Characterizing Adversarial GEO via Implicit Brand Injection

Shobhnik Kriplani, Haohan Wang

原文摘要

Generative search engines increasingly shape how users discover products, services, and commercial entities by generating answers from retrieved web content. This creates an opportunity to influence which brands appear in these answers by modifying the content available to the retrieval system. In this work, we study an adversarial generative engine optimization (GEO) setting in which a predefined brand is added to an article through a single contextually integrated mention. The challenge is to make the mention fit the surrounding article without making the content overtly promotional, while keeping it relevant enough to be retrieved and to influence the generated answer. To study this, we introduce Implicit Brand Injection (IBI), a multi-agent framework that identifies insertion locations, rewrites the selected sentence, verifies the edit, and selects the final candidate. To evaluate IBI at scale, we construct IBIBench, which contains 1,000 web articles and 60 synthetic brands across 12 diverse domains, with both endemic and non-endemic brand placements. We compare IBI with Direct Prompting and Best-of-N with ranking under an equivalent budget, evaluating insertion quality, target-chunk retrieval, and downstream brand propagation. Compared with the baselines, IBI produces insertions that better preserve semantics and disrupt perplexity less, while improving Hit@k across all evaluated cutoffs, query regimes, and placement settings. IBI achieves up to 82.2% Hit@10 and 0.74 MRR@10, while Brand Mention Rate (BMR) and Conditional Propagation (CP) reach up to 62.7% and 75.9%, respectively. These results show that a single brand mention can increase both retrieval exposure and brand visibility in generated responses, highlighting the need for defenses against implicit content manipulation in generative search.

Who Built This Model? Tracing LLM Lineage via Spectral Fingerprints in Weight Space

Yiwei Chen, Bingqi Shang, Sijia Liu

原文摘要

Open-weight large language models (LLMs) are increasingly developed through complex, multi-stage pipelines, leading to intricate lineage relationships that reflect model origin, ownership, and evolution. Understanding these relationships is important for model provenance, governance, and supply-chain integrity. In this work, we investigate the notion of LLM "biometrics" (analogous to human biometrics) to ask whether LLMs exhibit intrinsic fingerprints in weight space alone, without access to input data, that reveal their origin and lineage. We formulate this as a lineage discrimination problem, distinguishing among independent-origin, same-series, and shared-base models. To characterize these relationships, we propose a unified geometric fingerprinting framework that analyzes weight matrices from two complementary perspectives: (i) spectral energy, captured by singular value distributions to encode global magnitude patterns, and (ii) subspace alignment, quantified via subspace deviations to capture directional geometry. Our analysis uncovers a clear hierarchy of structural similarity in weight space: spectral energy reliably distinguishes independently trained models and different model families, while subspace alignment enables fine-grained discrimination among closely related models, including variations in dataset scale and post-training procedures. Extensive experiments on over 110 diverse open-weight LLM pairs demonstrate that weight-space geometry provides a robust and interpretable signal for model lineage, enabling coarse-grained regime separation and fine-grained discrimination within shared-base models.

WASP-Mem: Let Agent Organize Procedural Memory. Human Spend Effort on Diagnosis

Peizhi Niu, Ge Shi, Vaibhav Gorde, Sarthak Ghosh, Christos Faloutsos, Min Cheng, Kevin Chen

原文摘要

LLM agents struggle to automate complex enterprise procedures because static, pre-built harness cannot capture proprietary policies, undocumented behaviors, or state-dependent recovery paths that surface only during execution. Procedural memory accrued from agent experience offers a training-free path to closing this gap -- yet unlike episodic records or semantic facts, it must consolidate repeated successes and diagnosed failures into reusable actions and recovery strategies. We introduce WASP-Mem (Wiki-based Agent-Synthesized Procedural Memory), a nimble but effective method that distills execution traces and feedback into persistent, interlinked wiki pages, enabling continual agent learning. On TheAgentCompany benchmark, WASP-Mem raises the checkpoint pass rate by 4.6-6.1% over the strongest baseline we compared across three models while requiring 57-61% less storage. We further present a systematic controlled study spanning consolidation method, feedback type, trace ingestion scope, and refinement rounds. Our results reveal that prescriptive knowledge organization such as human defined schemas and explicit deduplication rules hurts performance rather than closing the procedural-knowledge gap. In contrast, human diagnosis converts failed traces into corrective knowledge and drives sustained improvement: a single round of human diagnosis outperforms four rounds of self-judgment by 7.0-10.9%. These findings point to a simple division of labor: let agents organize procedural memory, and invest human effort where it matters most -- diagnosis.

Measure Before You Repair: An Explainable Agent for Blind Restoration of Multi-Artifact 3-D MRI

Necati Sefercioglu, Mehmet Ozan Unal, Metin Ertas, Altan Cakir, Isa Yildirim

原文摘要

A brain MRI scan can carry an unknown mix of artifacts, so restoration has to be blind, yet most deep-learning methods are built to correct one known artifact. We present Dx-Rx, an agent in which a multimodal large language model (MLLM) measures suspected artifacts before it repairs them. To our knowledge, it is the first agent to restore whole 3-D MRI volumes, whereas earlier MRI agents restore 2-D slices. In a loop, it looks at slices of the 3-D volume, calls five diagnostic tools (noise, spike, ghosting, bias field, motion) and four restoration tools in any order it chooses, checks each repair, can return to any earlier version to change the order, and ends with a radiology-style report of its diagnostic reasons, the repairs it applied and their results. We simulated up to five artifacts on 148 whole 3-D T1-weighted volumes, at levels calibrated to radiologists' grades of real scans. An MLLM that only looked at the image, as earlier MRI agents do, removed at most 19.7 % of the artifact error. With the best of five MLLMs, Dx-Rx removed a mean 64.5 %, nearly matching the 64.6 % of the same tools given the ground-truth artifacts, which are never known for a clinical scan. With all five models, it made no volume worse and was on par with or better than an expert rule-based pipeline built from the same tools (62.3 %). Code and demo are public at https://itu-biai.github.io/measure-before-you-repair.

When Music Needs Meaning: Semantic Communication as a Transformative Enabler for the Musical Metaverse

Ali Al Housseini, Jaime Llorca, Cristina Rottondi, Luca Turchet, Tiziano Leidi, Omran Ayoub

原文摘要

The Musical Metaverse (MM) enables geographically distributed musicians, audiences, sound engineers, and AI agents to interact through synchronized audio, visual, kinematic, and haptic streams, imposing latency, synchronization, bandwidth, and scalability requirements that are difficult to satisfy with conventional bit-level communication. This paper argues that semantic communication, understood here as the transmission of musically meaningful information rather than raw audio-visual-haptic samples, provides a principled communication paradigm for the MM. We define the MM from a communication perspective and derive modality-specific require ments; propose a three-pillar framework for musical semantic communication comprising semantics extraction, semantic-aware orchestration, and cross-modal semantic synchronization; survey representative work across semantic communication, music AI and edge orchestration, identifying the gaps that prevent their integration; and propose a semantic-first reference architecture based on device-side semantic encoders, edge semantic routers, and cross-modal semantic synchronization. The resulting framework positions the MM as a concrete and demanding use case for 6G semantic communication.

原文摘要

Designing and authoring high-performance custom kernels for accelerators is a complex task that requires deep hardware-level expertise. Large Language Models (LLM) can be leveraged together with real-time compiler feedback to build agentic systems for kernel generation. In this work, we present MaxKernel, a multi-agent system that implements three distinct paradigms for TPU kernel development: (1) a Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) agent for collaborative, step-by-step design; (2) an Autonomous (Auto) agent that executes a fully automated, metric/trace-driven optimization loop; and (3) a Graph-Based Autonomous Search that scales the Auto agent for global exploration of the design space. All three paradigms leverage a shared pool of specialized sub-agents to handle planning, implementation, self-debugging, testing, and hardware profiling. We evaluate MaxKernel on JaxBench, a comprehensive suite of 50 diverse kernel tasks for TPUs, alongside complex, real-world workloads from state-of-the-art open-source models. We demonstrate that MaxKernel consistently generates highly optimized implementations, matching expert hand-tuned baselines and delivering significant performance across the benchmark. Our agent is open-sourced and available https://github.com/AI-Hypercomputer/accelerator-agents/tree/main/MaxKernel.

Whose startup does the AI back? An algorithm audit of reputation and demographic signals in LLM-assisted crowdfunding

Mirza Samad Ahmed Baig, Syeda Anshrah Gillani

原文摘要

Large language model (LLM) assistants increasingly advise backers on which crowdfunding campaigns to support. LLMs have known race and gender problems, and it is unsettled whether they reproduce, erase, or reverse the discrimination documented in entrepreneurial finance. We ask when, and through which decision process, LLM assistants use founders' gender and ethnicity. In a pre-specified choice-based conjoint experiment, seven LLMs chose among five synthetic campaigns with independently randomized quality signals and founder names, under three backer personas and a persona-free control (40,248 responses). By default, founder names barely matter: under budget-conscious and delivery-focused personas, gender and Black-name effects are statistically equivalent to zero. When the backer wants to support underrepresented creators, the models favor Black-signaled (+8.1 percentage points; positive in all seven models) and female-signaled (+5.1) founders. They do so most strongly among near-tied campaigns and for the founder who alone carries the signal, and they almost never name gender or ethnicity in their reasons. The results fit an agency account of algorithmic discrimination: an aligned assistant takes its demographic preferences from its user rather than from its training data.

FlagRot: Selective Rotation for Low-Bit KV Caches

Kunming Shao, Xijie Huang, Jierun Chen, Jiaqi Shao, Yanli Wang, Jiangnan Yu, Qiwei Li, Wei Zhang 等 10 位作者

原文摘要

Long-context inference is bound by the KV cache, which 2-bit codes could shrink about sixfold if their error stays in check. The usual remedy rotates keys before quantizing, assuming rotation always helps. However, we observe that it does not: rotation flattens a spiky piece of a key but can give a flat one a new peak, and both coexist within one key. We therefore propose FlagRot, which stores each 32-channel piece rotated or as is, whichever has the smaller calibrated attention error, and rotates the query instead when reading. We further show that how often to decide follows the quantization axis: per-channel caches such as KIVI need one decision per head, at no write cost, while per-token caches decide per key, with the choice stored in existing sign bits. At 2.5 bits per value, FlagRot lowers the twelve-model KL divergence of KIVI from 18.7 to 12.4 x 10^-3, below RotateKV on 9 of 12 models. Served as a vLLM plugin, it raises RULER at 128k tokens by +2.9 points and the LongBench v1 mean by +0.4 to +1.9 points on the three of four models where 2-bit KIVI loses accuracy. It also lowers the error of 4-bit integer and FP4 caches.

Closing the Lab-to-Store Gap: A Data-Efficient Post-Training and Experience-Driven Learning VLA Framework for Retail Humanoids

Roger Sala Sisó, Tiago Silvério, Jakob Sand, Tran Nguyen Le

原文摘要

Closing the gap between benchmark performance and reliable real-world operation remains a central challenge for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) humanoid robots, which must handle execution errors, distribution shifts, and environmental variability. This paper presents DEED (Data-Efficient Post-Training and Experience-Driven Learning), a systems-level approach evaluated on a supermarket chip-restocking task using a Unitree G1-Edu humanoid robot and the GR00T N1.6 foundation model. DEED comprises three key components: (1) a data-efficient post-training pipeline with control-frequency alignment, data curation, task-relevant visual highlighting, and reduced VLA dependence; (2) a real-world study of experience-driven refinement, adapted from RECAP via a text-based advantage prefix and a vision-language value function; and (3) a latent-space analysis tool for studying in- and out-of-distribution behavior. Our results suggest that bridging the lab-to-store gap is primarily a systems integration challenge rather than an architectural one: careful data design and targeted post-training can transform a policy that fails under naive fine-tuning into a competent real-world system using only a single GPU.

Towards Trustworthy Physical Intelligence: From Theory to Practice Across Life Cycle

Yang Wang, Hongxuan Liu, Xinghui Xu, Arjun Menon, Xiaoran Cai, Yunyu He, Alex Tarvo, Jingzong Zhou 等 43 位作者

原文摘要

Physical intelligence refers to intelligence systems that understand, reason about and act in accordance with the physical world and its underlying laws, dynamics, and constraints. Unlike conventional AI systems, physical intelligence interacts continuously with uncertain physical environments, and its actions produce consequences that are physically irreversible. As existing trustworthy AI frameworks have been developed primarily for digital AI systems, they do not fully capture the distinctive challenges of Physical Intelligence, such as physical safety, cyber-physical security, and physical manufacturing process. To address this gap, our paper develop a foundation for understanding, operationalizing, and governing trustworthy physical intelligence. First, we characterize the fundamental capabilities of physical intelligence. Second, we investigate the role of physical laws and principles in AI and analyze the associated challenges of physical intelligence. Third, we provide a unified structure of the end-to-end physical intelligence life cycle across five core stages and introduce the Trustworthy Physical Intelligence Operationalization (T-PAIO) framework. Fourth, we formulate the Trustworthy Physical Intelligence (T-PAI) Principles as a theoretical framework that synthesizes key trustworthiness dimensions and establishes a conceptual foundation for the governance of physical intelligence systems.

Thinking Fast, Trading Late: System One Decision Models vs the Market

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) read company news at scale, and backtests suggest that their readings predict stock returns. We ask how much of that predictability survives a test that rules out look-ahead, memorization and selection. We propose OLIVIA, a protocol for such tests: point-in-time inputs with company identities masked, selection on validation data only, an analysis plan frozen by cryptographic hash, and a test period unblinded once through a logged lock. We apply it to AI decision models, non-generative language models that return probabilities for typed questions, reading news about S&P 500 stocks: an open-weights model we fine-tuned on 2024-2025 data, three commercial models and standard baselines. The fine-tuned model's signal replicated on two validation quarters (daily information coefficients 0.055 and 0.065) but fell to 0.020 (t = 1.7) on the blinded January-July 2026 test. The commercial models' readings line up with the overnight move to the open (information coefficient 0.074 to 0.077) but not with the move after it, so the news is priced by the time a trader can act on it at the open. No model can tell over- from under-reaction, and no pre-registered strategy survives costs and a deflated Sharpe ratio. Commercial models identify masked companies in 62% to 74% of cases against a 28% baseline: masking hides names, not companies. The market reads the news first.

原文摘要

Translating population-level exercise guidance into individualized prescriptions requires integrating clinical and wearable data, including diagnoses, medications, functional limitations, and baseline activity, with condition-specific recommendations, a process difficult to scale beyond specialist rehabilitation settings. We developed FITTER, a multi-agent framework that integrates these data with condition-specific guidance to generate personalized FITT-VP prescriptions and applies deterministic safety audit and repair to correct rule-checkable violations. We evaluated FITTER using data from 400 All of Us participants (300 cancer, 100 stroke) against five LLM comparators through computational evaluation, ablation, and structured clinician review. FITTER achieved 98.5% safety-constraint compliance versus 75.8-85.8% for comparators and showed greater quantitative dosing precision and guideline alignment. Cancer-cohort ablation identified safety audit and repair as the largest contributor to safety-constraint compliance. Clinicians reviewed 80 prescriptions across safety, personalization, instruction concreteness, anticipated effectiveness, and clinical acceptability. FITTER provides a clinician-facing approach integrating clinical and wearable data, guidance, and explicit safety constraints.

SLATE: A Large-Scale Benchmark for Long-Horizon API Selection in E-commerce Tool Use

Rongzhe Wei, Ge Shi, Min Cheng, Sarthak Ghosh, Vaibhav Gorde, Leman Akoglu, Pan Li, Na Zhang

原文摘要

Enterprises increasingly want LLM agents to automate standard operating procedures over their software stacks -- mapping each step of a procedure to the right call among thousands of internal APIs, without hand-authored step-to-API mappings. The core difficulty is API selection at scale: choosing and composing the correct tools over a long horizon, judged only by whether the overall task succeeds. Current tool-use benchmarks do not test this regime -- they expose only a handful of tools, evaluate single-step invocation, or grade multi-step behavior with subjective LLM-as-a-judge scores that penalize valid alternative trajectories. We introduce SLATE (Synthetic Large-scale API Toolkit for E-commerce), a large-scale benchmark that tests large-toolset, long-horizon API selection in a realistic enterprise domain. SLATE couples (i) queries decomposed into hierarchical, tool-grounded procedures over a ~1,000-tool e-commerce library, (ii) a deterministic, context-aware simulator that returns recorded outputs for matching calls and default responses otherwise, and (iii) an end-to-end task-success metric -- a task succeeds when it reaches every reference outcome -- that credits diverse-but-valid trajectories while remaining fully automatic and reproducible. Experiments with six open decision models and the language models they are built on, from 3B to 12B parameters, show that even the best model completes only 5.0% of the tasks, establishing SLATE as a challenging testbed for reliable enterprise tool use. We release SLATE, its simulator, and the evaluation harness at https://geshijoker.github.io/slate/

Measuring Model-Specific Alignment Drift in LLM-Based Opinion Dynamics

Nataša Djurdjevac Conrad, Sebastian Pokutta, Christof Schütte

原文摘要

Large language model (LLM) agents are increasingly used as synthetic participants in opinion-dynamics experiments, often assuming that an agent's behaviour is fully determined by its prompt. We test this assumption with a framework in which LLM agents discuss a contested policy issue over repeated rounds while their stance is quantified by a fixed psychometric instrument independent of any dynamics model. Across six LLMs, committed personas are intrinsically stable: in each of the five models tested without peer input, every agent keeps its assigned side for 20 rounds. The observed loss of alignment under discussion is therefore interaction-induced, we call it alignment drift, and model-specific: gpt-4.1 keeps opinion clusters apart, claude-sonnet-5 holds them partially, and gpt-5.6-sol and claude-opus-5 abandon them. Under selective attention, one LLM maintains separated opinion clusters under stance-homophilous attention. Qualitative profiles persist at doubled population and horizon and on a second issue. Such heterogeneity makes the LLM choice a first-class validity variable for social simulation.

From Senses to Decisions: The Information Flow of Auditory and Visual Perception in Multimodal LLMs

Wish Suharitdamrong, Muhammad Awais, Xiatian Zhu, Sara Atito

原文摘要

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) can listen and see, but how do audio and visual signals actually travel through the network to shape an answer? Despite their growing role in research and real-world applications, the internal pathways through which audio and visual tokens influence the final prediction remain poorly understood. In this study, we examine audio-visual information flow inside Audio-Visual Large Language Models (AVLLMs), tracing how AVLLMs route, utilize, and integrate audio and visual information across two input configurations, audio-visual video and multiple interleaved audio-visual items. We find that for audio-visual video, AVLLMs follow the sequential information flow pathway established for VLMs and VideoLLMs, with audio and visual contribution flowing along this pathway in proportion to the task's reliance on each modality. In settings with multiple interleaved audio-visual items, this routing shifts to different parallel streams. Furthermore, we demonstrate that audio-visual and other token types can be discarded once their information is transferred to LLM, with minimal impact on the model's prediction or even slight improvement, generalizing across multiple tasks and datasets, enabling more efficient inference. These findings hold across multiple models and scales, Qwen2.5-Omni and Video-SALMONN2 Plus at 3B and 7B scales, leading to hypotheses on why these flow structures emerge. Together, these results deliver the first coherent picture of how AVLLMs orchestrate sound and sight inside the network and lay the groundwork for the next wave of interpretability, design, and efficiency advances in audio-visual and broader MLLMs.

Must AI Spell It Out? Pragmatic Comprehension of Alerts in a Time-Critical Task

Anwesha Das, Vera Demberg, Anna Maria Feit

原文摘要

Assistive systems typically tell users everything, often spending time and attention on what a user already knows, leaving less for what happens next. People, on the other hand, leave out what they expect the listener can supply. Can people use their prior knowledge to understand an incomplete message when the speaker is a machine though? We studied this pragmatic comprehension in a monitoring task controlling users' prior knowledge and the available time to detect critical situations. In a preregistered study (N=114), we compared a pragmatic planner that reasons over a model of the listener's knowledge to decide what to say, when, and how explicitly, with a baseline specifying problems fully in onset order. Participants resolved underspecified alerts almost as reliably as fully specified ones and sooner, detected more problems, and rated the pragmatic assistant helpful more often, with no increase in reported mental demand. Our findings show that people can recover what the system left implicit and that pragmatic communication can support effective assistance under the constraints of a changing world.

Stacking-Based Weighting for Large Language Bayes in M-Open Settings

Anant Bhide, Akarsh Gupta, Edmond Cunningham, Justin Domke

原文摘要

Large Language Bayes (LLB) transforms a natural language problem description into a collection of candidate probabilistic programs and performs inference within each model, combining their predictions using Bayesian model averaging. While this provides a flexible framework for probabilistic inference without manual model specification, the resulting candidate model set is often misspecified in practice, and likelihood-based aggregation can concentrate on a single model, under-representing uncertainty across the sampled models. We propose a stacking-based aggregation method for LLB that selects model weights by optimizing predictive performance rather than marginal likelihood, while preserving the original language-model-driven model generation and within-model inference pipeline. Because leave-one-out predictive quantities are intractable in latent-variable models, we derive a variational lower bound that yields a tractable ELBO-based stacking objective. Across real-world probabilistic inference tasks, our method achieves comparable predictive performance to Bayesian model averaging while yielding more dispersed model weights, reducing concentration on a single candidate model under misspecification.

ProteoCraft: Protein Design as Proposal-Verification Search

原文摘要

Protein-protein interactions underpin nearly all biological processes. Yet, designing proteins with desired interactions remains challenging due to the structural complexity governing molecular recognition. This study views protein design as a search optimization problem over a combinatorial sequence space under expensive structural evaluation. Toward this goal, we introduce a novel tree-based search framework, ProteoCraft, that employs approximate structural gradients from diffusion-based structure predictors as effective proposal policies to specify where the search should explore. Complete no-gradient inference of folding models separately assigns values to the resulting sequences, determining what is good. ProteoCraft allocates this verification budget through a coarse-to-fine paradigm: multi-site edits first explore distinct sequence basins, then verified promising states undergo strict single-site refinement. Across fourteen de novo binder-design settings spanning eight target proteins, five immune-relevant TCR-facing targets, and four localized CDR redesign tasks, ProteoCraft improves design quality and high-confidence yield. These improvements persist under independent AF2-IG and Rosetta-based interface evaluation. Prospective experimental validation further yielded an 82.9% binding hit rate for PD-L1 miniproteins, with a best measured KD of 0.879 nM, and confirmed binding of designed IFNAR2 VHH. Balancing Chain-of-Thought and Answer Supervision for Small Language Models on Medical Question Answering

Le Zhou, Xiao Luo, Chinmay Chandra, Zhan Zhang

原文摘要

Small language models (<=9B parameters) can support local medical question answering (QA) while reducing privacy and latency concerns, but effective fine-tuning remains challenging. This paper compares two chain-of-thought (CoT) supervised fine-tuning methods: Uniform-across-Sequence (UaS), which applies equal loss weighting to the full CoT-and-answer sequence, and Segment-weighted (SwS), which separately weights CoT and answer losses. We evaluate six general- and medical-domain models on multiple-choice QA (MedQA and EMS-MCQA) and free-text QA (Med-O1). Results show that neither method is universally best: on multiple-choice QA (MedQA and EMS-MCQA), SwS generally performs better, with general-purpose models benefiting most; notably, Qwen3.5-4B improves by up to 44.8% over its zero-shot baseline on MedQA. In contrast, medical-domain models show smaller or even negative gains on MCQs. On free-text QA (Med-O1), UaS performs best for nearly all models and provides consistent improvements across both model types, with the 3B Llama-3.2 model approaching the performance of much larger 7B medical-domain models. We also find that excessively long CoT generation is associated with lower performance in some models on either multiple-choice or free-text QA tasks, suggesting that limiting the CoT length during training may benefit selected models. Overall, the results show that CoT loss weighting should be matched to the task format and the knowledge already encoded in the base model, rather than using a single fine-tuning strategy for all clinical QA tasks.

We Ran a Research Sprint With AI. The AI Worked. The Research Didn't

Anush Sankaran, Arijit Banerjee

原文摘要

Generative AI tools for research are widely deployed, yet individual productivity gains do not guarantee better team research. We argue that how AI use is structured matters alongside access. Personal AI tools may amplify two failures under deadline pressure: a consumption bottleneck, in which generation outpaces team-visible evaluation, and AI-induced research silos, in which private human-AI loops displace shared decision-making. We motivate this position with a mechanism-generating pilot: a 100-minute research sprint with twelve researchers in three independently operating teams, within a seventeen-person session. Both patterns recurred across teams and evidence sources. Of 33 logged AI interactions, one was accepted outright and 27 lacked a recorded disposition; missing records alone do not establish absent evaluation. A parallel autonomous pipeline produced a complete draft without in-session human evaluation, illustrating production capacity rather than comparative quality. We propose Human-AI-Human collaboration: an interaction topology in which AI connects researchers' contexts and supports inspectable collective evaluation and decision-making. The pilot does not isolate AI-specific effects from time pressure or workflow practices. We close with seven modular, falsifiable design hypotheses, prioritizing shared context and team-visible evaluation checkpoints for controlled follow-up.

Camera Radar LiDAR Fusion via Point-Cloud Projection for Multi-Task Learning

Kavin Chandrasekaran, Sorin Grigorescu

原文摘要

Autonomous vehicles require robust perception systems to operate safely under diverse environmental conditions. While cameras provide high-resolution visual data, their performance significantly degrades in low-light and adverse weather. High Definition (HD) radar offers superior reliability and angular resolution under such conditions but lacks rich visual feature recognition. LiDAR, though expensive, delivers highly precise distance measurements and dense point clouds. Each sensor exhibits unique trade-offs, necessitating the development of advanced sensor fusion algorithms to harness complementary strengths while minimizing computational complexity and maintaining accuracy. In this study, the proposed fusion architecture performs early fusion by combining camera images with perspective-view point cloud data from HD radar and LiDAR sensors. The proposed model is trained to detect vehicles and segment free drivable space simultaneously. Experiments are performed on the RADIal dataset where we demonstrate that fusing point cloud data with camera images in front-view surpasses the performances of the most recent standalone and fusion models.

Modeling user behavior couples two distinct signals: a per-user sequence of events and a persistent user-to-user relation graph. Standard pipelines preserve these native formats by combining them in two stages: a sequence encoder is pretrained, its per-user embeddings are frozen, and a graph model is trained on top to allow for cheap serving and cross-task reuse. We ask a simple question: does training the sequence and graph models end-to-end help, and if so, when? To isolate the impact of the training strategy, we hold a standard sequence-encoder-to-GNN pipeline fixed and vary only the optimization method; on Brightkite, a matched control that starts both pipelines from the same pretrained encoder and changes only whether it is updated attributes a 10.6-point MRR gain to end-to-end updating. Across relationship prediction and fraud detection on five real-world datasets, we find that the benefit of end-to-end training is conditional: it improves clearly over frozen two-stage pipelines on relationship prediction, where the relation graph appears to carry much of the signal, whereas gains shrink where the predictive signal is largely node-local (fraud detection), a regime in which a text-fed relational graph transformer achieves competitive results. Furthermore, recasting the data as a temporal graph yields inconsistent results compared to this native sequence-graph formulation. Ultimately, this work provides a controlled empirical account of when jointly training the two structures helps.

What Is This Memory Useful For? Measuring Task-Conditioned Utility in Long-Term Agent Memory

Chih-Hsuan Yang, Anjir Ahmed Chowdhury, Feng Yan, Rajeev Thakur

原文摘要

A stored experience may answer one future question and offer little help with another. We measure this task-conditioned utility rather than assigning each memory a single importance score. A task-blind writer stores a memory without seeing the later task; a frozen reader then answers that task with and without the memory, using identical filler. A cost ledger records the resources used to form, store and expose the memory. On single-call factual-recall tasks built from LongMemEval-V2 web-agent memories, the same memory helps more when it contains information needed for the answer. Its mean paired reward gain on these answer-bearing task pairs exceeds that on matched-control pairs by $+0.33$ (95% interval $+0.21$ to $+0.46$). The tested task-blind summaries and structured records yield smaller gains than Raw, including at fixed total context; a budget sweep is consistent with retention of answer-bearing content contributing to the difference. The bearing--control contrast remains positive in a new session with randomized memory position and under a second reader, although individual memory--task labels change. Generic retrieval performs above chance but misses most screen-defined answer-bearing memories. The factual-recall gains do not extend to the tested software-engineering and scientific-coding benchmarks, where even raw memories have no measurable effect. We provide a public, versioned Conditional Memory Utility Dataset of paired measurements and costs. The practical takeaway is to evaluate memory compression by the task utility it preserves alongside its costs. Task-conditioned measurements make this comparison possible; their stability must also be checked.

A Cognitive Framework for Idea Diversity in Large Language Models

Yuting Deng, Melanie Brucks, Olivier Toubia

原文摘要

Consumers, marketers, and new product developers increasingly rely on LLMs for ideation. Yet ideas generated by independent LLM sessions tend to be less diverse than ideas generated by independent samples of humans, raising concerns that widespread reliance on LLMs could homogenize marketplace ideation and decrease consumer welfare. We identify two mechanisms undermining LLM idea diversity, informed by theories of creative ideation from new product development and cognitive psychology. First, LLMs aggregate knowledge into a unified distribution rather than exhibiting the knowledge partitioning inherent to human populations, where each person occupies a distinct region of the knowledge space. Second, at the individual level, LLMs exhibit fixation just as humans do, where early outputs constrain subsequent ideation. Two product-ideation experiments demonstrate that targeted prompting interventions can address both mechanisms. Persona modifiers based on ordinary individuals improve knowledge partitioning but amplify fixation. This fixation can be mitigated by using chain-of-thought (CoT) prompting, and combining both strategies produces the highest idea diversity, outperforming humans. These findings offer a theoretically grounded framework for understanding LLM idea diversity and practical strategies for leveraging AI's efficiency without compromising the idea diversity that sustains marketplace variety and consumer welfare.

Universal Conceptual Structure in Neural Translation: Probing NLLB-200's Multilingual Geometry

Kyle Elliott Mathewson

原文摘要

Do multilingual translation models organize meaning around a shared conceptual space, or do they primarily encode language identity and surface form? We probe the encoder geometry of Meta's 600M-parameter NLLB-200 model across 135 languages and 101 Swadesh concepts in contextualized carrier-frame and decontextualized bare-word regimes against null and confound controls. First, two-way variance partitioning reveals an additive language-shift plus conceptual-manifold geometry: language shifts account for 45.7% of variance on bare words vs. 13.7% in context, and mean-centering improves the between-to-within-concept distance ratio (vs. a 0.99 permutation null) by 2.14x on bare words (1.15 to 2.46; 2.27x across disjoint scripts) and 1.19x in context (2.25 to 2.69), with conceptual separation peaking at Layer 10 (mutual k-NN overlap jumping 4.35x). Second, semantic category explains 25.4% of Swadesh convergence variance ($F(7,93)=4.53$, $p=2.21\times 10^{-4}$; partial $F=7.74$ controlling for fertility and length)---over 20x orthography or phonology ($R^2\le 0.012$)---while the advantage of Swadesh over non-loanword concrete nouns ($d=0.54$--$0.69$) is mediated by Zipfian subword compactness ($p=7.43\times 10^{-7}$). Third, language distances track ASJP NLD and LDND phonetic distances within subfamilies under block-permutation and cross-script controls ($ρ_s=0.65$--$0.67$, block $p=10^{-4}$; global bare-word Mantel $ρ_s=0.24$, $p=0.001$), and CLICS$^3$ colexified concepts lie closer across string-distinct, within-category ($ρ_s=0.32$), and bare-word ($d=1.79$) controls ($d=1.43$, $p=1.55\times 10^{-33}$). Finally, basic color terms recover the Berlin and Kay hierarchy ($ρ_s=0.91$--$0.93$, $p\le 2.18\times 10^{-4}$), and semantic offsets exceed distance-matched controls ($p=3.55\times 10^{-5}$, $d=1.06$). We release InterpretCognates, an interactive toolkit and reproducible suite.

Bayesian Active Learning for Intent Disambiguation in Interactive Robot Planning

Huao Li, Carson Sobolewski, Augustinos Saravanos, William Tan, John Karigiannis, Chuchu Fan

原文摘要

Interactive robot planning requires robots to infer and execute human intentions from natural language instructions that are often ambiguous, incomplete, or underspecified. Although large language models (LLMs) provide a powerful interface for clarification, relying on the generative model to drive an multi-turn conversation can introduce systematic failures. We propose a Bayesian framework that treats clarification as an active learning problem over grounded Signal Temporal Logic (STL) task specifications. Our method uses LLMs to initialize candidate formal specifications and translate informative contrasts into natural-language clarification questions, while Bayesian optimization maintains uncertainty estimation over user intent and selects queries that maximize information gain. After convergence, the inferred STL specification is passed to a formal planner to synthesize a verifiable robot trajectory. Across four simulated and real-world task domains, our approach generally achieves higher task satisfaction and requires fewer clarification rounds than LLM baselines, while helping smaller models close the performance gap against larger reasoning models.

Global Coherence: When Every Agent Is Right and the Team Is Still Wrong - A Local-to-Global Semantic Foundation for Multi-Agent Collaboration

Xin Heng

原文摘要

AI agents share code, documents, tools, and analyses. No participant sees the whole state, so every step can look right while the combined result is wrong. We call this the global coherence problem. It is a problem of state, not only of intelligence: a stronger model decides better locally, but cannot see what is missing from its context. The Observation-Aliasing Impossibility Theorem gives the exact condition. An agent can always act validly exactly when every world consistent with its context allows a common action. When look-alike worlds need different actions, no reasoning, role, message, or sample can guarantee the right one; with k such worlds whose valid actions are disjoint, the best randomized policy succeeds with probability 1/k. Finding the smallest sufficient context is NP-hard, but refinement finds one and keeps it current as rules change. A second failure survives full information: valid pieces can fail to fit into one world. The same theorem sets the conditions for coherence; sheaves and groupoids are one way to meet them. Models propose, and the harness decides what is valid. Ten studies test it. On TeamBench, teams overspend a shared budget in 5/5 runs; showing them the live count still leaves 4/5, and a harness that owns the budget leaves 0/5. Identity collisions that no pairwise check can see appear in 23 of 45 public alignment networks; split-view agents create them in 9 of 40 merges, and a network check removes all nine. A frontier LLM solves 40/40 revision tasks when it sees the deciding event; with the event hidden, no arm that reasons longer, votes, or splits into roles significantly beats chance, and a companion study replicates this on models from a second provider. In tau2-bench Telecom, after a silent revert, the harness scores 1.00 against 0.07 for call-time policy checks. Refinement keeps a sufficient context at 28% of the cost of sharing every field.

ProofPaths: An AI Agent Framework for Assessing Student Reasoning

Mohsen Hariri, Vipin Chaudhary

原文摘要

Students can use large language models to complete assignments, but a correct solution does not establish whether they understand the reasoning behind it. Individualized interviews can probe that understanding but require recurring staff effort. We introduce ProofPaths, an AI agentic framework that combines rubric-based grading with individualized and interactive interviews. Multiple grading agents assess a submission against instructor guidance, exchange critiques, and revise their judgments. Their scores determine which review supplies the grade and feedback. An interview agent asks students to justify steps in their submission and uses their answers to guide follow-up questions. Each question is linked to a retrieved submission excerpt, so instructors can compare the student's explanation with the cited passage. The system tracks assessment progress and stores grading reviews and interview transcripts for each submission. Several deterministic tests of the assessment controllers check source handling, score aggregation, and limits on correction attempts. Instructors can inspect all reviews and transcripts and override grades within the assignment workflow.

原文摘要

Long-horizon embodied tasks require agents to learn, reason, and generalize robustly across complex real-world environments. However, existing approaches often struggle with partial observability, fragmented spatial reasoning, and inefficient integration of heterogeneous memories, limiting their capacity for long-horizon adaptation. To address this, we introduce RoboMemory, a brain-inspired framework that unifies Temporal, Spatial, Semantic, and Episodic memory for efficient long-horizon planning and interactive learning. Its core innovations are a comprehensive memory system designed for embodied tasks, and a dynamic spatial knowledge graph for scalable, consistent memory updates. Extensive experiments on EmbodiedBench show that RoboMemory improves the average success rate of Qwen2.5-VL-72B-Ins by 26.5 percentage points and achieves performance comparable to strong closed-source VLM agents. Real-world trials further suggest RoboMemory's potential for interactive environmental learning by reusing accumulated experience across repeated task attempts. These results demonstrate RoboMemory as a scalable memory-augmented framework for embodied agents, improving long-horizon planning and cumulative learning in complex interactive environments.

Predictive gains, causal losses: why interventional competence cannot be learned from data alone

Marcus Thomas

原文摘要

Retaining predictive gains can require persistent errors in a model's response to interventions. For deterministic predictors with finite second moments under squared-error loss, any observational advantage over the best predictor using only an outcome's direct causes requires dependence on other inputs, regardless of the learning rule. When admissible interventions vary inputs while preserving the worldly outcome, this dependence yields a positive lower bound on root-mean-square intervention-response error. We identify conditions under which population gradient updates introduce this dependence from a parent-only baseline or damage a previously correct mechanism through shared parameters while improving other predictions. These dependencies can also make model behavior vary with how the same intervention is realized. We characterize interventional alignment through a common output mapping across internal states and physical processes realizing the same intervention target and relevant context. Correction is limited by the causal hypotheses currently admitted within inquiry. The relevant hypothesis class comprises these causal alternatives, rather than the function class the computational system could in principle represent. For predictions restricted to these alternatives, interventional mean error cannot fall below the best approximation they permit, whether evidence is observational or interventional. Reducing error below a positive limit requires admitting better hypotheses, which may entail revising the causal variables, mechanism structure, or intervention interpretation. Interventional criticism constrains replacements without determining them. We conjecture that reliably acquiring and maintaining interventional competence when causal commitments fail requires autonomous participation in proposing alternatives, testing their consequences, and revising them in response to error.
