Spatiotemporal Dynamics-Aware Industrial Anomaly Detection and Reasoning

S-Wei Chen, Siangyu Yang, Yi-Chen Jan, Chun-Yi Lee, Shao-Yuan Lo

原文摘要

Industrial Anomaly Detection (IAD) is a long-established problem that aims to detect defects in industrial products during manufacturing for quality control. Most existing studies focus on static visual patterns as the basis for detection. However, in real manufacturing environments, many anomalies are dynamics-based, such as irregular movements that cannot be perceived from static cues alone. We observe that even recent Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM)-based approaches fall short in identifying such dynamic anomalies due to limited temporal modeling capability. To address this, we introduce MUSTARD: MUltimodal SpatioTemporal Anomaly Reasoning and Detection, a framework that equips MLLMs with fine-grained spatiotemporal dynamics awareness for detecting and reasoning about dynamics-based defects. MUSTARD introduces optical-flow-guided keyframe selection and augmented modalities to capture critical motion irregularities through local motion patterns and global dynamic evolution. Its normal pattern-based reasoning pipeline requires only a few normal reference samples as the detection basis, avoiding any model updates. This enables efficient adaptation across various products and provides high decision interpretability. MUSTARD is the first MLLM-based framework for dynamics-based IAD. Experiments demonstrate its superior performance in detecting spatiotemporal anomalies and providing plausible explanations. The code will be made publicly available.

Differencing the Diffusion Trajectory toward Uncertain Components for Time Series Forecasting

Chen Su, Yuanhe Tian, Yan Song

原文摘要

Diffusion models have become a widely used framework for probabilistic time series forecasting, modeling the distribution of future values given an observed history. In time series forecasting, however, the future continues the observed history, creating an asymmetry the standard diffusion process leaves unaddressed, with slowly-varying content largely determined by the observed continuity while higher-frequency dynamics carry most of the residual uncertainty. Existing diffusion-based forecasters decouple this asymmetry through an external rule before generation, leaving the corruption trajectory blind to which parts of the target the history can already anchor. We propose DiffDiff, a diffusion framework that embeds this predictability asymmetry into the diffusion trajectory itself, so that a single end-to-end diffusion process becomes aware of which parts of the target the history can already anchor. DiffDiff makes the forward operator step-dependent so that the noisy intermediate state progressively shifts from the target itself toward its second-order differenced structure, while a conditioning pathway supplies the denoiser with both value-domain and differential history information balanced by a stage-adaptive gate at each diffusion step. The terminal distribution approaches a standard Gaussian, preserving compatibility with existing samplers. On seven benchmarks across four prediction horizons, DiffDiff outperforms six diffusion baselines, while our analyses show that its trajectory reallocates modeling effort according to history predictability and improves distributional fidelity.

Optimal Competitive Ratios for Chasing Convex Functions with Quadratic Growth

Linzhe He, Sifan Yang, Wei Jiang, Lijun Zhang

原文摘要

Chasing convex function has attracted much attention in recent years, which can be formulated as a game between a learner and an adversary. In each round, the adversary reveals a convex function, and the learner selects a decision and incurs a hitting cost and a movement cost for changing its decision. The performance of the learner is measured by the \emph{competitive ratio}, which compares its cumulative cost with that of an optimal offline decision sequence. For Euclidean movement, existing upper and lower bounds for $κ$-well-conditioned functions exhibit a polynomial gap. For squared Euclidean movement, dimension-free competitive guarantees have been established under quadratic growth, but the optimal competitive ratio remains unclear. In this paper, we establish optimal dimension-free competitive ratios for convex function chasing under two types of movement costs. For Euclidean movement, we propose Clipped Proximal Descent (CPD), which combines a balanced proximal step with a clipped correction toward the current minimizer. CPD achieves an $O(κ^{1/3})$ competitive ratio for smooth convex functions satisfying quadratic growth, improving the previous $O(\sqrtκ)$ upper bound and matching the existing $Ω(κ^{1/3})$ lower bound. For squared Euclidean movement, we establish the exact optimal dimension-free competitive ratio for convex functions satisfying quadratic growth. Our result is based on a new tight competitive analysis of Regularized Online Balanced Descent (R-OBD) and a matching lower bound against randomized algorithms.

Leave It Better Than Found: Value-Guided Cooperation in Sequential Tasks

Mario Gomez Andreu, Michael Amir, Antonio Marino, Tianxu An, Marco Hutter, Amanda Prorok

原文摘要

We consider the problem of sequential task continuation, where one robot acts in a workspace that has been affected by a previous robot. Current approaches in multi-robot cooperation rely heavily on co-training or co-optimization, assumingthat the robots have access to collective interaction data during the policy training or planning process. However, as increasingly varied robotic embodiments and policies are deployed and operate in the same real-world environment, learning policies for cooperation becomes infeasible due to the combinatorial explosion of possible robot combinations that need to be accounted for. To address this challenge, this paper considers the problem of ad hoc sequential cooperation between robots that have never before operated together in a shared environment. We demonstrate that robots can explicitly communicate their environmental preferences through sharing their value functions, enabling coordination without the need for prior joint training. To ground this exchange and prevent overconfidence in out-of-distribution states, we further introduce a k-nearest neighbors (KNN)- based uncertainty filter. Our method yields an increase of up to 48.5 pp compared with naive or even selfish agents, in task success rates across simulated and real-world experiments, demonstrating that value function transmission between agents is useful not merely as an internal learning tool, but as an effective basis for ad hoc coordination. One Method Does Not Fit All: A Large-Scale Benchmark of Imputation Methods for Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Data

Yuichiro Iwashita, Ahtisham Fazeel Abbasi, Koichi Kise, Andreas Dengel, Muhammad Nabeel Asim

原文摘要

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enables gene expression profiling at cellular resolution but is inherently affected by sparsity caused by dropout events, where expressed genes are recorded as zeros due to technical limitations. These dropout events distort gene expression distributions and compromise downstream analyses. To address this challenge, numerous traditional and deep learning (DL)-based imputation methods have been developed to detect dropout events and impute their true expression values. However, evaluations of these methods have largely been restricted to specific downstream tasks and limited datasets, and large-scale systematic comparisons under standardized benchmarking conditions are lacking. To fill this gap, we present a comprehensive framework that evaluates 16 imputation methods across 10 experimental protocols, 6 downstream tasks, and 30 benchmark datasets. Through extensive experimentation, we systematically investigate the strengths, limitations, and task-specific performance of these methods under consistent evaluation settings. Our results show that traditional methods perform relatively better across a wide range of downstream tasks, whereas DL-based methods are more variable. In addition, strong performance in numerical gene expression recovery does not necessarily translate into improved biological interpretability in downstream analyses, including cell clustering, differential expression analysis, marker gene analysis, trajectory analysis, and cell type annotation. Furthermore, performance varies substantially across datasets, protocols, and downstream analyses, with no single method consistently outperforming the others. Our findings provide practical guidance for selecting imputation methods tailored to specific analytical objectives and underscore the importance of task-specific evaluation in scRNA-seq data analysis.

Can an LLM Actually Reason and Program about Neural Network's Weights or is it just memorization on steroids? Exploring "Weight-Space Programming"

Nazmus Sakib Ahmed

原文摘要

Large language models (LLMs) have recently been reported to read and write the raw weights of neural networks directly, a capability termed weight-space programming. We ask whether the reading side of this capability reflects reasoning about weight flows or a combination of local arithmetic at the network's edges and memorized priors over public datasets. We test Claude Opus 5.5 on small convolutional networks of about 125,000 parameters trained on five image datasets, providing every weight as plain text with no tools, no forward passes, and no dataset or class names. The model performs accurate local calculations: batch-normalization statistics lead it to infer about three optimizer steps on networks stopped after three updates, and output-layer sign patterns recover the vehicle/animal split of CIFAR-10. The sessions report reading the first and last layers closely and sampling the middle, and several claims built on partial tracing fail verification, although we did not run a direct forward-pass test. Semantic judgments lean on familiar datasets: the model names CIFAR-10 for CIFAR-10 networks but also for all three fast-food networks, relabels KMNIST as MNIST, reads a 99.57%-accurate SAT-6 network as CIFAR-10 animal photos, and calls "frog" the output favored by a feature that fires most on trees. Permuting CIFAR-10's labels preserves the output split at the new indices, but every class pair the model interprets is then wrong, indicating reliance on remembered label order. These are exploratory results from mostly single runs. We conclude that zero-shot weight reading by this model is better described as local arithmetic plus dataset priors than as weight-flow tracing, and we provide a protocol for auditing future weight-space claims.

Reward Engine: Reward-Centric Self-Evolution for Open-Ended Tool Agents

Litong Feng, Ji Qi, Yiran Cheng, Shaowu Pan, Xinyu Zhang, Qijun Li

原文摘要

Open-ended tool agents can complete the same objective through different tool paths, and their quality depends jointly on the interaction trace, environment state, and final artifacts, so such tasks rarely admit an executable ground-truth reward. The central challenge is therefore to construct a reward from existing experience that exposes the current policy's failures while remaining stationary during optimization. We introduce Reward Engine, which, like a self-motivated student, first works out what success requires and then optimizes toward it. From the task and initial trajectories, it builds a RewardPack of testcases for required correctness and rubrics for graded quality, each executed as a check that returns a judgment with evidence. The frozen RewardPack then guides the agent to revise and select its outputs, and can also serve as a reward for reinforcement learning. On WorkBuddy Bench Office and Claw-Eval, the constructed reward largely agrees with the benchmark graders, not reversing their ordering on 82.3\% and 80.5\% of candidate pairs. Used to revise executions, it raises three-run consistency ($\mathrm{Pass}^{3}$) over Baseline from 45.0\% to 54.0\% and from 78.4\% to 83.7\%.

PickMoment: Continuous-Time Single-Image-to-Video via Learning Deblurring and Blur-to-Video

Junseong Shin, Hyeonsu Jo, Daehyun Kim, Tae Hyun Kim

原文摘要

Motion blur arises from the temporal integration of a continuous sharp signal over a finite exposure window, yet existing learning-based methods sidestep this physical model and predict only the sharp signal itself: most single-image deblurring methods recover a single frame at the exposure center, while blur-to-video methods predict a fixed set of frames. We introduce PickMoment, a continuous-time reformulation that directly learns the interval-mean blur over arbitrary sub-intervals of the exposure with a single deterministic model. Drawing an analogy to MeanFlow's average-velocity formulation, we train the model with three supervisions derived from the blur integral: an empirical reconstruction loss from available subframes, an additivity loss that enforces self-consistency across overlapping sub-intervals, and a sharp-frame loss anchored at the zero-interval limit. A single trained model unifies single-image deblurring, blur-to-video generation, and continuous-time pick-a-moment recovery as different queries to the same network, with no separate training for each task. Our PickMoment achieves state-of-the-art performance among generative-based deblurring methods on GoPro and HIDE while competitive against restoration-based methods on RealBlur, and the highest per-frame fidelity on GoPro-7 blur-to-video, all in a single forward pass without iterative sampling.

Terrain-Indexed Motion Priors and Geometric Support for Extreme Humanoid Parkour

Chenghao Sun, Youhao Lyu, Zizheng Li, Shuting Zhang, Ziyang Dong, Wenhao Cui

原文摘要

We present a progressive imitation framework that learns terrain-appropriate humanoid parkour skills and subsequently adapts their hand--knee support. Human demonstrations provide traversal behaviors, but their contact patterns need not suit a robot's proportions or the available support surfaces. Our framework changes the role of demonstrations across three stages: privileged imitation produces physically executable robot references; terrain-indexed adversarial motion priors guide skill acquisition; and geometric support guidance with a reduced motion-prior weight enables contact adaptation. Candidate-based precontact attraction and actual-contact evaluation guide support without prescribing a contact sequence. The deployed policy selects behaviors from onboard depth, proprioception, and velocity commands without an external skill label. On the Noetix E1, the policy achieves 96.34\% hybrid success in simulation and transfers without real-world policy fine-tuning, completing 29 of 30 individual obstacle trials and four of five hybrid courses. Support-adaptation ablations show higher traversal success for the complete adaptation stage on the tested terrains, while qualitative observations show changes in contact placement. These results support acquiring skills from demonstrations before relaxing their influence to accommodate robot-specific support configurations.

原文摘要

Diet is a major determinant of health, yet accurate dietary assessment from free-living meal images remains challenging. Existing retrieval-based Vision-Language Model (VLM) approaches to nutrient estimation typically rely on textual food representations, while, to our knowledge, direct grounding on visually similar annotated meals has not been investigated. We present NutriVisRAG, a retrieval-augmented generation framework that uses a vision encoder to retrieve similar meals with known nutritional annotations and provide them as multimodal in-context exemplars for VLM nutrient estimation at inference time, without task-specific fine-tuning. We evaluate NutriVisRAG across four datasets, four VLMs, three retrieval encoders, and two prompting strategies, including free-living meals from adults with insulin-treated diabetes, where carbohydrate estimates are compared against two dietitians' annotations. Across all 96 configurations (4 datasets x 4 VLMs x 3 retrieval encoders x 2 prompting strategies), NutriVisRAG reduced the primary estimation error in 56, with improvements more frequent under whole-meal (35/48) than per-item prompting (21/48). Across the evaluated configurations, the lowest NutriVisRAG error was below the best Vanilla error in 13 of 16 VLM--dataset pairs. For GPT-5.4-mini, under whole-meal prompting, the best-performing retrieval encoder for each dataset reduced the primary error on all four datasets relative to Vanilla, with reductions of 1.7--35.7%. Overall, our results show that grounding in multimodal exemplars comprising images and respective annotations can improve nutrient estimation at inference time without task-specific fine-tuning, although the benefits remain configuration-dependent.

When Imperfect Automated Fact-Checking Backfires: Social Learning in the Presence of Misinformation

Zixuan Liu, Ming Cao

原文摘要

Automated fact-checking tools, cheap and fast but imperfect, are increasingly available on social platforms. We study when such tools can backfire in a sequential social learning model of misinformation. Agents observe an article's reliability and their predecessors' actions, which indicate whether they liked or disliked the article. They may also pay to fact-check it. We examine how welfare, defined as the probability of a correct cascade, changes when a free, error-prone automated tool supplements costly but perfectly accurate manual fact-checking. Two opposing effects arise. Broader use of fact-checking helps agents escape wrong cascades. At the same time, errors from the automated tool can mislead agents who would otherwise have verified the article perfectly, reducing the likelihood of correct cascades. We prove that adding the tool strictly lowers welfare for articles of intermediate reliability when truthful articles are not too informative and manual checking is sufficiently costly. Simulations show that the tool can help on either side of the intermediate range, and that it improves on manual-only checking on average only above a threshold accuracy.

Zero-Shot Quantization via Weight-Space Arithmetic

Daniele Solombrino, Antonio Andrea Gargiulo, Alessandro Zirilli, Luca Zhou, Adrian Robert Minut, Emanuele Rodolà

原文摘要

We show that robustness to post-training quantization (PTQ) is a transferable direction in weight space. We call this direction the quantization vector: extracted from a donor task by simple weight-space arithmetic, it can be used to patch a receiver model and improve PTQ Top-1 accuracy by up to 60% in a 3-bit setting, without receiver-side quantization-aware training (QAT). When using no receiver validation data, the method provides a zero-shot, low-cost alternative to QAT for extremely low-bit deployment. Across multiple vision and language models and more than 30 tasks, donor quantization vectors often yield substantial gains even when donor and receiver tasks differ markedly. We further prove rigorously that quantization vectors are well-defined and do not suffer from reparameterization symmetries, and provide a local geometric account of their effect. Together, these results suggest that quantization robustness can be partially isolated, reused, and transferred through simple weight-space algebra.

Gaussian Light Field Splatting: A Physical Prior-Driven Vision Transformer for Low-Light Image Enhancement

Yuhan Chen, Wenxuan Yu, Guofa Li, Fuchen Li, Kunyang Huang, Yicui Shi, Ying Fang, Wenbo Chu 等 9 位作者

原文摘要

Existing low-light image enhancement methods often suffer from local exposure imbalance and color distortion under complex, non-uniform illumination, while mainstream Vision Transformers lack explicit modeling of physics-based priors for illumination degradation. To address these limitations, we propose GLFS, a Gaussian Light Field Splatting-based Vision Transformer that incorporates continuous light-field priors from 2D Gaussian Splatting (2DGS) as an explicit physical bias into the Transformer self-attention mechanism to guide spatial gain estimation under complex non-uniform illumination. Specifically, GLFS represents scene illumination as a superposition of anisotropic Gaussian basis functions and introduces a physics-informed bias into the self-attention mechanism to adaptively infer a spatial gain field, enabling accurate and spatially uniform restoration under complex illumination conditions. To mitigate color shifts and structural degradation during enhancement, we further introduce a color vector angular loss and a luminance edge loss, with the former enforcing hue consistency and the latter improving the structural fidelity of local details. Extensive ablation studies and quantitative evaluations demonstrate that GLFS achieves competitive overall performance in illumination correction, structure preservation, and perceptual quality, validating the effectiveness of the continuous Gaussian light field prior for low-light image enhancement.

ODDR: One-Step Deshadow Diffusion via Reward Guidance

Junseong Shin, Kijun Kim, Minseong Kim, Dongjin Kim, Tae Hyun Kim

原文摘要

Recent advances in deep learning for shadow removal have significantly enhanced image quality and realism. However, most approaches rely on real-world paired datasets, which are costly to collect and often limited in scene diversity, leading to limited generalization. To address these limitations, we propose One-step Deshadow Diffusion via Reward guidance (ODDR), a new framework that achieves efficient and high-fidelity shadow removal without relying on real-world paired supervision. Our method begins with One-step Deshadow Diffusion (ODD), a baseline model trained on synthetic shadow data for efficient one-step shadow-free reconstruction. We further adapt ODD into ODDR using ShadowReward. In contrast to traditional, annotation-heavy approaches, ShadowReward is the first reward model for shadow removal trained entirely without human annotation. It learns to mimic human perceptual judgments by ranking synthetically generated images with controlled degradations, such as texture distortion and boundary artifacts. This reward-guided fine-tuning enables ODDR to close the synthetic-to-real domain gap. Extensive experiments show that ODD achieves strong performance without relying on real-world paired supervision, and ODDR further improves the results, narrowing the gap to fully supervised methods trained on real-world paired data while maintaining higher computational efficiency as a single-step model.

FacEDiT: Talking Head Video Editing via Facial Motion Infilling

Kim Sung-Bin, Joohyun Chang, David Harwath, Tae-Hyun Oh

原文摘要

Editing a local segment of a talking head video without reshooting the scene remains challenging and underexplored. Local edits, such as insertion, deletion, or substitution, require synthesizing a replacement segment while leaving the rest of the video unchanged. This involves variable-duration local rewriting while preserving identity, unedited regions, and boundary continuity, which standard speech-driven generation and lip synchronization methods do not directly address. Moreover, direct supervision is impractical, as it would require paired videos of the same person and scene that differ only in a local spoken segment. We instead formulate talking head video editing as facial motion infilling, a self-supervised pretext task that recovers masked facial motion from speech and surrounding motion context using ordinary video--speech pairs. Our key insight is that local video editing can be simulated during training by masking a motion span and reconstructing it from speech and visible motion context. Building on this formulation, we introduce FacEDiT, a mask-controlled talking head model with a local temporal attention bias and temporal smoothness regularization to improve lip--speech alignment and transition continuity. We also introduce FacEDiTBench, the first benchmark for talking head video editing, covering diverse edit types and lengths with dedicated evaluation metrics. Extensive experiments show that FacEDiT produces accurate, speech-aligned edits with strong identity preservation and seamless boundary transitions. Beyond editing, the same facial motion infilling model extends to portrait animation and lip synchronization by simply changing the mask pattern, establishing FacEDiT as a unified framework for talking head video editing and generation.

Performance metrics in machine learning: a scenario-based guide from the confusion matrix to calibration, regression and uncertainty

Mehmet Baygin, Sengul Dogan, Turker Tuncer

原文摘要

Performance metrics can yield different conclusions from the same predictions. This methodological tutorial explains the effects of class prevalence, decision thresholds, aggregation rules and software conventions through controlled scenarios. Twenty-two confusion-matrix metrics are organized in a prevalence-coded map. Fifteen scenarios cover binary and multi-class classification, score discrimination, probability calibration, regression, uncertainty and consistency checks. Inputs are fixed in released files, and one factor is varied in each scenario. All 205 verification checks passed; 202 were independent and 3 were internal. An always-negative rule achieved an accuracy of 0.990 at a prevalence of 0.010, with balanced accuracy of 0.500. At fixed sensitivity and specificity, precision fell from 0.889 to 0.008 as prevalence fell from 0.5 to 0.001. Three probability variants shared a ROC-AUC of 0.825 but had calibration slopes of 2.08, 1.04 and 0.52. With 10 participants, participant-majority accuracy of 0.700 had a 95% interval of 0.348-0.933. Fold-averaged scores were falsely flagged as inconsistent under an inappropriate pooled-test-set model. A goal-based metric table and a reporting checklist are provided. The scenarios illustrate mechanisms and do not estimate their frequency in published studies. A literature audit and a real-data demonstration are specified as future protocols and were not executed.

VIGOR: Zero-Shot Visual Generalization via Latent-Space Consistency in Model-Based Reinforcement Learning

Mingyu Park, Samyeul Noh, Hyun Myung, Donghwan Lee

原文摘要

Model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL) achieves strong sample efficiency by planning in learned latent dynamics but degrades substantially under unseen visual distractions such as background, lighting, or camera changes. Unlike model-free RL, where encoder perturbations affect only single-step predictions, MBRL suffers from a two-level vulnerability: distractions push encoder outputs out of distribution, and these errors compound through recursive latent rollouts. We propose visual generalization via latent-space consistency in model-based RL (VIGOR), which enables zero-shot generalization to unseen distractions while retaining its backbone's sample efficiency. VIGOR comprises three interdependent components: (i) asymmetric weak-to-strong augmentation, which pairs weak-only and weak-to-strong latent views within a batch; (ii) dynamics-level consistency, which enforces augmentation-invariant transition predictions via direct latent regression; and (iii) encoder-level stabilization, which prevents encoder drift under the cross-augmentation supervision of (ii). On the DeepMind Control Suite (DMC) and Robosuite, VIGOR instantiated on TD-MPC2 outperforms state-of-the-art model-free and model-based baselines in zero-shot generalization, surpassing the second-best baseline by 3.4% on DMC and 43.6% on Robosuite, with sample efficiency comparable to its backbone and fewer environment interactions than the other baselines. Ablations show that VIGOR is augmentation-agnostic: augmentations from distinct perturbation families preserve strong generalization, confirming that latent-space consistency, not the augmentation choice, drives robustness. A second instantiation on DreamerV3, a structurally distinct recurrent state-space model, also improves zero-shot generalization on both benchmarks, indicating backbone-agnostic benefits. KeHoSu: Keyed Homoglyph Substitution for Authenticated Text Provenance over Copy-Paste Channels

Andrei Alexandru Drăghici, Sediola Ruko, Briland Hitaj, Dorjan Hitaj

原文摘要

Nowadays, large language models produce text at scale, and much of it is redistributed across platforms. A moderator who finds a suspicious comment, post or article may want to know which platform generated it and for which account. In this paper we study attribution over the channel through which such text actually travels, copy-paste, which discards document metadata but keeps Unicode code points. We present KeHoSu, which turns the confusable characters of homoglyph attacks into a keyed attribution channel: the variant chosen for each carrier letter encodes one bit of an identifier made of a platform field, a user field and a truncated authentication tag. Moreover, given that reshared text is often quoted in fragments, and the placement therefore keeps no positional state, we show that KeHoSu is invariant to sentence reordering up to a constant boundary layer and depends on a partial quotation only through the retained length. We characterize the code-point channel by its capacity, removability and detectability, and provide an achievable region that relates the three. We evaluate KeHoSu over a wide range of use cases and show that the mark survived copy-paste across 18 common platforms, attributing the majority of all excerpts to the correct account at 178 letters (about two sentences) on LLM-generated stories and 167 letters (about one sentence) on standard English prose.

Instruction-Tuning Large Language Models with Medical Classification Data Improves ICD Coding of German Tumor Diagnoses

原文摘要

Accurate coding of tumor diagnoses with ICD-10-GM and ICD-O-3 is essential for structured cancer documentation in Germany. Smaller open-weight LLMs are appealing for privacy-preserving automation but often struggle with coding accuracy in German-language contexts. This study investigates whether instruction-based fine-tuning on public datasets improves the coding accuracy of open-weight LLMs for German tumor diagnosis texts. The evaluation uses coded diagnoses from the local tumor documentation system as test data. In a systematic data quality assessment, the upper limit for ICD-10 coding performance was estimated at 60-79% for exact and 81-94% for partial (three-character codes only) derivation. As training data, over 500,000 question-answer pairs were created based on the ICD-10-GM, ICD-O-3, and OPS catalogues. Eight open-weight models from the Qwen, Llama, and Mistral families (7-70 B parameters) were fine-tuned. ICD-10-GM accuracy rose from 1.4-24% to 41-58%, and partial accuracy from 31-74% to 73-83%. The accuracy of ICD-O-3 topography coding also improved but started and remained considerably lower with an exact accuracy of 22-40% and a partial accuracy of 56-67% after fine-tuning. Malformed code outputs dropped to 0% for all models. Tumor-diagnosis recognition reached 99%. Accuracy correlated positively with model size, but gaps between small and large models narrowed after fine-tuning. The reasoning mode in Qwen3 generally yielded a lower performance than fine-tuning and was over 100 times slower. Our findings highlight the potential of leveraging public catalogues to build instruction datasets that improve LLMs in medical documentation tasks. The complete training dataset and the best-performing checkpoints of the fine-tuned models are available from https://huggingface.co/datasets/stefan-m-lenz/ICDOPS-QA-2024.

Secure Formal Raising: Protecting the Development of AI through Executable Properties

Rolf Drechsler, Christina Plump

原文摘要

Model raising revisits Turing's developmental view of machine intelligence. Formal Raising (FR) has recently been proposed to complement this view with explicit behavioral properties. This paper extends that proposal to the security of the raising environment. Secure Formal Raising (SFR) models policy integrity, authorization, and confidential data flow using four-valued evidence that preserves unknown and inconsistent assessments. We prove six security invariants and show that they force admission to accept only confirmed evidence. A plain-C reference implementation satisfies the invariants in a bounded exhaustive exploration, which also exposes a confused-deputy gap for tool calls that a provenance requirement closes.

Kineo: Calibration-Free Metric Motion Capture From Sparse RGB Cameras

Charles Javerliat, Pierre Raimbaud, Guillaume Lavoué

原文摘要

Markerless multi-view motion capture is often constrained by the need for precise camera calibration, limiting accessibility for non-experts and in-the-wild captures. Existing calibration-free approaches mitigate this requirement but suffer from high computational cost and reduced reconstruction accuracy. We present Kineo, a fully automatic, calibration-free pipeline for markerless motion capture from videos captured by unsynchronized, uncalibrated, consumer-grade RGB cameras. Kineo leverages 2D keypoints from off-the-shelf detectors to simultaneously calibrate cameras, including Brown-Conrady distortion coefficients, and reconstruct 3D keypoints and dense scene pointmaps at metric scale. A confidence-aware spatio-temporal keypoint subsampling strategy, combined with graph-based global optimization, enables robust calibration at a fixed computational cost independent of sequence length. We further introduce a pairwise reprojection consistency score, a heuristic measure of the agreement between views, which we use to weight bone lengths in metric scale recovery. Evaluations on EgoHumans and Human3.6M demonstrate substantial improvements over prior calibration-free methods. Compared to previous state-of-the-art approaches, Kineo reduces camera translation error by approximately 83-85%, camera angular error by 86-92%, and world mean-per-joint position error (W-MPJPE) by 83-91%. Kineo is also efficient in real-world scenarios, processing multi-view sequences faster than their duration in a specific configuration (e.g., 36 min to process 1 h 23 min of footage). AnyDexRT: Calibration-Efficient Dexterous Hand Retargeting with Few-Shot Human Guidance

Chenxi Wang, Ying Feng, Hongjie Fang, Shangning Xia, Lixin Yang, Chuan Wen, Cewu Lu

原文摘要

Teleoperation is a key interface for controlling dexterous robotic hands and collecting demonstrations for imitation learning. Its effectiveness largely depends on kinematic retargeting, which maps operator hand motions to feasible and intuitive robot hand motions. Existing methods often require hand-crafted objectives, precise calibration, or global shape matching between human and robot hand spaces, making them sensitive to hand-specific tuning and less reliable across different dexterous hands. We propose AnyDexRT, a calibration-efficient retargeting method for intuitive dexterous teleoperation across human-like dexterous hands. AnyDexRT combines self-supervised fingertip correspondence learning with few-shot human guidance to anchor the mapping in task-relevant regions, and further refines pinch-related poses using a contact classifier. Experiments on diverse dexterous hands and real-world teleoperation tasks show that AnyDexRT improves retargeting quality, reduces manual tuning, and provides more intuitive and efficient control than prior retargeting methods. HITCH: Teaching a Vision-Language Model to Operate a Humanoid through a Whole-Body Harness

Qingzhou Lu, Chenxin Liu, Xinming Wang, Liu Cao, Yanjiang Guo, Mengdi Xu, Jianyu Chen

原文摘要

Enabling vision-language models (VLMs) to control humanoid robots requires both reliable whole-body interfaces and knowledge of how to use the body that carries over across tasks. We present HITCH (Harness Interfaces To Command Humanoids), a harness in which perception returns the 3D position of any point the VLM selects in its image, and execution turns commands for the pelvis, torso, hands, walking, and gaze into whole-body motion with a learned tracker. We find that both measuring the scene and executing commands accurately raise task success. We then fine-tune a VLM on trajectories in which teacher policies solve five base tasks through HITCH, so that it learns how to operate the humanoid. Without task-specific trajectories, the fine-tuned model completes 51% of SIMPLE episodes and 42.5% of HumanoidArena episodes, and adding five trajectories per SIMPLE task raises its SIMPLE success to 95%. On a real G1, it carries a box and walks to a goal without real training data.

Should We Pay This Much for Robustness? Efficient Proxy Certificates with Marginal Guarantees

Soroush H. Zargarbashi, Mohammad Sadegh Akhondzadeh, Aleksandar Bojchevski

原文摘要

Modern classifiers remain sensitive to small input perturbations, while strong model-agnostic robustness certificates such as randomized smoothing are often too expensive for deployment, requiring an extensive number (e.g. 2000) of model forward passes per input. We propose a framework that delegates certification to a cheap proxy function while statistically controlling its deviation from the original sound certificate. Given an exchangeable unlabeled calibration set, we tune the proxy via robust conformal risk control to guarantee a bounded marginal (rather than pointwise) false-approval rate: the probability, over future inputs, that the proxy accepts an input whose prediction is flipped due to perturbation. The resulting proxy certificate can be used either as a standalone marginal certificate or as a fallback mechanism that invokes the expensive certificate only when the proxy rejects. We provide both single-sample and sample-heavy calibration recipes. Empirically, as a standalone certificate our method reduces the test-time certification cost to a single model forward while retaining much of the certified performance of randomized smoothing at small radii, and as a fallback it recovers the certified ratio of randomized smoothing at a more modest speedup. This enables cheap yet effective robustness guarantees for larger architectures such as vision transformers and language models.

Reproducing Kernel (Quasi-)Banach Spaces with the $\ell^p$ Coefficient Norms

Tianfang Wang, Guohui Song, Haizhang Zhang

原文摘要

This paper advances the theory of reproducing kernel Banach spaces (RKBSs) by investigating the general $\ell^p$ regularization framework, with a particular focus on the non-convex regime $0<p<1$. While our preceding work established the foundation for RKBSs with the $\ell^1$ norm, the pursuit of stronger sparsity---closer to the $\ell^0$ pseudo-norm---naturally motivates this exploration into $\ell^p$ quasi-norms. For $0<p<1$, we construct reproducing kernel quasi-Banach spaces (RKQBSs) with $\ell^p$ quasi-norms and establish existence and sparsity results for interpolation and regularized learning under appropriate assumptions. We characterize the linear and relaxed representer theorems in terms of a generalized Lebesgue constant and derive bounds under kernel decay, sample spacing, and stability assumptions. For $p>1$, we construct RKBSs using a fixed countable dictionary, establish minimizer existence, and identify the optimal relaxed representer factor through an off-sample coefficient operator. These results reveal fundamental differences between the regimes $0<p<1$, $p=1$, and $p>1$. Numerical experiments compare the accuracy and sparsity of solutions for these three cases.

Integrating Background Knowledge for Scalable Causal Discovery

Mátyás Schubert, Theofanis Aslanidis, Tom Claassen, Sara Magliacane

原文摘要

Expert background knowledge is often available in practical applications of causal discovery. Such constraints on the true causal graph can help causal discovery in terms of identifiability of causal effects and accuracy of the learned structure, but also in reducing the space of candidate causal graphs. As causal discovery can become computationally expensive for large number of variables, it is crucial to utilize background knowledge effectively during the causal discovery process. However, most current methods only use background knowledge in a postprocessing step after causal discovery to refine the learned graph. In this work, we develop a framework for utilizing background knowledge during the causal discovery process, focusing especially on scalable causal discovery methods that recover only a subset of the whole graph. We implement our framework for multiple algorithms and empirically show that utilizing background knowledge can both reduce computational requirements and increase the quality of the learned structures.

ReFlowSET: Representation-Aligned Latent Flow Matching for SAR-to-EO Image Translation

Jeonghyeok Do, Seungchul Lee, Munchurl Kim

原文摘要

SAR-to-EO image translation aims to generate electro-optical (EO) imagery from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observations. Existing latent diffusion approaches typically inherit a predetermined autoencoder, although reconstruction fidelity can vary substantially across codecs and modalities. Because the latent codec affects the round-trip preservation of both SAR conditions and EO targets, codec selection constitutes a fundamental design choice; nevertheless, existing methods largely rely on codecs pretrained on natural images. To remedy this, we introduce ReFlowSET, a conditional latent flow-matching framework that selects its codec through a joint SAR--EO reconstruction audit. Rather than inheriting a heavyweight pretrained generator, ReFlowSET trains a substantially smaller conditional DiT from scratch in the selected latent space, using dual-stream SAR conditioning followed by joint feature refinement. To provide semantic guidance for this from-scratch training, intermediate noisy-EO features are aligned with clean target-EO representations extracted by a frozen vision foundation model. This alignment is used only during training and introduces no additional inference cost. Experiments on QXS-SAROPT and SAR2Opt demonstrate state-of-the-art performance across diverse perceptual fidelity and distributional metrics. Code and pretrained weights are publicly available at https://github.com/KAIST-VICLab/ReFlowSET.

GTAFL: Addressing Test-Agnostic Long-Tailed Federated Learning in Medical Image

Guangyu Chen, Jingyun Zeng, Hui Jiang

原文摘要

In healthcare, protecting patient privacy is crucial due to the sensitivity of medical data and its extensive accessibility. Federated Learning (FL) offers a decentralized and privacy-preserving training paradigm, making it an ideal solution for healthcare applications. A critical challenge in healthcare is that real-world medical data often exhibits long-tailed distributions in local and global views. Existing methods addressing long-tailed FL problem typically assume that the model will be evaluated on uniform test data distribution. However, practical test data in healthcare systems is often agnostic and unpredictable, leading to potential model failures in real-world scenarios. In this paper, we introduce a novel task termed Test-Agnostic Long-Tailed Federated Learning and propose GTAFL, a comprehensive framework to address this challenge. During the training stage, GTAFL employs adaptive re-sampling, expert classifier retraining, and self-supervised learning to correct biased classifiers and distorted feature spaces caused by long-tailed training distributions. During the inference stage, an ensemble mechanism combines retrained expert classifiers to handle test data with unknown distributions. Extensive experiments on CIFAR10 and two medical datasets manifest that our framework outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. The code is available at https://github.com/cgy-lavine/GTAFL

Online Budget Allocation with Censored Semi-Bandit Feedback

François Bachoc, Nicolò Cesa-Bianchi, Tommaso Cesari, Roberto Colomboni

原文摘要

We study a stochastic budget-allocation problem over $K$ tasks. At each round $t$, the learner chooses an allocation $X_t \in Δ_K$. Task $k$ succeeds with probability $F_k(X_{t,k})$, where $F_1,\dots,F_K$ are nondecreasing budget-to-success curves, and upon success yields a random reward with unknown mean $μ_k$. The learner observes which tasks succeed, and observes a task's reward only upon success (censored semi-bandit feedback). This model captures, for instance, splitting payments across crowdsourcing workers or distributing bids across simultaneous auctions, and subsumes stochastic multi-armed bandits and semi-bandits. We design an optimism-based algorithm that operates under censored semi-bandit feedback and assumes access to an exact maximization oracle. Our main result is an instance-dependent bound showing that in diminishing-returns regimes, the regret of this algorithm scales polylogarithmically with the horizon $T$ without any ad hoc tuning. For general nondecreasing curves, we prove that the same algorithm (with the same tuning) achieves a worst-case regret upper bound of $\tilde O(K\sqrt{T})$. Finally, we establish a matching worst-case regret lower bound of $Ω(K\sqrt{T})$ that holds even for full-feedback algorithms, highlighting the intrinsic hardness of our problem outside diminishing returns.

Learning Dynamics of On-Policy Distillation

Guan Zhe Hong, Sumeet Ramesh Motwani, Liang Chen, Yangchen Pan, Junchi Yu, Jialin Yu, Philip Torr, Yi Ren

原文摘要

On-policy distillation (OPD) is emerging as an important paradigm for language-model post-training, combining dense teacher supervision with training on student-generated trajectories. This creates a feedback loop where each update changes the student and thereby the training distribution that generates subsequent updates. Yet, how this feedback shapes learning and generalization remains poorly understood. We conduct a mechanistic analysis of OPD's learning dynamics, distinguishing the two feedback loop stages: conversion of the distillation signal into parameter updates, and broadcast through which these updates change predictions across prefixes and reshape the rollout distribution. This framework helps us understand both limited student responsiveness despite substantial teacher-student disagreement, and degeneration when updates that improve local teacher agreement also increase the probability of unsuccessful continuations, exposing the student to unreliable supervision in subsequent rollouts. Finally, we show that offline distillation can prepare a student for OPD without significantly improving immediate held-out accuracy. While OPD alone may degrade generation, it can yield substantial accuracy gains after sufficient offline preparation. Together, our results connect teacher supervision, student geometry, and the evolving rollout distribution in determining the learning dynamics of OPD and its effects on downstream performance.
