Compounding Physical RSI: Turning Execution Failure into Inherited Capability

Yixuan Yang, Qiang Chen, Run Shao, Shuwei Dong, Wenhao Li, Yunpeng Wang, Wenhan Fang, Haomiao Wu 等 34 位作者

Generalist robot policies are trained on static offline datasets, yet physical manipulation unfolds sequentially across stages. Because a weakness in a downstream stage remains unobservable until the policy passes earlier ones, each resolved bottleneck exposes the next hidden failure mode. This staged structure calls for Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI), in which a policy iteratively executes, diagnoses failures, and updates itself. Moreover, because task completion behaves like a product of stage-level pass rates, recursive gains can multiply across generations. In physical environments, three bottlenecks obstruct compounding: terminal execution feedback rarely localizes the stage that caused a failure, failed trajectories do not supply the corrective action, and updating shared parameters can degrade previously mastered skills. We propose Compounding Physical RSI, a self-evolving policy framework that turns execution failures into heritable capability. First, automated capability-gap assessment traces failed rollouts to the task stage where progression breaks down and formulates a structured improvement objective. Second, conditioned on this objective, our remedy stage curates validated, stage-relevant experience and refines the policy via behavior-regularized offline reinforcement learning, without requiring costly online rollouts at each optimization step. Third, to safeguard existing skills, our retention stage constructs weight-space candidates between the inherited reference policy and the refined policy, evaluates them across the task suite, and promotes the best candidate as the reference state for the next generation. Evaluated across all 42 tasks of the RoboDojo-Sim benchmark, CSU-AI-07 ranks first on the leaderboard with a three-seed mean Overall Score of 26.15 and Success Rate of 20.70%, outperforming the next-best entry by 5.92 points and 5.82 percentage points.

Bug2Scenario: Root-Cause-Preserving Test Scenario Amplification for Autonomous Driving Software

Yuchen Cao, Zhenyu Mao, Jacky Wai Keung, Yifei Wang, Yihan Liao, Jingyu Zhang

Simulation-based fuzzing exposes autonomous driving system (ADS) failures by repeatedly mutating and executing scenarios, but converting one failure into reusable regression scenarios remains difficult. Such variants test whether the mechanism persists after software changes, for example by varying weather or actor placement while retaining a collision's actor-route conflict. We present Bug2Scenario, a root-cause-guided post-fuzzing framework. From scenario data, traces, and oracle evidence, it extracts a root-cause pattern. An LLM proposes semantic variations over actors, missions, routes, and weather. Deterministic rules construct DriveFuzz-compatible scenarios. Execution evidence and manual review assess preservation. Separating these responsibilities prevents fluency, syntax, or recurring labels from masquerading as causal evidence. Under matched seeds, six LLM backbones, candidate budget, and execution pipeline, Bug2Scenario improves strict preservation by 6.7 percentage points (p=0.104; not significant) and boundary-inclusive preservation by 10.6 points (p=0.011). Feedback helps some initially unsuccessful seeds yield a strictly preserved candidate. Seed-level stopping then avoids further API calls and simulator runs. Remaining failures reflect actor-placement constraints, simulator instability, and incomplete or conflicting causal evidence. Bug2Scenario thus produces reliable ADS regression assets. Our implementation is available at https://github.com/YgcCoder/Bug2Sce.

Design of an Underwater Vehicle With Orientation-Adjustable Thrusters and Adaptive Tracking Control

Yifei Wang, Shihan Kong, Zhanhua Xin, Kaiwei Zhu, Junzhi Yu

Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) are essential for marine exploration and research. However, conventional designs often struggle with limited maneuverability in complex and dynamic underwater environments. This paper presents an orientation-adjustable thruster UUV (OAT-UUV) with vector thrusters, enabling full six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) motion. and composite maneuvers. To overcome challenges associated with uncertain model parameters and environmental disturbances, a vision-based tracking control system based on a novel feedforward adaptive model predictive controller (FF-AMPC) is proposed to achieve robust object tracking, which integrates realtime state feedback with adaptive parameter updating. Extensive experiments, including closed-loop tracking and composite motion tests in real-world environment, have been conducted. The obtained results demonstrate that the orientation-adjustable propulsion design significantly improves the underwater maneuverability, while the FF-AMPC controller achieves a 49.1% hovering improvement compared to conventional controller.

The Cryptocurrency Trend Factor Revisited: Predictive Information, Portfolio Construction, and Pricing Claims

Yifei Wang, Zhenling Pang

We reassess five economic claims about the cryptocurrency trend factor (CTREND): cross-sectional return predictability, high risk-adjusted performance, incremental information beyond market, size, and momentum, the ability to replace momentum in factor models, and robustness among large and liquid coins and after trading costs. Our reconstruction and code audit identify issues in information timing, technical indicators, forecast coverage, portfolio formation, and return accounting. We first correct future-information use and related settlement rules, then implement broader corrections to indicators, forecast availability, and portfolio accounting. Without additional coin exclusions, the first stage changes CTREND's mean weekly gross return from 4.07% to 4.25%, annualized Sharpe ratio from 2.08 to 1.48, and weekly alpha relative to published market, size, and momentum factors from 2.77% to 3.06%. After comprehensive correction, these become 0.05%, 0.01, and -1.38%; the alpha is no longer significant. Replacing momentum with CTREND yields an advantage in maximum squared Sharpe ratios of 0.058 in the original implementation, 0.024 after the first-stage correction, and -0.0185 after comprehensive correction, with a statistically significant overall decline. Mean weekly gross returns for the largest 100 coins change from 2.93% to 3.99% to 1.00%, while mean weekly net returns for the full long-short portfolio under the lowest assumed trading costs change from 2.93% to 3.35% to -0.87%. These findings show that reported performance and factor-substitution gains depend materially on implementation and sample composition. We distinguish predictive information, an independent return premium, and the incremental value of replacing an existing factor as separate economic claims.

MLLM-GS: Multimodal Large Language Model Prior-Guided Fast Novel View Synthesis in Extreme Environments

Zhiliang Wu, Xinye Zheng, Kun Li, Fei Wang, Hao Guo, Yanyan Wei, Guanghui Yue, Beier Zhu 等 10 位作者

Novel view synthesis (NVS) in degraded scenes aims to reconstruct 3D scenes from multi-view observations affected by various degradations, and to generate clear and photorealistic images at unseen viewpoints. Despite recent advances, existing methods often rely on degradation-specific models, limiting their generalization across diverse extreme environments. Generative models provide rich visual priors, but their outputs often suffer from pixel misalignment and color deviations, which can propagate into the reconstructed 3D scene and compromise reconstruction quality. Furthermore, the high computational and memory costs of 3D reconstruction hinder the practical application of NVS in extreme environments. To this end, we propose MLLM-GS, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) prior-guided framework for fast NVS in extreme environments. MLLM-GS consists of two branches: MLLM prior-guided view enhancement and fast 3D scene reconstruction. The former leverages the rich visual priors of a frozen MLLM to enhance views under different severe degradations and introduces a lightweight correction network to reduce pixel shifts and color distortions in MLLM outputs. With supervision from only a few paired clean views, this branch produces reliable enhanced views for all degraded observations, providing pseudo-GT views for subsequent 3D reconstruction. The latter improves 3DGS efficiency by optimizing rasterization, Gaussian memory layout, and parameter updates, reducing redundant computation, memory-access overhead, and optimization costs. Extensive experiments on multiple degraded scenes demonstrate that MLLM-GS effectively handles various severe degradations and achieves high-quality NVS with significantly lower reconstruction time and memory consumption. MER-Bench: Benchmarking Multimodal Emotional Reappraisal for Image-Text Memes

Yiqi Nie, Fei Wang, Junjie Chen, Kun Li, Yudi Cai, Dan Guo, Chenglong Li, Meng Wang

Multimodal Emotional Reappraisal (MER) aims to shift affective interpretation by rewriting and editing a situation without altering its underlying semantic context. Despite advances in controllable editing and sentiment transfer, MER remains challenging under coupled multimodal constraints, especially in internet memes where images, embedded text, and layout jointly encode affective meaning. To bridge this gap, we present MER-Bench, a systematic benchmark for MER on image-text memes, containing over 3,000 real-world memes with fine-grained annotations for emotion transformation and structure-preserving multimodal editing. MER-Bench spans diverse visual, textual, and structural settings and is paired with a structured MLLM-as-a-Judge evaluation suite, comprising eight fine-grained metrics and three aggregated objectives for emotional alignment, content fidelity, and transformation strength. Extensive evaluation of 14 advanced multimodal models reveals that: (1) current models struggle to jointly balance affect, semantics, structure, and text; (2) strong visual editing does not imply effective MER, with poor embedded text rendering and affect-aware rewriting remaining key bottlenecks. Our results identify MER as a critical capability gap in current multimodal generation systems and highlight affective image-text reasoning as a key challenge for future work. Memorize When Needed: Decoupled Memory Control for Spatially Consistent Long-Horizon Video Generation

Yanjun Guo, Zhengqiang Zhang, Pengfei Wang, Xinyue Liang, Zhiyuan Ma, Lei Zhang

Spatially consistent long-horizon video generation aims to maintain temporal and spatial consistency along predefined camera trajectories. Existing methods mostly entangle memory modeling with video generation, leading to inconsistent content during scene revisits and diminished generative capacity when exploring novel regions, even when trained on extensive annotated data. To address these limitations, we propose a decoupled framework that separates memory conditioning from generation. Our approach significantly reduces training costs while simultaneously enhancing spatial consistency and preserving the generative capacity for novel scene exploration. Specifically, we employ a lightweight, independent memory branch to learn precise spatial consistency from historical observations. We first introduce a hybrid memory representation to capture complementary temporal and spatial cues from generated frames, then leverage a per-frame cross-attention mechanism to ensure each frame is conditioned exclusively on the most spatially relevant historical information, which is injected into the generative model to ensure spatial consistency. When generating new scenes, a camera-aware gating mechanism is proposed to mediate the interaction between memory and generation modules, enabling memory conditioning only when meaningful historical references exist. Compared with the existing method, our method is highly data-efficient, yet the experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both visual quality and spatial consistency. S3KF: Spherical State-Space Kalman Filtering for Panoramic 3D Multi-Object Tracking

Zhongyuan Liu, Shaonan Yu, Jianping Li, Pengfei Wan, Xinhang Xu, Pengfei Wang, Maggie Y. Gao, Lihua Xie

Panoramic multi-object tracking is important for industrial safety monitoring, wide-area robotic perception, and infrastructure-light deployment in large workspaces. In these settings, the sensing system must provide full-surround coverage, metric geometric cues, and stable target association under wide field-of-view distortion and occlusion. Existing image-plane trackers are tightly coupled to the camera projection and become unreliable in panoramic imagery, while conventional Euclidean 3D formulations introduce redundant directional parameters and do not naturally unify angular, scale, and depth estimation. In this paper, we present $\mathbf{S^3KF}$, a panoramic 3D multi-object tracking framework built on a motorized rotating LiDAR and a quad-fisheye camera rig. The key idea is a geometry-consistent state representation on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$, where object bearing is modeled by a two-degree-of-freedom tangent-plane parameterization and jointly estimated with box scale and depth dynamics. Based on this state, we derive an extended spherical Kalman filtering pipeline that fuses panoramic camera detections with LiDAR depth observations for multimodal tracking. We further establish a map-based ground-truth generation pipeline using wearable localization devices registered to a shared global LiDAR map, enabling quantitative evaluation without motion-capture infrastructure. Experiments on self-collected real-world sequences show decimeter-level planar tracking accuracy, improved identity continuity over a 2D panoramic baseline in dynamic scenes, and real-time onboard operation on a Jetson AGX Orin platform. These results indicate that the proposed framework is a practical solution for panoramic perception and industrial-scale multi-object tracking. The project page can be found at https://kafeiyin00.github.io/S3KF/.

ReMCTS: Reflection-Enhanced Monte Carlo Tree Search for Code Generation

Huifei Wang, Xinying Huang, Yiheng Sun, Yifan Yuan

Open-weight large language models (LLMs) can generate function-level programs from natural-language prompts, but plausible candidates still fail on hidden semantics and repeat mistakes across repair attempts. We present ReMCTS, an execution-grounded, memory-augmented, LLM-guided MCTS-style search framework. It organizes program candidates as tree states, retains branch-local debugging context, retrieves failure experience across branches, and distinguishes failed checks from unavailable evidence. On HumanEval and MBPP-Sanitized, visible-test ReMCTS improves over direct generation in 8 of 10 model-dataset pairs under held-out evaluation, whereas proxy-only search is less stable. Controlled tree-search, sampling, repair, and memory ablations characterize the source and limits of these gains. A 30-task HumanEval-X C++ pilot further demonstrates compatibility with compiler-backed execution, but does not constitute a broad multilingual evaluation.

LociArt: A Unified Paradigm for Free-Style Local Video Stylization

Yuxuan Chen, Feng Xie, Jiagao Hu, Fuhao Li, Zepeng Wang, Fei Wang, Daiguo Zhou

Video stylization typically transforms entire scenes, while local artistic editing requires precise region--style association, spatial control, and temporal consistency. We introduce LociArt, a unified paradigm for free-style local video stylization that explicitly specifies where to stylize and what style to apply while preserving non-target content. At its core, GRNStyle builds on Generative Refinement Networks (GRN) and introduces a polar style-aware mask that embeds style identities as equal-norm directions within selected regions. Complementary representation--geometry conditioning combines encoded mask features with raw-mask spatial support, integrating spatiotemporal context with geometric control. To provide paired supervision, we develop an automated pipeline combining global stylization, video object removal, matting, and compositing, and construct the LociArt-100K Dataset with 100K local stylization pairs. We further establish the LociArt Benchmark, comprising 80 source videos and 84 target masks covering 168 foreground/background stylization cases, with a Style Prototype Similarity (SPS) evaluation scheme for regional style quality and complementary measures of non-target preservation and temporal consistency. Experiments show that GRNStyle outperforms existing methods in regional style quality and spatial control while maintaining strong temporal consistency. Qualitative examples further illustrate joint stylization of multiple regions with the same or different learned styles, despite training only on single-region, single-style pairs. Together, these components provide a unified foundation for learning and evaluating controllable local video stylization. Project page: https://higherhu.github.io/lociart/.

CONCUR: Concordant Auxiliary Rewards for Multi-Task, Multi-Reward Reinforcement Learning

Jixuan Leng, Si Si, Fei Wang, Cho-Jui Hsieh, Jiong Zhang, Hsiang-Fu Yu, Inderjit S. Dhillon

When a Large Language Model (LLM) is trained with Reinforcement Learning (RL) on multiple tasks, a task's primary reward can gate auxiliary rewards such as a length reward: on a failing response, an auxiliary cannot exceed the primary. However, group-relative advantage estimators treat a gated auxiliary like any other component, so it can reverse the primary's order, and at the primary's ceiling only auxiliaries order responses. Keeping gated auxiliaries hurts some tasks, while dropping them hurts others. We propose CONCUR, an advantage estimator that replaces the standardized scores of each gated auxiliary with the closest scores that satisfy two conditions: responses with higher primary rewards cannot receive lower scores, and responses at the primary's ceiling receive equal scores. CONCUR-T applies both conditions throughout training, and CONCUR-A lifts the second for an auxiliary that agrees with the primary's order more often than it reverses it among passing responses. On three models from two families and across math, code, instruction following, and writing, both variants score higher on average than all baselines and than when all the gated auxiliaries are dropped.

OSWAM: An Effective World Action Model with One-Step Action Generation

Guowen Zhang, Liyi Chen, Xu Hu, Pengfei Wang, Jingfan Chen, Chenhang He, Lei Zhang

Direct-policy World Action Models (WAM) have demonstrated the benefits of decoupling action generation from explicit future visual prediction for efficient inference in autonomous driving and embodied control. However, they still require tens of denoising steps to achieve competitive action quality, incurring substantial latency and hindering real-time deployment. Simply reducing the number of denoising steps will collapse the nonlinear multi-step denoising trajectory into coarse updates, substantially degrading action quality. To reduce the denoising steps while enabling real-time action generation, we present an effective world action model with one-step action generation, namely OSWAM, for autonomous driving and embodied control. We argue that it is the absence of structured action priors in random noise initialization that forces direct-policy WAMs to recover coherent action sequences through iterative denoising. Hence, we construct imagination tokens to initialize the diffusion process, providing physical priors and action-conditioned representations. We further introduce privileged information distillation with future conditioning to enhance future-aware action generation. As a result, OSWAM can efficiently and effectively generate high quality actions in just one diffusion step. Our experiments demonstrate that OSWAM achieves comparable or even better results in both autonomous driving and embodied control than direct-policy WAM and Joint-WAM that require tens of steps. It obtains approximately $3\times$ speedup over direct-policy WAM baselines and supports real-time compiled inference with latency as low as 40ms on an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU. Beyond Distribution Matching: Self-Supervised Representation Forcing for Few-Step Video Generation

Junyi Chen, Haiyu Zhang, Zhoujie Fu, Tengfei Wang, Chunchao Guo

Few-step distillation is essential for deploying modern video diffusion models. Among existing approaches, Distribution Matching Distillation (DMD) has emerged as a highly promising paradigm by achieving strong output-space fidelity without adversarial training, while remaining flexible across various student architectures. We observe, however, that DMD fundamentally relies on an output-space objective, lacking explicit regularization on the model's internal representations. As the distillation step count aggressively shrinks, this output-only supervision becomes insufficient, causing the distilled student to degrade in both fine-grained spatial structures and coherent temporal dynamics. To address this limitation, we introduce Self Flow Forcing (SF$^2$), which incorporates a predictive representation loss into the DMD framework without altering its output objective. By providing the student and an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) teacher with heterogeneous noise levels, we establish an information asymmetry. This formulation forces the student to predict the teacher's internal representations from a more corrupted input, effectively integrating self-supervised representation alignment into distribution matching. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SF$^2$ effectively mitigates temporal flickering and consistently improves both spatial fidelity and motion quality. Furthermore, the proposed mechanism is architecture-agnostic - seamlessly supporting both bidirectional and causal models - and requires no external feature extractors, introducing minimal computational overhead.

Towards Generalized Image Manipulation Localization via Score-based Model

Yunfei Wang, Bo Du, Zhe Yang, Xin Liu, Zhiyu Lin, Tianxin Xu, Ji-Zhe Zhou

With the rapid evolution of synthetic media, Image Manipulation Localization (IML) has emerged as a critical component in multimedia forensics for ensuring the integrity of digital content. However, generalization remains a core challenge, as existing discriminative methods typically learn a fixed decision boundary that tends to overfit to specific training artifacts and fails to adapt to unseen manipulation types. To address this, we propose DiffIML, a novel framework that introduces score-based generative modeling to IML. Diverging from the direct estimation of hard boundaries, DiffIML approximates the score function, the gradient of the log-likelihood, to capture the intrinsic geometric topology of mask distributions. This paradigm leverages structural priors to iteratively recover coherent masks from noise, thereby circumventing the brittleness associated with discriminative models. Under this formulation, diffusion models serve as an effective numerical solver for the learned score function. To ensure practicality, we respectively resolve the efficiency and stability bottlenecks of standard diffusion by: (1) utilizing a Lightweight Mask-Specific VAE for fast latent-space process and a decoupled architecture with a lightweight denoising UNet, (2) edge supervision and error prior to mitigate error accumulation during sampling. Extensive experiments of two distinct protocols on eight non-generative and three generative benchmarks demonstrate that DiffIML consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, yielding remarkable generalization improvements on diverse unseen datasets. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/scu-zjz/DiffIML.

Satellite Intelligence: Distributed Training, Collaborative Inference, and LLM Adaptation in LEO Constellation

Zheng Lin, Zhanwei Wang, Yuxin Zhang, Yafei Wang, Ons Aouedi, Zihan Fang, Jinfeng Xu, Jing Yang 等 12 位作者

The proliferation of orbital sensing data and the real-time demands of emerging global services are pushing low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks from bent-pipe relays toward intelligent onboard processing. This shift confronts a fundamental tension, where modern artificial intelligence (AI) training paradigms require intensive computation, abundant memory, and stable connectivity, all of which are scarce under the dynamic topologies, intermittent links, and severe size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints of satellite networks. Addressing this tension demands rethinking AI workflows, from training and inference to the emerging deployment of large language models (LLMs), under a constraint-aware design philosophy. To the best of our knowledge, this paper provides the first survey that jointly covers all three, whereas prior surveys examine these aspects in isolation. We begin by identifying the deployment challenge of satellite intelligence (SI) and deriving design principles for SI. We then examine three advancing paradigms: i) distributed training, where federated learning (FL) and split learning (SL) enable satellite-ground co-training under resource limitations; ii) collaborative inference, which exploits single-satellite, multi-satellite, and satellite-ground architectures to meet real-time service demands; and iii) on-orbit LLM adaptation and serving, which tackles the frontier challenge of deploying LLMs under severe orbital constraints and resource-aware serving. Finally, we identify open challenges and future directions. By bridging the AI and satellite networks, this paper provides a research roadmap for the implementation of space-native AI technologies.

When Fusion Order Matters: Insights on Progressive Multimodal Representation Learning for Cross-modal Retrieval

Haoxiang Zhao, Bin Wang, Yaofei Wang, Xiao Lan, Yunfeng Diao, Xu Wang

Multimodal video retrieval combines visual, acoustic, and speech information, yet how their fusion order should depend on the data and the retrieval query remains unclear. We introduce Unified Progressive Representation Learning for Order Analysis, or UniPRO, to investigate this question through configurable fusion schedules with matched model components and training settings. Starting from text-to-video retrieval, we find that the tested one-by-one schedules outperform stacked fusion, while changing the order within one-by-one fusion also changes performance. To guide order selection, we examine two complementary considerations: learning difficulty under unequal modality availability and preservation of information relevant to the query. Complete-modality controls show that missing inputs alone cannot explain order sensitivity. At R@1, text and audio retrieval favor schedules that introduce the modality matching the query last. Controlled speech missingness during training and testing reverses the preferred order in both R@1 and SumR, with different crossover points. These findings motivate balancing the two considerations when selecting a fusion path. We then use them to predict a visual-last schedule for image queries, which achieves 97.9 R@1, the highest among the evaluated orders on MSR-VTT-9k. Main experiments on four text-to-video benchmarks establish the effectiveness of UniPRO, with component ablations assessing its supporting design. Together, the results identify fusion order as a task-dependent choice that should account jointly for modality availability and the retrieval query.

Kronecker-Structured Video Completion with Cross-Fitted Self-Supervised Residual Learning

Qi Qi, Yanfei Wang, Yanjun Cui, Jun-e Feng

Tube-wise video completion reconstructs temporal trajectories at spatial locations unobserved in every frame. We propose a two-stage framework combining regularized masked Kronecker product decomposition (KPD) with cross-fitted self-supervised residual learning. First, we estimate a compact structural backbone directly from observed entries using cyclic component-wise least-squares updates, spatial and temporal factor regularization, and regularizer-optimal scale balancing. The exact updates yield a nonincreasing objective. Second, we address the mismatch between in-sample fitting errors and the prediction errors encountered at missing tubes. We partition observed tubes into folds and construct residual targets using backbone models fitted without the corresponding target tubes. A lightweight 3-D convolutional neural network then predicts corrections from the backbone, visible residual context, observation mask, and local detail features. Exact data consistency preserves observed measurements. Experiments include ablations, sensitivity analysis, grayscale and RGB video completion, and structured missing patterns. Our method achieves the highest mean PSNR and SSIM at the higher tested sampling rates on the grayscale benchmark. On eight selected DAVIS RGB sequences, it achieves the highest mean missing-region PSNR and full-frame SSIM and the lowest mean missing-tube temporal-gradient MAE at every evaluated sampling rate.

Strong yet Controllable LLM Abstention without Learning to Abstain

Junwei Zhang, Yifei Wang, Wanli Yang, Hexiang Tan, Rui Tang, Xin Chen, Jingang Wang, Du Su 等 9 位作者

Large language models (LLMs) can reduce hallucination by abstaining from questions they would likely get wrong. Abstention can be implemented outside the model (selective answering) using a confidence threshold that controls the answer rate (coverage), or learned inside it (abstention training), which can perform better but fixes coverage once trained. To compare the two, we match their coverage and decompose risk (error rate) into answering ability and distinguishing ability, i.e., how well the model answers and how accurately it abstains, respectively. The decomposition shows that abstention training performs better mainly by answering better: with strong confidence estimators, the two have nearly equal distinguishing ability. This motivates Train for Accuracy, then Post-hoc Select (TAPS), a modular approach that keeps coverage controllable, needs only standard post-training and an off-the-shelf confidence estimator, and benefits from advances in either component. Across three LLMs and three factual QA benchmarks, TAPS with a probing-based confidence estimator attains 1.5--9.4 percentage points lower mean risk than three representative abstention training methods at matched coverage. Within TAPS, accuracy training often weakens the model's own confidence signals, yet refitting the estimator largely preserves distinguishing ability. Together, these results establish TAPS as a strong yet controllable baseline and raise the bar for future abstention training: sacrificing control over coverage should yield gains beyond what can be achieved by optimizing answering and abstaining separately.

InfoDiffusion: Representation Learning Using Information Maximizing Diffusion Models

Yingheng Wang, Yair Schiff, Aaron Gokaslan, Weishen Pan, Fei Wang, Christopher De Sa, Volodymyr Kuleshov

While diffusion models excel at generating high-quality samples, their latent variables typically lack semantic meaning and are not suitable for representation learning. Here, we propose InfoDiffusion, an algorithm that augments diffusion models with low-dimensional latent variables that capture high-level factors of variation in the data. InfoDiffusion relies on a learning objective regularized with the mutual information between observed and hidden variables, which is designed to improve latent space quality and to prevent the latents from being ignored by expressive diffusion-based decoders. Empirically, we find that InfoDiffusion learns disentangled and human-interpretable latent representations that are competitive with state-of-the-art generative and contrastive methods, while retaining the high sample quality of diffusion models. Our method enables manipulating the attributes of generated images and has the potential to assist tasks that require exploring a learned latent space to generate quality samples, e.g., generative design.

QUEST: Training Frontier Deep Research Agents with Fully Synthetic Tasks

Jian Xie, Tianhe Lin, Zilu Wang, Yuting Ning, Yuekun Yao, Tianci Xue, Zhehao Zhang, Zhongyang Li 等 19 位作者

Deep research agents extend the role of search engines from retrieving keyword-matched pages to synthesizing knowledge, fundamentally changing how humans interact with information. However, frontier systems remain proprietary, while existing open agents often generalize poorly across different task types, leaving unclear how to train a broadly capable deep research agent. We release QUEST, a family of open models (ranging from 2B to 35B) that serve as general-purpose deep research agents designed to handle a wide range of long-horizon search tasks, with strong capabilities in fact seeking, citation grounding, and report synthesis. To build QUEST, we propose an effective training recipe combining mid-training, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning. Central to this recipe is a curated data synthesis pipeline based on unified rubric trees, which applies to different task types and enables synthesizing training data with verifiable rewards without human annotation. In addition, QUEST incorporates a built-in context management mechanism that enables effective long-horizon reasoning and knowledge synthesis. Using only 8K synthesized tasks, QUEST approaches or even surpasses frontier closed-source agents across eight deep research benchmarks spanning diverse task types, and achieves the best overall performance among recent open-weight agents. We released everything: models, data, and training scripts.

Mixture-of-Minds: Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Table Understanding

Yuhang Zhou Meta, Mingrui Zhang, Ke Li, Mingyi Wang Facebook, Qiao Liu City University of New York, Qifei Wang, Jiayi Liu Meta Platforms Inc., Fei Liu Meta 等 15 位作者

Understanding and reasoning over tables is a critical capability for many real-world applications. Large language models (LLMs) have shown promise on this task, but current approaches remain limited. Fine-tuning based methods strengthen language reasoning; yet they are prone to arithmetic errors and hallucination. In contrast, tool-based methods enable precise table manipulation but rely on rigid schemas and lack semantic understanding. These complementary drawbacks highlight the need for approaches that integrate robust reasoning with reliable table processing. In this work, we propose MIXTURE-OF-MINDS, a multi-agent framework that decomposes table reasoning into three specialized roles: planning, coding, and answering. This design enables each agent to focus on a specific aspect of the task while leveraging code execution for precise table manipulation. Building on this workflow, we introduce a self-improvement training framework that employs Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) rollouts to generate pseudo-gold trajectories and optimize agents with reinforcement learning (RL). Extensive experiments show that MIXTURE-OF-MINDS delivers substantial gains, reaching 62.13% on TableBench and surpassing GPT-o3-mini. These results demonstrate the promise of combining structured multi-agent workflows with RL to advance table understanding.

RubricBench: Aligning Model-Generated Rubrics with Human Standards

Junyi Zhou City University of Hong Kong, Qiyuan Zhang City University of Hong Kong, Yufei Wang Huawei Technologies Ltd., Fuyuan Lyu Vatic Labs, Yidong Ming, Can Xu Tencent Hunyuan, Qingfeng Sun, Kai Zheng Microsoft 等 11 位作者

As Large Language Model (LLM) alignment evolves from simple completions to complex, highly sophisticated generation, Reward Models are increasingly shifting toward rubric-guided evaluation to mitigate surface-level biases. However, the community lacks a unified benchmark to assess this evaluation paradigm, as existing benchmarks lack both the discriminative complexity and the ground-truth rubric annotations required for rigorous analysis. To bridge this gap, we introduce RubricBench, a curated benchmark with 1,147 pairwise comparisons specifically designed to assess the reliability of rubric-based evaluation. Our construction employs a multi-dimensional filtration pipeline to target hard samples featuring nuanced input complexity and misleading surface bias, augmenting each with expert-annotated, atomic rubrics derived strictly from instructions. Comprehensive experiments reveal a substantial capability gap between human-annotated and model-generated rubrics, indicating that even state-of-the-art models struggle to autonomously specify valid evaluation criteria, lagging considerably behind human-guided performance.

Resonating with RoPE: Spectral Quantization for High-Fidelity Key Cache Compression

Xuefei Wang Shandong University, Haoyu Tang Shandong University, Tianyuan Liang Shandong University, Zhibin Wang, Yupeng Hu, Weili Guan

The linear growth of KV cache bottlenecks long-context LLMs, yet RoPE-induced oscillations complicate Key cache quantization. To address this issue, we propose SpectrumQuant, a frequency-domain framework that utilizes the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to convert these oscillations into sparse spectral representations. Specifically, our pipeline integrates dominant frequency extraction, hybrid bit-width allocation, and high-frequency pre-emphasis to maximize fidelity while minimizing memory footprint. To eliminate computational overhead, we develop fused Triton kernels featuring deferred inverse transformation and on-chip sparse accumulation. Extensive experiments on several benchmarks confirm SpectrumQuant achieves efficient compression with performance and latency comparable to FP16 baselines.

R^3: End-to-End Reasoning-based Planning for Multi-step Retrosynthesis via Reinforcement Learning

YiFei Wang, Qizhi Pei, Jiangtao Feng, Yuntian Shi, Yi Duan, Lihao Wang, Lei Bai Shanghai AI Laboratory, Lijun Wu Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory 等 10 位作者

Multi-step retrosynthetic planning is a fundamental challenge in organic chemistry, traditionally modeled as a combinatorial search problem guided by single-step prediction models. However, this search-centric paradigm often disconnects from the explicit chemical reasoning processes employed by human experts. In this paper, we propose R^3 (Reinforced Reasoning Retrosynthesis), a novel framework that reformulates this task as end-to-end generative reasoning. Instead of traversing a search tree, R^3 simulates the problem-solving logic of chemists to directly generate complete synthetic pathways. To achieve this, we initialize the model with domain knowledge and employ end-to-end Reinforcement Learning (RL) to optimize the entire planning policy. Experimental results on Retrobench show that R^3 achieves a state-of-the-art Top-1 accuracy of 43.7%, demonstrating that generative reasoning offers a superior alternative to traditional search algorithms in solving complex retrosynthetic problems.

Rethinking Depression Prediction from a Fine-Grained Subscore Modeling Perspective via Multi-Task Learning

Zhenguang Wang, Bo Li, Wenhui Tan, Peng Cao Northeastern University, Yang Wang, Jia Duan Nanjing Medical University, Fei Wang, Osmar Zaiane University of Alberta

Standard depression assessment relies on instruments such as the clinician-rated Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and the patient-reported Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-8), but manual scoring is time-consuming and subject to inter-rater variability. Prior automated approaches typically regress a single total score or coarse severity category, lacking the fine-grained subscore-level supervision needed for precise clinical diagnosis. To address this, we propose MTSP (Multi-Task Subscore Prediction), a fine-grained model for subscore prediction via multi-task learning. MTSP achieves state-of-the-art performance on the public E-DAIC dataset (MAE 3.48, RMSE 4.57) and generalizes well to the public PDCH and a large-scale private clinical dataset (CIDH), outperforming total-score regression baselines and Qwen3-14B direct scoring. We further show that multi-task learning is essential, subscore-level supervision improves assessment by better capturing symptom-cluster structure, and prior constraints plus task-level self-paced learning enhance robustness to subscore difficulty and annotation noise.

Logical Consistency as a Bridge: Improving LLM Hallucination Detection via Label Constraint Modeling between Responses and Self-Judgments

Hao Mi Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qiang Sheng Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shaofei Wang, Beizhe Hu Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yifan Sun, Zhengjia Wang, Hengqi Zeng, Yang Li 等 10 位作者

Large Language Models (LLMs) are prone to factual hallucinations, risking their reliability in real-world applications. Existing hallucination detectors mainly extract micro-level intrinsic patterns for uncertainty quantification or elicit macro-level self-judgments through verbalized prompts. However, these methods address only a single facet of the hallucination, focusing either on implicit neural uncertainty or explicit symbolic reasoning, thereby treating these inherently coupled behaviors in isolation and failing to exploit their interdependence for a holistic view. In this paper, we propose LaaB (Logical Consistency-as-a-Bridge), a framework that bridges neural features and symbolic judgments for hallucination detection. LaaB introduces a “meta-judgment” process to map symbolic labels back into the feature space. By leveraging the inherent logical bridge where response and meta-judgment labels are either the same or opposite based on the self-judgment’s semantics, LaaB aligns and integrates dual-view signals via mutual learning and enhances the hallucination detection. Extensive experiments on 4 public datasets, across 4 LLMs, against 8 baselines demonstrate the superiority of LaaB.

Shanks: Simultaneous Hearing and Thinking for Spoken Language Models

Cheng-Han Chiang, Xiaofei Wang Microsoft, Linjie Li University of Washington and Microsoft, Chung-Ching Lin, Kevin Lin Microsoft, Shujie Liu, Zhendong Wang Microsoft, Zhengyuan Yang Microsoft 等 10 位作者

Current large language models (LLMs) and spoken language models (SLMs) begin thinking and taking actions only after the user has finished their turn. This prevents the model from interacting with the user during the user’s turn and can lead to high response latency when the model is thinking. To address this issue, we draw inspiration from the “think while listening” behavior of humans. In this paper, we propose SHANKS, a general inference framework that enables SLMs to generate unspoken chain-of-thought reasoning while listening to user input. SHANKS streams input speech in fixed-duration chunks and, as soon as a chunk is received, generates unspoken reasoning based on all previous speech and reasoning, while the user continues speaking. SHANKS uses unspoken reasoning to determine whether to interrupt the user and make tool calls to complete the task. We demonstrate that SHANKS enhances real-time user–SLM interaction in two scenarios: (1) SHANKS can listen to the user’s speech and interrupt when the user makes a mistake. (2) In a tool-augmented dialogue scenario, SHANKS can complete 56.9% of the tool calls before the user ends their turn. Overall, SHANKS is a step toward models that keep thinking throughout the conversation, not only after a turn ends. Demos can be found on the project page: https://d223302.github.io/SHANKS/.

Communication-Efficient Desire Alignment for Proactive Embodied Human–Agent Interaction

Yuanfei Wang Peking University, Xinju Huang, Fangwei Zhong, Yaodong Yang Peking University, Yizhou Wang Peking University, Yuanpei Chen Peking University, Hao Dong Peking University

Effective real-world human–agent interactions, such as household robotic services, are often long-term and repeated. Beyond executing tasks, agents are expected to quickly become familiar with individual users. In everyday use, people do not want to repeatedly specify precise instructions. Instead, they prefer agents that adapt to their habits and preferences over interaction while minimizing communication effort. This poses a key challenge: enabling agents to rapidly align with user needs and provide proactive assistance within limited communication. To study this problem in a realistic embodied setting, we first introduce HA-Desire, a home assistance simulation environment. HA-Desire features an LLM-driven proxy user with value-driven preferences and natural language behavior, enabling systematic evaluation of how agents adapt to users across interactions and satisfy their desires. We further propose FAMER, a framework that integrates goal-relevant memory, desire-centered mental reasoning, and efficient communication to infer user preferences from interaction while reducing unnecessary dialogue. Experiments across embodied household tasks and different LLMs show that FAMER improves both task success and interaction efficiency compared to existing baselines, highlighting the importance of communication-efficient desire alignment for proactive embodied agents that support users without requiring frequent instructions.

Model-Based Imaginative Planning for Embodied Agents

Reasoning and planning critically rely on a predictive dynamics model. In symbolic domains such as mathematics and code, large language models (LLMs) internalize transition rules during pretraining, allowing reinforcement learning or test-time scaling to effectively elicit and generalize their reasoning ability. Embodied decision making is fundamentally different: agents must reason from sparse visual evidence under partial observability, while coping with environment-specific dynamics and affordances not captured by language priors. Here we propose IMPLEMENT, a model-based reasoning framework that enables frozen LLMs to perform imaginative planning. A lightweight world model converts raw pixels into object-centric symbolic states amenable to language-based reasoning, and predicts their evolution under hypothetical actions. To address partial observability, we perform Monte Carlo state prediction via temperature sampling, enabling decision evaluation over multiple plausible futures. To support adaptation to unseen environments, we integrate Meta In-Context Learning, conditioning the world model on interaction history to continuously refine its predictions. At inference time, the LLM and world model form a tight co-reasoning loop: the LLM proposes candidate actions, the world model simulates future trajectories, and the LLM refines its decisions, effectively inducing an online policy iteration scheme. Extensive experiments in ALFWorld demonstrate consistent advantages over finetuning-based and strong test-time scaling approaches, validating IMPLEMENT as an effective framework for grounding language agents in visual embodied environments.

Scaling Large Language Model-based Multi-Agent Collaboration

Chen Qian, Zihao Xie, YiFei Wang, Wei Liu, Kunlun Zhu, Hanchen Xia, Yufan Dang, Zhuoyun Du 等 12 位作者

Recent breakthroughs in large language model-driven autonomous agents have revealed that multi-agent collaboration often surpasses each individual through collective reasoning. Inspired by the neural scaling law--increasing neurons enhances performance, this study explores whether the continuous addition of collaborative agents can yield similar benefits. Technically, we utilize directed acyclic graphs to organize agents into a multi-agent collaboration network (MacNet), upon which their interactive reasoning is topologically orchestrated for autonomous task solving. Extensive evaluations reveal that it effectively supports collaboration among over a thousand agents, with irregular topologies outperforming regular ones. We also identify a collaborative scaling law--the overall performance follows a logistic growth pattern as agents scale, with collaborative emergence occurring earlier than traditional neural emergence. We speculate this may be because scaling agents catalyzes their multidimensional considerations during interactive reflection and refinement, thereby producing more comprehensive artifacts. The code is available at https://github.com/OpenBMB/ChatDev/tree/macnet.
