlimited OCR Works 2

Shu Wei, Jingjing Wu, Qunyi Xie, Lingshu Zhang, Xiangcheng Du, Yannian Fu, Mengjie Wang, Zuyi Wang 等 12 位作者

Unlimited OCR ushers the era of long-horizon parsing, substantially mitigating the growth of working memory as document lengthens. However, as document length scales to hundreds of pages, the visual context grows substantially, sharply increasing the computational cost of each decoding step and limiting the scalability of ultra-long document parsing. Inspired by human book transcription via localized focus without re-scanning preceding pages, we introduce Unlimited OCR 2, a document parsing model that looks only at what it transcribes. Building on Unlimited OCR, we upgrade all the decoder attention modules to Sparse Reference Sliding Window Attention (SR-SWA), bounding active reference tokens to a fixed capacity and thus sustaining constant computational costs across arbitrarily long documents. By combining SR-SWA with Unlimited-Horizon Decoding Paradigm, Unlimited OCR 2 enables document parsing over virtually unlimited lengths without prohibitive memory overhead. At the hundred-page scale, Unlimited OCR 2 achieves 7.0$\times$ and 5.6$\times$ per-step speedups over Full Attention and R-SWA, respectively. Furthermore, it delivers state-of-the-art end-to-end performance on both MPDocBench and MarathonDocBench, our newly proposed benchmark targeting hundred-page document parsing. Ultimately, the capacity for uninterrupted, one-shot document parsing signifies a fundamental paradigm shift into the OCR 3.0 era.

Explicit Regional Representations For Video Quality Assessment

Fuyi Yang, Lei Yang, Andrew Liu, Chenyu Wei, Xiaoyi Guo, Ming Kai Hsu

End-to-end video quality assessment (VQA) methods leave the regional evidence underlying their predictions largely implicit. We introduce an explicit pixel-level regional representation for VQA, instantiated as a Quality-Relevance Heatmap (QRH) that combines localized degradation evidence with perceptual priors under vision-language model guidance, without requiring pixel-level annotations. We apply QRH to existing VQA models through two deterministic fragment-sampling strategies: distribution-preserving sampling approximates the original sampler's QRH-score distribution without retraining, while quality-aware sampling prioritizes regions with high QRH scores and is paired with fine-tuning. Experiments with DOVER on multiple benchmarks show that the former closely approximates predictions averaged over random samples, while the latter improves most evaluated metrics across popular VQA benchmarks. These results support explicit regional representations as a useful interface for downstream VQA.

Read the Route: Attention-Steered Hypergraph Retrieval for Multi-hop RAG

Jiate Liu, Liuyi Chen, Xiaofei Yuan, Yifu Tang, Zihan Yang, Xu Zhou, Zhengyi Yang

Graph-based retrieval-augmented generation (GraphRAG) answers multi-hop questions by organizing a corpus into a graph and retrieving along its structure. Existing retrieval methods face two limitations. Diffusion- and similarity-based methods expand retrieval along fixed edge weights or by similarity to the question, without resolving its implicit entity references, allowing relevance errors to accumulate across hops. In contrast, exploration-based methods let an LLM reason about the next hop, but require a separate generation at each hop, leading to high inference costs. We observe that an LLM can resolve implicit entity references from retrieved passages and a multi-hop question before generating any tokens. Further analysis identifies a small set of attention heads, termed addressing heads, that capture this capability across multiple hops in a single forward pass. Building on this finding, we propose HyperAddress, which runs Personalized PageRank on a description-labelled hypergraph, using addressing heads to determine the restart distribution and transition weights, thereby guiding multi-hop retrieval without any generation at query time. On MuSiQue, 2WikiMultiHopQA, and HotpotQA, HyperAddress outperforms the strongest baseline by 3.5 points of Recall@5 and 7.4 points of All@5 on average, with gains that grow with the number of hops. It answers more than twice as fast and builds its index at half the cost.

Lost in Translation: Investigating Systematic Discrepancies between Parallel English and Chinese Names of American Chinese Restaurants

Hang Jiang, Nanxi Liu, Tiantian Wang, Cassandra Overney, Rukun Zhang, Artemisia Luk, Diyi Yang, Deb Roy 等 9 位作者

Given that the Chinese are one of the oldest ethnic groups to immigrate to the US, their cuisine have become central to the US dining scene and an interesting avenue to study how Chinese immigrants have culturally adapted into American life. In that regard, previous research has focused on analyzing the English names that Chinese restaurants adopt, e.g., finding the use of familiar and typical words. To investigate how Chinese immigrants have culturally integrated in the US depending on social, geographic and demographic contexts, we investigate in this work the under-explored relationship between the Chinese and English names of American Chinese restaurants. Specifically, we conduct a study on 3,172 Chinese restaurants (10% of the total on Google Maps) sampled across the US. We present 8-dimension name frames to capture the underlying meanings behind names and create the NameFrames dataset containing 884 annotated parallel Chinese/English names. We also built an NLP pipeline to analyze the semantic discrepancies between names with both frame-based and embedding-based distance metrics. Our frame analysis shows that English names more often emphasize Location and Specialty, while Chinese names more often emphasize Positivity and Ambiance. Furthermore, we observe that for Chinese restaurants located in urban areas, those in counties with a higher concentration of Chinese population, or those that are relatively new, the discrepancies between the English and Chinese names are noticeably larger. Finally, interviews with 10 Chinese restaurant owners reveal additional interesting insights regarding naming conventions.

Learning generalizable humanoid loco-manipulation remains bottlenecked by costly real-world demonstrations. Simulation provides a scalable alternative, but requires visually faithful, physics-ready scenes and executable whole-body motions. We present Zero-HLM, a real-to-sim-to-real framework that transforms smartphone captures and simulated source demonstrations into scalable training data for humanoid loco-manipulation. Gaussian-guided agentic real-to-sim reconstruction aligns visual and physical scenes; motion-environment co-adaptation uses rollout feedback to correct whole-body references and interaction geometry. We generate 4,800 physically validated demonstrations for zero-shot transfer across three Unitree G1 tasks. Simulation-trained GR00T N1.7 achieves 66.7% mean full-task success, versus 46.7% with real-data training. On generalized configurations, expanded simulation training raises pooled success from 23% for base-trained real-data policies to 69%, without additional real demonstrations. Priority-Aware Scheduler for Serverless Functions Provision and Load Balancing

Cheryl Lee, Zishan Su, Zhouruixing Zhu, Tianyi Yang, Yuxin Su, Pinjia He, Michael R. Lyu

Serverless computing has emerged as a pivotal cloud deployment paradigm due to its efficient utilization of on-demand resources. However, the persistent cold start problem continues to hinder system performance. Current strategies often employ oversimplified preloading/unloading mechanisms that inadequately exploit invocation patterns, failing to optimize the critical trade-off between startup latency and resource efficiency. Furthermore, existing approaches disregard practical constraints of memory-limited multi-worker environments, exacerbating function eviction and load imbalance issues. To address these limitations, we present SPES-Ext, a rule-based priority-aware scheduler designed for memory-constrained distributed worker nodes. Our methodology stems from two key observations: (1) serverless systems exhibit concentrated invocation patterns enabling behavioral predictability, and (2) these patterns permit function categorization for granular instance management. This insight posits that characteristic-driven prioritization enables optimal scheduling rules, leading to our system design, which integrates three coordinated components: predictive function provisioning, eviction optimization, and dynamic load balancing. Experimental validation demonstrates the superiority of SPES-Ext over state-of-the-art solutions: 80% reduction in $75^{th}$-percentile cold starts, 83.92% decrease in memory waste, and 52.49% improvement in worker load variance.

LBLLM: Lightweight Binarization of Large Language Models via Three-Stage Distillation

Siqing Song, Chuang Wang Institute of automation, Chinese academy of science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yong Lang Huawei Technologies Ltd., Yi Yang Huawei Technologies Ltd., Xu-Yao Zhang

Deploying large language models (LLMs) in resource-constrained environments is hindered by heavy computational and memory requirements. We present LBLLM, a lightweight binarization framework that achieves effective W(1+1)A4 quantization through a novel three-stage quantization strategy. The framework proceeds as follows: (1) initialize a high-quality quantized model via PTQ; (2) quantize binarized weights, group-wise bitmaps, and quantization parameters through layer-wise distillation while keeping activations in full precision; and (3) training learnable activation quantization factors to dynamically quantize activations to 4 bits. This decoupled design mitigates interference between weight and activation quantization, yielding greater training stability and better inference accuracy. LBLLM, trained only using 0.016B tokens with a single GPU, surpasses existing state-of-the-art binarization methods on W2A4 quantization settings across tasks of language modeling, commonsense QA, and language understanding. These results demonstrate that extreme low-bit quantization of LLMs can be both practical and highly effective without introducing any extra high-precision channels or rotational matrices commonly used in recent PTQ-based works, offering a promising path toward efficient LLM deployment in resource-limited situations.

Enhancing Reinforcement Learning for Radiology Report Generation with Evidence-aware Rewards and Self-correcting Preference Learning

Qin Zhou East China University of Science and Technology, Guoyan Liang, Qianyi Yang, Jingyuan Chen Zhejiang University, Sai Wu Zhejiang University, Chang Yao Zhejiang University, Zhe Wang

Recent reinforcement learning (RL) approaches have advanced radiology report generation (RRG), yet two core limitations persist: (1) report-level rewards offer limited evidence-grounded guidance for clinical faithfulness; and (2) current methods lack an explicit self-improving mechanism to align with clinical preference. We introduce clinically aligned Evidence-aware Self-Correcting Reinforcement Learning (ESC-RL), comprising two key components. First, a Group-wise Evidence-aware Alignment Reward (GEAR) delivers group-wise, evidence-aware feedback. GEAR reinforces consistent grounding for true positives, recovers missed findings for false negatives, and suppresses unsupported content for false positives. Second, a Self-correcting Preference Learning (SPL) strategy automatically constructs a reliable, disease-aware preference dataset from multiple noisy observations and leverages an LLM to synthesize refined reports without human supervision. ESC-RL promotes clinically faithful, disease-aligned reward and supports continual self-improvement during training. Extensive experiments on two public chest X-ray datasets demonstrate consistent gains and state-of-the-art performance.

One Refiner to Unlock Them All: Inference-Time Reasoning Elicitation via Reinforcement Query Refinement

Yixiao Zhou, Dongzhou Cheng, Zhiliang wu Nanyang Technological University, Yi Yang Zhejiang University, Yu Cheng Skywork AI and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hehe Fan Zhejiang University

Large Language Models (LLMs) often fail to utilize their latent reasoning capabilities due to a distributional mismatch between ambiguous human inquiries and the structured logic required for machine activation. Existing alignment methods either incur prohibitive O(N) costs by fine-tuning each model individually or rely on static prompts that fail to resolve query-level structural complexity. In this paper, we propose ReQueR (Reinforcement Query Refinement), a modular framework that treats reasoning elicitation as an inference-time alignment task. We train a specialized Refiner policy via Reinforcement Learning to rewrite raw queries into explicit logical decompositions, treating frozen LLMs as the environment. Rooted in the classical Zone of Proximal Development from educational psychology, we introduce the Adaptive Solver Hierarchy, a curriculum mechanism that stabilizes training by dynamically aligning environmental difficulty with the Refiner’s evolving competence. ReQueR yields consistent absolute gains of 1.3%–7.2% across diverse architectures and benchmarks, outperforming strong baselines by 2.1% on average. Crucially, it provides a promising paradigm for one-to-many inference-time reasoning elicitation, enabling a single Refiner trained on a small set of models to effectively unlock reasoning in diverse unseen Solvers. Code is available at https://github.com/newera-xiao/ReQueR.

HowToNarrate: A General-Domain Benchmark for Synchronized Video Narration with External Knowledge

Xueyan Wang, Dingyi Yang, Qin Jin Renmin University of China

We present HowToNarrate, the first general-domain benchmark for Synchronized Video Narration. The benchmark contains 3.2K videos across seven domains, segmented into 37.5K clips with aligned narrations and associated external knowledge. Effective narration requires models to understand visual scenes, incorporate relevant knowledge, and produce coherent, length-appropriate descriptions. We systematically benchmark current Multimodal LLMs (MLLMs) on these abilities. Our analysis shows that existing MLLMs overemphasize knowledge retrieval while largely neglecting prior context (receiving less than 10% attention). Moreover, they often conflate narration context with external knowledge, leading to redundancy and incoherence. To mitigate these issues, we propose VideoNarrationAgent, a multi-agent framework that combines context compression, knowledge retrieval, and narration generation. Experiments demonstrate that our method significantly improves MLLM performance. Furthermore, instruction tuning on HowToNarrate enhances both context-awareness and length control, boosting Qwen2.5-VL’s score from 25 to 84. We will release all data and code to support future research in synchronized video narration.

Putting HUMANS first: Efficient LAM Evaluation with Human Preference Alignment

Woody Haosheng Gan, William Barr Held OpenAthena, Diyi Yang Stanford University

The rapid proliferation of large audio models (LAMs) demands efficient approaches for model comparison, yet comprehensive benchmarks are costly. To fill this gap, we investigate whether minimal subsets can reliably evaluate LAMs while reducing costs and data redundancy. Analyzing 10 subset selection methods with 18 audio models across 40 tasks covering major LAM evaluation dimensions, we show that subsets of just 50 examples (0.3% of data) can achieve over 0.93 Pearson correlation with full benchmark scores. To understand how well these scores align with what practitioners ultimately care about—user satisfaction—we collect 776 human preference ratings from realistic voice assistant conversations, finding that both subsets and full benchmark achieve only 0.85 correlation with human. To better predict preferences, we trained regression models on these selected subsets, achieving 0.98 correlation—outperforming regression models trained on both random subsets and the full benchmark. This demonstrates that in regression modeling, well-curated subsets outpredict the full benchmark, showing quality over quantity. We open-source these regression-weighted subsets as the HUMANS benchmark, an efficient proxy for LAM evaluation that captures both benchmark performance and user preferences.

OMIBench: Benchmarking Olympiad-Level Multi-Image Reasoning in Large Vision-Language Models

Qiguang Chen, Chengyu Luan, Jiajun Wu, Qiming Yu, Yi Yang, Yizhuo Li, Jingqi Tong, Xiachong Feng University of Hong Kong 等 10 位作者

Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have made substantial advances in reasoning tasks at the Olympiad level. Nevertheless, current Olympiad-level multimodal reasoning benchmarks for these models often emphasize single-image analysis and fail to exploit contextual information across multiple images. We present OMIBench, a benchmark designed to evaluate Olympiad-level reasoning when the required evidence is distributed over multiple images. It contains problems from biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics Olympiads, together with manually annotated rationales and evaluation protocols for both exact and semantic answer matching. Across extensive experiments on OMIBench, we observe meaningful performance gaps in existing models. Even the strongest LVLMs, such as Gemini-3-Pro, attain only about 50% on the benchmark. These results position OMIBench as a focused resources for studying and improving multi-image reasoning in LVLMs.

MathFlow: Enhancing the Perceptual Flow of MLLMs for Visual Mathematical Problems

Shuhang Chen, Hangjie Yuan DAMO Academy, Alibaba Group, Yunqiu Xu National University of Singapore, Pengwei Liu, Tao Feng Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Jun Cen Alibaba Group, Zeying Huang Intelligent Learning Tech(Zhejiang), Yi Yang Zhejiang University

Despite strong results on many tasks, multimodal large language models (MLLMs) still underperform on visual mathematical problem solving, especially in reliably perceiving and interpreting diagrams. Inspired by human problem-solving, we hypothesize that the ability to extract meaningful information from diagrams is pivotal, as it directly conditions subsequent inference.Hence, we introduce FlowVerse, a comprehensive benchmark that provides a fine-grained evaluation of MLLMs’ perception and reasoning capabilities. Our preliminary results on FlowVerse reveal that existing MLLMs exhibit substantial limitations when extracting essential information and reasoned properties from diagrams and performing complex reasoning based on these visual inputs. In response, we introduce MathFlow, a modular problem-solving pipeline that decouples perception and inference into distinct stages, thereby optimizing each independently. Given the perceptual limitations observed in current MLLMs, we trained MathFlow-P-7B as a dedicated perception model.Experimental results indicate that MathFlow-P-7B yields substantial performance gains when integrated with various closed-source and open-source inference models. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the MathFlow pipeline and its compatibility with diverse inference frameworks. Project page: https://github.com/MathFlow-zju/MathFlow.

KV-Embedding: Training-free Text Embedding via Internal KV Re-routing in Decoder-only LLMs

Yixuan Tang Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Yi Yang Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

While LLMs are powerful embedding backbones, their application in training-free settings faces two structural challenges: causal attention restricts early tokens from accessing subsequent context, and the next-token prediction objective biases representations toward generation rather than semantic compression. To address these limitations, we propose KV-Embedding, a framework that activates the latent representation power of frozen LLMs. Our method leverages the observation that the key-value (KV) states of the final token at each layer encode a compressed view of the sequence. By re-routing these states as a prepended prefix, we enable all tokens to access sequence-level context within a single forward pass. To ensure model-agnostic applicability, we introduce an automated layer selection strategy based on intrinsic dimensionality. Evaluations on MTEB across Qwen, Mistral, and Llama backbones show that KV-Embedding outperforms existing training-free baselines by up to 10%, while maintaining robust performance on sequences up to 4,096 tokens. These results demonstrate that internal state manipulation offers an efficient alternative to input modification, and we hope this work encourages further exploration of LLM internals for representation learning.

Language Model as Planner and Formalizer under Constraints

Cassie Huang Drexel University, Stuti Mohan Drexel University, Ziyi Yang Brown University, Stefanie Tellex, Li Zhang Drexel University

LLMs have been widely used in planning, either as planners to generate action sequences end-to-end, or as formalizers to represent the planning domain and problem in a formal language that can derive plans deterministically. However, both lines of work rely on standard benchmarks that include only generic and simplistic environmental specifications, leading to potential overestimation of the planning ability of LLMs and safety concerns in downstream tasks. We bridge this gap by augmenting widely used planning benchmarks with manually annotated, fine-grained, and rich natural language constraints spanning four formally defined categories. Over 4 state-of-the-art reasoning LLMs, 4 formal languages, and 4 datasets, we show that the introduction of one-sentence constraints consistently halves performance, indicating current LLMs’ lack of robustness and an avenue for future research.

Beyond Chunking: Discourse-Aware Hierarchical Retrieval for Long Document Question Answering

Huiyao Chen, Yi Yang, Yinghui Li Tencent, Meishan Zhang Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), China, Baotian Hu Harbin Institute of Technology, Min Zhang Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen and Harbin Institute of Technology

Existing long-document question answering systems typically process texts as flat sequences or use heuristic chunking, which overlook the discourse structures that naturally guide human comprehension. We present a discourse-aware hierarchical framework that leverages rhetorical structure theory (RST) for long document question answering. Our approach converts discourse trees into sentence-level representations and employs LLM-enhanced node representations to bridge structural and semantic information. The framework involves three key innovations: language-universal discourse parsing for lengthy documents, LLM-based enhancement of discourse relation nodes, and structure-guided hierarchical retrieval. Extensive experiments on four datasets demonstrate consistent improvements over existing approaches through the incorporation of discourse structure, across multiple genres and languages. Moreover, the proposed framework exhibits strong robustness across diverse document types and linguistic settings.

Future of Work in the Age of LLMs

Zora Wang Carnegie Mellon University, Yijia Shao Stanford University, David Nguyen Stanford University, Diyi Yang Stanford University

The recent development of large language models (LLMs) has revolutionized the landscape of human work. These models possess the ability to follow complex human instructions and operate versatile computer software, enabling them to participate in, augment, or even automate realistic occupational tasks that once thought to be exclusive to humans. As LLMs are increasingly integrated into workplaces, they are already reshaping labor dynamics (Hoffmann et al., 2024; Demirci et al., 2025) and raising urgent concerns about job displacement, diminished human agency, and overreliance on automation (Hazra et al., 2025). As a result, the future of work is undergoing a profound transformation: How will human occupations and task requirements evolve over time? And what roles will LLM-based systems play, as they become increasingly capable collaborators and autonomous workers? And how can we build technological and data infrastructures to support human-AI collaboration? This tutorial will provide an overview of the future of work shaped by the interplay of LLMs and humans, examining the emerging challenges, opportunities, and ethical considerations in this dynamic landscape. We begin by examining the economic landscape of work and how NLP technologies drive automation, followed by methods for developing LLMs that augment human labor and recent advances in LLM-based agents. We then cover evaluation approaches for workplace contexts, including datasets, benchmarks, and metrics, and conclude with open questions on technical, human, and societal implications.

AI Scientists Fail Without Strong Implementation Capability

Minjun Zhu, Qiujie Xie, Yixuan Weng, Jian Wu, Zhen Lin, Linyi Yang, Yue Zhang

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist represents a paradigm shift in scientific discovery, with large language models (LLMs) taking the lead as the primary executor in the entire scientific workflow from idea generation to experiment implementation. Recent AI Scientist studies demonstrate sufficient capabilities for independent scientific discovery, with the generated research reports gaining acceptance at the ICLR 2025 workshop and ACL 2025, arguing that a human-level AI Scientist, capable of uncovering phenomena previously unknown to humans, may be imminent. Despite this substantial progress, AI Scientist has yet to produce a groundbreaking achievement in the domain of computer science on par with automated scientific tools. Based on extensive quantitative evidence from existing benchmarks in complex engineering tasks and a systematic evaluation assess 28 research papers generated by five advanced AI Scientist systems, we argue that \textbf{the fundamental bottleneck for AI Scientists lies in their capability to execute the requisite verification procedures.} Current AI Scientist systems lack the execution capabilities needed to execute rigorous experiments and produce high-quality scientific papers. To better illustrate the root cause of this \textbf{implementation gap}, we provide an in-depth discussion on the fundamental limitations of AI Scientist. This position paper aims to call for the participants in the community to bridge the implementation gap.

DeepReview: Improving LLM-based Paper Review with Human-like Deep Thinking Process

Minjun Zhu, Yixuan Weng, Linyi Yang, Yue Zhang

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly utilized in scientific research assessment, particularly in automated paper review. However, existing LLM-based review systems face significant challenges, including limited domain expertise, hallucinated reasoning, and a lack of structured evaluation. To address these limitations, we introduce DeepReview, a multi-stage framework designed to emulate expert reviewers by incorporating structured analysis, literature retrieval, and evidence-based argumentation. Using DeepReview-13K, a curated dataset with structured annotations, we train DeepReviewer-14B, which outperforms CycleReviewer-70B with fewer tokens. In its best mode, DeepReviewer-14B achieves win rates of 88.21\% and 80.20\% against GPT-o1 and DeepSeek-R1 in evaluations. Our work sets a new benchmark for LLM-based paper review, with all resources publicly available. The code, model, dataset and demo have be released in http://ai-researcher.net.
