AI 速览:LucidLyra 从视频潜变量出发,以前馈方式生成可查询语义与实例的三维高斯场景,无需逐场景优化。

We present LucidLyra, a framework that makes generatively reconstructed 3D scenes directly queryable for semantics and instances in a feed-forward manner from video latents. While generative 3D reconstruction can synthesize virtual environments from a single image, downstream applications in robotics and physical AI require not only visual realism but also access to scene semantics and object identities. Existing 3D understanding approaches, however, require captured multi-view scenes, have limited generalization capabilities, or rely on expensive per-scene processing and optimization. To bridge this gap, our method distills complementary knowledge from a camera-controlled video diffusion model and frozen 2D vision foundation models into a unified model to jointly infer 3D Gaussians encoding geometry, appearance, open-vocabulary semantics, and class-agnostic instance cues. The resulting scenes support novel-view rendering, open-vocabulary segmentation, and object grouping without per-scene optimization, while training requires neither manual 3D annotations nor captured multi-view data. Our method outperforms baselines combining state-of-the-art 3DGS segmentation approaches with generative 3D scene reconstruction on curated synthetic and real-image-conditioned benchmarks, while preserving reconstruction quality. Furthermore, our latent formulation naturally extends to monocular video, reconstructing structured dynamic 3D scenes across time. By turning renderable but unstructured outputs into queryable 3D worlds, LucidLyra enables downstream applications including 3D scene editing, 3D asset mining, and robotic simulation.

Large language models support personalized tutoring, content generation, and adaptive learning paths. However, capability development requires these resources and interactions to form a coherent learning process that evolves with the learner. A central challenge is to align goals, activities, and assessment while using learning evidence to decide what should follow. We introduce Human-Participatory Multi-Agent Organization and instantiate it in Agentic University (AU). In AU, learners participate as organization members and work with specialized agents to maintain a revisable Capability Program. The program connects personal goals, learning activities across modalities, and layered assessment, while learner feedback and performance guide subsequent support. Our evaluation shows advantages in program organization, assessment design, and revision quality. Users achieved larger mean assessment gains (12.19 versus 5.61 points on a 50-point scale) and reported stronger cognitive support. This work contributes an organizational approach to adaptive learning that makes learner participation a continuing basis for multi-agent coordination. PFA: Attention Can Be Progressively Focused in Long-Sequence Generative Recommendation

Pengjie Zhou, Weiqin Yang, Haibo Xing, Hao Deng, Jinxin Hu

Long user behavioral sequences improve the performance of generative recommendation (GR), but computing full attention over long histories during autoregressive beam search decoding incurs substantial online inference latency. To accelerate long-sequence decoding, existing approaches typically rely on static history compression or dynamic top-k sparse attention; however, the former risks losing critical semantics, whereas the latter incurs significant overhead from repeated token selection and non-contiguous memory access. In this work, we thoroughly analyze attention patterns during GR decoding and reveal two key properties: (i) progressive attention focusing, where attention progressively focuses on a small subset of critical historical tokens; and (ii) cross-step ranking consistency, where their importance rankings remain relatively stable across subsequent decoding steps. Motivated by these observations, we propose Progressively Focused Attention (PFA), an efficient sparse decoding framework for long-sequence GR. PFA retains full attention at the initial decoding step to explore global historical preferences. It then establishes a shared importance ranking through cross-beam weighted aggregation and reorders the key-value cache of the selected tokens into a contiguous memory layout. Subsequent decoding steps reuse this ranking and geometrically reduce the token budget, preserving critical semantics while lowering computational and memory access overhead. Extensive experiments on two public benchmarks and a large-scale industrial dataset demonstrate that PFA outperforms state-of-the-art baselines. A 7-day online A/B test on a large-scale e-commerce advertising platform further confirms that PFA delivers substantial business gains while maintaining low inference latency. Our code is publicly available at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/PFA-review-088D.

FTP-1: A Generalist Foundation Tactile Policy Across Tactile Sensors for Contact-Rich Manipulation

Chengbo Yuan, Zicheng Zhang, Mingjie Zhou, Wendi Chen, Yi Wang, Zhuoyang Liu, Dantong Niu, Shuo Wang 等 17 位作者

Despite the success of vision-based generalist robotic policies, existing tactile-based policies remain tied to fixed embodiments and sensor setups. This is because tactile signals are highly heterogeneous across hardware, making cross-sensor generalization difficult. We present FTP-1,the first generalist foundation tactile policy pretrained to acquire transferable tactile manipulation abilities across diverse sensors and embodiments. FTP-1 supports varied tactile inputs, including image-, array-, and state-based signals, by using heterogeneous encoders to project them into unified morphology-aware latent tokens that are jointly modeled by a shared tactile Transformer expert. Pretrained on around 3,000 hours of tactile manipulation data aggregated from 26 data sources, spanning human and robot demonstrations across 21 sensors, FTP-1 learns tactile skills that transfer beyond the sensors seen during pretraining. Across downstream finetuning experiments spanning 5 hardware configurations, FTP-1 improves contact-rich manipulation on seen sensor setups by +17.2% and, surprisingly, transfers to two previously unseen tactile-sensor setups, achieving a +31% gain in success rate. FTP-1 establishes the first unified foundation baseline for tactile manipulation, providing future tactile policies with a shared model-level starting point. PrivacyEvalClaw: A Tool-Augmented Deliberative Agent for Auditing Privacy Leakage in LLM Jailbreak Responses

Krishna Kanth Nakka, Yujun Wang, Shijie Zhou, Tu Nguyen, Gabriele Gelardi, Xuebing Zhou

Reliable evaluation is a critical bottleneck in privacy red-teaming of large language models (LLMs): determining whether a jailbreak response actually reveals personal information can be difficult when disclosures are indirect, contextual, partial, or obfuscated. Existing evaluation approaches increasingly rely on guard models and LLM-as-Judges, yet these evaluators may interpret the same response differently. To better characterize this evaluation setting, we conduct a systematic study of privacy evaluators and find substantial disagreement, particularly in ambiguous cases that require additional evidence or targeted analysis to resolve. Motivated by these findings, we introduce \textsc{PrivacyEvalClaw}, a training-free deliberative agent for evaluating privacy leakage in LLM jailbreak responses. Rather than relying on isolated single-pass judgments, PrivacyEvalClaw treats evaluators and analysis modules as tools, adaptively gathers evidence, investigates uncertain disclosures, and reconciles conflicting signals before producing a final judgment. Our primary experiments use pairwise LLM-as-Judge evaluation of complete trajectories, showing that PrivacyEvalClaw achieves favorable win rates against competing baselines across outcome, process, and overall quality, while producing explicit reasoning traces that make the evaluation process more transparent and auditable.

Benchmark Radar: A Living Database and Search Engine for AI Benchmarks and Evaluation

Koutian Wu, Wenjun Zhang, Junjie Zhou, Pengqian Han, Qiming Bao, Ergan Shang, Jiayu Wang, Junkai Wang 等 16 位作者

Benchmark researchers and developers of large language models (LLMs) and other AI systems need to find relevant evaluations, locate their benchmark datasets and code, and understand the settings behind reported scores. We present Benchmark Radar, a living database and search engine for retrieval and discovery of AI benchmarks, covering LLM evaluation, agentic and tool-use benchmarks, coding, reasoning, safety, and domain-specific evaluations. The system combines daily discovery of benchmark papers, repositories, datasets, and releases with a searchable benchmark catalog, mentions in model cards and technical reports, and score histories. It retains source identities and citations so readers can inspect candidate benchmarks and their evaluation evidence. Daily discovery draws on 37 sources: 13 direct connectors and 24 first-party research and engineering feeds. The catalog contains 1,283 source records drawn from 4 benchmark catalogs and 12,916 numeric observations on 790 records. We describe collection and retrieval, audit the full catalog, and examine benchmark saturation, adoption trends, and the limits of score comparisons. A worked example walks through a complete prior-art search, showing how to query the catalog and inspect benchmark evidence when designing a new evaluation. We release the web dashboard with a benchmark leaderboard, a Pareto frontier view of score against measured use, saturation and trend views, daily feeds, downloadable evidence, a command-line interface (CLI) for offline queries, and reproducible analysis.

Remembering Is Not Enough: Refining Memories and Learning When to Use Them in Multi-Agent Systems

Yipeng Hao, Yuxuan Cai, Wenkai Ji, Jie Zhou, Liyang Yu, Qin Chen, Zhiguo Yan, Shulei Zheng 等 9 位作者

Memory helps LLM-based multi-agent systems reuse experience, but stored advice can be flawed or applied in the wrong situation. Team-level success or failure alone cannot reliably show whether a memory needs correction or should not have been used. We propose DiscernMem, a training-free framework that improves both memory quality and memory use. To improve quality, Defect-Aware Memory Refinement (DMR) compares team executions with a single memory and with no memory, diagnoses rule defects, and tests repairs on current and earlier tasks to guard against losing previously useful behavior. To guide appropriate use, Boundary-Learning Meta-Memory (BLM) records each memory's past uses and effects, learning when its owner role should apply or avoid it based on task context and incoming messages. Together, these components help teams correct flawed experience while retaining useful rules that were applied incorrectly. Experiments with Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507 on four benchmarks show that DiscernMem achieves the highest average score on AutoGen, CAMEL, and MacNet, exceeding the strongest reported baselines by 0.51-4.32 points. It leads on code generation and symbolic planning across all three systems, including a PDDL score of 37.71 versus 28.48 on CAMEL.

Benchmarking LLM Agents for Behaviorally Adequate Test Generation from Software Requirements

Binhang Qi, Yiming Liu, Yun Lin, Yangjie Zhou, Hailong Sun, Jin Song Dong

As large language model agents increasingly compile natural-language requirements into repository-level code, requirement-to-test generation grows in importance to provide validation constraints (or harness) to guide code generation. Yet it remains unclear whether current agents can generate tests that validate the required behavior when the implementation of that behavior is withheld. Existing test-generation benchmarks mostly focus on white-box testing, whereas the requirement--test-related study usually requires evaluation on semantic alignment between the given documents and the generated tests. We introduce Req2Test-Bench, a benchmark containing 5,086 execution-validated instances recovered from developer-authored behavior-driven development (BDD) artifacts in 8 open-source projects, spanning 5 programming languages and 4 BDD frameworks. Each instance pairs a natural-language requirement in Gherkin with its developer-written Test Implementation. Given the requirement, target interfaces of the required behavior, an agent must generate a complete, potentially multi-file Test Implementation. Evaluation of 8 agent--model--reasoning configurations reveals a substantial gap between execution success and behavioral adequacy, which is measured strictly as kill-completeness: a kill-complete test kills every mutant that the ground-truth test kills. The best-performing configuration, Codex with DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, produces passing tests for 82.8% of instances, yet only 33.8% are behaviorally adequate. We find that (1) scaling up agents yields sharply diminishing returns in behavioral adequacy relative to generation cost; (2) under-specified requirements cause the information gap, including ambiguous setup and implicit expected outcomes; and (3) requirement-grounded harnesses that steer agent non-determinism offer a promising direction for improvement.

SemaPLC: A Project-Grounded, Verification-Gated Agent Harness for PLC Code Generation

Yanlun Tu, Huacan Wang, Jin Xie, Ziyue Zhou, Jie Zhou, Ningyan Zhu, Ge Chen, Wangyi Chen 等 14 位作者

In industrial practice, AI-generated programmable logic controller (PLC) code must integrate with existing projects and implement the required behavior across scan cycles. Compilation alone does not establish runtime behavior, and subsequent edits can invalidate earlier verification results. We present SemaPLC, a project-grounded, verification-gated agent harness for PLC code generation. The harness combines project context and reusable PLC skills with specification review, compilation, and live-runtime validation. Its completion gate requires recorded checks to meet acceptance criteria for the current implementation. Edits invalidate previous verdicts, and failed checks guide bounded repair. We evaluate SemaPLC on 117 independent-POU tasks and 65 project-context tasks across seven language-model backbones. SemaPLC outperforms the evaluated baselines on both metrics for every backbone. Its mean verified-pass rate and dynamic score reach 72.6% and 52.2, exceeding the strongest baseline means by 8.7% points and 20.8 points, respectively. Verification-layer and failure analyses reveal how build recovery and output observability affect end-to-end results and identify behavioral errors that remain after compilation. We apply the harness in KUKA's iiQworks product environment for PLC development and discuss engineering lessons for its industrial integration and deployment. The industrial use indicates the agent assistance substantially improves PLC development efficiency by 45%.

PatentAgentBench: Benchmarking LLM Agents with Professional Patent Task Suites

Yijie Hu, Wei Li, Junjie Zhou, Zhiqi Jiang, Yi Jin, Licong Xu, Xinkai Sun, Kai Duan 等 9 位作者

Patent practice lies at the intersection of technical, legal, and linguistic work, making it challenging yet crucial to technological innovation. Recently, rapid advances in large language models (LLMs) and agentic systems have demonstrated the potential to complete realistic business workflows and even patent works. This raises a question: can current AI systems perform patent work reliably? Existing benchmarks cover a limited range of patent tasks and simplify evidence acquisition by providing reference materials or candidate documents. In this paper, we introduce PatentAgentBench, a benchmark comprising 510 instances across eight task suites: novelty search, freedom-to-operate (FTO) search, design FTO, invalidity search, claim charting, patent drafting, office-action response, and patent translation. Curated from real patent records and professional materials, the benchmark combines task-specific metrics with expert-reviewed annotations and rubrics. Retrieval tasks such novelty search, FTO, etc., require agents to search and compare patent collections without a supplied candidate pool. The drafting and OAR tasks assess the quality of agents' work given technical disclosure and office action notice. We evaluate seven LLMs across four agent harnesses on PatentAgentBench, finding that current systems still struggle to identify novelty, assess risk, and understand practitioner intent throughout patent workflows.

UltraEval-Audio: A Unified Framework for Comprehensive Evaluation of Audio Foundation Models

Qundong Shi ModelBest, Jie Zhou, Biyuan Lin, Junbo Cui ModelBest, Guoyang Zeng ModelBest, Yixuan Zhou Tsinghua University, Ziyang Wang, Xin Liu 等 11 位作者

The development of audio foundation models has accelerated rapidly since the emergence of GPT-4o. However, the lack of comprehensive evaluation has become a critical bottleneck for further progress in the field, particularly in audio generation. Current audio evaluation faces three major challenges: (1) audio evaluation lacks a unified framework, with datasets and code scattered across various sources;(2) audio codec, as a key component of audio foundation models, lacks a widely accepted and holistic evaluation methodology; (3) existing speech benchmarks are heavily reliant on English, making it challenging to objectively assess models’ performance on Chinese. We introduce UltraEval-Audio, a unified framework addressing these challenges through a modular architecture supporting 10 languages, 14 task categories, 24 models, and 36 benchmarks with one-command evaluation and real-time leaderboards. For audio codec, we propose a three-dimensional evaluation scheme covering semantic accuracy, timbre fidelity, and acoustic quality. For Chinese evaluation, we introduce two new benchmarks: SpeechCMMLU and SpeechHSK. Our code, benchmarks, and leaderboards are available at https://github.com/OpenBMB/UltraEval-Audio.

A Survey of Inductive Reasoning for Large Language Models

Kedi Chen, Dezhao Ruan East China Normal University, Yuhao Dan, Yaoting Wang Fudan University, Siyu Yan, Xuecheng Wu, Yinqi Zhang Xiaohongshu, Qin Chen East China Normal University 等 15 位作者

Reasoning is an important task for large language models (LLMs). Among all the reasoning paradigms, inductive reasoning is one of the basic types, which is characterized by its particular-to-general thinking process and the non-uniqueness of its answers. The inductive mode is crucial for knowledge generalization and aligns better with human cognition, so it is a fundamental mode of learning, hence attracting increasing interest. Despite the importance of inductive reasoning, there is no systematic summary of it. Therefore, this paper presents the first comprehensive survey of inductive reasoning for LLMs. First, methods for improving inductive reasoning are categorized into three main areas: post-training enhancement, test-time exploration, and data augmentation. Then, current benchmarks of inductive reasoning are summarized, and a unified sandbox-based evaluation approach with the observation coverage metric is derived. Finally, we offer some analyses regarding the source of inductive ability and how simple model architectures and data help with inductive tasks, providing a solid foundation for future research.

Figure It Out: Improve the Frontier of Reasoning with Executable Visual States

Meiqi Chen, Fandong Meng WeChat AI, Tencent Inc., Jie Zhou

Complex reasoning problems often involve implicit spatial and geometric relationships that are not explicitly encoded in text. While recent reasoning models perform well across many domains, purely text-based reasoning struggles to capture structural constraints in complex settings. In this paper, we introduce FIGR, which integrates executable visual construction into multi-turn reasoning via end-to-end reinforcement learning. Rather than relying solely on textual chains of thought, FIGR externalizes intermediate hypotheses by generating executable code that constructs diagrams within the reasoning loop. An adaptive reward mechanism selectively regulates when visual construction is invoked, enabling more consistent reasoning over latent global properties that are difficult to infer from text alone. Experiments on seven challenging mathematical benchmarks demonstrate that FIGR outperforms strong text-only chain-of-thought baselines, improving the base model by 13.12% on AIME 2025 and 11.00% on BeyondAIME. These results highlight the effectiveness of precise, controllable figure construction of FIGR in enhancing complex reasoning ability.

Self-Guided Alignment: Adaptive Preference Sensing for Multi-Objective Generation

Ning Wang Jiangnan University, Zhanyang Liu, Taotao Zhou, Xinrui Zhang, Zongru Shao Silicon Austria Labs, Haojie Zhou Jiangnan University

Aligning Large Language Models (LLMs) with diverse and potentially conflicting human values necessitates navigating complex multi-objective landscapes. However, existing prompt-conditioned approaches face a critical training-inference discrepancy: they rely on ground-truth scores during training while requiring manual user-specification at inference. We introduce prediction of implicit preferences to bridge this gap while reducing user burden. To this end, we propose Self-Guided Alignment (SGA), a framework that transforms passive reward dependency into an intrinsic adaptive sensing capability. It employs a dual-head architecture to unify preference internalization with conditional generation, enabling the model to learn a latent mapping between raw prompts and preference profiles. Through adaptive preference sensing, the model autonomously predicts the latent preference score to self-guide the generation, thereby eliminating the need for manual specification at inference. Extensive experiments across diverse model scales demonstrate that SGA often outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, achieving superior multi-objective trade-offs and improved preference alignment. Code is available at https://github.com/python-yyds/SGA.

MT^{3}: A Synergistic Multi-Task RL Framework for Specializing MLLMs in Text Image Machine Translation

Zhaopeng Feng Zhejiang University, Yupu Liang University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shaosheng Cao, Jiayuan Su Tencent Wechat, Jiahan Ren, Zhijie Zhou, Wenxuan Huang, Jian Wu Zhejiang University 等 9 位作者

Text Image Machine Translation (TIMT)—the task of translating textual content embedded in images—is critical for applications in accessibility, cross-lingual information access, and real-world document understanding. However, TIMT remains a complex challenge due to the need for accurate optical character recognition (OCR), robust visual-text reasoning, and high-quality translation, often requiring cascading multi-stage pipelines. Recent advances in large-scale Reinforcement Learning (RL) have improved reasoning in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal LLMs (MLLMs), but their application to end-to-end TIMT is still underexplored. To bridge this gap, we introduce MT^{3}, a novel Multi-Task RL framework to specialize MLLMs into end-to-end expert TIMT models. MT^{3} adopts a synergistic multi-task optimization paradigm targeting three key sub-skills: text recognition, context-aware reasoning, and translation. It is trained using a novel multi-mixed reward mechanism that provides fine-grained feedback, fostering a controllable and transparent optimization process. Furthermore, to facilitate the evaluation of TIMT in authentic cross-cultural and real-world social media contexts, we introduced XHSPost, the first social media TIMT benchmark. Our MT^{3}-7B-Zero achieves state-of-the-art results on the latest in-domain MIT-10M benchmark, outperforming strong baselines such as Qwen2.5-VL-72B and InternVL2.5-78B by notable margins across multiple metrics. Additionally, the model shows strong generalization to out-of-distribution language pairs and datasets. In-depth analyses reveal how multi-task synergy, reinforcement learning initialization, curriculum design, and reward formulation contribute to advancing MLLM-driven TIMT.

CuBridge: An LLM-Based Framework for Understanding and Reconstructing High-Performance Attention Kernels

Xing Ma, Yangjie Zhou National University of Singapore, Wu Sun, Zihan Liu, Jingwen Leng Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yun Lin Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shixuan Sun Shanghai Jiaotong University, Minyi Guo Shanghai Jiao Tong University 等 9 位作者

Efficient CUDA implementations of attention mechanisms are critical to modern deep learning systems, yet supporting diverse and evolving attention variants remains challenging. Existing frameworks and compilers trade performance for flexibility, while expert-written kernels achieve high efficiency but are difficult to adapt. Recent work explores large language models (LLMs) for GPU kernel generation, but prior studies report unstable correctness and significant performance gaps for complex operators such as attention. We present CuBridge, an LLM-based framework that adapts expert-written attention kernels through a structured lift–transfer–lower workflow. CuBridge starts from expert-written CUDA attention kernels and lifts them into an executable intermediate representation that makes execution orchestration explicit while abstracting low-level CUDA syntax. Given a user-provided PyTorch specification, CuBridge generates and verifies a target IR program, then reconstructs optimized CUDA code via reference-guided lowering. Across diverse attention variants and GPU platforms, CuBridge consistently produces correct kernels and substantially outperforms general frameworks, compiler-based approaches, and prior LLM-based methods.

Investigating Cross-Modal Skill Injection: Scenarios, Methods, and Hyperparameters

Zhiyu Xu Peking University, Lean Wang DeepSeek and Peking University, Yuanxin Liu Peking University, Lei Li, Hao Zhou Tencent, Fandong Meng WeChat AI, Tencent Inc., Jie Zhou, Xu Sun Peking University

Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated remarkable proficiency in general multi-modal understanding; yet they struggle to efficiently acquire continually evolving domain-specific skills. Conventional approaches to enhancing VLM capabilities, such as Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), require extensive dataset curation and substantial computational resources. Model merging has emerged as an efficient alternative that enables the transfer of domain-specific expertise from Large Language Models (LLMs) to VLMs without incurring additional training data requirements or significant computational overhead. Unlike conventional merging of homogeneous LLMs, which mainly aggregates existing capabilities, cross-modal skill injection aims to induce emergent cross-modal capabilities by integrating a domain-expert LLM into a VLM. However, existing research lacks a systematic analysis of the applicability and methodology of cross-modal skill injection. In this study, we investigate cross-modal skill injection across three main aspects: scenarios, methods, and hyperparameters. For scenarios, we find that cross-modal skill injection generally performs well in instruction-following and cross-lingual settings, yet struggles with mathematical reasoning. For methods, we find that classic approaches such as TA and DARE consistently achieve superior performance over alternative merging methods. We also provide a systematic and quantitative analysis of the hyperparameter tuning that these classic methods critically depend on.

Think Natively: Unlocking Multilingual Reasoning with Consistency-Enhanced Reinforcement Learning

Xue Zhang Beijing Jiaotong University, Yunlong Liang, Fandong Meng WeChat AI, Tencent Inc., Songming Zhang, Kaiyu Huang Beijing Jiaotong University, Yufeng Chen, Xu Jinan Beijing Jiaotong University, Jie Zhou

Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have achieved remarkable performance on complex reasoning tasks by adopting the “think-then-answer” paradigm, which enhances both accuracy and interpretability. However, current LRMs exhibit two critical limitations when processing non-English languages: (1) They often struggle to maintain input-output language consistency; (2) They generally perform poorly with wrong reasoning paths and lower answer accuracy compared to English. These limitations significantly compromise the interpretability of reasoning processes and degrade the user experience for non-English speakers, hindering the global deployment of LRMs. To address these limitations, we propose M-Thinker, which is trained by the GRPO algorithm that involves a Language Consistency (LC) reward and a novel Cross-lingual Thinking Alignment (CTA) reward. Specifically, the LC reward defines a strict constraint on the language consistency between the input, thought, and answer. Besides, the CTA reward compares the model’s non-English reasoning paths with its English reasoning path to transfer its own reasoning capability from English to non-English languages. Through an iterative RL procedure, our M-Thinker-1.5B/4B/7B models not only achieve nearly 100% language consistency and superior performance on two multilingual benchmarks (MMATH and PolyMath), but also exhibit excellent generalization on out-of-domain languages.

TamEdit: Trajectory-Aware Meta-Learning for Specificity-Preserving Continual Knowledge Editing

Shiqiang Tian, Cheng Ding, Qin Chen East China Normal University, Jie Zhou, Liang He East China Normal University

Knowledge editing is a promising method for updating Large Language Models efficiently. However, previous studies often suffer from poor specificity in continual editing, as they typically focus on single edits or preventing knowledge forgetting. To address this, we propose TamEdit, a trajectory-aware meta-learning method that preserves specificity for continual knowledge editing. TamEdit unifies three levels: Inner Optimization performs multi-step fast fine-tuning on the single edit; Trajectory-based Editing unifies continual edits with a growing memory; and Outer Optimization leverages meta-learning to distill cross-task strategies for preserving specificity. By capturing the relationships between different single edits within the trajectory, our method learns how to effectively avoid specificity drift. Experiments across multiple LLMs show TamEdit significantly outperforms baselines in continual editing, improving specificity by 14.81% with fast speed (requiring only 8.84% of the time cost of most baselines), while preserving general capabilities.

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over long documents typically involves splitting the text into smaller chunks, which serve as the basic units for retrieval. However, due to dependencies across the original document, contextual information is often essential for accurately interpreting each chunk. To address this, prior work has explored encoding longer context windows to produce embeddings for longer chunks, yet their gains in retrieval and downstream tasks remain limited. This is because (1) longer chunks strain the capacity of embedding models due to the increased amount of information they must encode, and (2) many real-world applications still require returning localized evidence due to constraints on model or human bandwidth. To this end, we propose an alternative approach to this challenge by representing short chunks in a way that is conditioned on a broader context window to enhance retrieval performance – i.e., situating a chunk’s meaning within its context. We further show that existing embedding models are not well-equipped to encode such situated context effectively, and thus introduce a new training paradigm and develop the first situated embedding model. To evaluate our method, we curate a book-plot retrieval dataset specifically designed to assess situated retrieval capabilities. On this benchmark, our 1B-parameter model substantially outperforms state-of-the-art embedding models, including several with up to 7B parameters.

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.

AI 速览:提出涵盖数据构建、模型训练与评估的通用工具使用框架ToolLLM,通过自动构建ToolBench数据集并微调LLaMA得到ToolLLaMA,以提升开源模型的API调用能力。

Despite the advancements of open-source large language models (LLMs), e.g., LLaMA, they remain significantly limited in tool-use capabilities, i.e., using external tools (APIs) to fulfill human instructions. The reason is that current instruction tuning largely focuses on basic language tasks but ignores the tool-use domain. This is in contrast to the excellent tool-use capabilities of state-of-the-art (SOTA) closed-source LLMs, e.g., ChatGPT. To bridge this gap, we introduce ToolLLM, a general tool-use framework encompassing data construction, model training, and evaluation. We first present ToolBench, an instruction-tuning dataset for tool use, which is constructed automatically using ChatGPT. Specifically, the construction can be divided into three stages: (i) API collection: we collect 16,464 real-world RESTful APIs spanning 49 categories from RapidAPI Hub; (ii) instruction generation: we prompt ChatGPT to generate diverse instructions involving these APIs, covering both single-tool and multi-tool scenarios; (iii) solution path annotation: we use ChatGPT to search for a valid solution path (chain of API calls) for each instruction. To enhance the reasoning capabilities of LLMs, we develop a novel depth-first search-based decision tree algorithm. It enables LLMs to evaluate multiple reasoning traces and expand the search space. Moreover, to evaluate the tool-use capabilities of LLMs, we develop an automatic evaluator: ToolEval. Based on ToolBench, we fine-tune LLaMA to obtain an LLM ToolLLaMA, and equip it with a neural API retriever to recommend appropriate APIs for each instruction. Experiments show that ToolLLaMA demonstrates a remarkable ability to execute complex instructions and generalize to unseen APIs, and exhibits comparable performance to ChatGPT. Our ToolLLaMA also demonstrates strong zero-shot generalization ability in an out-of-distribution tool-use dataset: APIBench.
