Improving Context-Shift Robustness of Convolutional Networks via Context-Regularized Cross-Entropy

Jinen Setpal, Chaoyue Liu

Image classification models often encounter objects in diverse and unpredictable contexts at test time, which may differ substantially from those seen during training. This phenomenon, termed context shift, exposes a key fragility in neural networks: when models rely on non-causal contextual cues for prediction, shifts in context can lead to significant performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a novel training framework to improve the robustness of convolutional neural networks under context shift. Our approach leverages spatial feature attribution to guide models toward making predictions that rely less on contextual regions and more on object-relevant features. As a first step, recognizing a theoretical limitation of existing feature attribution methods we introduce a new variant, ContrastiveCAMs, which produces more faithful attribution maps of model predictions. Building on ContrastiveCAMs, we further propose Context-Regularized Cross-Entropy (CR-CE), a modification of the standard cross-entropy loss that regularizes the model's attention by suppressing the influence of contextual regions, thereby improving robustness to context shift. We evaluate the effectiveness of our approach on several medium-to-large scale datasets (Waterbirds, Spawrious, ImageNet/ImageNet-BG, Hard-ImageNet), and report consistent improvements in context-shift robustness.

The Token Before the Value Is the Key

Ke Cheng, Xin Xu, Zhichao Chen, Yixiao Chen, Lei Xin, Jianbo Zhao, Fanhu Zeng, Yue Liu 等 10 位作者

Induction circuits retrieve a value by matching a query to information carried from the token before that value. How this address forms, incorporates context, and supports sequential retrieval remains less clear. We use hybrid language models as a tractable testbed and identify the historical source key as a common causal interface between local preparation and global retrieval. Probes and restoration interventions connect this interface across controlled models, pretrained recurrent and sliding-window hybrids, and released language models. We organize the analysis by address context radius and sequential retrieval depth. First, shared local parameters couple predecessor Carrying to recurrent state processing; separating these demands or biasing initialization promotes address formation. Second, adapting input representations extends an established literal circuit to category matching, making semantically compatible records active competitors. Earlier context resolves this competition through the source key, with a sharp visibility boundary in a controlled single-read model and compositional relays across local layers. Third, fixed relations support memorization shortcuts, whereas sequential generalization requires learning an output-to-query bridge between retrievals. Controlled state-tracking and compositional in-context tasks demonstrate this requirement across stacked stages, looped recurrence, and intermediate-token generation. Together, these results connect circuit formation, contextual disambiguation, and sequential use through a shared retrieval interface. Alignment Whack-a-Mole : Finetuning Activates Verbatim Recall of Copyrighted Books in Large Language Models

Xinyue Liu, Niloofar Mireshghallah, Jane C. Ginsburg, Tuhin Chakrabarty

Frontier LLM companies have repeatedly assured courts and regulators that their models do not store copies of training data. They further rely on safety alignment strategies via RLHF, system prompts, and output filters to block verbatim regurgitation of copyrighted works, and have cited the efficacy of these measures in their legal defenses against copyright infringement claims. We show that finetuning bypasses these protections: by training models to expand plot summaries into full text, a task naturally suited for commercial writing assistants, we cause GPT-4o, Gemini-2.5-Pro, and DeepSeek-V3.1 to reproduce up to 85-90\% of held-out copyrighted books, with single verbatim spans exceeding 460 words, using only semantic descriptions as prompts and no actual book text. This extraction generalizes across authors: finetuning exclusively on Haruki Murakami's novels unlocks verbatim recall of copyrighted books from over 30 unrelated authors. The effect is not specific to any training author or corpus: random author pairs and public-domain finetuning data produce comparable extraction, while finetuning on synthetic text yields far little extraction, indicating that finetuning on individual authors' works reactivates latent memorization from pretraining. Three models from different providers memorize the same books in the same regions ($r \ge 0.90$), pointing to an industry-wide vulnerability. Our findings offer compelling evidence that model weights store copies of copyrighted works and that the security failures that manifest after finetuning on individual authors' works undermine a key premise of recent fair use rulings, where courts have conditioned favorable outcomes on the adequacy of measures preventing reproduction of protected expression.

FloodSQL-Bench: A Retrieval-Augmented Benchmark for Geospatially-Grounded Text-to-SQL

Hanzhou Liu, Kai Yin, Zhitong Chen, Chenyue Liu, Ali Mostafavi

Existing Text-to-SQL benchmarks primarily focus on single-table queries or limited joins in general-purpose domains, and thus fail to reflect the complexity of domain-specific, multi-table and geospatial reasoning, To address this limitation, we introduce FLOODSQL-BENCH, a geospatially grounded benchmark for the flood management domain that integrates heterogeneous datasets through key-based, spatial, and hybrid joins. The benchmark captures realistic flood-related information needs by combining social, infrastructural, and hazard data layers. We systematically evaluate recent large language models with the same retrieval-augmented generation settings and measure their performance across difficulty tiers. By providing a unified, open benchmark grounded in real-world disaster management data, FLOODSQL-BENCH establishes a practical testbed for advancing Text-to-SQL research in high-stakes application domains.

数据应该教什么?跨越电路、存储与使用的瓶颈迁移

What Should Data Teach? Moving Bottlenecks Across Circuit, Store, and Use

Yixiao Chen, Ke Cheng, Yue Liu, Jun Zhang, Jie Jiang

AI 速览:作者提出一种“电路视角”的数据诊断原则,将语言模型训练中的瓶颈分为计算形成、内容可用与路径选择三类,并报告相应数据干预在350M模型实验中的效果。

What should data teach a language model at a particular point in training? A circuit view reveals three distinct bottlenecks: forming a computation, making its required content available, and selecting among available routes. A shared diagnosis-to-data principle connects them: localize the missing operation, preserve its causal relation, vary shortcut-bearing context, and re-audit the residual. Formation-sensitive selection and prerequisite ordering accelerate a binding-matching-transport path; a brief early prefix from the same training multiset retains a validation advantage through 100B tokens. Availability counterfactuals then distinguish writing content from invoking available memory, while paired supervision and context-opportunity ranking improve matched route decisions and long-context answer likelihood. A continuous 350M-model experiment connects the three interventions on the same facts: early circuit training improves subsequent learning, and the complete sequence outperforms stage-replacement controls on facts withheld from Use teaching. Independent query surfaces and opposed-source decisions expose conditional arbitration as the remaining frontier. Together, these results show why a change in the limiting operation calls for a change in supervision, not merely a new ranking of difficult examples.

RetryBench: Separating Retry Permission from Recovery Outcomes in GPT Tool Use

You Liu, Yue Liu, Quanchao Lu

LLM agents that call external tools must decide what to do when a tool call times out: retrying risks duplicate side effects, while not retrying can leave the task incomplete. We present RetryBench, an evaluation protocol for retry decisions and failure recovery in tool-using LLM agents. Each decision is scored on retry permission (is the retry justified by an idempotency-key guarantee or proof of non-execution?), settled effects (duplicates and omissions), and completion, by replaying it across all hidden execution worlds consistent with the observation. On four synthetic software-engineering tasks, we run two controlled prompt-sensitivity studies (1,728 decisions). Study 1 (idempotency-key descriptions): with the contract fixed, GPT-5.6 Luna reuses the valid idempotency key in 10/40 decisions when an extra key is described as a "Candidate recovery key" but in 39/40 when it is an "Alternative key string"; across three further phrasings per family the gap is 27/120 versus 113/120. GPT-5.6 Sol and Terra are at ceiling (40/40). Study 2 (action order): under underspecified lookup guarantees, retry rates are 17-27 points lower for GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.4 when retry is listed first (option-order bias), mainly on two tasks; we make no claim about which behavior is better. Findings are limited to researcher-chosen phrasings, four tasks and unpinned model aliases. Code and all model responses are released.

Correct Robots Before They Make Mistakes: Proactive Human-in-the-Loop Intervention via Preference Learning

Xinkai Jiang, Jing Jiang, Hongyi Zhou, Pankhuri Vanjani, Ahmad Baki, Jakub Suliga, Ge Li, Zhuoyue Li 等 10 位作者

This paper presents Proactive Human-in-the-Loop (PHIL), a framework for proactive policy correction and preference-based post-training. PHIL enables operators to preview policy-predicted future motion and intervene before anticipated undesirable actions. During takeover, PHIL continues querying the policy and displaying its predicted trajectories in the physical workspace through an extended reality (XR) interface. PHIL pairs rejected policy predictions with corrective action chunks subsequently executed from the same physical state over the same horizon, and preference-based post-training encourages the policy to favor these corrections. This paper evaluates PHIL on four real-world manipulation tasks using a diffusion policy and a pretrained vision-language-action policy. With five correction episodes per condition, PHIL increases mean success rates across the evaluated tasks and demonstration budgets from 44.0% to 70.3% for the diffusion policy and from 57.8% to 76.9% for X-VLA, compared with HG-DAgger. Separately, policies trained with proactive corrections show fewer unnecessary recovery behaviors in successful episodes. Project page: https://intuitive-robots.github.io/PHIL-page/.

Training Specialist LLMs on Your Phone: Forward-Only Optimization via Block-Spectral Coordinates

Liyan Tan, Yequan Zhao, Ziyue Liu, Yupeng Su, Ruijie Zhang, Zheng Zhang

Large language models (LLMs) on personal devices keep user data local, but limited memory restricts their general capability. Since most user-specific tasks do not require the breadth of frontier models, a practical solution is to adapt a shared on-device model into lightweight specialists. However, backpropagation is prohibitive in memory, and users rarely provide labeled data. We present MobileSpec, a system that trains specialists with forward passes alone and learns from automatically checked task outcomes, as in reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR). Because forward-only updates are built from random perturbations, training is efficient only when these perturbations resemble the weight changes of RLVR, which largely preserve the singular values of pretrained weights and rotate their singular vectors. The core algorithm of MobileSpec, FuRA-S, produces such perturbations while training only the block-spectral coordinates of pretrained weights, namely the singular values of their column blocks. As we show theoretically and empirically, rescaling these blocks independently shifts their relative contributions to each weight matrix and thereby rotates its singular vectors. Since this update can be rewritten as a transformation of the layer input, FuRA-S also adapts INT4 models without modifying their weights. With specialists of only 1-5 MB that update 0.015-0.05% of the parameters, MobileSpec raises the success rate of a phone-use agent from 6-23% up to 89-100% and trains a personalized 8B model on an iPhone 16 Pro overnight. On RLVR benchmarks, FuRA-S is competitive with full-parameter evolution strategies (ES) and outperforms ES over LoRA adapters and quantized ES on INT4 models.

OneTrans-GSR: A Generative Slate Ranking Paradigm Unifying Reranking and Mix-Ranking with One Autoregressive Transformer

Feng Cheng, Yu-Hsuan Huang, Fengyi Wang, Chaofan Zhou, Zhennan Zhu, Huan He, Bo Zhang, Ruoqi Zhang 等 16 位作者

Industrial recommender systems allocate substantial computation to pointwise candidate scoring, yet separate reranking and mix-ranking stages still assemble the final exposure slate using hand-crafted rules and specialized low-capacity models. Mix-ranking combines product cards, short videos, livestreams, and advertising cards supplied by distinct upstream business channels. Although these rules and models encode valuable domain knowledge, they are inherently limited in leveraging additional data and computation. They constrain the combinatorial space of candidate slates and determine objective trade-offs through manual tuning. To enable scalable and effective slate generation, we reformulate reranking and mix-ranking as a unified learning problem whose performance can improve with computation. Specifically, we instantiate this formulation across the reranking and mix-ranking stages and propose OneTrans-GSR, a single decoder-only policy that extends our deployed OneTrans backbone to generate the exposure slate end-to-end. During training, a reward model evaluates complete slates and guides reinforcement learning toward slate-level and long-term objectives. During decoding, business constraints are explicitly enforced. Offline evaluation shows that slate quality consistently improves as reward-model and policy compute increase. Deployed in a large-scale industrial recommendation system, OneTrans-GSR mixes heterogeneous content types within a unified slate. In online A/B tests, it improves GMV/u by 2.63%, advertiser value by 2.06%, and repurchase rate by 2.03%, while reducing end-to-end latency across the reranking and mix-ranking stages by 13%. These results mark a paradigm shift in slate generation: moving beyond human-engineered heuristics toward a general learned policy creates a scalable path for further algorithmic optimization and compute-driven improvement.

FreeForm Harness: A Mobile-Native Agent Harness for Open and Composable Extensions

Bo Zhang, Pengbo Zhang, Jiaxin Jiao, Yue Liu

Mobile phones support many everyday agent tasks, but current mobile agents bundle capabilities into monolithic pipelines with no open recombination point. Users and third parties cannot publish, install, and compose new behaviors, leaving personalized daily-life requests underserved. We argue that the missing piece is a substrate: although phones are the Web's dominant access point, open publication and composition under decentralized authorship stop at the agent harness. We present FreeForm Harness (FFH), a mobile-native agent harness for open, composable extensions. A frozen base and a permanence-aware required layer handle mobile constraints, including location, proactive triggering, and scarce channels. A uniform plugin contract makes independently authored extensions composable, checkable, and replaceable over a frozen socket set. FFH also supports end-user authorship through a tiered commissioned-authoring path. When no existing extension matches a user's intent, a Web coding agent generates a candidate artifact, which is validated and admitted on device under the same contract as other extensions. An Android prototype spans device, market, and cloud. Evaluation shows that architectural boundaries are enforced at runtime; realistic daily-life requests fit the declared composition space without widening it; and user intent reaches on-device execution through retrieval or commissioned authoring, with final trust decisions remaining device-local. FFH advances the agentic Web from "everything is a plugin" toward "everyone is a developer" on mobile.

CANDO: Conservative Action-Noise Directional Optimization for Residual Reinforcement Learning

Zeyu Gao, Chengkai Hou, Chaoyue Li, Zhuangzhe Wu, Jiaming Liu, Yao Mu, Peng Jia, Li Zhang 等 9 位作者

Pretrained generative policies provide strong behavior priors for robot control, but adapting them efficiently with online reinforcement learning remains difficult. A central challenge is how to improve a frozen generative policy without destroying the structure learned from offline demonstrations. Noise-space residual methods address this by modifying the policy's input noise, but existing noise-space methods typically regulate adaptation through fixed latent feasible regions, which may exclude valuable noise edits. In contrast, action-space residual methods are more sample-efficient, but their efficiency can still be further improved. We propose Conservative Noise Directional Optimization (CNDO), a noise-space residual RL method that improves a frozen generative policy by learning state- and noise-conditioned directions around Gaussian latent samples. CNDO removes predefined latent feasible regions and instead regulates noise-space adaptation through the soft conservative constraint, which consists of conservative value estimation and gated execution. We further introduce Conservative Action-Noise Directional Optimization (CANDO), which adds an action-space residual, combining structured latent-space improvement with local action correction. Experiments show that, once CNDO narrows the gap between noise-space and action-space residual learning, CANDO further improves over single-space optimization, achieving 76.1 NAUC and a 91.4% final success rate, surpassing the best single-space results by 6.6 NAUC and 4.1% success rate. Raincheck: Deferred Multimodal Prefill for Efficient Multi-Turn MLLM Inference

Wenjie Huang, Jun Zhang, Hongyaoxing Gu, Haoyang Huang, Tianqi Xu, Xinyue Hao, Xinyi Hu, Xinle Du 等 13 位作者

Multi-turn conversations with multimodal large language models (MLLMs) reuse input context, but long multimodal inputs increase time to first token (TTFT). Query-aware hard pruning reduces prefill tokens but permanently excludes information that later questions may require. We propose Raincheck, a framework for deferred multimodal prefill that decouples initial token selection from later information availability. An existing pruning method selects tokens for initial prefill; Raincheck preserves and progressively prefills unselected tokens in source order using unused compute capacity during decode. Unfinished prefill continues after answer return during available scheduling gaps. Attention visibility control and affine state mapping enable context updates after generation begins in full-attention and hybrid recurrent models. Prefill-decode fusion reduces repeated weight reads. We evaluate Qwen3-VL-8B and Qwen3.5-9B with 30% initial multimodal-token retention. Across both models and four pruning methods, Raincheck recovers on average 77.7% and 60.4% of the quality lost to matched hard pruning on MultiVerse and ConvBench, respectively. On MultiVerse, the SGLang implementation reduces mean first-turn TTFT by up to 24.1% relative to full prefill, with less than 0.5% increase in mean time per output token (TPOT).

Controlling Action-Head Co-Adaptation to VLM Representation Anisotropy

Ruijie Zhang, Jiayin Zheng, Yequan Zhao, Liyan Tan, Ziyue Liu, Zhengyang Wang, Kunpeng Song, Nathan Zhao 等 11 位作者

Modern learning systems increasingly combine pretrained models with downstream heads. Despite the growing importance of such modular designs, how the downstream model co-adapts to the geometry of pretrained representations remains relatively underexplored. We study this problem through vision-language-action models (VLAs), where a pretrained vision-language model (VLM) conditions an action model for control. We find that the action model progressively concentrates its sensitivity on high-variance dimensions of the VLM outputs. Through controlled experiments across different backbone-head models, we further show that counteracting this sensitivity concentration can be beneficial under representation--task mismatch settings. Motivated by these observations, we introduce \emph{Adaptive Interface Equalizer} (AdaIE), a parameter-free mechanism that reweights pretrained representations according to the evolving downstream sensitivity during training. AdaIE improves VLA success rates on simulation benchmarks, with gains of up to $+5.28$ percentage points (pp) on RoboCasa-GR1 and $+1.68$ pp on RoboTwin 2.0, and achieves an average gain of $+19$ pp across five real-world manipulation tasks. It further generalizes to diffusion policies and world models, improving downstream performance in both settings. Our results highlight interface co-adaptation as an important optimization problem when coupling pretrained representations with downstream models.

SpecOPD: Branch-Parallel On-Policy Distillation for Speculative Decoding

Tianyu Liu, Jun Zhang, Wenjie Huang, Yuhao Shen, Tianqi Xu, Xinyue Hao, Hongyaoxing Gu, Xuyang Liu 等 15 位作者

Speculative decoding (SD) accelerates large language model inference by reducing the sequential cost of token-by-token generation. Advanced SD methods reduce proposal cost with parallel drafters that predict entire blocks in one forward pass, but overall speedup still depends on acceptance length. On-policy distillation (OPD) can push well-trained drafters beyond acceptance-length plateaus, yet conventional pipelines collect supervision through sequential draft-and-verify rollouts. Our key insight is that on-policy supervision need not inherit these dependencies: a draft block can be supervised using only its reference prefix and draft-sampled history. We propose SpecOPD, a branch-parallel OPD framework that parallelizes draft sampling and target supervision across independent branches drawn from the evolving drafter policy at reference anchors. We pack these branches into proposal trees to share target-prefix computation, using tree masks for full attention, branch-consistent indexer groups for sparse attention, and indexed state replay for linear attention to preserve each branch's history. We train the drafter with an E2E-TV surrogate that directly targets acceptance length. Our study spans 8B full-attention (GQA), 27B full-linear (GQA--GDN), and 125B sparse-linear (QSA--GDN) targets, three parallel draft architectures (DFlash, DSpark, and DFlash V2), and four task domains (dialogue, coding, mathematics, and agentic). SpecOPD achieves up to 41.45% higher mean acceptance length, $16.09\times$ supervised-token throughput over sequential-rollout OPD under native configurations, and up to $3.56\times$ generation speedup over autoregressive decoding.

Movable Antenna-Assisted Secret Key Generation over Temporally Correlated Channels

Zhiyu Huang, Chen Sun, Guyue Li, Guanghui Wen, Xianbin Wang

Physical-layer key generation (PLKG) exploits reciprocal channel dynamics to generate symmetric keys, addressing the key distribution problem in wireless communications. However, strong temporal correlation in slow-fading environments limits fresh randomness and results in low key generation rates. Movable antennas (MAs) introduce spatial degrees of freedom through antenna repositioning, providing a new approach to addressing the limitation. This paper investigates MA-assisted PLKG over temporally correlated channels. A first-order Gauss-Markov process is utilized to characterize the temporal correlation of multipath gains. We characterize the full-sequence mutual information (MI) over temporally correlated channels. For fixed antenna positions and beamforming, we establish a finite-horizon approximation error bound that vanishes as both effective signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) increase. We derive a closed-form expression for the one-step conditional MI and adopt it as a tractable key-information metric. A nonconvex problem is formulated to jointly optimize antenna positions and per-slot beamforming under transmit-power and minimum-spacing constraints. We develop an alternating optimization algorithm, combining an exact principal-eigenvector beamforming solution with feasible SCA-based projected gradient position updates. Simulation results demonstrate that the MA-assisted scheme outperforms the fixed-position antenna baseline. At a high temporal correlation coefficient, position optimization achieves approximately $51\%$ higher rates than fixed antennas. Joint position and beamforming optimization provides a further $106\%$ gain over position optimization alone, demonstrating more pronounced gains under strong temporal correlation.

Scientific Liquidity Agents: An Agent-Based Model of Knowledge Arbitrage in Scientific Communities

Koutian Wu, You Liu, Yue Liu, Zhiping Li, Ergan Shang

Scientific knowledge gains new uses when ideas, methods, and results move between research contexts. Understanding this process requires a model of both specialized knowledge production and the intermediary activities that connect it. We introduce Scientific Liquidity Agents (SLA), an agent-based model of knowledge arbitrage in scientific communities. SLA represents domain specialists and epistemic arbitrageurs within a shared environment of research problems, researcher interactions, and scientific artifacts. Individual decisions connect to collective state through a belief-desire-intention architecture, a prerequisite-based problem graph, a dynamic interaction network, and a persistent publication registry. The framework makes researcher roles and knowledge-transfer frictions explicit, providing a process-oriented account of scientific production and exchange. Two exploratory simulations with 10 and 18 agents produce 68 and 274 registered papers. In the smaller run, arbitrageurs take part in 16 of the 26 contact pairs that join this community into one connected component, while topical similarity alone splits it into seven. The same run yields three similarity edges, 26 contact pairs, and two coauthorship pairs, so measured community structure depends on what counts as a link. Paper production is abundant, but no recorded replication succeeds, which places the bottleneck in verification rather than production. Solved-problem sets correspond to the prerequisite reachability of the disciplines represented in each community. SLA makes knowledge liquidity, the movement and reuse of artifacts across domains, a quantity that agentic science can simulate and measure.

NAS-PO: Native Attention-Strategy Policy Optimization for Vision-Language Models

Ke An, Shizhe Xiang, Yue Liu, Liang Chen, Pei Fu, Shaojie Zhang, Xiaoxing Hu, Yupei Wang

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has become an effective post-training paradigm for vision-language models (VLMs). Standard RLVR, however, assigns identical outcome-derived credit to all generated tokens regardless of their perceptual relevance. Recent perception-aware methods estimate visual reliance through image perturbation or masking. These indirect proxies require perturbation branches, while corruption sensitivity does not necessarily identify the visual evidence used for reasoning. We instead shape model perception through native attention, an intrinsic model signal. Rather than treating attention as a post-hoc explanation, we formulate it as a reward-anchored, token-aligned routing signal that encourages attention patterns supporting visually grounded reasoning. To this end, we propose NAS-PO, a Native Attention-Strategy Policy Optimization framework. NAS-PO analyzes native attention with a visual mass policy that quantifies visual allocation and a conditional visual policy that captures spatial routing over visual tokens, making the optimization well-posed. Based on this, Native Attention-Strategy Advantage Shaping (NAS-AS) draws on the visual-mass policy to redistribute signed policy-gradient credit for visually engaged rollouts. The Adaptive Attention-Coupled (AAC) loss then aligns the visual-mass policy on all response tokens and the conditional visual policy on visually active ones, consolidating the visual-routing patterns that drive successful trajectories. Experiments demonstrate that NAS-PO substantially surpasses leading RL-tuned VLMs across 7 out-of-domain reasoning and perception benchmarks, with its effectiveness consistently validated across 8B and 32B. Visual-Routing Sensitivity (VRS) analysis further indicates that the optimized attention prioritizes visually load-bearing regions.

Launder-Bench: Can Repository-Level Agentic Code Laundering Be Detected?

Yuntong Hu, Hongji Pu, Zimo Li, Ruomeng Li, Xiaotong Liu, Ziyuan Qin, Qiyue Li, Liang Zhao

Coding agents can now rewrite repository-scale codebases while preserving tested behavior, creating a new challenge for plagiarism detection, license auditing, and software provenance. We ask whether such rewrites can still be traced to their source. Existing clone benchmarks emphasize fragments and bounded edits, while repository-transformation benchmarks evaluate functional correctness rather than provenance. Moreover, ranking the most similar source does not establish derivation when independent implementations can be similarly close. We define repository-level agentic code laundering and introduce Launder-Bench, to our knowledge the first repository-level benchmark for provenance under agentic rewriting, constructed from 282 real-world repositories. A source-hidden reconstruction protocol decomposes source behavior, reconstructs modules and repository structure, and retains rewrites only after execution-based verification. We evaluate the same provenance problem in two complementary settings: Launder-Bench-Pair contains 1,128 pairwise instances asking whether two repositories share provenance, while Launder-Bench-Attr contains 229 source-attribution instances asking which candidate is the source, with abstention when evidence is insufficient. Measured same-domain independent repositories establish how much similarity can arise without shared provenance and provide detector-specific reference bands. Existing methods remain far from saturating Launder-Bench: the strongest static method reaches only 0.66 AUROC on pairwise detection, while repository encoders rank the true source first on up to 22% of attribution queries but earn calibrated attribution credit on only 1-2%. These results reveal a systematic gap between relative code similarity and source-specific provenance evidence, providing a reproducible target for provenance detection under agentic rewriting.

Token-as-a-Utility: A Model-Agnostic Architecture for Metering and Provisioning AI Inference Services

Yichiet Aun, Soung-Yue Liew, Yu Liang Lai, Jing Jie Tan, Dong Chen, Purnomo Husnul Khotimah

Token-based subscriptions are emerging as a commercial model for large language model inference, but extending them into interoperable utility services requires comparable consumption accounting. Raw token counts do not consistently measure inference resource use because demand varies with model architecture, context length, tokenisation, and concurrent serving conditions. This paper presents Token-as-a-Utility, a model-agnostic architecture integrating inference metering, service-level-aware provisioning, and inter-operator settlement. We prove that, under batched serving, no per-request meter can be additive, independent of co-resident traffic, and exactly cost-reflective at once. This motivates separating provisioned capacity, metered consumption, and contracted quality into distinct service products. Consumption is expressed in Reference Inference Units (RIUs) derived from prefill and decode demand, while occupancy-indexed operator ratings recover shared serving costs without altering the common unit. Versioned inference records support auditing and re-rating across operators; software-enforced capacity leases and quality-constrained routing enable provisioning on shared accelerators. The resource model is measured on three NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada GPUs, and multi-tenant behaviour is evaluated with a trace-driven model calibrated to them. For the reference model, occupancy-indexed rating limits statement energy error to 9% under measured traffic, compared with up to 70.5% under fixed-occupancy rating. In calibrated multi-tenant experiments, tenant mispricing decreases from 7.36 times under flat token counting to 2.39 times with RIUs and 1.06 times after occupancy-based reconciliation. These findings demonstrate how portable inference accounting can be combined with load-dependent cost recovery and contract-based provisioning to support heterogeneous inference services across operators.

Assessing AI Companion Chatbot Safety for Vulnerable Users: A Crisis-Stage Multi-Platform Evaluation

Huanyue Liao, Seok Min Lim, Yan Ling Lim, Shi Min Cheng, Kellin Pelrine, Chen Hui Ong

AI companion chatbots are increasingly used by vulnerable individuals, including adolescents in suicidal crisis, for emotional support. Existing safety evaluations focus on base models, leaving gaps in product-level assessment, crisis-stage sensitivity, and comparisons between companion apps and general-purpose LLMs. We introduce MIRROR-Eval (Multi-turn Interaction Risk Review: Observing suicidal-crisis Responses), a dataset of 960 annotated 20-turn conversations across eight deployed platform configurations, six clinically grounded personas, and two crisis stages: ideation and explicit planning. An LLM-as-a-Judge pipeline applies an expert-reviewed rubric covering user risk severity, chatbot risk awareness, and intervention behavior. We observe a three-tier harm structure: companion apps (Character.AI and Replika) and Grok 4.3 form a high-harm tier; Gemini 3.1 Pro is mid-range; GPT-5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5 show substantially lower harm. At planning, companion apps show increased glorification and normalisation, advancement toward harmful action, and harmful methods and instructions. Crisis recognition and empathetic language do not ensure safe responses. These findings highlight the need for product-level safety evaluation across crisis stages. A Survey on Open Dataset Search in the LLM Era: Retrospectives and Perspectives

Pengyue Li, Sheng Wang, Hua Dai, Zhiyu Chen, Zhifeng Bao, Brian D. Davison

High-quality datasets are typically required for accomplishing data-driven tasks, such as training medical diagnosis models, predicting real-time traffic conditions, or conducting experiments to validate research hypotheses. Consequently, open dataset search, which aims to ensure the efficient and accurate fulfillment of users' dataset requirements, has emerged as a critical research challenge and has attracted widespread interest. Recent studies have made notable progress in enhancing the flexibility and intelligence of open dataset search, and large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated strong potential in addressing long-standing challenges in this area. Therefore, a systematic and comprehensive review of the open dataset search problem is essential, detailing the current state of research and exploring future directions. In this survey, we focus on recent advances in open dataset search beyond traditional approaches that rely on metadata and keywords. From the perspective of dataset modalities, we place particular emphasis on example-based dataset search, advanced similarity measurement techniques based on dataset content, and efficient search acceleration techniques. In addition, we emphasize the mutually beneficial relationship between LLMs and open dataset search. On the one hand, LLMs help address complex challenges in query understanding, semantic modeling, and interactive guidance within open dataset search. In turn, advances in dataset search can support LLMs by enabling more effective integration into retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) frameworks and data selection processes, thereby enhancing downstream task performance. Finally, we summarize open research problems and outline promising directions for future work. This work aims to offer a structured reference for researchers and practitioners in the field of open dataset search.

TreemapMix: Dirichlet-Controlled Multi-Image Augmentation for Probability and Ordinal Supervision

Ejafa Bassam, Konstantin Garbers, Yingsheng Geng, Dalton Jens, Jiaxu Qian, Guyue Liu

Data augmentation improves visual recognition by exposing models to synthetic training examples that encourage generalization beyond the observed data. Mixed-sample methods extend this idea by combining multiple images. However, many common approaches either mix only pairs of images or rely on fixed small layouts, limiting control over source count, visible area proportions, and induced supervision. We propose TreemapMix, a distribution-controlled multi-image augmentation that samples source weights from a Dirichlet distribution and assigns them to area-proportional regions using a treemap partition. The resulting known region areas support two complementary objectives. TreemapMix with soft cross-entropy (SCE) treats areas as soft class-probability targets, while TreemapMix with a Plackett-Luce (PL) objective converts areas into ordinal supervision. On ImageNet-1K under matched training recipes, TreemapMix-SCE achieves substantially lower calibration error than evaluated mixed-sample baselines, while TreemapMix-PL achieves the strongest Top-1 accuracy. Transfer experiments on object detection and instance segmentation suggest that TreemapMix-pretrained features remain useful beyond classification. These results show that controlled multi-image composition can expose the same region-area information as either probability-matching or rank-matching supervision. Code is available at https://github.com/Ejafa/treemapmix.

SWE-Bench ProMax: Benchmarking Agents on Large-Scale Multilingual Code Refactoring

Yuling Shi, Jinghan Xu, Kelin Fu, Wenhao Zeng, Shilin He, Lei Zhang, Yue Liu, Zelin Zhao 等 15 位作者

As AI coding agents take on increasingly complex, long-horizon software engineering tasks, existing benchmarks are rapidly saturating and their evaluation quality has come under serious scrutiny: a recent audit found that nearly 60% of unsolved SWE-bench Verified instances contain flawed tests -- either overly narrow tests that reject correct solutions or overly broad tests that check unstated requirements -- and that frontier models can verbatim reproduce gold patches from training data. Code refactoring, which requires coordinated, behavior-preserving changes across many files, offers a substantially harder and more realistic test of agent capability, yet remains underserved by current benchmarks. We introduce SWE-Bench ProMax, an expert-curated, multilingual code refactoring benchmark of 170 instances drawn from real commits across seven programming languages (Python, Java, TypeScript, Go, C, C++, and Rust). Every instance undergoes rigorous, multi-stage curation that directly addresses the quality problems identified in prior benchmarks: issue descriptions are rewritten from scratch to provide precise, unambiguous specifications, and test suites are manually reviewed to remove overly narrow and overly broad tests. Tasks with insufficient complexity or limited cross-file scope are filtered out, yielding a benchmark of challenging, large-scale refactoring tasks that average 11.5 modified files and 261.6 lines of code per instance, substantially exceeding the scale of existing benchmarks. Experiments with frontier models under two agent scaffolds show that the best model achieves only 41.2% resolve rate, confirming that SWE-Bench ProMax presents a meaningful and unsaturated challenge for current AI coding agents. Our benchmark is available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/swe-bench-promax/SWE-Bench-ProMax.

Memorize When Needed: Decoupled Memory Control for Spatially Consistent Long-Horizon Video Generation

Yanjun Guo, Zhengqiang Zhang, Pengfei Wang, Xinyue Liang, Zhiyuan Ma, Lei Zhang

Spatially consistent long-horizon video generation aims to maintain temporal and spatial consistency along predefined camera trajectories. Existing methods mostly entangle memory modeling with video generation, leading to inconsistent content during scene revisits and diminished generative capacity when exploring novel regions, even when trained on extensive annotated data. To address these limitations, we propose a decoupled framework that separates memory conditioning from generation. Our approach significantly reduces training costs while simultaneously enhancing spatial consistency and preserving the generative capacity for novel scene exploration. Specifically, we employ a lightweight, independent memory branch to learn precise spatial consistency from historical observations. We first introduce a hybrid memory representation to capture complementary temporal and spatial cues from generated frames, then leverage a per-frame cross-attention mechanism to ensure each frame is conditioned exclusively on the most spatially relevant historical information, which is injected into the generative model to ensure spatial consistency. When generating new scenes, a camera-aware gating mechanism is proposed to mediate the interaction between memory and generation modules, enabling memory conditioning only when meaningful historical references exist. Compared with the existing method, our method is highly data-efficient, yet the experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both visual quality and spatial consistency. RPSD: Retrieval-Privileged On-Policy Self-Distillation with Optimal Transport

Dongyue Li, Zebang Cheng, Zhongyi Deng, Hongboxu, Yi Bin, Fei Ma

Sequential recommendation predicts a user's next interaction from historical behavior. Recent LLM-based methods recast this task as generative recommendation and increasingly adopt reinforcement learning such as GRPO for post-training. However, these methods suffer from two limitations, namely credit-blind optimization, where a sequence-level reward is shared across all generated tokens, and collaborative-blind supervision, where each training signal is derived from a single user and ignores behavioral patterns shared across similar users. To address both issues, we propose Retrieval-Privileged on-policy Self-Distillation (RPSD). For credit-blind optimization, we introduce on-policy self-distillation (OPSD), in which a teacher with privileged knowledge re-evaluates the student's on-policy response, and the token-level confidence difference between the student and teacher reshapes the shared sequence-level advantage into token-specific credit. However, the privileged knowledge in vanilla OPSD is still derived from a single user, leaving collaborative-blind supervision unresolved. We therefore ground the teacher in collaborative behavioral evidence from similar users. Specifically, we use temporally aware optimal transport (OT) to compare interaction trajectories across users by jointly considering item similarity and temporal structure, and further apply diversity-aware selection to retain complementary trajectories as privileged evidence. In this way, on-policy self-distillation provides fine-grained token-level credit, while OT enriches the teacher with structured cross-user evidence. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to bring on-policy self-distillation to sequential recommendation and to use cross-user behavior as its privileged signal. Extensive experiments across multiple real-world datasets demonstrate that RPSD achieves state-of-the-art performance.

Rethinking Positional Encoding and Interaction Granularity for CTR Prediction

Xinxun Zhang, Yuxiang Wang, Xiaokai Zhou, Jiayue Li, Yi Li, Yue Liu, Jun Zhang, Xiaoling Zhou 等 11 位作者

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction relies on historical behaviors and contextual features to estimate clicks on a target item. Existing Transformer-based CTR models often adopt index-based or temporal positional encodings and token-level causal interaction. However, we observe that most existing positional encodings do not outperform NoPE, while relaxing causal constraints within target-relative temporal groups also yields gains. These observations motivate a fundamental question: what positional encoding and interaction granularity does CTR prediction actually require? To address this question, we propose \textbf{TRIP}, which combines target-aware rank--time positional encoding with temporal-group interaction modeling. Specifically, Factorized Rank Encoding represents each behavior's ordinal position within the historical sequence through a low-rank factorization, while Target-Relative Time Encoding characterizes its temporal distance to the target on a coarse-to-fine scale. This joint design grounds each behavior's positional representation in its sequence context and temporal relation to the current target. Furthermore, Temporal Group-Causal Interaction enriches intra-group representations through bidirectional interaction and masked reconstruction while preserving inter-group causal order. Finally, behavior representations are condensed into compact group summaries for efficient group-level modeling in subsequent layers. Experiments on four public benchmarks show that TRIP improves AUC by up to 4.45\% relative to the strongest baseline.

Evolve on Graph: Self-Evolving Knowledge Graph Reasoning without Question Annotations

Zongyuan Sun, Shuai Zhao, Ke Shu, Ziyue Zhu, Shangyang Wu, Yuanlin Lin, Tao Wang, Shiyue Li 等 11 位作者

Knowledge graphs (KGs) provide reliable external knowledge for multi-hop factual reasoning with large language models (LLMs), yet most KGs in real-world domains such as finance and industry lack question--answer (QA) annotations. Without such annotations, existing methods struggle to improve LLM graph reasoning: training-free agents cannot improve their exploration through interaction; reinforcement learning (RL) agents depend on QA data annotated by humans or synthesized by closed-source models; and training data is typically built offline, so its topology mix is fixed and cannot follow the agent's ability. We propose Evolve on Graph (EoG), a framework that lets an LLM self-evolve its graph reasoning without any QA annotations. Through Graph Self-Play, a single LLM alternates between a Proposer that poses questions and a Solver that answers them. To make questions verifiable, Symbolically Verifiable Topology Synthesis (SVTS) samples reasoning topologies on the KG and executes the corresponding first-order logic queries, yielding topology skeletons with correct and complete answer sets; guided by a skeleton, the Proposer explores the graph to pose a multi-hop question. To let task topologies follow the Solver, a Boundary-Aware Graph Curriculum rewards the Proposer by the Solver's score variance, keeping questions at the Solver's capability boundary so that complex topologies enter training as the Solver improves. On six benchmarks over Freebase, Wikidata, and an industrial KG, EoG consistently outperforms prompting-, retrieval-, and agent-based methods, showing that LLM graph reasoning can improve through self-play without QA annotations. Our code is available at https://github.com/Szy5/EoG

HoloBoxing: A Simple Recipe for Humanoid Boxing with 7 Minutes of Single-GPU Training

Xihan Ma, Bo Zhang, Boxiong Li, Yuhan Bao, Ziyue Liu, Yucheng Wang

HoloBoxing presents a simple recipe for learning humanoid boxing by building on a pretrained whole-body controller. The recipe separates reusable motor skills from task decisions: a compact planner requests future body-point targets, while the frozen controller handles joint-level execution. A learned decoder maps 32-dimensional actions to structured target windows, and measured-state imitation initializes the planner before reinforcement learning. Task learning then refines interaction behavior while reusing the decoder and controller, avoiding the need to relearn whole-body control. This combination keeps task optimization focused on a compact upper policy and supplies an initial behavior before reward-driven exploration. Starting from that available controller, the recipe accounts for about seven minutes of additional training, including reused representation fitting and a single-GPU task run. This excludes controller pretraining, data preparation, evaluation, and search. Simulated boxing experiments and component controls evaluate the resulting behavior and the roles of imitation initialization and the target representation.

Beyond Modeling Order: Dual-Path Spatiotemporal Representation Learning for Cross-Subject EEG Emotion Recognition

Zehui Xiao, Yi Zheng, Guixing Fu, Wenkai Lu, Lingfei He, Tao Tan, Yue Liu, Silun Wang 等 10 位作者

Cross-subject generalization remains a major challenge for EEG-based emotion recognition due to pronounced inter-subject variability in neural activity and emotion-related spatiotemporal patterns. Existing methods mainly alleviate inter subject differences through distribution alignment or contrastive learning, while paying limited attention to representation bias associated with fixed spatiotemporal modeling orders. We hypothesize that high-level emotion representations of the same EEG signal should remain consistent across different spatiotemporal modeling paths. Based on this hypothesis, we propose a Dual-Path Spatiotemporal Contrastive Learning (DP-STCL) framework for cross-subject EEG emotion recognition. DP-STCL employs two complementary encoders with independent parameters, namely a Temporal-to-Spatial (TS) path and a Spatial to-Temporal (ST) path, to model EEG spatiotemporal information under different integration orders. During representation learning, the same emotional stimulus is used to establish cross subject associations, while three complementary relations jointly constrain representation variations across subjects and modeling paths. This promotes stable and discriminative stimulus-related emotion representations. To further handle limited labeled target subject data, we introduce a LoRA-based few-shot adaptation strategy with low parameter overhead. Extensive cross-subject experiments on SEED, SEED-IV, SEED-V, and FACED show that DP-STCL consistently outperforms the compared methods, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving cross-subject EEG emotion recognition.

EmbodiedLab: Benchmarking Embodied Agents That Act to Know

Hongcheng Gao, Zelin Zheng, Alex Zhou, Jay Zhu, Shijia Ge, Yazhe Wang, Xiping Li, Jianshu Zeng 等 21 位作者

Embodied agents are expected to accomplish real-world goals by deciding for themselves how and when to interact with their surroundings. For many such goals, changing the physical state of the world is the means rather than the end: the agent changes the state of a system through interaction, observes the feedback, and explores until it either achieves the goal itself (e.g., discovering physical laws) or learns what the goal requires; it acts to know. Manipulation benchmarks stop at acting to change, with the target state given; scientific discovery benchmarks evaluate knowing but replace physical experimentation with symbolic actions or numerical queries. We introduce EmbodiedLab, a benchmark in which a robot must act to know. Quantitative science experiments make this setting controllable: the parameters of the system are resampled for every instance, so the result cannot be known in advance, yet it can be scored exactly. Across 30 experiments in five disciplines on 14 apparatus platforms, the agent receives an objective and the apparatus, chooses its own procedure, and operates a physics-based simulated laboratory, reading the instruments through its cameras. Evaluation checks what the agent came to know, grounded in readings recorded during the episode, as well as the physical state the task requires; every experiment is verified to be solvable. We evaluate six frontier models in their developers' coding agents with native observation and control, with added perception and motion planning, and with manipulation skills distilled from the strongest agents. With native control, even the strongest agent succeeds less than half the time; for every agent, most failures arise in interacting with the apparatus, and manipulation skills help weaker agents more than perception and planning. The benchmark and its evaluation code are available at https://github.com/HexaFuture/EmbodiedLab.
