DIFUZZI: A Differential Fuzzing Tool for Code Functional Similarity Assessment

Simantika Bhattacharjee Dristi, Matthew B. Dwyer

原文摘要

A range of software engineering tasks, such as optimization and refactoring, seek to preserve the behavior of software components and require methods to assess functional similarity. Research has explored formal approaches to prove functional equivalence and used machine learning methods to approximate it, but the former does not scale and does not quantify the extent of similarity and the latter struggles when subtle semantic differences are present. Differential fuzzing offers a scalable approach for differencing programs semantically, but applying it often requires substantial manual effort to construct input generators that are well-suited to a target pair of programs. To address this challenge, we introduce DIFUZZI, which incorporates an LLM-based generator synthesis step that is iteratively validated and repaired. By automating this step, DIFUZZI paves the way for broader applicability of differential fuzzing. We release DIFUZZI at https://github.com/Dristi123/difuzzi_tool, with a demonstration video at https://youtu.be/FlHNOHuo9WE

Statutory Article Retrieval from Arabic Judicial Narratives: Family Law and Law of Evidence in Saudi Arabia

Zarah Shibli, Areej Alhothali, Lulwah Alharigy

原文摘要

Reliable legal information retrieval must ground legal reasoning in authoritative statutory sources. In Arabic judicial settings, long factual narratives must be mapped to concise articles that express abstract legal rules, creating a narrative-to-legal-rule abstraction gap. Using a benchmark of 200 synthetic Saudi Arabic judicial cases and 381 articles from the Family Law and the Law of Evidence, we compare word-level and char-4 BM25, zero-shot dense encoders, per-law retrieval, dense-sparse reciprocal rank fusion (RRF), and a proposed Decompose-and-Refine (DaR) pipeline. In DaR, a large language model splits each narrative into disputed legal issues and generates, for each issue, three retrieval channels: a statute-style paraphrase, legal keywords, and a candidate taxonomy chapter. On the whole corpus, the instructed Qwen3-Embedding-8B dense encoder reaches an MRR@10 of 0.849, the best result of any non-decomposed system. Under per-law scoring, this advantage reflects Family Law only: restricted to Evidence articles, the same encoder drops to an MRR@10 of 0.087, and fusion with BM25 raises it only to 0.207. DaR changes this picture, raising Evidence MRR@10 to 0.696 and Family MRR@10 to 0.864. Without decomposition, the two laws favor different strategies; under DaR, the same retriever achieves the best MRR@10 on both.

原文摘要

Graph Foundation Models (GFMs) have recently emerged as a promising paradigm for learning transferable representations across different graphs and domains. However, existing GFMs face notable limitations, including limited pre-training scale or reliance on aligning with textual information in Large Language Models (LLMs). To overcome these limitations, recent studies have drawn inspiration from prior-data fitted networks (PFNs), which learn from large synthetic datasets and support multi-domain prediction backed by causal learning. However, existing graph PFNs encounter severe difficulties in modeling causal relationships within and across node and edge sets, generating diverse graph structures, and designing suitable architectures that can learn from complex synthetic datasets. To address these challenges, we propose **GSCM-PFN** (Graph SCM-based Prior-Data Fitted Network), a graph PFN pre-trained on synthetic data generated from an SCM-based prior that jointly models nodes and graph topology. Specifically, we (1) design a joint feature-edge-label structural causal model (SCM) to guide synthetic graph generation and capture causal relationships within and across node and edge sets; (2) introduce prior-guided node-edge dependency modeling to instantiate diverse graph generation strategies, and prove that our SCM-based generation prior is more expressive than existing priors; and (3) propose a feature-permutation-invariant dual-path graph network with theoretical guarantees for learning from diverse synthetic graphs. Experiments on 23 real-world benchmarks show that GSCM-PFN outperforms both conventional GFMs and PFN-based GFMs, without utilizing real-world graph data for pre-training. Optimal Regret for Communication-Efficient Decentralized Online Learning

Sifan Yang, Wenhao Yang, Wei Jiang, Yuanyu Wan, Lijun Zhang

原文摘要

In this paper, we investigate decentralized online convex optimization with compressed communication, where $n$ learners over a network jointly minimize a sequence of global loss functions based only on their local losses and compressed messages from their neighbors. The best known regret bounds for this problem are $O(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1}\sqrt{T\ln n})$ and $O(ω^{-1}nρ^{-2}\ln n\ln T)$ for convex and strongly convex loss functions, respectively, where $ρ\in(0,1)$ is the spectral gap of the communication matrix and $ω\in(0,1]$ is the compression quality factor. Compared with the corresponding lower bounds of $Ω(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1/4}\sqrt{T})$ and $Ω(ω^{-1}nρ^{-1/2}\ln T)$, these upper bounds exhibit polynomial gaps in their dependence on $ρ^{-1}$. To close these gaps, we first develop Ascent-gossip, which combines an online compression strategy with a Chebyshev recursion and attains a faster consensus rate than existing compressed gossip methods. Furthermore, by adopting Ascent-gossip, we propose an online algorithm that achieves optimal regret bounds of $\widetilde O(ω^{-1/2}nρ^{-1/4}\sqrt{T})$ and $\widetilde O(ω^{-1}nρ^{-1/2}\ln T)$ for convex and strongly convex loss functions, respectively. Up to logarithmic factors in $n$ and $ρ^{-1}$, these results match the lower bounds in terms of $T$, $n$, $ρ$, and $ω$.

Fu-TCM: a multimodal large language model that learns traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic reasoning

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) are advancing in multimodal understanding and reasoning, accelerating medical model development. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) uses evidence from the four examinations to determine disease location and nature, differentiate syndromes and guide treatment. This diagnostic process constitutes a complete chain of reasoning. We present Fu-TCM, a multimodal TCM LLM trained on data retained after cleaning and filtering an initial collection of approximately 7.12 million examples derived from classical texts, textbooks, medical images, clinical cases and publicly available datasets. The model was further optimized using Bianzheng-Grounded Policy Optimization (BGPO), which explicitly targets syndrome differentiation through rewards for response format, intermediate TCM reasoning fields and final syndrome predictions. Fu-TCM-27B led all six benchmarks spanning TCM reasoning, text and vision, achieving a macro-average accuracy of 81.01% and surpassing the strongest reference model with complete results across all six benchmarks by 7.13 percentage points. Its largest margin was 11.90 points on Fu-bianzheng. Case-level analyses further showed a positive association between intermediate-field accuracy and final syndrome-selection accuracy in most evaluated models. These findings suggest that TCM syndrome differentiation may be computationally learnable and that structured reasoning supervision can improve performance across TCM tasks.

MUSE: Multi-Level Memory with Selective Runtime Injection for Scientific Coding Agents

Haoran Jin, Defu Lian, Xiting Wang, Hong Xie

原文摘要

Historical experience can guide scientific coding at multiple levels, but task-level retrieval may miss implementation lessons that become relevant during execution. We introduce MUSE, a memory management framework combining multi-level memory with selective runtime injection for scientific coding agents. MUSE builds global, approach-level, and implementation-level memory from historical trajectories. At initialization, the agent receives global memory and problem-matched approach-level memory. During execution, current interactions are used to retrieve implementation-level memory. An LLM gate selects relevant experience and generates specific review advice, or skips injection. Across four benchmarks spanning numerical problem solving, kernel optimization, and scientific software repair, MUSE outperforms retrieval and memory baselines on all evaluation metrics. Ablations support the multi-level design and gated injection, while transfer experiments show that memory remains useful across kernel benchmarks. These results show that multi-level memory and selective runtime injection enable effective reuse of experience in scientific coding. Code is available at https://github.com/hr-jin/MUSE.

Reasoning from Traces: Divergence-Guided Agentic Repair of WebAssembly Discrepancies

Liyan Huang, Kaicheng Wang, Amy Zhang, Weihang Wang

原文摘要

WebAssembly (Wasm) promises seamless reuse of C/C++ codebases as portable, efficient, sandboxed binaries for execution on the Web. In practice, however, this promise often falls short: recent studies show that cross-compiling C/C++ source to Wasm and native binaries frequently produces runtime discrepancies due to differences in library implementation and compiler bugs. Since the root causes are platform-level and hidden beneath the source code, even state-of-the-art LLM-based coding agents can struggle to diagnose and repair these discrepancies. In this paper, we present WasmMend, the first system for automatically repairing Native-Wasm functional discrepancies. WasmMend transforms open-ended debugging into a two-stage process. First, a novel differential trace analysis approach localizes the function where Wasm and native executions first diverge. Second, guided by this localization, a multi-agent system coordinates separate agents to interpret platform-specific behavior and synthesizes patch plans. Experiments on discrepancies from real-world C/C++ projects show that, across five backbone models, WasmMend achieves a fix rate of up to 84.8%, with average gains of at least 37.2 percentage points over the evaluated open-source coding agent baselines, while maintaining comparable cost.

GSVC: Efficient Video Representation and Compression Through 2D Gaussian Splatting

Longan Wang, Yuang Shi, Wei Tsang Ooi

原文摘要

In this work, we explore 2D Gaussian splat as a new primitive for representing and compressing videos, showing its promise as an alternative to traditional signal-based primitives. We introduce GSVC, a new Gaussian splatting-based video codec that incorporates common techniques used in classical video codecs to exploit temporal redundancy between nearby frames. In GSVC, each frame is represented by a set of overlapping Gaussian splats, which, when rendered together, approximate the original frame. Gaussian splats for the first frame and subsequent frames following scene changes (called anchor frames) are learned from scratch, while the remaining frames (called propagation frames) are initialized from the Gaussian splats of their previous frames and then fine-tuned. Scene changes are detected through loss differences during the training process. To capture large motion or newly appeared objects, we randomly add Gaussian splats to propagation frames before fine-tuning. GSVC supports a knob for rate-distortion trade-offs through controlling the number of Gaussian splats for each frame. Gaussian splats with low contributions to the frame quality can be removed during training. GSVC supports two-pass encoding by propagating the Gaussian splats from a future propagation frame back to an anchor frame, further improving the video quality for challenging video scenes. To achieve efficient compression, GSVC uses a residual-based Gaussian splats quantization framework that encodes only changes to the Gaussian parameters between frames. Experimental results show that GSVC achieves rate-distortion performance comparable to state-of-the-art video codec implementations for AV1 and VVC. GSVC inherits the advantages of Gaussian splatting in rendering, allowing it to achieve the rendering speed of 1500 fps for a $1920\times 1080$ video. Multi-Token Prediction Done Right

Jayden Teoh

原文摘要

Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) is now a common ingredient in language-model pre-training, as it improves downstream performance and enables faster inference through speculative decoding. We identify a flaw in standard MTP training, in which a residual component of the MTP gradient interferes with both next-token and multi-token learning, increasingly so with scale. Specifically, the MTP cross-entropy gradient can be decomposed exactly into a KL self-distillation term that pulls each MTP head toward the model's own next-token prediction (NTP) distribution and improves speculative decoding, and a residual that has a low signal-to-noise ratio and buries the useful KL signal. We introduce the KL gradient-recovery trick: when two distributions share a linear output head, the gradient of their KL divergence can be recovered exactly by combining their cross-entropy gradients through straight-through gradient routing. Unlike minimizing the KL directly, this trick requires no vocabulary-sized logit matrices and is compatible with standard fused cross-entropy kernels. This enables Soft Multi-Token Prediction (Soft-MTP), a one-line code change to MTP that removes the noisy residual and backpropagates only the KL self-distillation signal by reusing the existing NTP and MTP cross-entropy computations. Soft-MTP supports both DeepSeek- and Meta-style MTP, adds no parameters, and incurs no measurable overhead. From 167M to 1.2B parameters, Soft-MTP improves over standard MTP with lower NTP perplexity, faster speculative decoding and higher zero-shot accuracy at every scale, lower MTP perplexity from 689M onward, and stronger math and code reasoning after fine-tuning at 1.2B. Soft-MTP also matches, if not exceeds, direct KL divergence minimization on most metrics. Soft-MTP is, in effect, a free lunch for MTP optimization. A Case Study of a Multi-Agent Kernel-Optimization Loop That Learns a New AI Accelerator

Byonggon Chun

原文摘要

Frontier large language models write correct CUDA kernels for most single-operator benchmark tasks, yet their accuracy collapses on accelerators whose architecture and programming language they have rarely seen. We present a case study of an LLM agent loop built for such accelerators. Our example is the FuriosaAI RNGD NPU, programmed in a recent, sparsely documented Rust DSL, where the loop optimized three Gemma-4-12B decode kernels over 12 days on a shared, scarce device. The loop builds its own target knowledge: it writes and checks a summary of the DSL documentation, measures the chip with microbenchmarks, records compiler-derived legality rules, and revisits this knowledge when the toolchain changes, rechecking rules and measurements where it can. A role-based search over per-kernel Design Trees explores whole-kernel designs and accumulates small accepted changes in the best version of each kernel. Because device time is scarce and readings are noisy, cheap checks screen new designs before any device run, and late in the run a change was accepted only after repeated comparisons with the best kernel on the device. The final kernels reach a 9.293x geomean speedup over the official baseline, each within 1.25x of the cycles needed just to move its weights. Our prompts, profiler and acceptance test are available at https://github.com/bgchun-fs/multi-agent-kernel-gen-loop.

Optimal Encodings for Next/Previous Larger/Smaller Value Queries: A Unified Approach

Seungbum Jo, Geunho Kim, Kunihiko Sadakane, Srinivasa Rao Satti

原文摘要

Given a 1D array over a total order and a query position in the array, a next larger value query returns the nearest position to the right whose value is larger than the value at the query position. Next smaller value queries and previous larger/smaller value queries are defined analogously. These queries are closely related to the $k$-th range minimum/maximum problem, which asks for the position of the $k$-th leftmost minimum/maximum value when the query range contains multiple minimum/maximum values. In this paper, we consider the encoding problem for answering any arbitrary subfamily of these four queries, where the queries must be answered without accessing the input array. We give a unified approach for obtaining space lower bounds for such encodings. We also obtain data structures for the query subfamilies that match the lower bounds up to lower-order additive terms, while supporting the queries in constant time. Our results generalize and improve several previous results on this problem [Gawrychowski and Nicholson, ICALP-2015; Jo and Satti, TCS-2016; Tsur, IPL-2019; Jo and Kim, Algorithmica-2025]. In addition, these results give tight bounds on the encoding complexity of all subfamilies of these queries for (1) permutations, (2) arrays without consecutive equal elements, and (3) general arrays.

Can LLMs Faithfully Solve Ontology Engineering Tasks? A Mechanistic Interpretability Study

Bohui Zhang, Albert Meroño-Peñuela, Elena Simperl

原文摘要

Ontological knowledge underpins large language model (LLM) performance on knowledge-intensive tasks. However, existing evaluations of LLMs' ontological understanding largely rely on behavioral correctness, leaving the underlying mechanisms unexplained. Existing mechanistic interpretability work has largely focused on instance-level factual knowledge, leaving ontological knowledge under-explored. To bridge this gap, we introduce MIOE, a causal-abstraction benchmark that evaluates interchange interventions for two ontology engineering tasks: entity typing and subsumption prediction. MIOE tests whether learned internal intervention targets can change an ontology-level target answer while preserving class-specific auxiliary information. Across Qwen3-8B and Qwen3-4B, we evaluate SAE-, DBM-, and DAS-based methods, including multi-task and multi-layer variants. Distributed subspace methods give the strongest results and generalize across prompt settings, but the induced changes remain only partially separated from auxiliary class-specific information. Multi-task objectives and contiguous layer-window interventions improve this balance, while class-level analyses reveal substantial variation across ontology classes. These results suggest that ontological predictions are mechanistically accessible in LLMs, although current methods do not yet isolate a cleanly disentangled causal mechanism for ontological knowledge.

SSQA: Sibling-Selective Quadtree Attention for Hierarchical Modeling in Perception Tasks

Yufan Chen, Arnav Bali, Angela Liu, Laura Zheng, Ming C. Lin

原文摘要

Perception tasks for navigation in robotics, including aerial platforms such as drones and autonomous driving systems, are inherently structured. Drone-mounted cameras typically capture sky above, terrain below, and obstacles or man-made structures in between, while driving data often contains organized road layouts, lane markings, and surrounding agents. Motivated by these axis-aligned structural priors, we note that such information is typically more structured than in generic image tasks. We hypothesize that processing information in a quadtree-esque manner can not only model features effectively in a hierarchical manner, but also offers an efficient linear-time alternative to vanilla attention mechanisms, which run in quadratic time. In this paper, we propose Sibling-Selective Quadtree Attention (SSQA), which models image tokens hierarchically as a structured, full quadtree. We show analytical complexity analysis that guarantees linear-time feature modeling, in addition to empirical experiments comparing inference speeds with other popular modeling approaches, such as Mamba 2 and Quadtree Attention. Our results, benchmarked across several tasks, show that we achieve results at least as good, if not notably better, as others at a fraction of the computational costs.

Extremely Sparse-View Computed Tomography from 2D Projections via Pose-Aware Diffusion Priors

Linrui Dai, Jinxiu Liang, Chu Zhou, Mae Yamaguchi, Ryuya Takahashi, Imari Sato

原文摘要

Extremely sparse-view computed tomography (xSV-CT) is critical when scanning time, motion, or radiation tolerance limits each scan to only a few projections. In many such scenarios, the same acquisition limits also constrain dataset construction, making pre-reconstructed 3D volumes from dense scans unavailable. This exposes a gap in current sparse-view approaches: Optimization-based methods, which use the sparse measurements directly but lack data-driven priors to suppress artifacts, and learning-based methods, which use strong priors but usually require densely scanned training volumes acquired outside the xSV-CT regime. We study this train-sparse / infer-sparse setting by learning a pose-aware diffusion prior from one 2D projection per training sample, then guiding diffusion sampling with measured-view fidelity, shared-volume reprojection, and projection-physics consistency for tomographic reconstruction. On two public CT datasets across 1-, 4-, and 8-view settings, the proposed method achieves the best novel-view synthesis scores and best or competitive reconstruction quality compared with baselines that use dense-volume supervision.

Turbo4DGen: Ultra-Fast Acceleration for 4D Generation

Yuanbin Man, Ying Huang, Zhile Ren, Miao Yin

原文摘要

4D generation, or dynamic 3D content generation, integrates spatial, temporal, and view dimensions to model realistic dynamic scenes, playing a foundational role in advancing world models and physical AI. However, maintaining long-chain consistency across both frames and viewpoints through the unique spatio-camera-motion (SCM) attention mechanism introduces substantial computational and memory overhead, often leading to out-of-memory (OOM) failures and prohibitive generation times. To address these challenges, we propose Turbo4DGen, an ultra-fast acceleration framework for diffusion-based multi-view 4D content generation. Turbo4DGen introduces a spatiotemporal cache mechanism that persistently reuses intermediate attention across denoising steps, combined with dynamically semantic-aware attention pruning and an adaptive SCM chain bypass scheduler, to drastically reduce redundant SCM attention computation. Our experimental results show that Turbo4DGen achieves an average 9.7$\times$ speedup without quality degradation on the ObjaverseDy and Consistent4D datasets. To the best of our knowledge, Turbo4DGen is the first dedicated acceleration framework for 4D generation.

Morphological Decoupling-Based Skeletal Classification for Clinical Assessment of Malocclusion

Zhichun Jin, Zhicheng He, Hao Xu, Dongyang Li, Lin Wang, Hongliang Ren, Long Bai

原文摘要

Malocclusion skeletal grading is a fundamental task in orthodontics, critical for diagnosis and treatment planning. Traditionally, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is used for visual measurement, and the reconstructed lateral cephalograms are handed over to expert dentists for diagnosis. However, manual review is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and subject to inter-operator variability. Therefore, an automatic CBCT-based system is needed for reliable malocclusion skeletal grading. In this case, we develop TeethGNN, a novel graph-based framework designed to combine CBCT image features with morphological information for accurate and efficient malocclusion grading. TeethGNN utilizes a decoupled learnable decoder to directly predict key morphological indicators from CBCT images, eliminating the need for manual measurements. These morphological features are then fused with image features using a graph neural network (GNN), which effectively models the relationships between the modalities. To further enhance robustness and calibration, we introduce a collaborative calibration strategy. This strategy combines multi-scale graph adversarial perturbation for explicit calibration and nonlinear topological graph calibration for implicit confidence adjustment. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on our collected clinical dataset demonstrate that our malocclusion measurement system achieves 77.08\% in accuracy and 89.61\% in AUC, outperforming the compared state-of-the-art methods. These results validate the effectiveness of graph-based multimodal fusion and collaborative calibration in improving malocclusion grading performance. Our system shows strong potential for advancing computer-aided orthodontic diagnosis, providing an accurate and reliable solution for vision-based clinical measurement and diagnosis.

PRISM: Festina Lente Proactivity -- Risk-Sensitive, Uncertainty-Aware Deliberation for Proactive Agents

Yuxuan Fu, Xiaoyu Tan, Teqi Hao, Chen Zhan, Xihe Qiu

原文摘要

Proactive agents must decide not only what to say but also whether and when to intervene. Many current systems rely on brittle heuristics or indiscriminate long reasoning, which offers little control over the benefit-burden tradeoff. We formulate the problem as cost-sensitive selective intervention and present PRISM, a novel framework that couples a decision-theoretic gate with a dual-process reasoning architecture. At inference time, the agent intervenes only when a calibrated probability of user acceptance exceeds a threshold derived from asymmetric costs of missed help and false alarms. Inspired by festina lente (Latin: "make haste slowly"), we gate by an acceptance-calibrated, cost-derived threshold and invoke a resource-intensive Slow mode with counterfactual checks only near the decision boundary, concentrating computation on ambiguous and high-stakes cases. Training uses gate-aligned, schema-locked distillation: a teacher running the full PRISM pipeline provides dense, executable supervision on unlabeled interaction traces, while the student learns a response policy that is explicitly decoupled from the intervention gate to enable tunable and auditable control. On ProactiveBench, PRISM reduces false alarms by 22.78% and improves F1 by 20.14% over strong baselines. These results show that principled decision-theoretic gating, paired with selective slow reasoning and aligned distillation, yields proactive agents that are precise, computationally efficient, and controllable. To facilitate reproducibility, we release our code, models, and resources at https://prism-festinalente.github.io/; all experiments use the open-source ProactiveBench benchmark.

原文摘要

Artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs) are transforming educational technology by enabling conversational tutoring, personalised explanations, and inquiry-driven learning. However, most AI-based learning systems rely on continuous internet connectivity and cloud-based computation, limiting their use in bandwidth-constrained environments. This paper presents Arapai, an offline-first large language model architecture designed for AI-assisted learning in low-connectivity settings. The system performs all inference locally using quantized language models and incorporates hardware-aware model selection to enable deployment on low-specification, CPU-only devices. By removing dependence on cloud infrastructure, the system provides curriculum-aligned explanations and structured academic support through natural-language interaction. To support learners at different educational stages, the system includes adaptive response levels that generate explanations at varying levels of complexity: Simple English, Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary, and Technical. The system was evaluated with 120 students and 9 instructors from secondary and tertiary institutions under limited-connectivity conditions. Results indicate stable operation on legacy hardware, acceptable response times of 1-3 seconds for typical queries, and positive user perceptions of its effectiveness in supporting self-directed learning.

原文摘要

AI compute is becoming large and fast-changing electrical loads. Its impacts on data center infrastructure and power grids depend not only on total energy consumption, but also on how their power draw moves over sub-second to minute timescales, including peaks, ramps, and synchronized fluctuations across accelerators. Existing energy benchmarks for large language models (LLMs) report aggregate quantities such as joules per token and rarely release the underlying time-series measurements, leaving these power dynamics poorly characterized and difficult to model. We introduce LLM-PowerTrace, an open dataset of time-resolved, per-GPU power traces for LLM fine-tuning and inference, sampled every 100\,ms on varying NVIDIA platforms paired with complete workload and system metadata. For fine-tuning, LLM-PowerTrace profiles open model families spanning a wide range of model sizes and fine-tuning methods, together with controlled sweeps over batch size, sequence length, precision, parallelism, and checkpointing. For inference, it covers variations in concurrency, GPU frequency, KV-cache and weight quantization, prompt and output lengths, and request-arrival patterns. LLM-PowerTrace profiles a set of open model families across a wide range of model sizes, and controlled sweeps over batch size, sequence length, precision, parallelism, and checkpointing for fine-tuning, and it sweeps concurrency, GPU frequency, KV cache and weight quantization, prompt and output lengths, and request arrival patterns for inference. Built upon power traces, we define power-grid-facing metrics as well as AI-compute power\&energy scaling law for extrapolating beyond the measured settings. Together, LLM-PowerTrace provides a dataset foundation for modeling, forecasting, and managing the fast-changing electrical behavior of AI compute.

Your Policy Is Secretly a Harness: The Decision Geometry of Agent Interfaces

Jian Mu, Ruibo Shen, Yao Shu

原文摘要

Language model agents are post-trained and deployed through a harness, the prompts, tools, and control logic that present a task to the model and execute its outputs. Harnesses are often revised and judged by how an already trained model performs under them, which assumes that what the model learned under one harness carries over to the next. We ask what a policy learns from its harness and what survives when the harness changes. Under KL-regularized control, we show that the log odds of an optimal policy recover how strongly its harness favors each action over the others, so a trained policy carries the preferences of its harness. Deployed return then equals the ceiling of the harness, the best return it offers, minus the mismatch of the policy, the return lost to its own suboptimal decisions. Training changes only the mismatch, while changing the harness moves both terms. Comparing harnesses with a fixed model therefore mixes what each harness offers with how well that model uses it. In MiniWoB++, post-training makes a model's preferences specific to its training harness. Reversing the order of the observation fields leaves every optimal decision unchanged yet lowers a trained model's success from 85.0% to 19.2%. Conversely, every new harness that a fixed-model comparison rejects but that raises the ceiling outperforms the original agent after further training under it, and ceiling and mismatch measured beforehand predict these gains. For coding-agent harnesses on Terminal-Bench Lite, ceiling minus mismatch estimated with a stronger model as a stand-in for the optimum reproduces the accuracy ranking, while either term alone does not. Code is available at https://github.com/2020-qqtcg/HRP.

Yongxin Deng, Zhen Fang, Guansong Pang, Sharon Li, Ling Chen

原文摘要

Hallucination detection is critical for deploying large language models (LLMs) in real-world applications. Due to strong empirical performance, internal representation-based methods have emerged as the prevailing direction for detecting hallucinations, yet they remain largely model-specific and often fail to generalize to unseen LLMs. In this paper, we study an important yet underexplored problem, termed cross-model hallucination detection (CMHD), which aims to train hallucination detectors on source LLMs while ensuring performance on unseen target LLMs. The core challenge of CMHD lies in cross-model representation heterogeneity: hidden states from different LLMs exhibit severe semantic inconsistency, which limits the transferability of classical representation-based detectors. Through analysis and empirical validation, we show that relational structures over layers, tokens, and features capture transferable detection signals despite semantic inconsistency. Based on this observation, we propose cross-model hallucination detection via heterogeneity-oriented relational discrimination (CHORD), a relational graph discrimination framework that represents hidden states as joint relational graphs over layers, tokens, and features. It feeds these graphs into relation-aware attention to obtain structure-aware features, and uses meta-learning to shape these features toward transferable detection signals. Extensive experiments show that CHORD outperforms representative detection methods in cross-model generalization. Code is available at https://github.com/MiracleworkerD/CHORD.

The Polynomial-Time Low-Degree Conjecture is False

Songtao Mao

原文摘要

The low-degree method and its associated lower bounds are widely used to guide algorithm design and to provide evidence of computational hardness in average-case inference, high-dimensional statistics, random optimization, and related problems. This led to the low-degree conjecture, which predicts that when the low-degree advantage between a planted distribution and a uniform null distribution remains bounded, no efficient distinguisher can succeed after independent noise, provided that the planted distribution has permutation symmetry. Several works have produced counterexamples to variants of this conjecture or to versions for algorithms with higher time complexity, but the conjecture remained open in its standard binary, polynomial-time formulation. We disprove the polynomial-time low-degree conjecture by giving a family of examples. For every fixed integer $r\geq3$, we construct a permutation-invariant distribution $\mathbb{P}_n$ on simple graphs, with $\mathbb{Q}_n=G(n,1/2)$, such that every marginal of $\mathbb{P}_n$ on at most $D_n=Θ((\log n)^{r-1})$ edges is uniform. Therefore, the low-degree advantage is zero through degree $D_n$. Nevertheless, after every edge is independently resampled at a fixed positive rate, a deterministic rank test strongly distinguishes the resulting distribution from $\mathbb{Q}_n$ in linear time in the graph input size. The construction chooses a subspace of a Reed--Muller code whose nonzero polynomials have small absolute bias, selects points whose evaluation vectors have no short linear dependencies, and evaluates a random alternating bilinear form on pairs of these vectors. Our result shows that low-degree indistinguishability, a uniform null distribution, permutation invariance, and independent resampling do not by themselves imply polynomial-time hardness, and suggests that a valid general conjecture must impose an additional condition.

Game-Theoretic Foundations for Undiscounted Bisimulation Metrics

Matthew Zurek, Yudong Chen, Josiah P. Hanna

原文摘要

Bisimulation metrics offer a principled notion of task-relevant state similarity in reinforcement learning, but existing constructions and methods are largely confined to discounted MDPs, where contraction arguments ensure well-defined fixed points and downstream guarantees. We develop a unified foundation for bisimulation metrics in undiscounted settings, that is total- and average-reward problems, by replacing the standard operator-centric view with a game-centric one: we interpret prior metric operators as Bellman-Shapley operators of zero-sum turn-based games and define metrics as the corresponding game value functions, yielding unique definitions even when $γ=1$. This game-theoretic foundation facilitates transfer of dynamic-programming theory and algorithms. We also use this game-centric perspective to characterize how metric finiteness depends on structural properties of the underlying MDP and motivate certain directed metrics that remain finite in weakly communicating MDPs. We further introduce an abstract framework for modifying the games' action spaces, allowing general transition coupling sets, that recovers many existing metrics and guides new constructions. Finally, we prove that these metrics bound total-reward and, when the optimal gain is state-independent, optimal relative value differences. We also provide error and suboptimality guarantees for aggregation-based planning in total- and average-reward settings.

Robust LLM-Generated Text Detection through Matched Conditional-Response Probing

Junfeng Hao, Wenxian Wang, Tao Leng, Xingshu Chen, Hao Ren, Haizhou Wang

原文摘要

Reliable detection of large language model (LLM)-generated text must remain effective under meaning-preserving text revisions, such as rewriting, polishing, and expansion. In practice, LLM outputs are often rewritten, polished, expanded, translated, or lightly edited before publication, weakening the lexical, syntactic, and local discourse cues used by many existing detectors. We introduce \textbf{M}atched \textbf{C}onditional-\textbf{R}esponse \textbf{P}robing (\textbf{MCRP}), a frozen-LLM probing framework that measures how a candidate text responds when a semantically matched condition is introduced, removed, or replaced. For each candidate, the frozen probe LLM first generates a short semantic condition and then compares token-level losses and prompt--target attention measurements under matched, null, and control conditions. It aggregates bidirectional conditioned alignment, counterfactual sensitivity, and internal attention coupling into a probe representation, on which it trains a lightweight supervised random-forest classifier while keeping the probe LLM frozen. Across standard detection, robustness to meaning-preserving text revisions, multilingual, and multidomain evaluations, MCRP achieves consistently strong performance. Under rewriting, polishing, and expansion, it reaches 93.97\% F1 and 96.24\% ROC-AUC, outperforming the strongest evaluated baseline by 19.50 and 25.77 percentage points, respectively. Component ablations show that the response feature groups make complementary contributions to predictive performance. In the condition-control study, matched conditions consistently outperform random, mismatched, and corrupted alternatives, demonstrating a measurable incremental benefit from semantic matching.

Does 3D Pose Improve Action Valuation in Football? An Empirical Study of Pose Representations and Learning Objectives

Rikuhei Umemoto, Kenjiro Ide, Soham Majumder, Ulf Brefeld, Keisuke Fujii

原文摘要

Football action valuation estimates players' contributions to future scoring. Existing multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) models use 2D positions and velocities, omitting posture information relevant to imminent actions. We investigate whether adding 3D pose to a SARSA-based model improves observed-action values relative to attack returns: goals, conceded goals or final expected possession value. Using UEFA Champions League 2022/23 event, tracking and 3D pose data, we compare six representations (no pose, raw joints, torso and head orientation, and spatial-temporal graph convolutional network (ST-GCN) embeddings) across five learning settings and three seeds. The settings vary temporal-difference targets and action-prediction loss, with Monte Carlo return regression as a reference. Across 50 on-ball and off-ball comparisons, pose robustly improved return prediction in only three, all using torso and head orientation, while worsening it in twelve, mostly with ST-GCN. Training choices had greater effects: removing the action-prediction loss raised on-ball skill of position-only values from 0.003 to 0.040 and their correlation with expected goals from 0.23 to 0.60; the improvement in return prediction persisted at matched training length. Separately, pose improved prediction of the on-ball action 0.2 s ahead (macro AUC 0.914 to 0.934 with raw joints), while the passer's pose during execution improved pass-success prediction (AUC 0.844 to 0.856). Within this training protocol, pose informed imminent actions but rarely improved observed-action values.

Positive Characteristic Sets for Relational Pattern Languages

S. Mahmoud Mousawi, Sandra Zilles

原文摘要

In the context of learning formal languages, data about an unknown target language L is given in terms of a set of (word, label) pairs, where a binary label indicates whether or not the given word belongs to L. A (polynomial-size) characteristic set for L, with respect to a reference class L of languages, is a set of such pairs that satisfies certain conditions allowing a learning algorithm to (efficiently) identify L within L. In this paper, we introduce the notion of positive characteristic set, referring to characteristic sets of only positive examples. These are of importance in the context of learning from positive examples only. We study this notion for classes of relational pattern languages, which are of relevance to various applications in string processing.

Exact Second-Order Asymptotics for the Gaussian Gray--Wyner Problem

Lin Zhou, Lei Yu

原文摘要

We revisit the Gray-Wyner problem of lossy compression of bivariate Gaussian sources under the quadratic distortion measure and derive the exact second-order asymptotics. Specifically, we first identify the boundary rate tuples using the explicit first-order asymptotics by Yu (TIT 2023) and then characterize the tradeoff among three second-order coding rates subject to a constraint on the joint excess-distortion probability. Our main contribution is the achievability proof, where we derive a covariance shell covering lemma that is analogous to the type covering lemma for the discrete case. In particular, our covering lemma classifies the source sequences into power shell types via their empirical covariance matrix. For each such power shell type, we derive sufficient conditions on the compression rates so that covering within distortion levels are achievable. Finally, asymptotical analysis via the Berry-Esseen theorem yields the desired result.

Bastion: Budget-Aware Speculative Decoding with Tree-structured Block Diffusion Drafting

Soowon Oh, Nam Cao, Yujin Kim, Hojung Jung, Huzama Ahmad, Sangmin Bae, Se-Young Yun

原文摘要

Block-diffusion drafters have recently emerged as a powerful alternative for speculative decoding by predicting multiple future-token distributions in a single parallel step. However, since these parallel predictions are sampled from position-wise marginals rather than fully conditioned sequences, committing to a single greedy path often fails to capture the target model's preferred trajectory. To address this, we propose BASTION, a budget-aware speculative decoding framework with tree-based diffusion drafting. Unlike existing methods that rely on static tree topologies, BASTION dynamically constructs query-dependent trees by balancing draft quality against hardware constraints. Our framework integrates three synergistic components: (1) an acceptance surrogate that estimates expected accepted length via path confidence, (2) an online latency estimator that calibrates a hardware-aware roofline model, and (3) an adaptive best-first expansion that grows the tree until marginal gains no longer justify incremental verification costs. BASTION is training-free, preserves the target model's distribution, and requires no per-setting tuning. Across diverse benchmarks and GPU architectures, BASTION achieves up to a $6.61\times$ speedup over standard autoregressive decoding, outperforming state-of-the-art block-diffusion baselines by 39%.

Inner-Learning: From Hand-Coded Beliefs to Declarative Knowledge in Trick-Taking Games

Stefan Edelkamp

原文摘要

We present a declarative approach to belief-state modeling in trick-taking card games. Starting from a state-of-the-art Skat player, we automatically extract its hand-coded inference rules into a domain-specific language built on the primitive $\neg\mathsf{holds}(P,C)$, denoting that player $P$ cannot hold any card in set $C$. Round-trip code generation verifies that the extracted rules reproduce the original engine's intended behavior, up to three audited bugs in the original that the declarative engine corrects. We then grow the rule base through symmetric derivation and annotation of an expert strategy document---unifying code, symmetry, and expertise in one representation. We extend the knowledge representation with \emph{cardinality constraints}: at-most-$k$ and at-least-$k$ bounds on the cards a player holds from a named group, expressed in the same declarative language and enforced at world-generation time. Confidence parameters connect symbolic rules to probabilistic belief updates. Self-play evaluation shows the declarative engine measurably improving winning percentage and score over the original hand-coded engine, with the extracted rules, the human-annotated rules, and the cardinality constraints each contributing to the effect.
