A Bi-level Co-design Framework for Lunar Monoped with 2D Jump and Landing Control

Sanjay Ramkumar, Suraj Kumar

原文摘要

Legged robots for lunar exploration must be designed for low gravity, where reduced contact forces and long flight phases make leg morphology and controller choice interdependent. We study this for a planar monoped in lunar gravity ($1.625$ m/s$^2$) using a bi-level co-design framework: a differential evolution outer loop searches over link lengths, and each candidate is evaluated on a vertical jump by either a quadratic program based task-space controller (QP-TSC) or a direct-collocation based trajectory optimization. The two controllers yield different optimal link lengths, and trajectory optimization outperforms the QP-TSC across most of the design space, with 17% lower Cost of Transport (COT) at their respective optima. We then extend to a 2D jump, where trajectory optimization with centroidal angular momentum regulation produces stable in-place and forward jumps, and an LQR controller absorbs impact and stabilizes the robot after touchdown. This is demonstrated on a baseline morphology with both links 0.3 m long.

How Much Can Best-of-N Help a World Action Model? Measuring Selectable Headroom and Realizing It in Closed Loop

原文摘要

World action models (WAMs) predict the visual consequences of the actions they generate, which makes test-time selection a natural way to improve a fixed policy: imagine the futures of candidate actions and execute the best one. The benefit of selection is bounded by the selectable headroom, how much better the best candidate truly is, but the standard estimate, which executes each candidate once and keeps the best outcome, conflates candidate quality with the randomness of everything that follows. We introduce a denoised counterfactual protocol, based on bitwise-reproducible branching, repeated continuations, held-out oracles, and common random numbers, that measures the headroom a selector can realize, and use its measurements to build a fail-gated selector. Across four WAMs, two benchmarks, over 100,000 branched rollouts, and pre-registered tests, we find that (i) the standard estimate overstates the selectable headroom of native samples: bounds from 17 continuations per candidate place its selectable share between 24% and 66% for three WAMs; (ii) structured action perturbations create up to 16 points of selectable headroom; and (iii) in both WAMs with action-conditioned imagination, imagined futures carry candidate-outcome information with no detectable loss relative to real futures, information that the value head of Cosmos Policy leaves unused. Deviating from the policy chunk only when a readout of the WAM predicts failure, the selector raises closed-loop task success from 76.9% to 81.6% on held-out episodes of training tasks, with the largest gain where the policy fails most often, and from 62.6% to 69.8% on unseen tasks.

Acoustic Signature Optimisation for Bioinspired Flapping-Wing Micro Aerial Vehicles

Yi Lun Duh, Krispin C. V. Broers, Sophie F. Armanini

原文摘要

Flapping-wing micro air vehicles are prized for quiet flight, yet the few existing measurements show engineered wings to be 15-30 dB louder than the animals they imitate. This paper investigates two passive geometric approaches to reduce the acoustic signature of a flapping membrane wing, and applies these to an exemplary wing. A significant sound source in flapping wings is the impulsive click radiated at stroke reversal, when a slack membrane snaps between two curvatures. Our first noise-reduction approach optimises the wing's venation layout, based on an analytical model of the reversal click as a dynamic snap-through of the membrane. The optimised venation pattern was manufactured and resulted in a reduction of up to 8 dB during the reversal snap in experiments. During testing, the venation was found to be sensitive to orientation rather than thickness. Secondly, an additive trailing-edge fringe inspired by hummingbird feathers was shown to further reduce the broadband swoosh by 3-4 dB at no lift cost, matching a cut serration wing without removing lifting area.

From 12 to 200 Demonstrations: How ACT, Diffusion Policy, SmolVLA and $π_{0.5}$ Scale on a Low-Cost Arm

Simon Cowling

原文摘要

We trained four widely used imitation-learning policies, ACT, Diffusion Policy, SmolVLA and $π_{0.5}$, on nested subsets of 12, 25, 50, 100 and 200 teleoperated demonstrations of one pick-and-place task with distractor objects, using one fixed training recipe per policy. Every trained model was then run on a physical SO-101 arm on a fixed set of object placements: 1,340 scored episodes in 126 blocks. ACT, trained from scratch, rose from 1 success in 40 episodes at 12 demonstrations to 37 in 40 at 100. $π_{0.5}$ with its action expert fine-tuned was the best policy when data was scarce (16 of 40 at 12 demonstrations, 28 of 40 at 25) and then stayed near 70%; from 100 demonstrations ACT was ahead, by a margin this study does not fully resolve. SmolVLA and Diffusion Policy peaked near 50%, and both were affected by a failure to start: SmolVLA's arm never started moving in 47% of episodes, and Diffusion Policy hardly ever started until an idle lead-in was trimmed from the demonstrations. For $π_{0.5}$ the fine-tuning recipe mattered more than the amount of data: low-rank adaptation succeeded in 4 of 110 episodes, against 130 of 200 for action-expert fine-tuning. From the joint and camera recordings we place every episode on a four-stage ladder (started, reached the ball, carried it, delivered it) and show that for ACT more data moves failures from reaching, to grasping, to none, while the failures $π_{0.5}$ retains are in grasping. We also measure how weak a ten-episode block is as a measurement (the same checkpoint tested twice differs by 2 successes in 10 on average), separate seed-to-seed variation from that noise, and audit the human scoring against the recordings. Training length was fixed within each recipe, so the amount of data and the number of times it was seen change together; we state which conclusions survive that confound and which do not.

VLA-HWBench: Where the Time Goes When VLA Models Run on Edge Hardware

Borui Xu, Hongshi Tan, Wenqi Jiang, Bingsheng He, Ming Wu, Jason Zeng, Michael Heinrich

原文摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) models increasingly run on edge devices aboard robots, where inference latency constrains closed-loop robot control. However, it remains unclear how to design VLA models, their inference software and edge hardware so that robots can run VLA inference in real time. Most VLA models report only task success, while prior studies cover limited action-generation strategies, divide inference into at most three stages, and lack comparisons of inference optimizations on the same models. Therefore, we introduce VLA-HWBench, a benchmark that measures 18 open VLA models on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor and AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, with a seven-stage inference breakdown. Our study reveals three insights. First, action-generation strategy matters more than model size. It dominates 14 of 19 Jetson configurations, latency varies by $82\times$ on Jetson and $157\times$ on AMD, and parameter count explains at most 15% of latency variance. Models that generate long action chunks in a few flow-matching steps keep up with control, whereas token-by-token decoding does not. Second, kernel fusion with 4-bit weights helps most, running $π_{0.5}$ and GR00T N1.7 2.6-2.9$\times$ faster than PyTorch with torch.compile, but it exists for only these two models and only on the Jetson. Optimization also moves the time to the stages it shortens least, as CPU preprocessing grows from 12% to 39% of the GR00T N1.7 call. Third, after optimization, memory bandwidth limits only the stages that process few tokens on the Jetson, such as the denoising steps, whereas software limits all other stages, from unfused kernels to serial preprocessing on the host CPU. Overall, low-latency edge VLAs should use few action-generation iterations, inference software should extend kernel fusion and low-bit weights to more models and platforms, and edge hardware needs high memory bandwidth and a fast host CPU.

FastBEVFusion: Simple Multi-Modal Fusion for 3D Object Detection at 50 FPS

Tom Sanitz, Emre Gülsoylu, Simone Frintrop, Christian Wilms

原文摘要

Reliable real-time 3D object detection based on LiDAR and camera data is critical for safety in autonomous driving, where systems must accurately perceive their surroundings with minimal latency. Many state-of-the-art systems achieve high-quality detection results but fail to meet real-time constraints, limiting their practical use. To address this challenge, we propose FastBEVFusion, a simple, fast, and robust fusion system for 3D object detection. Based on modality-specific features, FastBEVFusion projects these features into semi-aligned modality-specific BEV spaces, without relying on a computationally intensive and potentially error-prone depth estimation. Given these BEV spaces, we propose a light-weight, soft, and dynamic fusion module based on cross-attention, which adapts dynamically to the scene context and enables feature fusion across the entire BEV spaces. Experiments on the complex nuScenes dataset show that FastBEVFusion outperforms state-of-the-art real-time systems, and achieves over 50 FPS without deployment libraries. Additionally, our system shows strong robustness to calibration errors, making FastBEVFusion a powerful 3D object detection system for real-world applications.

原文摘要

Bimanual manipulation with dexterous hands has attracted growing attention in research on robotic action models. However, few studies have developed benchmarks specifically tailored for dexterous manipulation, leaving the dexterous manipulation capabilities of existing models insufficiently characterized. In this paper, we present BiDex-100, a simulation benchmark for bimanual dexterous manipulation that combines broad task coverage, multi-dimensional evaluation, and high-DoF hand embodiments. Concretely, the benchmark comprises 106 tasks organized along five capability axes: generalization, instruction following, limited demonstrations, long horizon, and memory. Each task is paired with an out-of-domain variant featuring controlled visual and spatial changes, allowing systematic assessment of robustness. In addition, the benchmark supports two embodiments and provides 8,080 success-validated teleoperated demonstrations, totaling 6.25 million frames. We evaluate seven recent Vision-Language-Action models under a unified protocol, establishing baselines for capability-specific performance, robustness, and data efficiency. MCP-Net: Real-Time Coronary Perception Network and Topological Analysis for Robotic Guidewire Navigation

Sahar Nasirihaghighi, Tianyuan Wang, Kenan Niu, Stefano Stramigioli

原文摘要

Coronary guidewire navigation during percutaneous coronary intervention requires continuous interpretation of vessel anatomy, guidewire position, and target stenosis under two-dimensional X-ray fluoroscopy. While existing approaches commonly address vessel segmentation or device localization as separate tasks, a robotic system requires a more structured perception of the coronary scene to support downstream navigation. In this work, we present a simulation-driven framework centered on a Multi-Task Coronary Perception Network (MCP-Net) for robotic guidewire navigation, integrating coronary vessel segmentation, vascular topology extraction, and roadmap generation. Starting from three-dimensional coronary CT angiography, we generate simulated fluoroscopy images containing vascular structures, simulated guidewires, stenotic lesions with varying severity, and diverse vascular geometries, together with simulation-derived ground truth. MCP-Net jointly performs coronary vessel segmentation, guidewire-tip localization, and stenosis localization from a single fluoroscopic frame. These predictions are subsequently converted into a structured vascular graph containing centerlines, bifurcations, endpoints, branch directions, and branch angles. By associating the predicted stenosis with this graph, the framework generates a roadmap from the automatically selected graph root toward the target lesion. The results demonstrate that the proposed framework can jointly recover coronary perception targets and transform them into an interpretable vascular representation suitable for downstream robotic navigation.

Multi-robot Learning-based Informative Path Planning Using Spatio-Temporal Gaussian Process Kalman Filter

Muqing Cao, Yunwoo Lee, Junbin Yuan, Lorenzo Schenk, Sebastian Scherer

原文摘要

Multi-robot informative path planning (IPP) for persistent target monitoring requires robots to reason about spatial uncertainty, temporal evolution, and practical sensing and communication constraints. Recent learning-based multi-robot IPP methods use Gaussian Processes (GPs) for target uncertainty, but often rely on simplified sensing models and centralized belief updates. We propose a grid-based spatio-temporal GP-Kalman filtering framework for learning-based multi-robot IPP. Instead of maintaining one GP per target, we represent anonymous target presence as a single latent field over a discrete workspace grid. The proposed recursive update assimilates footprint-level camera measurements and supports arbitrary fields of view and range-dependent noise. A GP-derived temporal process update inflates uncertainty over time to account for moving targets. For decentralized deployment, each robot maintains its own mapper and exchanges fixed-size belief summaries rather than raw measurements. Received beliefs are fused using diagonal covariance intersection to remain conservative under unknown inter-robot correlations. We integrate the mapper with a reinforcement-learning policy for graph-based neighbor selection. In simulation, the centralized deployment improves target visitation and attains about 20% lower posterior target uncertainty than learning-based and classical auction/coverage baselines, a large share of which stems from the belief representation itself. A real-world two-UAV experiment demonstrates transfer to outdoor multi-robot search over a large field (>7000 m^2). Code is available at https://github.com/caomuqing/multirobot-ipp.

FISRF: Flexible Instructional Scaffolding Reflection Framework for Robotics Task Planning with Large Language Model

Qingmiao Liang, Jiatao Zhang, Runxin Zou, Yufan Song, Wei Song, Yuhua Zheng

原文摘要

Large Language Models (LLMs) are widely adopted for reflective error correction in task planning; however, existing approaches primarily rely on autonomous exploration, rendering them prone to accumulating erroneous experiences during early interactions with new environments. To address this limitation, we propose the Flexible Instructional Scaffolding Reflection Framework (FISRF), an agent--mentor architecture that estimates the robot's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) in task planning and adaptively selects reflection strategies and mentor guidance, thereby facilitating the accumulation of effective error-correction experience. Experiments in ALFWorld and on real-world robotic platforms demonstrate that FISRF reduces the average number of error-correction rounds by 37% and redundant reasoning by 25.1%, while improving the overall task success rate by 8%. RAVEN: A Unified Active SLAM System for Rapid Autonomous Visual Exploration with Aerial Robots under Localization Uncertainty

Xinyi Chen, Yichen Zhang, Chenxing Jiang, Shaojie Shen

原文摘要

Active simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) addresses the problem of planning robot motion to build complete and accurate maps of unknown environments through efficient exploration while maintaining high localization accuracy. This raises a dilemma between exploring unknown spaces to expand coverage and exploiting visited regions to perform active loop closures. Despite numerous prior works on ground robots, aerial robots with high agility and constrained sensor suites face more significant localization drift and thereby demand dedicated active SLAM planning. Moreover, a unified strategy that adapts performance based on task-specific priorities remains an open question. In this article, we introduce RAVEN, a unified active SLAM framework for Rapid Autonomous Visual ExploratioN using quadrotors, which systematically accounts for localization uncertainty. The framework starts with identifying frontiers and active loop closure candidates, from which global tour candidates are generated. These candidates are evaluated using a utility vector that separately quantifies exploration efficiency and localization accuracy, and the final tour is selected according to a prioritization parameter ranging from $[0,1]$. Finally, a perception-aware navigation planner generates smooth execution trajectories that minimize visual state estimation error based on the online Fisher information field that provides visual localization information in real-time. Benchmark evaluations demonstrate that RAVEN outperforms state-of-the-art active SLAM methods, highlighting its advantages in producing a spectrum of performance across prioritizations. Fully onboard field experiments with a customized stereo-inertial quadrotor further validate its practical applicability in challenging environments. The source code will be released to benefit the community.

GAWM: A Compact Latent World-Action Model for Multi-Task Robot Manipulation

Yang Liu, Xiaoli Liu, Liuzhao Li, Yuduo Song, Muyuan Liu, Xiang Gao

原文摘要

World-action models (WAMs) incorporate the prediction of future observations into robot policy learning. However, most WAMs build on billion-parameter vision-language or video-generation backbones, which incur high training cost and inference latency. In this letter, we present GAWM (Geometry-Aware World Model), a compact multi-task WAM that predicts future observations in the latent space of a frozen DINOv3 encoder. GAWM compresses the features of each camera view into a small set of tokens. A lightweight predictor, conditioned on the task rather than on actions, forecasts these tokens at two future horizons. The forecast is supervised with the dense patch features of future frames, which requires it to encode the spatial layout of the future scene. An action decoder directly regresses a chunk of future actions from the current and predicted tokens. With fewer than 100M parameters and no robot or video pretraining, GAWM outperforms billion-parameter WAMs on RoboTwin 2.0 and performs comparably to billion-parameter VLAs on LIBERO. On a dual-arm robot, it achieves lower action-prediction error on held-out demonstrations than a fine-tuned billion-parameter VLA, with substantially lower inference latency. Ablation studies show that the latent world model substantially improves performance when training data or training time is limited. Code is available at https://github.com/gaoxiang12/ga-wm.

State estimation for a hybrid rigid-continuum space manipulator system

Lorenzo Ticozzi, Patricio A. Vela, Panagiotis Tsiotras

原文摘要

Spacecraft-mounted robotic manipulators can support long-term operability of orbiting assets by conducting tasks such as on-orbit assembly, repair, upgrade, and refueling. In this context, the integration of continuum/soft robotic mechanisms into space manipulator designs promises to reduce stowage volume and mass, as well as to improve operational safety through the inherent mechanical compliance of soft structures. This work presents a novel state reconstruction pipeline for a hybrid soft-rigid space manipulator, in which the distal link is a tendon-driven continuum robot. The estimation problem is formulated as a maximum a posteriori (MAP) inference problem over the hybrid manipulator's configuration, conditioned on discrete, noisy measurements from joint encoders and a vision-based sensing pipeline. The resulting soft-constrained optimization problem is transcribed as a factor graph, providing a compact representation for fusing heterogeneous measurements with the rigid-soft kinematic model. Furthermore, the adoption of the Geometric Variable Strain (GVS) approach yields a minimum-order parameterization of the configuration, a property expected to facilitate model-based feedback control design in future work. The proposed implementation is validated in simulation on a closed-loop trajectory where, for better realism, position measurements for the continuum link are obtained by means of a simulated visual pipeline leveraging synthetic photorealistic images. The state reconstruction accuracy and computational performance confirm the potential of the proposed framework for hybrid soft-rigid robotic applications in orbit.

CLEAR-IR: Clarity-Enhanced Active Reconstruction of Infrared Imagery

Nathan Shankar, Marton Gonczy, Hujun Yin, Pawel Ladosz

原文摘要

This paper presents CLEAR-IR (Clarity Enhanced Active Reconstruction of Infrared Imagery), a novel framework for enabling robust robotic perception in dark environments using active infrared (IR) sensing. IR streams are less susceptible to noise than RGB in low light conditions but are dominated by structured light emitter patterns that hinder high level tasks such as object detection, tracking, and localisation. CLEAR-IR addresses this by reconstructing clean, RGB styled images from emitter populated IR inputs using a dual stream architecture inspired by DeepMAO, enabling standard RGB trained vision pipelines to operate without visible light. Evaluation across object detection, ArUco marker detection, and visual SLAM demonstrates that CLEAR-IR produces reliable perception in conditions ranging from well lit to completely dark, where passive RGB based enhancement methods fail entirely due to the physical absence of sensor signal.

Structure-Actuation Co-Design of All-Electric Heavy-Duty Robotic Manipulators

Mohammad Bahari, Amir Hossein Barjini, Jouni Mattila

原文摘要

This paper presents a mixed discrete-continuous multiobjective bilevel framework for the structure-actuation co-design of all-electric heavy-duty robotic manipulators. The upper level optimizes manipulator geometry and actuation topology, while joint-specific lower-level searches construct feasible archives of discrete motor, gearbox, and screw configurations. A system-level coordinator selects actuator packages according to hardware mass, co-design cost, and loss-aware supply energy, and the resulting actuator masses are fed back to the robot model until a mass-consistent fixed point is obtained. Evaluation on a full-pose SE(3) benchmark with a 100-kg tool payload yields eight feasible nondominated designs, all satisfying the 12 prescribed poses. Actuator-mass coupling converges in three iterations for every reported design. A fixed-design ablation shows that one-pass sequential sizing changes hardware mass by up to 2.13%, co-design cost by 10.20%, and supply energy by 9.40% in magnitude. Payload screening further reveals increasing mass-cost-energy demand and changes in competitive mechanism topology with carried load.

原文摘要

Hardness is one of the most important object properties that humans and robots perceive through touch. This paper investigates active sampling strategies for sample-efficient hardness classification with vision-based tactile sensors (VBTS), using information-theoretic measures of model uncertainty. We evaluated three probabilistic classifier models and two active sampling strategies and a random sampling baseline on a hardness classification task, with our own dataset of VBTS samples collected by a robot and a previously published dataset. In addition, we conducted a human study on the hardness classification task with the same objects as our dataset. Our findings indicate that the active sampling approaches, driven by variance and entropy as measures of model uncertainty, perform best with accuracy reaching 90%, compared to human accuracy of 48%, demonstrating the effectiveness of using VBTS for hardness classification. Omni-IGN: Onboard Image-Goal Navigation for Drones with Omnidirectional Vision

Zichen Yan, Rui Huang, Shenao Wang, Yucong Wang, Nuthasith Gerdpratoom, Lin Zhao

原文摘要

Image-goal navigation (ImageNav) requires an agent to reach a location specified by a goal image in an unknown environment. For drones, this task demands exploration, goal- directed navigation, and collision avoidance under limited onboard computing resources. Existing aerial ImageNav methods are built on single-view observations, requiring additional rotation and exploration to search for goal-relevant cues outside the field of view. In this paper, we present Omni-IGN, a fully onboard ImageNav system that integrates quad-fisheye perception, an attention-based reinforcement learning (RL) policy, and a collision-aware safety layer. The policy adaptively fuses goal-relevant features across multiple views to provide directional guidance for continuous navigation. The quad-fisheye RGB images support both ImageNav and obstacle avoidance without a dedicated depth sensor. On Habitat benchmarks, Omni-IGN achieves the best performance among continuous-action baselines. Moreover, flight tests in IsaacSim validate the effectiveness of integrating learning-based depth estimation with the action safety layer for collision avoidance. Finally, real-world experiments demonstrate zero-shot sim-to-real transfer without any fine-tuning or external localization. The code and model checkpoints will be released upon acceptance.

Keeping Contact: Task-Adaptive Friction Margins for Bimanual Non-Prehensile Manipulation

Qian Ying Lee, Lin Yang, Domenico Campolo

原文摘要

Maintaining contact in non-prehensile manipulation requires more than nominal friction cone feasibility: a force barely inside the cone and one well inside it are both feasible, but they provide different margins against slip and contact loss. This paper uses signed friction distance to measure friction margin in force space and derives a task-adaptive margin from the force correction needed to balance pivot moment deviations in bimanual tilting. The resulting contact margins are embedded in a sequence of second-order cone programs (SOCPs), each giving a globally optimal contact force solution at a tilt angle. The optimizer balances the object about an environmental pivot while keeping robot and pivot contact forces away from the nominal friction boundary. Optimizer-level results show interpretable force redistribution and adaptation to object property changes. Real-world experiments demonstrate successful execution under object property variations and model mismatch, while fixed margin and no-margin comparisons illustrate the importance of adapting the margin to task demand. These results support signed friction distance margins as a force planning mechanism for maintaining contact in bimanual non-prehensile manipulation. Project page: https://keeping-contact.github.io/

DeFM: Learning Foundation Representations from Depth for Robotics

原文摘要

Depth sensors are widely deployed across robotic platforms, and advances in fast, high-fidelity depth simulation have enabled robotic policies trained on depth observations to achieve robust sim-to-real transfer for a wide range of tasks. Despite this, representation learning for depth modality remains underexplored compared to RGB, where large-scale foundation models now define the state of the art. To address this gap, we present DeFM, a self-supervised foundation model trained entirely on depth images for robotic applications. Using a DINO-style self-distillation objective on a curated dataset of 60M depth images, DeFM learns geometric and semantic representations that generalize to diverse environments, tasks, and sensors. To retain metric awareness across multiple scales, we introduce a novel input normalization strategy. We further distill DeFM into compact models suitable for resource-constrained robotic systems. When evaluated on depth-based classification, segmentation, navigation, locomotion, and manipulation benchmarks, DeFM achieves state-of-the-art performance and demonstrates strong generalization from simulation to real-world environments. We release all our pretrained models, which can be adopted off-the-shelf for depth-based robotic learning without task-specific fine-tuning. Webpage: https://de-fm.github.io/

Incremental-Smoothing-Based ARAIM Protection Levels for Tightly Coupled GNSS/IMU Integration in Urban Canyons

Jiahao Hu, Xiangru Wang, Weisong Wen, Qian Meng, Jiale Wang, Shizhuang Wang

原文摘要

Protection levels (PLs) bound position errors under specified fault hypotheses and risk budgets, but advanced receiver autonomous integrity monitoring (ARAIM) is formulated for snapshot GNSS estimation rather than the correlated posterior of tightly coupled GNSS/IMU factor graph optimization (FGO). This paper formulates ARAIM solution separation and PL computation on the FGO posterior. Because current-epoch pseudorange factors enter only the current-state block of the fixed-lag information matrix, the fault-excluded position covariance, solution separation, and nominal-bias propagation follow exactly from the linearized current-state marginal, which re-tains correlations with velocity, IMU-bias, and clock states and with historical information. Woodbury updates with selected-output evaluation compute these quantities for fault-free, single-satellite, constellation-wide, and second-order hypotheses with-out repeated full-state inversion or graph reoptimization. Surrounding monitoring layers screen measurements, handle post-fit outliers, and determine PL validity and availability. In two road experiments, both nominal sequences achieve 100% horizontal and vertical empirical bounding over PL-valid epochs, with a maximum error-to-PL ratio of 0.96. Normalized errors show that the posterior covariance alone does not capture slowly varying ranging biases: a covariance-only bound computed from the same posteriors retains no resolvable margin, and strong temporal correlation limits the empirical evidence to consistency checks rather than validation of the integrity budget. On identical Experiment A posteriors, the proposed method reduces fault-hypothesis evaluation and PL solving time by 65.2% relative to direct full-state inversion with matching integrity decisions, and controlled fault injections demonstrate fail-safe PL invalidation while navigation continues.

原文摘要

Real-to-Sim-to-Real (Real2Sim2Real) enables structured world representations for planning, interpretability, and safe execution. Most existing approaches rely on passive perception, which creates real2sim gaps due to imperfect observation. Inspired by how humans perceive actively through actions, we propose ActiveAlign, a framework that leverages active perception to align the Real2Sim2Real gap from interactions. ActiveAlign introduces two complementary modules: (i) ActiveAlign-Waving, which performs hand-eye calibration by exploiting active hand motions and differentiable rendering, and (ii) ActiveAlign-Touching, which refines object alignment through tactile feedback to achieve millimeter-level precision. Together, these capabilities enable strong real2sim alignment. We demonstrate that ActiveAlign-Waving can be used to curate simulation environments for open-sourced uncalibrated robot manipulation datasets, and demonstrate on a real Unitree G1 robot that ActiveAlign enables fine manipulation of millimeter-scale objects such as pressing buttons and moving sliders.

When Black-Box Robot Policies Fail: Online Sensor Diagnosis and Repair with a Transparent Surrogate

原文摘要

Robot foundation models may generalize across tasks and embodiments, but their actions still depend on sensors that can fail. When the policy is frozen or inaccessible, can an external monitor diagnose and repair corrupted inputs without access to its internals? We test a structured surrogate that separates periodic gait from sensor-dependent corrections to guide input repair around a frozen locomotion policy. On simulated Go2, offline diagnosis raises walking success from 259/640 to 429/640 episodes; online repair reaches 382/640, with no triggers in 64 held-out fault-free episodes. A matched boosted-tree surrogate predicts clean actions similarly well but yields no detected repair improvement over no repair. Separate fits improve walking on Go1 and ANYmal C, although phase-aware gradients perform better. Evidence remains limited to one policy and a partly screened simulated fault suite; robot foundation model and hardware validation remain open.

Trace-WAM: Learning to Act via 3D Motion Prediction for World Action Models

原文摘要

World Action Models (WAMs) learn representations for robot control by coupling future visual prediction with action generation. Successful manipulation depends primarily on how the robot and task-relevant objects evolve, whereas future-video prediction must also reconstruct the appearance and background of the entire scene. We therefore propose Trace-WAM, which augments video-action learning with future 3D motion prediction as an auxiliary objective. This objective supervises temporal point correspondence together with image-plane displacement and depth change, directly describing the interaction dynamics and spatial changes involved in manipulation. To this end, we adopt a three-branch Mixture-of-Transformer (Tri-MoT) architecture to jointly learn video prediction, motion prediction, and action generation. The motion expert predicts future trajectories from current visual features, allowing motion supervision to shape the representations used for action generation. Because the action expert does not consume predicted trajectories, inference retains the current-observation policy path: a single visual forward pass followed by action denoising. Experiments on RoboCasa-GR1, LIBERO, and LIBERO-Plus demonstrate strong in-distribution performance and out-of-distribution generalization, with particularly clear gains over Fast-WAM under limited demonstrations and distribution shifts.

ExecDiffuser: Closing the Sample-to-Execution Gap in Diffusion Planning

原文摘要

Generative planners are often evaluated by the trajectories they can generate, although closed-loop driving ultimately depends on the single candidate committed to control. We identify this mismatch as the sample-to-execution gap and show that improving proposal quality alone can worsen the executed decision. Here, we introduce ExecDiffuser, a recurrent proposal-to-execution framework that couples candidate generation, trajectory selection, and subsequent replanning through shared execution semantics. Intent-Guided Diffusion Proposal (IGD) assigns hypothesis responsibility and shapes trajectories with execution-conditioned supervision. Execution-Grounded Selection (EGS) learns a candidate-conditioned publication utility, commits one trajectory to control, and returns it as context for the next planning cycle. Across nuPlan, InterPlan, and NAVSIM, ExecDiffuser achieves leading closed-loop performance against strong state-of-the-art baselines. Under a unified five-seed protocol, it obtains an average score of 85.62, improving over Diffusion Planner and FlowDrive by 4.02 and 1.31 points, respectively. On NAVSIM, it achieves 92.6 PDMS under the official evaluation pipeline. Matched counterfactual analysis further shows that ExecDiffuser more reliably converts strong candidates into committed decisions, while prefix interventions confirm that this advantage persists after physical execution and subsequent replanning.

原文摘要

Humanoid parkour requires robots to reason about future footholds and whole-body motions over highly discontinuous terrain. We revisit the information asymmetry in asymmetric actor-critic learning for perceptive humanoid locomotion: the critic exploits privileged simulator signals during training, whereas the deployable actor operates solely from onboard perception. We argue that the key is not exposing privileged information to the actor, but learning a deployable approximation of it to narrow the information gap between training and deployment. We present HC2Robot, a deployable perceptive humanoid parkour framework consisting of a Predicted Foresight Module (PFM) and a Hyper-Connection (HC) Transformer. PFM predicts from deployable observations the policy-conditioned timing, location, and support quality of each foot's next touchdown event, converting privileged supervision into a deployable latent representation that provides the actor with predicted touchdown information without privileged runtime sensing. The HC Transformer further enhances temporal reasoning through learnable multi-stream routing, while a future motion prediction head provides short-horizon motion priors for regularization. Across stairs, gaps, high platforms, and slopes, HC2Robot achieves a mean simulated traversal success rate of 97.60% and consistently higher safe foothold rates than strong perceptive locomotion baselines, supporting improved traversal performance and geometric foothold support under deployable sensing.

原文摘要

Pretrained video generation models encode rich priors about physical interactions, but leveraging them for robot control typically requires either resource-intensive video generation at test time or action heads trained from scratch that do not fully utilize the pretrained backbone. We introduce Tokenizing Actions as Video Patches in a Shared Transformer Policy (TAPESTRY), a world action model that repurposes a pretrained video diffusion transformer into a robotic policy without requiring video generation at inference. Our key idea is to treat robot actions as single-patch tokens in the video model's latent space. A lightweight linear projection maps each action timestep to the patch dimensions of the pretrained VAE, and the resulting tokens are processed by the same patchifying layers and transformer backbone used for video. The shared backbone is optimized through three diffusion objectives sampled per minibatch element: Video diffusion uses VAE latents from robot and human videos to establish dynamics priors. Joint video+action diffusion trains on robot demonstrations using a coupled diffusion timestep and an asymmetric attention mask. Action-only diffusion denoises actions conditioned on clean image latents. At test time, the model generates a compact action token sequence in a single DDIM step from pure noise, producing smooth action chunks at 84 ms per action chunk on consumer hardware and avoiding the cost of full video generation. Across simulation benchmarks and real-robot experiments, TAPESTRY achieves strong performance with substantially lower inference cost than comparable joint video--action policies. Integrated Design and Reproducible Feasibility Analysis of a Four-Wheel Rover with Packet-Commanded Imaging, LiDAR Ranging, and Learning-Assisted Target Recognition

原文摘要

This study develops an integrated, reproducible design assessment for a four-wheel educational rover intended for the high-school remote-control division of the 2027 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The architecture combines commercial differential drive control, independently sprung wheel carriers, separate drive and task batteries, and a Raspberry Pi-based subsystem that executes received imaging and ranging commands. The analysis reconciles component lists with dimensioned computer-aided design views, derives mobility and electrical constraints, and connects sensor geometry to command execution. At the estimated mass of 10.919 kg, a 215 mm wheel rotating at 200 RPM produces a theoretical rolling speed of 8.105 km/h; consequently, the nominal motor label does not establish compliance with an 8 km/h design ceiling. A steady 20-degree climb requires at least 1.255 newton-meters per wheel under an assumed rolling-resistance coefficient of 0.10 and equal torque sharing. At 50 ft, an ideal 12-inch feature spans approximately 71 pixels across a full-resolution Camera Module 3 Standard image, while a 1-degree pointing error displaces the ranging ray by approximately 266 mm. An executed synthetic benchmark compares color-geometry rules and two linear support-vector classifiers on 2,400 generated board crops with scene-disjoint evaluation. A separate reference command executor is checked using mocked hardware. These software results and analytical sensitivities support a testable development plan; the study does not report physical rover trials. The principal contribution is a traceable connection between component choices, failure mechanisms, quantitative design limits, and reproducible verification tasks.

Temporal Tactile Encoding and Compliance for Intent-Aware Robot-to-Human Bimanual Handover

Pasquale Marra, Stefano Berti, Gabriele Mario Caddeo, Lorenzo Natale

原文摘要

Reliable robot-to-human handover requires the robot to infer when the person is ready to receive the object and release it safely, comfortably, and at the right time. This is challenging because visual observations alone may not disambiguate clear taking intent from accidental contact, weak grasping, wrong-direction forces, or transient interactions. In this work we treat human-robot handover as an intrinsically multimodal problem. Our approach couples a VLA model with a compliance controller that reduces interaction forces during object transfer. We finetune the VLA model with human demonstrations using RGB observation, temporally encoded tactile feedback and proprioception. We evaluate the complete system in a human-subject study against two baselines: one without tactile feedback and one using tactile feedback without compliance control. We hypothesize that combining compliance and temporal tactile encoding yields the most reliable and comfortable handovers, as compliance facilitates physical interaction while tactile history captures sustained taking intent. Performance is measured through objective metrics and an ad-hoc questionnaire. The results show that the two components provide complementary benefits and substantially outperform the baselines. Gradient flow of magnetic inclination and intensity as a GPS-free guidance mechanism

Zayed Herma, Philippe Cardin, Andréa Vassilev

原文摘要

It is well established that some animals, such as sea turtles, sense the Earth's magnetic field and use it as a primary cue for long-distance navigation across the vast and featureless ocean. This remarkable ability has inspired the development of bio-inspired magnetic navigation (BIMN), which seeks to mimic these animals to develop robust and frugal navigation methods. BIMN exploits the Earth's magnetic field, sometimes described as ''Nature's GPS'', as a natural navigation infrastructure, providing a potential alternative to vulnerable satellite navigation systems. However, unlike geographic coordinates, magnetic coordinates extracted from the Earth's magnetic field do not provide a one-to-one mapping to geographic locations. Different locations can exhibit similar magnetic signatures, creating ambiguity and making BIMN inherently more challenging. Despite this fundamental challenge, we demonstrate that, within predefined regions of the Earth, magnetic inclination and intensity provide sufficient information to navigate to any destination. By formulating BIMN as a gradient flow control and guidance problem, we show that the resulting gradient flow act as current that carries the system and can be controlled to guide it through intermediate waypoints toward the desired destination. The resulting framework provides a GPS-free navigation mechanism with potential applications in both engineering and biology. In engineering, it can be used to establish a geomagnetic navigation infrastructure through which prescribed routes can be defined and followed, while in biology, it can be used to analyse the migration routes of animals known to rely on magnetoreception.

原文摘要

Learning controllable world dynamics from heterogeneous interaction videos is challenging because robot embodiments use incompatible action spaces, while human videos lack native control labels. We present RynnWorld-Latent, a cross-embodiment video world model that uses the 3D-grounded latent actions introduced by RynnLAM as a shared conditioning interface. This representation enables joint pretraining on human interaction videos, robot demonstrations, and simulation rollouts without requiring a common native action space. Built on a pretrained video transformer, RynnWorld-Latent combines global action tokens with an identity-initialized local pathway that aligns actions with future video latents. We pretrain on 23 datasets comprising approximately 553.5M frames and adapt the model to target robots through post-training. The framework supports two data-generation routes: digital teleoperation uses target robot commands to generate action-video demonstrations, while latent-action synthesis transfers source motion to an edited initial frame and pairs the resulting rollout with retargeted pseudo robot actions. Experiments show improved video prediction metrics on public benchmarks and two real-robot platforms, alongside qualitative action following when different action sequences share the same initial observation. Synthetic mid-training improves policy success rates on LIBERO and LIBERO-Plus, and both generation routes improve real-world policy success rates over real-demonstration-only training in the evaluated settings. These results support universal latent actions as a scalable interface for learning controllable visual dynamics across heterogeneous embodiments.
